Rieaa Delsja Mic'd Up
Ontorisa - 4, Natanians and Nosts - 3

Tensions were running high as Ontorisa and Natanians and Nosts met for the first time on the World Cup of Hockey stage, but not the first time on an international stage. Rieaa Delsja, the phenomenal superstar from the OJL's Eujon Red, stood during warm-up, making idle conversation with his line mates as they stretched.

"Yeah man, I just put fresh tape on my stick, since the last job kind of wore out on the last game." Delsja noted as he rubbed the white tape on his red, black and grey Reebok 20K Sidestick. "Nice 'lil fresh job, I think I did pretty well."

"You mic'd up again?" De-ker-Peork asked as the three looked over at the team continuing to skate around.

"Always." Delsja tapped both of the other players' shins with his stick before joining the skate.

Ontorisa wore their home colours of navy blue, white and yellow while Natanians and Nosts wore their whites.

After the two national anthems played, the arena was subjected to an overwhelming "ONTORISA! ONTORISA! ONTORISA! WOO WOO WOO!", the signature hockey cry for Ontorisan hockey fans. Delsja looked up at the opposing face-off taker and nodded to him. The referee skated over and looked at the two.

"Get set boys," The referee hovered the puck. "Blue then White, alright?"

Delsja placed his stick on the ice, ready to take the face-off. He had made a name for himself in the OJL, and even before that in the RJJL for being a face-off and an all-round player. To be fair, he had a pretty good shot and was looking to get a goal this game. It was a fairly weak team anyways, coming in with a 0-1-2 record. The other player placed his stick on the ice as the ref dropped the puck, Delsja played a dirty face-off win he knew and pushed forward, slipping the puck back with his stick as he knew that Wedernas would come by to scoop up the puck.

Face-off won by Delsja, who leaves it for the captain Wedernas to pick up. Wedernas has sparked a small portion of outrage with his recent comments about the Novaya Zemlyan captain, Krasimir Yerokhin. Hopefully this does not affect his game tonight. Wedernas takes it into the zone, narrowly avoiding a check from Oscar Márius Álvares of Natanians and Nosts. De-ker-Peork is behind him for support.

Drop pass! De-ker-Peork winds up and fires one! Oh! It's off the post, but Wedernas picks up the rebound and moves it around. He passes it to Deljsa

Delsja received the pass as he looked around quickly before sending it up to the waiting defenceman, Mukai Ceb-an-Mukai. The right winger came up to challenge the young defenceman as Delsja realized this he slapped his stick on the ground.

"Back! You got pressure!" He called as Ceb-an-Mukai lanced the puck back to Delsja, who fired a second shot.

This time, there was no rebound as the goalie covered up.

"That was a laser from Rieaa Delsja, the go-to man for face-offs for both the Eujon Reds back in the OJL and for Team Ontorisa. How do you think his face-off wins are doing Mikael?"

"Rieaa Delsja is known for two things, his shot and his face-off wins. He's so creative in the face-off circle, it's hard to predict what he's planning in that head of his. Definitely an all around threat for other teams to look out for."

"Torik Sacikij, getting his first start of the tournament after Semkaris has maintained a two-game shutout streak. A very admirable performance by Semkaris, making his mark here on the international stage."

"Semkaris has always had that mark of brilliance, but if he gets shaken, you have a problem the entire game. The guy gets pretty rattled if he lets in too many goals, which has happened in the past. Sacikij is maintaining a good 3-0-1 record here in the World Cup of Hockey, let's hope he makes it 4-0-1."

"We're getting set for the face-off in the Natanians and Nosts' zone, Qanas Johik taking the face-off. He loses it to Lambe, who chips it up to a waiting Sternberg. Tolmoki is trying to get his stick in Sternberg's way as the wing is trying to push off. No, Tolmoki has that as he slashes the puck to Salkug. He slows it down, still in the first period with the score 0-0. Salkug to Psear, who takes it into the zone. Psear, flexes, fakes the shot, sends it over to Kedersolis and a slap shot! Saved by Marius da Silva!"

"7:05 remaining in the first period. We're still waiting for the first goal."

Delsja received the puck from a good breakout pass from Kolobos. Deking around an incoming defender, Delsja was off, power in his skates as he had a burst of speed down the rink. He felt free and away as he moved to shoot the puck. The goalie came out for a pokecheck as Delsja got too close. Avoiding the poke check by moving the puck away, Delsja went bar-down on the open net as the bar rang out as the frozen rubber hit it.

"GOAAAAAL! Rieaa Delsja has scored! A fantastic goal by the forward! My oh my!"

"A good feed from Kolobos sprung Delsja, and to be fair, Marius da Silva had no chance on that goal. Delsja, although he's known more for his playmaking skills, does have a nice set of hands when he decides to score. What a goal."

"Delsja breaks the tie with the first period almost over, the time of the goal being 6:53."

"Natanians and Nosts have set up a nice little firing range in the Ontorisan end, with 1:04 remaining in the penalty kill for Ontorisa. Danut Varro winds up for a shot, Wedermaak is in his way but he fires anyways! Deflection off of Wedermaak's shin and the puck just rolled right in! What a terrible looking but efficient goal!"

"That screen that was set up by Numa North was an efficient one as I don't think Sacikij ever saw that rolling puck. It might have been going too fast, not to mention he was in the butterfly stance. Not the best place to be caught on a penalty kill."

"The Natanians and Nosts equalizer is being marked as both a powerplay goal and a vital goal going into the second period, with 48.9 seconds remaining."
Ending the mic'd up here, just going into tele broadcast

"Natanians and Nosts have now scored two more unanswered goals in the first half of the second period. Mikael, just what is going on down there? What is happening to the Ontorisan team?"

"Kamij, I think it was the overconfidence of the Ontorisans that are now backfiring on them. They sort of turtled and tried forcing a draw already, but it's not been working. Legeam Cataross is visibly upset as he's now shouting at his players at the bench. Something needs to happen to bring out a new, rejuvenated Ontorisan offence."

"Who are you looking to step up for the team?"

"Vecam De-ker-Peork, the former national captain. He's been incredibly quiet this entire time. Being a 50-goal scorer in the OJL should translate to a goal or two on an international scale, right? Also Heja Corispan, the young 21-year old who's come following a 22-game point streak with the Recolosburg Tridents."

"Nice choices Mikael. The score is now 3-1, Ontorisa trailing 9:37 remaining in the second period for those who are just joining us. Etriye Wedermaak, the 2008 first round pick for the KHL's HC Sochi, is now taking the face-off for Ontorisa. He wins it back to Ceb-an-Mukai, who is not passing it and rushing straight into the zone, deking pass one of the defenders. What a move. He's up the ice, and is now being challenged by both defencemen. Ceb-an-Mukai! He has a chance! He steps outside of Ion Tarquínius' defensive range and snaps one off! GOAL! Ceb-an-Mukai! His first World Cup of Hockey goal is a nice, low glove goal!"

"I was waiting for Ceb-an-Mukai to get a goal to be realistic. The kid has potential and talent, and should definitely be wanted by any hockey team in any league. He is grade A+ material, if I should say so for myself. And believe me, I've seen the Canadian Sidney Crosby or the Russian Alexander Ovechkin in action. They're both fantastic players and Ceb-an-Mukai should be the defenceman-version of Crosby for Ontorisa."

"Ceb-an-Mukai's goal brings the tally to 3-2, a nice way to possibly finish off the second period."

"Third period's just about to start. A good time for Ontorisa to spark a comeback would be at the beginning of the third. Hopefully they're just about to do that."

"Effort's been inconsistent Kamij. De-ker-Peork has been not helping during plays. Bu-"

"Delsja wins the face-off, back to Kolobos, who tosses it back up to Delsja. He moves quickly, slicing through the defence! Good shot on net! da Silva has that and he tosses it out for his defencemen. The pass comes up but De-ker-Peork snags that up! Sends it over to Wedernas! Who passes it to Delsja! Who, one-times it deep in the slot! GOAL! Rieaa Delsja with his second goal of the game, and it's a tying goal!"

"8:53 left in the period, Natanians and Nosts have been trying to grab that final goal but have had no luck as Ontorisa is now on a 2-on-1 break! It's Tamatro and Psear! They're passing back and forth! Tamatro to Psear, who fakes the shot and draws in the defender, Tamatro, all along as Psear sends the pass! Tamatro shoots! HE SCORES! Kjil Tamatro has pushed Ontorisa into the lead!"

"Good positioning by Tamatro. That's one of his highlights, his awareness and knowing the play like the back of his hand. It's a really good shot and da Silva has no chance with the shot."

"Ontorisa is now in the lead, holding a 4-3 advantage over Natanians and Nosts."

"25.8 left in the third period, Natanians and Nosts have pulled their goalie to try and tie the game up. Rieaa Delsja is taking the face-off, having a dominating 93.7% face-off win tonight. He loses the face-off, that was a key one to win as the puck is sent back to Junio da Silva, who sends it over to Numa North, down low and he fires! Sacikij the save! What a stick save as the puck is sent into the corner! Kolobos has it as he sends it up to De-ker-Peork. De-ker-Peork, with three Natanians and Nost players on his tail, is streaking down the rink! Looking for his first goal! He's at the face-off circle and fires! Misses the net! But it doesn't matter as the buzzer sounds! Ontorisa has completed the comeback with a 4-3 win over Natanians and Nosts and remain on the top of Group C!"

Hessen Come To "Must Win" Scenario
A Nassauite State of Affairs Three Games Through
Image

After merely making one defensive err in the minimal yet decisive 1-0 loss to Novaya Zemlya, the once high flying Eagles are one potential match-day away from being eliminated prior to the knockouts once again. This time, the Nassauite representation will do all in their power to keep going, even should it require getting past Havl, the predicted Group C favorites who are comparatively hungering to reach their desired position after some setbacks.

Coming into the fourth of five match days, Group C has initiated to form distinctions of those in the two passing ranks, those looking upward, and those almost positively consigned to a forthcoming expulsion from the tournament. Ontorosia, the relative newcomer from the 26th World Cup stands tall with three victories at the top of the division, leaving the recent semifinalist Novozemlyans and historic Firing Squad in pursuit. Closing out the pack is the mysterious Warbern and the Eagles (who have suffered losses to both of the top two teams) with the prospective upstart Natanians filling the cellar spot. The only things that look probable at this point are Ontorosian advancement and Natanian elimination. As of yet, teams as high as Novaya Zemlya and as low as Warbern still have some opportunity to go either way.

Every match as of yet in the Hessian schedule has ended in one blanking. Some moments have included high-intensity last second moments and stand-on-head goaltending whereas some bouts (such as in the outing against the Novozemlyans) seemed to drag on without any real action. The only player to truly shine (outside some good moments for Melbourne and Harlatrov) throughout the tournament was (as always) Jacob Anders. In net, he has only let in three goals in three games (two of them against superiorly ranked teams). In short, the Eagles are still in it for a small return to glory, but just barely.

MD1: @ Ontorosia (L 0-2)
MD2: v. Warbern (W 1-0)
MD3: @ Novaya Zemlya (L 0-1)
MD4: v. Havl (L 2-5) UPDATED
MD5: @ Natanians & Nosts

Men's squad wrecks Maramark, advances to Ro16

You'd have to watch the game to really understand how dominant the Espars were in their game against Maramark, the score just doesn't justify it.

Espar goaltender Wolf Paige was pretty rusty from two days off and a period. Yes, a period. The first 20 minutes saw Esparmuran destroy Maramark in shots and goals. At the end of the first it was 5-0 Esparmuran, and they lead 26-0 in shots. It was probably the most lop-sided period seen yet in the tournament. Orrell Beake naturally started the scoring for the Espars by tucking a backhander past the Maramarkians goaltender and under the crossbar exactly 30 seconds in.

Beake made it 2-0 21 seconds later, capitalizing on Esparmuran's first power play that came right after the first goal. Bailey Royston controlled the puck to the Maramarkian goaltender's left and sent a backdoor pass to Beake who shot into an open net.

Kim Jardine made the Espars 2/2 on the power play, capping a quick rush at 11:53, beating Maramark low along the ice to put Esparmuran up by 3. At this point, they led 16-0 in shots.

A turnover in the neutral zone ended up on the stick of Royston, who worked a give-and-go with Beake, sending a one-timer in the slot past the Maramarkian goalie, giving the Espars a 4-0 lead with 4:21 left in the first.

The Espars finished the first period with yet another power play goal when forward Gregers Østergaard controlled a loose puck near the left post and shot into an open net at 0:45 for his first goal of the tournament. 5-0 Esparmuran at the end of one.

In the second, Maramark finally got on the board at 8:32 when one of their player's slap shot got through anothers screen. This was on Maramark's third shot.

At the end of the second, Andreas Klausen got into a scrap with one of the Maramarkian defencemen, but it never mounted into anything.

In the third, Maramark scored from the right face-off dot at 12:54 to cut the Espars lead to 3. They scored again with 5:13 left on a tip-in of a Maramarkian shot from the right point on the powerplay. Klausen got into another scrum with the previous Maramarkian, which eventually escalated into a brawl, which each side throwing haymakers. Dan Rasmussen and Bernt Bager joined into more fights, which continued into a mini line-brawl at the Maramarkian end. Klausen, Rasmussen, Bager, Danny Faulkner, Njord Abrahamsen, Devereux Bone and five Maramarkians were kicked out of the game, each with a 10-minute misconduct, with five minutes remaining.

The Maramarkians had a chance to cut the Espar's lead in half with less than a minute to go on a 3-on-1, if not for a great desperation save by Paige.

And with that, Esparmuran and Abanhfleft will advance to the Round of 16! Abanhfleft and Esparmuran will try to give eachother their first loss tomorrow, though it will probably come with a more laid-back, preseason-esque feel to it. Britonisea and the Sandwich Territories will compete for one last game, along with Maramark and Devonta.

Can They Do It?
Ontorisa sits in a comfortable position on top of Group C with a 3-1-0 record, poised to jump right into the Round of 16

Written By: Halmos Detirya

Valanora - It's been a while since Ontorisa's been in such a position, poised to jump right into the finals. However, following a draw with Warbern yesterday, Ontorisa's position is currently under attack from new found rivals in Novaya Zemlya and the highly ranked Havl, who has recently rebounded with a 5-2 win over Nassau-Hessen. It is clear that both Nassau-Hessen and Natanians and Nosts both have no chance in qualifying for the Round of 16.

So just what is happening to our team? What prevented them from taking a 4-0-0 record?

I believe it's the problem of Vecam De-ker-Peork and his inconsistency coming onto the international stage. Since the 27th World Cup of Hockey, De-ker-Peork has managed only one assist in the past four games played. He scored his last international goal in the 26th World Cup of Hockey. A very disappointing tally for such a talented player in the OJL, who puts out at least 40 goals per season in the OJL. What has happened to the former captain, now assistant to Tealmos Wedernas? Speculations say the amount of pressure and expectations that people have placed upon the 26-year old are what causing his decline. He has all of the traits of a leader: confidence, heart, the strategic mind, but he can't be a leader if he can't back-up what he says.

I recently spoke to De-ker-Peork's teammate Rieaa Delsja about multiple things.

Detirya: First of all, thank you for meeting me on such short notice, Rieaa.

Rieaa: Not a problem.

D: So, I have a few questions about, first, Vecam De-ker-Peork. What has happened to him? He doesn't seem to have been focused for any of the games?

R: Vecam's going through a slump, you can't blame him. If anything, the media's blowing the whole thing out of proportion.

D: How do you feel going into the final match against the Havl juggernauts?

R: A bunch of the guys are expecting a big L. That's stupid, what you do is keep positive and optimistic. Havl haven't found their game the entire round robin, so why start now? If we shut them down early and fast, they're toast. No worries here.

D: Pretty confident.

R: After that comeback against Natanians and Nosts and the other comeback from a 3-0 deficit against Warbern, I'm not scared. If we can't get into the Round of 16 this year, there's going to be an outcry from Ontorisa. I'm not coming back a failure, I'm getting into the finals.

D: Thanks for that Rieaa.

If Ontorisa can qualify for the Round of 16, we're expecting something better than just a simple, get-eliminated-in-the-first-game, no, we're expecting quarter finals, semi finals or the finals themselves. There's no excuse for failure at this point, we have a solid roster and we have the desire. Ontorisa hopes to improve to a 4-1-0 record in a vital game against Havl today, with everyone looking at Vecam De-ker-Peork.

Kings Barely Defeat Infinitzerland

Despite a Tyler Martin goal just eight seconds into the game, the Kings barely defeated Infinitzerland 1-0 and, by all accounts, played their worst game of the tournament. Despite the goal, the Kings only mustered twelve shots on goal, with many missing the net or being blocked. Infinitzerland was equally awful, only managing nine shots and taking six penalties. The Kings' vaunted power play just hasn't been able to get it going this tournament. Dylan Brady has a sparkling 0.75 GAA and .965 save percentage, but the offense has the same 0.75 average goals per game. The Kings' playoff hopes are currently hanging by a thread, with any six of the seven other third place teams (Cosumar, Nephara, Semarland, HopNation, Transalpine Republic, Havl, Sandwich Territories) needing to lose and the Kings needing to thrash Unified Sunrise Islands tonight.

“It seems we’ve got a tense situation going into the final match day,” Giehl said to himself.

He was lying in bed after the game against Swilatia. It had been a blowout 3-0 win against the worst team in the group, Swilatia. Jernej finally got out of his slump early on with two goals in the first period. Giehl could see the relief in Jernej’s composure throughout the rest of the game, which was a good sign of things to come. The third goal came in the middle of the third period from Yesenia Roggeveen as the third line finished out the game. He felt good now that the team was in a three-way tie for first, after having been trailing for half of the group stage.

Giehl was confident that the squad would win the final group stage match against a struggling Firebolt squad. There was a lot of good news for the team. He had managed to rest his first line for the entire third period, sending them to the hotel early so they could rest up and give it their all again versus the aforementioned Firebolt. Also, the other teams in the three-way tie, Cosumar and The Sword Bloke, were going to face each other in the final match day so at least one of them could be leapfrogged with a win. However, the only issue was that Kazirstan was still in a position to advance over one of the three first place teams with a win over Swilatia.

But it wasn’t like Giehl to worry over such details. The only thing he was concerned with was winning, something that seemed to come naturally to Zenic.

"Neu Engollon and our global viewers, welcome. I'm Karl Demais and you're watching the NETV Sports 7 Update. Once more we report on the World Cup of Hockey 28 where we see the Ibex poised to possibly move on from their group on to the round of 16. Looking across the board, many of the groups are tight with a lot of teams a point or two away from going on or going home. The only group that has been fully decided at this point is Group E, with Esparmuran and Abanhfleft confirmed to head on to the next stage. With that in mind, we look to Group A, where the Ibex could be sent home with a loss and either Semarland or Torisakia could secure that second berth in the group which would seal their journey onwards.
It will be a momentous day for all the teams in the Hockey World Cup.

Getting back to Group A and Neu Engollon, with all being said, the Ibex are looking at what should be the easiest match of the group to cement that second berth. Gim is the only unranked team in the group, and has performed predictably to their experience level, but for this most recent game which saw them beat Semarland by a goal and earn them their first win of the Cup. Theoretically, Neu Engollon should be able to dispatch this rookie team handily, but as we know with sports in the Confederacy over the last couple years, especially on the International circuit, such assumptions should not be made.

Specifically to the Ibex, what was a promising line up and new veteran coaching staff recruited from abroad three seasons ago, hadn't seemed to have helped their momentum up until now. While not bottoming out, many agree that the Ibex also didn't put in the effort needed to get beyond the group stage in the last couple Cups. Coaching staff experience aside, the impetus rests on the players themselves to rise above this habit of stalling at the group stage level. Some veterans left the team previous to last season and it definitely seemed to have effected their play. Those veterans left needed to rise to the level of their superior coaching staff, tutor the new players, and alas, they may have just done that.

When asked for a brief quote, Coach Liu had this to say about the anticipated game:

The men are well aware that tonight is a crucial game, although arguably they all were. Nothing will be taken for granted. We have studied the Gimians play and come up with strategies in order to shut down their strengths. We won't tread lightly, even though the experience level gap is significant. We will take this game on like any other we play, giving it our all.

...So, there you have it. The Ibex should be on their guard and not make easy mistakes to let this one slip through their fingers. Many across the Confederacy are anxiously going to watch the game on delay, some from home, some from the local pubs. Albertville, the home of the Ibex, is certain to be most on the edge of their seats as they tune in tonight. Stay tuned for some ATP tennis coverage and the latest roller derby scores..."

Spend The Day With Team Novaya Zemlya

Our reporter was invited to spend the whole day with our national hockey heroes in Valanora as they prepare for tonight's final round-robin game.

7.00 AM Team breakfast
The players gather in the hotel dining room. Everyone seems to be in a good mood after last night's win against Natanians and Nosts. Fyodor Ryzhkov arrives half an hour late.

9.30 AM Optional morning skate
Of course, there is no such thing as "optional" in Novaya Zemlya, so everbody is there. Lots of laughs and joking around, some light skating drills. Suddenly, out of nowhere Leonid Tikhonenko absolutely levels Pavel Solomakhin with a 15-stride charge during one of the drills. Solomakhin gets up and seems to be fine. Enver Anoshkin has a few words for Tikhonenko. The equipment manager tells me Tikhonenko is a little grumpy because he is healthy scratched for the fourth straight tournament.

11.30 AM Media availability
The Hockey Federation has stepped in and forced coach Bogdan Bobr to put on a suit. They do not want a repeat of last night's "Bobr Unleashed" episode. All goes well until Bobr starts answering every single question with "gotta work hard, get pucks in deep". Eventually, the reporters simply give up and everyone just sits around and looks at one another.

12.00 PM Lunch
Fitness freak Andrei Alenichev watches in disgust as the third line hits the donut stand.

1.00 PM Publicity stunt
Eager to improve public perception, the Federation has decided to venture into charity. So here we are with a truckload of baseball caps at a Vanorian orphanage. The event can hardly be labeled a success, since most kids look very afraid and none of them has the slightest clue who Iosif Bezukladnikov or Sergei Kutuzov are.

2.30 PM Rest at hotel

4.45 PM Team meeting
Bobr writes something on the white board. "0.0" it says. "What's that, boys?" He points at the number. Nobody attempts to answer. Bobr explodes. "IT'S OUR GODDAMNED POWER PLAY PERCENTAGE!" Paper cups flying. "We score 0.75 goals per game! Zero point seventy-five! What kind of a ******* number is that?" He tries to calm himself down. "Ok, boys, we play Warbern tonight. We know nothing about them, but we need the win to advance from the group. So I want each and everyone of you to play your heart out tonight, or else your ass will be stapled to the bench and you will never play another World Cup ever again. Now get your asses on the bus."

4.47 PM Bus ride
The team is now on its way to the arena for tonight's game vs Warbern.

"Day four of the World Cup of Hockey, with John Daverson giving you the news. John?"

That's right, Steve. Good morning, Elejamie! Yesterday saw Elejamie grab a much needed win against the Transalpine Republic. Before the match, Michael Madgwick made a couple of changes, mainly Peter Berg replacing Antonio Cervantes in goal and Alejandro Rubio Orosco taking over for Pael Atenar on the fourth line. Despite the on-going concerns about Elejamie's forwards during the competition, goals by Cerin Meloten and Danilo Barajas were enough for Elejamie to retain their position near the top of the table. Here are the highlights:

The first period got off to a relatively exciting start when, just after the faceoff, Cerin Meloten passed the puck to Francisco Solano, who tried to score from his line. Unfortunately, the puck went wide and it was called for icing. Half a minute later, Transalpinian defenceman Lukas Maier was sent to the box for two minutes for interference; he was shortly joined by Adam Keane who also had to sit out for two minutes due to interference. Another penalty came four minutes from time, when Pavle Kasun received a two minute minor for high-sticking Greg Warren. However, despite the best efforts of both teams, the period ended goalless.

The second period was equally uninteresting. After a flurry of close shots, it wasn't until five minutes after the start of the period that there was a goal; Transalpine Republic scoring first, with Mélanie Voclain's snap shot making it past Berg, with Jocelyn Faure and Alena Käufer assisting the goal. And, as hard as they tried, Elejamie couldn't equalise; Bill Harrison hit the boards, Ethan Swinburne hit the post and Danilo Barajas' slap shot went wide. Things got even worse when, less than a minute and a half from time, Francisco Solano received a two minute minor for charging; fortunately the Transalpine Republic were unable to score on the powerplay and the period ended 1-0 in their favour.

The third period saw Cerin Meloten finally bag his first goal of the tournament when, half a minute after the start of the period, he tipped the puck in; Anatoly Kasputin was credited with the assist. This was then followed roughly a minute later by Axel Gehring receiving a two minute minor for tripping Lupe. Despite now having the advantage, they were unable to score, with every shot either missing the target or getting saved by Transalpinian goaltender Charles Favreau-Faure. It wasn't until another power play seven minutes later - Monique Voclain receiving a two minute minor for slashing Carlos Sierra - that the Icy Elephants were able to push themselves ahead; Aaron Andrews winning the faceoff and passing the puck to Ethan Swinburne, whose one-timer hit the post, although Danilo Barajas managed to get the puck in off the rebound. Eventually, after a lot of effort from both teams, the match ended 2-1 in Elejamie's favour.

In a post-match interview, head coach Michael Madgwick said "I wouldn't say that was a tough game. Far from it. But now is really the time where we buckle up and try to make that final all-important push. Because what happens next, in our next game, will determine whether or not we'll be going through and, if we do pull it off, who we will be up against."

"How do you feel about Infinitzerland"

"I'm not worried about Infinitzerland. Although they're doing better than expected, it's because, to be brutally honest, none of us have been playing that well. Even Quebec, who were the number one team a while back, is now only barely at the top of the group. As for our game about Infinitzerland? We're hoping that our defence holds, since they're doing most of the work this tournament, our offence gets themselves into gear and that Toni, Peter or Pedro keeps up the good work and keeps blocking those shots."

Meanwhile, Kaboomlandia got their first win of the tournament thanks to a 1-0 victory over Infinitzerland; whereas Quebec has moved to the top of the table with a 6-3 victory over the Unified Sunrise Islands. Tomorrow is the last day of the World Cup of Hockey group stage, with Quebec taking on the Unified Sunrise Islands; and the Royal Kingdom of Quebec will be up against the Transalpine Republic. But, more importantly, the big match between Elejamie and Infinitzerland. Will the Icy Elephants make it to the Round of Sixteen? Or will they be dumped out of the tournament early? Find out on Puck Drop.

Meanwhile, Group E is pretty much over as both World Cup of Hockey 27 runners-up Esparmuren and Under-18 International Hockey Tournament bronze medallists Abanhfleft make it through to the next round. Both teams have three wins and a draw so far but it's Abanhfleft who are ahead at the minute due to goal difference...

Gregoryisgodistan 1–0 Knarland

"Good evening, ladies, gentlemen, and slaves. We are coming to you live from Unnamed Arena in Valanora, and it is World Cup of Hockey 28. Gregoryisgodistan, your brave, noble Enemy Crushers and other Ice Slaves, will take on Knarland in what is probably going to be a blowout. But we're supposed to hype it as an exciting match, so, ok, sure it will be an exciting match. Let's go with that. Knarland doesn't have a roster or a rank, so we'll make up fake, highly insulting names for their players. Again. This should be fun. Tomorrow, the Ice Slaves play the Nephromancers of Nephara, so this is a critical game for them. Let's get, ready, it's time, RIGHT NOW!

...

"14:55 left in the first, here comes Poopy Poopy Poppy Poppy Poopy down the left side, and oh, my, he is walloped by Enemy Crusher Crushdaguaya Balians and Poopy is down on the ground and appears to have soiled his pants in fear. And now just to add insult to injury, Enemy Crusher Crushdaguaya Balians is going to crush him to death as the fans cheer him on. This is fun. The Knarland coach is out to protest, but he's getting crushed too. Oh boy, another crushing! Learn your lesson - never protest the Enemy Crushers or you will PAY WITH YOUR LIFE! Two dead crushing victims in about a minute. Oh, what a glorious moment, oh what a glorious day, Enemy Crushers are crushing, everything's going our way.

...

"7:14 left first period, Weatherman 92UDH9111 passes it across the ice to Pervert Chaser JDJJ8138, he shoots, off the stick of goaltender Zala Bala Bing Dong, and there's Loyal Friend of Lord Almighty Gregory Harry Rupertson PUTBACK SCORE! GOAL FOR GREGORYISGODISTAN AND IT IS 1-0 ICE SLAVES! Fans are going absolutely wild here in Valanora. Oh no, what's this, some Knarland fans are chanting off their shirts and taunting the Ice Slaves. Now Pervert Chaser JDJJ8138 is running into the stands screaming about shirtless stupidity, and he's going to dickapitate and castrate all of them. What fun. He's quick on the dickapitation and castration. And now he's throwing the body parts onto the ice as the fans are taken to the local hospital. The broom guy will sweep the body parts off the ice.

...

"2:03 left in the first, McMcMc DumbDumbDumb comes up, passes to DumbDumbDumb McMcMc, who shoots, brilliant stop by Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel. Here is Clownfart McGeePhee, he shoots, again deflected by Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel. Duncey McGeePhee shoots, and off the chest of Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel, now cleared out of the zone by Slave Beater JQOAL94000. But Fishy Fishy Foofoobunny recovers and now will skate into the attacking zone, but offsides is called, they didn't clear it in time. It will be a faceoff. And now Foofoobunny and Slave Beater KKALMN are getting into it and Slave Beater KKALMN is going to brutally beat Foofoobunny like he's a slave. Not with the intent of killing him, because then if he were a slave he couldn't work, but merely to cause non-lethal pain. Out come a few teeth, out comes some blood, and now Foofoobunny punches Slave Beater KKALMN and you don't do that. You don't punch an Ice Slave. Ice Slaves stand up for each other. Indeed, Enemy Crusher Ronald Fatgoat is skating over and crushing Foofoobunny to death as the fans cheer him on. What rejoicing here in Valanora! Foofoobunny is dead!

...

"11:13 left in the second period, Prison Guard AQIIUS to Pervert Chaser LL00PP19F, now back to Actor 81248D8J. He shoots, just wide but Prison Guard AQIIUS will go for it, oh, but he's hit hard into the boards by Luzer PunnyBunny. And that should be boarding but no call. Oh, and now Enemy Crusher Porkbert McPorkerstein is running over to the referee and crushing him to death for not calling boarding. He deserves his death, and he's going to get it. "DEATH TO THE REFS" is the chant from the Gregoryisgodistanis, and the Enemy Crushers comply. The ref is dead as are all his assistants. Here comes the alternate crew.

...

"1:03 left in the second period, here comes Poopy Tree on the attack, dishes to Gregmas Bush, who shoots, off the stick of Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel. Now Dumbo Elefante shoots, stick save again, Dumbizi Elefante shoots, off Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel's chest, 30 seconds left, Fartsu Fatsu shoots, cleared out of the zone and Poopy Tree will hold it while they change lines. 10 seconds left now, and Poopy Tree passes in to Ukelele Farter, who shoots, it's in as the horn sounds and they'll call it a goal. But they'll also review it. And the Enemy Crushers are surrounding the replay review referee and presumably threatening to crush him if he doesn't say no goal. The referee says something to the Enemy Crushers and they part as he announces the call to the crowd. "No Goal. The puck crossed the line after the horn sounded." And lots of cheers from the Gregoryisgodistani fans, as the Enemy Crushers have done their job once more.

...

"9:13 left in the third and final period, Enemy Crusher Crushdaguaya Balians passes to Enemy Crusher Krushallah Krushsaintland, he passes to Enemy Crusher Crushy McCrushawitz, he shoots, saved by the goalie with his stick. Here's the rebound shot, too high and now the Knarland tracks it down. Oh, but the puck is taken away by Enemy Crusher Krushallah Krushsaintland who finds Enemy Crusher Porky McCrushawitz, shoots, high and now he goes crashing into Zala Bala Bing Dong, and Bing Dong is down on the ice with Enemy Crusher Porky McCrushawitz still on top of him, apparently attempting to crush him and force Knarland to bring in the backup goalie. And yep, Bing Dong is dead and in comes his possible brother Rama Bama Bing Dong. And now the Enemy Crushers are celebrating by crushing a few Knarland fans while we wait for the other Bing Dong to warm up. What fun!

...

"1:03 left in the game, Bing Dong out, extra attacker in. Here's Poo Too Teet, he shoots, off Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel's chest. Here's La Dee Dah, he shoots, again off Enemy Crusher Porky "Fatso The Third" McFattel's chest, 35 seconds left, Too Teet shoots again, over the net and into the boards behind the goal. Now Enemy Crusher Bigward McFooples will hold it for a little while and track it down before clearing it out of the zone down the side. No icing, the refs say, because someone had a play on it. And now 10 seconds left, here's Knarland one last chance but the horn sounds. And now half the Enemy Crushers are streaming onto the ice while the other half are streaming into the stands. It looks like they're simultaneously going to crush the Knarland players and fans. Knarland will have to play with a B team tomorrow, but that's just fine since nobody knows or cares about their names anyway. Meanwhile, about 200 fans have been crushed. And now the Enemy Crushers will go home and relax before this Nephara game. Good night!"

Ignorance is Bliss, Part Four

Porcusces International Airport
September 25, 2011

"Here we go again."

Those were the words on Harold Lampard's lips once he had received word that yet another NQA plane had crashed, this time in Ceneisis. Just a little more than a year ago in Mufewek, an NQA Cargo plane carrying heavy water for the Spriekt Nuclear Power Plant had overshot the runway for reasons still unknown, although he had heard that evidence was pointing to a combination of improperly maintained engines failing to deploy on reverse thrust even as the plane careened down a runway made wet by torrential rains. The investigation was still ongoing, but it was looking like the final report on the incident would cite these as the cause of the crash. And then, just a few weeks ago, a Lockheed Electra also operated by NQA suffered a dual engine fire that almost caused it to crash just outside Markovsky in Mezaladbyi. Once again, it looked as if improper maintenance were the culprit in that incident.

Lampard knew all this because he was an investigator for the Fleftic Transportation and Safety Bureau. It was their job to determine the causes of all manner of accidents and incidents involving transportation within the Democratic Republic, whether it be local or foreign. And NQA, which stood for No Questions Asked, had been drawing the attention of the FTSB for some time now. Usually, when an airline or operating company has the attention of the FTSB, it doesn't mean anything good. Now another NQA plane had gone down, and this time there were casualties. A lot of casualties.

Lampard got off the airport pickup that had taken them to the crash site and nodded at his fellow investigator, Hjalmar Carlsberg. "What's the sitrep here, Hal?" he asked. "Any survivors?"

"Not a one," Carlsberg replied, looking at the site. There was barely anything left to indicate that the pieces of scattered metal on the grassy fields had once been an aircraft. "There were a few that survived the initial incident but died on the way to hospital, those kinds of cases."

"NQA's really in the shit now," Lampard muttered. "If this turns out like the last couple ones of theirs, then this might mean the end of them."

"I know, right?" Carlsberg said. "Good thing we're finally entering the age of reform, as President Be said." Makhdoum Be, president of Abanhfleft, had declared his term will be referred to as "the Age of Reform" by the history books after he had set into motion bills and laws that will finally see Abanhfleft's various institutions elevated to the international standard.

"Let's get started," Lampard said, and the two of them walked over to where some of the initial investigators had marked out where the cockpit would've been. "Do we know anything about the crew?" he asked.

"I've got the manifest from their flight into Kusavang here," Carlsberg said as he produced a sheet of paper. "Voldemars Daugavpils, captain. Dennis Oldwicke, first officer. Menachem Dobrovolski, flight engineer. Owen Tully, navigator. And Harmon Talbot, radio operator. We've recovered the captain, the flight engineer and the radio operator so far. We're still searching for the other two crewmembers."

"Is there anything there that says who chartered this particular flight?"

"It took some warrants, but we finally got their records from yesterday." Carlsberg brought out another sheet of paper. "Okay, so this particular An-12 was chartered by... the Fleftic Ice Hockey Federation, to fly the men's and women's national under-21 ice hockey teams to Porcusces."

"The under-21 teams, you say?" Lampard asked. "Must've had something to do with the Junior Hockey Championships in that country with the very long name, Schutzenphalia, was it?"

"Goddamn it," Carlsberg muttered. "It's like Munich and Yaroslavl, that's what's happening to us right now."

"You like hockey, Hal?"

"Not really, Harry, I'm more of a football and gridiron fan. But still, it's a real, real shame that all of these young players got killed. What's gonna happen to the future of hockey here?"

"I don't know, Hal, and I can't tell. But what I do know is that it's our job to find out what happened here so it doesn't happen again. Are you with me on that?"

"Yeah, I'm with you," Carlsberg said without hesitation.

"All right. Now I know for a fact that this plane doesn't have the best black box equipment," Lampard said. "So we better be prepared to work with as little info as we can scoop up from them."

The two of them walked over to where the tail of the fuselage had ended up. It was one of the few parts of the plane that had been left intact by the crash and the fires that followed, and they could clearly see the red letters spelling out NQA on the blue empennage. "Found any black boxes in there yet?" Carlsberg asked the investigators milling around the wreckage. Two of the investigators shook their heads, and then a third peeked his head out of the tail and said, "I think I found them, sir!"

"All right, son, show 'em to us," Lampard commanded. The investigator ducked back into the tail and recovered two orange metal boxes. Despite their names, black boxes were actually orange, the better to see them in the darkness or underwater.

"Hang on, something doesn't look right," Lampard said as he looked over the boxes. "These look like the latest black boxes out there! I mean, how is that even possible? Did someone get in here and put these boxes here?"

"No way, sir," the investigator that had recovered the boxes said. "We've had people here all day and all night, and it's impossible for anyone else to sneak in some new boxes and put them in the tail. Trust us, sir. We're not messing about here."

"You just make sure of that," Lampard muttered. "I guess we have no choice but to bring them back to Riuwiee, see if they really are from this plane," he said to Carlsberg.

"You know, Harry," Carlsberg said, "if these black boxes do belong to this flight, then that means that NQA need to get some of their priorities straight."

"And why is that?"

"Because if they can splash enough cash to get the latest black boxes for even their oldest planes, then they probably shouldn't be skipping all these maintenance days for 'monetary reasons.'"

"I know. But it looks like the only way we'll find out is taking them back to Riuwiee and getting the tech guys to squeeze every bit of info in those boxes that they can."

Kings Bomb Out Against USI

The Kings just haven't been able to score, finishing out their tournament with a disappointing 1-0 loss to last-place Unified Sunrise Islands. Dylan Brady was wonderful again, stopping 33 of 34 shots, but the Kings' anemic offense got nothing going, and their power play, which was the backbone of their offense in the WCoH 27, scored only once. The numbers:
Defense:
GA: 4
GAA: 0.80
SV%: .966
Saves: 115/119
SO: 2

Offense:
GF: 3
GFA: 0.6
Goalless streak: 130:08

After the loss, Kaboomlandia Hockey announced the firing of coach Frederic Allemande. The only thing saving the coach from execution is the fact he coaches the much more successful Kaboomlandian gridiron football team. The organization will look internationally for candidates.
In=character, Kaboomlandia is a World Assembly member and abides by its resolutions. If this nation isn't in the WA, it's for practical reasons.

Metallurg signs Portnyagin

Busy day for Elite League clubs at World Cup of Hockey

VALANORA Metallurg Matochkingrad of the Novaya Zemlya Elite League has announced the signing of Kazirstani goaltender Tatiyana Portnyagin. The 17 year old phenom is described as the best prospect to come out of Kazirstan in years, and despite her young age she already has represented her country at the highest level of international hockey. On matchday 4 she recorded a shutout against The Sword Bloke in her first WCoH start.

Portnyagin finished with the second best record among goaltenders in Kazistan's KEHL the previous season, which earned her the Ronovsky Trophy for rookie of the year. She also participated in the U18 IHT, logging a .983 save precentage. Her performance at the U18's caught the attention of several clubs internationally, but the talented netminder has remained in Kazirstan up until now.

Metallurg has confirmed the signing and released the following statement:
"We are happy and thrilled to announce that we have reached an agreement with Tatiyana. It is an honor that she chose to come play for us and we believe she will be an important part of the future success of our hockey club."

Scouts from several Elite League clubs have been seen at Kazirstan's games in Group D, so it came as no surprise when Shakhter Ulyanovsk announced a signing of their own only hours later: Danis Mironov. A promising centre who captained the Kazirstani U18 squad earlier this year, after posting 83 points in 76 games in his KEHL rookie season. Most recently he centered the Kazirstani second line at the WCoH.

This could signal the start of an arms race in the NZEL, as the league is entering an interesting phase of development. Recently we learned that the league is looking to expand into other nations of the region, and Unitia City Wanderers from the Arctic Union of Witty Penguins was announced as the first foreign team to join, with a couple of other franchises rumoured to be on their way in.
Additionally, the five Novozemlyan clubs that were deemed to be in worst shape hockey-wise and financially were unceremoniously dumped to the second division, in an effort to increase the quality of play in the NZEL.
Furthermore, reports claim that the Novozemlyan government plans to increase its funding of the league to what is described as an "abnormal" level, and the NZ Hockey Federation has hinted that their long term goal is to create an all-Arctic hockey league capable of attracting the top talent of the multiverse.

The Woes Are Over!
Ontorisa dominates Group C and finally qualifies for the Round of 16 while Vecam De-ker-Peork records two goals against Havl

Valanora - "Oh Vecam! What a warrior! He moves! He strides! He's Ontorisa's pride!" The songs went up from the Ontorisan fans after a stunning 3-0 come-back against the hockey juggernauts Havl, to tie the game and finish with a draw, seeing Ontorisa go undefeated in the Round Robins. Vecam De-ker-Peork, the recent spotlight of "a lad who isn't pulling his own weight on the team", scored two goals and tallied an assist to make sure Ontorisa had a clean path to the Round of 16.

"I don't know, it happened so quickly, and I just sort of jumped into it." De-ker-Peork spoke about his performance in the game. "That slump really hurt my reputation on an international stage, so I just pushed harder."

The first and second periods were a very Havl-dominated time in the game. A nice flick of the wrist from Brad Neubauer deep in the Ontorisan slot, saw him take out Semkaris' water bottle as he opened up the scoring. Near the end of, a bad offensive zone turn-over by Kepitri Salkug led to a Havl 2-on-1, leading to a simple cross crease goal by Ravi Chandrasekhar, a nice backhand tap-in. As much as Ontorisa could, the first period was just a constant train wreck of bad penalties, bad turn-overs and a lack of offensive chances. The second period was no better.

Just 3 minutes into the second period, Ontorisa suffers a third goal, with a good slap shot from defence man Park Racer, beating Semkaris clean, bottom glove. It was embarrassing for the goal tender, who had been given a two game rest. A terrible tally for the top OJL goalie, who has been harassed by streaks of inconsistency in the past. That being said, late second period is when the jets turned on for the Falcons, as Vecam De-ker-Peork showed streaks of brilliance, with one of his breakaways being barely saved by the Havl goaltender.

With an utmost disgusting and disastrous performance by Tolkos Semkaris had left the crease, with Sacikij filling his spot. The buzzer for the Havl scorers would never sound again as Sacikij saved all 20 attempts against him as De-ker-Peork, for the first time in a long time, opened up the scoring for Ontorisa with a nice wrist shot goal from the blue line to get Ontorisa on the board. A nice saucer pass from Wedernas set De-ker-Peork up, with time to wait for an opening. Corispan, just minutes later, had secured the puck from a good feed from De-ker-Peork from the Ontorisan zone. On a breakaway, Corispan went low blocker, beating Haley Hasenpfeffer completely and putting Ontorisa in striking distance.

The battle was extremely pitched until De-ker-Peork managed to steal the puck away from Petr Zaradnik on the point, to go on another breakaway. One on one with Hasenpfeffer, De-ker-Peork finally broke his breakaway drought, by feinting a wrist shot and stretching to tuck the puck between Hasenpfeffer's skate and the post with his backhand, tying the game.

"Seriously, Vecam's one tough guy," Wedernas spoke after the game. "I don't know anyone who could pull something like he did tonight, off."

When the game ended, De-ker-Peork was rushed by his team and cheered on by the thousands of Ontorisan fans who had made the trip to cheer on their own team. Although it was a draw, it was enough to push Ontorisa to the Round of 16 where they will face Zenic in hopes of moving on.

"We gotta play hard, and make sure we minimize the chances for next time." The hero of the game, De-ker-Peork, spoke after the game.

With 2 goals and an assist, De-ker-Peork was awarded the first star of the game, while Heja Corispan was given the second and the Havl centre, Brad Neubauer, was given the third star.

World Cup of Hockey Knockout Stage Preview
by Journalist QZKEZE34S

Since our last journalist was executed for being a moron, I am your hockey columnist now. And guess what? It's time for the World Cup of Hockey 28 Knockout Stage Preview, brought to you by Slaves R Us! Slaves R Us - for all your slave buying needs. They advertise in our beautiful paper every day, and you should buy slaves from them if you're a Government VIP. But now, it's time for the preview. We will preview every round, except the third place series, because third place is for losers and fourth place is for fools. So let's get ready.

#1 Valanora vs. #16 Cosumar

Valanora enters this clear favorites, sitting on 9 points and also the hosts with home-ice advantage. The Calcuttas, or the elves who claim to be immortal but aren't because only Lord Almighty Gregory is immortal, will take on the Cosumites, or whatever they're called, from Cosumar. It should be an easy sweep for the happy little elves. Prediction: Valanora in 2

#8 Novaya Zemlya vs. #9 Nova Anglicana

The Nova vs. Novaya battle. What English language fun. But Nova Anglicana's only loss was to the defending champion Ice Slaves, and they're a strong team who stood up to the crushings and only lost by a goal. But Novaya Zemlya is a strong team too, who had their coming out party last tournament and is back for more. Still, we take Nova Anglicana. Prediction: Nova Anglicana in 3

#4 Gregoryisgodistan vs. #13 Neu Engollon Our beloved Ice Slaves are back to defend their title and will look for more crushings and xylocarp smashings and everything else that is holy about them. Neu Engollon is a decent team, but not nearly good enough for the defending champs. Too bad for them. Crushy Crushy Coo Coo! More crushings for you! Prediction: Gregoryisgodistan in 2

#5 Royal Kingdom of Quebec vs. #12 Abanhfleft The Quebbles have had an uncharacteristically poor tournament, but for them that means 8 points in 5 games, still not too shabby. The Fleftic Fiends will look to pull off the upset, and may very well take one game against the Quebecois, but they won't take two. Look for a much-anticipated Quebec-Gregoryisgodistan matchup in the quarterfinals, again. Prediction: Royal Kingdom of Quebec in 3

#6 The Sword Bloke vs. #11 Elejamie I'm sorry, Shop Owner, I love you for being a Lord Almighty Gregory wannabe, but you're not going to take this one. And you're not God either. But have fun nuking your enemies, maybe we'll help. Death to San Jose Guayabal! We will assist you. But you won't win a game against Elejamie. Prediction: Elejamie in 2

#3 Ko-oren vs. #14 Havl My, how the mighty have fallen. Havl nearly misses the deadline to sign up, then struggles in the group stage, finishing third in their group, and only goes through as a wild card. They face Ko-oren, our co-hosts last tournament and always a dangerous team. This may be the best matchup of the first round, but we've got to go with the DragonFlies. Prediction: Ko-oren in 3

#7 Ontorisa vs. #10 Zenic Ontorisa, whose Hockey Federation has proven itself to be incapable of hosting tournaments, now looks to show the world it is capable of winning them instead. But they have a tough draw in the Round of 16 in Zenic. Ontorisa played valiantly in the group stage, but Zenic will just be too much. Prediction: Zenic in 2

#2 Esparmuran vs. #15 Feministvs Sanctvsterra: As much as we'd love to see your heroines face your heroes in the WCoH final, it's just not happening. Esparmuran is too good, too fast, too strong, and they will beat the lovely ladies easily. Not in a Horse Beater sense, but they will win. Prediction: Esparmuran in 2

Quarterfinals:

#1 Valanora vs. #9 Nova Anglicana This is an interesting one. Nova Anglicana would love to pull off the upset against the elvy hosts, while Valanora seeks to lift the trophy at home. But the elves will fall and the Ice Lions will win. Leo the Lion says Ger, and so do the Ice Lions. They will Ger all the way to victory in this round, though Elfy wins a game. Prediction: Nova Anglicana in 3

#4 Gregoryisgodistan vs. #5 Royal Kingdom of Quebec For the second tournament in a row, these two premier teams square off in the quarterfinals. Why, I ask. Why not make them be on opposite sides of the bracket forever and always. Or at least that's what the Quebecois will have you think. No, these matchups are what makes hockey fun. Exciting matchups every round rather than Esparmuran-San Llera duds. It will go the distance, but the Ice Slaves will win. Prediction: Gregoryisgodistan in 3

#11 Elejamie vs. #3 Ko-oren The Ko-orenites will be out to avenge their failure on home soil, while Elejamie looks to put on their Pajammies. Can Ko-oren advance to the semis? Or will Elejamie win it again? We like the Dragonflice to take victory here, and in an upset, we'll say sweep. Prediction: Ko-oren in 2

#10 Zenic vs. #2 Esparmuran Esparmuran is great. Not as great as the Ice Slaves, but they're pretty darn good. They'll handle Zenic easily here. But Zenic will win a game. I know I contradicted myself but I don't care. Prediction: Esparmuran in 3

Semifinals:

#9 Nova Anglicana vs. #4 Gregoryisgodistan The former North American rivals square off for the second time this tournament. And the third, and possibly the fourth. But we don't think it will go the distance. The Ice Slaves are too good to need three games against Nova Anglicana. Bye Bye Lion Pie. Crush Crushy Fun Fun! Prediction: Gregoryisgodistan in 2

#3 Ko-oren vs. #2 Esparmuran The Dragonflice will play Esparmuran and their red and white flag. Will we have an Esparmuran-Gregoryisgodistan final again, or will we have a battle of the last two co-hosts? It will be a hard-fought series, much harder fought than the other one, and we ultimately like Ko-oren. Prediction: Ko-oren in 3

Third-Place:

Who cares?

Championship:

#3 Ko-oren vs. #4 Gregoryisgodistan DragonFlice vs. Ice Slaves. Let's swat the flies. Actually, let's make that a hashtag. #SwatTheFlies. And we'll use it if we play Ko-oren. And we will win. But perhaps Ko-oren will actually win a game too. It wouldn't surprise me. Our Ice Slaves aren't perfect, only Lord Almighty Gregory is. But they will ultimately repeat as champions. Part One Part Two Part Three Part Four

Ignorance is Bliss, Part Five

Porcusces, Ceneisis, Abanhfleft
September 25, 2011

In just a matter of hours, Cristobal Rosenberg's world had been turned upside down.

Just a day ago, he was the first pick of the FNIHL Entry Draft, having been chosen by the Lotharstadt Jaegers--his hometown team, incidentally--to shore up their defense as starting lineman. His younger brother, Trenton, was a member of the national under-21 team, and they were about to meet up in Porcusces and have fun in the town as soon as Trenton arrived from training in Kusavang.

But that had all gone out of the window when Cris had received word that Trent had been killed, along with the rest of the teams and the crew, when their plane had crashed just outside the airport. It wasn't just the fact that his younger brother was now dead. They had plans of taking the FNIHL by storm and leading Lotharstadt to championship upon championship. The team were already in talks to secure the younger Rosenberg in the first draft that he was eligible.

But that was never going to happen now. Trent was dead, along with most of the other promising young players of Abanhfleft. It wasn't the end of the world for Fleftic ice hockey, but it certainly was a blow to its future growth. But Cris didn't care anymore about what happened to hockey in Abanhfleft. All he cared about was his brother, and the fact that Trent will no longer be playing hockey anymore.

It was an event that no one in the Rosenberg family had expected. Trenton was only fifteen, for God's sake! He still had his life ahead of him. He should be out there, living life to the fullest, not lying on a cold steel table in a morgue far from the city of his birth. But sometimes worked like that. Strings of life that still had a long way to go in the grander tapestry of the universe were cut by the Fates, sometimes by mistake and sometimes by deliberate intent. Perhaps, in the grand scheme of things that mere mortals couldn't understand, Trenton Rosenberg was quite literally too good for this world.

After receiving the devastating news from a policeman who looked like he could hardly care less even if his own brother had died in the crash, Cris Rosenberg had left the airport in an uncomprehending daze. As he strolled through the streets of Porcusces, nobody paid him any attention, not that he would have wanted any, anyway. All he wanted to do now was to go to the park, lie down on a bench, and sleep. And he did just that, although on the way he went into a store to buy some liquor, although the cashier had initially refused to sell to him until he showed him his identity card, and even then the cashier thought it was a fake until Cris showed unquestionably that it was a real ID.

Cris Rosenberg woke up on the bench the next day with a half-empty bottle of cheap beer in his hand and a mysterious hand tapping on his leg. Voices seemed to be calling out to him, but he couldn't hear anything that his hungover brain could understand. He blinked the hangover-induced blurriness out of his vision and finally laid eyes on the person who was repeatedly tapping his leg. "You are the absolute last person I expected to see here," he finally managed to say through his gummy tongue.

"Ain't I a sight for sore eyes?" replied Theodore "Ted" Kawakami, Cris's fellow draft classmate and teammate in Lotharstadt. Despite his name, though, there was no drop of Asian blood in Ted's veins. It just happened that the family that had adopted him was Japanese, or at Japanese-Fleftic. And far from being ashamed of being adopted by a family far from his actual cultural lineage, Ted bore the designation of Japanese-Fleftic proudly, even going so far as to learn the culture of his adoptive family. His official identity documents even had his full name as Theodore Kenichiro Kawakami; such was his devotion to his adopted culture.

"Get your feet off the bench and clear a space for me, will you?" Ted told Cris, who immediately though drunkenly obliged. "You look like a right proper mess, Cris," he said once he sat down on the bench.

"I really look that bad, man?" Cris asked. He made to bring the bottle of beer to his lips, but Ted slapped it away. "That's enough of that stuff for you, man," Kawakami said. "It ain't gonna do you any good this time."

"What are you even doing here, Ted?" Cris asked.

"I live here in Porcusces, remember?" Ted replied. "At least before the season starts and I'm off to Lotharstadt with you. And as for what I'm doing here talking to you while you try to do your best impression of a homeless drunk, your mother dropped by and asked for a favor, namely, to find your ass in my city."

"Aren't you even gonna ask why, Ted?"

"Not really, no. Everyone knows about Flight 1200. Look, man, I don't really know your brother really well, but I do know that Abanhfleft lost one of its biggest and brightest talents when Trenton died."

"Tell me about it," Cris muttered. "We were gonna tear the league apart, Trent and I. We were gonna give Lotharstadt every title we can dream of until we retire. Sure, we were gonna give you a cut of the action, Ted, but that's all just wishful thinking now. Hell, we even had an agreement with the team that they were gonna draft him as soon as he was eligible. Turns out it was all for nothing..."

"Hey, don't get yourself down like that, Cris," Ted said. "If he saw moping about like this, he'd be ashamed to be your brother. Man up, Cris!"

"Just shut up, will you? You don't know what it feels like, Ted. Leave me alone and let me be."

"Don't pull that 'you don't understand what I'm going through' shit with me, Cristobal. You know as well as I do that me not knowing who my real parents are still hurts me to this day! And I can't let you just go on and drink your sorrows away. One of the caretakers in the orphanage became an alcoholic because of her failed relationships, and it wrecked her completely. I can't let you do that to yourself, man. You're a top draft pick, for God's sake! Do you really want to throw that away just so you can forget about your little brother's death for a few days at most? I can't do that, Cris. Not without my conscience bugging me for the rest of my life telling me I could have done so much for you."

"All right, Ted, you seem to know what to do," Cris said. "Tell me what I should do."

"Get up off this bench, throw that beer away, and follow me back to your hotel."

"How's that gonna help?"

"It's gonna get you away from the horrible mess that you are about to make of yourself if you continue down this path you've set for yourself."

"All right, Ted. Say for the sake of argument that I go with you. What am I gonna do next?"

"That's your choice, Cris. But think about this, though. If not for yourself, then do it for Trent. I'll be waiting for you when you make your mind up." With that, Ted got up and began to walk away. Cris was left to stare at his teammate's receding form. Thoughts raced through his mind. On the one hand, he still wanted to drown his sorrows. On the other hand, though, he knew that this was not how Trenton would want him to mourn for him. Options weighed on his mind, and then he finally made his choice.

Cristobal Rosenberg stood up, threw away the bottle of beer in his hand and ran up to Ted Kawakami. "Wait for me, man!" he called out.

It’s been a strange World Cup of Hockey so far for Zenic. A surprising loss to The Sword Bloke followed by a draw against the second worst team in group D, Firebolt, have left the squad in second place and a Round of 16 matchup with group C winner, Ontorisa. It is quite a surprise as most thought the squad would unfortunately have to face another top ten seed as consequence for not winning the group.

Ontorisa are currently ranked 26th in the world and won their group over the likes of 4 time champions Havl and last year’s fourth place team, Novaya Zemlya. They play an attacking style of hockey that emphasizes speed and technical skill over physical play. Ontorisa appears to be quite a formidable squad but this is not the first time we’ve faced this squad. Zenic came out on top 3-1 against Ontorisa in the group stage of last year’s World Cup of Hockey, a group Zenic would win over one of the hosts, Ko-oren while Ontorisa would get knocked out with one game remaining.

For those of you reading who are unfamiliar with Zenic ice hockey history, Zenic had been shown to be a very consistent team, having failed to make it to the quarterfinals of a WCoH only once so far: our first participation, WCoH 24, when we were eliminated in the group stages. Since then, we’ve made it all the way to the Quarterfinals before being knocked out. There is an interesting note here from our analyst at the Leinz Herald about our opponents in the Quarterfinals. 2 of the 3 opponents we lost to in that stage proceeded to finish in the top three of that World Cup of Hockey. In WCoH 25 we lost to the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, who went on to finish third place over Vilita & Turori. In WCoH, 27, Esparmuran would finish runners up to eventualy champions Gregoryisgodistan. Only Vilita & Turori failed to finish in the top three at WCoH 26, losing to Valanora in the third place playoff.

Meanwhile, Ontorisa has a long way to go before matching the consistency of our squad. This the third WCoH they have participated in and the first time they have ever made it out of the group stage. Ontorisa have never played poorly in the group stage: they’ve always finished with a winning record and a positive goal differential, which is a credit to their talent. But I can’t shake the feeling that Zenic will simply be too much for them over the course of three games.

I am predicting this series to go to all three games with Zenic winning two out of three games and once again making it to the Quarterfinals. Zenic still hasn’t shown that consistency we’ve become accustomed to yet, which is why Ontorisa will most likely win one game in the series. Of course, this could be when Zenic decides to finally start to get working like a team and finally make it past the Quarterfinals.

Who knows? But what I do know is that Zenic will have to take care of Ontorisa first if they want to end start to think about beating their future Quarterfinal opponent.

World Cup of Ice Hockey - Knockout Special
WCoH 27 Memories...

Surely nobody has forgotten this, but the last World Cup of Hockey was hosted by Gregoryisgodistan, and well, us. Media across the multiverse have reminded their audiences of the well-run tournament. Some teams started their journeys there, some teams had their big breaks on Ko-orenite ice and others disappointed, but are back to impress this World Cup. Anyhow, it's clear that the Green/Blue and Black/Red World Cup has made history.

Zenic had a great time, and Novaya Zemlya and Esparmuran cemented their status as Ice Hockey nations. Elejamie finished top in their group to send the legends of Havl home, setting a tv ratings record in the process. The Equestrians also had a good run, but are strangely absent from this current World Cup. In our own home, the previously mentioned four went through to the quarterfinals after all four won their Round of 16 openers. Novaya Zemlya came fourth and discovered a new hero in Bezukladnikov, Esparmuran took the silver and our co-hosts Gregoryisgodistan won the gold!

As for the 28th World Cup, the three big teams from last World Cup are still in the Round of Sixteen. Esparmuran was second overall in team statistics, the title holders are fourth and Novaya Zemlya had to do with a modest eighth. As always, the Dragonflies are still in it as well. Not as commanding as in basketball or gridiron, but there are some to mention that the Green and Blue could be seen as far as the final this year.

Defence is king

And now for trends this tournament: good defences. Sure, we haven't seen the best face off against the best, but so far, there are many teams that have conceded less than one goal per game, rivaled by exactly zero teams in the domestic league of the Union. Small sample size, big difference in quality between teams, but the fact remains that a lot of goaltenders have had pretty good times out there. Ko-oren has allowed four goals in five games, and while you may think that's all good, we have the Ice Slaves allowing just one and three teams on just two GA. Zenic has three, and us and Elejamie are on four goals allowed.

Many teams are playing the cautious game in one way or another. Big players in charge of knocking everyone down or over who comes close to the goal, technical defenders for getting the puck back in possession, or a mixture of just about anything that works... all things considered, most big teams this World Cup rather have their opponents in possession and strike on counter than to make the plays. Abanhfleft and Cosumar play a moderate attacking game and Torisakia have gone all-out on more than one occasion. Valanora, as the hosts, are trying to entertain the viewers a little as well. Quebec and Esparmuran are the only big teams to really look for attacking plays all the time. Havl have also played their traditional attacking game. That said, Havl have just barely qualified, and the same goes for Abanhfleft and Cosumar. Esparmuran and Valanora have dominated the group stage, on the other hand, but then again, the remaining 10 teams are defence-minded teams.

Dragonfly Statistics

Five games, four victories and a draw, no losses, nine goals scored and four conceded. Ko-oren are third on the seeding list. No team managed to go 5-0-0. Basically... we're going places. Havl are the next opponents, historical heavyweights but slowly sinking as of late... but never to be underestimated.

We have recorded three defensive shutouts, Norrehavn put just one past us, and 75% of our goals allowed are courtesy of Feministvs Sanctvsterra. Then again, almost 50% of our goals scored are against them too. We won three games by the minimum difference of one goal (4-3, 1-0 and 1-0), and factoring in the one draw we had, that's one game we won by a 'comfortable' margin. Comfortable still meaning 'by two goals', in the group closer against HopNation. Here is the list of scores:

Ko-oren 4–3 Feministvs Sanctvsterra
Ko-oren 1–0 Oslesh
Polaaskan 0–1 Ko-oren
Ko-oren 1–1 Norrehavn
HopNation 0–2 Ko-oren

And here is a list of scorers (by amount and position):

Evans C 2 (v. Feministvs Sanctvsterra on powerplay, assisted by Anatolievich and Oslesh, assisted by Shizuka)

"Good evening to Neu Engollon and our International crowd. You're watching the NETV Sports 7 Update and I'm your host, Karl Demais. There are a lot of exciting events about to happen on the horizon for Confederacy sports, but most paramount is still the World Cup of Hockey 28.
The Ibex cleared their group by squeaking by Gim, the lowest ranked team of Group A with one goal after an intense, highly defensive match. Of course, with Neu Engollian luck, they are matched up against the World Champs of hockey, Gregoryisgodistan for their Round of 16 match. Magda Wertauer is on site in Valanora and got a chance to talk to Julien LeTranc, veteran defenseman for the Ibex..."

"Julien, how are you feeling? How is the team and are they prepared for this momentous match?"

"We're doing pretty well, Magda. I think we'll be as ready as we're ever going to be. I think that people are exaggerating the Gim game. It was low scoring because we were playing low key and saving energy for this, not because Gim was that difficult a side."

"Uh, you all kind of played it a little too close and low key then, don't ya think? The Ibex won by getting the only goal of the game."

"Yeah, maybe. We got the job done and here we are still in it. That's what counts."

"So, this intimidation factor of the Gregoryisgodistanis...is it having an effect on the team? The whole extremist violence thing?"

"...meh...We're not really bothered. We got it covered. We can look out for ourselves. We want to play hockey, not become victims of some fanatical politics here."

"But...but...they kill opposing players and 'infidel' foreigners. That's not terrifying?"

"Ummm...Nah. Talk. Lots of talk. We're going to give as good as we get and just play some straight up, good hockey. That's why we're here. Not all that other nonsense."

"You seem pretty blasé about all this. Any particular players from their side that you're looking out for?"

"Uh, whatever....The Crushy-crush-crunchmaster Crushaliscious dude? #4? Is there like...a difference? They're all robots or something, right? We're focused on beating them. That's what counts. I gotta go."

"Thanks for talking with us, Julien. Good luck."

"Thanks, Magda."

"...Thank you, Magda and Julien. We will have the game on live tonight, right here on NETV Sports 7. Stay tuned for some AVBF Sevens and World Cup rugby previews and roller derby scores and highlights. Right after this commercial break..."
TG me with questions if you got some, especially about GE&T or PMCs.

Feministvs Sanctvsterra Today

Candidates Campaigning for Votes in 504 out of 505 Electoral Districts

Our heroic candidates are campaigning for your votes in 504 of the Kingdom's 505 electoral districts, making Feministvs Sanctvsterra's slate of candidates the largest of any registered political party. While we wanted to campaign in all 505 districts, we ultimately decided not to run a candidate in the Palace District, as we would likely have no hope of winning the votes of our Royal Family. Nonetheless, we believe that we are well-positioned to, at the very least, control the balance of power in the Parliament and help steer our nation in a more modern and woman-friendly direction.

Many of you may be wondering what we stand for, given the enormous amount of misinformation spread about us in the past. Our platform is based on the idea of feminist democracy, which holds that the needs of women and children should come first for women are the equals of men and have been greatly wronged in the past by Patriarchy. You may be wondering what is meant by Patriarchy, so we'll clarify that for you: Patriarchy does not refer to the Church hierarchy. It refers to the system by which all men systematically oppress all women by depriving us of the rights and privileges that they take for granted. It is an unjust and immoral system that needs to be abolished, but mere abolition of the Patriarchy will not erase its sins. That can only be done via a temporary policy of Affirmative Matriarchy, to last until women are truly the equals of men.

In terms of policy, this means that we want a society where men do their fair share of the housework, freeing up women to chase their dreams outside of the home. We want a society where women are free to leave their abusive husbands and where men who hit (or worse, rape) their wives will actually be prosecuted for their crimes. While we may have objectified ourselves in some publicity-grabbing stunts in the past, we emphatically do not favor the objectification of women in the fashion that was once common in the Free Republics and we strongly support efforts to shut down creeps who profiteer off of the bodies of women. We favor a policy of economic justice for all and wish to spend the money which the Royal Treasury and the Church are hoarding for the good of the people of Sanctvsterra.

The one thing which we emphatically DO NOT favor is choice. At the present time, many women have internalized their own subjugation. Because of this fact, if we permit them to choose whether to live according to the misogynistic traditional way or according to the modern, progressive, feminist way, far too many women will choose to live the wrong way. Therefore, we believe that a campaign of re-education is required to teach women that we were not created to serve men, but rather are the equals of men and can do everything they can do just as well as they can, if not better! The rhetoric of choice empowers reactionaries who would block progress toward gender equality. Thus, we reject false choices. Furthermore, we want to make it especially clear that we DO NOT favor the legalization of infanticide (either before or after birth), homosexuality, crossdressing, pedophilia or polygamy. These are all despicable acts which we steadfastly oppose!

We wish to finish this statement of our principles by apologizing to anyone whom we may have offended with our over the top antics in the past. We especially apologize to the Church and to the Lord Our God for some of our more blasphemous protests. We were wrong to have done that and we now recognize that we went too far back in those days. We ask only that you consider voting for us so that we can lead this great nation toward an even greater future. We promise that, if elected, we will govern responsibly, according to the principles taught by Iesus Christus and with the best interests of men, women and children in mind.

Censorina Polus read the latest article published on her organization's web site and was a bit taken aback by some of the rhetoric. She had joined an organization committed to overthrowing Throne and Altar but now they were pledging to "govern responsibly, according to the principles taught by Iesus Christus" rather than governing in accordance with the wishes of the One True Goddess, who actually created the multiverse before her no-good dead-beat husband God stole the credit for it.

Censorina should have been in much higher spirits, as she was now receiving the recognition she deserved at home after putting up 3 goals and 4 assists in the group stage, effectively contributing to 7 of the 10 scoring plays for her team. Yet, she just couldn't get over the sense that her group was selling out their beliefs, just to contest a stupid election that was probably going to be rigged in the first place. Even if it wasn't rigged, Censorina didn't see how they stood a chance of winning. While her bat-crazy gender traitor of an aunt, Maria, was banned from Sanctustube, a good deal of the Sanctii population still agreed with the nun's fanatical views. Even Censorina's own sisters, mother and cousins still felt that Feministvs Sanctvsterra was an immoral organization and that Censorina was committing a grievous sin by associating with it.

She was alienated from pretty much her entire family and from mainstream society back home, but she had felt at home over the past few years living on the run with her sisters (and brothers) in Feministvs Sanctvsterra. Yet, Censorina was feeling more and more disillusioned with her group's loss of their edge. Even though everybody was constantly reassuring her that they were just putting on an act to fool over the voters, Censorina was, ironically, a firm believer in the 8th Commandment against bearing false witness. She was bothered whether they had sold out or were flat out lying to the voters. Since she couldn't change this and since there was no alternative to Feministvs Sanctvsterra other than turning against equality altogether, Censorina decided to try to ignore her problems with the group's new direction and focus on ice hockey instead. Given that her team would be facing Esparmuran, ranked 5th in the multiverse coming into this WCoH and the #2 overall seed going into the playoffs, she really needed to give her full undivided attention to the events that would soon unfold on the ice...
OOC: Puppet of Saintland

International Signing Watch
From the 1995 4th Overall Pick, Kuili Desuimark, to former 50 goal scorer, Friteras Mokomis

Calvisburg, Ontorisa - With the 28th World Cup of Hockey tournament winding down, there has been talk of various free agents wanting out of the OJL System and into other hockey leagues to play the wonderful game again. Some names, no one has ever heard of before, but others people have seen on headlines before. Most notably, the former 4th Overall Pick from the 1995 OJL Entry Draft, Kuili Desuimark, wants out of the OJL.

"It's no hard feelings with the league." The 38-year old spoke on his desire to sign with another team. "I know my skill isn't where teams here want it to be, but I'm not ready to retire yet. I want to keep playing professionally, but maybe at another league."

Desuimark, who finished last season as an unsigned free agent, has complained multiple times that even though he is 38 years old, he still has fuel in the tank. Obviously, he did not appeal to the OJL teams, who had refused to sign him, with one GM going out of his way to take a jab at Desuimark, calling him a waste of contract space and money. Old man should just retire.

Friteras Mokomis on the other hand, spent a good portion of the previous season with the Esanmur Timber Wolves. Playing 32 games, Mokomis was scratched for the majority of the season, playing mostly as a depth forward, where he saw multiple games due to the Timber Wolves having multiple injuries.

"I just want to play." Mokomis gave a simple comment on his interest to move.

There is speculation that the two former talents, along with multiple other players who want out of the OJL's free agency, will hopefully find spots with other teams in other leagues. Analysts are speculating that countries whose leagues are not as highly rated as the OJL are where the players will go. If not, they will hopefully find spots with the major leagues rated above the OJL like in Quebec.

Drafted: 1st Round, 4th Overall (1995 OJL Entry Draft)
Drafting Team: Qajs Storm
Last Team Played For: 2012-2013 Bevosburg Fanatics (73 GP, 19 G, 13 A, 32 P, -15 +/-, 42 PIM with Fanatics' LSJL Affiliate, Saimia Nationals)
Height: 6"3
Weight: 212 lbs
Strengths: Endurance, Good slap shot, Decent mix between scoring and hitting
Weaknesses: Too slow for the OJL
Notes: Desuimark is looking for a hockey league to get back into the sport. He has expressed interest in possibly going for the highest level of hockey in a country that is easier than the OJL.

Friteras Mokomis

Position: C
Date of Birth: February 7th 1980 (Aged 35)
Drafted: 2nd Round, 53rd Overall (1998 OJL Entry Draft)
Drafting Team: Fresait Wildfire
Last Team Played For: 2014-2015 Esanmur Timber Wolves (32 GP, 10 G, 6 A, 16 P, -6 +/-, 18 PIM)
Height: 5"11
Weight: 198 lbs
Strengths: Good speed, Accurate shot, Excellent at face-offs
Weaknesses: Inconsistent, Poor defensive awareness
Notes: Mokomis was originally a 50-goal scorer in the 2003-2004, 2004-2005 and 2005-2006 OJL Regular Seasons. However, around the 2009-2010, Mokomis' production dropped all of a sudden, and has struggled with the teams he has signed with since then, especially the Esanmur Timer Wolves, whose GM was relieved to be freed of Mokomis' 2-year, #E 840,000 contract. If Mokomis were to be signed, he would probably be able to perform at a 30-goal season in an easier league.

"And we're back for the third and final period. Not just of the match but of the season as well."

"That's correct. In the second period, the Stars managed to get two goals - one by Þorvaldssón and one by Kitahara. However, the Ice Elephants managed to bring the score to 2-2 when Bertrand Charpie's shot managed to get past Taggart. Both very strong teams trying to get the win but, overall, there is no one hungrier for the win than Avon. They desperately need this in time to win the League; an overtime win's not going to cut it."

"Now shall we get back to the action?"

"Yes, let's."

20:00 - "There's the puck and there's the last period of the season is underway."

19:32 - "Þorvaldssón wins the puck from the faceoff, passes it to Kitahara... It's in off the one-timer! Avon 3, Elejamie City 2!"
"A nice clean shot. You could see Christie try to grab it but it was just out of his reach."

14:36 - "Montana to Rennis. Lorenzaño intercepts and passes it to Serrato. Could this be 4? No, it isn't! Ben Hudson has crashed into Miguel Serrato!
"Yes, it looks like it will be a two minute minor for interference. And maybe a penalty shot for Avon."

12:11 - "Kester. Kester passes it to Bailey. Bailey shoots... GO-"
"I'm afraid I'll have to cut you off a minute there, Dave. It looks like the ref is waving it off! Apparently, the puck hit the crossbar but we're not sure about whether or not it crossed the line. Looking back at the video footage, I have to say that it did definitely cross the line. But will the ref agree? We'll have to wait and see"
...
"The ref has confirmed that the puck did not cross the line. The score is still Avon 3, Elejamie City 2."

10:05 - "Just coming up to the halfway mark, Elejamie City are on the attack. Could they answer that last goal? Iglesias Montano lines up the shot... Saved!"
"I will say that that was an excellent save. IgMo was firing the puck like there was no tomorrow. Thankfully Taggart had his gloves on, otherwise that probably would've broken his fingers. Or at the very least did some serious damage. Hell, it might be worth getting that checked out after the game."

6:55 - "Sorenson wins the face-off. Passes the puck to Kastner... Christie knocks it away with the stick. But wait! What's this? Sonoda's coming in and knocks it into the net! Avon 4, Elejamie City 2!"
"That was a beautiful shot. Nobody expected Justin Sonoda to come in and just whack it in like that. Especially when you think that Lizotte or McClean would've gotten to it first, Sonoda comes right out of nowhere and finishes the job. Simply marvellous."

0:30 - "Well, Avon's got this all wrapped up. And I don't see... What's this? Þorvaldssón's passed the defence. He's going to take a shot on the empty net... I THINK THAT'S ALL WRAPPED UP! AVON 5, ICE ELEPHANTS 2!"
"Yes, what a perfect shot. Patrós simply deked it past McClean and Madsen, before beautifully tapping the puck into the net. Just simply beautiful."

0:00 - "And there we have it! The Avon Stars are now your new ENIHL Champions! It was a very close call, with the trophy looking like it was going to the Dockers. But no, Avon managed to snatch a last second - never mind a last minute - victory. Your thoughts, Jim?"
"Elejamie City played hard and it looked like they were going to get the win. Indeed, they were going to get it last week but, as we all know, God appeared to be on the Stars' side. And with their second chance, they've managed to turn things around in their favour despite a poor first period."
"That's true. I've been Dave Ryan, he's been Jim Morrissey and this was Puck Drop. We'll catch you in the next couple of months for pre-season friendlies and the start of the '94-'95 ENIHL seasons. Take care and we'll leave you with the Avon Stars celebrating their win."

Period P1	P2	P3	FS
Avon Stars 0 2 3 5
E.C. Ice Elephants 1 1 0 2

During the off-season, a backup generator was installed at Riverside to prevent something like this from happening ever again. Other stadia in the ENIHL followed suit over the next couple of years.

As for [a small number of] those who played in this game?

  • Anyone who follows my WorldVision commentary (which, to be perfectly honest, is just me) will know what happened to Flynn Taggart.
  • Sumio Kitahara - who was on a season-wide loan from the Coventry Puffins - would later return to his main team the following season, eventually becoming the first (and only) captain to win the league twice for two different teams (Avon Stars in 93/94 and Coventry Puffins in 94/95). He then moved to the Blackport Raiders in 2000, but returned to Coventry in 2006, retiring at the end of the season, with #5 (his shirt number throughout his career) being retired by both Coventry and Blackport; Avon still uses the number.
  • After he moved to them from Coventry in 1992, Jon Burton stayed at Avon for the rest of his entire career, retiring in 2003. After being an assistant manager with the Berlin Lightning for three years, he took the head coach job at the start of the 2007/08 season. He then returned to Avon before the start of the 2010/2011 season and, after his #41 jersey was retired by the club in a public ceremony, coached the team to victory.
  • Andy Bailey stayed with the Stars until 1997, when he moved to the Barr Bears, He then moved to the Auckhampton Fathers in 2000, before going to Murgon HC in 2004. He made one final move to the Pikestown Panthers in 2009, staying with the club until his retirement in 2013. When he's not coaching the Avon Stars' youth team, he's an assistant coach with the Elejamie Junior squad.
  • Jimena retired in 1999, following a motorbike accident that nearly cost him his right leg. After months of rehabilitation, he eventually joined TVNP (Televisión Nuevo Paraíso, the Spanish-language offshoot of ETV). In 2012, he became a commentator for live ice hockey games on the Spanish version of Puck Drop.
  • At the start of the 94/95 season, Diego Iglesias Montano became the new captain for the Elejamie City Ice Elephants and Mark Hackett became a new alternate captain. Iglesias Montano would retire in 2002, whereas Hackett retired in 2005. The former is an assistant coach for Ángeles de la Playa de Rocas and is the favourite to take over for Raúl Aguilar when he retires at the end of the season; the latter works for his alma mater Woodsworth Academy, being the head coach for the school's ice hockey team the Aces.
  • Eric Christie, meanwhile, moved to Praciba in 1998 to play for Krisþisinam Járnisarn. He returned to Elejamie in 2000, to play a couple more seasons with the Ice Elephants. He then played a season for the Fort Checkers Elites in the ENIHL2 before retiring in 2003. His #1 jersey was retired by the Ice Elephants in 2012.
  • Þorvaldssón stayed in Avon until 1996, when he returned to Praciba. His retirement in 2008 signalled the end of the golden age of Pracib hockey, with the team struggling to reach the heights they reached in the 90s.
  • Although he retired from international games in 2013, Alex Sorenson is still playing to this day. After his five-year contract at Avon expired, he then played for Víkíng mós Gloriatra '78 in Praciba (1999-2001); Edgebaston Shamrocks (2001-2005); Berlin Lightning (2005-2008); Woodsworth Condors (2008-2013); and Barr Bears (2013-). He has announced that he will retire at the end of the 2016/17 ENIHL season when his contract expires.
