It was as if they were determined to demonstrate the definition of inconsistency. Three wins, followed by three losses - although he knew that his players played hard - and really put in their best effort to represent their nation as well as they could - things were just not working out as expected. It was such a shame really, because they were so close to achieving their goal of getting to the knockout stages for the first time in Chromatik history. Ng supposed that getting accustomed to heartbreak, to failure, was also part of becoming a member of the international sporting scene. He wished it weren't so, but it absolutely was, and there was nothing he could do about it.

He'd told his players that things would shake out, and that regardless of the end result, they'd remain an integral part of Chromatika's history, but that had only served to make the players feel saddened that there was a chance of them not going down as not only the first team to ever play in an international event but also the first team to go to the knockout stages. To be fair, he felt the same way. The word from up high was to do as well as possible, no pressure, but he knew that was a lie - nobody remembered failures, nobody remembered also-runs or has-beens. It was go big or go home.

And they'd have nine more games to prove that they were going big, or else.

Hitting Saves Anacondas in 4-3 Win

It was a series that the Anacondas hadn't expected to sweep. Abanhfleft was the tenth ranked in the multi-verse, and they had been able to take two of three from Frenline Delpha in their first series. The Anacondas were back for revenge, though, as they managed to sweep off the Revolution, improving their record to 17-7. Unfortunately, Saintland still holds a one game lead for first place in Group 3. The first game saw Frenline Delpha start the series on a high note, when they defeated Abanhfleft by the score of 6-4. The second game was closer, but Frenline Delpha managed to score two runs in the eighth inning in order to give them the 6-5 win. The third game was completely dominated by the hitting of the Anacondas, and they secured the sweep, 4-3.

The pitching started off well, as it generally did for the Anacondas. Albern managed to get an opening fly out, a strike out, and a ground out, to end the 1-2-3 inning. Frenline Delpha managed to get two people on base when Marketer doubled and Frekline singled three batters later, but the two were stranded when Cunningpie hit into a fielder's choice. Albern continued to throw fire in the second inning, getting one man to strike out, one to line out, and one to fly out to right field. The Anacondas managed to get another runner on in the second, but Flooris grounded into an inning ending double play. So far, Frenline Delpha had managed to get three runners on base, but the score remained 0-0.

Abanhfleft recorded a hit in the third, but a ground out from the next batter ended their inning on a double play. The bottom third saw the Anacondas get two quick outs, but Malfastern tried to keep the inning going when he singled. Lafringe also managed to hit a hard single, but Frekline flew out directly after that. After three innings, the score was still 0-0. The score wouldn't remain that way for long, but it wasn't the Anacondas who struck first. In the fourth, Teves started out the inning by recording a double for the Revolution. The next battle had a similar idea, as he singled to left. This allowed Teves to head to third. Heng struck out, but the next batter, He, grabbed a high pitch that rocketed into the glove of one of the outfielders. This allowed Teves to tag up and give the Revolution the 1-0 lead. Baoteng then stepped up and leveled a single that allowed Teymourian to advance to third. The next batter came up, and he cracked off a double to center field, This allowed Teymourian to score, and it gave the Revolution the 2-0 lead.

The Anacondas wouldn't get back in until the fifth inning. It started out with a single off the bat of the pitcher, Albern. The next batter managed to push Albern to third with his crushing double to center field. Now, the Anacondas had two runners on base with no outs. Malfastern would be the one to give Frenline Delpha its first run. He cracked a solid double, and Albern managed to cross the plate for a 2-1 game, and Marketer slid just under the tag from catcher Laurel. making the game tied up 2-2. The crowd was ecstatic. Frekline struck out, but the inning didn't end there. Cunningpie took the first pitch he saw, and he clubbed it into right field, allowing Malfastern to score from third. The inning ended soon after on a double play, but Frenline Delpha had managed to grab the 3-2 lead. Abanhfleft didn't just give up, though.

Truthfully, the sixth wasn't very interesting. The Revolution managed to tie the game up with a long slam from Heng, and the Anacondas got two runners on base, but that went nowhere. The seventh saw Frenline Delpha regain the lead, and they never let go of the lead. Lafringe started out with a single, and Frekline helped the cause with a double. The Anacondas now had runners on second and third, and they managed to capitalize on the opportunity. Cunningpie was the one responsible for bringing in the winning run when he hit a high sac fly that allowed Lafringe to come across the plate, several seconds before the throw reached home. Travester and Minecart both got out, and the inning ended on a 4-3 lead for the Anacondas.

Albern took down the Revolution 1-2-3 in the eighth, and Yelvis was brought up in the ninth to record the save, He didn't disappoint. He got Heng to strike out on three pitches. He was not as easy, though, as she singled. Her efforts were in vain, though, as the next batter, Baoteng, took a 1-1 count. He took a heavy swing, but the ball ended up being a typical ground ball. It was fielded cleanly, and two quick throws later, the game was over, and the result was an Anaondas' win.

Albern recorded the win for Frenline Delpha, going eight innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits. He recorded 11 strikeouts and 1 walk. The loss went to Hokabo, who went eight innings as well. He gave up 16 hits, 4 runs, and he recorded eight strikeouts. Yelvis recorded a save for the Anacondas, giving up one hit and one strikeout. The Anacondas will travel to The Serbian Empire for their next series.
I don't know how long I'll be back, but I just thought I'd stop in and say hi, at least.

Polls Suggest PJP Will Keep Plurality

John McAvoy, Political Columnist, Londinium Courier

Party Constituencies PR Total +/- Vote %
Progressive Justice 20 20 40 -6 38.09
People's 16 15 31 -6 29.31
National 4 5 9 +9 8.78
Liberal Secularist 3 4 7 +0 7.36
Libertarian 3 4 7 +1 7.25
Stewardship 4 2 6 +2 6.58
Socialist Workers' 0 0 0 +0 0.92
Equality 0 0 0 +0 0.80
Democracy 0 0 0 +0 0.61
Dominonist 0 0 0 +0 0.30

Those are the latest composite polling numbers for the House of Deputies election coming up in about three weeks. As you can see, both major parties suffer significant, if not crippling, losses to their Parliamentary numbers. The party that gains the most from these losses? King Voss' Nova Anglican National Party, the right-wing party taking advantage of the furor currently surrounding immigration and foreign policy. They would make their HoD debut with nine Deputies, making them the third-largest party and representing the largest number of Deputies ever won by a minor party.

The Liberal Secularists would hold on to their seven seats, the Libertarians would gain one, and the Stewardship Party would pick up two. If we used a left/right division to determine who would hold the power in this particular House of Deputies, then the parties of the left (PJP, Stewardship, Liberal Secularists) would hold fifty-three seats and the parties of the right (PP, National, and Libertarians) would hold forty-seven seats. However, we cannot resort to such crude measures when thinking about our new government. The PJP and the Stewardship Party will continue their alliance, giving them forty-six seats. If they wanted to form a majority government, they would have to invite the Liberal Secularists to join them. In previous governments, the PJP-Stewardship alliance has ignored the Liberal Secularists or invited them to join in a confidence and supply agreement, depending on how secure their situation is. Governing as a minority government likely would not work, and the Liberal Secularists would want more than just confidence and supply; they would want a full partnership in government. That would be a shaky alliance at best, as the Liberal Secularists have long criticized both major parties for allowing too much Christian influence in government, and any disagreement on this matter could easily break apart the union.

If the three parties of the right banded together, they would hold forty-seven seats and the advantage if the PJP-Stewardship alliance did not gain the support of the Liberal Secularists. This may be an even more unlikely occurrence than the PJP-Stewardship-Liberal Secularist government. The PP and the Libertarians have long worked together, but the presence of the National Party may drive a wedge between the two parties. The National Party favors protectionism, closing the borders, and restricting individual liberties, things that the Libertarian Party would be repulsed by. The Nationals have a similar disdain for the Libertarians' non-interventionism, desire to do things like legalize soft drugs, and drastically shrink the size of the state, cutting the military and immigration at the same time. Michael Ramsey would have to do a masterful job to keep his two allies together, something he may not be capable of. If it comes down to picking just one ally, then Ramsey has a tough decision to make. Does he pick the Nationals and give himself a stronger opposition or does he gamble that they are a flash in the pan and stick with his long-time friends the Libertarians? Ramsey is ideologically closer to Voss than William Dawson, and the Libertarians would have preferred James Bradley for Party leader, so I think that the People's Party will pick the Nationals. The Libertarians would not then join the coalition of the left, but they could support them on key issues. Ramsey makes the better short-term choice, but it's one that I think will ultimately be worse in the long run and isolate him and the party.

Also of interest are four other minor parties running, expected to earn about 2.6% of the vote combined. Parties have to win at least two percent in order to earn any seats, unless they win a constituency seat, so these four are no threat. However, they do represent a diversification in Nova Anglican politics that tries to take advantage of the Electoral Reform Act.

Socialist Workers': Ideologically left-wing, the Socialist Workers' Party is affiliated with Trotskyism. They support the government in Cuba and believe that a working-class revolt is the only way to overthrow the bourgeois capitalist system that exists in Nova Anglicana and the rest of the world. While there are socialists and social democrats within the three major parties of the left, they do not represent a significant wing of the party, and so the SWP rejects any sort of alliance with them. They will get a few votes from trade unions and the poorest of the poor, but they have to get a better campaign system than hanging on street corners haranguing passers-by from their soapboxes.

Equality: Equality is, for my money, the most interesting and most relevant minor party of the four. They represent a coalition of feminists, LGBTQ activists, and minority and immigrants groups. Although all of these groups are legally equal to all other groups in Nova Anglicana, they say that there is still an unacceptable amount of discrimination in the nation. They point to the maternal aid policies that support women who choose to have children, but often essentially force them to lose their jobs, the lack of clear, simple, and comprehensive LGBTQ non-discrimination laws, and the rise of anti-immigrant sentiment. They reportedly reached out to Samantha Speer and Talia Sherwood of the PJP to switch parties and lead them, but Speer has too much ambition and Sherwood too much loyalty to defect. Their message is too anti-establishment right now to gain traction, but they could go mainstream in the future.

Democracy: This is a single-issue party that wants to transition Nova Anglicana from mixed-member proportional to full proportional representation. They view the current system as continuing to privilege the two major parties and stifle many minor parties. They got a little buzz when the country's foremost polling maven, Gordon Tate, wrote an article about them that more or less endorsed their message, but they aren't going to win any seats. Perhaps if Tate decided to run for office on their platform, they could get a seat, but the people of Nova Anglicana aren't politically engaged enough or are too committed to their own parties for Democracy to make a difference.

Dominionists: The Dominionists could charitably be described as holding "fringe" political ideas. However, "crackpots" is the word most people use to describe them. The Dominionists believe that even though Christianity already influences our government, it doesn't go far enough. They believe that Christianity and the Ten Commandments should be the basis for our government and laws. They would give the House of Bishops actual political power, institute religious tests for public office and other government jobs, and scrap the current PJP policy of secularism-light. Dominionism is, quite frankly, scary.

February 8, 1948 - New Llama City

The contract was pretty long, but Mr. Birmingham, General Manager of the New Llama Wizards, had given him a brief explanation. "You're the first Vjaal to play in the LBL, and the Wizards are glad to have you over here. This itself is the contract - three years for 2.7 million nuggets. These bits are your clauses - you can opt out after year two, but there isn't a no-trade clause. We're excited for your debut."

He signed it delicately. Hans Henriksson. He was twenty-three years old.

"I gotta warn you, though. Relations between Super-Llamaland, and the entirety of the North Islands - they've been more than a little strained." They both laughed briefly, but Birmingham had become serious again.

"They aren't rooting for you, Mr. Henriksson."
---
Pitching had been his life for quite a while.

In 1941, Hans (then just sixteen) had tried out for his hometown Bjorne af Drankasburg - being sixteen, and far too skinny to throw hard consistently without hurting himself, he was turned down. Distraught, he trained the entire summer, and then ran away from home to the Vjaal sector of the Hakifao Islands. He tried out again, and Fjords BK picked him up. Training had increased his arm strength and speed, and he'd always had pretty good control - in his first start, he pitched six scoreless innings, walking one, giving up a single hit, and striking out twelve - he started to dominate, and the word spread about the skinny seventeen-year-old with the dominant Xuanzhuan and cutter.

A pair of MDP awards later and he returned to Vjaalsburg, doing well enough there as well. And he came to New Llama for another challenge.

He couldn't have guessed how much more challenging it was.

However, there is a tie between Alastonia and Abanhfleft for third place in Group 3. Therefore:

Alastonia vs Abanhfleft @ Royal Park, St. Petrus

#16 Seed Tiebreaker Game (September 10th, 2015)

A-Sport presents: An interview with manager Ken Beale

Ken, thanks for taking the time to chat with us today.

KB: My pleasure.

The team's done pretty well to this point. What are your thoughts on the tournament so far?

I think we've done a good job thus far. Obviously, we're in a go big or go home situation now, but we've fought hard throughout the tournament. I think we've really gotten better every game. Little things here and there, but they really add up.

You mentioned the position you're in right now; the tiebreaker against Abanhfleft, and then a possible tiebreaker against Volcanoc. What are your thoughts going forward?

We have to play our game. Do what has worked for us, and do it well. Everyone needs to step up and do their jobs. If we do that, we can win.

Thoughts on your opponent, or possibly, opponents?

Well, as far as Volcanoc goes, we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Our focus right now is on Abanhfleft. They're a very good team. They played us very well in our games with them. It'll be tough, but I think by this point, each team knows what to expect from the other. Should be a good, competitive game.

Can we expect anything different in that game, as far as the team goes?

Well, like I said, the team's focus is on their individual jobs. If everyone's doing their part, playing their position well, then we'll be in good shape. We're not going to try and reinvent the wheel now. We're gonna do what's worked for us to this point.

Coach, it's always a pleasure taking to you. Good luck to you and the team.

Thank you very much.

The Second Round for Baseball Capital is in

With the conclusion of the WBC's group stage, the votes for the Baseball Capital of the Union of Ko-oren is in. In true underdog fashion, the Dragonflies snatched away first place from the Vaians ...

The captains and a random group of players of each visiting team did the same as visiting domestic captains in Round one. They ranked the cities and the stadiums on four criteria. The Banijans were the last to visit the Union, going all the way up to Talsheer, where they left their comments. As always, this included a mark for how the team arrived in the Union: how was the transport, were they assisted to the hotel, etc. Then a mark for the accomodation. That one is very subjective and just a small sample size: one hotel for three days, but it is a mental factor and a lasting impression. The facilities come next: how were sports-related things organised? Lastly is the field. On game day, was the arena up to par?

City (Visitor)
scores: first number: Ko-oren, second number: away team)

Llandy (Arondesheim)
4-2, 4-11, 10-4
The Dragonflies ended up with 2 wins against Arondesheim in the first home series in Llandy, Dragonfly Islands. The smallest venue in the smallest candidate city was up first. The running was a little underwhelming on day one, but the second and third day gave everyone what they wanted with 15 runs in the second game and another 14 on the last day. All in all it was a productive series for us with very few hiccups. The grass was in a noticably worse shape on the final day and slipping and tripping definitely was a factor in the 10 runs scored by the Dragonflies, but we won't complain. Who did complain were the Arondesheim players, ranking Llandy a clear 8 in arrival and accomodation, a 7 in facilities, but a 4 in field.

San Juan (Maklohi Vai)
2-17, 2-10, 5-2
Gradual improvement for the Union against clear favourites Maklohi Vai. A 15 run deficit, an 8 run deficit and a 3 run win - the results weren't great, but how did San Juan hold up? First of all, the Vaians' arrival wasn't as the authorities planned it. As it turns out, having the most impressive opponent go to the place where they take baseball most seriously - that is, where the fans are most vocal and... well, plain aggressive - wasn't the smartest move. But the police stood their ground, the Vaians were off to downtown San Juan and after a bad start and a worse first impression, everything turned out well for them with 27 runs in two days. It's only fair we got the edge over them on the third day. Local fans were conflicted: cuss out the Vaians for winning, or the Ko-orenites for losing? In the end, it was a mix of both and it very nearly got to a series of fights. Not that the visitors noticed anything, they were back safely in the hotel by then. That's why they gave San Juan a 5 in arrival, an 8 in accomodation, a 7 in facilities, and a 7 in field.

New Hamburg (Quebec)
5-2, 8-7, 5-8
Still not in a winning mood, though we began sharp and won the first two. Quebec is a tough foe, not just because their team is good, but mostly because they are physically located so close to us. Maybe it was a good call to put this risky game in New Hamburg, the most urban and tolerant of the five candidate cities. Many Quebecois came to Ko-oren for this series, and they all had a great time, or so we were told by local authorities. Claims that some fans were not allowed to enter were countered by the discovery of some counterfeit tickets, and in the end it all worked out. These fans were granted entry on day 3 to fill up the leftover spots that would have gone unsold anyway. That was the only downside: no game sold out completely. Was that a problem? Not really, this was probably the smoothest series of them all. And they resulted in two wins over a regional rival. 8's all around for arrival, accomodation, facilities and field.

Willowbourne (Sandberg)
5-0, 7-2, 6-2
And there's the home sweep. Three games, three victories. The third one was a doozy. 2-2 after nine innings, and it took eleven for the decider. Which turned out to be a full house homerun for four runs. Willowbourne is probably the safest choice for candidate city: inoffensive, Ko-orenite, and not an extremely high-profile opponent to boot. As expected, they got 8's all over for arrival, accomodation, facilities and field. It was a good thing the 11-inning game was the last one of the series, because the grass was in dire need of a break after that one. Something the visitors never realised: they were almost going to be put in four different hotels due to an administrative error. Anyway, they were eventually all in the same location, which probably saved a couple points for Willowbourne.

Talsheer (Banija)
10-0, 4-2, 4-3
Feelings of revenge after day one left Talsheer with bad ratings. It's not our fault that the Dragonflies sweeped them 3-0 with an unanswered ten runs at the start of the series. The results of the questionnaire were nullified, though it wasn't like Banija had any chance of surviving the group stage at this point anyway. The three wins were vital in our clinching the group on the second-last day. Talsheer had an easy job here, all things considered. The umpires had it worst, but those were not part of the package. The visitors will have to go to the international association for that one. Anyhow, three victories, Maklohi Vai won just one, and we went from a one-win deficit to a group win.

It has been far too long since Ko-oren had any decent run in the WBC leading to poor tv ratings. However. The stadiums are full again, the wins just keep pouring in and the sport is bigger than ever: this year's Baseball Capital actually is a title to be proud of. Now we're off to Saintland, awaiting the rest of the World Baseball Classic... and the quest for best baseball city in the Union.

OOC: Managed to squeeze this in in the middle of preparing for university, and of course I forgot to set the recording settings right. Sorry for that, and for being generally absent. It's been more intensive that I anticipated.

"Are you sure you have to go to work this late, Grandpa?" asked thirteen year old Jenny Goldenflow.

"Yes dear. There are bills that need to be paid, and I need to be able to put food on the table," her grandfather, Quinton Smegly.

"Well, do you have to work three different jobs to do that, Papa?"

"You don't need to worry about that, honey. I'll take care of you, and you just keep being awesome."

"Grandpa! Don't say that. You are the best guardian I could have ever wanted." blushed the girl.

"Ahh. You're so sweet. Thanks. Now, go to bed. You don't want to be tired for school tommorow."

"Good night, Grandpa," Jenny said as she headed upstairs to her room.

"Good night, sweetheart," Quinton said as he went out the door.

He was not entirely telling the truth to his grandaughter. Two jobs was enough for him to pay all the bills, especially considering the {23.50/hour he made at both of them. The third job was for a different reason. The Anacondas' baseball team was heading to Saintland for the round of 16 of the World Baseball Classic to face off against Ko-oren. The reason this is relevant information is because his granddaughter loved the national baseball teams. She always watched their games on the popular sports network, "FDSN." He was actually planning to purchase two two-way tickets to the games in Saintland. He was planning to take her to the round of sixteen games. Unfortunately, they wouldn't be able to attend any series after that, but he hoped his granddaughter would be happy. She deserved a little joy in her life after her parent's had died in a horrific car crash just seven months earlier. He hoped that this little adventure would cheer up her.

Thankfully, her parents had already purchased her a passport about 2 years before they had died. He shuddered to think about what it would cost him to get her a new passport. That wasn't much comfort though, as the tickets cost over {2,000 each. It wasn't cheap to tale the cross-dimensional aircrafts. He was glad he took that third job when he got the oppurtunity because it had allowed him to finally get enough to take his granddaughter to the game. In fact, he had already packed both of their suitcases. As soon as he got home from his job, he was waking up Jenny, and they were going to head off to Saintland. He hoped she was as excited as he was that they would get to spend some quality time together.

Kyle Hogan remembered the last time he pitched in the playoffs. It had been a complete game shutout, only two hits allowed - a masterpiece of a win where he'd simply outduelled New Llama's Neil Velasquez for the one-nil victory. It had been a huge upset to beat the heavily favored Cyclones, and it had been because of him.

The time before that? Not great.

He couldn't get the memory out of his head as he prepared himself for Game One against Schiltzberg. It was 2013 and he'd been playing for Vargas University in the deciding game five of the finals, the series with Corbin Athletic College tied at two apiece. Vargas was heavily favored this time, but Hogan had been a shutdown starter all season and most pundits completely wrote off CAC.

His first pitch was a hanging slider that Sam Kirkland smashed 377 feet over the wall to give CAC a one-nothing lead.

And then, on the mound, he realized how much the game meant to so many people. And he panicked. If he failed, he would let everyone down.

And he did, completely overthrowing to walk the next two before the barrel-chested Colin Mikkelson smashed a two-run double down the left field line. His control slipped away, as he walked the next batter and then threw a wild pitch to advance the runners to second and third. The manager seemed to panic, getting another starter up in the bullpen. Hogan, lost in fear, threw a fastball down the pipe to the next hitter and the game was seven-nil when he was taken out.

Hogan (L): 0 IP, 7 R, 7 ER, 0 K, 3 BB, 4 H, 2 HR, 36 Pitches
Kelly: 2.2 IP, 3 R, 1 ER, 2 K, 1 BB, 3 H, 0 HR, 50 Pitches
Valentin: 2.1 IP, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 K, 1 BB, 2 H, 1 HR, 40 Pitches
Hanson: 3 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 K, 1 BB, 1 H, 1 HR, 32 Pitches
Dover: 2 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 K, 0 BB, 1 H, 0 HR, 35 Pitches

A twelve to nil defeat. Crushing humiliation. As Corbin Athletic inexplicably walked off with the trophy, Kyle Hogan had left the park immediately.

Against New Llama, he'd pitched entirely out of desperation to not mess up. It'd somehow worked.

And now it would have to work again.
---
Bottom of the first, still scoreless. Daly, Fitzhugh, and Vrooman due up.

Mark Daly had been hitting well all series long - he was your typical leadoff man, who got on base and occasionally stole second and rarely did anything else. He could catch up to heat and usually kept decent timing, so it'd been emphasized that he stay inside with the sinker and try to change location.

Three deep breaths, then three more. Trabajen signaled for a sinker down and in. Hogan delivered, Daly chopping it off.

Saintland wasn't known for hot weather, but a band of sweat had begun to flow down his neck. He tried to relax. He didn't, the fastball sailing high. Shaking his arm out, he fielded the throw back and looked back. Slider down-and-away. He shook off, but Trabajen signaled for it again. And then a third time.

Slider in the dirt. Daly swung and missed by six feet - one-and-two. He'd executed his worst pitch perfectly. He could do whatever he wanted.

Fastball, ninety-six. Strike three swinging.
---
The Tigers had gotten the lead in the top of the second, Tobias Wagner staying hot by slamming a solo shot to left center. Hogan tried a first-pitch slider to the first baseman Francis Thom.

As soon as it left his hand, he winced. And watched as the ball stayed up, spinning fecklessly - Thom wound up and unleashed a ferocious swing to right-center. It carried with a thwack. Hogan turned around, gaping.

It carried all the way to the wall. Hogan felt his control slipping. Cameron stared raptly at the ball with him, hand reaching for the bullpen phone. "Warm up Hendrickson, would you? Thanks."

Owen Duffy ran back, head raised. It was dark, but he picked the ball out of the inky blackness. He stood at the wall for a second, teeth grit, and leaped. The ball fell into his glove.

He's out!

It was still one to nothing. He was still in it.
---
Six innings had passed, six innings had gone scoreless for Schiltzberg. He'd struck out five, walked one, and given up a single hit - Daly lining a single to center with two outs in the third. His fastball had more sink than usual, but it hadn't lost velocity and the opposition was foundering. The cutter had gained a few miles per hour, the changeup had some nice drop, and the slider had - with the exception of the one thrown to Thom, and another one thrown to Toups that had resulted in a nice ground-ball to Fiers.

Leading off the seventh was Jeff Fitzhugh - he'd been oh-fer-three with a pair of strikeouts and a pop out to right that Duffy had caught easily. Trabajen had gone over the general plan with him - Hogan, just at eighty-six pitches, could easily throw a complete game, and Cameron had relayed instructions to try to keep at-bats short enough to get him one.

The goal with Fitzhugh was a two-pitch at bat. A hard fastball in on the hands, a changeup outside that would fool him badly. Hogan executed perfectly, Fitzhugh simply didn't swing at either, and suddenly the count was 2-0.

Kyle reached back for a fastball. He threw it, adding some extra velocity - it flashed as ninety-seven on the radar gun. But Fitzhugh knew it would come on a 2-0 count, and he connected, shooting it into left-center. Neither Tobias Wagner nor the hilariously placed Jason Patrick could cut it off and it rolled into the gap for an easy double.

Nervous, he glanced over at the manager, who motioned to keep the ball down. A home run would tie the game, but a hit would not. And home runs would be hard to avoid with Vrooman and Thom up.

His first fastball was up and in, hitting Vrooman in the elbow. He jogged to first, bringing up Francis Thom, with runners on first and second and nobody out. A changeup away was requested. Kyle threw the change, which didn't sink at all - and Thom managed to connect, sending it flying into deep left-center.

Christ.

Kyle Hogan once again looked back, eyeing the ball that was about to give Schiltzberg a three-two lead in the seventh.

Tobias Wagner drifted back to the wall, unsteady on his feet. This was not Owen Duffy. Wagner wasn't going to rob Thom of a home run. Hogan cursed.

But although Wagner couldn't scale the wall as easily, he didn't have to. Thom had gotten under the ball a little, and Wagner caught it easily, although Vrooman and Fitzhugh both moved up ninety feet.

Manual Villegaus stepped in. Second and third, one out. Infield back. Fitzhugh was pretty fast, but the infield stayed back, knowing a two-run single would be a lot worse than a sacrifice bunt.

Kyle Hogan stared Villegaus down, wound up, and threw a perfect cutter - but Villegaus stayed with the ball and rolled it up the middle. Fitzhugh scored, Thom stopped at third. Still just one away. Saiz and Rutledge were up.

Hogan took a few deep breaths and promptly ran the count to 3-0 on Saiz. Things did not look good. He realized how important the game was for so many people.

But it strangely calmed him down. He exhaled and threw six straight swinging strikes to end the inning. Brendan Fortin was perfect in the ninth, and Tigers pulled through with a two-one victory to take the one-game advantage.

SCHILTZBERG LOSES GAME TWO... BARELY

Once again Schiltzberg falls just short of a victory against Super-Llamaland. Now down 2-0, the defending champs and the ones expected to win the series are in a deep whole that they may not be able to recover from. It is a unique feeling for the team, as none of the players have ever been eliminated from the World Baseball Classic before. Mark Daly was interviewed after the game, and disappointed he confirmed that, "Yeah, well we have never really been in this situation before in the World Baseball Classic. It is unfortunately really, because I do not really feel like we have played all that poorly so far in the series, but still we find ourselves in this hole. I can't believe it," and he wipes the sweat off of his face in frustration. Pitcher William McKey responded similarly, after pitching well but getting a no-decision. "It is frustrating to come this far and try this hard, and then only lose by one run. If we are going to lose, honestly I would rather just get blown to [crap], instead of this." The frustration shows on his face as he holds his fingers together and says, "We are this close!"

Manager Robert Evans had nothing but encouragement, as is the usual with him. He reacted to the game saying, "Hey, we are a good team! We could still come back. We have done it before. We came back against Maklohi Vai last year when everyone assumed that we were done. We have to stay motivated and we can't be done until it's done." Following the statement, he stares at the floor for a brief moment, as if in doubt.

The game itself was frustratingly close, as the game ended up only being decided by one run. The starter was William McKey. McKey, who is known for doing well, was on his game to some extent, only allowing three runs in seven full innings, while striking out only a couple and walking three. He gave up eight hits, and all three runs that scored were earned runs. The first run came in the first at bat for the home team on a solo home run to lead off the game for Super-Llamaland. Schiltzberg's inability to score left the lead to Super-Llamaland for the entirety of the game, minus a couple innings of tie ballgame. The second run for Super-Llamaland came in the fourth inning, on a two-out double that knocked in a runner who had walked earlier in the inning. The double went over the head of Mark Daly and into the gap in left-center field. The next run came off of a long solo home run in the fifth inning that sailed well over 400 feet, easily clearing the left-field wall, and making the game 3-0 Super-Llamaland. After the seventh inning, McKey was relieved with the score tied at three a piece. Richard Wilson came into the game to pitch the eighth, and struck out the first two, but then walked one batter and gave up a home run, which gave Llamaland a 5-3 lead. Schiltzberg's inability to score two or more runs in the ninth left no need for a bottom half of the ninth, and Wilson was credited with the loss.

Schiltzberg's offense was dead for the first five innings, and only three runners got hits in those five innings. Schiltzberg was down 3-0, but started to rally in the sixth inning, when Jeff Fitzhugh hit a lead-off triple, and then scored on a double from Francis Thom, making the game 3-1. They rallied again in the seventh, loading the bases, and then two runs scored when Mark Daly singled to make the game tied 3-3. The momentum was shifted in Schiltzberg's favor, up until two outs in the bottom of the eighth when Super-Llamaland rallied scoring two runs on a home run to put Schiltzberg down 5-3. Schiltzberg bounced back in the ninth, as Chris Vrooman doubled and then was driven in by Manual Villegaus who singled later in the inning, but it wasn't enough, and Schiltzberg took another loss on a one-run game.

The frustration was indescribable, and the New Schiltzbierg Sports News reporters could feel a bad vibe interviewing the players after the game. "They just weren't themselves," said reporter John Groubook after the game, "They weren't happy." Hopefully Schiltzberg will be able to bounce back from its two game deficit, and maybe be able to come back and win the series.

Although the National Party is polling at nearly 9% nationally and predicted to win nine seats in the House of Deputies, they are faring much more poorly in the provincial parliaments. They aren't predicted to win a single seat in the NAAZE or Quebec, and apparently can only manage three or fewer seats in three of the other provinces. Their only real success appears to be in New Brunswick, where they are projected to win six seats and form a governing coalition with the People's Party. There isn't much change in many of the parliaments; the PJP hold on to PEI and Newfoundland and Labrador, using the Stewardship Party in both cases, while the PP hang on to Quebec with the help of their Libertarian allies. The big changes come in the NAAZE, where three minor parties (Socialist Workers', Equality, and Democracy) each are predicted to win a PR seat. This is partially due to the NAAZE's unique voting policy; legal permanent residents can vote in provincial elections. This group makes up nearly 40% of the population of the NAAZE and swing a little more to the left than other groups. In New Brunswick, it's predicted victory for the right, as the National Party gives the PP a majority coalition. This was previously a very divided parliament, 26 for the left to 24 for the right, but the right appear poised to reverse that. In Nova Scotia, Tim McKenzie's popularity assured the PJP and its allies a majority for several years, but now that he is running for a seat in the House of Deputies, pollsters are predicting lower voter turnout and gains for the right. The PJP will hang on, but not by much.

Anaconda's Life: Deport

In an ongoing series profiling the Frenline Delpha Anacondas baseball team, reporter Chris Hemwain followed around DH Caymen Deport for an entire day. This is his report:

5:30 A.M. Deport wakes up and puts on his running shoes. He usually starts his day doing at least 2 miles at the start of every day. He takes a specific route that allows him to go past an old childhood memory, the local Ice Peak bakery known as Creamy Holes. After the run, he heads home and takes a shower.
6:30 Deport then makes himself a breakfast that usually consists of two eggs, two waffles, and a glass of orange juice. Sometimes, before a big day, he has a bowl of spaghetti instead. Deport favorite type of waffle is "Blueberry with a hint of nutmeg and a light helping of sugar-free syrup."
7:00 After breakfast, Deport heads to the private mailbox that he has at the Ice Peak postal service. He has someone screen his mail before he gets it because he usually receives a ton of letters from fans that he has sorted into a separate pile that he receives on a later date. After picking up the mail, he meets with his personal trainer to do some weight-lifting.
9:00 After an hour and a half of lifting, Deport gets in his car and drives the fifty miles it takes for him to reach the practice facilities in Sun Dome, Frenline Delpha. He usually stops to chat with kids at the ASC, an athletics complex for teens and pre-teens. He enjoys the thirty minutes or so he gets to spend with the kids. He talks to them about all the things he had to do to become a pro basebal l player. He also talks to the kids about proper nutrition and exercise. After that, he prepares himself for that days practice.
11:00 Deport arrives in Sun Dome, and he warms up about an hour before the team practice starts. He takes swings, and he has hitting coach Fread Sallis lob him a few balls in the battng cages.
12:00 P.M. Practice begins, and Deport usually spends most of it with his hitting coach. He practices his swings, and then he usually does some batting practice. Today was a special day, as the team had a mock home-run derby at the end of practice. Deport came in second, losing to Frekline by the score of 12-10.
3:00 Deport usually has a light snack at the fro-yo establishment in Sun Dome, Weather Permitting. Just to be clear, that is the name of the store. After some healthy snacking, Deport makes the drive back to Ice Peak. He often talks to his manager about deals and sponsorships on the ride home.
4:15 Deport does another hour and thirty minutes of weight lifting when he gets home from practice. He usually focuses on arms, but he does the legs for about 30 minutes each time. After that, he takes a shower, and settles down for the day. And that is a day in the life of Caymen Deport.

Top-ranked Maklohi Vai eliminated; South Yerfilag advances to first quarterfinal

Georgiana Mandelapopoweke gestuur in vir 'n vinnige 1-2-3 naby vir 'n 8,5-beurt afwerking, Suid Yerfilag voorste 5-2.

The No. 17-ranked South Yerfilag National Baseball Team made national history today by sending themselves to their first-ever nationally-competitive quarterfinal. In doing so, they eliminated the top-ranked national team participating in the WBC, Maklohi Vai (No. 1).

A special game, broadcasted only by YBC Sport and the Maklohi Vai and Saintlandian media, decided the series, which was tied 2-2 after Maklohi Vai came up from behind a 2-0 deficit. However, Jacinda van Heel pitched a near-perfect game, only conceding 2 runs at the bottom of the 7th inning. Georgiana Mandelapopoweke was sent in for a fast 1-2-3 close for an 8.5-inning finish, South Yerfilag leading 5-2.

South Yerfilag is now 22-13, coincidentally with the same WBC season win-loss record their opponent finishes with. They will face the national team of Patistan at Paulus XIV Park in St. Paulus, Saintland.

Love for the game floods social media in South Yerfilag
Staff Report

The South Yerfilag Ball Sports Association has taken to Face.me and Tweet.io for support - and fans are responding.

Support from both within and without flooded the organisation's social media pages, and mentions of the national team skyrocketed since they beat No. 1-ranked, 10-seeded Maklohi Vai in the round of 16.

The organisation declined to comment on their mass following, saying they "needed to focus on the matters at hand."
