Londinium 7s Tournament II - Signups/OOC

Postby Nova Anglicana » Tue Jul 21, 2015 10:41 am

Hello and welcome to the OOC/signup thread for the second Londinium 7s tournament. This is an NSRB sanctioned event, and the first part of a sevens tour/series. Therefore, how well you do in this tournament will affect your performance in future events of this sevens tour/series. The aim for this event will be providing a fun and interesting prelude to the next Rugby Union World Cup with a code of rugby not seen much anymore on NS Sports. For those of you not familiar with rugby sevens, here's a link to more information.

Any and all nations are welcome to participate, though signups will likely be capped at 24 nations, depending on how much interest this tournament gets. We strongly encourage new nations or nations that did not participate in the last RUWC to participate.

I will be hosting this event using the rugby union sevens function of xkoranate 0.3.3. As this is the first event in the sevens tour/series, there are no ranks to be used and RP will be your main form of gaining skill points for your team. RPs will be graded on a scale of 0-3, capped at two decimal places. Quality over quantity is preferred, but pithy RPs of a few sentences should not expected to be graded highly, nor should six paragraphs of meaningless filler. Posting a roster will be rewarded with points as well.

The format is below (schedule is IC only):

8 teams: 2 groups of 4, double round-robin (each team will play three games a day), top two from each group advance, finalists will play for the Cup, semifinal losers play for the Plate, consolation bracket winner receives Bowl, and consolation bracket 3rd place finisher receives Shield.

12 teams: 2 groups of 6, single round-robin (three games the first day and two the second), top two from each group advance, winner receives the Cup, remaining 8 teams form a consolation bracket, winner receives the Plate, consolation bracket quarterfinal losers play for the Bowl

16 teams: 4 groups of 4, single round-robin (each team will play three games a day), the top two teams in each group advance to the Cup competition. The four quarterfinal losers drop into the bracket for the Plate. The Bowl is contested by the third and fourth-place finishers in each group, while the Shield is contested by the losing quarterfinalists of the Bowl.

20 teams: 4 groups of 5, single round-robin (two games a day), the top two teams in each group advance to the Cup competition. The remaining teams will be divided into three brackets of four: the 3rd place teams will compete for the Plate, the 4th place teams for the Bowl, and the 5th place teams for the Shield.

24 teams: 4 groups of 6, single round-robin (three games the first day and two the second), the top two teams in each group advance to the Cup competition. The remaining teams will be divided into two brackets of eight: 3rd and 4th place finishers will contest the Plate, while 5th and 6th place finishers will contest the Bowl.

Consider this post a signup for Nova Anglicana and please direct any and all questions to me and I will answer them as I am able.

Nova, question for you, as I didn't see it in the OP. Will 1 RL day = 1 IC day, or will the IC day be divided up to allow for more RP between the matches like we were talking about?

i.e. 1 RL day = 1 IC match

FYI, for those new players that have never had the pleasure of playing or watching rugby sevens for real, a sevens match lasts for 15 minutes total, hence why a sevens tournament can be wrapped up in a day.

The format is below (schedule is IC only):

Hopefully this part of the OP (right under the RP section) answers your question. Three games a day or two games a day is an IC convention because, as you mentioned, sevens tournaments usually take place over a weekend. Each RL day will involve one match scorinated. Therefore, the total time of the tournament should be something like a week and a half from MD1 to the various finals.
