April Carrion (EUR) 2 6 6Javier Pasante (EJM) 6 1 2
April Carrion, the sole Euroslavian survivor in the Volatus Open, scratched her way to victory against Javier Pasante in an all-out 'brawl'. There didn't seem to be an in-between where both players worked well against each other. It was almost as if there was a light switch associated with both players, and when one was flipped on, the other flipped off. After April lost her first set 2-6, she pulled herself together and won the next two sets in a concentrated manner, 6-1 and 6-2 to secure her spot in the Final 8 of the singles tournament. Four ranked players remain while four unranked players also remain. Unfortunately, April must go against Ardil Navsal, the number one ranked player in the current tournament. If she can manage to defeat the number one seed, her ranking would shoot up even more than it already has with the win over teammate Tammie Brown and her most recent victory over Javier Pasante.
Kandy Ho/Queen Bee Ho (EUR) 6 7 9
Athena Miladelta/Valerie Melitza (ALA) 7 6 11
Kandy Ho/Queen Bee Ho suffered a devastating defeat at the hands of Athena Miladelta/Valerie Melitza in a match that couldn't have gotten any closer. Literally. The amount of points scored between both sides could've gone either way in a matter of a couple plays. The loss in the final set left a bitter taste in the duo's mouths, considering their preparation for this match and tournament, but at the end of the day, it's more experience and more of an opportunity to continue climbing the rankings, with the hope of securing a spot in tournament play every time it comes around. The group stage is too much of a gamble, with new, solid players coming out of the wood works every single time. April Carrion is proof of that in making it as far as she has, giving Tammie Brown a run for her money as the top singles player from Euroslavia.
Joan Levitt/Deanne Smith (ETM) 7 6Yara Sofia/Alexis Mateo (EUR) 6 4
Yara Sofia/Alexis Mateo were also knocked out in a tough match against Joan Levitt/Deanne Smith. It wasn't as much of a battle as Kandy/Queen Bee's battle, as Yara and Alexis weren't able to steal a set from their opponents, but they gave it their all. This can only be a learning experience as the Euroslavian doubles teams continue to become stronger and more of a threat to those at the top of the rankings.
