Rugby League World Cup XV

Welcome to Rugby League World Cup XVI, held right here in Royal Kingdom of Quebec. We have 32 nations making their push for the title, but only one will walk away the winner. Who will take the chances and be the victor in what's going to be an intense, rainy and fun-filled tournament? We'll see....

Schedule
Draw: June 23rd
MD1: June 25th (1v3, 2v4)
MD2: June 26th (1v4, 2v3)
MD3: June 27th (1v2, 3v4)

Round of 16: July 1st
Quarterfinals: July 2nd
Semifinals: July 3rd
Final and Third-Place match: July 4th

Cutoffs will be divided into two parts: From June 24th to June 28th, the cutoffs will happen in 22:00 EST (Toronto-Boston time). Afterwards, it'll happen in 21:00-0:00 Seoul time, for I'll be at my father's place in South Korea. Sorry for unfortunate gap between the Quarters and Semis, this is because I'll be on a 18-hour plane ride to Seoul and with whole time difference, I'll need some time to rest.

ROYAL KINGDOM OF QUEBEC

Transportation

To arrive in Quebec you'll likely just want to fly in to the city that you will be playing in. The 6 cities going to be hosting the tournament, with all of them possessing a major airport. If you insist on arriving via waterways, then there's nothing to worry, as all 3 holds a port able to hold most vessels.

While travelling inside country, there are main methods you can use for this. The railways here isn't as quick as it'd be with other nations(the maximum speed being 225km for the fastest train service), but they are extremely punctual/on-time, popular and frequent(one train per 30 minutes), making it a very cost-effective and attractive option. Quebec does possess a strong auto industry and cars are somewhat prevalent, so you can travel via cars if interested. Flying between those three cities are not recommended as there are not only very few flights, but also there's no need for them.

Lodging

There will be some hotels of high-calibre (at least 4 star ones) available in those cities. However, those 4 cities being medium-sized cities, there will be some issues. The same will not be guaranteed with the visiting fans as there will be mass influx of Quebecois citizens as well, to watch the games. Therefore it is recommended to make reservations 3-4 months ahead of the tournament, in order to guarantee your reservation in the hotels around the city.

If you are still in trouble of finding hotel or motel suites, there will be hotels, motels and other modes of accomodation available at your expense, on towns slightly far away from the venues(50km-100km). For more information please contact Tourism Quebec or for more specific information any tourism agency of the city/cities you'll be off to(OOC: TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec if you have any questions or so).

Weather

Royal Kingdom of Quebec is located in Temperate and Polar regions, with the cities located in varying degrees of climate zones so all 4 seasons can be experienced each year, but with different extremes. As this tournament is held during the month of June, temperatures will be either around 18-25'C in normal days for all venues but those in Attawapiskat and Iqaluit. For information about how the Summers are like in normal Summer time for them, please look at the venues information. For those visiting Attawapiskat and/or Iqaluit, it's very likely that the snowfall will be extremely frequent. This will not affect the train services, though it'll do more than enough job of freezing people up, as all of the games will be held outdoors.

Languages

There are three official languages in this nation: English, French and Korean. All 3 languages are taught in school curriculum and with great depth, causing most of the population to be at least trilingual. Additionally, in this part of the nation there are some other First Nations languages being recognised as regional languages and are used+learned to great depth in schools, so please note this when you're RPing in Quebec. Most Quebecois you'll meet are extremely polyglot and that will show with way they speak.

When it comes to linguistic status on city that you're RPing on/about, you're more than welcome to TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec about it.

Money

The national currency of Quebec is Quebecois Dollar, which is fairly expensive. The current exchange rate is $3 NS for 1 Quebecois dollar. With the nation being rich with huge economy, almost everyone will have at least has a good deal of money here. So please don't feel surprised if the products are much more expensive here than back home, excluding alcohol.

Things you'll need in your stay, prices in NS Dollars (NS$) and Quebecois Dollars (Q$)

-Hotel: NS$ 35-400, Q$12-135
-Public transport in the cities: NS$2-$5, Q$0.7-1.7
-Bus transport to different cities: NS$5-50, Q$1.7-17
-Train transport to different cities: NS$6-80, Q$2-28
-Ferry between lakes: NS$5-$12, Q$1.7-4
-Flights between cities: NS$65-150, Q$22-50
-Average cost of food: NS$12-45, Q$4-15
-Hockey tickets: NS$60-600, Q$20-200 (TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec for hockey tickets of each match, for they all vary between arenas and matches)
-Bottle of water: NS$9, Q$3 (Sale of bottled water extremely limited, with public fountains providing very low interest for the people)
-Public phone: NS$1.5 per call, Q$0.5 per call

Cuisine

Quebecois cuisine has evolved through centuries of social and political change. Originating from dominant Korean and elegant French cuisine that came with settlers, as well as materials and existing food of the First Nations living in the area, Quebecois cuisine has evolved through a complex interaction of the natural environment and different cultural trends and is the best mix of it all.

Quebecois cuisine is largely based upon rice, other diverse kinds of grains, vegetables, and meats(in this area moose and caribou, and to rare cases bears). The meals are noted for the number of side dishes (banchan) that accompany steam-cooked short-grain rice. It varies on the personal preferences but often in every meal they eat at least some form of maple syrup, Kimchi and/or bread. Commonly used ingredients include sesame oil, doenjang (fermented bean paste), soy sauce, salt, garlic, ginger, pepper flakes and gochujang (fermented red chili paste). In this part of the nation, fish are caught off the rivers and lakes to be eaten in whatever the way one prefers as well.

Ingredients and dishes vary by region to region, with many. Many regional dishes have become national, and dishes that were once regional have proliferated in different variations across the country.
Meals are regulated by cultural etiquette, which are very hard to follow for even the average Quebecois due to all the processes they take.

TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec for any questions.

Religion

Quebec is a religiously diverse country, though divided when it comes to dominant regions. In the cities where the World Cup of Hockey will be hosted, First Nations' religions are widely practiced, with Quebecois Catholic Church and Buddhism right behind. Due to these differences, all three levels of Government keeps some separation from any religions, though they still hold some influences in those levels and receive lots of funding. It is also not recommended to argue about politics or religion in Quebec, as political and religious apathy is not known....for most part.

Laws

Culturally and socially, Quebec is in bit of a mix. Another handy chart will be in place to explain some of Quebec's laws in place:

Recreational drugs: Legal, though selling them without licence can lead to up to $10,000 in fines and 5 years in jail.
Hard drugs: Illegal, with punishments up to $50,000 in fines and 15 years in jail for possession and consumption of the drugs
Prostitution: Legal, though people's attitudes about it will be very conservative in this part of the nation
Pornography: Legal, aside from child pornography(applies to any pornographic videos or anything else starring people up to 18 years of age). Possession of child pornography will land you straight in jail for 5 years, while production and distribution of it can lead to potential death sentence. So, don't try it as it's a big no-no.
Legal age for tobacco: Varies (16 in Val d'Or and Rouyn-Noranda, 19 in Churchill and Winnipeg, 18 in rest)
Legal age for alcohol: 16
Maximum BAC to drive: 0.03.
Saying the word 'Coconut': Legal

All the foreign citizens caught under the Federal and/or Provincial law will not be extradited, unless of a special order given by the Emperor, His Imperial Majesty the Jacques IX.

Host Venues

Winnipeg, provincial capital and largest city of Manitoba province, is the true regional centre and gateway to Western Quebec. The city, having a large First Nations and Guayabalense population, is hotbed for most sports. Rugby is of no exception, with Western Force games always sold out and the team constantly raking me off the draws. Winnipeg is probably the most progressive city in the nation, with Greens dominating the provincial votes for past 2 decades. Expect the crowd to be largely consisted of the youth and early adults, but also with some countrysiders as well.

Attawapiskat

Attawapiskat (/ˌætəˈwɑːpɨskæt/ Cree: ᐋᐦᑕᐙᐱᐢᑲᑐᐎ ᐃᓂᓂᐧᐊᐠ Āhtawāpiskatowi ininiwak, "People of the parting of the rocks"; unpointed: ᐊᑕᐗᐱᐢᑲᑐᐎ ᐃᓂᓂᐧᐊᐠ) is an isolated city located in the northwestern corner of Northwest, Royal Kingdom of Quebec, at the mouth of the Attawapiskat River at Guerin Bay. Attawapiskat has been a mining city for its entire existence, owing its existence to two mineral deposits that were nearby. Royal Āhtawāpiskatowi Deposit, located northwest of the city of 750,000, was the World’s largest Diamond deposit, while Northland-Denver Deposit, which is 50km away to the northeast, was the World’s largest Emerald deposit. Recently however they have been diversifying their economy into telecommunications and trades, bringing the city additional economic boom. As a result, Politics-wise, it has been a conservative and traditional area, which was shown through the dominance of Parti Quebecois in last several provincial and federal elections.

When it comes to climate, it is a pretty cold city, with the average temperature of -4'C on a Summer day. So it is wise to wear some warm clothes.

Matches Hosted: Group F, Round of Sixteen, Quarterfinals

Val d'Or

One of the great pleasures of Quebec, is the juxtaposition of cultures between the four solitudes within Canada. Through a landscape that is both virgin and scarred from nearly a century of extracting wealth from the ground, this large city of 1.85 million people is memorable and standing out on its own. The local Crees and Inuits are everywhere both in town and at the rink, and the unique, passionate Aboriginal flavour in Val-d'Or, with the city itself being located at the native land and natives being 56% of the population, holds the torch of Abitibi-Temiscamingue province as ICly Minnesota of Quebec. The city's on its rise as a winter sports mecca, as well as native-led tourism industry, of Quebec.

Matches: Group D, Round of Sixteen, Quarterfinals

Montreal

Montreal is the largest city of the Royal Kingdom of Quebec. With the population of 12 million in the area, the city is the centre of Quebec's economy, culture, commerce, finance, industry, transportation and sports. The demographics tends to be younger and more educated than the national average, on top of being more ethnically diverse.

Capacity: 57,880
City: Montreal, Montreal
Home team(s): Koreana (Kibera Super Rugby), Montreal Koreana (Q-League Elite Division)
Matches: Group A, Round of Sixteen, Semifinals

Quebec City

Quebec City is the second largest and the capital city of the nation. Compared to other cities, it is particularly a Franco-Korean (with latter more dominant) city, which makes playing in/visiting the city quite unique (think of Paris combined with Jongro quarter of Seoul). Buildings tend to be very low-rise and districts relatively divided, due to long history associated with the city that still remains in the locals, who probably lived here for almost all their lives or moved here because of government jobs or family reasons. The general demographics tend to be slightly older than national average, and they may be considered as old-timed, historic and snobby. There are certainly lots of places to visit: The city is home to 24 museums, 56 theatres and over 100 cultural institutions in place, with many artisans producing works that were in place as early as few centuries ago.

CSKA Stadium
Capacity: 134,880 (Standing room: 73,800)
City: Quebec City, Capitale-Nationale
Home team(s): Rafales de Quebec (Quebec Rugby League), CSKA Quebec (LigAnaia Calania)
Matches: Group G, Round of Sixteen, Quarterfinals

Chicoutimi

One of the nation's most ancient cities, Chicoutimi's not a force to ignore. Formed around 6 "ancient houses", it is very famous for being a centre of culture and folk traditions. A collection of nine encompassing villages, the surrounding area maintains many ancient traditions, making it the biggest living scene of ancient Quebec. People are expected to be particularly careful with their customs, and reasonable grip in Korean and French will do them way more favour than in other parts of the nations.

Capacity: 65,380
City: Chicoutimi, Saguenay
Home team(s): Chicoutimi Panthers (Quebec Rugby League), Saguenay Saints (Quebec Football League)
Matches: Group E, Round of Sixteen, Final

Saint John

Saint John is a city of 1.85 million people, making it the second largest city in the Atlantic Quebec and largest in Acadie province. Known as the Steel City due to over 200 businesses and 3 key steel corporations operating in the city, its status as global industry centre and highly-emerging creative wealth gives the area with renowned museums, medical centers, parks, research centers, libraries, a vibrantly diverse cultural district. Blessed with its location on the heart of the Fundy, Saint John's now considered the best city to live in the Maritime Quebec.

Built: 1947
Capacity: 56,000 (Standing room: 1,500)
City: Saint John, Acadie
Home teams: Saint John Sharks (Quebec Rugby League), Saint John Steelers (Quebec Football League)
Matches to be hosted: Group C, Round of Sixteen, Quarterfinals

St.John's

Located on the easternmost and largest island of Quebec, this Newfoundland city of 3.45 million people is one of the largest in the country and largest in Atlantic Quebec by far. A city of Eireanners, it's a city that's been on hard times for large part of late 1900s, but has on a strong rebound session for most of 2000s due to offshore oil development. Nowadays the demographics are lot more diverse than it once was 30 years ago, and you'll be able to mix in with any groups of Gaelic descent you prefer to be around with. The corporate aspect is starting to be stronger in some places, but for most part the locals are still very welcoming, vibrant and gentle folks.

Unlike its status as a major Quebecois city, downtown St.John's is relatively low-rise, with the heritage laws placed to restrict destruction of heritage buildings in what's the oldest settlement on the Northeastern part of the country. With this, on top of hilly terrain and steep maze of residential streets, downtown St. John's is considered to be highly beautiful, with the houses painted in bright, vibrant colours.

I am providing these rosters as a courtesy to other players on behalf of my friend, Green Jello Salad, for RP purposes. Should GJS return and post updated rosters, I will edit something else in to this post.

Roster for Green Jello Salad National Rugby League Team, The Salad Shooters.

Closest thing I could find for a rugby roster from Matimar (84733842) is Union. (Subtract 2 starters and you have a starting Thirteen.)

Rugby is the third most popular sport in Elejamie, just falling behind handball and ice hockey. Although rugby union is the more popular of the two, rugby league has a small yet loyal fanbase, especially those living inland. As such, the Elejamian Rugby Federation (ERF) has decided to send its best and its brightest from the Hanson Brews League, the top and only RL league in Elejamie. Indeed, due to their newcomer status in the tournament, Elejamie aren't aiming for a win but rather to see if they'll get through to the Round of 16.

IN THE JUNGLE
NESSELBERG, HUTANJIA

The wind just brushed the top of the trees. It didn’t reach down to the ground, the jungle canopy being a shield, keeping the climate steady, hot, and humid. Birds flitted back and forth through the top branches, finding perches among the twisting arms of the native tropical trees. A buffet of crawlers awaited them.
Snakes in turn, sought the birds out, along with frogs, spiders, salamanders and other creatures that dwelt among the lower branches. Monkeys also sought purchase in the branches and swung from vines that hung loose from the majestic branches. Somewhere, deadly, powerful panthers curled up in their dens, awaiting nightfall and prime hunting time. Spider webs glistened.

He snorted. It was as close to a laugh he would get. Everything in this nation was about spiders. It was the relied on mascot for everything patriotically Hutanjian, from school teams, elite military forces to canned beans, beer, cartoons and diapers.
Spider Scouts...That was where Hutanjia had gone wrong, trying to pin the national heritage on, and legitimize the former guerrilla fighters of the UFF that had turned on their Marxist comrades. The Spider Scouts were a corps of trackers and light fighters that lead the Republican forces to hunt down those former comrades. Some truly did it because of an ideological change of heart or a complete deflation of ideals. Some did it for the bonus and pay (In the early days of the War, United Freedom Front guerrillas were paid in loot and bloodlust alone). Some never changed at all, but became sleeper double agents to strike at their HRA (Hutanjian Republican Army) overlords at the worst possible unsuspected moments. The program still existed to this day, because even though the War was over, a lingering insurgency was not.
What had been a symbol of pride became a symbol of twice over traitors. It had nearly permanently tarnished the image of the Hutanjian Spider in people’s eyes. Nearly.

He was a Spider. One of the members of the National rugby team. They played all codes. Union, League, and Sevens. They were the most respected sports team to represent the Republic in...ever.
It was one of the most important and respected positions, but it didn’t mean much to him lately.

Only a burning desire to get healing and closure drove him now. A desire to know if this part of his life was truly a closed and locked door. If not, maybe he could seal this hole in his heart.
He needed to be here. He wanted to be here. He feared being here.

Yet here he sat on this ledge. Another smaller mossy rock as his backrest and a cooler full of Arapna beer beside him, the national brew. He had no particular love or dislike for it, but that was all that was available in the last vestige of civilization in the shanty slums of southern Vesselle before the long trek here. Two bottles of Mugko, the Hutanjian fruit liquor made from dupsa fruits lay nestled next to the cooler. Mugko packed a super wallop. He had to stock up. Both for liquid courage, and because to get alcohol around here, it had to be carted in by motorbike or donkey. It was a rare commodity that locals didn't quite share so easily, were he to even reveal his presence and be accepted.
A duffel bag by his other leg held other goodies. Some he needed, and some that others might like.

Four days.
He had four days to accomplish what he wanted. To make peace.
His mind went back to yesterday...

“Ya gunna miss ouwa last two practices before headin to Ka-bek (Quebec)?”

“I need ta do dis, Samson.”

“Ya need ta be wit ya team, Janson. Dat’s wot ya need ta do. Dis is it. Wat we train fo' all de year long.”

“I know that, but I need to go. I need to settle dis. I know it’s hard ta understand.”

“You’re de only one with emotional pain because of...family? Is dat wot ya think?”

“No...I...no. Not...I’m sorry.”

“Yeh ya are. I canna believe ye wud do dis to us, Janson.”

“I’m not doin anythin’ ta ya. I’m gunna be der.”

“We leave inna five days. Five days! Ya wanna miss de last practices? Fine. I don caya. But ya ginna be on de plane ta Ka-bek.”

“I understand.”

“I don think ya do. I don’ mean ya catch up wit us on a plane outta Vesselle. I mean you are on OUWA plane. DE plane. De one leavin’ Chastille in five days dat de team be on.”

“I will be…”

“Or don bodda showin up agin.”

“Ya can’na do dat! Only Coach can do dat.”

“Who ya think de Coach listen ta? Be der. Fideh! I dun wit ya.”

And he was. He stormed out of the room and didn’t look back. The trophy case had shaken considerably as the door was slammed shut.

Janson’s reverie was broken by rustling in the bushes to his left. He looked at the ground for where he had set aside his machete, ready for the panthers come dusk. They didn’t often mess with full grown men, but it was known to happen. His grip tightened around the haft.

Then his intruder popped out. A girl, no older than 10 years old. She had large eyes and wild hair. Her clothes were a little shabby and frayed, but not overly so. Such was jungle life. A simple dingy pink tank top and purple shorts. She carried a small little brown satchel that hung from a tattered rope. The type of satchel that was common for the folk around these parts. His folk.

Her eyes lit upon him. He didn’t think those eyes could get any wider, but they did...for just a second. Then she was looking down, concentrating on her footing again on the large, mossy and slippery rock that made up this ledge. He gently put the machete down, back in the spot it had rested before. She barely hesitated, moving along until she was only a couple meters from him. She grabbed a large frond from the selection of flora encroaching from behind them and pulled it out, snapping it off from its base. She laid the leaf on the rock and then turned and sat on it. She scooched up, hunched up her knees and put her elbows on them. then cupped her chin with her hands and gazed out towards the clearing and the village from the hidden nook, as if Janson wasn’t even beside her.

He was struck dumb, beyond curious, but all that could come out of his mouth was a slight, nearly inaudible huff.
“hew.”

18 (B) Russell Merritt - Waratine - Roonoolloo Spiders

The newly formed Union of Ko-oren mostly continues where 'just' Ko-oren left off: a defensively solid group of players. As always, the solid part doesn't necessarily come from just big, hard-hitting players, but players who understand the game and read their opponent extremely well. The forwards are still huge, the halves are intelligent and accurate and the wingers are sprinters. The centres have a good pass and a good sense of where to pop up, and they more often than not aid the fullback. The fullback, even more so than the centres, is a jack of all trades, master of only very few.

Style mod: -5

RP Permissions: no player deaths. Keep other deaths to a minimum and in context.

Ko-oren versus Elejamie was the story of Kiaran Fletcher. The agile winger was the centre of attention on multiple accounts during the first match in the Rugby League World Cup. Some good, some bad, but the bottom line is that the Union of Ko-oren won 8-0. Not a big score line, but definitely better than what happened last World Cup.

Last World Cup, Ko-oren had nothing to go on but still reached the second round, where the Dragonflies lost 40-0 to show exactly how little they had. Now, with the switch to the Union of Ko-oren, it is not just Ko-orenites on the team, but we have twenty times as many people eligible for the team. This resulted in just three Ko-orenite calls for the team: Parent, Germain and Vincent. Waratah is the main supplier to the team with five Waratine players. The leadership is still in Ko-orenite hands, so even with the influx of players from less defensive rugby nations, the overall focus hasn't shifted and the focus is still on not conceding.

Kiaran Fletcher was involved in almost all major plays. His left wing colleague Mervin Reed only put in one quarter of the total metres run of Fletcher. The right wing also made three line breaks in what could only be described as a total collapse on Elejamie's part. To their credit, none of those line breaks were scoring plays.

The first half was a fairly even show, with neither team looking to score. Ko-oren still directed the show, not allowing Elejamie to come too close to the goal line, but on the other hand Elejamie's players are to be credited for not letting the Union come too close either. The Dragonflies came close though, just once, and it was due to Paul Webber - a winger, no less - to stop the try attempt. Ryan Pritchard for Elejamie came closest to a try for his team, but was stopped four meters short before turning over the ball on sixth tackle.

Another story to take away from this match is how well Sims and Parent work together. It was a gamble to put two players together that haven't even met each other until the day the team assembled in training camp. Both are working with their respective teams to play in the Union-wide Rugby League competition which will see its maiden season later this year. Still, as it stands, Parent and Sims are both fantastic halves and they both are not afraid to let the other do his job and be the star for a while, but that is all based on mutual respect. Often Parent was the first recipient for dummy half Preston whenever the ball was rolled back from a tackle, and Sims the second recipient to open up the game. The other way around also happened, with Sims passing to Parent for him to find an open man and begin play. This actually was the basis for the single try scored this game. Ko-oren received the ball in the own in-goal area for a 100+ meter try: Gallagher, the fullback, took care of the first few metres. From there, it took the Union five tackles to reach the twenty meter line - from Elejamie's goal line. Here the referees decided AEtomir committed a foul: a high tackle on Kiaran Fletcher, his first of many decisive actions, even if he didn't have a say on this. With a new set of tackles, the Dragonflies kept attacking, and reached the goal line within a tackle, but then progress stopped. They could not find a hole in the line Elejamie put up, until the fourth tackle that is. Sims passed to Parent, passed to Bronte who tried attacking the goal line. He offloaded to Parent again before he was grounded, and now Parent saw Fletcher all the way on the sideline with no defender in sight. What followed was a spectacular 12-metre pass to the winger, who scored the easiest try in his career so far: 4-0. Sims made no mistake in the conversion for 6-0. Later in the second half, Fletcher was the subject of abuse by Agar and Broadrick, second rowers for Elejamie, and Sims then got the penalty goal in for 8-0. What made the story of Fletcher copmlete is that after a few jabs by the opponent's forwards, he lost it and got sent to the sin bin until the end of the match, but it didn't matter for Elejamie simply couldn't best the Ko-orenite line at all.

The remaining matches are against Patistan and Maltta. The former team won 15-10. And if you are wondering whether any team put up any good numbers at all: Neu Engollon scored 34, as the only team to make 30. Why would we be in bad form? From the looks of it, every team needed the first match to warm up.

The Girl

Postby Hutanjia » Fri Jun 26, 2015 8:58 am

THE JUNGLE

He stared, then glanced out and around. Was this some ruse. Was her family about? He didn’t recognize her, but it had been years since he’d been back to the village. She would have been a wee toddler when he was here, if she was even local. So that wasn’t all that strange. Her comfort level with a strange man in the jungle, peeping in on her village…that was strange. A man surrounded by his booze. And a machete. Although, it was a standard tool for any native who knew the terrain.

“Wot do ya want from me? How did ya git up heya?”

She turned to him slowly, in no concerned hurry.
“Ya in my spot.”

“Oh...Sorry. Do ya want me to move?”

“Nah. S’okay. Jus’ sayin’. I always come heya. I wasna lookin fo’ ya.”

“Oh...Ok. You live in de village long?”

“All mah life.”

“Yeh. Okay. So, wat ya name?”

“Emelita.”

“Wat? Lil Em? Namara’s girl? How old be ya now?”

“Yeh. Dat’s me. I’m 9 now.”

He reached in the cooler for one of the beers and got a grip on it. He brought it out and dug around for the opener as he spoke,
“Ya know, I used to bounce you on mah knee when ya waz jus a lil one.”

“I know, I remembah...or mebbe mama told me.”

Janson smiled as he popped the top and put the opener down.
“Yeh, I think dat might be de way it happen.”

She smiled and patted the mossy rock.
“Yeh, I think so.”

He took a sip of the beer.
“So how’s ya mama?”

“Um, she workin hard, I guess. She sad a lot. She try ta keep us all together.”

“Oh. Well…’us all’? Ya got mo’?”

“Ah have a bruddah n sistah.”

“Hnh. Dey new.” Namara wasn’t one to keep a man around...for long. She had always been a struggling single mother relying on the village to help raise her child, now children. No one in the village had ever complained. Out loud anyway.
“She a good woman.”

“Not ev’rabodee think so in de village.”

“Nah...I know, but she rilly is. She be a good woman. Ya need to hear it. I knew her well. You don’ remembah meh, but...”
“Ah know ya.”

“Ya do?”

“Ya! Yaz Janson. Fa-moos rugbeh playah. Ya ginna jus sit here and drink beer all day?”

He didn’t get into how she knew who he was. That was hard to contemplate.
“...And all nite and inta da next day. Yep. When I run outta beer, I got de Mugko…Or mebbe I switch er up.” To punctuate his point he downed the last of the beer, tipping it over to make sure. A couple drops spilled out.

“Where ya water be?”

“Um…” He looked around, knowing the answer. He hadn’t brought any. He would dehydrate quickly, not even making it through two days. While still being used to the intense humidity, unlike outsiders, that didn’t mean he could survive on alcohol alone. He hadn’t really brought much in the way of food, either. It was another sign that one part of him was sabotaging the rest of him. His Dark side, he called it. Maybe it was him being an optimist, though, hoping he would be welcomed in down there and such needs would be taken care of.
“Ah...don’ have any.”

Lil Em shook her head. “Ya bin away too long. Ah be back, Suh Janson. Ya wait here.”

He snorted. “Not goin nowhere.”

He watched as she scrambled back and through a parting in the bushes. down the back side of the rock ledge. She was small and quick. There was only a brief, faint rustling and then quiet.
He cracked open another beer as he waited.
He could glimpse a few villagers in and out, then he was rapt as he saw one he clearly knew. The younger man, in his late 20’s, rolled out near the edge in a rickety wheelchair. Even from here, Janson could see signs of rust spotted on it. The man had a bag on his lap. He wore shorts that did little to cover his whithered, disfigured legs. In stark contrast, his upper body was quite virile and chiseled. He stopped to talk to one of the elders, gesturing out to the Northeast with one of his powerful arms. The elder, whose name was Fredrikson (Janson was sure of it now) nodded then turned to head another direction. At that moment, the wheelchair bound man looked up directly towards Janson’s perch, as if he could see him. He had that familiar glare. A determined look that was often mistaken for anger.
Janson scooched back so that the horizon off his perch was only the trees. He contemplated the face for a long time.

The girl hadn’t returned yet, so he continued on with his task of clearing out the cooler. Another beer. He was starting to feel the heat and fatigue. It had been a long walk out here. His eyes shut and he was laying back his head on a wadded up shirt.
The nightmare came as it always did - sudden, rushing. That angry face, but also, very much determined. His parents were out, visiting a sick villager. Yelling, shoving. Shadows, flashes. Feelings mixed with motion. Every movement was purpose or pleading. The door would not be reached. The club was in hand. Up and down it flew in his hand. Aim low. Stop movement. Blood and screams. His eyes were open and he stared at the tree tops. It was a replay that faded more to intense feeling with every edition. It had gone from accurate recording to hazy, balled up red aggression over time, but he didn’t need to see every detail. Perhaps he was doing his best to block it out.

He sat up breathing hard and she was there. Lil Em.

“I brought ya watah.”

“Thank ya.” He took the proffered gourd greedily and sucked it down.

“I bring food, too. It’s…”

He was half listening as he cracked open another beer.

She wrinkled up her nose. “Ya gotta stop dat. Eh no good.”

“No, but it what I need now.” He sucked it down as eagerly as the water. He looked in the bag she had laid down, seeing the bits of rice and meat bundled in loose wrapped banana leaves.
“Ya too good ta a man ya barely know.”

“Ah know ya.”

She stayed a little longer and talked about the games she liked to play, how far she explored and her favorite kids in the village. No mention of school he noticed.
The sunlight filtering through the dense branches changed colors and became richer blues and purples. The evening was coming on.
“Ya need ta get back ta ya mama.”

“She won’ miss me.”

“Ya she will. Don’ say dat.”

She shook her head again.
“Ah leave ya, but ya gotta slow down.”

“Not goin nowhere.” It was becoming his mantra.

“Ya know wot I mean. Come down and ya talk ta us.”

“Mebbe in de morn. Ya head off now.”
Then he was alone with his thoughts, regretting the solitude as the night grew darker.

“I’m Hendricks Ruzaga, and you’re watching the Hutanjian News Network Sports Desk. Match Day One went well as expected for the Spiders in Quebec as they took on Logria. 28 unanswered points on the board for them against the new up and comers. They tried to put up a defense, but the Spiders, who have also been referred to as ‘Little Brown Tanks’, were on every attempt up the pitch with spot on tackles. Vladimir Sokota was the man of the match with two turnovers run in for trys. The other trys were scored by Tony Gjemeru and Harry Nepedku. The penalties and field goal were all put through the posts by our favorite kicker, Monty Apegku. Captain Samson Wakala had little to say after the match other than acknowledging that the Logrians had put up a fight and the Spiders were staying true to the basics and reading their opponents. Next match will see them face the other unranked squad of the group, Estogium. Results are expected to be about the same, if not with a wider margin. Stay tuned for more domestic sports news after the break…”

"Magda Wertauer here and you're watching the NETV 7 Sports Update. It's good to be back after a bit of an absence. This will be a quick update on the day's events in The Royal Kingdom of Quebec. I know I shouldn't have to say any more, but for our International viewers, the Goats, our national rugby league team are in the World Cup.

The first match day went off pretty much as expected, with few upsets. For the Confederacy, that's a relief. With the questionable officiating and events during the last Union Cup, it was feared we might see a repeat in the cousin sport of league by some circles. Not to worry, as Neu Engollon took down Cosumar, 34-6 with spot on calls by the Sirs. The one try scored for Cosumar was by their left center. For the Goats, Serza scored two tries, while Passant, Jagenthul and Du Plesse each brought home one, all were converted. Uzecci kicked the two penalties, the last one in the final three minutes as Cosumar's frustration and desperation was at it's peak. This was the highest scoring match of the day, with the Hutanjia-Logria match having the same margin, if not point total.

Next up for the Goats is Borixnoia, another unranked squad. It's assumed we might see the same results, but they've learned before what happens with overconfidence and letting the guard down. Watch it here on NETV 7 with highlights and player profiles on our sister station, NETV 19. Stay tuned..."

THE JUNGLE

He woke up with a startle as his peripheral registered the presence of someone else. The shape was far too large to be the girl. He tried to focus as he sat up. His head spun and little hammers pounded away at his brain. Finally, as he focused on the sitting figure, his alarm didn’t fade.

“I see ya reh-coh-nize meh.”

“How could I not recognize me own bruddah?”

“One wondahs...”

“How did ya git up heya?”

“It not be hard. Der a back way up.”

“I know, but…”

“Oh, cuz me cripplin’? I manage bruddah, despite ya handiwork. I crawl.”

Janson winced. It would have come up soon enough.
“De girl. She tell ya ahm up heya?”

He frowned, puzzled.
“Girl? Nah, we see ya from der. Jus’ not know it be ya. So I crawl up heya…”

Janson blurted it out.
“Ah be so sorry. I thot it be de right thing ta do at de time.”

Benton sighed, but didn’t address the huge issue like a wall between them. They hadn't laid eyes on each other since the incident years back. He answered with a shrug.

Janson couldn't help but ask,
“Ya still do work fo’ dem?”

“Dem? Da UFF?”

“Yeh?”

“Fideh! No. I nevah join. Ya shoulda stuk ‘round ta see. I be a good boy...well, aftah months a recov-ree.”
He shifted as he paused. His mangled legs were splayed out in an awkward way that only one who doesn’t have feeling or usage of them could manage.
“...Nah, dey nevah dun nutin’ fo’ us. It jus’ took me time ta see it. From de sidelines a’ course. I cut ties wit dem...and dey had no use fo’ a cripple lik me. Dey don’ care bout de people a Nesselberg. Nabody see it til too late.”

“I...I couldna let ya join. It woulda brot shame and trubble ta de familee...and it be certain death fo’ ya.”

“I know why, but couldna not mebbe a clubbed ma legs ta mush?”

Janson was weeping now, quietly, the tears flowing freely down his face. Benton just glared at him, not making it any easier. He would accept the contrition, but not make the process a pleasant one.

“Ah’m...so...so...sorry.”

“Sure...ya bring dat machete ta finish de job? Hack ‘em off me?”

Janson had his head in his hands as he sobbed.
“No...No...No…”
He kicked the machete away and it skittered almost to edge of the rock ledge.

Benton lightened up as he looked first at the teetering machete, then around the rest of the ledge.
“Where de food? Yaz ginna jus stay up heya and starve? Ya even drinkin’ anytin’ odda den dis? No watah?” He picked up one of the bottles of Mugko, contemplating it. He uncorked it and took a sip.
“Ah, dat’s de stuff!” He passed the bottle and Janson took a moment before leaning over to take it. They had always had this dynamic where they went from emotional bursts to normal chat within a snap.

Janson had gotten control back of his emotions. He dragged his arm across his eyes. He took the bottle and managed a chug, then wiped his mouth before answering.
“De girl brought it. Food n watah.”

“Wot girl ya talkin’ bout? Nuna de girlz in de village be comin up heya.”

“Ya, de one. Lil Em. Emelita.”

Benton drew back. He looked back out over the village and then at Janson again.
“Emelita? Namara’s girl?”

“Yeh, dat de one. She lik 9 now. She grown so much. I think she be 2 when I leave.”

“Ya bin hittin’ dis stuff hard.” He pointed to the bottle and the cooler.
Benton shook his head then.
“Ya seein’ things. She been gone for years now, Janson. She nevah saw her six bir’day. She had de fever...de malaria.”

Janson went cold. The girl was real. He had touched her hand...felt the warmth. He shook his head.
“Dat canna be.”

“It be.” Benton took the bottle back and had another swig. “Mebbe one a de girls be playin’ wit ya. Ah’ll check it out. Wot she be wearin’?”

“Pink shirt. Purple shorts. She got de wide eyes lik Namara.”

Benton stared down at the mossy rock for a couple more beats.
“Dat do sound lik de girl. Lil Em.”

“She got a bruddah and sistah she said.”

“Ya, dat’s right. Brudda die too, tho...It jus’ Namara and de lil girl.”

“Who be de daddy?”

Benton shrugged. “Ya know, it’s Namara. Coulda be me.”

Janson gave him a look.

Benton smiled,
“Nah...but ya know.”

Janson changed the topic. He was done being creeped out by ghosts.
“Wot ye be doin now?” He risked having the disabling thrown in his face again, but he would deserve it.

“I do me carvins. Ya know, de whittlin’ wit de knife. Sell em at de South’un Vesselle markets.”

“Tourists?”

“Tourists mon. Dey evrywher now. Even wit de guerrillas wit de car bombs and kidnappins. Dey still be riskin it. Cornelli-uns and Ast-ee-runs and all such. Ee-doh-mites! Dey buy up evree-tin! It great!”

“So jus’ ya carvins make a go?”

“Nah. Daddy still git de penshun checks. And de gov money ta run de village. We sell de pigs n goats, too. Same ol village.”

“Right. Same ol.”

“I gotta git back’n help wit chores n de animuls. Ya comin down?”

“Not yet.”

Benton took one last swig.
“Suit ya-self...It jus' be good ta see ya, bruddah. And I don'...hate ya. Not hate. Ma and Pa don’ hate ya. Dey hurt but de proud. Dey watch de matchuss.”

Janson wiped at his eyes. The waterworks threatened to start again.
“Rilly?"

"Yeh, in case dat holdin' ya back. Rilly. Come down."

"I think bout it. Jus not readee yet.”

“Yeh. Fideh. What be evah. See ya latah, mebbe.”

“Yeh.”

He went through the opening the ghost girl had used, slinking with his legs dragging.
Janson kept drinking the Mugko and watching the birds and monkeys play in the branches above.

“I’m Hendricks Ruzaga, and you’re watching the Hutanjian News Network Sports Desk. We are on to Match Day Two with the Spiders in Quebec.
Once again, some spectacular tackles on Estogium’s backs. The whole crew was on it this time, where we had some standout stars in the Logrian match, the glory was spread out through the whole team this time around, with everyone playing their part like a machine.

Hutanjia has top points, which a few other nations do as well at this point, with 6 being the most accrued up to now, but they do have the top goal difference at 52. Once again, the Spiders were the only squad to crack past 30 points in a match, with Uitbregen coming close at 29.

Next and final Group match is against Nassau-Hessen, and it is expected to be the toughest one yet. Stay tuned for some pre-match coverage to this channel…”

Royal Kingdom of Quebec
The hosts will go into the knockout stage coming off of a 4-0 victory over the Royal Barangay. They must have wanted a bigger scoreline, but truly big scores have been absent all tournament, and Quebec has still won their group with three victories and zero losses. Their point differential is not great, but they had a tough group and they still have the home advantage going into the Round of 16.

The Royal Barangay
We don't know what they are doing in the second round. It might just be that there aren't enough good teams in the world to justify a round of 16, but with ten points scored and four conceded, they will come up short in the next round. The defence will hold though, but their offence will come short. It's a good thing the two are tied inextricably in League, but we'd say their chances don't look good. They are coming off of a 4-0 loss to the hosts, too.

Ko-oren
Not the highest scoring team, scoring 10 points per game on average, but they are the only team on zero points conceded. The Dragonflies just finished an 8-0 win over Patistan (try, conversion, penalty goal). Call us biased, but we're tipping Ko-oren for at least a semifinal spot.

Elejamie
Their numbers are not much better than those of the Royal Barangay in the grand scheme of things, but they scored way more points and also conceded way more. They did defeat Maltta 16-6, so they have had a great way to prepare for the next game.

Neu Engollon
Whoa. Their points for and against are impressive, to say the least. Just 10 points conceded - in Ko-oren, this stat is more important than points scored, obviously - but their offence numbers (45 points) are impressive as well. For instance, they beat Cosumar - who would later go on to win a game 30-0 - 34-6, with five tries scored for Neu Engollon. The team needs to focus on converting a little bit more, because every single conversion was missed. Imagine, they could have had 40 points easily if only they managed to get three conversions between the posts. Neu Engollon will most likely make it far, with the momentum they have, and with better kicking they could go to the grand final. Great team, awful kicking.

The Sword Bloke
They have an insane record as well, but this entire group (with Neu Engollon, Cosumar and Borixonia) was high scoring to being with. They lost their third game 11-4 to Neu Engollon, but seeing as this is a pretty strong group, the Sword Bloke is our pick for second placed team to survive the Round of 16.

84733842
The numbers went undefeated in Group D, not bad for an unranked team. They won their last game 12-2 and went 46-22 overall, so we are curious to see what they can bring in the remaining stages of the tournament. They are a wildcard, and we want to see what they can bring to the table.

United States of Devonta
This team was the pick for Group D, but a MD1 loss to the numbers (6-10) made an end to that early on. The other two matches they showed why they were picked as group winners again, but so far they haven't really persuaded us as to why they should go far.

The Jeckish Union
Funny how a Union makes it far in League, but then again, Ko-oren is a Union now too even if it is not in the name. They are the only group winner to have lost a match (5-8 to Nova Pruthenia). We also think they have a male-only lineup, but we're not sure with names like Ariel, Taegan and Sequoia.

Wesleyia
This team has a few 'experimental' players, it seems: the first coach that would take an under-22 player to the World Cup for Ko-oren has yet to be born. Still, Wesleyia has a 21 year old as prop and a 19-year old as lock forward in the starting lineup and another 3 players under 22 on the bench, mainly fowards. So far that has paid off for them, we'll see what they can do in the remaining part of the World Cup.

Uitbregen
And of course the rugby giants of Uitbregen are still in this party. Fifty points scored, second bets of all teams, with a 14-8 win over the Fair Republic, and Uitbregen should be in perfect form to do what their fanbase must be demanding, and that's a World Cup win. Which is something that they have never done, despite their ranking.

New West Guiana
Looking at their numbers, they are not very well equipped to get into the final 16, but most of that is due to a 29-0 loss to Uitbregen. Now apart from this result (and how did that even happen??) they look alright looking forward to the final 16. They have an experienced head coach, in the saddle since World Cup 11 (before Ko-oren even bothered to field a team in the Rugby League World Cup), so they have that going for them.

Green Jello Squad
Groups E-H are stacked with talent more so than A-D. As evidenced by Uitbregen, Hutanjia and the GJS in one half of the World Cup. GJS might not be the first name to pop up for you when you think of scary teams, but bring their name up with any Ko-orenite and you'll get a different reaction after their 40-0 win over us in the Round of 16 last World Cup. They had a fairly easy group though, and they did what was required of them. Their first test will come in the next round.

State of Europa
Yeah... bad news for these guys. They are in the bad half of the World Cup as an unranked team with a -18 (no, not -1 or -8) point differential and just 13 points scored. They squeaked by with 8-7 and 5-2 wins, but still a 22-0 loss. Good luck next time, boys.

Hutanjia
The Spiders are looking for the three-peat, something the Dragonflies couldn't do in Union. They are looking well equipped for the task, with Vladimir Sokota putting in extra work scoring two tries from turnovers on matchday one already. Apegku is their kicker and his accuracy is incredible. As said, Hutanjia is hunting for another trophy. Then again, they did score 79 points in three matches. Ouch.

Nassau-Hessen
Their last game was a 20-0 loss to Hutanjia, and they will be thrilled to know they can't play the reigning world champions for a while. Apart from that, Nassau-Hessen has a solid team and we would like to see where their road ends. The only truly persuasive match was in round one against Estogium, the remaining two matches were just enough for them to pull through.

THE EVER ENCOMPASSING JUNGLE

He tried to cling on to thoughts while the booze tried to rob them from him. None of it made sense. Was it all getting to him? The alcohol, the heat, the stress...Could he really have hallucinated such a realistic girl, down to the frizzy bits of hair and the stains on her shirt and shorts? He had three days...No, two!...three? Get it together. He would need to get from Vesselle to Chastille to make that plane. While it was a short hop in reality, getting on the right helicopter or plane was key. It could take a day in waiting for an open flight, going from the two biggest cities in Hutanjia, separated by the channel between the two islands that made up the Republic. He might have better luck hopping on a trawler.
He wasn't going anywhere until he accomplished what he had set out to do, though.

He was sidetracking now. The ghost or The girl. His brother...The cripple. The family, the village, the jungle, the War, the guerrillas, the poor in the jungle, the rich in Chastille and Vesselle, foreigners and natives, tribes and civilization...His father trying to make sense of it all and make the village still matter on government blotters. His playing for his village, his island, his people, his country. The love of the sport. The sport that he loved. Sport and love and redemption and people and emptiness…The ghost girl. His crippled brother...

He woke up again to another visitor. He took longer to focus this time as excess continued to pare away layers of defense, but he knew more immediately who it was. It was her...The girl. The ghost. Or the imposter. Why one of these villager girls would go to such lengths though to try to fool some stranger creeping about a couple kilometers from the village was the ultimate mystery. He didn’t go in for that backwoods mysticism that the rest of them did. He’d traveled, he’d gone to school in the capital, he had read and studied and got to a point where he couldn’t readily believe in such things. Still she sat next to him and spoke:

“Ya ginna jus’ keep staring? I brought ya mo’ food n watah.”

“...Thank you.”

“Ya gotta stop de drinkin’....And starin’”

“Lil Em…”

“Emelita.”

“Emelita, what made ya find me ta talk ta me?”

“Doncha lik dat I come ta talk ta ya?”

“Sure Em, but why do ya wanna talk ta me?”

Either she didn’t hear him, or chose not to answer the question directly.
“Ya know de see ya up heya?”

“I know dat, yeh. Dey watchin. Imma watchin’ them, and dey watchin’ me.”

“Dey were scared at de start. Ya not de furs’ ta watch. Not de last. Bad men dey watch. Soljuhs watch. Dey jus' tiyed a’ de watchin’”
She was young...if she even existed to have age...but she was well aware of what she talked about. Even this close to Vesselle, people got nervous.

They were under constant threat. The war was over, but this area was still a crossroads. Hutanjian Rangers, Lancers and Rover teams (the elite of the New Edomite army), USG and other mercenaries, vigilante death squads, UFF guerrillas, Nesselbergian independence freedom fighters...They all wound their way through the bush to find their way to the Village and others around the province. The government even let other foreign, friendly governments send their elite commandos to train in the Nesselberg jungles as sort of the ultimate live fire exercises, knowing that they most often would be up against the Cardwithian and Falkasian supported marxist UFF rebels.

They all wanted information, sometimes food and water...sometimes more. Without the government checks, the village could not survive the ‘hospitality visits’ that they were often subjected to, no matter which side. His father, the Nikoro, or chief village elder, had literally worked himself to near death. It was a stressful job to keep a village alive when it mattered little to no one else whether they survived or not, unless a political point was scored, of course. Previous nikoros had never had to deal with such a magnitude of issues. Even though insurgency had been simmering for decades, it was only the past decade that things had exploded into full on warfare, threatening the daily lives of all who tried to eke out a living on the Island.

The apathetic people of Nesselberg island had been forced to choose sides or fend for themselves. They were the no man’s land, the middle ground between the Cardwiths chain and the home island of Hutanjia known as Nevorn. The top quarter of the island was occupied by the sprawling port city of Vesselle, it’s environs and suburbs nestled between farms, which were then interrupted by the abrupt commencement of thick jungle, which coated the remaining Southern three quarters of the island. It was like a natural fence existed which protected the well off Vesselois from the nasty wilds of the rest of the island.

While not considered the true, self-important elite of Nevorn Island, there existed nowhere else more patriotic, chest thumping Hutanjians than the Vesselois. It was them, not the Chastillians, that were the last bastion of democracy and capitalism holding off the Marxist hordes to the South and West. That stark border of forest between top quarter and the rest also marked a mental deviation. Those south of the jungle wall had little love for either the corrupt monarchists and subsequent Republican regime in Chastille, Nevorn than they did for the totalitarian Socialists in Noritts, East Cardwith under Doctor turned President For Life Charles Nellis. Politics had yet to help them overcome their daily obstacles or improve life in the highly impoverished villages along the jungle trails and struggling fishing hamlets along the coasts. It had given rise to the Free Nesselberg Movement in the waning days of the recent Hutanjian Civil War. FNM was an independence movement determined to throw the shackles off from either idealogical tyrants across both channels that separated Nesselberg from the rest of the archipelago. Even the FNM had a tough time convincing the common Nesselbergian to care about anything more than being left alone to live their lives, other than demonstrating that their motives had that as the ultimate goal.

Janson digressed. His dark moment and confrontation predated all that, back to when they were teens during the early days of the conflict. His younger brother had professed his loyalty to the UFF cause during a light hearted day of hijinx through the trees and utterly shit all over Janson’s good mood. He knew right away his life had changed, as it was a dangerous time to profess such loyalties. The King’s secret police, the KHS, were relentless in their hunt for UFF sympathizers as attacks on police and government officials grew. Reprisals often were broad and universal in scope and talk of whole razed villages could be certain to be more than just rumors. Then had been that fateful night when Janson felt he had to act with the most extreme measure in order to stop his brother from running off to join a UFF band. Through a strange chain of events, he fell through the cracks and avoided legal trouble, primarily due to his sudden absence and his parents explaining and rationalizing away the bizarre accident to their younger son during intense questioning.

It brought him to this moment now, and a girl that should not be haunting him. Even were she to be more than a spector, such a young child should not have any need to know such tribulations, and yet it darkened her existence as much as the generation previously. All that was too much to bear for Janson, even though he had little to do with the War and Insurgency. He still took his responsibility as an adult, foisting this mess on to the next generation.
All the thinking and regret made his head hurt, and it was only when he reached for a beer to go with his new received meal courtesy of Lil Em that he realized she was gone, as if vaporized into thin air. She had grown tired of him trying to escape his own head. He had the feeling she would be back soon enough, though.

“This is Hendricks Ruzaga, with you on the Hutanjian News Network Sports Desk. The Spiders are on to the next stage, having survived so far with the last match against the toughest possible opponent in their Group, Nassau-Hessen. Still, they were able to hold them to zero points, while putting in two tries, both converted by trusty Monty, who also used his magic foot to rack up a dazzling number of penalties and field goals. The solid wall of forwards of the Spiders must be given their credit for keeping the pressure off Apegku and stopping cold several Nassau-Hessian drives. Short and sweet, this was another textbook Group stage for the mighty Hutanjian rugby league squad.

Next, we await the match ups for the upcoming Round of 16, where they will face much stiffer competition, most of them old, familiar faces from numerous pitches across the multiverse. The reigning Champions are about to feel the fire and truly test their meddle once again. Stay tuned for more coverage…”
