-In group 10 we had Image Mayeso Kayden take on fellow Cenian and number 14 seed Image Ciache Nagya. Nagya started off the match very well, breaking Kayden's serve twice, enabling her to claim it. Things got a bit more tense where Kayden kept his serve straight in order to hold it, leading to a second set tie-break. At 3-all in the tie-break Nagya was able to break Kayden's serve once again in order to claim a match of 6-3, 7-6 over Kayden.

-Image Gabe Anderson took on a rather entertaining match against Image Dougie Brees of Southern Democratic States. Anderson and Brees both fought quite hard to determine who'd win the first set; after several lengthy but entertaining matches Anderson was finally able to claim the first set. Brees took revenge by watching his serve carefully, enabling him to claim the second set. Anderson seeked to finish strong as he kept hold of his service games very comfortably closing the mach of 6-4, 3-6, 6-1.

-Image Sajjad de Sauveterre took on fellow Electrumite Image Carmichael Brown in a tough 3 sets. De Sauveterre claimed the first set pretty smoothly, but not really; Brown claimed the second set pretty smoothly, but not really. The third set is where De Sauveterre found the momentum he had in the first set back in the final, allowing him to claim a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory.

-Image Rafferty Henri took on Image Alice Williams of Kaboomlandia. Henri's massive serve enabled him to claim a straight win of 6-1, 6-2.

OOC: This is IC only, and somewhat tongue in cheek.

The Brittanual Britonisean got off to a bad start for Cenian players as they found themselves on the receiving end of a bad
draw. With pots or seeding apparently not taken into consideration by the tournament organizers, 8th ranked Lonus Varalin found himself in a match against number 9 and fellow Cenian Johmer Vales, not in the round of 16, but in a group stage. Varalin played the 21-year-old Vales, winning in three sets, but Vales cried foul. "Why do I have to play Lonus," he sputtered, "my fellow seed, when Group 3 doesn't have a single seed?" Acting on his behalf, the Cenian Tennis Association filed a protest of the group draw. "The draw was not made publicly, with no opportunity for proofreading," the CTA argued in its protest, and "the draw was obviously not conducted in a manner that avoided seeds playing together. Obviously, the organizers of this tournament did not put much care into the draw." Apparently resenting the indignant language in the protest, the organizers rejected it. After further remonstrance, officials overturned their previous rejection, agreeing to replace Varalin in the group with no seeds. Vales, satisfies, played a second match, winning this time.

The next day, the same spectacle awaited Coosal Darlcheri and Gyrachor Rentos. Fellow Cenians and number 10 ranked Ellela Thotan and Ciache Nagya were placed in their group, and they upset the number 5 team by a score of 2-6, 7-5, 6-1. Again, as Vales did, Darlcheri and Rentos cried foul. In some groups, the highest seed was ranked number 19, they complained. Yet in their group, the second seed was number 10! Totally arbitrary, the CTA protested. Britonisean officials claimed that they would rectify their mistakes, but please no complaining. The CTA responded, no guarantees. We'd prefer if you do the draw right the first time. However, later investigation found that the Britonisean officials had done nothing wrong. A malfunction in the computer system that found the ranks of the players caused the problems. Hopefully, the computer system will be fixed before the next draw.0

Britonish Computer Systems fails on first day of Open 2.
Ridiculous. The Britonish Computer Systems- thought to be one of the best in The Grand British Kingdom and maybe the UCR- failed and crashed yesterday as the records of tennis players' results had to be founded again by a professional. For matches that haven't been played, these people where accidentally put in the wrong group hence why top seeds are being put in one group together hence why there were protests from the Cenian players- only Cenian players. "*sighs* I just can't believe it. The first Open held ages ago didn't go to plan because when the Singles and Men's Doubles were done, the Britonish felt that the needed a holiday and cancelled the Women's Doubles! Then, In the Original Britonish II, Ceni had to take over because the Computer Systems crashed and as soon as the first match happened in Ceni, the Computers worked again, curses, and now this is happening! It is like they don't want it to be held, and by they I mean the...the.. ATP!!! It's all their fault! CURSES!" that was the CEO of Britonish Clay Tennis, a quite disturbed man. Due to this, the Britonish have decided to change the rules if the Cenians shut their gobs and keep quiet bear with us, as weren't the best in the World. So far, the Britonish Matches has made us cringe and smile at the same time. Let's just see what is in stall for us in the next two weeks? Would the system just plunge in a system failure? or will Britonisea get through this?

Britonish Open: Southerners aren't doing really good

Singles:

Southerners aren't doing good at the Britonish Open. Jen Bean was drawn in group 3. She lost her first match 6-2 6-2, she won the second one 2-6 6-1 6-2 and lost the third match 6-4 3-6 8-6.

Star player Floyd Williams was drawn in group 6. He won his first match 4-6 7-5 6-3 and his second one 6-3 6-3.

17 years old Kendall Wimbley was drawn in group 7 and lost all three matches. He lost his first match 7-5 6-2, his second match 6-7 7-5 7-5 and his third match 6-2 4-6 7-5.

Maude Bergeron was drawn in group 9. She lost her first match 6-3 4-6 6-2 and her 2nd match 6-4 7-5.

17 years old Monica Perez was drawn in group 10. She lost her first match 6-3 6-0, won her second match 6-1 6-3 and lost her third match 6-1 6-7 6-2.

Carlos Lopez, group 12, lost his first match 6-3 7-6 and his second one 6-4 7-6.

Dougie Brees, group 14, lost his first match 6-4 3-6 6-1 and his second one 6-3 6-1

Katie Lucic, group 16, won her first match 7-6 7-6, lost the second one 6-1 2-6 6-0 and won the third one 6-3 6-4.

Doubles:

Bergeron/Lucic, group 3, lost 6-4 3-6 6-4 and 6-0 7-6.

Lopez/Alvarez, group 4, won 6-0 6-4 and lost 6-0 6-3.

Kane/Toews, group 5, lost 6-4 7-5 and won 7-5 4-6 6-3.

Jones/Stevenson, group 7, lost 6-0 7-5 and 6-4 1-6 6-2 and won 6-3 6-4.

It's a poor performance from our Southern Athletes. Only Floyd Williams and maybe Katie Lucic could make it to the round of 32. Jen Bean and Maude Bergeron had disappointing performances. In doubles, only Lopez/ Alvarez and Kane/Toews could possibly qualify for the round of 16.

Qualification day 4 @ Britonish II Tennis Highlights

17 April 2015

Singles matches

-The past few days here in the Britonisean Empire we've seen many Madesene athletes rise and fall. Today's matches for Madesu began with Image Martin Bond taking on Image Trelvin Garnet of Frenline Delpha in 3 lengthy but entertaining sets. Garnet started off the match very comfortably, making it difficult for Bond to get himself together. In the second set Bond came back with a much more determined service game, granting him a chance to stay in the match. In the final set Garnet and Bond fought furiously to determine who would finally close this difficult match; a break of serve of Bond enabled Garnet to finish off with 6-0, 2-6, 8-6.

-Image Odell Bristol in group 3 took on Image Paul Quiront of Neu Engellon. Bristol started the match rather decently as the first set turned out to be a pretty tight set for both players; Bristol manages to claim it. Quiront stepped up his game consecutively in the 2nd and 3rd set, setting a beautiful match for the crowd to see. Quiront concluded with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win.

-Image Adebowale Gilliam took on number 11 seed Image Andy Amada of Ceni. Gilliam and Amada put on quite a show fighting for the first set, with their lengthy rally points and frequent winners on each other. At 5-all in the first set Gilliam broke Amada's serve to claim it. Gilliam lost some of the momentum he had in the first set as Amada practically breezed through the second. The third set Gilliam picked up some stamina and so did Amada, only to see who can be the true last man standing. In the end Amada of Ceni finished the match with a 5-7, 6-3, 7-5 win over Gilliam.

-Image Mayeso Kayden played Image Samuel Gates of Electrum in group 10. Gates and Kayden put on a tight first set, then at 4-all Kayden breaks Gates' serve to claim the first set. Kayden continued his tactics used in the first set to the 2nd, enabling him to claim a 6-4, 6-3 win over Gates.

-Image Benjamin Shaw took on 18 year old Image Salafran Garter in group 13. Shaw demonstrated excellent play, as he won 6-3, 6-2 against Garter.

-Image Gabe Anderson was proven the underdog in the match against Image Master Larry, a local Britonish. Anderson started off quite comfortably, as he only dropped 2 games in the whole first set. Things started to get very intense in the second set, as Larry stepped up his game significantly. Even though Anderson had 6 match points when leading 6 games to 5, Larry was able to even the games, and eventually claimed the second set after a lengthy but very entertaining tie-break. The Britonish crowd went absolutely nuts after Larry won the last point in the tie-break. Anderson maintained a balanced stamina throughout the match, which eventually enabled him to claim a 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 win over Master Larry of Britonisea.

-Image Rafferty Henri added one more win to his current 3-win streak in group 16 against Image Marla Gerard of Neu Engellon. Henri practically breezed through the first set, only dropping 1 game, and busted out 6 total aces. Gerard maintained series of steady service games in the second, making it a difficult task for Henri to break service. Gerard ends up claiming the second set in a tie-break. Henri's service games is what enabled him to really dominate the court in the third set, allowing him to claim a 6-1, 6-7, 6-4 victory over Gerard.

Doubles matches

-Image Marcel Jamil and Lynton Shelley took on Image Juan Aldia and Alan Bukowski of Elejamie in group 1. In the first set the Madesene doubles players had trouble keeping up with both of their service games, allowing the Elejamieans to claim it quite comfortably. Shelley and Jamil stepped up their game in the second set pushing for a tie-break from the solid play from both sides. A few errors in service games from Jamil and Shelley would cost them their whole match, allowing Bukowski and Aldia to claim a 6-3, 7-6 win over Shelley and Jamil.

This has been a Britonish II day 4 of qualification report, brought to you by Trimus, Jonah's Creek, and Avian. I'm Levi Gando, and this is NSHQ.

Electrum Lawn Tennis Association News

Britonish Qualification Starts

It seems that no-one can escape the wrath of qualification this week as all the Electrumites were thrown into a qualification draw, mixed around some more, and spat out into qualification group. This strange and unique format saw all players, regardless of rank, being entered into qualification -- which has raised eyebrows to some in the Electrum community. Lewis Stephens, the CEO of the ELTA said that, "I think it's simply unfair that our players, who have worked hard for a high ranking have to go through some qualification process. This will wear them out, and we're going to see them not play at their peak in the final." Meanwhile, spectators have rejoiced, with an Electrumite saying that, "It's very rare to see the big guns play in qualification matches -- the tickets are cheap, and it's rare to see them go up against the newbies, that's for sure."

It should be noted that the top two of each group will advance to the next round in both competitions, singles and doubles.

In saying that, this strange format has seemed to spooked the Electrumites competing. It seems that the laws of the universe defied all expectations when you see the results for the Electrumites. In the singles, Maya Cassington is in third place, Hunter Roberts in last place (poor sod, having to play the world's best in his first few games of his debut), Mia Cassington in fourth, Greg Meares in first, Samuel Gates last, Malcolm Press in first, Deanne Smith in second, Carmichael Brown in third and Mia Cassington in fourth. With that in mind, it seems like Electrum has three potential qualifiers in the field, with the other five needing to win a lot more matches tomorrow and the day after if they want a chance to win. The top Electrumite, Mia Cassington will be under the pump as she is sitting in fourth place, and is in real danger of not winning any points at all in this competition. This might just be Malcom Press' opportunity to sneak behind the superstar from Electrum to snare top place, should he continue in this form. The group stage has indeed thrown up some surprises.

Meanwhile in the doubles, first seeds and golden pair Sonya Gredello and Rosa Levinsky are sitting in fourth place, the Cassington sisters in second, Joan Levitt and Deanne Smith in first place and Gates/Meares in joint second. This means that at this point, three of the four Electrumite pairs will advance to the next round. But what is extremely worrying is that the top seeds, Sonya Gredello and Rosa Levinsky, who should be cruising through this round, are coming in fourth place, and having lost to Miller/Chris, the Devontan pair and Jamil/Shelley from Madesu. They need to urgently win the remaining two matches, or they face a real risk of being eliminated. This is a shocking development, and is said to be caused by Rosa's ankle injury from the Hamilton International last tournament. Meanwhile, their arch-nemesis and second seeds, Elia and Fia Xal are quite obviously, cruising through their group, coming in first.

Emergency talks were seen in the Gredello/Levinsky hotel room as a lot of hurried and confused staff of the ELTA went and tried to figure out what was wrong. There's no way that they should exit in the qualification -- that has never happened before, and they shouldn't aspire to be the first. A source close to the pair have told the ELTA that, "The girls are very scared, it's never happened before. Something has gone terribly wrong, and they need to find out what has happened." Another surprise story of the tournament is Joan Levitt and Deanne Smith. Joan Levitt, who made a point in retiring from tennis, surprisingly accepted the invitation to the Britannual Open, after their dream run in Hamilton. Levitt said that, "Look, my legs might be ageing in the singles, but I have [Smith] to back me up, and it takes less energy to the doubles, so I might just stick there. I'll move aside in the singles so someone else can have a shot." Things are looking up for Joan, as she leads her group.

The Arcadian Times

The ATP Britannual Britonish Open II

Singles Tournament
Martin Bond 4 6 7
Tammie Brown 6 4 9

Tammie Brown pulled out a win from Martin Bond, qualifying her for the tournament after three straight victories. The last few tournaments haven't gone in her favor, but she's really showing some solid gameplay amongst the powerhouses that have decided to join this tournament. Hopefully she can continue to prove herself and rise through the rankings after a successful tournament appearance.

Devon Crapes 6 6
Kenya Michaels 3 4

Kenya Michaels, the highest seeding Euroslavian player, is currently in second place; however, she's already played four matches compared to the rest of the group at three. There's a solid chance that she'll have to fight to the end to secure a spot beyond the qualifying group stage. She simply needs to get her head back in the game because the talent she has seems to not have come into full bloom in the current tournament.

April Carrion did not play in the most recent game day, but she's in the middle of the pack of Group 6. Currently tied with Floyd Williams, April is going to need to pull out a truly amazing game to secure second place and move on.

Pearl 2 5
Tyrone Hisamailov 6 7

Let's face it, this tournament wasn't Pearl's time to shine. Her gameplay has struggled throughout each game. There's a rumor going around that she may have injured her left hamstring in the match versus Tyrone Hisamailov, but Pearl has made no comments to any interviewers at this time. Let's pray that she will be okay to at least finish out the rest of the tournament and that the rumor is false.

Katya Zamolodchikova 3 6 0
Jack Haleyton 6 3 6

Katya is currently holding strong at second place in group eleven. A win in the next match would secure her spot in the tournament. This young starlet has risen through the Euroslavian rankings like lightning and she's hoping that the same can be done internationally.

Kahanna Montrese is one of two Euroslavian singles players that have been officially eliminated from the possibility of advancing. Being in the same group as Katya has certainly spelled doom for her and is reminiscent of her past matches in Euroslavia tennis tournaments. The most recent Arcadian National Tournament, Kahanna was knocked out by Katya in the first round. There does seem to be an air of tension between the two any time they are around each other, despite the fact that they are both playing for Euroslavian pride on the international stage this time.

Trixie Mattel is the second of two Euroslavian singles players that have been statistically eliminated from advancement into the tournament. Trixie's elimination has been controversial in Euroslavia due to a few questionable calls by the officials, which almost started a riot in her hometown. Better luck next time, Trixie.

Tatianna 5 6 6
Marla Gerard 7 4 4

Tatianna is another Euroslavian player that is stuck in the middle of the pack. The two players above her have done well, while the two players below her are winless (and both eliminated from the tournament). She has an opportunity to take second place if she can play an incredible game. The main thing she needs to focus on is staying consistent and not allowing herself to get frustrated. Of course, it would also help if Rafferty Henri bombed the next match. At the end of the day, whether she qualifies or not, a great victory here to finish the qualification stage at 3-1 would be a good sign for her and her future.

Britannual Britonisean Open: First Round Summary, Part 1
After some first-day fiascoes, Cenians have taken to the court in confidence, but for some players, that confidence has been shattered by easy-win matches that turned into nightmares. At the Britannual Britonisean Open, the last major tournament of the clay-court season, Cenian players have encountered both easy opposition and inconceivable upsets as some Cenians must win their next match in order to qualify for the next round, while some already have their places booked.

In Group 15, Botack Andiam booked his place in the Round of 32 with four wins against an iffy qualification group. On the first match day, Gina Jeorge almost shocked the twelfth-ranked player in a second set tiebreak, having two match points on her serve. However, Andiam regained his calm to take the tiebreaker, 9-7. On the second day of qualification, Andiam again battled it out in three sets. After taking the quick first set, Andiam appeared to lose his form against Carmichael Brown as Brown bageled Andiam. In the third set, Andiam again managed a comeback. After being down a break at 4-5 with Brown serving for the match, Andiam pulled out some masterful tennis, sending a forehand winner down the corner to seal the break. He then held serve and broke again for the match, Brown's momentum apparently stopped. On day three, Andiam avoided any scares against Deanne Smith, using precise forehands and backhands to win in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. On his last match on qualification day 4, Andiam again pulled defeat out of the clutches of victory, defeating Sajjad de Sauveterre 3-6, 7-6, 6-1. Again, in the third set tiebreaker, a netted serve gave de Sauveterre match point. However, Andiam pulled out a passing shot to save match points, eventually winning 8-6. He is guaranteed to advance, as he has four wins, with other group members only having one.

In Group 13, Salafran Garter of Frenline Delpha managed to shock Johmer Vales on the fourth match day, 6-3, 3-6, 7-5, saving two match points in the tenth game before sealing the break in the last game with a lucky net-cord shot. On the first match day, Vales avoided major trouble in a clinical 6-2, 7-5 performance against Trixie Mattel, with a good combination of baseline play and play at the net. His next performance was even more clinical, defeating Benjamin Shaw 6-2, 6-0. Shaw did not have answers to Vales's powerful game. Even if Vales loses his next match, he will still advance, because Benjamin Shaw has no way of advancing ahead of Vales on goal difference.

In group 10, Ciache Nagya is also guaranteed a spot in the next round. Against Mayeso Kayden, Nagya hit too many unforced errors to her liking, but managed to overcome her errors to break Kayden's serve twice in the first set and again at the tiebreaker, winning the match with some wonderful topspin despite handing Kayden some love service games due to some egregious errors. On match day three, Nagya managed to survive against Monica Perez in three sets, dominating in the first and third sets but perhaps losing some cool in a tight second-set tiebreaker. "I wish I could just drop the second set and keep the first and third!" she quipped. On match day three, Nagya dispatched Samuel Gates in a good performance on both sides. However, Nagya came on top with a score of 6-4, 7-5, decided by a single break in each set. Nagya will play fellow leader Javier Pasante on today's match day. Of the Cenian players in this tournament, Ciache Nagya is probably the least consistent.

In Group 7, Kika Dovan has apparently struggled somewhat with her game, hitting way too many unforced errors and giving up her serve way too much. On Match Day 1, Dovan was given a scare by Laura Meyer. Meyer broke Dovan's serve in the first set after a double fault, one forehand error, and a put-away volley that Dovan somehow put into the net. Dovan recovered for a dominating performance in the second set, winning 6-1, but Meyer would not lose in the third set; Dovan managed to eke out the win, 10-8, after a Meyer forehand caught the let cord and headed into the doubles alley. Dovan also gave up a set against Kendall Wimbley, winning 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 in a close call. On the fourth match day, Dovan seemed to have left her game at the hotel, totally falling apart to home favorite Peter P Larry, 4-6, 2-6. Her serve barely landed in, and Larry took his opportunities when he had them, sending many return aces and taking advantage of Dovan errors. Dovan must defeat Greg Meares to have any hope of advancing, and hope Larry loses.

In Group 5, Elaine Foyner, world number 1, has cruised through her qualification matches, winning each in straight sets and guaranteeing a qualification spot. On match day 2, Foyner defeated Devon Crapes 7-5, 6-3, surviving despite more than usual errors in the first set. On match day 3, Foyner destroyed second seed Kenya Michaels, 6-1, 6-1, not allowing even the slightest hint of resistance in a wonderful continuation of her match-winning streak. On match day 4, Foyner dispatched Jimson Kearney, 6-2, 6-2, in a clinical baseline performance. In game 3 of the first set, Kearney attempted many passing shots against Foyner at the net, but she wouldn't let any through, holding her serve before breaking Kearney.

In Group 4, 11th-ranked Andy Amada, with his big serve and great forehands, fell to Mia Cassington, 1-6, 7-5, 4-6. Amada's serve started out wobbly in the first set as he gave it up several times. In the second set, Amada slammed forehand after forehand at Cassington, but a good part of them landed in the net until an inspired play in the 12th game gave Amada the break as a volley sealed the set. However, Cassington struck back as an uncharacteristic double fault helped Cassington to break. Two good volley winners in the 10th game were not enough to stop Cassington as she fired back a passing shot to seal the match. On qualification day 2, Amada survived a scare against Ethan Stokes, prevailing 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 after dropping the second set tiebreaker. On day three, Amada survived another scare, winning against Adebowale Gilliam of Madesu, 5-7, 6-3, 7-5, in a rust performance in the first set. However, he quickly closed the gap to win the next two and the match. Tomorrow is the last qualification day; depending on how well he does against Tyrone Partridge, the current group leader, he may qualify in first or second place, only if he wins in straight sets. If he wins in three, the outcome of the Gilliam-Cassington match would determine the second qualifier.

The remaining summaries will come after the match day today. Good luck to all Cenian players.

Qualification day 5 @ Britonish II Tennis Highlights

18 April 2015

Singles matches

-Day 5 of the Britonish II 5th day of qualification was not a good day for many players, and many of those players were Madesene. Today started off with Image Martin Bond taking on Image Tammie Brown of Euroslavia. Brown and Bond fought very diligently throughout the whole match, both demonstrated quality play through lengthy rallies and consistent winner points. The first and second set were very tight sets, and both lasted about 2 hours and 15 minutes in total. The third set was a decider set, and truly the most entertaining. It was at 7-all, Bond serving, where Brown broke and finally ended the 3 hour 23 minute match 6-4, 4-6, 9-7 over the Madesene. Unfortunately Bond does not qualify this time.

-Image Odell Bristol did not have a lot of good luck today against Cenian Image Lonus Varalin, who is also ranked number 8 in the world. Bristol kept a decent hold of his service games in the first set, which lead to a first set tie-break. A few missed shots would cost Bristol the first set. Bristol could not find his game in the second set, which allowed Varalin to claim a 7-6, 6-2 win over Bristol.

-Image Adebowale Gilliam played Image Tyrone Partridge of Vettrera. Gilliam kept a consistent hold of serve in both sets, but could not outplay the Vettreran, allowing Partridge to close with a 6-4, 6-4 win.

-Image Mayeso Kayden was defeated by Image Javier Pasante of Elejamie in group 10. Pasante kept a solid play against Kayden, and Kayden could not find his game in time to attempt to stay in the match, allowing Pasante to claim a 6-4, 6-2 win over Kayden.

-Image Ben Shaw was another Madesene upset today against Swordean Image Shop Owner. Owner practically dominated the match against Shaw, with a final score of 6-4, 6-2.

-Image Sajjad de Sauveterre played number 12 seed Image Botack Andiam of Ceni. De Sauveterre had a great start in the beginning of the match, keeping a decent hold of his service games. The second set is where Andiam took his initiative and pushed to a second set tie-break. De Sauveterre and Andiam were neck-and-neck during the tie-break, as both demonstrated entertaining winners and rallies. When players were at 8-all during the tie-break De Sauveterre mis-hit a forehand which cost him his whole second set to the Cenian. De Sauveterre lost his momentum that he maintained in the first and second sets, allowing Andiam to close with a 3-6, 7-6, 6-1 win.

Doubles matches

-Image Ariel Aubert and Jayce Wood claimed victory today over Britonish Image Lance Mance and Ricardo Toli. Toli and Mance took the first set after they broke Aubert's serve at 4-all. After that Aubert and Wood demonstrated excellent team work keeping up with the play from the Britonish players, as they concluded the match with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win, the first Madesene win today!

-Image Branson Faure and Anseleme Leon defeated Vettrerans Image Devin Richards/Frederick Hayes in group 8. The first set both sides demonstrated quality play through epic rallies, but in the end of the set Leon and Faure were able to claim it. The Madesenes continued on with their stamina onto the second set, where they were able to finally close with a 7-6, 6-3 win.

This has been a Britonish II day 5 of qualification report, brought to you by Trimus, Jonah's Creek, and Avian. I'm Levi Gando, and this is NSHQ.
