New Gelderland
New Gelderland was first discovered by a group of Dutch-speaking Endemian settlers led by Johan van Dercke in 1604; this group named their new discovery after their homeland of Gelderland. They established a colony near present-day Arrowhead Point. However, that colonial experiment proved short lived as a group of English-speaking settlers also fell in love with the area, and, due to their military superiority, pushed this first group out into other pastures. This group of colonists then moved on to found the city of New Amsterdam, which still exists today. Meanwhile, the English-speaking group expanded their hold over the country, establishing the cities of Nassau Bay (named after their King, of the Orange-Nassau dynasty), Arrowhead Point, and Queenstown. This group of colonists continued to expand into the interior of New Gelderland, eventually occupying around 50% of the modern-day New Gelderland, centering around the Talos River.

Around the late 1700s, another group of colonists arrived in modern-day New Gelderland from the northern border with Electrum. This group, fed up with the lack of opportunities in their area of Electrum, followed the Great Rushmori River into New Gelderland, establishing their colony centered around the confluence of the Great Rushmori and Rogue Rivers, modern-day Electrum. Yet a third group of colonists, from Austroslovakia, founded their own colony in the east of New Gelderland, seeking wealth in the fertile lands of this area. They did establish colonies along the Great Rushmori River, sometimes intermixing with the Electrumites. This group also expanded southward and colonized the eastern reaches of the Talos River. Modern legacies of this group's colonization include the cities of Vaduz and Noviodunum.

By the early 1800s and the Industrial Revolution, most of New Gelderland's present territory had been colonized. However, tensions began to rise between the German-speaking settlers of the east and the English-speaking settlers of the West. The two parties fought few brief skirmishes in contested areas along the Talos River, but they agreed to come to the negotiating table before these skirmishes erupted in wider bloodshed. At the Conference of Lexington, brokered with the help of the neutral Electrumites, the parties agreed to form the modern New Gelderland, with Lexington as the capital (as it was centrally located and hosted interests of both parties). Over time, the country industrialized rapidly and began to diversify from its agricultural roots. Today, New Gelderland is one of the most prosperous economies in Terranea in per-capita income, with its 15 million citizens enjoying a very high standard of living.

Economically, New Gelderland exists as a mostly service-based economy with significant contributions from agriculture and manufacturing. More specifically, tourism, financial services, research, and technology all contribute to New Gelderland's economy. In the agricultural sector, New Gelderland is known for its fine wines, spirits, chocolates, and other delicacies, as well as its seafood, such as crab, lobster, shrimp, and scallops. New Gelderland also produces large amounts of wheat, barley, and other grains in its Rogue, Great Rushmori, and Talos River Valleys. In the manufacturing sector, New Gelderland exports high technology and automobiles to customers all over the world.

Map of New Gelderland

Practical Concerns
New Gelderland generally prides itself on its liberal laws on most subjects, including legal marijuana (see the modern Dutch policy). It takes a less strict approach in guns than its northern neighbor, but guns are still highly regulated. The currency of New Gelderland is the guilder, at a conversion rate of around 1000 guilders to the USD and 1500 guilders to the Synergy. Most vendors around the vendor will take all three currencies, and most vendors in New Gelderland will take the Guilder and USD. For those with Synergies or NSDs wishing to convert into Guilders (and vice versa), currency exchange vendors will be located throughout the venues as well as in Airports and Train Stations.

Transportation-wise, New Gelderland is connected by a highly sophisticated system of high-speed rail that connects all the major cities and venues within New Gelderland. Mainly, the line that travels from Electrum down south to Nassau Bay continues southwards towards Arrowhead Point and Queenstown. At Nassau Bay's central station, passengers can transfer to the east-west line heading to Lexington and Vaduz. Further train links connect Arrowhead Point with Noviodunum and Vaduz, and a line between Lexington and Noviodunum that heads north into Electrum and Prescott. New Gelderland is linked to the wider Rushmori economy through plane with most areas of Rushmore, through Air Terranea, train to Rhodesiah and Electrum (and onwards to Eura), and ferry to Electrum, Nouvelle Angouleme, and Ceni. Nassau Bay International Airport is the country's main air hub, and the Nassau Bay Central train station serves as a major center for train travel.

Nassau Bay
While not the political capital of New Gelderland, Nassau Bay is most definitely the country's economic, cultural, and sporting capital. Most of the country's premier institutions call this vibrant and cosmopolitan city of four million their home, including the country's main stock exchange, most of New Gelderland's major financial companies, and many premier cultural institutions, such as the ballet company, symphonic orchestra, choir, and theater. Nassau Bay also serves as a culinary hub, drawing on its roots as an agricultural terminus where products would be shipped from the fertile interior to other nations in Rushmore for sale, and is at the forefront of modern cuisine.

Geographically, the city centers itself around the Talos River and its mouth in the Terranean Sea and Nassau Bay itself. A historic waterfront lines the shores of the bay, while the Cultural District spans the south bank of the river. Along the north banks, the Royal Quay District hosts Nassau Bay's financial institutions. Suburban homes radiate out to the north, south, and west of the city's core. The Olympic Park is located to the north of the waterfront in the neighborhood of Westmore Bluff, until recently lightly developed (now, it is a hub of suburban development). To the south of the core, working-class areas reflect a history of immigration; industrial sectors and the port also are situated to the south of the Talos. In the bay itself, Bay Island boasts an excellent park and castle.

At this time of year, the climate of Nassau Bay is similar to that of Electrum. However, it may be a little bit more extreme due to its more southerly location. In all, though, Nassau Bay's climate should be mild and temperate, pleasing for visitors and athletes alike. Rain or snow storms should be sparse for the duration of the event, but there always is that possibility. Most of the city will be blanketed by the colors of fall as many of the city's trees turn their colors into beautiful hues before the coming of winter.

Nassau Bay was founded in the mid-1600s as a colonial experiment by a group of English-speaking Endemian settlers, who were attracted by the excellent natural harbor as well as the proximity to the Talos River, which helped to facilitate transportation of agricultural products down river. The area gained importance as a trading port as a more global and interconnected economy emerged throughout the 1700s and 1800s; Nassau Bay also led New Gelderland's industrialization efforts.

Olympic Stadium
Image

The Olympic Stadium in Nassau Bay, New Gelderland's largest city, holds a capacity of 54,000 when supporting football matches. A retractable seating area was used during the Olympics to convert the football pitch into a stadium suitable for athletics events. Olympic closing ceremonies and preliminary football matches were held in the stadium during the Olympics as well. Located in the Westmore Bluff area of Nassau Bay, the stadium's normal tenants are Olympic Nassau Bay. The stadium hosts a majority of New Gelderland's home matches in international sporting events.

Hosting: All New Gelderland matches, most other Group 1 matches, Ro16/QF/SF/F/3P matches

Other venues
National Stadium, Lexington
Image

Lexington is the capital of New Gelderland and home to around 2 million people. While it does function as the capital, it also serves as a banking hub and a transportation hub, with links to Electrum. Lexington's nightlife and food options will also wow visitors at night, and in the daytime, spectators can visit any of Lexington's spectacular parkland. Lexington was founded when a group of Electrumite settlers migrated into New Gelderland looking for farming opportunities, and Lexington, situated at the confluence of the Rogue and Great Rushmori Rivers, was a perfect place to sell produce and set up markets. The stadium itself usually hosts Terranean League side Lexington Victory for its home games and sometimes hosts the New Gelderlish national team. It served as a host stadium for football at the Olympics and seats 47,500.

Hosting: 1/3 Group 1 matches, 1/3 Group 2 matches, Ro16/QF/SF matches

Celtic Park, Noviodunum
Image

Noviodunum had the same historical function as Lexington, although for a different group: a Celtic group of people migrating from an area near today's Austroslovakia established this farming settlement as a marketplace for the various farmers scattered around. As the closest Austroslovakian settlement to the rapidly growing English settlement, Noviodunum was a flashpoint for several skirmishes that ultimately caused the creation of New Gelderland. Today, Noviodunum boasts a vibrant Celtic community with their culture still intact, and spectators can also listen to Celtic music at seemingly all hours of the day in this city of 1.5 million. The fort (or dunum) that is the city's namesake can be visited by all interested. The side Celtic Noviodunum plays at this innovative stadium, which seats 40,000 for football matches.

Hosting: 2/3 Group 2 matches, Ro16/QF matches

Riverbank Stadium, Vaduz
Image

Vaduz was one of the other major farm settlements established in the Austroslovakian migration, and it was spared most of the fighting in the more southerly regions. While this historic city of 800,000 might not have played much of a part in Gelderlish history, it still boasts displays of historic architecture, and the castle at Vaduz overlooking the river is one of the most beautiful in the region. Spectators should make sure to visit the riverside's many trails and flower gardens, a pretty sight for all. The stadium itself seats 30,000 and hosts Vaduz Portcullis's home games in the Terranean League.

Hosting: 2/3 Group 3 matches, Ro16/QF matches

Bank of Terranea Park, Arrowhead Point
Image

Arrowhead Point, a city of 600,000, hosts the Bank of Terranea Park, home to the Terranean League side Arrowhead Point.

Hosting: 1/3 Group 3 matches, 1/3 Group 4 matches, 2 Ro16 matches

Queenstown Coliseum, Queenstown
Image

Queenstown, a city of 1 million, hosts the Queenstown Coliseum and the Terranean League side Royal Queenstown. Both Queenstown and Arrowhead Point were founded by the Endemian British to further capitalize on seafood resources and trading opportunities with other Terranean areas.

Hosting: 2/3 Group 4 matches, 2 Ro16 matches

NEW GELDERLAND ROSTER FOR COPA RUSHMORI XXIII >>>
The New Gelderland Football Federation is proud to present the roster of the champions of the 60th Baptism of Fire for the 23rd Copa Rushmori.

GENERAL INFORMATION >>>
Style: -3
Football is one of the most popular and well-known sports in New Gelderland. Most people avidly follow or play football recreationally or casually. While the Euran League is the most popular league in New Gelderland, a nascent New Gelderlish league is forming to capitalize on the talent and interest of New Gelderland. As part of the popularity of football, the New Gelderland Football Federation was more than happy to send a team to its Terranean neighbors Eura and Valladares to compete in the Baptism of Fire, and, later, World Cup qualification matches home and away. At the first tournament that they ever played, the team won the 60th Baptism of Fire after a tense 3-2 victory over Fluvique. In their first World Cup cycle, New Gelderland reached the quarterfinals of the Cup of Harmony. New Gelderland further added the Olympic men's gold medal to their resume at the Olympics held jointly in Electrum and New Gelderland.

Stylistically, the New Gelderlish national football team tends to play somewhat defensively. When playing on the offense, in contrast, the team tends to play opportunistically, watching and waiting for opportunities rather than all-out attacking. Offensive play also tends to focus on the midfield, where Louis Rhodes is more than capable of creating opportunities for Luke Virgo and Ben Griffin. Defensively, New Gelderland is known for producing very capable goalkeepers with good reflexes and eyes on the ball. The defensive side is also known for its good combination of man-to-man tactics as well as zonal defense and its tackling and pass interception abilities. With the ball, New Gelderland will likely pass the ball around until they see an opportunity; without the ball, they will try to force the ball into the defenders, try to intercept passes, or try and tackle.

Most of New Gelderland's football roster is, surprisingly, young, despite the expectations that New Gelderland would want to field its most experienced team. However, because of the dominance of the Euran league in New Gelderland's football history and the relative lack of prominence of Gelderlish players (who have not, until yet, had the opportunity to play professionally in a football league in New Gelderland), most of the best and experienced Gelderlish players are very young. This also correlates with a very young demographic trend in the population of New Gelderland itself.

Closing ceremonies as well as some preliminary football matches would be held in the stadium as well. SAN LLERA NATIONAL TEAM
Image

Name: San Llera National Team
Nickname: The Swagfish
President: Agusti Llano
Head Coach: Marko Vujvic
Assistant Coaches: Pietro Madonna, Pere Dissa
Factbook: Here
Style Modifier: +.65

History of San Llera
San Llera has a long and storied history and has always had a passion for the game (In fact, the native peoples of San Llera claim to have invented soccer, though their claim is rarely recognized or even acknowledged). However, San Llera didn't star playing internationaly until recently. Just prior to that World Cup, San Llera participated in its first international tournament, a tournament for newcomers entitled the Baptism of Fire. The Baptism of Fire started very well for San Llera with a perfect 5-wins-in-5-games group stage, but the 1-seed San Llera was knocked out in the round of 16 by 16-seed Flardania. It was a disappointing end to their run, but it still left San Llera confident that they could do well in World Cup Qualifying. Unfortunately, they were often left at the mercy of more experienced nations, and San Llera disappointed their hopeful fanbase with a mere 11 points in 14 games, not even coming close to qualifying for the World Cup.

In San Llera's second attempt at qualifying for the World Cup, they hoped to do a bit better now that they had some experience, but they disappointed once again. With 14 points, a small improvement, they left qualifying in sixth place and without a ticket to either the World Cup or the Cup of Harmony. However, they did settle for an invite to the Runner Cup, where they found more success against weaker opponents, eventually being outed in the semifinals but finishing third in the tournament, the best finish for a San Lleran team at any sporting event to date. San Llera looked to ride that momentum into their first regional competition, the Copa Rushmori. But they didn't ride momentum. Instead, they lost three games out of three, none of which were particularly close. Now they will head into their second Copa Rushmori, fresh off of a decent if not fantastic third attempt at World Cup qualification.

As for the history of the nation itself, here is an excerpt from the national factbook:
"San Llera came into existence as the natives rose up against their overseas captors in 1857. After a bloody coup which resulted in the beheadings of most foreign government officials, San Llera remained stagnant as the natives returned to their old ways. The first president of San Llera was Dorano Trecci, a member of the Homeland Party. Parties have since been outlawed in San Llera. Recently, with the "presidency" of Alejandro Llano, San Llera has experienced a boom in population and economy along with urbanization. However, the people maintain their old traditions today."

Coaching Staff

Head Coach Image Marko Vujvic - After former head coach Jon Lleranerus sadly fell into a coma and died, his loyal assistant Marko Vujvic became the interim whilst San Llera looked for a replacement. That replacement ended up being Vujvic himself. Vujvic is not from San Llera but Szavoda, which garnered a lot of controversy when he was hired, but the people of San Llera have come to quite like the coach. He is outgoing yet calm and known for his tactical skill, making him the polar opposite of his predecessor.
Assistant Coach Image Pietro Madonna - No relation to singer, Madonna is very good at helping to develop young players. He is the only coach San Llera has who is adept at making players better.
Assistant Coach Image Pere Dissa - A very similar coach to the deceased Lleranerus, Dissa is passionate and very outspoken about his beliefs. Players coached by him tend to be very conditioned.

Roster
Postion First Name Last Name - Age - Club - Description
GK Chimo Fons (VC) - 32 years old - Image Llerana SC - A reliable keeper who is commanding in the air and almost never makes mental errors, Fons is the obvious choice for starting goalkeeper despite some struggles in the last World Cup.
GK Marcel Fons - 28 years old - Image Llara Llera - The younger brother of Chimo, Marcel is considered a keeper for the future. The future looked to be now after struggles from Chimo in the World Cup, but Marcel was horrid when placed into the starting position at the last Copa Rushmori, and hence he is resigned to the bench for now.
GK Denis Thoda - 22 years old - Image Cenial Liberty - Easily San Llera's most promising young goalkeeper, Thoda missed the Di Bradini Cup with an injury but is now healthy and better than ever. His insanely quick reflexes and success at Chell SC earned him a transfer to Ceni, where he will look to continue his success.
LB Jacque Olivier - 30 years old - Image Llerana SC - San Llera's pool of left backs is remarkably shallow, and they will have to settle for Jacque Olivier to start this Copa Rushmori. Olivier has made tons of starts for San Llera, so he has plenty of experience, but he hasn't been particularly good. He is famous for being one of the most unspectacular players, and people in general, you will ever meet. Left back may be a weakness for the Swagfish this tournament.
CB Alexandre De Gonia - 30 years old - Image Llerana SC - "The Soviet Swan" is the dirtiest player on the team, and will slide tackle anyone in sight. However, those who know him will tell you that he's a very kind, gentle, and romantic man. But if you see him on the pitch, you will start to doubt this.
CB Gerard Quella - 27 years old - Image Scottopia City - Four World Cups ago, Quella was a shock selection who nobody had heard of. But solid World Cup play and his team's inclusion in the inaugural season of San League Soccer have made him an established player known for his clever passing. Now Quella is in his third World Cup, and he has emerged as perhaps San Llera's best center back.
RB Antoni Belles - 25 years old - Image Granger Dragonites - Belles is a young speedster that loves to overlap with winger and put in crosses but often gets caught in possession. However, he recently has been better at getting back on defense and not acting his age. Impressive San League soccer performances lured him overseas to Granger Dragonites in the Northern Sunrise
Islands.
LB Ramondiera - 18 years old - Image Besmarlaltur Wanderers - Tremendous work rate and blazing speed up and down the flank, but technically he's still very raw. An experimental choice for this squad.
CB Marc Abello - 34 years old - Image Pantans - Once a prodigy, a horrific injury stopped his progress but he has worked his way back onto the national team. Then he came back and became one of the best defenders on the national team, with his great passing ability and acute awareness. Abello is thrust into a backup role this Copa due to his decline with age and the emergence of other players at his position.
CB Robert Rivello - 23 years old - Image Llara Llera - A Di Bradini Cup star, Rivello is now earning his second call-up to the national team. He is a very feisty defender, a bit dirty at times, but in a good way. Opposing strikers should fear him.
RB Amerigo - 22 years old - Image AS Mantegapa - Another player from the fourth-place Di Bradini Cup of two years ago team that earned a call up, Amerigo is seen as a somewhat experimental addition to the team, and he won't play too much barring an injury ahead of him. If he does play, Amerigo is an excellent crosser of the ball and a very hard-working player, but sometimes tries to run up and down the flank too much.
LW Pelechamchas - 29 years old - Image Chell SC - What Pelechamchas lacks in pure talent, he makes up for in pure speed. The 6'4" winger isn't the greatest natural soccer player in Rushmore or the world, but he is a beast in the air with his height and nearly impossible to keep up with for defenders. He is admittedly not great defensively (although he's improving), but the offensive threat he offers with his speed and excellent ability to whip in crosses, never mind use his six feet and four inches to latch on to crosses, earns him a place on the team.
CM Enric Bou - 23 years old - Image Real Old Maiz - After breaking out as an 20-year-old in the last World Cup, Bou iplayed even better in the next. And his recent play has indicated that is one of the best San Llera players in this Copa, after starring in the San League and moving to Zenic with Real Old Maiz. Bou, while still a bit lanky, is well beyond his years in passing.
CM Hector Fonda - 28 years old - Image Hasilpur Ox's - "The Sponge" is one of the most popular players on San Llera, and he backs that popularity up with his talent. Fonda is rough, tough, and a beast in the defensive midfield who is feared by attackers and makes the defenders' lives much easier. He has also recently developed very nice chemistry with Bou, his partner in central midfield.
RW Don Llorens (VC) - 34 years old - Image Llerana SC - Llorens, still probably San Llera's best player, was widely criticized five years ago when he played horridly in the World Cup. But he rebounded, and showed his talent in World Cup 72. Now, Llorens is aging, but still might be the best player San Llera has to offer, with his wide array of skills in shooting, passing, dribbling, and defense.
LW Adam Gasca - 20 years old - Image Deline Athletic - Former teenage sensation slowly coming into his own. Like his career, his play seemingly runs in slow motion but is surprisingly effective
CM Oscar Cardona - 25 years old - Image Patria Poble - The star on San Llera's first Di Bradini Cup, Cardona has all the tools to be a great center-mid, with good vision, silky passing, and flashy dribbling. He is also, reportedly, a great locker room presence, unlike Paulo Masias, the player that he replaces in this roster.
CM Teodor Alemany - 24 years old - Image Klyde - With Cardona, Marko Vujvic also put his former U-21 partner in the midfield, Teodor Alemany. Alemany is a defensive midfielder of the San Lleran mold, being rough and not afraid of anybody. He is currently plying in trade in Cosumar with Klyde.
RW Guifre Gil - 32 years old - Image Chell SC - Gil is an incredible dribbler and favorite of the fans, but stuck behind Don Llorens on the depth chart. He's established himself as a solid player, but not enough beyond that to get serious minutes.
ST Carles Mestre - 28 years old - Image Familia Llano - Mestre, at his best, is clearly the starting striker for San Llera and perhaps the best player on the team. However, Mestre at his worst doesn't deserve to be in consideration for the roster. Marko Vujvic will certainly hope he gets the good side of the 5'1" striker this Copa Rushmori.
ST Jan Capo - 26 years old - Image Chell SC - Jan is talented but has attitude problems. At the age of 20, Capo was caught on camera killing a man outside of a nightclub, and he was promptly convicted of murder. Then, in a strange turn of events, he was pardoned by Great Leader Alejandro Llano. Capo is now a free man, but seems to be on a course back to jail based on his track record of fights and off-field incidents.
ST Bellemurillo - 23 years old - Image Arsenal de Releinthi - Bellemurillo, currently a free agent, was the leading goalscorer in San Llera's last Di Bradini Cup, which earned him a call-up to the national team. He is incredibly speedy and smart with his speed (in terms of making clever runs) but not a fantastic finisher.
ST Dwight - 29 years old - Image Camp Pende - Big, burly striker Dwight scored tons of goals in San League Soccer, preying especially on inexperienced defenses. He may not see many of those here, unfortunately.

HOME STADIUM
Name: Stadion van Legendes / Stadium of Legends
Long Name: Die KRUGER Arms and Mercenaries Stadion van Legendes / The KRUGER Arms and Mercenaries Stadium of Legends
Seats: 85,600
Physical Address: Strad van Berest (Strad 19) 36-125, Praetors' Point
Description: The Stadium of Legends, South Yerfilag's largest sport venue and home to its national soccer team, is a state-of-the-art stadium located in the southwest corner of its capital city, Praetors' Point, on the corner of 36th Avenue and 19th Street. Its capacity of 85,600 (during the main association football season) also makes it an ideal venue for many other nationally-oriented non-sport contests, such as the national musical talent contest (South Yerfilag Sings!) and the National Cheerleading and Dance Finals, which are held using special platforms to avoid wearing down the turfed surfaces. It is located 16 km away from the National Plaza, home to South Yerfilag's national government offices, and 21 km away from ZedCel Park, home to South Yerfilag's national baseball team.

MANAGERIAL STAFF
Manager: Ender Wiggin
Ender Wiggin did not manage to perform the second of his three miracles that would likely grant him sainthood by qualifying the Purple Knights for World Cup 73 but now he has a chance to one up himself by coming back to the Copa Rushmori and leading the rather surprise winners of the last tournament back to the hallowed realms of Copa Rushmori champions. To do so he will have to ignite a team that looked more than sluggish in qualifiers, but his attacking flair has led the fans to much hope heading into the tournament.

Assistant Manager: Mark Tlumach
Tlumach did a lot of the day to day operations with last years team, but in looking for some new blood for this season he may have hit a jackpot. Some of the young midfielders seem like the type that could definitely lead to the team being one of the best in the world once again.

GOALKEEPERS

1 - Xavier Troubador - Fadron Flight 19 Caps, 24 Years Old
Xavier Troubador may not be the best Taeshani Goalkeeper ever, but he is definitely the best in recent memory. The team seems likely to rely on him in the upcoming tournament, and hopefully like two years ago he can manage to push the team to the top of the region.

12 - Temptress Avalon - Tintown Terrapins 0 Caps, 24 Years Old
Temptress Avalon comes into this tournament as the third string keeper.

24 - Gregoire Avery - New Capetown Falcons 0 Caps, 20 Years Old
Avery is a serviceable backup, though is just a few years away from being the world beater that he will need to be to lead the Knights back to glory.

DEFENDERS

2 - LB, William Bloomsbury - Bayern-Algaer 59 Caps, 28 Years Old
Bloomsbury is the speedy left back for the Purple Knights and the team uses him to push the team forward. He plays very well in attack and gets back to stop the counter attack very well.

3 - CB, Andrew Chesnut - Los Riosa Monstas 22 Caps, 24 Years Old
Andrew Chesnut was elevated to the position of starting Center Back 3 campaigns ago and for the most part it has been seen as a rousing success. The player has really elevated the team as a whole, and his chemistry with Orion Black is much better than Orion's with his previous partner.

4 - CB, Orion Black - Eastweald (Cosumar) 59 Caps, 2 Goals, 27 Years Old
Orion Black is the tall center back of the two and he plays with a lot of speed as well. He plays more forward, and with the ball at his feet accidents are prone to happen. As long as he just stays in position on corners, and away from the ball in the attack besides corner kicks, the team should have success.

5 - RB, Benedict Broadway - Fadron Flight 59 Caps, 28 Years Old
Broadway is the more prone to stay back fullback on the team. He plays the ball out of the back with Chesnut, and once in a while manages to push the play. He stays back on all free kicks and attacks and a lot of time ends up being the back man in the offside trap, which can often be a liability as he plays on the side of the field and not the center.

20 - Jefferson Lafitte - 1093 Club de Atlantea 3 Caps, 22 Years Old
Jefferson Lafitte is the air apparent at Center Back and will likely soon pair with Andrew Chesnut. He is a tall center back as well, but unlike most of his stature is very good with the ball, and likes to get forward. That said he is not a good header of the ball, and will only see time in situations where the team is killing the game off, and not trying to score a tying or winning goal late.

21 - Moki Nguyen - Real Old Maiz (Zenic) 7 Caps, 23 Years Old
Moki Nguyen is an adapt Center Back, but more of a fullback in nature. He tends to play forward, and will likely one day be a starting fullback opposite of Gordon Bombay. He is a jack of all trades for the Purple Knights and can play anywhere on the back line, and is even played as a ball hawking Center Defensive Midfielder.

22- Gordon Bombay - Real Atlantea 8 Caps, 25 Years Old
Gordon Bombay is probably the fastest player on the team and bombs up and down the field, usually on the left side. More of a Wingback than a fullback he can sometimes get caught in attack, but for the most part he has the speed to get back and defend after offensive mistakes.

MIDFIELDERS

6 - CDM, Maxwell McMichael - Knightspurs 17 Caps, 26 Years Old
Maxwell McMichael is one of the best players in the Taeshani Premier League and was one of the main reasons the Purple Knights were able to stun everyone and win the last Copa Rushmori. The team as a whole is better when he is on the field and he stops opposing attacks before they even have time to develop.

7 - LM, Josmer Medici - Unattached 29 Caps, 28 Years Old
Josmer Medici is a pacy left wing type player who does most of the free kicks for the Purple Knights. He has a magical left foot, and honestly has one of the best off feet as well for the team which makes him a threat wherever he gets the ball on the field.

8 - RM, Lysander Ying Uing - Bayern Phoenix 114 Caps, 7 Goals, 31 Years OldCaptain
Lysander Ying Uing may never get the amount of caps that his father did, and will get nowhere near the amount of goals he scored, but he has done more for the team than his father did. He is looking to win his second tournament, and the team very well could do so. That said he may not have many chances left.

9 - CAM, Xander McDrew - Bayern Phoenix 108 Caps, 50 Goals, 30 Years OldVice-Captain
Xander McDrew continues to be a goal threat, but with the emergence of Miles Snavely he has been pushed into a more subdued role. He manages the attack and plays a forward playmaking position. He finds a forward, and they shoot. For the most part it works.

15 - Everett Eskandarian - Llara Llera (San Llera) 0 Caps, 24 Years Old
Eskandarian has been given his chance to shine for the national team, the right winger is a big part of his club, and seems in form as we enter the tournament, and many hope he can have an impact on the events.

16- Marko Hanoi - Tintown Terrapins 0 Caps, 24 Years Old
Maro Hanoi is the main center midfielder on the bench, and could likely see a bit of time on the field thanks to many of the former big players in the team moving out of the team. He could see a bit of action for the team.

17 - Jonas Boggart - Knightspurs 1 Cap, 27 Years Old
Jonas Boggart is a possession minded player and plays both on the wings and in the center, so could he could see play late in games where the Knights have a lead, but not much otherwise, as the team plays mostly counter attack football.

18 - Emile Marchond - X Island Marauders - 6 Caps, 25 Years Old
Emile Marchond is the best and perhaps only left sided midfielder on the Purple Knights bench. He is not as speedy as Medici, but he has many of the attributes needed in a left winger for counter attacking football.

19 - Asher Victorious - Taeshan City Miners 3 Caps, 26 Years Old
Asher Victorious could likely see a lot more time this tournament as he could be needed a lot on the wings, and he could be used in a more defensive fullback position as well.

STRIKERS

10 - LS, Miles Snavely - Kernansquillec City(Kernansquillec) 19 Caps, 12 Goals, 20 Years Old
Miles Snavely has been a revelation for the Purple Knights. He scored in every game in the last Copa Rushmori and added many goals in the qualifying campaign. The team will revolve around his ability to put the ball in the back of the net, and honestly he can do that, but for how long?

11 - RS, - Peter Wiggin - OAS Royal FC (Cosumar) 27 Caps, 1 Goal, 27 Years Old
Peter Wiggin does not score the goals, but he holds the ball up and this allows interplay between Xander McDrew and Miles Snavely to work. That leads to goals. It seemed nepotism at first for him to start, but now it just seems right.

13 - Landon van Neymar - Blacklake Blues 17 Caps, 5 Goals, 21 Years Old
Landon van Neymar is the bright spark off the bench. His interplay with Snavely in the last Copa Rushmori is now one of the biggest pieces of Taeshani lore. He runs well at tired legs, and he didn't exactly do as well in the last qualifiers, but it was noted that he had a slight knock for much of the year and his form was well down. Now with some rest he seems destined to help the team forward.

14 - Taylor Van Zant - Ojian Orangemen 1 Cap, 27 Years Old
Taylor Van Zant is likely the lowest of the strikers, and perhaps the lowest of all players on the team, but every dog has his day i guess.

23 - Val Valjean - Real Atlantea 2 Caps, 6 Goals, 24 Years Old
Val Valjean had two epic games two qualifiers ago, two hattricks and has not seen the field since. He has been injured, he has been out of form, and he has been out of sorts in all that time. That said he is always a threat, but whether or not he will see the field again is an interesting study in the managerial staff.

"Another cycle, another Copa Rushmori. It seems like we get done dueling it out in the World Cup just to go straight into duking it out in the Copa Rushmori with just a year-long rest," commented Luke Killian.

"Why do you have to be so melodramatic, Dad? We just got here a few hours ago," replied Joshua Killian, the eldest son of the manager and now starting goalkeeper of the senior national team. "Seriously, I feel like you're doing that just to embarass me in front of the other players." A chuckle escaped from Victor Paredes. "Joshua's got you read like an open book, Luke. " Some of the other players who were around laughed at the scene going on.

"Haha, real funny, Victor. Get back to stretching everyone, we're about 5 minutes away from beginning practice," Luke commanded with everyone following his orders. "That goes for you too, Joshua." The two exchanged glances before the younger Killian left to join Hiroyama Sai to stretch in front of some of the goals. "So, how does it feel to have one of your kids on the squad?"

"It feels weird. Feels similar to when I would occassionally coach them in their junior soccer leagues. I loved those moments. However, now they're almost grown adults. Man, this is weird," Killian replied to Paredes. "And you're going to put your oldest son through the ringer in his first go-around on the senior side by starting him in the Copa Rushmori as a welcoming gift? That's some strange love you got there, Luke."

"Oh, come on man. We've got Szavoda, Filopines, and South Yerfilag coming up first so he can ease into it. Plus, Joshua and his friends almost won the Di Bradini Cup a few months back. He's definitely ready for the big leagues, Victor," Luke retorted, playing with his whistle around his neck. Victor raised his hands in defeat. "Whatever you say, Luke. It is your kid, after all."

"You seem to also be forgetting that I'm starting the Hernandez and Ruiz kid as well. I have no doubt a few of the kids from that group will be superstars in the future." Paredes couldn't question him on that topic. "It is true. You seem to have a knack at finding the most talented youngsters in the Empire so I'll trust you on that. Guess we'll just have to see how quickly they can adapt to the highest level of play."

"Let's just hope they can adapt before the Eura and Electrum group stage matches. That is where Group 3 will be determined," Killian stated before blowing on his whistle to begin practice.

POLAASKAN NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM, OFFICIAL COPA RUSHMORI XXIII SQUAD[/align]

STAFF:
Manager: Bosko Zhamaletdinov, 47
After guiding Volcano FK to the title two seasons ago, amongst other good performances in his three-year tenure, the PFA decided to appoint Zhamaletdinov to the position of manager but have still kept interim manager Otto Omirov on as a first team coach. The duo were midfield partners in Volcano back in the day, and Zhamaletdinov has decided to appoint some of his former teammates to the coaching staff., with recently retired Frans Martinsson being one of the new coaches despite them never playing together. After retiring from playing aged 37, Zhamaletdinov was a first team coach and U21 manager simultaneously for two years before being promoted to assistant for one year. At the close of that season, then-manager Darijo Simak decieded to leave and Zhamaletdinov was appointed manager, where he guided them to one title and two cups, which is adequate enough for PFA President Mikhaelo Vrjak.

Assistant manager: Maries van Romker, 56
Zhamaletdinov’s assistant at Volcano, previously the manager of Dutch Semarland’s national team. Half Dutch Semar himself, when the gritty centre-back retired from playing aged 34, he moved back to Dutch Semarland where he managed Inter Zotanekko and FK Kemsterdam before the national team, but returned to Polaaskan when he was sacked from his national team job. Widely expected to the be the defensive coach by some, Zhamaletdinov decided to keep him as his assistant. Rather loud like his colleague, van Romker is someone on the touchline you shouldn’t mess with.

Notes

This is the same Feministvs Sanctvsterra team that previously competed in Qualifying for World Cup 67. At that time, they were regarded as a terrorist organization by the government of Saintland, which was boycotting the World Cup after losing a host vote. In reality, they were a radical feminist group that had used controversial tactics to promote themselves. Feministvs Sanctvsterra members, at that time, used false names in order to protect their safety. Now, they are a political party which is contesting the first ever election for a Sanctii Parliament.

They are a defensive-minded team. Due to the circumstances under which members of the organization lived, the Feministvs Sanctvsterra Soccer Team has high levels of team chemistry. They lived their lives on the run from the authorities for several years, so members of Feministvs Sanctvsterra are deeply loyal to one another and to their organization. This loyalty translates into team-oriented play, with a focus on gaining and maintaining possession rather than attacking.

Although the Feministvs Sanctsterra Soccer Team does not include any male players, the idea that Feministvs Sanctvsterra is all female is a common misconception. Around 10 percent of the group's membership is male, mostly comprised of brothers of the group's members.

They made a second try at Qualifying for World Cup 73, qualifying easily and making it to the Round of 16 without a single defeat. This included a draw with The Holy Empire. However, they lost to Quebec in the Round of 16.

Starting Lineup, Formation, and Tactics:

Image

Valladares' usual formation is a 3-2-2-3 (or 3-4-3 for general reference), which can turn into either a very aggressive yet non-conventional 3-2-5 for attacking or a 5-4-1 (a 3-6-1, even) when the team feel the need to enter into a defensive mode. La Nacional will always be looking to attack and retain ball possession for as long as possible, trying to score many goals in the shortest possible time and mounting an insurmountable lead for the second half of the match when players from both teams start showing signs of fatigue. This squad mostly relies on the speed of both Abel Brücke and Eduardo on the wings both in attack and in defense modes, with defensive midfielders Alain Démont and Pierre Magnin being able to retreat to the defensive line with ease whenever the team lose ball possession in order to form a line of 5 defenders, thus giving rival forwards a very hard time when trying to break through the Valladar defense. The 3 forwards are also very speedy and talented but most of all, dangerous: they can turn seemingly harmless crosses into goals, create chances and score goals out of nothing, and kill defenses with speed and lethal counterattacks.

Postby San Llera » Wed Dec 30, 2015 8:05 pm

OOC: Nothing to do with San Llera, instead based in Ortola. Some mild swearing.

"Why do you say so?"

Li'o was silent. He knew there was nothing to say to this authoritative and above all stubborn man. Instead of speaking, Li'o rose from his chair and started pacing around the room. He looked out the window. Even in a city of skyscrapers, there was no sign of humanity in any direction but down. He felt a surge of power. I am above you all, he thought. Then Li'o looked at his companion in the room, and begrudgingly accepted who really had the power.

Li'o paced more, nearly knocking over a vase in the process. "That's antique, from the Sea People age."

"Sorry, sir. But you know that the Sea People were just a myth."

"Well, that shit was found underwater, so I say it was from the Sea People." Li'o didn't want to question Par'far'lar'e further. Li'o knew his place.

"How do you feel about the Sea People?"

"They were barbarians. Uncivilized. Freaks, I would say. But they made nice vases." Li'o could see that questioning Par'far'lar'e further about the Sea People wasn't going to get his point across any further. So he tried a more direct approach.

"Sir, they're hu-"

"HUMAN?" Par'far''lar'e's voice rumbled throughout the room, nearly shattering Li'o's eardrums. Li'o made a mental note to not say the word "human" again. A guard opened the door, momentarily stalling an angry outburst.

"Everything OK, sir?"

"Just fine, Jenk'o. I'll call if I need you." Par'far'lar'e stood up for the first time in the meeting. His 7-foot, 225-pound figure dwarved Li'o. Li'o was fairly short for an Or'o person, at just six foot one. Par'far'lar'e was not.

"Human? You're saying these... these monsters, who eat their own children, who tried to enslave us once, and with that failing, tried to kill us, and they're humans? Those three-foot freaks? Have you remembered nothing from your schooling, Li'o? Those Orts are not human." Li'o knew better than to talk back. He did it anyways.

"But don't they deserve just-"

"They don't deserve anything!" Li'o may have been imagining it, but the ground shook at the gravity of par'far'lar'e's voice. Li'o understood why the man who he was standing before hadn't been challenged for 15 years. Par'far'lar'e was the president of Ortol'a. Presidents are allowed a three-year grace period when they do their duty free of politicking. Normally challenges rush in at the moment of the period ending. But with Par'far'lar'e, they did not. In fact, not a single challenge has arrived since the only challenger did so five years into the presidency. The said challenger is now at the bottom of some reef somewhere.

Par'far'lar'e's eyes narrowed. "Get out," he said sharply. Words formed in Li'o's mouth, but he had the right mind to not let them come out. He stomped out of the room and slammed the double doors behind him, to the protest of the guards. Yes, Li'o was well aware that they were made from a rare wood only found in a single remote patch of trees deep in a forest somewhere over the moon. But at that moment, he didn't really care.

THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF THE UNITED SOCIALIST STATES OF PRIDNESTROVIA
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM

It has been at least six years since Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko was defeated in glorious battle against the forces of the Democratic Republic of Abanhfleft, six years since the greatest field marshal the world has ever seen was undisputably beaten by the forces of a faraway country that was still in the midst of recovering from a devastating religious civil war. Those six years have seen humiliation upon humiliation bestowed by these meddling foreigners upon the once and only rightful ruler of the United Socialist States, Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko. The nation, and our Great Leader, was forced to accept a humiliating peace with the "Democratic" Republic, which saw our glorious nation become a mere "client state" of these troublesome foreigners. In exchange, Great Leader Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko, would remain in position as rightful ruler of the Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States of Pridnestrovia, as befitting his station in life. Yet knowing that he is only ruler by virtue of a foreigner's whim has weighed down hard on the Great Leader Field Marshal. This resulted in the great United Socialist States closing itself off from the rest of the multiverse, so that no foreigner would see the shame that had been wrought upon the Great Leader.

But no longer. Great Leader Field Marshal Stepan Stepanovich Stepanenko has decided that the time for seclusion is over. No longer will Pridnestrovia remain under the shadow of the foreigners that had forced itself upon our great nation. We will show that Pridnestrovia has what it takes to become a real and true member of the multiversal community. But we will not do it through our military force. Instead, we will show that we are the best in the multiverse through sports! Sports, which is just codified barbarism! This will show the multiverse that Pridnestrovia is the best sporting country in the world! We will defeat every other nation that dares come up against us!

(OOC: I love being a dictatorial country's propaganda writer)

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation: The Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States of Pridnestrovia
Demonym: Pridnestrovian
Team colors: Green and red
Style modifier: +4 (Quite an attacking side)
Formation: 3-5-2
Head coach: Werner Ceausescu (62 y/o, Pridnestrovia)

STARTERS
GK: Svyatoslav Alkaev 28 y/o, Marinos Thimpodopoulos Image
One of the most recognizable faces of Pridnestrovian football. Alkaev was one of the rising stars of Sheriff Tiraspol's renowned Academy of Football and was already making waves as the Peacekeepers' cup keeper, making a couple of penalty shootout saves to win Sheriff the Pridnestrovian Cup over rivals Dinamo Bender when he received his first call-up as Pridnestrovia's starting keeper in the Baptism of Fire, which paved the way for his eventual signing by Fleftic Premier League side Marinos Thimpodopoulos, based in the Fleftic colony of Fhulghamous Peninsula, alongside fellow Pridnestrovian international Boyan Radev. There is no way but up for Alkaev, especially if this Copa Rushmori campaign is as good as the last one.

RB: Bohuslav Gavrilyuk 31 y/o, Sheriff Tiraspol Image
One of the dependable figures in both Sheriff Tiraspol and the Pridnestrovian national football team. Gavrilyuk has served both club and country well in the right back position, and while age is beginning to catch up to him, reducing his pace and acceleration a bit, he's still capable of making a good attack-breaking tackle, meaning there's still a few years left in him. Maybe ten more years. After all, his father Shimon played until he was 43.

CB: Aleksey Vasilyev 26 y/o, Locomotive Imgortur Image
Whoever said that a back line of only three defenders would be torn to pieces in the Fleftic Premier League obviously hadn't predicted the rise of Aleksey Vasilyev in the center back position, and while the departure of Charles Amoroso to Farfadillis may leave Locomotive in a dangerous position following their 7th-place finish last season, but hopefully some activity in the transfer window will add some strength to the backbone and add defensive strength alongside Vasilyev.

LB: Olek Budny 28 y/o, Rosenpfelblatz City Image
Budny replaced the aging Isidor Petrov in the starting lineup after an injury suffered while playing a friendly against Abanhfleft convinced Petrov to retire from international football. Budny is no slouch in defense, being a capable backup left-back for Rosenpfelblatz City and doing his share of game-winning or even game-tying tackles and defensive headers. He also does well for his country, although this is the first time that he has a chance to show that he has the capacity to do it for the whole ninety minutes.

RM: Dumitru Anghelescu 31 y/o, Sheriff Tiraspol Image
Anghelescu has the stereotypical qualities of Romanian Pridnestrovians writ large on the football field: often too attacking when the team needs to defend, and also oftentimes sitting back too deeply to actually be able to attempt some kind of offside trap when that was what the team strategy demanded. Anghelescu bombs everywhere just like how Pridnestrovians see Romanian Pridnestrovians, who are generally seen in Pridnestrovia as people who do the exact opposite of what they're told. Still, isn't that a bit offensive for Romanian Pridnestrovians?

RDM: Demyan Wasylyk 27 y/o, Dinamo Bender Image
Wasylyk plays well for both club and country, and he did score the 20-yard shot that let the Dynamos equalize against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Derby of All Derbies (even though he missed the penalty shot during the Pridnestrovian Cup Final against the same team). He has a penchant for the long shot from outside the box, and he does tend to convert these chances half of the time. Perhaps being a little more clinical in finishing shots and taking chances from inside the box could turn him into a real goalscoring threat.

CDM: Valentin Funar 28 y/o, Admiral Novorossiysk-na-Dnistr Image
Funar's calming presence in the center of midfield means that little to no mistakes happen in that part of the pitch whenever he's around. He has a mean tackle and can thunder in shots from long range, sometimes as far as the halfway line, but if he has a weakness, it is that sometimes he can be caught off guard when it comes to going back on defense. He plays well for Admiral Novorossiysk, but many people believe that he deserves a move to another, bigger club. Perhaps his performances in the Copa Rushmori will finally get him a move away from the midtable club.

LDM: Vladislav Bogomolov 28 y/o, Sheriff Tiraspol Image
One of the more dependable players in Pridnestrovia's packed defensive midfield, Bogomolov is yet another product of Sheriff's Academy of Football, and this shows in his high defensive output and work rate. Bogomolov will not hesitate to tackle and get physical with opposing players, which means that he has a career filled with bookings and sending offs. Opposing players may try to use this to get Bogomolov sent off, but more times than not, he doesn't need too much encouragement. He's happy and willing to do much of the dirty work himself.

LM: Demyan Pajari 22 y/o, Dinamo Bender Image
Pajari is the second player to be elevated from the bench to the starting lineup following the retirement from international football of his Dinamo teammate Yaroslav Wasylyshyn, who made the decision to hang up his international boots after getting injured in the same friendly against Abanhfleft that also convinced Isidor Petrov to retire from international footy. This isn't to say that Pajari isn't any good. He's got tons of potential, whole bagloads of them, and about the only thing holding him back from realizing this is the fact that he's got two left feet and can't control a long ball to save his life.

CF: Boyan Radev 24 y/o, Marinos Thimpodopoulos Image
Radev's performances in Baptism of Fire 58, World Cup 71 and Cup of Harmony 63 earned him a transfer from Sheriff Tiraspol's bench and into the starting lineup of Marinos Thimpodopoulos, the Fhulghamous-based club that turned into last season's surprise package in the Fleftic Premier League, not only achieving safety within the top flight but also getting up to a 10th place finish, the club's best ever finish to date, which isn't saying much considering that that was the Mariners' first season in the Prem. Radev combined with Pruski international Lukasz Przyborowski and German-born striker Friedemann Aleshire to make Marinos the third-highest scoring team in last season's Premier League, with only Arsenal de Releinthi and Riuwiee United scoring more than the colonial club. Radev is currently on hot form and will look to pass this onto his appearances for the national team.

CF: Selim Tiryaki 30 y/o, Arsenal de Releinthi Image, Captain
Tiryaki seemed like a panic buy to many Gooners when Godric Wexler picked him up from Sheriff Tiraspol as a bench option for Gal Tza'eer and Godzilla. Now, two years later, Tiryaki is now an important player in the side, and it's all down to his dedication in winning back the ball. He doesn't have the strength and hold-up play of Tza'eer and the outright doggedness of Godzilla, but when the ball is at Tiryaki's feet, magic happens. There's no other way to describe it. Surely he'll be able to do it for his country as well. He was put in the starting lineup to allow for the injured Peter Schermer to recover from his injury.

Day 2 vs. Image SZAVODA
Day 3 at Image ELECTRUM
Day 4 vs. Image FILOPINES
Day 5 at Image ZENIC

Day 1 Predictions
Outcome: Image 5 - 0 Image
Reasons: Eura just came off an amazing World Cup win. South Yerfilag is a dinky nation without an actual specific governing body for football, letting the association that governs baseball govern a national team. The result? Absolute hilarity. The Eurans amongst the match's audience will giggle as the captain, who the manager assigned to the 26-year-old left fullback, who is missing the Damukunian Spring Split of Football to play in this tournament, calls one awful play after another.
(0 pts., +0, -5, -5)

Day 2 Predictions
Outcome: Image 1 - 4 Image
Reasons: Szavoda is also a veteran team, although with not near as much clout as that of Eura. Allow for a mistake or two on Szavoda's part, maybe even let Jilly Jones score up the left side for South Yerfilag. But still, not near enough needed.
(0 pts., +1, -4, -8)

Day 3 Predictions
Outcome: Image 4 - 0 Image
Reasons: Electrum is about as good as Eura is, in our estimation. We were optimistic when we said 4-0 here. It would probably be more like 8-0. Electrum is consistent, and South Yerfilag is going to get tired of the barrage of goals scored by other teams that they might as well give up here.
(0 pts., +0, -4, -12)

Day 4 Predictions
Outcome: Image 3 - 3 Image
Reasons: Filopines has yet to see the light of day when it comes to international competition. But by this time, the South Yerfilag side will have garnered too little, too late for a chance at entering the playoff. Jilly Jones will have 2, James Speetzer will score his first.
(1 pt., +3, -3, -12)

Day 5 Predictions
Even if South Yerfilag wins against Zenic in this fifth and final match, all the South Yerfilagi will have left New Gelderland and there will be no moral support in the stands. If South Yerfilag pulled the upset, however, they'd be so far down in the dumps of their group that no one would care.

http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=327181 - Background.

SZAVODA FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION
Сзавода Фудбалски савез/Szavoda futbalový zväz

Szavoda has come a long way from it's humble, alcohol-hazed beginnings. It is now backed by a shifty, multi-billion dollar company, eager to pump the sport full of cash. At the helm is a Euran ex-National team coach, whilst the co-founder, Dazdan Iubirdic, begrudgingly takes his place beside him as his deputy. Somewhere in the backroom is Moli Dolanovic, although her exact role is unknown. In the intervening months between the last Cup of Harmony, SzaTec have set up the Szavda Pro League, with 8 franchise sides with no history or connection - don't let the faux-communist names fool you. The Szavda team has progressed rather unexpectedly to 58th in the world, with an impressive Quarter Final showing at the most recent Cup of Harmony and a Round of 16 finish in the Copa Rushmori. They were within a hair's breadth of qualifying for the World Cup Play-offs, losing out by a single point to Polkopia, and look forward to having another stab at qualification next time round, confident of success.

Management:

Head Coach: Louis Watson Image - Age: 56
The former Euran coaching staff-member and one-timed manager of the national comes into the vacant national team job under rather acrimonious circumstances (see the RP thread), as the backing body, SzaTec International, strong-armed the previous 'administration' into hiring him over their preferred candidate, Danielle Granger of Brenecia. Watson is a noted disciplinarian and man-manager, which could cause some grating in a dressing room of almost exclusively amateur, lazy student footballers, although the arrival of the Szavda Pro League has done something to increase footballing professionalism in the country.

Assistant Coach: Dazdan Iubirdic - Age: 46
The originator of the idea of football in Szavoda, Dazdan's life was at a low point when his wife left him, took most of his money, his child and all his skiing equipment. He'd just returned from a work posting in the icy wastelands of Svengarda and took up his dream with the mysterious Moli. Considers himself a tactical genius. Driven, passionate and perhaps going the way of crazy, Dazdan will do anything to see his dream succeed. He was offered the managership of the new Pro League franchise Vfana RKK, which he accepted, but remains as active as ever in the national set-up.

Physio: Dr. Janu Mazic - Age: 59
Hired specially to provide medical assistance and advice by the SFA a week before the BoF. An expert in muscle injuries, and a fan of money.

Defence Coach: Tristan Kuyter [NEPHARA] - Age: 44
Hired as a foreign expert to help coach the abysmally bad defence. A pretty thankless task, as the defence is more porous than a pile of sponges, but they're slowly working their way up. Doesn't quite get Moli, but hey, no one does. Credited with a significant improvement in the quality of the Szavda defence. Disappointed that Granger was not appointed to the manager's role, but satisfied enough with the suitcases of cash.

Playing Squad

Goalkeepers:

Nemanja Petrovic - Age: 22 - Team: Willow Street Pirates [SCHOTTIA]
A tall, sturdy keeper with a background in handball, which gives him sharp reflexes and an eye for the ball, and one of the few players on the side who cares for football, even foregoing a handball scholarship to a different University to remain in Nevograd to play football. Prefers the 'sweeper keeper' role, although he is prone to errors when outside the box. Superb in the Baptism of Fire, keeping three clean sheets and establishing himself as the Number 1. Had to pick the ball out of the net a fair few times in the World Cup, but developed well. He was the 3rd Szavda player to earn a professional contract overseas, playing for the Willow Street Pirates in Schottia. During his spare time there, he and his girlfriend have opened up a Szavda deli.

Stjepan Lukic - Age: 19 - Team: Union Kadlec
Diminutive in stature, at only 5ft 7", and bouncing full of energy. No particular sports background, just likes to get out in the fresh air and throw himself around in the mud. Prone to making rash decisions and doing perhaps unnecessary things which risk goals, much to the displeasure of his defence. Always a talkative presence behind the defensive line, even if it isn't always about football. No relation to Tim in the defence.

Defenders:

Slavko Stefanovic - Age: 22 - Team: Vfana RKK
An apprentice plumber from Vfana, Slavko operates as a traditional full-back, prowling up and down either the left or right flank, although for the purposes of the Baptism of Fire he will play on the right. He has good pace and sharp footwork, capable of delivering swinging crosses and corners.

Radmilo Novak - Age: 19 - Team: Union Kreceva
Good at both ends of the pitch, strong and physical in defence - which can often lead to penalties against his name -, with a smart head on his shoulders, and a real threat from set pieces down the other end. He'll always be up in the opposition box for free kicks and corners, capable of good headers. Also possesses and handy turn of pace and tackling skills to match attacking threats.

Tim Lukic - Age: 22 - Team: Foxhampton Image
A grizzled (if you can be grizzled at 22 years of age) centre back who takes no nonsense. Strong and powerful with the jump of a salmon, Tim is a big threat during attacking corners, but loves nothing more than to put an opposition striker on his backside. Expect plenty of colourful cards and colourful language. Over the course of three World Cups, Lukic has become a real leader, acting as vice-captain. He has a ferocious, never-say-die attitude which has made him a favourite with what little fans exist and foreigners who encounter him. Plays his football around his National Service placement.

Vedran Milosevic - Age: 19 - Team: Dinamo Kreceva
A lively wing-back in the traditional mould, who can play on both flanks and switch the play very easily. Two footed and capable of sensational strikes from outside the area, Vedran is one of the teams most exciting talents, someone who, along with Branimir Milic, could actually make a career out of playing football. Grew up in a privileged household in Vfana, and was able to watch Euran football live on television, which attributes to his skill and flare.

Kuzman Jovanovic - Age: 25 -Team: Vfana RKK
Despite being a debutant in the squad, he is automatically one of the oldest players to have ever played for Szavoda. Jovanovic, a trainee lawyer, entered Szavda football through a series of public trials which were held after the most recent Cup of Harmony. He impressed the coaching staff and was signed up to the one of the franchises in the Pro League and put on a training regime. As a defender, Jovanovic brings his skills from playing full back in rugby to act as a vigilant sweeper, with decent speed and tackling ability. Boundless energy makes him a constant presence at the back.

Vlastimir Markovic - Age: 18 - Team: FK01 Nevograd
A centre back who can also play on the left or the right, or in midfield, Markovic plays with high levels of energy and has good dribbling skills, which means he often likes to play the ball out of defence as opposed to hoofing the ball up the pitch, which is the traditional tactic of the team.

Nenad Nikolic - Age: 23 - Team: WFKV
A natural leader at the back, with a good brain on his shoulders. He is good at reading match situations, and often has to lead the defence in set pieces and the like. Reluctant to get off his feet, Nenad relies more on non-contact methods to win the ball off of opponents and keep it from them.

Midfielders

Branimir Milic - Age: 23 - Team: Ulsa Image
The only actually decent player in the squad, and the captain of the squad. Blessed with immense speed and wonderful close ball control, Branimir loves nothing more than to pick up the ball in the midfield and drive into the opposition penalty area. Long range shooting and vision are two more important arrows in his quiver, but he does not shirk on his defensive responsibilities, despite being a rather diminutive 5ft 7", and comes back for corners and to defend free-kicks. Milic is the beating heart of the otherwise static Szavoda team - always moving and running, trying to find space for himself and for others, whilst both on and off the ball. Following the Baptism of Fire, he was picked up by Euran Third Division club Moors. Showing more and more that he is a top-quality operator, but has problems executing his skills without able support from his less talented team-mates. Before WC73, he was signed by Euran Gold League club Ulsa, somewhat of a coup considering his background, and will look to make waves on the biggest stage in Eura.

Pero Milovanovic - Age: 19 - Team: Severazlos Company
A static distributor of the ball, Milovanovic sits in front of the back four and passes the ball out from about a 10 yard box in which he operates. Defensively astute, standing at 6ft 4", he plays often as a fifth defender by slotting in between the two central defenders. A decent attacking threat from set-pieces, too.

Srecko Brekovic - Age: 22 - Team: WFKV
A central midfield play-maker previously unseen in Szavda colours. At 6ft 3", he is a formidable presence in the middle of the park, and has exceptional passing ability, both on the ground and over the top. He leads the counter-attacks with a notable turn of pace and good footwork, and as a result, he likes to get forward and create goals. He is being touted as the next Milic, despite only there being a year between the two, and he reflects the captain in many ways with his movement and creativity on the ball.

Nemanja Radic - Age: 20 - Team: Kreceva SK19
An apprentice electrician, although how much work or training he is doing is questionable. Another in the mould of the young, energetic player who doesn't have much of a clue of the technical side of the game. Plays a central midfielder, but tends to rove all over the pitch, mostly following the ball with hot-headed enthusiasm. Possesses decent pace as well.

Isijia Jovanovic - Age: 22 - Team: Vfana RKK
Varies between magic and ordinary, often serving up healthy portions of both during the span of a 90 minute game. He can get the ball at his feet and within seconds be running rings around opposition defenders, but then only minutes later he can slice a simple pass into no-man's land for an opposition player to run onto and score.

Domenic Marsejevic - Age: 23 - Team: Severazlos Company
Your no-nonsense, hard-hitting central midfielder who lacks the glamour and guile of players like Milic and Jovanovic, but has a canny knowledge of the game and can get himself in good positions both in attack and defence. Chips in with the odd assist and goal as well, which comes in handy. He has become a real midfield leader, although he has been hampered by injury in recent months.

Stefan Petrovic - Age: 21 - Team: FK01 Nevograd
Young and full of energy, he always wants to be on the ball and to unfurl his various tricks which he has learned off of Branimir Milic. Sometimes they come off, which looks nice, but most of the time he's left chasing after an opposition defender who's stolen the ball off of him, which has made him quite fast and strong.

Ljuban Zoric - Age: 25 - Team: Dinamo Kreceva
Lived overseas for the majority of his life, he experienced football first hand, even playing youth grade football until he upped sticks and returned to the Glorious Motherland. He is a rare breed of midfielder who strives to get forward and score goals, and specialises in the spectacular. His powering runs and cannon-like shooting are something to be watched out for.

Javor Ilic - Age: 19 - Team: Union Kadlec
A sprightly attacking midfielder with quick feet and and good eye for goal. Operates well behind the two front men as a good distributor of the ball, known for his cutting through balls which split the defence and allow Nikazic and co. to nip in behind. Takes free-kicks from around the box and corners on the left hand side. Second penalty taker after Milic.

Strikers

Mijo Nikazic - Age: 21 - Team: Union Kadlec
The pinpoint of Szavoda's counter-attacking philosophy, Nikazic is small and very, very fast. He can go from a standing start to full pace in a matter of seconds, which makes him absolutely lethal on the break. His size allows him to squeeze past defenders in the box and he has shot placement to match any international striker. A real talent in a side that lacks, well, talent.

Zar Mihailovic - Age: 26 - Team: Arsenal de Releinthi [ABANHFLEFT]
The living epitome of the word 'target-man' - he's big, strong and knows where the goal is. Outside the penalty area, he's about as effective as a chocolate tea-pot, but inside, he only needs a yard to beat the keeper. He acts as a good foil against the small Nikazic, and together two the make a decent strike partnership. Second Szavda player to player overseas, and has become better for it.

Graeme Stefanovic - Age: 32 - Team: Union Kreceva
His first name might give you an indication as to his roots. Graeme was born to a Szavda father and a Euran mother, and was raised in Bastion. He dabbled in semi-pro football in Eura, but stopped after he was hired by a mining company for a number of years in Szavoda, where he lived in Kreceva. He played recreationally amongst the Euran expat community, and entered the system during the public trials. He is a smart and able striker, able to extract space in the box and draw out defenders. His dream came true when at the Bastion Arena, he came on as a substitute and scored in front of the Euran fans for Szavoda.

Home Stadia: SzaTec Park, Vfana (21,000)
The World Cup Committee won't permit qualifiers to be played on what is effectively a field with some paint on it, so Szavoda have had to play their official home games at the rather soulless SzaTec park in Vfana Docks. It is originally a Rugby stadium, but several unmarked brown envelopes at the offices of the presiding club ensured that the ground will be free for all of Szavoda's home qualifiers.

Lot 37 (Official Capacity: 0)
Situated in a run-down industrial park on the outskirts of Vfana in southern Szavoda, Lot 37 is just a patch of scrubland with grass laid down in patches and white lines hastily painted on. There are no seats, so opposition fans, should they come, are advised to bring their own seating. A retractable stand seating 400 was ordered from Eura, but it never turned up. Whilst it is the spiritual home of Szavda football NO GAMES WILL BE PLAYED HERE.

Part 1

The Dam wasn't really a dam. It was just called that. Yes, it serves some of the purposes that a dam does - it keeps something out of another thing. But this dam was far different from ordinary dams. This one, to start, was horizontal, and it did not keep water out. It kept people out. The dam was 20 feet thick and made of Po'roll'um, a rare and incredibly strong metal that is Ortol'a's main export. It ran over the entire city-state, constantly five feet above sea level. The flatness, and small size, of Ortol'a allowed for such a dam. It was an amazing feat of technology. - a gigantic bridge covering a country. Above the bridge was prosperity and power. Below the bridge was poverty, unspeakable tragedy. It may have been technologically brilliant, but not so morally.

Li'o had never in his life been less than a thousand feet above sea level. His people were very well adjusted to altitude, and didn't need much oxygen. Now he was about to go to sea level. It was uncomfortable. The air was thicker here. There were mosquitoes - he'd only heard of them in folk tales, quite liked them actually. One was named... what was it, Pe'ro? Something like that. He had saved the animal kingdom, Pe'ro. Li'o had a very sheltered view of mosquitoes back when he liked folk tales. Now, dealing with the real ones, he didn't like them. They would bite you and leave most uncomfortable marks. Li'o thought that maybe mosquitos weren't the only thing that were treated differently in stories as opposed to real life.

It was also very damp. All of this left Li'o with a very uneasy feeling in his stomach. He knew what was below the dam. He didn't need to see it for himself. But initiation was initiation. And Li'o had made the choice to join the ACRTO. That's Arj Cit'is Ran'a'e Tepp Ortol'a for you. This was the right thing to do. Li'o had to go through with it. And besides, there was no time to change him mind. The doors beneath him opened, and Li'o fell the 25 feet into the darkness.

Li'o expected it to hurt, but it really didn't. Thank God for small miracles, he solemnly thought. It was very muddy and wet. Li'o had buried himself several feet deep in the mud. His white pants were rendered unusable. There was mud in his mouth. Not everything was a miracle, small or not. Li'o stood up and immediately his it head on the pollum roof. He lurched forward in response, and proceeded to hit his head again, this time on a pillar. Now he just lay down, nearly having given up. He started sliding. Li'o was completely sure what was happening at first, given that his eyes hadn't completed adjusted to the dim light yet. But he realized that he was sliding downhill. Now he was underwater. And as soon as he came to this realization, Li'o slammed into a wall.

If this had been a rom-com, maybe the adorably clumsy Li'o would have found his soul mate. But this wasn't a rom-com. This was life, and Li'o understood that for many, life is horrific. Far from a rom-com. Li'o wipe the mud off of his watch. Squinting, he identified the time, and calculated that he had 23 hours and 58 minutes left in this place. To think that many had spent their entire lives here.

Li'o sat on the ground, leaning against the wall, for the next 10 minutes. It was very comfortable - he immersed nearly completely in warm water. Li'o wondered if he could just sit there for the whole time, avoid suffering as much as possible. But then Li'o wondered why there was a wall, and curiosity got the best of him.
He looked over. He hadn't seen at first, as his eyes hadn't adjusted, but there was a lot going on beyond the wall. Li'o was on the edge of a large pit, separated from falling twenty. maybe thirty feet only by this diminutive wall. In the pit, Li'o got his first sight of the "Orts". They were peculiar looking people, even more so than he had imagined, very short and with large ears and big potbellies. All were completed covered in dirt.

A bell rang form above. Everyone stopped what they were doing and rushed towards one area of the pit. Soon after, water rushed through chutes into a dry-mud tank. A wet, grainy substance followed, entering a different tank. Everyone rushed around and sipped the water and ate the food. Pretty soon it was all gone. So this is the below-area. Li'o meant to think that thought. Instead he spoke it. Everyone heard - those large ears must have had something to do with it. One of the taller ones - at least a foot shorter than Li'o - spoke:

"Welcome to the below-area. You are fighting the good fight. We hope you enjoy your stay."

After the election concluded and Futurum and Feministvs Sanctvsterra formed a grand coalition, they discovered the dire fiscal straits that the King's Government and Church of Saintland had found themselves in. King Petrus XX had been going to great lengths to hide the fact that his treasury was nearly empty. Once aflush in over a million Denarii, the Treasury now had less than 10,000 remaining. The Church had been hit even harder. On the very day when Parliament convened for the first time in the history of the nation, the Church ran out of money as its operating costs had become well in excess of the money that it was taking in through tithes.

Normally, institutions in such dire straits would take loans from Acedonian bankers at exorbitant interest rates. However, doing so would be a violation of the Church's longstanding ban on usury, a ban which was supported by hard-liners, reformers and Feministvs Sanctvsterra alike. There simply was no way that the current level of government spending or Church spending could be maintained. Parliament began deliberating regarding measures that could be taken to relieve the Government's dire financial situation.

As Parliament was discussing this situation, Consul Kaleb O'Reilly of the Free Republics announced that he was imposing a trade embargo on all the nations of the multiverse, effective immediately. No Republican corporation would be permitted to operate abroad, hire foreigners or sell goods in foreign markets nor would any Republican be permitted to import goods made outside of the Free Republics. This further devastated the Sanctii economy, which was heavily dependent on large multi-national corporations based out of the Free Republics. Rather than face seizure of their assets by the Republican government, these companies quickly left Saintland, leaving the country without most of its employers and even without many vital services.

While Feministvs Sanctvsterra had been offering to donate some of their funds locked away in Acedonian bank accounts to the King's Government in exchange for the adoption of some of their preferred pro-women reforms, the crisis changed matters quickly. Royal Electric's wind turbines and solar panels that produced the Kingdom's electricity were now left unattended and few people had the expertise to attend them. Royal ISP's networks, which were dependent upon RepublicSoft's infrastructure, suddenly didn't work. The infrastructure of Saintland was crumbling, thanks to the Republican policy of isolation and both the King's Government and the Church were short on funds.

King Petrus XX called Andreas Tuccius and Censorina Polus, the leaders of the two Coalition parties, to the Royal Palace to discuss the ongoing crisis. The very first thing they agreed upon was to cut the international sports budget, due to the enormous travel expense involved, which could not be recouped through ticket sales. For now on, Feministvs Sanctvsterra would have to pay for participation in these tournaments out of their own funds, so that the Government's funds could be put to better use but the proceeds from ticket sales for home games would go into the Royal Treasury, not Feministvs Sanctvsterra's bank account.

As Sanctii leadership discussed the situation, they came to the conclusion that they had a sufficient population to maintain their own infrastructure and that the way to fill in the gaps temporarily involved the conscription of all of the unemployed young men of the Kingdom into the Royal Army and the use of unpaid forced labor by high school students where necessary. Despite the fact that the government was bankrupt, having sent most of the Kingdom's fortune overseas, they still had the expertise and the resources within their Kingdom to rebuild the economy, most of which was government-run. Feministvs Sanctvsterra, as it turned out, were especially eager to conscript unemployed young men into the Army at the same time that they pushed for laws to permit the employment of women and to make it easier to start businesses. They saw the crisis as an opportunity to shift economic power within Saintland from men to women and Futurum did not object.

Technically, there was still a third party in the Parliament, which was the opposition party Veritas. However, neither ruling party wanted anything to do with that party, which was run by traitors, usurpers and others who had been responsible for putting the Kingdom into the dire straits that it was in. Veritas still wanted to restore the hard-liners to power and reverse progress, which was categorically rejected by both Coalition parties. On the urging of Censorina Polus and Feministvs Sanctvsterra, nobody in Futurum would even talk to Veritas leadership or consider any of their ideas. Instead, the Coalition would govern through consensus, amongst themselves, and work to address the crisis while also moving Saintland forward.

As the Church and Government were short on funds, they had to cut the wages of all of their employees by 50%. Normally, this would have led to their employees fleeing to private employment, but Feministvs Sanctvsterra proposed a solution to that problem, which was passed into law. Any essential employee of the King's Government who quit his job was to be conscripted into the Royal Army and stationed at the same job, with his pay reduced to the subsistence levels that were becoming the new standard for conscripts. Essential workers were also prohibited from leaving the Kingdom. Notably, the pay of Customs officers was not reduced, so they were extremely motivated to control the border and prevent a brain drain. The Royal Police were also, conveniently, exempted from the pay cut. Parliament also passed a number of tax increases and new taxes, to raise more revenue.

By the time the Copa Rushmori was about to start, Saintland had started to move toward a new equilibrium and had somehow managed to preserve most government services while putting an end to the government's huge losses. Entry into the CR was an easy decision for Feministvs Sanctvsterra, as it would be a good tune-up tournament before the World Cup and a chance to potentially go toe-to-toe with the last 2 World Cup champions. The fact that the entire tournament would be held in a single nation within Rushmore was, undoubtedly, another factor that encouraged Sanctii participation. It simply wouldn't put a major dent into Feministvs Sanctvsterra's coffers to participate, so they decided to enter...

ICELFA Roster for Copa Rushmori XXIII

Demonym: Eastfielder

Eastfield Lodge is a pretty glorious nation, somewhat situated in Northern Rushmore - in reality, there's a very small island (acting as a transport hub) which hosts a portal linking the NSverse to a small bubble universe, wherein the rest of the Imperial Commonwealth is located (barring a couple of nations, but they’re linked up in other ways). The IC part describes the fact that there are several empires contained within one superstructure – divisions which are somewhat reflected in the convoluted league structure.

Those of you who know this nation well however will wonder what has happened to the Whoniverse (the universe of Doctor Who, the TV programme). Don’t worry, I will (hopefully) RP what went on. To those who don’t know, this nation used be in the NSverse, but due to the acts of a lone madman from The Holy Empire (mad, or pitiful, the legends are a bit shaky), Eastfield Lodge almost vanished from existence, leaving behind a small island (now in Rushmore), attached to a portal connecting here to the Whoniverse. Things happened, the portal became unstable, and we had to form a bubble universe, and as a result, the resulting temporal shockwave both wiped out all electronic records, and did some weird stuff to people’s ages (hence why some names in the team may seem recognisable).

Anyways, because of the initial portal, whilst humans are the overwhelming majority of the populace here, don't be surprised to find several other races and much advanced technology here. Some more historical information can be found here, in lieu of a factbook (NB: a lot of the information there is inaccurate though, TG me for clarification).

Back to the nation itself, Eastfield Lodge is probably the best place to live in the entirety of Rushmore, according to the WA at any rate. Amongst the accolades heaped upon are: Most Compassionate Citizens, Most Beautiful Environments, Happiest Citizens, Most Dedicated Public Healthcare, Healthiest Citizens, Least Corrupt Government, Longest Average Lifespan, Lowest Crime Rates, Nicest Citizens, Largest Public Transportation Department, Safest, Smartest Citizens, Most Popular Tourist Destinations, Best Weather and Largest Welfare Programs. Also of note is the fact that, in a region containing Saintland, Eastfield Lodge is the Most Devout nation, with Islam being the national religion, and that we have the Highest Police Ratios, so do not be alarmed by the sheer number of police officers.

Lodger City Memorial Stadium
Location: New Lodger City
Capacity: 150,000
Description: The home of Eastfielder football, the stadium was built on the ruins of the old capital of Eastfield Lodge, Lodger City, which was flattened in a double disaster (severe floods from dams bursting and an explosion from an unknown source, killing much of the population of the city and rendering the city useless. Administrative functions were transferred over to Lodgertia, the city began to be rebuilt, and it was decided that this stadium would be one of the monuments erected in place. The inside walls contains inscriptions of the names of all the dead – just under 9 million. The stadium used to play host to the two classic giants of EL football – RGS Athletic and VLC FC - until both had their new stadiums finished; it is now only used for internationals and cup matches.

Parliament Stadium
Location: Lodgertia
Capacity: 80,000
Description: Formerly the second largest stadium in Eastfield Lodge (until King Iqbal II and Vorgan Park were completed), behind the Memorial Stadium in New Lodger City, it was built in the centre of Lodgertia, the capital of Eastfield Lodge, and the Imperial Commonwealth. It was named due to the fact that the Parliament is based just a few hundred metres down the road; in fact, the original stadium was actually joined to the Parliament building, as an area where MPs could watch or even engage in sport with the public, as well as being a designated protest site. However, with Lodgertia becoming more built up, it was decided that the stadium needed to be built up as well. It is home to Lodgertia United and Lodgertia City alongside being temporary hosts of RGS Athletic and VLC FC (when Lodger City was being rebuilt), and in the past has hosted several international matches, including the final of SBCC 27 and a group in both stages of Market Cup 4.

Manager: Lowell Brown
Age: 53. Manager of Seaton Town, Brown is known in Eastfield Lodge for being one of the fairest and impartial managers in the top flight - if his team were lucky with a decision, he will not claim otherwise. Prior to being selected as National Team managed, he had managed on the international scene previously, being put in charge of both the men’s and women’s Olympic football teams, featuring most of the players selected for the qualifying campaign.
Coach: Shabeen Ahmad III
Age: 58. He went down in Eastfield Lodge history as having scored an absurd 201 goals in 215 appearances for the EL national team (records are still being compiled, but he looks likely to be the human player with the highest tally). Still an inspiration to everyone and even at this age his skill is noticeable, even if his agility has waned. He has been the main offensive coach for several World Cups now.

Formation: 4-1-2-3
Image

The formation is a weird variant on the classic basic 4-3-3. Here, there is the one holding midfielder, and the other two are pushed up to play just off the ST as attacking midfielders, whilst the WFs are also slightly tucked in from a usual position. This allows them more of an equal choice of either cutting in or going out wide for the cross, which may be met by the other winger or one of the midfielders. The front five can drift to other positions at any time, just to keep defences on their toes. Defensively, the AMs will drop back and slightly out wide or into the middle as required, and are decently proficient at dispossessing the ball and using it well. The DM is mainly there to guard the defence, and is adept at picking out a pass (short or long), and helping to dictate plays. The CBs are as standard, but the FBs are given the freedom to roam forwards as far as they can get away with, and more often than will get involved in attacking plays, with some crosses from both deep and closer in.
In terms of goal scoring, the ST will get the bulk of the goals, with good contributions from both the AMs and the WFs as well. The WFs will get most of the assists, followed closely by the AMs, then the ST and DM.

If I do RP, I will include the line-up for the next match in my RP post, along with any suspensions/injuries. If there is no line-up, look through my posts and check for current suspensions/injuries, but otherwise it’s fine. Also, if you're RP'ing any part of my match, please use the full name Eastfield Lodge at least once, it helps me find the RP.

NB: As the people of EL are extremely compassionate, and very civilised (despite what you may say about the religion), it would be uncharacteristic for the coaches/players to lose their temper, dive deliberately (jumping out of the way of bad tackles and falling awkwardly doesn't count), to be sent to the stands (if the ref is clearly very biased however...), spit, argue with the ref or fight. Players will also tend to inform the referee about mistakes/clarifications in judgement regarding throw-ins, fouls given but with no contact and goal kicks/corner kicks (plus other bouts of honesty - up to you).

Electrum Football is proud to present the...

Electrumite National Football Team

Introduction
It will be the last official tournament before some new roster changes affect the team. In saying that though, last cycle was their true breakout performance, with Electrumites getting excited about the prospect of their World Cup chances, as the National Team for the first time ever, qualified into the World Cup. Although their performance was not as perfect as they liked, they performed admirably in the conditions and managed to come third in the group, missing out in going to the Round of 16 by just a single point. Nonetheless, they will be celebrating that performance with a new kit, designed by Red Blackiland.

Executive Board
The coaching team has undergone an expansion. Despite there being new players, Electrum Football has decided to keep the old management team from before, given their recent performances in the group stage of WC70 qualification and their breakout performance in the most recent Copa Rushmori held in Polar Islandstates. This team is known as the Executive Board and are in charge of ensuring the team has a successful performance this time round, as well as managing the ongoing development programs. Coach Wilkinson retired at the end of the Cup of Harmony, seeing through Electrum's rise in the rankings. Daniel Brunet was appointed in the Cup of Harmony as his replacement, opting for a more defensive playstyle.

Steve Thompson, Eura’s manager, had little to say to his team as they kicked off the Copa Rushmori. He simply walked into the dressing room, stared at them, and said one thing. ‘You are all good enough. Here is the proof.’ He threw a newspaper down onto the floor.

Image

Eura crowned world champions for second time after hard fought final
Voodoo broken as Thompson’s side hailed for “valiant” victory over Pasarga
Simon Banning reports from Montreal, Royal Kingdom of Quebec

There are a number of newspaper headlines today apart from our own that are worth giving a look. My personal favourite is the Harther Herald’s blunt, alliteration-laden celebration, “TOMMO’S TEAM TURN UP TOP TRUMPS!” However, for the less curious types, they all confirm pretty much the same joyous news. Eura have won the World Cup for the second time after a 1-0 victory over Pasarga, breaking a string of defeats against our recent Rushmori rivals and making Eura officially the most successful Rushmore nation in World Cup history – winners of two out of four finals. After Eura’s longest ever perfect streak of wins was broken by their 90 minute stalemate in the semi-final against San Jose Guayabal, they came into the finals as slight underdogs after Pasarga thumped Vilita in the semi-finals. It now appears that beating Vilita in the semi-finals is a curse, because when Eura took that route last time, they lost to Pasarga, but now the tables have turned. In a narrowly contested but ultimately decisive encounter in Montreal’s awkwardly named stadium, Eura triumphed in the greatest show on earth for the second time of their history, and their success is fully deserved.

The period building up to this game attracted the usual excitement and speculation that World Cup finals generate. Op-ed pieces and commentaries from around the multiverse weighed up the two sides who had made it to the final. Pasarga were still the side that stormed to the last World Cup and held off an equally rampaging Eura, but had suffered from one or two upsets and injuries. On the other hand Eura had no injury problems and were in exceptional form, having won all of their games in this campaign within 90 minutes, apart from the semi-final, making it their most successful campaign. However they were undermined by a terrible recent record against Pasarga that had already achieved the status of one of international football’s most compelling jinxes. After defeats at the penultimate and final hurdles in both the Copa Rushmori and World Cup, Eura were travelling to this final with a furious determination to avoid another defeat. There was little fatigue to speak of among the team with the possible exceptions of John Spartan and Weylon Churchilli, and what’s more the defensive mistakes that had cost Eura dearly in the past had been eradicated in recent attacking displays, including seven and six goal hauls against Free Republics and Farfadillis respectively.

The 87,880 seat ‘Samseongoloondongjang’ stadium in Montreal, the main stadium of co-hosts Royal Kingdom of Quebec, was a wonderful venue for this match. Maybe it is not quite as iconic as the arena in Fligsive where Eura beat Polar Islandstates, but everyone who attended this match will never forget it. They packed out every corner of the ground to watch the world’s two best teams compete. The atmosphere was assisted by the weather as much as the crowd itself, with little in the way of inclement conditions to drag both teams down into a gritty long ball game. Instead the weather was very mild, with a slight chilly breeze sweeping across the pitch as the night closed in. Pasarga were ready early at the behest of their coach Jullian van Setten, who had been cool and collected in dismissing press speculation during the week over the fitness of key player, while appearing to lend a tiny bit of credence to that speculation with early one on one warmups for two players. Goalkeeper Bognár Lukacs was one of those singled out for extra work, ensuring that he was passed fit to start in the final ahead of Takácz Endre, the latter missing out again despite excellent club form. The rest of the Pasarga lineup was the standard fare, a 4-2-2-2 led by Dominik Mauer and Inèz van Stiphout, with midfield playmaker and Spartangrad maestro Császár Mór just about passing a late fitness test to start.

Steve Thompson had experienced his own speculation to deal with, after claims in the international press that Eura’s coach and players had sought advice on the mental aspect of the game due to their bad experiences in recent finals. Whether or not this was true, Thompson was certainly not lacking confidence in his players to deliver. Eura went with the same full strength starting eleven, except with Charles Hunter starting ahead of Lewis Hughes, which took on San Jose Guayabal in the semi-final. The one change made was tactical, as Hunter has been in phenomenal form and was also deemed necessary to give Eura an edge in central midfield. Eura aimed to dominate in the area where their traditional strength lay, but had betrayed them against Pasarga previously, the midfield. It wasn’t a surprising move, this is something that many pundits and analysts have been saying for a while. Now the talk was over, and Eura would have to prove on the pitch that they had overcome their mental barrier, that there were champions in this team other than Sinclair and Spartan. The national anthems were sung, Eura won the toss and decided to kick off, and after all the buildup and hype, the 73rd World Cup final was now under way.

PRAVENNA
Preferred Formation:
4-1-4-1
Style Modifier: -2
Playstyle: Defensive, counter-attacking side, very much aware of their status as underdogs.
Kit Supplier: Cloaker
Captain: Augustine Rouphos
Nickname: The Lions

Pravenna is a sun-blazed rock in the middle of nowhere, vaguely in Rushmori waters. It is a benevolent dictatorship - or, at least, young General Augustine Mitrosaridis is more concerned with golden statues of himself and various glamour projects than oppressing the common folk. The latest project has been the restoration of a football association wracked with corruption, incompetence and neglect, and somehow - despite the refusal of both UICA and the WCC to have anything to do with them - has actually started to almost approach respectability.

Tactics
Image
First-choice lineup.
Defence is the priority for Pravenna, who generally expect to be outplayed and aim to keep tight at the back and hit hard on the counterattack. They don't have the players to overextend either on the pitch or in the roster. Their best angle of attack is down the wings, especially the left where Postecoglou and Constantinou make for a good combination with Michaels an obliging, if streaky, target man.

Staff
Manager: Constantine Katsaros
Asst. Manager: Michalis Thanatos

Constantine Katsaros has babysat Pravenna's entire football program for years and he's just a little tired of it - this is his last cycle in charge of the national team. He's brought stability, security and respectability to the Lions, and was probably the right man at the right time for them.

Goalkeepers
1 - GK - Perseus Theoklitos - Age 26 - Crawford City FC (COS)
12 - GK - Evangelos Tsakiris - Age 30 - Morningstar (NPH)
20 - GK - Patroklos Sanna - Age 21 - Kalisteri (PRV)

Easily the best goalkeeper in the squad, Theoklitos has held a regular starting place with Crawford for a while. Tsakiris is unlikely to see the field, playing as he does in the Nepharim third-tier. At least now, for the first time in his career, he is consistently starting. Young Sanna, meanwhile, has been promising in the national league and might be ready for a transfer overseas sooner rather than later.

Defenders
2 - RB - Penelope Karassalidis - Age 28 - Brookford Otters (BRE)
3 - LB - Demetrios Constantinou - Age 27 - Stalliongrad (EQS)
5 - CB - Augustine Rouphos - Age 29 - Saint Alexander (BRE, c)
6 - CB - Claire Demetrios - Age 25 - Rochford (NPH)
13 - CB - Stern Katsalidis - Age 32 - Augustinople Saints (PRV)
16 - LB - Iliad Tsipras - Age 22 - AFC Shale (NPH)
17 - RB - Spyridon Gekas - Age 24 - Apostilene (PRV)
21 - CB - Thanasis Xanthopoulos - Age 22 - Amici Llano (SAN)

Karassalidis and Tsipras are canny and redoubtable defensive fullbacks, though they can press forward when the time is right. Rouphos and Demetrios, who both played in Felix for a few years and have both been sweepers at stages of their careers, will fight it out to partner the captain in defence, with Katsalidis as redoubtable and reliable as ever. Constantinou is the more attacking option out at leftback and can be redeployed at winger if needed to. Xanthopoulos, meanwhile, is pressing to start some years in the future as well. The same cannot be said for Gekas, who exists purely to fill out the roster.

Midfielders
4 - DM - Niko Karachanis - Age 24 - Aspida Xanthikos (PRV)
7 - RM - Vasilis Panagakos - Age 27 - FC Matovallanen (SEM)
8 - CM - Dorcas Merochite - Age 29 - Ritter Town (NPH)
11 - LM - Kostas Postecoglou - Age 27 - Iron City (NPH)
15 - CM - Calisto Matraxis - Age 29 - Indigo Lygers (ZEN)
18 - LM - Angelos Souvanis - Age 26 - Augustinople Saints (PRV)
19 - DM - Mihail Stavros - Age 23 - Boston United (NSI)
22 - CM - Maria Michelakis - Age 22 - Amy City (NSI)
23 - RM - Oedipus Spiros - Age 25 - Karaikos (PRV)

The weakness of the side. Merochite and Matraxis are a limited but industrious central midfield while Stavros marshals everything through force of violence. Postacoglou out on the left is a converted winger with plenty of bite but Panagakos is more conventional, less exciting and less effective. There are no effective backup wingers, but Karachanis and Michelakis will be capable of doing their part if called upon.

Forwards
9 - ST - Theo Michaels - Age 29 - Evenfar FC (PAS)
10 - ST - Hyacinth Metaxas - Age 21 - Augustinople Saints (PRV)
14 - ST - Theseus Barbarouses - Age 26 - Upper Skyforce (USI)

Ridiculously-variable striker Michaels becomes the striker of choice after a journeyman career - Evenfar is his sixth club in four different countries. He's pretty quick and his finishing is, well, dependant on the phase of the moon. He's never had a merely average season, but he normally does well for his country. Plan B Barbarouses is a towering battering ram of a centre-forward, formerly of Project +90 Nephara - usually thrown on in a 4-4-2 if Pravenna have to chase the game. Metaxas, the only one of the three born in Pravenna, outshines them both in terms of potential, and was the top scorer of the domestic league last season through a lethal left foot, buckets of pace and genuine determination marking her out in a league full of disinterested mercenaries.
