Gregoryisgodistan/Ko-oren Bid for World Cup of Hockey XXVII

Gregoryisgodistan IC Information
Gregoryisgodistan is a nation located in Esportiva and ruled by Lord Almighty Gregory, who is worshiped as a deity within that nation. Gregoryisgodistan's hockey team, the Ice Slaves, advanced to the finals of World Cup of Hockey XXIV and XXV, winning the first but losing the second. They were eliminated early in the knockout stage by Havl last time out, and will be out for revenge.

Since Gregoryisgodistan has a number of unusual laws, which will be discussed more in the IC thread, all participants and fans at the World Cup of Hockey will be issued special papers certifying that they are there for that purpose. As long as they have those papers on them at all times, they will not be subject to the more extreme laws of the nation, such as the death penalty for saying "coconut" or farting. However, if they do not have said papers, they will be subject to all the laws. In any case, they will still be subject to the laws against murder, assault etc. which are punishable by death. This allows participants a chance to avoid having to RP being subject to the extreme laws if they don't want to, while still having a chance to RP it if they wish.

Ko-oren IC Information

Ko-oren is a docile archipelago in far northwestern Atlantian Oceania. Its ice hockey team (the Dragonflies, as with all national teams) reached the Round of 16 last World Cup of Hockey and managed the Quarterfinals before that, and have yet to put up a truly stellar run.

The nation is fairly tolerant and the government does not expect any problems. What might be a problem is the random switching between languages: there are five that are used commonly throughout the archipelago, however most Ko-orenites can speak about four of them. Another thing might be the preference for rail over road, and even teams can expect to get a private carriage rather than a bus to travel to venues.

Gregoryisgodistan Host Experience

Gregoryisgodistan has hosted International Baseball Slam IV, Handball World Cup 12, Baptism of Iron XVI, Baptism of iron XVII, and International Baseball Slam VIII, as well as the Almighty Ten Conference of NSCAA Basketball. He is currently hosting World Baseball Classic 33, his first major tournament hosting experience.

Ko-oren Host Experience

Ko-oren has organised the BCCC (Champions’ Cup in Baseball) from the ninth up until the seventeenth edition. Way back there has been a Ko-oren City Marathon, but other than that he only has extensive domestic newswires.

4. One-game playoff at a neutral venue if necessary to determine advancement

Goals for is omitted to avoid giving preference to certain style modifiers.

Format

The ideal format would involve a multiple of 8 (48, 56, 64, etc.) and there would be 8 groups of however many teams. The group stage will be single round robin in Gregoryisgodistan and Ko-oren. Groups A-D will be in Gregoryisgodistan, scorinated by Ko-oren, and Groups E-H will be in Ko-oren, scorinated by Gregoryisgodistan. The knockout stage will be in the same format as the NS World Cup to allow teams to stay with the same host in the same nation through the semifinals. Groups A-D will play in the knockout stage in Gregoryisgodistan through the semifinals (again scorinated by Ko-oren), while Groups E-H will play their knockout stage in Ko-oren through the semifinals (again scorinated by Gregoryisgodistan.) The Championship Series will be played at Lord Almighty Gregory Arena in Gregoryisgodistan, and scorinated by him, while the Third-Place Match will be played at Greencaster Centre in Ko-oren, scorinated by him. The exception will be if Gregoryisgodistan makes the Championship Series or Ko-oren makes the Third Place Match, in which case the other host will scorinate both.

All knockout series will be best of three, except the final, which will be best of five, and the third place playoff, which will be a single match in order to minimize rank penalties to the fourth place team, who otherwise would likely finish with a lower rank than a team eliminated earlier.

Gregoryisgodistan’s cutoff will be between 8 and 10 PM EDT (12 and 2 AM UTC the following morning.) Ko-oren’s cutoff will be between 9 and 10 PM CET (3 and 4 PM EDT).

A live draw will likely be held on IRC at a yet to be determined time and channel. More information on this will be announced after the host vote should this bid win.

Scorination

The latest version of xkoronate will be used with the formula created by Saintland/FFR (based on SQIS) that has been used for the past few tournaments. There will be no shootouts used in this tournament - overtime will be played in knockout stage games until someone scores. No overtime will be played in the group stage - games tied after regulation remain as such. Style modifiers will range from -5 to +5. RP grades will range from 0 to 3 per day based on quality, though to receive the maximum, an RP would have to be truly exceptional. In all likelihood, there will be only one or two perfect matchday scores awarded the whole tournament, if that. All bonus will be cumulative. Rosters will be graded as if they were a matchday, though because of how important they are in enabling other users to RP, they will be graded more generously than other RPs. In other words, a basic, barebones roster will earn a higher bonus than a basic, barebones RP.
