At the second major Football Assembly meeting in Santa Barbara, fans, players, coaches, managers, reporters, and beach football administrators gathered to vote on a Federal Team manager and discuss the possibility of giving her a specific mandate. Ultimately, they did: FSC FT player Maria Contraseni - lo those 20 years ago - is mandated to use the traditional FSC style, a nine-person lineup where each player is expected to excel at all positions and cycle through them as necessary. Unlike the quasi-total 'Califas Method' formation in football, this involves all players and positions including goalkeeper.

Like Fran Escovedo before her, Maria quickly and almost entirely filled the team sheet with players and staff from her championship amateur side, the better to start with chemistry from day one. Still economically devastated by war and current border skirmishes, the Federation couldn't fathom buying a custom kit and used a decades-old FSC set packed up in a Football Assembly warehouse in Long Beach.

Imperial Commonwealth of Eastfield Lodge Beach Soccer Team

About EL: Eastfield Lodge is a pretty glorious nation, somewhat situated in Northern Rushmore - in reality, there's a very small island (acting as a transport hub) which hosts a portal linking the NSverse to the Whoniverse (the universe of Doctor Who, the TV programme), so while humans are the overwhelming majority of the populace here, don't be surprised to find several other races here. Some more historical information can be found here, in lieu of a factbook (NB: some of the information there is inaccurate, TG me for clarification). However, in the interests of fairness, we have decided to send an all human team to the Cup.

Due to the relatively conservative Islamic nature of Eastfield Lodge, the most devout nation in Rushmore (which, by the way, contains Saintland...), women tend not to participate in beach soccer much, if at all, in public, and no good female player wished to play in this tournament, so we sent an all male team to defend our fifth placed ranking.

Manager: Angus Doyle
Age: 31; a pretty prolific domestic beach soccer player himself during his youth, his 'career' was ended very early on through injury, which meant that while he could coach and train others, his competitive playing days were over.

Starting Team:

GK: Hazm Zaidi
Age: 21. A pretty great keeper, his ability to read where and when shots would be placed meant that he rarely conceded more than 3 goals a game in the local leagues, but whether that talent translates onto the international level remains to be seen. Moderate 5'10" height, but with quick reflexes and slim but strong build so he can match his thinking in terms of pulling off saves.

DF: Rayder Bryant
Age: 27. No nonsense sole defender, with a unique adeptness at legal last ditch tackles; in other words, until the shot has left your foot, never count this guy out because he can nick the ball from you out of seemingly nowhere. Strong as well, so he can hold his own against the more physical players as well.

MF: Fabian Hume (C)
Age: 23. The captain of the team and a very technically gifted player. Also a football freestyle artist, cornering him with the ball is a tall order, and an eye for goals and assists means that he has a target for all his technique. His chemistry of Suleman can reach almost telepathic and unconscious levels, with some passes not even sighted but passed on trust.

MF: Erasmus Suleman
Age: 29. A simpler and more direct player than Hume, Suleman also has the benefit of being his team-mate in the beaches around Port Lodgertia. He's at his best when just driving towards the opposition net, and can move quickly and with extreme agility, squeezing past most tackles to get where he needs to be. Also willing to help out defensively, and his speed has blocked more than a few shots in his time.

FW: Eoin Saber
Age: 19. Eoin is a goal-poacher at heart, always being the first to reach any spilled ball, and especially in the air with speed and height of his jumps; as should be pretty obvious, he's also pretty dangerous at headers. Slightly selfish, he sometimes dispossesses static team-mates near the goal and immediately takes the shot, before the keeper can react to the play.

Substitutes (age in brackets)

GK: Monty Wilks (25)
DF: Orlin Hashim (26)
DF: Nickolas Leveque (18)
MF: Bjorn Andrews (20)
MF: Carel Rios (32)
FW: Kendall Holdsworth (24)
FW: Tiago Churchill (29)

Permissions:
Goals - Fine. Even godmodded ones (please don't overuse it).
Cards - Yellows are fine, reds only if your team gets at least one less red.
Weather - Realistic weather please, although I don't mind a little bit of outlandish weather if really necessary (I'll complain by TG if I don't like it :p )
Injuries - Minor injuries only (hampered or out for the same match), I reserve the right for longer injuries.
Other events - anything that'll result in injury, death and/or destruction, please consult with me (and adhere to the principles in my regional number ones - I do use them for RP purposes). Otherwise, knock yourself out (especially if that knock out allows me to win).

ABANHFLEFT VICTORIOUS OVER IESUSISGODISTAN IN NAIL-BITING OPENING TO BEACH CUP XI CAMPAIGN

By Ted Redford

BASETON, FREE REPUBLICS - For many Fleftics, beach football is kind of like foreign cuisine: everyone says it's good and that one should try it, but one would very much rather have what he or she knows very well. Beach football was only being played by people who had the skills to play, but not the patience to play the whole 90 minutes. The sport had only been really popular in some of the warmer areas of Abanhfleft, such as Habalanbacushe Province and the colony of Trendstart, and the Myleishi Plateau area in Myleikaf Province. But all this could be changing soon, because Abanhfleft has just won its first ever international beach football match against Iesusisgodistan in the 11th edition of the Beach Cup.

Baseton's Olympic Stadium, which was constructed when the city hosted the X Winter Olympiad, has a stated seating capacity of 107,432, and it looked like every one of those seats had been occupied by a Fleftic. The place was thundering with applause for the Fleftic national football team, which was making its first appearance in the Beach Cup this year. Their opponents for this game, Iesusisgodistan, is also a debutante in this tournament, and both teams were raring to show that they could compete with the best of the best in beach football.

The match was a fast-paced affair, as all beach football matches tend to be. Abanhfleft drew first blood when Rafael Byrd scored the first goal in the 5th minute of the first period. Iesusisgodistani player Logan Morgan equalized in the 11th minute. Abanhfleft scored two consecutive goals in the second period, courtesy of Isaac Gonzalez and Alfonso Mumford. Iesusisgodistan quickly retaliated with two goals from Zane Maitland and Luca Kirwan, putting their country back on the level with Abanhfleft once again. In the third period, Iesusisgodistan finally managed to take the lead courtesy of Ryder Cannan, but Ji Moon was on hand to put Abanhfleft back level with the Iesusisgodistanis, sending the game to extra time. And then, when it looked like the match would have to go to penalties to decide the winner, Bianca Fleming managed to slot the ball into the low corner, and the crowd erupted in celebration once the final whistle had been blown. Abanhfleft had won a game in the Beach Cup, and everyone is sure that this is going to get the sport more noticed in the country.

"This is a landmark moment for us, for our country, and for our sport," team captain Dean Stephens told reporters in the post-match press conference. "We know that people are already paying attention to us following our victory, and we hope that that's going to spark interest in beach football in the country."

Abanhfleft's next opponent will be Star United States, a team that has been a veteran of this tournament. The match will be broadcast live on CNN Sports Channel 2 at 4 AM.

ABANHFLEFT FALLS TO STAR UNITED STATES IN SECOND EXTRA-TIME MATCH IN BEACH CUP XI

By Ted Redford

BASETON, FREE REPUBLICS - Perhaps it was inevitable that Abanhfleft would be defeated by Star United States in the Beach Cup, but surely a lot of Fleftic fans were expecting for an upset of some kind.

An upset didn't look like it would be in the books as Star United States quickly established dominance on the sand from the start of the game. Eric Poole and Brian Porter opened the scoring in quick succession in the opening minutes of the first period, and the Fleftics were hard-pressed to find the back of the net. But find it they eventually did, with Isaac Gonzalez scoring the Democratic Republic's first goal in the middle of the second period, and Bianca Fleming scoring the equalizer just before the second period closed. Levi Perry got one more beyond Dean Stephens to open up the third period, but Ji Moon was quick to reply, and the Fleftic defense quickly locked down, hoping that extra time would be a saving grace for them, just like it had been for the game against Iesusisgodistan.

Alas, it was not to be. Porter and Shawn Aust scored two goals in quick succession, and this time Alfonso Mumford could only get one beyond their keeper, and every other chance by a Fleftic player was saved, and Abanhfleft eventually lost.

"At least we gave our opponents a good fight," Stephens said in the post-game press conference. "Nobody probably had expected us to hold Star United States to extra time. Sure, we were defeated, but at least we showed them that if this sport had no such thing as extra time in regular games, we would have drawn with each other."

Abanhfleft's next opponent is the CSSR, another newcomer like Abanhfleft. The match, as always, will be broadcast live on CNN Sports Channel 2 at 4 AM.

The Sword Bloke 2–5 Alice Bay
Brighton 8' 26' | Verlaine 6' 18' Rajatowski 14' 31' Albridge 21'

THE BAY BUGLE

THE DREAM IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE! ALICE BAY WINS THE FIRST!

In the second fixture of Beach Cup, Alice Bay achieves its first win, thanks to Jean-Luc Verlaine. With Montagny being saved for next game, the Association Football player was one of the starters, and made the first goal of match, with a shoot that passed a little left of the hands of Braydon Tellis. Soon, The Sword Bloke answered with Brighton, and the first period ended 1-1. In the second period, the Bayers have its lead consolidated with two goals from Rajatowski and Verlaine. At 21', noticing bad positioning of Tellis, the Bayer goalkeeper Albridge shoot from 3/4 and for his own surprise, scored the goal. The 2nd period ended 4-1, but after the GK's goal, The Sword Block modified its play, and Brighton scored again, at 26'. From then to end, the match turned on a test for cardiopaths. Alice Bay hitting the post, The Sword Bloke shooting and Albridge making miracles to defend. At 31, Rajatowski ran with the ball in the area and was stopped by Solomon Jackson. 9-meters shot and scored by himself. Final score, 2-5 to Alice Bay.

ABANHFLEFT SURVIVES CSSR IN REGULATION TO STAY IN THIRD PLACE

By Ted Redford

BASETON, FREE REPUBLICS - It was a very close game, but Abanhfleft finally managed to escape the CSSR courtesy of a last-minute goal from Alfonso Mumford.

The CSSR had sent a team to the tournament, but apparently their kit providers had failed to write their names on their shirts, and therefore the Fleftic national team had to rely on their kit numbers to know who they were supposed to mark and defend. This match was fast-paced and high-scoring, with both teams slotting in goals almost as fast as it could be brought into play. The lead shifted as much as five times throughout the match, with the pattern seeming to be CSSR scoring to take the lead, and then Abanhfleft equalizing by as little as just ten seconds after the CSSR scored their goal.

Rafael Byrd scored twice; Isaac Gonzalez, Ji Moon, and Bianca Fleming scored one goal each, and then, with both teams deadlocked in the closing minutes of the third period, and extra time looming over the horizon, Alfonso Mumford managed to get away from his defender and headed in a pass from Moon to give Abanhfleft the lead for the first time in the game, and Abanhfleft's second victory in the Beach Cup once the final whistle had been blown.

"This match will surely go down in Fleftic beach football history as one of the best nailbiters," captain Dean Stephens said in the post-game press conference. "Just a few more games like this, and we'll also be making history by making it into the knockout stages in just our first stab at this."

Abanhfleft's next opponent will be Mangolana, the highest-ranked team in our group, but this will be on the day after tomorrow, as tomorrow is a bye day for the team. Mangolana is currently leading everyone in the group, and while the odds of a Fleftic upset aren't great, there is no shortage of bombastic fans who claim that the national beach football team can go and win against Mangolana.

Alice Bay 7–9 Maretta

THE IMPERA HERALD

ALICE BAY LOSES AND SAY GOODBYE TO THE BEACH CUP

In the fourth fixture of Beach Cup, Alice Bay played Maretta and loss, 7-9, saying goodbye to the tournament. The team was excited and played forward all time. The Alice Bay Football Federation is satisfied with the result. Maritsa Dainelis, president of Alice Bay Sports Association, congratulated the bravery of the team.

-Is enough for a first international competition. And these guys were very, very good. They fought to the end, without fear, without giving up. lost in the technical aspect, but this improves with time. Our Plan is to popularize football, but think of it in the long term, the idea is to keep working and appearing to have a good team in four or five cycles. Being a small country, we do not have enough structure to the big leagues of Association Football. We are a people who like the beach, then we believe that Beach Soccer is a sport where we have future.

The Story of Life

life’s like a page
where the Author slowly writes
the story of life
He includes laughter and joy
as well as tears and sorrow
and as the story continues
no one wants it to end
but one day, an unexpected day
the Author stops writing
the story reached an end
yes, it may leave sorrow
yes, it may leave tears
but, it also leaves memories
of happiness and smiles
and the stories that remain
record this ending
and the pen will continue to mark
the story of life
and although there is sorrow here
there is a feast at the home
home of the One who writes the story
the story of life

Forever
a really short story

The snow storm raged on. Peaceful, she watched as the snow flakes hit the ground. Higher and higher the snow accumulated. The skies placed a white, and untouched blanket onto the earth. She could have stayed there watching it fall forever. She watched from the inside as she swayed herself in the rocking chair her dad had made years ago. He had made two rocking chairs, one for him, and one for her. They would sit together for hours by that window, just watching.

The first time they sat together by the window, it was snowing. It snowed for hours, and they sat there for hours watching it snow. Maybe that is what she misses the most. She continued to sway herself, forever and ever, until the memories did not allow her to do so. She wouldn't sit in the chair as long as she did so when her dad was still around. She had lost the glare in here eye since her dad left.

Her dad left them a while back. He was now in a better place. Her mom was usually never around since she had to work more shifts in order to make sure everything was paid. She became the forgotten one. Her mom, of coursed, loved her very much, yet she was not around. She was quiet in school as she was rather shy.

She sat there, staring at the falling snow, thinking and remembering. She thought of the smiles and laughter that were shared by that window. That was what she missed. She didn't miss the snow, or the rocking - she missed the smiles and laughter. She missed the stories that he would tell right there by the window.

She won't forget those memories because those were the most. Forever and ever she will remember. She will remember like if he had never left.

Following an undefeated Group Stage campaign, the Mangolana Beach Gators defeated Mapletish by a 7-4 scoreline. Mangolana is now set for a face off against the Equestrian States. With the ponies being the 12th ranked team in the world, Mangolana will have the advantage per say.

If the rankings are any sign for how this match will progress, Mangolana should find their way into the Semi-finals. However, Mangolana still need to defeat the ponies, who will be no slouches.

Leading goalscorer Felicity Myers will look to continue her strong scoring run and lead Mangolana back to Beach Cup glory.

#1 now down and out

Eastfield Lodge through to the Quarter-Finals

Now there's a turn-up for the books. Having lost to the powerhouses of old Sarrbia in the group stages, it was always going to be a nervy draw as a second placed team. And lo and behold our reward was to play the current number one ranked team in the multiverse, Filopines, the team with the best defensive record in the group stages, only conceding 7 goals in the 4 games, compared to our 23 in 4. On the plus side, we have scored 30 in that time compared to their 21, which we'd use as a semblance of achieving parity in the run-up.

With Filopines failing to release a roster, we had no idea who we were playing against, but all we can say is that they were playing a defensive 2-1-1 formation, and that they were all human. For the purposes of this article, #1 is in goal, #2 and 3 are defenders, 4 is the midfielder and 5 is the attacker. Eastfield Lodge played their starting line-up, that is Zaidi in goal, Bryant in defence, Hume and Suleman in mid and Saber up front, having recovered from the injury he picked up in the last group stage match, so we're thankful for that bye day.

The game started off quite slowly as the defensive Filopine team took the ball, passing and probing, but unable to find a way through for around 7 minutes, before a clumsy miscontrol by #3 allowed Saber a pop at goal, and he duly smashed it home past the flattened goalie for his twelfth of the tournament. The opened the game up, and very quickly Eastfield Lodge got their second, a shot block propelled the ball up the other end and chased down by Suleman, who duly centred the ball for Hume, and although the ball went behind, he managed to pivot around and connect with the ball on the volley for his eighth of the campaign. 9 minutes gone and it was 2-0 to the underdogs. Filopines did get a goal back by the end of the first period, when #4 managed deflect his own teammate's shot past Zaidi, but the period ended 3-1 as Saber scored his second of the match from the penalty spot following a handling of the ball.

The second period started at a much faster pace, with Filopines coming out much more aggressive; to be expected given the two-goal deficit. They turned up the quality, and it showed with some beautiful plays being made, one such being in the 14th minute with #2 laying the ball off the #3, who then plays the ball along to #4, lifting the ball above Suleman's tackle to the advancing #2, who then centres the ball to #5. Instead of heading it to straight to where Zaidi would have been, he played it back across for #4 to slot home before Zaidi could react. The equalizer came from the penalty spot a minute later courtesy of #5, and Suleman was shown a yellow card for his troubles as well, which just added a 2 minute injury to the insult. However, Eastfield Lodge managed to limit the damage to the single goal, headed in from a corner by #3 to make it 4-3 to Filopines. Hume managed to limit the damage after flicking the ball over the defender's head at the touchline and heading the ball past the keeper to make it 4-4 going into the third period.

The third period was just pure chaos. It started at near enough the same intensity as the last period finished, with several early chances going marginally wide before Filopines re-took the lead through #5's header from a corner three minutes in. Soon after, the game just fell apart. First of all, #5 was shown a yellow after he fouled Hume in retaliation for an earlier tackle he thought was foul-worthy. From the resulting free kick, Saber's head was the first to the crossed ball, completing his hat-trick and making it 5-5 in the process. His celebration didn't go down too well though, as #2 lost it and body-checked him moments after the restart, earning him a yellow card and reducing Filopines to two outfield players for a minute and a half. And capitalise on that advantage Eastfield Lodge did. Suleman scored his first goal of the match from the resulting free kick, pouncing on the rebound from the spilled shot. Saber scored his fourth in the same 30th minute, after Suleman's run went past both defenders and found Saber in acres of space to slot home to his heart's content. Suleman then scored his second to make it 8-5, this time dispossessing #4 himself and just running with the ball all the way to the opposition net at the 31st minute. Parity restored player-wise, the game died down as Eastfield Lodge defended the lead, and the Filopine players played with a very crushed morale. The hammer blow was dealt by Bryant, who outmuscled his marker to head home the final corner of the match.

9-5. It was a somewhat lucky result, given the two-man advantage that we had in the third period. But Filopines were pretty poor during that period anyways, and it looked like the match would have gone our way anyways, even if by a single goal. But the result is the result, and it means that Eastfield Lodge move on to the quarter-finals, to play Estenia. Ranked 54th in the world, they had the same 3-1 record as us in the group stage, with their loss being to the hosts the Holy Republican Empire (who topped the table as a result of the H2H). However, we have to be wary of this team, because while they may be ranked that low, they got to this quarter-final having beaten the 4th ranked Darmen team, and they'll be looking forward to the idea of two consecutive top 5 scalps.
