City of Zhenherribae Sports Festival

Come, friends of world sport! Come one, come all! The Sovereign Tripartite City of Zhenherribae invites the nations of the world to come to our City for a sports festival featuring the five sports that are preeminent in Zhenherribaean culture: Basketball, (team) handball, paleta goma trinquete (representing the Basque pelota family), rugby sevens, and three-sided football.

Your nation may enter any or all of the five sports. To enter a sport, you must supply the names of a certain number of players for that sport. Full-blown rosters are wonderful and count for a day of RP bonuses, but at a minimum enough athletes must be named to give your fellow participants an opportunity to RP.

Basketball entries
Minimum five named players, maximum 13.
MD1-MD3: Pool play (two pools of four teams each). Tiebreaks by H2H result then differential.
MD4: Third-place (pool runners-up), championship (pool winners) matches.
Scorination: xkoranate.

Handball entries
Minimum seven named players including designated keeper, maximum 14.
MD1-MD3: Pool play (two pools of four teams each). Tiebreaks by H2H result then differential.
MD4: Third-place (pool runners-up), championship (pool winners) matches.
Scorination: xkoranate.

Paleta goma trinquete entries
Exactly two named players. This is a singles event; both will be in the bracket.
MD1-MD3: Single elimination knockout play to 30 points.
MD4: Third-place match (MD3 losers) and championship (MD3 winners).
Scorination: xkoranate (custom module by TBI).

Rugby sevens entries
Minimum seven named players, maximum 12.
MD1-MD3: Pool play (two pools of four teams each). Tiebreaks by H2H result then differential.
MD4: Third-place (pool runners-up), championship (pool winners) matches.
Scorination: xkoranate.

Three-sided football entries
Minimum eight named players including designated keeper, maximum 16.
MD1-MD4: Pod play, all-play-all, using schedule and marks system from the description.
Scorination: This Zoho doc.

Gender and species are irrelevant to entries.

Each nation may enter in one to five sports. If a single RL player enters with more than one nation, this must be disclosed at the time of entry. There is a limit of eight teams per event (nine in three-sided football).

The deadline for entry is 0400 UTC on Sunday, April 26/2300 US Central time on Saturday, April 25. Slots not filled by the entry deadline will be filled by a range of disclosed host puppets that will not receive RP bonuses. This will ensure that the event takes place with the anticipated formats.

In=character, Kaboomlandia is a World Assembly member and abides by its resolutions. If this nation isn't in the WA, it's for practical reasons.

Commonwealth of the Smiler Nations

What is the Commonwealth of the Smiler Nations?
It is an intergovernmental organisation of 4 member states - Miley World, Pays d'en Haut, Southern Democratic States, and Prusy Krolewskie - that were mostly territories of the former Miley Empire. All four member states are "free and equal".

All the following teams will compete as Commonwealth of the Smiler Nations

Updated all entries through the Smilers into the second thread post. We have three spots left in each of basketball and rugby sevens, five spots left in each of handball and paleta goma, and six spots left in three-sided football. Still six-plus days to go for entries (or until everything fills if faster).

(Reminder: Each sport entered needs at least a minimum number of athlete names, as outlined in the OP, to help others have a base for their RPs.)

It appears that we're not getting many more for this, given that only about 18 hours remain in signups and no new teams have been added in days.

Here's the slightly-revised plan to be implemented at deadline after the last entries are known tonight:

  • Events with three nations entered (except three-sided football) will be cancelled.
  • Events with four nations entered will run with a single pool for three MDs, then a third-place and championship match on MD4.
  • Events with five nations entered will receive one host puppet to reach six.
  • Events with six nations entered will run with two pools of three for three MDs, then a third-place and championship match on MD4.
  • Events with seven nations entered will receive one host puppet to reach eight.

Note on paleta goma: If the number of competitors (remember that each nation has two) is not a power of two, first-round byes will be awarded to representatives from nations in order of entry, with host puppets coming second from last and hosts last (in other words, preferring to extend byes and their competitive advantage to our guests as a courtesy). Pairings are still by random draw each round after allowing for byes.

Notes on three-sided football: If entries stay at three, the event will be converted to an exhibition match on MD3. With four the hosts will withdraw and the other three play a single match for the cup on MD3. With five one host puppet will be added to make six. With seven or eight host puppets will be added to make nine for the regular pod schedule.

Six-team format in three-sided football: MD1, three teams at random. MD2, the other three teams. MD3, the three worst-performers on MD1/MD2. MD4, the other three teams for the cup. Performances for placement into the latter two days are ranked by most marks, then fewest goals yielded, then in favor of non-host-related nations, then lots.

In accordance with prior announcements, entry to the festival is now closed.

There are six teams each in basketball and rugby sevens. Handball and paleta goma have been canceled. The three-sided football will consist of a single match between the three entrants other than the hosts.

A schedule will go up in the next 12 hours, with MD1 scheduled for Thursday, April 30 and the following three rounds at two day intervals ending a week from Wednesday. Good luck to all!

Ross Island Explorers Basketball

Point guards
Brian Carter
Hunter Roberts

Shooting guards
William Carter
Landon Turner
Aiden Simpson

Small forwards
Dominic Powell
Nicholas Marshall
Tyler Stewart

Power forwards
Nathan Walker
Christopher Allen
Victor Richardson

Centres
Brian Wright
Eric Palmer

Head coach
David Graham

Notes
The most common lineup has the Carter twins at guard, Powell and Walker at forward, and Wright at center. The Explorers also play a three-and-two setup with Allen and Palmer as two big men down low and a three-guard perimeter of Carter, Carter, and Turner. Versatile Nicholas Marshall, who can play any position except pure centre, is the first man off the bench in either scheme.
