CORPS HISTORY:

The Bevrore Squadron Drum & Bugle Corps was a founding member of the Xhayparia League of Marching Performance (XLMP), and has been one of the top 10 corps for the Outer-Sonnel Drum Corps Association (OSDCA), winning 2 times from the past 15 annual competitions. Founded in Bevrore Forest, Xhayparia, Sonnel, it's considered the most impactful corps from Xhayparia.

The Corps is named for their hometown, as well as to respect the Lord Lieutenant of Xhayparia.

Bevrore Squadron is famous for their Hornline, but their Colour Guard, are mediocre in comparison. This hasn't stopped them from winning before, however.

Program

ABOVE & BEYOND

Bevrore Squadron's program is entitled "Above & Beyond". This show is about the sky, and all of the infinite potential it has.

The preshow involves the guard in bird costumes, and the music is more primal, with heavy drum beats and loud impacts

Movement One showcases early history of the air and flight within Xhayparia

Movement Two is recounting Xhayparia's first successful spacecraft, as it takes to the stars

Movement Three is a deep space adventure-esque type music, as the spacecraft enters an asteroid field

The finale is the discovery of a new planet, that begins anew.

Drill is designed by renowned designer Ghredger and Guard work was created by the Fienn Administration.

Corp History

The Drawk Corps is an organization as old as the nation itself. It was originally formed by Iarocav at a young age, before he was in the running to become the leader of Drawkland. Its original purpose was to be an organization of people, like a club or sorts, or just a general non-miltant Corps of people with similar interests. At first, with Iarocav's hand, it began as a set of businesses performing various services. Iarocav wanted to use it as a model for all of Drawkland, a self-sufficient and harmonious community. Years down the road, when bugling, drumming, and general musical skill became revered and commonplace, the Drawk Corps formed the Drawk Corps Drum Corps, out of their musically-inclined members.

They were part of the "Big 5," or the first 5 major drum corps in Drawkland. The first and most predominant corps, of course, were the Sadeg Spartans, but for a long time in the early history, the Spartans and Drawk Corps were friendly rivals, with the Spartans taking the 1st, 4th, 5th, and 8th Drawkland Drum Corps Championships, and the Drawk Corps taking the 2nd, 3rd, 7th, and 10th. The Drawk Corps is easily considered Drawkland's best, if not at least one of the best.

Their General Effect is a powerhouse on both fronts, however, their other captions are rather mediocre, besides Percussion, which is rather above average, and their Colorguard, which is rather ... "trash," as it's described by rival Corps.

Program

"Prodigal" is the program selected by the Drawk Corps Drum Corps to be performed at this competition and the rest of this season. The entire composition is written by Garand Idris, a Drawkian composer, based on several songs and symphonies by long-past Drawkian composers. {OOC: Written by Aaron Guidry, mainly based on Dvorak's "From the New World." Link to the song to come after prelims results}

The story itself is about a man who has a wonderful, but somewhat sour life at home. The preshow describes his home life. Part 1 evolves out of the various effects and noise played in the preshow. Part 2 then describes the man as he's put through various trials and tests out in the world, away from home. The man is slightly delusional, it seems, and he believes he's heading somewhere well and better than home, but after failing a test, he's lost and hopeless. He meets a stranger while lost who points him in the right direction, and he resolves to come home, proclaiming this in Part 3. Part 4 shows the man finally coming back home, and being happier than ever.

Nation: People's Republic of Alphatheta
Corp: Uostas Squadra
Uniform: Dress greens

Corp History: While formal competition isn't well-known in Alphatheta, the armed forces have a long history of fairly proficient corps. The corps have traditionally been made up of new recruits who have begun their service before the traditional age of joining. Regional corps often send their best and most talented to the largest military bases in the nation's coastal region, located just outside of Uostas.

Although none of the corps are known for their proficiency with music, the colorguard is known regionally for precision performances and the percussion for being loud.

Program: “Predstavleniye Dódeka”

Program Details: Uostas Squadra has selected its twelfth program for performance. It was written in celebration of the current Emperor's tenth year in power by Alphathetan import Aristophanes Buchholz. Although little is known about the meaning behind the piece apart from general festivity, the officer in charge of this particular execution, Sevastyan Kucera, has chosen to interpret the piece as particularly highlighting the nation's diverse cultural heritage.

The Drawk Corps Drum Corps was all spread out over the Visitor's Quarter, a room in the stadium where the corps were staying.

They were all in their own mini-cliques, the 150 members and 50-odd staff were off towards the tables where food was being served on folding tables. The drumline was off against a wall sitting and standing in a clump of chairs. Each section of the brass were in assorted pow-wows on the floor, and the pit/front ensemble were in a line against the far wall. The colorguard, of course, was in a huge group on the floor, chattering and doing hair.

It was a dull roar in the tall-ceiling room. All the members were just blowing off steam and relaxing after the competition.

And then, the drum majors threw open the doors. The corps fell silent and turned to the quintet of leaders. The head drum major, Jackson Navis, beckoned for the corps to group around them as he and the others removed their shakos. They were still in uniform, while the rest of the corps were simply in their under-bibs.

As the corps' members gathered, sitting or squatting in front of the majors, Navis ceremoniously opened the manilla envelope and removed the paper contents. The corps had finished gathering and sat, listening.
"Here are the results," Navis called.
"8th, Bevrore. 7th, Uostas."
He paused for a moment to take a breath. Most of the corps' veterans knew what was next.
"6th ... Drawk Corps."
Sounds of surprise and veiled outrage rippled through the crowd of people.
"Then it's the Harps, Bards, Cassel, Scragges End, and The Wind of Change. Look guys, we're in a big hole. Our finals draw is 4th, and we're second before the Harps going into the break. We took NO captions, had the worst brass, and almost the worst Visual GE, next to Uostas. Thank the lord our Percussion and our Music GE captions saved us from last place," the head major analyzed. More murmurs surfaced from the members.
"You need to focus in finals. Honestly, the prelims performance seemed sort of lackluster. We NEED to get cleaner, both visually, and musically, especially for the brass. We have so much potential, especially more than some of these cut-rate corps from wherever they're from. Come on guys, you know what to do. Get cracking."
And with that, the group disbanded, and they all split up into their sections again. Most of the brass collected their mouthpieces and started on their tongueing and buzzing drills. The percussionists got their sticks and mallets and did warmup drills on their laps and the ground. The colorguard took out their practice flags and weapons and sound for their lives. The drum majors went over music theory and other such items, hoping to impart knowledge to the corps to keep them in the game.

Prodigal, a link to play the show is at the bottom of the page. There's obviously no woodwinds in drum corps, so parts played by flute, clarinet, or saxophone, were either omitted or played on a sound-synthed trumpet.

The Bevrore Squadron awaited the results from Prelims

Despite having the homecourt advantage, they managed to get next to last place.

The Drum Major, Reyn, read the results to the corps, as groans of disappointment and tears ran down the band and guard's faces.

"Time to make up, do this for the director, y'all. He's worked too hard for us to lose to a new guy and a few newer corps. Bring it in, guys."

The entire corps of 117 gathered in a pile, as the Drum Major counted down in a rapid fashion, "ONE TWO THREE!"

In unison, the corps shouted their signature holler, "HOORAH! B.F.S. GON' GET IT!"

Bevrore Squadron realised they're going second, which is a huge disadvantage, but continued with their heads high

It was time to evolve, to move

IMAA: Visual Proficiency
Xhay: Colour Guard

Wytropolis MSK+7 7:23pm - A record number of televisions in the People's Republic were tuned in to watch the preliminary round of the Xhay Marching League Premiere returns. Regional polls showed that the spike of viewership was largely a matter of curiosity and speculation.

The patria, of course, is no stranger to Uostas Squadra's performance. The corp is known throughout the nation as the presentation corp at nearly all honours ceremonies in the capital. Most viewers responding to polling expressed their high levels of satisfaction with Uostas Squadra's performance, although a large swath also reported general confusion with the other broadcast performances.

On the ground, the preliminary round was met with a much livelier reception. Uostas Squadra's PFC Aleksei Bartoš spoke with us during the break following the Ekhart Harps' performance and before the Alphathetan corp was set to perform.

"It isn't so much that it's a different level, I think," Bartoš explained in a rush. "It's more that it's a different attitude about the performance. Squadra is loud. That's-- the whole idea. Predstavleniye Dódeka is loud and it's intimidating and it's not a question of-- expression so much as something more visceral. And here, watching the first four performances? There's a real art to it. There's something more going on. It's not what we're about, maybe, but it's fascinating. And all of us, you know, we're glad to be learning while we're here and watching-- other ways people do things in other nations."

As predicted, Squadra's rendition of Predstavleniye Dódeka was as loud as ever; certainly not remarkably louder than usual. Various military sources in Steinstadt and Tyurderevnya did note, however, that the colour guard were articulating with much more focus on technical proficiency than in performance and drill outside of showings at Wytropolis. SGM Sibylle Aiello of Steinstadt Tvrđava spoke highly of the performance. "They really did us proud," Aiello reported in a brief phone interview. "I'm glad I made our corp out here watch, because it really was the sort of thing you want to see every single time, not just when the Emperor or the rest of the world is watching. [Squadra director SFC Zenais] Agrioli must be incredibly proud of her boys' work out there."

Aiello was hesitant to predict how Squadra would do in the final round, but told us to expect other corps to be kicked into international competition in the coming years.

"Once they see what the rest of the world is doing, they want to do it," Aiello told us with a laugh. "It's just like anything else. They see new drone tech? They want to try. They see other corps giving strong interpretation instead of just beating the hell out of a drum in time? They want to try too. So we'll see who gets sent up next year. It should be interesting."

After the preliminaries, Uostas Squadra stands seventh in the rankings. Word from the hill is that the Emperor is nevertheless pleased with the performance and intends to allow back corp members provided the team continues to maintain themselves above eighth place in the standings. At the time of printing, SFC Agrioli could not be reached for comment about the prospects of a homecoming.

The Winds of Change Blow in our Favor

This group came from the University of Jehenna and have been taking the show by storm with the visual analysis. In reality outside of that, they excelled at nothing but really didn't perform poorly at anything either. However, it was enough to set an IMAA record for total score at 91.9. The only area where they struggled to be anything more than middling was visual proficiency and that was a 7th best effort. A steady effort from a co-ed group from what may be the best squad in the world in reality but they're unremarkable at most things that don't involve analysis.

DRAWKLAND NATIONAL SPORTS NETWORK

HOLLY GARRISON: Hello again Drum Corps fans! This is Holly Garrison bringing you to Repdeyscha Stadium outside of chilly Moskau, Xhayparia, at the Xhay Marching Performance League Premiere. Corps from far and wide across the multiverse have come to present their shows, along with the hosting Moskau Vanguard, Dzetstad Goldcoats, and Dthe Old Heparia Calvary. Of course, they're only here for practice and to show off their skills. The real corps we came to see were judged and ranked, after preliminary performances concluded. So to help us, yet again, break down the scores for everyone, is ex-judge and Drum Corps superfan Davie Daniels. How are you tonight, Davie?

DAVIE DANIELS: It's friggen cold Holly. How are you?

GARRISON: Just as excited as ever! So, we have 5 new Corps being judged tonight, 4 of which have never been on the international scene before. The other 4 were present at the recent Drums of the Drawks debut. So, tell me about the lineup, Davie.

DANIELS: Well, there's certainly less corps than there were at Drums of the Drawks, but the fact that half of them are new is a good sign. So let's look at this in performance order. To kick us off we had The Winds of Change from the Serbian Empire. Next there were 3 Sonnelian Corps, The Casselian Regiment, Drawk Corps Drum Corps, and the Ekhart Harps, from Luminita, Drawkland, and Zlevecky. After the break came the Alphathetan Corps, the Uostas Squadra. Then came a returning Corps, Cosumar's Wealdheim Bards, followed by the Scragges End Sylbher Band, which is actually a brass band from Shytysle who took up marching for this competition. And to end the night was Xhayparia's own Bevrore Squadron.

GARRISON: It's always good to hear some new names. Anyway, it'd be great to hear what these guys and girls had to offer. Let's start at the beginning. How was The Winds of Change?

DANIELS: Holy crap. These new guys came in with a BANG. Their show, "Down at Gorky Park," was super impressive. Now, I wouldn't say it was very impactful as far as General Effect goes; even though it wasn't bad, it was sort of mediocre. But wow at their drill and choreography. Their Visual Analysis score shattered records. Nobody has ever seen that level of visual design. It was a very neat show. Now, it left some execution to be desired, a la their lackluster Visual Proficiency score, but both their Percussion and Brasslines were top-notch, close to records. Their guard wasn't half bad either. But together, it all added up to a nearly record-breaking score of 91.9, leaving them first in prelims.

GARRISON: Looks like they're CHANGING the game up here at the XMPL. So next came a recognizable uniform, The Casselian Regiment. What about them?

DANIELS: They've definitely improved since last we saw them at DotD. They've stuck with their show, "Fury," and boy have they upped the game. They didn't break any records besides their own, and didn't take any captions in prelims, but boy there were close on many fronts. Their Visual GE was super noticeable, the forms they made impacted the crowd hugely. Especially when they flooded onto the field in the beginning rather than just walking or marching out to their spots. That gave a huge plus. The thing with the Regiment is that they didn't break huge ground, but their scores were constant. Nothing dropped below a 8.6, and that just added up to put them in 3rd.

GARRISON: Once again, they're making some Corps below them FURIOUS. And next were your personal favorites, the Drawk Corps Drum Corps, correct?

DANIELS: Yes, my hometown Corps ... ah, it just seemed like they didn't show up today. Their Music GE from "Prodigal," was high and awesome as always, but besides that, nothing but their Percussion rose above 9 points in the caption. Plus, their Visual GE was a record low for them at a 17.3, which was absolutely crippling. It's no wonder their score, 88.775, stuck them in a mere 6th place out of 8. I dearly hope they can manage to crawl out of the hole they've dug, because honestly, it's not like them to have such a bad performance.

GARRISON: Perhaps, the PRODIGAL son shall return with the Corps in finals. The last Corps to go before the break were the skilled Ekhart Harps. Tell us about them.

DANIELS: By a margin of almost 2 points, the Harps only secured one spot higher than the DCDC, with 5th place. However, I think "Battle Cry" was well-played, especially by their Brass, which were a high point in the competition. Everything else, similar to the Casselian Regiment, wasn't bad, but just terribly average. However, their General Effect was a little less combined than the Regiment, which explains them lagging by a half point or so.

GARRISON: I think they're gonna take their BATTLE CRY into Finals and make a huge impact. Then we all went on break and warmed up from the chilly Xhay weather, and we returned to ..?

DANIELS: The Uostas Squadra! From what I was told by an Alphathetan sitting next to me, they're no stranger to playing, doing many performances for their emperor, but the competition circuit is a new concept for them. I thought this was rather apparent in their performance of "Predstavleniye Dódeka". Boy, they played loud. And I mean LOUD. More than perhaps anyone else on the field. But, despite that, I felt it really lacked emotion. Plus, their visual aspect didn't line up too well with the music, which caused them low scores in GE. In light of that though, their marching style was super well defined and they were in line perfectly most of the time, which explains their record-breaking score of 9.625 in Visual Proficiency. Their guard, too, was super impressive, they set the record in this competition for guard caption. This makes sense, as I believe they're more used to marching in parades or blocks in their home country. Lucky for them, it translated very well to the gridiron field. Their music choice wasn't very attractive though, I believe it to be an acquired taste, and that combined with their low GE scores, put then in an unfortunate 7th place, .1 behind the DCDC.

GARRISON: Well, they certainly ... ah ... I can't make a pun off of that show title. Let's just move on to the Wealdheim Bards, shall we?

DANIELS: We shall. The pride of Cosumar gave another long show title to us, "Beyond The Red Mirror: A Grand Parade." I'd have to say, compared to Drums of the Drawks, their percussion has grown by leaps and bounds. They almost set a record, if it weren't for the Scragges End Sylbher Band that followed them. But their visual design and colorguard were beautiful as always, giving them lots of breathing room, and their scores under 9 points weren't far beneath it. In fact, if it weren't for their lackluster GE, they'd have gotten farther than 4th place in prelims.

GARRISON: They've gone Beyond The Red Mirror, now let's see if they get BEYOND 4th place! So next were that Brass Band from Shytysle, correct?

DANIELS: The Scragges End Sylbher Band, or "Scraggles" as I like to call them. Their show was called "♩ = 60," and, obviously, that was the tempo for most of the show. As I said earlier, they're originally a brass band, who hired some high-end percussionists to help them in the competition here. Unfortunately, brass bands are generally concert bands, and so their visual aspect was, shall I say it, sort of awful. But surprisingly good for first-timers at least. I've seen some Corps kicking around Drawkland who ... well ... are worse. But boy, their musical aspect was TOP NOTCH. I was impressed through the whole show, they even took records in Percussion, and lead the competition in Music Analysis, and Music GE. Their Brass would also be ahead if it weren't for the Harps. But overall, their second-place finish is not unwarranted. I'm impressed with them.

GARRISON: Their show may be ♩ = 60, but their SCORE > 91. A surefire contender in finals. And ending the night we had country favorite, the Bevrore Squadron.

DANIELS: That's right. Unfortunately, the home field advantage didn't play to them very well. Their performance of "Above & Beyond" just couldn't stack up against the bigger and better corps. Especially their musical and visual design. It was just design error, and it's hard to work around that. I don't blame the kids out there, I personally would blame their administration. But I digress.

GARRISON: Hopefully they can go ABOVE & BEYOND last place in finals.

DANIELS: You said it. Anyhow, I have to go to the concession stand. I hear they're giving out handwarmers.

GARRISON: I'd better tag along then. See you in finals, folks!

Due to my stupidity, I forgot this in the awards video:

The winner of the Pride and Spirit Award, for outstanding sportsmanship, goes to Uostas Squadra from Alphatheta!

Will you be posting a legitimate scoresheet in a day or two? Just for bookkeeping's sake.
