All That Glitters is Not Gold - Tammie Advances, Katya is Eliminated
Three singles players from Euroslavia advanced into the tournament stage: Tammie Brown, Katya Zamolodchikova, and Kenya Michaels. All three of these players earned their spot through the group stage by finishing in the top two of their respective group. The good news about two Euroslavian players going against each other is that one of them will advanced to the Round of 16. The bad news is that no matter what, one Euroslavian player was going to be eliminated minimally. It's unfortunate that Katya was knocked out of the competition, but Tammie Brown, who has struggled in the past few tournaments, took complete advantage of Katya's errors in the third set to soar to a 6-0 set win that gave Tammie the opportunity to move on. Her next opponent is Christian Lawrence, who has also played a solid tournament up to this point. Katya has quickly become a crowd favorite in Euroslavia and has impressed crowds internationally, so making it this far in itself was great for her.
Despite Tammie Brown securing a spot in the Round of 16, there was a bit of controversy in the published results, where her name was spelled wrong by the host nation. Any normal person would've simply asked for it to be corrected, but as we all know, based on any tournament that Tammie has been in, she always has to make a statement that simply confuses the entirety of the tournament, spectators and competitors alike. When asked if she took offense to the misspelling of her name, her response was "Well come on, Teletubby! Teleport us to Mars!" which had absolutely nothing to do with the issue, but all anyone could do afterwards was think "Yep, that's Tammie."
