Taxachusetts For Progress

Right-Wing Nutcase Makes Christophobic Comments

Today, Noah Hutchinson, a member of the General Assembly from the far-right Freedom and Prosperity Party, made some Christophobic comments attacking the response by President Elizabeths to the recent incidents of violent extremism. Mr. Hutchinson, himself a favorite of those militia terrorists who smuggle illegal guns into our glorious People's Republic, gave a speech to a convention of fellow right-wing nutcases calling for stronger action to be taken against the threat of violent extremism.

Assemblyman Hutchinson condemned our great President for his refusal to use the incendiary phrase "Radical Christianity" to refer to the individuals engaging in random acts of senseless violence. While everybody knows that these people are only engaging in violence because of poverty, Noah Hutchinson is a right-winger, so he has a desire to deflect attention from the numerous problems that people like him are responsible for.

In his speech, he actually had the audacity to say that, "And if you thought that the rampant inflation and chronic unemployment caused by the policies of Warren Elizabeths were bad enough, then you've got to be horrified by our President's refusal to call our enemy what they are. No, Mr. President, climate change is not the top national security threat facing our People's Republic. Those murderous fanatics from the Christian State are! How many more women will have to suffer through an upside down crucifixion before our President will actually do something to stop the terrorists? I say that it is about time we had a new President, one who will restore our economy by helping the rich get ahead so that prosperity can trickle down to the peasants. I say that it is about time that we had a new President who will engage and defeat the threat of the Radical Christian Crusade and it is about time that we had a President who will not cower before political correctness. It is about time that we had a President who will call our enemies by their name instead of using euphemisms. It is about time that we had a President who will face reality, rather than clinging to his failed fantasies of Utopia. Thank you and I hope you will join me in fighting for a free, prosperous and safe Taxachusetts."

Now, as us educated people know, poverty is actually caused by evil right-wing obstructionists who are always blocking laws that will make life bearable for 99.9% of us and are always trying to screw up the implementation of our laws. If only we could convince all of those moronic reactionaries to join the 21st century, we would live much better lives. But, more importantly, the speech given by the Representative was bigoted and misogynistic. Women have a right to choose whether or not to wear the headcovering and it isn't our place to judge them. Besides, we're already making phenomenal progress. President Elizabeths is probably going to sign a bill into law, before the end of the year, that will ban the barbaric, concussion-causing sport of Republican Football. That will be yet another huge victory for Progress and yet another setback for those cavemen who cling to the old ways. Now, if only we could get the President to finally sign a bill requiring pornography actresses to have a BMI of 25 or higher. That would put a stop to the porn industry's odiously sexist agenda that causes eating disorders in girls! Just think of the feelings of all of the girls who cannot maintain such an unrealistic standard of beauty! But, Progress marches on, slowly. Sooner or later, idiots like that right-wing Neanderthal who wants our President to make inflammatory statements that will offend Christians around the multiverse, will die out and our society will evolve to a higher plane. You can't turn back the clock of history, nor can you stop it for more than a short moment. That just isn't possible...

Top Ten Ranking Follows Opener Road Win For Honu
Story by Abraham Shepherd

San Jose Guyabal—For the South Seas University Honu, it is hard to imagine a better start to the most recent NSCF season. The Honu, who only recently joined the NSCF after years at a lower level of competition, got an opening day road win against the Universidad Nacional Cougars. The 16-0 shutout came against a team that started the day just outside the Sporting World top ten. Following mathcday one's game, the Honu vaulted from near the bottom of the rankings to capture the final spot in the top ten.
Box Score1234F

Honu Offensive leaders:
Passing: Ezra Talbot-26/32, 202 yards, 1 TD, 4 carries, 28 yards
Rushing: Samuel Marshall-18 carries, 112 yards, 4 receptions, 22 yards
Rushing: Jonas Talbot-10 carries, 56 yards, 3 receptions, 17 yards
Rushing: Sterling Sparrow-10 carries, 65 yards, 1 reception, 4 yards
Receiving: Satchel King-8 receptions, 99 yards, 1 TD
Receiving: Levi Savage- 5 receptions, 44 yards
Kicking: Ranger Cisterns-3/3 FG-29 yards, 48 yards, 36 yards, 1/1 XP

Honu Defensive leaders:
Sequoia Clark- 8 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 1 sack, 2 passes defended
Gideon Ali'iloa-6 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, 3 sacks
Eustace Wellington-3 tackles, 6 passes defended

The move was a sign of good faith from the voters. However, it remains to be seen whether or not the Honu can continue thier winning at this next level. While most expected the Honu offense to be better than average, it was the stellar defensive play that ensured South Seas university the victory. Meanwhile, three promising offesnsive drives fell short of putting the ball in the endzone as the Honu settled for field goals.

After the game, Coach Goose Carneghy commented on his team's somewhat lackluster offensive performance. "We've got to score touchdowns if we want to win in this conference," he stated in an after game press conference. "We were kind of bailed out there by the Cougars' own inefficiencies on offense. I think our defense gave us a big kickstart, but ideally we would be punching it in on the other side." Carneghy added that the team was really needed to clean up the penalties if it wanted to play the role of contender. "Yeah, we really shot ourselves in the foot there on a few plays. We've got to get more disciplined on both sides of the ball."

One particular moment was a crucial penalty late in the first quarter. The Honu had started their drive on their own thirteen yard line and had methodically moved the ball down the field inside the Cougar two. A gutsy fourth down call by Carneghy appeared to result in a roll out rushing touchdown by Sophomore quarterback Ezra Talbot. However, the play was called back on a holding call by left guard Holokai Kahili. Kahili was making just his first career start for South Seas University. The Honu had to settle for a slightly disappointing three points after the penalty.

The four point swing appeared to give the Cougar defense a bit of momentum. Offensivley, the Honu could not muster much of an attack for the remainder of the first half. Despite the defensive unit's excellent play on the other side of the ball, the Honu took a precarious 3-0 lead into halftime. Against a Universidad Nacional offense which entered the day rated as more aggressive than that of South Seas University, Carneghy knew he needed more out of his offense. "We knew we had a bit of challenge ahead of us in the second half to get to a more comfortable spot," he stated after the game. "It was one of those things where you just go in and challenge the players to go out and take grasp of greatness, to put it in your hands and take it by force."

The halftime adjustments must have made quite an impact on the game. The Honu took the second half kickoff down the field with six straight runs by tailback Samuel Marshall. With the offensive line opening large holes for the senior runningback, the Honu utilized an up-tempo appoach which kept the Cougar defense on their heels. Ultimately, the defense tried to clamp down to stop the running game, which opened up the ability to mix in the aerial assault that Carneghy has been touting since early in the preseason. Teh Honu scored the first touchdown of the game on a forty yard pass from Talbot to receiver Satchel King.

On the ensuing Honu possession, again the Honu started moving the ball well, utilizing Talbot's younger brother Jonas on a number of running plays, mixing in sophomore bruiser Sterling Sparrow to tire the Cougar defense. However, the drive stalled on a third down drop by the inexperienced freshman wide receiver Estancio Abascal, who at the Cougar twenty yard line had beaten the Universidad Nacional defender for what would have been a walk-in touchdown. Again, the Honu were forced to kick a field goal.

With the Cougar offense stymied by the Honu defensive unit all day long, as the fourth quarter began, the Honu went to work on the clock. Sparrow continued to run plays up the middle, further wearying the already tired Cougar defensive line. Kicker Ranger Cisterns added a third field goal with a little over eight minutes to go in the game. Again, it was a short kick, but one that made sense for the Honu rather than going for a one yard fourth down conversion, as it would put Carneghy's squad up two touchdowns and two two-point conversions.

Defensively, the Honu played a great game. Gideon Ali'iloa had three sacks, while cornerback Jovante James continued his impressive work as a true shutdown defender as he saw only one pass come his way all game. It will be interesting to see James' progression as he is only a sophomore.

Overall, it was an outing whose result is hard to argue against. But the Honu know they have plenty to work on before a second subsequent road game in matchday two. "We've got to get more out of our offense," Carneghy conceded. "You only get so many chances a game, and when you can't punch it in, it really stings. I think we did some things really well, but we've got to put the ball in the painted grass if we are going to have continued success."

The Honu travel to defending champion Ramusok Capital for match day two for a clash of top ten teams. The Dragons defeated Queen Valley University 20-9 in their opening game, and come into matchday two ranked number one overall.

The game against Ramusok Capital can be viewed on The Wave, local channel 8.

The Fire Extinguisher Bar and Grill
Vikrant, Trendstart

The bar that Fruity Arellano had entered was a brick red affair called "The Fire Extinguisher." Like its name suggested, the theme of the bar was all about the firefighting service. Pictures of half-naked men and women in firefighting gear covered almost every available inch of the walls, and a ton of firefighting memorabilia were also in abundance throughout the bar.

As bars went, it was at most average. It served the usual drinks and cocktails, and there was a separate place for an actual restaurant that served grilled meats with an astonishing choice of sides, from mashed potatoes to steamed rice to onion rings and even green peas and string beans. There was a stage where live acts or people brave our drunk enough to sing on the karaoke could perform in front of an equally drunk audience. Right now, there was no one up there, probably because no one was yet too drunk to go up on stage, so everyone had to settle for the bartender's playlist for the moment.

Everyone in the bar, from the bouncer to the wait staff to the bartender and even some of the regulars, nodded at Fruity as he entered the bar and greeted them all one by one. He ordered beer for him and Destiny, Alexandra, and Allison, although he did ask for light beer when Destiny told him that that was what she and the other girls would like to drink.

The four of them took a table right in the middle of the dining area. As they took their seats, Fruity raised his bottle up in the air and said, "A toast to friends lost, and friends found."

"To friends," Destiny, Alexandra, and Allison repeated. They sipped at their beer while Fruity downed almost a third of the beer in his bottle. In just half a minute, he had to ask for another bottle because he had quickly emptied his. Five minutes later, Fruity was already well into his seventh bottle, while the girls had barely even touched theirs.

"I'm so glad that you girls have finally decided to visit your old pal Fruity," Fruity slurred. "Like I said before, no one's actually even missed me before. Did you girls know that my family didn't even bother looking for me when I finally went off the grid? Now I've got three beautiful girl friends sitting beside me right here in this fucking shithole of a colony!" He tipped back his beer and drained it once again. "Another!" he cried out, and a waitress immediately appeared with a freshly opened bottle of beer for him.

"Oh, look," Fruity said. "Is that my eighth already? This calls for a celebration!" He stood up and walked tipsily to the stage. "Hello!" he cried out into the microphone. "Is this thing on? Okay! I'd like to dedicate this song to my three girl friends over there in the middle for being there when I needed them the most! Hit it, DJ!"

"Sounds like he still sings like the Fruity that we used to know," Alexandra said as the aforementioned began an off-key rendition of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know." "That's good."

"What?" Allison asked. "How is Fruity's still abysmal singing good for us?"

"Look at him," Alexandra replied. "The poor schmuck's practically pouring his heart out every time he sings about something. All right, once he gets into his rhythm, we spike his beer with the trank that Allison here bought from that dodgy roadside pharmacy, get Fruity the hell out of here and to Huesca's doorstep, rescue Cornelius, and forget that all of this ever happened."

"All right, Alexandra, I know you like to think that you've always thought about everything there is to think about, covered all the possible angles if you will," Destiny said. "So let me ask you something that you've obviously not thought about. What if Huesca has no intention of letting us live after we've given him Fruity? What if, after we give Fruity to him, he decides to just kill us all? You know, Lexie, Huesca didn't become the most wanted man in Abanhfleft by being a forgiving pansy."

Alexandra was silent for a moment. "Shit, Destiny, you got me good there," she finally said after a few moments of thought. "What the fuck. Let's just worry about that when we finally have Fruity at Huesca's feet."

"I'm telling you, Lex, this shit's gonna get us killed," Allison said. "Whether it's a few days or a few years from now, this shit's gonna be the death of us."

"Look, Allie, why don't you just spike Fruity's drink so that we can finally get this over with?" Alexandra retorted. "All you do is bitch about this and bitch about that. Just do what you're supposed to do already!"

"All right," Allison muttered as she prepared the clonazepam tablets under the table. "When we all see each other in hell, don't say I didn't warn you!"

"Oh, come on, you whiner," Destiny said. "That ain't gonna happen soon because we're obviously weeds in God's great big garden. And you know how weeds are some of the toughest-to-kill things on this world."

Allison took one of Fruity's empty bottles of beer and began crushing pills under the table. Alexandra saw this and she said, "You're only crushing up the pills now?"

"Hey!" Allison retorted. "If you didn't know, it's kind of hard to crush pills on a moving minivan!"

"Fuck that!" Destiny said. "Just get whatever you've got in his drink, cause here he comes now!"

Fruity got off the stage to the drunken applause of the night crowd, and soon another drunk soul was up on stage to take a stab at the karaoke. Allison quickly dumped as much of the powdered clonazepam as she could into Fruity's beer and then acted like nothing had happened once Fruity was back in his seat. "They like me!" he said as he sat down. "That calls for a toast! Cheers!"

"Cheers!" the girls repeated as they touched bottles.

Fruity touched his beer to his lips and was about to take a swallow when he smelled something odd about it. The beer smelled of... chemicals, or something like that. Immediately the hairs on the back of his neck stood up. Something wrong was definitely going on here, he thought.

"What's wrong, Fruity?" Alexandra asked. "Can't drink any more?"

"No, it's not that," Fruity replied.

"Well, then, drink up!"

"I can't," Fruity said. "Something's wrong."

"What?" Alexandra asked. "What's wrong?"

"Someone spiked my drink."

Allison gave Alexandra the evil eye. Alexandra widened her eyes, as if saying "Don't you dare say a word." Destiny, meanwhile, was unnaturally quiet through all this.

"Goddamn it, I should have known," Fruity muttered, and then suddenly he smashed the bottle on the table, sending glass shards and drops of beer everywhere. With the jagged neck of the bottle in his hand, he quickly pointed the sharp end at Allison and asked her, "Who wants me dead, bitch?! WHO!?"

"Shit!" Alexandra and Destiny shouted at the same time. "Fruity, just calm down! There's no need to be waving around broken bottles here!"

"Calm down?!" Fruity shouted. "You expect me to calm down when your friend over just tried to get something into me through my beer? Who wants me dead?! Who wants me!? WHO! Answer me, bitches!"

"Goddamn it, Fruity!" Allison shouted back. "It's Huesca!" she said, despite Alexandra shaking her head so fiercely Destiny thought it was going to spontaneously come off. "Guillermo Huesca wants us to bring you to him! Shit, he's got Cornelius, man! Huesca's gonna kill Cornelius unless we bring you to him! I swear, Fruity, on my ancestors, that's the truth!"

Fruity panted as anger and adrenaline surged through him, and then, slowly, he lowered the broken bottle. "Fucking hell," he muttered, running a hand over his face. "Oh, damn it. I knew it was only a matter of time."

"Shit, Fruity, what are you talking about?" Destiny asked.

"Guillermo Huesca wants me, you say?" Fruity asked. The three girls nodded their heads. "Damn it! The old fucker knows that I'm here in Trendstart. Goddamn it!"

"Fruity? Are you okay?" Alexandra asked tentatively.

"Yeah, I'm okay," Fruity replied. "Ah, shit, this is gonna take a long time to explain."

"Say what?" Destiny said. "What are you on, man?"

"Huesca doesn't want me, girls," Fruity replied. "He wants his gold and diamonds."

Karl Marx University has the best gridiron program in Barunia. That's an easy claim, for they also have the only gridiron program in Barunia. KMU was the university at the beginning of the national team, and most of that team's players were students. As such, this team features many of the players from the Sea Cows, the national team that competed in the World Bowl a few months ago. Most of the students were from the rugby program which had been struggling with funding, and found a new lease of life offering scholarships for Barunia's newest team sport. Being the only team in the country, KMU is looking to get some rare experience and competition from this tournament, and are looking forward to it.

Because of the limited popularity of the sport in the country, the team is not as large as it might otherwise be. As such, many players double up in the offensive, defensive and specialist teams. Some players have moved from the positions they played in the Baptism of Iron and World Bowl.

Usually used for Rugby, Hedley Tannock Field is located on the grounds of Karl Marx University, and named after the university's first chancellor. There is a permanent 1,250-seat grandstand, and plenty of open grass on the other three sides. Based on numbers from the world bowl, where home fans never exceeded 500 people, it is anticipated that this will not be a problem in terms of capacity. KMU is located in Samford, a small city about 50 kilometres south-west of Barunia's capital Porthaven, in the state of Havenia.

Nanooks Throttled In NSCF Season Opener
Story by Wilbur Elias

Cape Dutch, Cosumar—The Chena University Nanook's debut game in the most recent NSCF college football scene didn't quite go as anticipated on matchday one. The Nanooks were completely dismantled by number four ranked Stoneshore College. On a day when it seemed nothing could go right for Chena University, the Bruins finally eased up in the fourth quarter. The final score of the game was 38-0 in favor of Stoneshore.
Box Score1234F
Stoneshore College14714338
Chena University00000

Stoneshore proved they were worthy of their number four overall ranking with a relentless attack against the Nanook defensive unit. From the opening drive, it became apparent that the Nanooks were simply outmatched in this game. The Bruins took the opening kickoff and systematically marched eighty yards down the field with little resistance. The Stoneshore offensive line wreaked havoc on the defensive front of the Nanooks, opening up gashing holes for the running game and offering exceptional protection for Bruin quarterback Sylvester Marcoux. The first drive ended in a Stoneshore touchdown, and the Bruins never looked back.

On the ensuing Nanook possession, quarterback Q.J. Abrams fumbled on a designed third and two run. After a pile of offensive and defensive players swarmed the ball, video evidence was unable to determine who had recovered. The ball was ultimately awarded to Stoneshore when a Bruin player came out of the pile with the ball.

The process of Stoneshore dominance and Nanook ineptitude was one that would be repeated early and often throughout the remainder of the game. The Bruins continued to score, seemingly at will, while the Nanook triple option was horribly ineffective.

While most analysts knew coming into the season that the Nanook offense would not be the most prolific attack in the NSCF, it was the complete domination of the Nanook defense by the Bruins that came as one of the bigger surprises in all of matchday one. "What we saw today was an utter embarassment of the proud name of Nanook football," Chena head coach August Caligula stated after the game. "This team is built on the principle of defense. With good defense and ball control, you should be able to win every game. We had neither defense nor ball control in this game, and we got flat destroyed."

With a matchday two home game looming against Universidad Nacioncal, the question remains whether the lack of Nanook defense was a fluke thanks to the strong play of the Bruins, or whether the poor play will continue. Coach Caligula has stated that the team plans on hitting the practive field hard in the coming week. "We've got to go back to the basics. We've got to work on tackling, wrapping up, anticipation, defensive blocking. We've got to work on getting our running scheme going. We've got a lot of work to do."

With the small recruiting area, the Nanooks simply don't have a lot of extra talent to spare on either side of the ball. This has never been an issue with Caligula, who has a reputation for getting the most out of the players he has. Caligula commented, "You know, who we have is who we have. It's not like we can go out and get a brand new set of players. What we need to get back to is playing with heart. This is a close group of guys who I know can play with a lot more. They have to give it their all." Caligula went on to add that once the team recognizes their true grit and starts winning some games that perhaps the recruiting class will open up now that the Nanooks are in the more prestigious NSCF division.

It Was Over When...
At the 8:07 mark of the second quarter, Stoneshore went in for their third touchdown of the day. Despite the Nanook's poor play up to that point, there was still a chance of turning the game around. Down by three touchdowns, the Nanook offense just wasn't built to come back from such a large deficit.

The defense should get a bit of a boost next matchday as the Nanooks return to Nanook Field, where the arctic tundra weather conditions always favor the home team. The bigger question on the minds of Chena fans is whether or not the offense can get their game plan rolling to make a statement against the Cougars of Universidad Nacional. If the Nanooks can't correct their mistakes in matchday two, it may make for a long transition into the NSCF field of competitors. Caligula is confident that the Nanooks can still turn it around after matchday one's abysmal start. "Look, we lost to a very good team," he stated after the game. "We came into the game just unprepared for the size and speed of this division. They kind of showed us what it is going to take to win at this level. We'll be ready next week. I guarantee it."

Kickoff for matchday two is at 11:35 AM local time at Nanook Field.

Nothing really changed since two seasons ago, aside from one key departure that was a huge loss for them when it happened. The departure of David Lancaster to Queen's University, his alma mater, left them quickly scrambling for the replacement candidates. It wasn't until spring camp that Marcel Auger, long time friend of Jean-Henri Brennan and a longtime Quarterback clinician across the QIS, came to join the staff.

The past two years have been pretty rough for them, as they encountered challenges along the way, but was memorable for persevering through all the way. Both times they dominated the RSECQ, pulling off key wins over Montreal and Farrer to put their two-year regular season record 16-0. Then in playoffs they pounced hard, easily winning Dunsmores in what were 25-12 and 35-14 Cup finals over Montreal and Farrer in those years. Then on both occasions they came out on top, emerging victorious in national stage as they beat the likes of Carleton(2017), Guelph (2016), Mount Ester (2016) and Manitoba(2017) to win the National titles in both years.

Sadly, the Bleu et Blanc reported some losses on defensive front during this offseason. After celebrating their National title defense, large number of defensive players were on their way to celebrate it down the harbour when one of their vans crashed into the St.Lawrence River. This led to the death of 2 starters and injuries to 6 others that they were unable to complete their period of eligibility as Bleu et Blanc.

On the another hand, the Bleu et Blanc soared on recruiting front, welcoming its armada of star-studded players of various kinds. Those include the likes of several giants, some of them way over the college ball size that they could simply turn into Gregoryisgodistani enemy crushers when it comes to coverage and tackling. "We have a great variety of size over here," said Jared Thibault, a recruiting assistant. "Great size in defence, and they being fit enough to handle the speed of the game....We're more than ready to handle the bigger competition."

With the Woodlands Conference looking to be challenged by the likes of Queen's and Farrer, as well as traditional giant Arkinesia, it looks to be much harder season for the giants of the NSCF: St.Croix and Utica. Through this they may have rekindled their fire, as the Bleu et Blanc looks to shake off the second-fiddle image to Utica. "This is our time," said Clarke Hunter, the Bleu et Blanc offensive co-ordinator, "With Utica looking to retool and others not as strong, I think we can make it this time around, perhaps all the way to the championship. We had a great time in recruiting front and I hope it translates to our performance, with Richard entering the second half of his college ball career."

Sports Moments: Garcia scores first-ever NSCF Touchdown

Going out of the huddle on 8th play of the drive, & down by 13, David Garcia was disappointed with himself. He had barely contributed to his team, and was going to have to block again. He lined up for the play, and blocked as Ward threw a near-interception, as Marcus Flores nearly tipped the ball into the hands of a defending CB. Finally, Ward called a running play. HB Pull was the play, where Ward would hand the ball off to Garcia, and Garcia would run to the outside. Garcia lined up, viewed the supporting crowd around him, and waited for the snap. He could tell that a linebacker was going to try to stop him, and had been assigned to do so. Ward looked at Garcia, nodded, and gave Garcia the ball.

What he saw was 6'1" 341-pound run-blocker Adrian Smith absolutely maul the defensive end, and that the linebacker was determined to bring him down. Instinctively, he ran away from him. He made a sharp cut, to get away from him by use of speed, but the linebacker was going to get to the outside of the field first. He juked the other way. The linebacker was now only a couple of steps in front of him, and had been thrown off a little bit. Garcia put his right foot out, and drove his left foot behind that, spinning. The linebacker dove and caught his leg as he was nearing the end of his move. He nearly tripped, but managed to drag his foot from the linebacker. Although it was a struggle, he saw nothing but open field.

Sprinting, screaming, Garcia went 18 yards from the line of scrimmage, and avoided a safety at the end to validity the first points ever scored by Queen Valley in the glorious league of the NSCF. The stadium rattled as Garcia celebrated, getting hugged by teammates. Even though the Golden Eagles failed the two point conversion and lost by two scores, the play by Garcia will be a moment to remember. Garcia is a redshirt senior, and had 78 yards rushing in the game on 12 carries in what was a mostly game of defense.

Chattahoochee State wins in NSCF debut!

Chattahoochee State University joined Nation States College Football this year and won it's first game in history 29-17 against University of Canterlot from Equestria & Griffon. The game was played at Donald Clark Stadium in Lake Mary Jane in front of a sell out crowd of 61, 725 spectators. An ex Southern Idol contestant sang the Southern Democratic States National Anthem and the My Little Pony theme and then the game started. CSU won the coin toss and choose to kick first. Canterlot doesn't score on their 1st drive and are forced to punt. Chat State gets the ball at their own 18 yard line. About four minutes later, Amba Ukandu score a touchdown on a 14 yards pass by James Wilson and Chat State leads 7-0. Canterlot ties the game before the end of the 1st quarter on a touchdown by High Kick from a pass by the quarterback and since Canterlot provided an half roster, the Oglethorpe-Coca-Cola Journal-Constitution officially calls Canterlot's quarterback Ryan Leaf. Both teams made a field goal in the 2nd quarter and the score was 10-10. Before the end of the 2nd quarter, the Seminoles scored another touchdown, on a 28 yards pass by James Wilson to Dae'Shaun Wiggins and the score was 17-10 for Chattahoochee State at the halftime.

Chat State receives the ball at the start of the 2nd half but are forced to punt. Canterlot gets the ball at their own 3 yard line. On a 1st and 10, Ryan Leaf's pass is incomplete. On a 2nd and 10, Ryan Leaf is sacked in his own end zone by Noah Schofield, it's a safety for Chat State and the score is 19-10. Chat State gets the ball again, at their own 39 yard. James Wilson passes to Lamarcus McGee for 36 yards. The ball is at the 25 yards line in Canterlot's territory. James Wilson's pass is incomplete. DeAndre Jackson runs for 3 yards. James Wilson passes to Ruben castro for 6 yards. On a 4th and 1 at the 16 yard line, it's a 33 yards field goal attempt for Billy Ray Gibson and the field goal is good, 22-10 Chattahoochee State. On the next drive, Canterlot are forced to punt and Chat State are punting too. It's the end of the 3rd quarter. Canterlot gets the ball again, at their own 26 yards line. Ryan Leaf passes to Static Floor for 15 yards. The ball is at their own 41. Ryan Leaf pass is incomplete. Canterot likes the passing game so much that it doesn't seem they have a running back on the field. On a 2nd and 10 Ryan Leaf's pass is incomplete again. On a 3 and 10, Ryan Leaf's pass is incomplete but there's a flag on the play. 15 yards penalty to Kadeem Hickingbottom for pulling High Kick's mane. Canterlot gets the ball at Chat States 44 yard line. Ryan Leaf's pass is incomplete. On a 2nd and 10, ryan Leaf passes to High kick for 22 yards. The ball is at the 22 yards line. Ryan Leaf passes to High kick for 9 yards. Ryan Leaf's pass is incomplete. On a 3rd and 1, Ryan Leaf passes in the endzone to static Floor and it's a touchdown, the score is 22-17 for Chattahoochee State. On their next drive, the Seminoles are forced to punt. Canterlot gets the ball at their own 16 yards line. Ryan Leaf's pass is incomplete. Ryan Leaf passes to Static Floor for 18 yards. The ball is at Canterlot's 34 yards line. Ryan Leaf's pass is intercepted by I'Tavius Stringfellow at the 49 yard line in canterlot's territory who returns it to the 42 yards line. Chat State's offense comes onto the field. DeAndre Jackson runs for 4 yards. DeAndre Jackson runs for -1 yard. James Wilson passes to Lamarcus McGee for 12 yards. The ball is at the 27 yards line. DeAndre Jackson runs for 2 yards. James Wilson passes for 17 yards. The ball is at the 8 yards line. DeAndre Jackson runs for 1 yard. James Wilson passes to Quinlan Breaux for 4 yards. James Wilson passes to Hayden Schultz into the endzone for a 3 yards touchdown. The score is 29-17 for chattahoochee states and it's the final score.

Chattahoochee State is now 2nd in the Zephyr Conference, which seems a little weak because there is only one Zephyr Conference team in the top 10. The Seminoles' next game is at home again, against St. Filipp's University from Estenia which are ranked #13.

Strong Start for Tigers

Queen's University 7 0 0 0 7
Utica University 10 16 14 14 54

A blowout victory over Quebecois school Queen's University sees last season's runners up take the first step toward reclaiming the Woodlands conference championship with a convincing win.

Brendon Hogan, the program's Utica-born signal caller, set about disabusing the notion that he might not be good enough for NSCF competition with an assured performance under center, throwing 27 completions for 358 yards and three touchdowns. An interception in the first quarter was a stain on an otherwise outstanding game for the Tubrissian, but his recovery showed a mental fortitude that bodes well for his career. "It was a great feeling. First time I've started, my first experience coming out of the tunnel in The Pit. It's intoxicating." Hogan said. "The crowd was amazing, even after the interception. I messed up, but they really pushed me to make up for it, to go one better, you know?"

Hogan's early interception was the result of nerves, it seemed. He had been less-than-stellar on the Tigers' previous drive; which fell short following a sack on third down, though Young salvaged three points with a thirty-eight yard kick through the uprights. Next time the pass rush descended on Hogan, he was perhaps a little spooked. Seeing pressure on his right, he rolled left out of the pocket and made the throw with his weight unbalanced. "It was a rookie mistake, the kind of thing you expect from a guy in his first start." Henri Toulalan, Utica's quarterbacks coach admitted. "We spoke on the sidelines after the turnover, and he addressed it when he went back out onto the field. I have no complaints."

After Queen's returned the interception for thirty-six yards, they were able to get first-and-goal in two plays -- a short run followed by a quick slant pass carried for substantial yards after catch -- and ran it up the gut for the touchdown. The Tigers did not let this set them too far back, however. On the next drive, Hogan was able to emulate Henderson's frequent use of Sawyer as a receiver out of the backfield from last season, throwing passes to the diminutive runningback and the substantially larger frame of Damian Valdez between bruising runs from Romeo Brown. "We worked on this last season, the mixing of play, and it worked well. We saw no reason to deviate, and we've tried to keep the same system for this year, to go one better." Offensive co-ordinator Alex Hardison explained. When Romeo Brown punched through the Queen's University defensive line on third-and-goal, there was a feeling that it was more than just reclaiming the lead. And it was.

Second quarter, the Utica defense was ruthless, forcing Queen's back deep into their own half, before Manu Solomon punished an opening in the offensive line, bursting through to flatten the quarterback as he dropped back into the end zone looking for an out. On their next offensive possession, Utica again methodically drove downfield, with Hogan mixing his passes up brilliantly. Lewis Aneke and Derrick Fuller's speed attacking the deep ball stretched the Queen's defense, who simply couldn't cover all of Hogan's weapons -- particularly Sawyer and Valdez -- while the threat of Romeo Brown running up the middle meant they couldn't commit too many men to deep coverage roles. "I think the guys executed superbly today. Everyone fulfilled their roles, the gameplan worked. It was a complete performance." Utica head coach Daniel Corsey said.

The second Utica touchdown was followed by Andre Hawkins jumping a route to snatch a pass out of the air right in front of the intended receiver. The sophomore from Parkchester's ability to read the game is well-known, though his elusiveness may have come as a shock to many. With a couple of good blocks ahead of him, Hawkins was able to dart forty-five yards to return the interception to the house. The return TD seemed to start a collapse, and the next two quarters were an exhibition of how to dominate a football game.

"I think we just knocked the wind out of them, they looked a little overwhelmed at times in the second half." Utica running back Isaac Sawyer said. "I can appreciate that coming to The Pit in your first game in the competition is going to be tough, though. I'm not sure we got a true representation of their ability in this game, so we'll need to be on our guard for the return visit."

With the game effectively won by the end of the third quarter, Corsey made changes, allowing some backups to get some playing time. Hogan remained on the field, however, ostensibly to accumulate experience. His pass to Troy Barnett -- his third touchdown of the game -- was a sign of his rapidly increasing confidence; threaded between two defenders over the middle, straight into the hands of the freshman tight end. Sophomore runningback Eriq Fuller finished the game with a powerful run, breaking two tackles en route to the end zone, and underlining his claim to Romeo Brown's spot as the team's primary power back.

The confidence boost from this game will be crucial for the Tigers, as they travel to face their hated rivals in Arkinesia next week. The Wyverns have taken a hiatus from NSCF competition of late, but there is no doubt that they still possess a roster of stellar players. The two teams' rivalry dates back to the championship game of NSCF's inaugural season, and has burned brightly ever since. It has long been a measure of pride in Tubriss whenever they bested the Wyverns, and it still means a lot to the fans. Though none of them have experienced the intensity of this particular rivalry game, many of the Tigers' roster are well aware of the importance. None more-so than Brendon Hogan. "I'm a Utica guy. I used to come and watch games when we had Tommy Rhodes under center. Really big game for us, and I'm really fired up for it." He said. "We don't really know what to expect from them this time around, with them not being in NSCF for the past four or five years, so it should be interesting. But if we all bring our A-game like we did tonight, I think we'll have too much even for them."

1st Quarter
UTC - Darrian Young 38 yard field goal 3-0

Honu to Wear Gold Jerseys in Ramusok
Story by Abraham Shepherd

Ramusok, Cosumar—It appears that the South Seas University Honu are preparing to wear their alternate away jerseys to the big game on matchday two. Earlier in the day, head coach Goose Carneghy sent the following message from his twitter account: "Big game coming up against the Dragons! Go for the GOLD! #GoHonu."

Typically in the past, the Honu have reserved the gold jerseys for particularly significant games. That certinaly fits the billing here, as the Honu have moved into Sporting World's top ten list after a 16-0 opening day win against Universidad Nacional. The opponent in this early season game is the Ramusok Capital Dragons, currently ranked number one in the poll. Oh, and one more thing; the Dragons are the defending NSCF champions.

The home team has the option of wearing whatever jerseys they would like, and almost universally the home team chooses to wear their colored jerseys. That leaves the Honu with the responisbility to wear a white jersey. But that does not stop the Honu from choosing what white jersey they will be playing in. From the context of the tweet, it certainly appears that the Honu will be choosing the white jersey with gold numbers combination, and finished with the gold pants.

When contacted on the team's flight to Ramusok, Coach Carneghy had this to say: "We encourage any fans who live in the Ramusok area or who are making the long trip to wear gold to the stadium. And come ready to be as loud as you are at the Plumeria Garden; we're going to need all the help we can get out there!"

The clash of top ten teams is certainly one of the biggest games happening on matchday two, and will be followed with great excitement. It seems logical at this early venture that the winner of this game will have the inside track to claiming the Horizon conference championship and head into the NSCF playoffs. Of course, this does not factor into the equation the conference's third top ten team, the Stoneshore College Bruins, who could continue to play a fly in the ointment kind of role for either of these teams.

One thing is for certain, and that is it appears that the Horizon conference will be one of the most hotly contested out there, and the winner of ths conference will be well situated for a run deep into the playoffs thanks to being in the upper eschelon of competitive play. However, it may be the same old faces that meet the conference winner in the playoffs. Under the playoff format, it is technically possible for the Horizon conference to field three playoff teams.

For now, South Seas Islanders turn their attention to matchday two.

RCU pulls away from Queen Valley late to begin their title-defense campaign
By Ettis Erstwhitz, Senior Copy Editor

POST-GAME REPORT
RHYMENCIA - Brandon Reigner has been the hero of RCU since NSCF 7. The 4-year starter won the fans over with his smooth throws and equally smooth smile. The confident gunslinger restored the program to its former glory, lifted the NSCF Trophy ... and then gallivanted off for the CFL Draft, leaving a gaping hole in his wake. The reins were promptly thrust into the hands of boyish junior quarterback Tobias Engel.

Expectations around Ramusok are higher than ever, but Engel has never taken a NSCF snap. And it showed in the first half of his debut.

In their first international game since the NSCF 10 Championship, the Ramusok Capital University Dragons defeated the Queen Valley Golden Eagles 20-9. It was a sloppy game on both sides, but somebody had to win. Engel started looking more like a worthy successor to Reigner as the game progressed, rallying his team from a an empty halftime scoreline past the touted newcomers from Rhymencia.

"I know I have to play better, but you've got to start somewhere," Engel said. "I've been on this team three years, but I haven't actually played in a real game since high school. I think that first half was just me finding my balance. I know for a fact that I've improved my craft by watching Brandon [Reigner] the last few years. I'm ready for it to finally be my turn. I will fix the negatives from today and build on the positives going forward."

Senior All-Cosumar wide receiver Akim Fjara scored the game's first touchdown on a 32-yard reception in the last minute of the third quarter and Engel hit his best friend, tight end Lucas Castillo on an 18-yard crossing route past the goal line to seal the deal with 2:14 remaining. Running back Avery Broddick picked up from where he left off in the NSCF 10 Championship game, running for 129 yards including a 44-yard scramble that set up Fjara's touchdown.

The Ramusok defense had a fine outing, keeping the Golden Eagles out of the endzone until their late surge. David Garcia had a nice 18-yard run to make things interesting midway through the 3rd, but the extra point was missed because of a steady wind and drizzle. Dual threat quarterback Aaron Ward was held to only eight completions for 83 yards and 21 rushing yards. He was also sacked on crucial 3rd downs twice late as Queen Valley was trying to get back in the game.

The eleven-point win, though we should have won by more, was enough to maintain RCU's #1 ranking in Sporting World. However, Stoneshore currently holds 1st place in Horizon Conference on point differential after their 38-0 demolition of Chena. It would be easy for the Dragons to let their foot off the pedal with the sweet taste of a Championship still in their mouth, but they can't afford any such luxury. The Bruins are going to press hard to take back the conference.

Next week, the Dragons will play their home opener against South Seas University from Costa Aluria. It's still early, but South Seas has the appearance of being a marquee opponent. The Honu shut out Universidad Nacional in their first NSCF game. Their hybrid 3-3-5/3-5-3 defense plays with speed and tenacity, and their players certainly pass the eye test. Sporting World voters agreed, and South Seas rocketed up the ranking and into the Top 10 for week 2. Hype is already growing for this potentially critical conference fixture, with South Seas planning to wear their special gold jerseys and RCU selling out Capital Coliseum within 24 hours of tickets going up for sale.

Be sure to tune in to cheer for the Dragons on CSBNu at 7 p.m. Cosumar-time on Sunday. Until then, may the sun shine bright on your day, Ramusok. Thank you for reading your official student newspaper on campus: The Roaring Dragon.

Horace's Grill
Mosaic, Costa Aluria

--------------------
"Wait, where are they going?"

"Looks like they are headed back to the locker rooms."

"Well what are they doing? It's game time."

"I don't know. I can't hear what they are saying because of the crowd."

"Hey, somebody turn it up! There must be some sort of problem with the game!"

With television monitors all around the grill, it was surprising that only a few patrons noticed that the game hadn't started on time. But this was the typical crowd at Horace's, here for the gridiron action, no doubt, but here for the mob fanatic scene even more. The crowd was made up of a bunch of regulars, people who enjoyed the home games at The Plumeria Garden immensely. On these away game days, they had to settle for the local bar and grill.

The grill had a few good items on the menu, but really it was just a meeting place. No doubt the steak was doable, and the chicken sandwich good. But the chicken wings and other typical gameday fare was the big hit around this time. Well, that and the scantily clad servers who took the orders and brought each patron the dishes.

"Hey, come on! Turn it up a bit!"

One of the servers, Celeste, found the remote just in time to catch the matchday television crew sending the commentary back to Larry Caruso and Dirk Hercules. With the top ten matchup about to get underway, the matchday crew had sent their best commentators out to cover the game.

"It looks like we have got some sort of delay on our hands, Dirk. The teams have headed back to the locker rooms. You can see, there is the Dragon's offensive coordinator Michael Cho, talking to one of the officials. It appears that this was a decision that was made just a brief moment ago."

"It's definitely peculiar, Larry. We'll keep the television audience informed as we get new details. Oh, my. There the officials are apparently telling the Ramusok chearleaders to vacate the field. That man in the crowd does not look very amused."

"Dirk, I'm being told that we are going to swing it down to our sideline reporter Sharon Anderson for an update. Sharon, do you have any updates that we can give the audience at home?"

"Indeed Larry. The teams had been going through their normal warmups when the officials came running onto the field and asked everybody to return to the locker rooms. I was standing here near the South Seas University bench as the referee came over to speak with Honu head coach Goose Carneghy. The referee explained to Carneghy that due to thunderstorms in the vicinity that he was making the executive decision to delay the start of the game. Wow, you can hear the reaction from the crowd as the stadium announcers just announced this over the P.A. System."

"Sharon, can you give us any details of the thunderstorm, or how long the delay might be in effect?"

"Well Dirk, it's hard to tell at this point. I'm literally giving you all the details as I get them. But it appears that the officials are concerned about a storm in the area which has potential to move over the stadium. It's not a fun situation, but they assure us it is all in the name of safety. For now though, it appears that the hype for this game will have to endure just a little bit longer. Back to you , Dirk."

"Alright, we will keep you aware of the details of this situation as they become available. For now, we're going to swing you back out to the Matchday crew who can keep you abreast of all the latest happenings through the NSCF."

At Horace's, the crowd didn't seem to notice. Instead, they continued their merry making. From the back of the crowd, somebody shouted, "Hey, can we get another order of wings back here?"

This is in no means an attack on the NSCF committee or those who have volunteered their time to help with scoring. In fact, it is a thank you to those individuals, and an attempt to keep things in character.

True Gamer
News about Games, from a pro-GamerRevolt Perspective

GamerRevolt hijacks Chatter hashtag for RepublicSoft's Game Developer Showcase (GDS)

GamerRevolt, the movement for ethical gaming journalism, hijacked the hashtag #GDS15 today and flooded it with chats revealing the numerous lies spread by RepublicSoft and unethical gaming journalists based out of nations like the (un)Free Republics and Saintland, that are currently dominated by a hateful Church. This is the latest in a string of recent victories for the GamerRevolt consumer revolt movement.

The Game Developer Showcase is a RepublicSoft-run conference for game developers. The conference is infamous for pushing the unfortunate family values emphasis that has led to a reduction in the quality of recent game releases. Conference sponsor RepublicSoft operates the RepublicSoft Developers Network, a web site for game developers that infamously published the first of the series of anti-gamer articles that set off GamerRevolt.

GamerRevolt activists took advantage of the hashtag to chat out information about the hostility of much of the gaming press to creative freedom in gaming and to gamers and devs who don't toe the Church of Saintland-approved line. As True Gamer readers undoubtedly know, anti-GamerRevolt is the actual hate movement and they are the real harassers. GamerRevolt is a movement of people of good will, including members of the Church of Saintland, who just want decent gaming journalism that respects the creative freedom of game developers and maintains proper ethical standards. There is nothing whatsoever extreme about our movement, no matter what the family value warriors may say. We just want ethics in gaming journalism and we're not going anywhere until we get it!

Disclosure: The author of this article is a GamerRevolt activist and a participant in the hashtag hijacking campaign.

Nanooks Overpower Universidad Nacional
Story by Wilbur Elias

Chena Hot Springs—After an embarassing defeat in their debut game in the NSCF college football world, the Chena University Nanooks flipped the tables against Universidad Nacional on Saturday. The Arctic Tundra at Nanook Field combined with an overpowering rushing attack by the home team to topple the Cougars 35-7.

On a day when Coach August Caligula guaranteed the Nanooks would be ready, the team came to back up those words. Both the offensive and defensive units answered the challenge in what turned into a total domination of the visiting team. After the Cougars took the opening kickoff and quickly gained an initial first down, it appeared the Nanooks might be in for another long day on the gridiron. But Caligula had the nerve to burn a timeout just 1:20 into the game, a timeout he used to reenergize his team. The risky tactic worked well, and the Nanooks stopped the Cougars on three straight plays to force a punt.

From there, the Chena University triple option attack was clearly more than Cougars could handle. Even if the Nanooks were forced to play on a neutral field where the massive homefield advantage wasn't in play, this was a game Chena would have won on the strength of their rushing attack alone. With run after run, the Nanooks powered their way down the field on their opening drive, with the oversized offensive line opening gaping holes. While there were no wow-your-pants-off plays in the opening drive, the Nanooks capitalized on continued substantial gains before junior runningback Darrius Cobbs ran in a four yard touchdown for the first score of the day.

Even with the clock controlling offense that Chena University utilizes, there were still plenty of opportunities for the Nanooks to score thanks to a complete shutdown effort on the defensive side of the ball. On a day that saw zero turnovers, it was a feat in and of itself for the Nanooks to score as they did. Offesnsively, Universidad Nacicional simply could not gain first downs as a result to the stifling play of the Nanooks.

After a Chena University second possesion that ended after just two first downs, the Nanooks took over the ball for the third time in the second quarter. After nine straight runs on this posessions, the Nanooks dialed up a bit of an offensive surprise as they called the first passing play of the game. Quarterback Q.J. Abrams faked the pitch to Cobbs and rolled to his right, cathching the Cougar defense off-guard. It was an easy pitch and catch to tight end Edward Koyuk, who rumbled ahead for forty yards to set the Nanooks up with a first and goal from the six yard line. One play later, Abrams ran the ball in himself for the second touchdown.

After a quick three and out by the Cougars, the Nanooks were looking at going 68 yards down the with a little over six minutes remaining in the half, a near perfect setup for the ball control mindset of the Nanook coaching staff. With everybody in the stadium expecting a running play, again Abrams faked the pitch and hit fullback Charlese Edenshaw for a ten yard pass. With the threat of the Nanooks utilizing a more traditional run/pass split, the Cougar defense loosened up around the line of scrimmage, which was all coach Caligula needed to move back to his run-oriented approach. The smashmouth style of play utilized by Chena once again pushed the Cougars back, and the Nanooks took full advantage. With the power run game working so well, the Nanooks brought in the lightning counterpart, runningback Brion Brown, at the Cougar 24 yard line. With 1:26 to go in the opening half, Brown gashed the winded Cougars for a 21 yard scamper to the pylon, giving Chena University a 21-0 lead at the break.

The break might have been the best part of the game to that point for the Cougars, who were able to regroup slightly on defense to open the third quarter. With the Nanooks receiving the second half kick, Abrams and the rest of the Chena offense were stopped on thier own 43 yard line after picking up two intitial first downs. Unfortunately, the Cougar offense could not step up their side of the game.

The Cougars shifted to a more pass oriented offense to start their first second half posession, something which played right into the hands of the hometeam. Typically in the past, the Nanooks have looked to push opposing teams to try to pass in the brutal conditions of Nanook Field, where passing plays rarely work due to the difficulties of our Northern clime. Temperatures at the field on matchday two were recorded at relatively warm -15 degrees Fahrenheit after a warm front moved in overnight. With the Cougar receivers undoubtedly unaccustomed to catching passes in such conditions, it was not long before the team had to punt the ball back to the Nanooks.

On the ensuing possession, Chena continued in their strategy of eating away the clock. Abrams opened the drive with a five yard pickup on first down, and once again the Nanooks were rolling. Thirteen plays—eleven runs, two short passes—and some nine minutes later, Chena University was once again knocking on the door at the Cougar two. On a day when the running game was working to a tee, offesnsive coordinator Jacob Spires' conservative mixing in of passing plays became a factor that seemed to break what remaining spirit was left on the Cougar sideline. With the Cougars expecting the Nanooks to just power their way in to the endzone, Spires dialed up a beautiful curl route from wide receiver Calvin Baxter, who sat on the route just inside the endzone to give the Nanooks a 28 point advantage.

With the game well under control at this point, the Nanooks began to take a less-attacking approach, perhaps a bit preemptively. Freshman quarterback Alexander Norton came in to take the snaps, as well as runningback Briar Outwater to take a mjority of pitches. With the Cougar defensive front keyed in on these substitutions, Chena's offense once again stalled on the next possession. It was at this point that the Cougar play of the game happened.

From midfield, Nanook punter Harlow Summers took the snap, and angled the ball toward the sideline hoping to pin the Cougars deep in their own territory. However, the ball careened off of Summers' foot, awkwardly missing its mark as it traveled underwhelmingly in the middle of the field. A Universidad Nacional punt returner watched as the unknowing Nanook coverage team overpursued the kick in attempt to keep the ball from going into the endzone for a touchback.

With the coverage team now out of their lanes, the Cougar returner watched as the ball bounced once, and then fielded it at the seven yard line. The returner then dodged one would be tackler to the left, cut back to the right as another tackler missed, and then made a third great cut which completely juked cornerback Stuart Gardner out of his shoes. As the returner headed toward the sideline, Summers was no match as the Nanook last resort. A stiffarm right to Summers' neck, a bit of a hop, and the the Universidad Nacional returner was off to the races. Despite all of the Nanook defensive acumen, the Cougars would simply not be shut out in this game.

Still, even with the lead lowered to 21, coach Caligula left in the backup unit, preferring to get his second unit some reps to make sure they were fully prepared for game action. And with the game outcome in little doubt, this time Norton lead the offense down the field using the same type of attack that had worked all day for the Nanooks. Fullback John Yates punched in a three yard exclamation point touchdown as time began to run down.

It was over when...
With the Arctic conditions at Nanook Field and the defense shutting down any legitimate attack of the Cougars, this game was over when the Nanooks punched in a third touchdown to take a 21-0 lead into halftime.

After the game, coach Caligula stated, "Now this is the type of football I know we are capable of! We really went back to the X's and O's this week, and really challenged this team to play with the heart that I know they have. You don't just live in Yukon River Wilderness without the ability to overcome the greatest of odds. I'm very proud of this team right now."

Chena University will have to hope that they can execute as they did at Nanook Field for matchday three, despite taking their play on the road to South Seas University. South Seas University lost a close game to defending champion Ramusok Capital during matchday two.

"His gold and diamonds?" Destiny repeated. "What are you talking about, Fruity?"

"Huesca wants his gold and diamonds," Fruity repeated. "Oh, shit, it's a long story, girls. Shit! Sit down, bitches! You're drawing attention!"

"Drawing attention?" Destiny asked. "Who started shouting and ranting in the first place?" But a look from Fruity, and the fact that he was still holding a jagged bottle neck, made her shut her mouth.

"It's a long story, but here goes," Fruity said to the girls. "A few months ago, Huesca and his boys had a deal going down with some rebel African warlord someplace near here. This warlord wanted to buy some high-quality drugs and guns from Huesca, and in exchange, he'll pay them a billion NS dollars. NS dollars, not just new penenks."

"How did you know all this, man?" Alexandra asked.

"I was just about to get to that part," Fruity said. "You see, this warlord's money wasn't in paper, if you get what I mean. He got gold bars and big, fat diamonds with him. That was his first big mistake in dealing with Huesca. You never bring any money with you if you're meeting with that fat bastard. His second mistake was bringing only a small number of bodyguards with him. His third, and last, mistake was to assume that Huesca would hold up his end of the deal. Nope, when it comes to dealing with Huesca, you should always expect that he will double-cross you one way or another."

"Sounds like you're speaking from experience," Alexandra said. "But that's not my point. How did you know about all this?"

"I had a source in his cartel, duh!" Fruity replied. "What, you think that I just spontaneously know these things about my rivals? Anyway, I was somewhere near where Huesca and that warlord held their meet. Once Huesca's men killed the warlord and his guards, I called the police on them. Hahaha! You should have seen the bastards scrambling around like headless chickens when they heard the sirens! Oh, it was a sight to see! The fat bastard Huesca had his guys split the gold and diamonds before running away from the police. One half made it to him. The other half... didn't."

"Why do I have the feeling that you had something to do with the disappearance with the other half of Huesca's money," Allison muttered.

"You got that right, bitch!" Fruity said. "So there I was, waiting on the side of the road in what may or may not have been a stolen police car, and then a van that I know is one of Huesca's cars comes driving down the road where I'm at. So of course I stopped them. I looked into the van, and so bags upon bags of gold and precious stones. I couldn't help myself. I took it all."

"What did you do to the driver?" Destiny asked. "Or is that too much to ask of you already?"

"Nah, he's not dead if that's what you mean," Fruity replied. "I just tied him up to the back of the van and hid it just by the side of the road. The crocs probably found him that just a few hours after I made the nab."

"Unbelievable, man," Alexandra said. "You even sound proud about it."

"Why wouldn't I be proud?" Fruity said. "That's five hundred million NS dollars in gold and stones! That's much harder to nab than just a paltry three hundred million penenks! Ah, now that was a brave but stupid thing to do. Everyone in the underworld knows that Huesca stashes part of his net worth in the First National Bank, so whoever did that heist must be unsuspecting dumb amateurs."

"Uh, yeah, they're dumb," Alexandra said, a little hastily.

"Okay, about the gold," Fruity said. "I've got an apartment down the street from this bar. I'll feel much safer talking about what I've got in mind once we get there."

"Okay, let's go with that!" Alexandra said. Fruity laid a few bills on the table, and then he led the three girls out of the bar and to a dodgy-looking building just across the street from the bar. It turned out that his apartment was located on the fifth floor, which was also the top floor of the building. Fruity opened the door to his apartment, and then the three girls were suddenly bombarded by a mad flurry of feathers, claws and crowing. "Oh, my God!" Alexandra shouted. "What the hell's in here!?"

"Oh, shit, sorry about that," Fruity replied noncommittally. "I've been breeding some chickens for some underground cockfighting," he said. "I gotta add to my income while I'm in hiding, you know."

"Wait," Allison said as she fended off a particularly aggressive rooster. "Cockfighting's still going on?"

"Of course it's still going on," Fruity said. "That's why it's called underground. You're not supposed to know unless you're an insider."

"God, that's messed up," Allison muttered. "Fruity! Get this feathered bastard off of me!"

"Well, don't just stand there, hold him still!" Fruity shouted, and then he took out a pistol from a hollowed-out book in a desk drawer and began shooting at the mad roosters. "Get some, you feathered assholes!" he cried out.

"Oh my God, Fruity," Destiny said. "What have you been feeding to these roosters?"

"Nothing very dangerous," Fruity replied. "Only raw chicken mean mixed with coke and Mary Jane."

"Coke as in cocaine?" Alexandra asked.

"Duh!" Fruity said. "You don't think I'm gonna feed my prized chickens Coca-Cola, am I? That's shit's more poisonous than cyanide! All right, now give me that last one!"

Allison struggled to hand over the rooster that had been attacking her to Fruity. "Stay still, you son of a bitch!" he cried out. He put his pistol to the rooster's head and pulled the trigger, but the hammer struck only an empty chamber. "Fuck, I'm out!" he said. "I'm sorry, Chicharito, but it's the slow method for you." He took the rooster, stuck it underneath a pillow, and then pressed down hard.

"Don't fight it, Chicharito," he said. "Just go to the light. Don't fight, go to the light." A few minutes later, the pillow finally grew still. "Oh, thank God that's over," he muttered.

"You were saying something about a plan?" Alexandra said.

"Oh, yeah, right." Fruity walked over to his apartment's kitchen table, where a large gray cloth was covering something that was on the table. Fruity removed the cloth, revealing a mockup of what looked like a house sitting on the side of a hill. "I used to own this villa on the Antslinngs," he said, "but after the FNP's first attempt to arrest me, they managed to find out that this was one of my properties, so I don't use it anymore. And since I knew that they knew that I'm not going to this villa anymore, I stashed Huesca's gold there, in a wine cellar. Now, the villa's protected by some state of the art security systems. It's got an automated alarm system that sends out warnings to the nearby police department within 30 seconds of someone breaking in instead of the usual 60 seconds. It's also got a hack-proof system that also sounds the alarm if it detects someone trying to tamper with it, but I already know a way around that."

"Doesn't sound like much," Alexandra muttered.

"But that's not all," Fruity added. "The interior of the villa is littered with knee-high motion sensors connected to the alarm that will sound the alarm if one of them detects something higher than a person's knee inside the house. You wanna know why they're knee-high? It's because there's at least three attack dogs roving the premises, and they've been conditioned to attack any unfamiliar person that comes near them. But don't worry. They know me, so as long as you stick with me, you'll all be okay."

"That doesn't sound very reassuring," Destiny said.

"It wasn't meant to be," Fruity replied. "All right, here's the real plan. Big Boobs here comes with me as we penetrate the villa security." He pointed at Allison. "I'll distract the dogs with my scent, and then Booby and I will go to the alarm's CPU and deactivate them at the same time. Yeah, it's that kind of hacker shit. Then, once the security's disabled, Skinny Ass and Wet Latina will come into the villa and help me get into the wine cellar and get all the gold and diamonds out. Once that's done, we're taking it to Huesca, and you can have your precious Cornelius back. Are we clear on this?"

"I don't know, man," Alexandra said. "This plan sounds like it's gonna fail at the first possible moment."

"That's the point," Fruity replied. "It's a plan so bad, it can only be good in real life."

"Christ, you're crazy, man."

Valanora Times
Raiders Set For Home Opener

Mar Sara Tech has played their first two games in their first NSCF season on the road, traveling to Greater Vakolicci Haven in the first week and suffering a disappointing loss, before traveling to Estinia in the second week and finding a way to power to victory. With two games now under their belt and seemingly having taken some of the knocks needed to get adjusted to the level of play in the NSCF, the Raiders come back home and prepare for their home opener in Mar Sara, with Ancient University Sondestadt coming to Lathalein Celestial Stadium. They, like the Raiders first week opponents in Royal University Roma, hail from Greater Vakolicci Haven. Roma was able to use their home advantage to perform the five minute offense at the end of the game, driving ninety yards for the game winning touchdown. The Raiders will be hoping that sixty thousand screaming Vanorians will be able to provide that same support and then some.

This marks a huge occasion for Tech and Mar Sara, as they look to get out from underneath the shadow of the capital when it comes to sporting prowess, though the news of the Raynor City Raptors winning the HCL has made the mountain a bit steeper. Tech has always had good collegiate programs, with the team performing well in both trips they have made to the NSCAA tournament, as well as the numerous trophies they have from domestic tournaments. However what they lack is a championship banner, they lack international recognition. What they do not lack for is pride nor a pool to choose from when it comes to the various sporting programs in Mar Sara, as the heart of the breadbasket in Valanora, many between the Gahandria and Arewl coming to Mar Sara as they reach adulthood.

As for the team, what is concerning is how both Roma and Columba have been able to slow down and contain the offense. While not exactly a pass happy offense, the offense is known for those quick five to ten yard throws that keep the chains moving and opening up running space for the dynamic backs. That has not been the case these first two games, with Columba and Roma jamming the receivers at the line and blitzing their linebackers through the gaps to stop the running game. It has made the wonderful displays by the defense, which has held both teams to under 300 yards on offense, almost for nothing. The tight ends need to be getting open more and the receivers need to adjust to the jamming tactics if the Raiders are to get into their normal stride.

After this home game with Sondestadt, the Raiders will once more be heading away from the friendly confines of Valanora, and into The Sword Bloke, before finishing the first half of the season back in Mar Sara. This means that the second half of the season will be played primarily in Mar Sara for the Raiders, but they will need to be in contention to make those home games matter. Although just through two games of the season, you can see how the team could either really well and find themselves into the championship hunt, or poorly and perhaps even finish last place. Such is the topsy turvy nature of sports and we can only hope that the flip of the coin lands our way.

Inexperience Burns as Honu Fall to Dragons
Story by Abraham Shepherd

Ramusok, Cosumar—After a matchday one victory over Universidad Nacional, it appeared to some that the South Seas University Honu could adjust well to the more competitive NSCF college football division. But in a game against the Ramusok Capital Dragons that included a great deal of pregame hype, that notion came to a bit of a halt during matchday two. While the game lived up to its top ten billing, there is more of a learning curve than previously acknowledged for the Honu. The number one ranked and defending champion Dragons sent the Honu packing with their first loss of the season, defeating South Seas University 24-20.

The lack of experience at this level for the Honu was not the only storyline of the day. General player inexperience at the college level undertoned the effort by South Seas University throughout the game. Freshman Estancio Abascal muffed a punt early in the second quarter, and second year players Satchel King and Ezra Talbot were not on the same page during a fourth quarter interception that may have cost the Honu the win.

The interception came on South Seas University's final drive of the game. On the previous drive, Ramusok Capital had been driving down the field, already leading 21-20. But after the Honu defense had come up with a big stop at their own 28 yard line, the Dragons were forced to settle for a field goal with 1:38 remaining to force the Honu to score a touchdown to win the game. With no timeouts remaining, Talbot went to work with the Honu offense.

It appeared early in the drive that Talbot might play the role of the hero in this game, as he completed passes of 21 and 16 yards, respectively, to tight end Levi Savage and wide receiver Jude Basil. After an incomplete pass in the direction of Daniel Pascual, inexperience took its toll. Talbot dropped back for a pass, but under pressure from Ramusok Capital defender Dag Wolfenheim, Talbot made a poor decision as he threw into double coverage. Talbot was trying to hit star wide receiver King, who was the first read on the play. Instead, the ball was originally tipped by Dragon cornerback Matan Zelcha and ended up in defender Dexter Singleton's arms. The Dragon offense then took two kneel downs to end the game.

"It was a tough way to lose the game," Honu head coach Goose Carneghy admitted afterward. "These guys are still learning. You know, we had a particularly strong recruiting class a couple of years ago. And its these guys—Talbot, King, [Wolf] Valentine, [Gideon] Ali'iloa—that are leading our team right now. And we know these guys are going to be crucial leaders throughout this season and for a couple more years. But until they get a little bit more experience—we know there is a learning curve. Ezra just made a poor read; it was a mistake that could have been avoided with a few more games under his belt. We had played Ramusok so well going into that drive. This one leaves a bit of a sting."

Prior to the interception, the game had been close throughout. The Honu actually had an early lead after capitalizing on the first drive of the game. A touchback on the opening kick gave the ball to the Honu at the twenty yard line, but Talbot mixed in a number of passes with the zone read running game, and soon enough the Honu were on the Dragon eighteen. Another running play was the call on second and six, and Talbot pulled the ball from senior runningback Samuel Marshall for his first keep of the day. As the defense collapsed on Marshall, Talbot headed to the right sideline with dayllight ahead. Free safety Lewis Sprawles did not quite have the angle on Talbot, as the quarterback dived for the endzone for the first score.

Ramusok Capital answered the score on their first possesion. The drive started with some stellar running by Avery Broddick, who hit the holes in stride and showed why he was voted as an All-Cosumar player. But after a run for no gain on second and seven, quarterback Tobias Engel found receiver Akim Fjara wide open on a seam route that went for 36 yards. On the very next play, the Dragons ran a run fake to Broddick and gashed the Honu for another first down to tight end Lucas Castillo. With two big passes in a row, the Honu defense doubled down for what was an assumed run. A third straight pass came from Engel, this time into the arms of Mordeus Devane in the back of the endzone. The entire drive was a beautiful example of film study, as the Honu played one step behind the Dragons for its entirety, unsure what play might come next.

After the opening drives, it appeared the game might be in for a shootout. However, each defense settled down a bit and the game remained tied at seven until early in the second quarter. After a third down stop by the Honu, the Dragons were forced to punt. Punt returner Estancio Abascal stood at the Honu 34 yard line, feet firmly planted as he awaited the ball. However, he took his eyes off the ball at the last second, focusing his attention downfield. The ball skirted through his arms and was recovered by Ramusok Capital. Six plays later Broddick went into the endzone for the Dragon's second score.

It was the second time in as many games that Abascal failed to secure the ball in what amounted to a turning point in the game. Last week against Universidad Nacional, Abascal dropped what would have been a sure touchdown after he had beaten the defender on a third down play. The Honu werer forced to kick a field goal in the game against the Cougars. Coach Carneghy commented on Abascal's early season lack of focus saying "Estancio's got to keep his eyes on the ball. I think he has been plagued by being the freshman out there, trying to make a big play. But he's got to learn that big plays go the other way too. First priority is to secure the ball, then make the big play. We'll have to work on his ball handling skills a bunch in the coming week."

Despite the Dragon score, it was a tit for tat kind of day on the gridiron at Capital Coliseum. Neither team appeared willing to let the other get a leg up for long. On the ensuing Honu possession, Talbot began the Honu drive by hitting his brother Jonas for a ten yard screen pass. Talbot to Talbot was the call once again on the next play, as the younger runningback motioned into the slot and caught a seam pass for another eighteen. With running lanes now open, the quarterback returned to the running game, with a gashing twelve yard run from Samuel Marshall. In three plays the Honu had gained forty yards to come into Dragon territory. A bubble screen to King gained another seven yards before Jonas Talbot picked up a third personal first down in the series with a five yard run, all without the Honu seeing a third down. On the next play, an Ezra Talbot keeper gained three yards, followed by a handoff to Marshall which gained another five. On the first third down of the series, Ezra Talbot pulled the ball from Marshall and rolled right. As the defense pursued him, Talbot maintained his eye contact downfield, where he saw tight end Levi Savage whom the defense had lost track of in the scramble. Savage had sat on his route at the five yard line, and once the pass from Talbot came, took the ball into the endzone. The score, however, did not come to a tie, as a poor snap on the try forced backup quarterback and holder Bristol Gabriel to abandon the extra point attempt and improvise a two point try. His desperation pass sailed out of the endzone.

The second half saw once again the back and forth nature of these two top-ten teams. Ramusok University took the second half kickoff down the field, methodically moving the ball down the field in what ended as an Akim Fjara touchdown pass on a three yard fade route to the corner of the endzone. However, the defensive adjustments made by both the Dragons and the Honu at halftime made a world of difference, as neither team could score for the remainder of the quarter.

The Honu would revive the scoring in the fourth. After back to back five yard runs by Marshall and Jonas Talbot, Ezra Talbot found wide receiver Anselm Chancellor down the field for a gain of sixteen. Another run by Marshall was followed by a big first down by the gargantuan Savage, who gained eleven yards on the play. The next play, a run by Jonas Talbot, lost one yard. But coach Carneghy dialed up a big play directed toward King, who had been quiet thanks to double coverage all day. When the Dragons dialed in on man to man coverage, Ezra Talbot let loose, leading King down the sideline. King had just enough separation from the Ramusok Capital defender, and after making a leaping catch at the four yard line had just enough to cross the goal line. Although Carneghy considered the two point try which would have tied the game if successful, he thought otherwise and settled for the extra point to bring the score to 21-20.

It was a decision that became a critical swing late in the game. After the above mentioned fourth quarter field goal by Ramusok Capital, the Honu were forced to go down the field trying to score a touchdown to win the game. This situation moved the Honu into a bit more aggressive play calling, rather than if they had more time to work with had they only needed the field goal. The scenario eventually ended with the Talbot interception to end the game.

Regardless the loss, the Honu proved that they could run with the best teams in the NSCF, and gave a resounding answer to crtics who felt they had moved into Sporting World's top ten list prematurely. Indeed, the Sporting World voters responded with even more faith in the Honu, who moved up a spot to number nine despite the tally mark in the loss column. It was an encouraging testament to the tenacity and potential of this Honu team in their inaugural NSCF season. Still, the fact remains that this team was not quite good enough to compete at a championship level, an omen that bodes poorly given that the Honu have one of the toughest schedules remaining. Even so, it was exactly this tough schedule that gave Carneghy some hope. "We were right there with them," Carneghy stated after the game. "We've got to make a few adjustments here and there, but I think we will be able to bounce back. Don't forget we still get another game against Ramusok later in the season—at home too. If we prove that we can compete against the upper tiers of the NSCF rankings in the rest of the schedule, we will be right there in the playoff picture at the end of the season."

The Honu finally head home to The Plumeria Garden in the upcoing third matchday, one that will bring the 1-1 Chena University Nanooks to Costa Aluria. The rare Thursday night game will give poll voters a good chance to view the Honu and the Nanooks both with fewer distractions from the greater NSCF. The Nanooks have been a polarizing team in the first two weeks, getting dismantled in the opener to Stoneshore University while handing a resounding loss to Universidad Nacional in matchday two. Which Nanook team that decides to show up will be one of the main storylines in matchday three. Kickoff is at 7:15 PM local time.

The Plumeria Garden
Ali'i Conference Room
Mosaic, Costa Aluria

------------

"Could you hand me that set of kukuis?"

"Not really Leilani. Get them yourself."

In the Ali'i Conference room, the main Honu cheerleaders were getting ready for the home opener. The had dubbed themselves as "The Hula Girls" many seasons ago when the Honu were still playing at a lower level of competition. The name was an appropriate fit. With the tropical islands of Costa Aluria as the backdrop, it made a lot of sense to play up the culturally appropriate designation. The hula was, afterall, a critically important piece of Costa Alurian culture, as it also plays out in the many Polynesian islands.

It was a bit different for the girls to be getting ready on a Thursday night instead of the typical Saturday, but today's home opener against the Chena University Nanooks had been scheduled some time ago. The Honu would take the opportunity as it came. Despite the short week and long travel after a premier opponent, it was an opportunity to showcase to the NSCF world their talents without being muddled by the remaining games of matchday three. Some in the football world had thought their jump into Sporting World's top ten rankings was a bit premature. This was the Honu's chance to silence their critics after their attempt at toppling the number one team had failed on the last drive in matchday two.

But for The Hula Girls, it was business as normal. Sure, every visitiing team seemed captivated by their tropical gyrations that accentated their tropical regions, and whenver there was a high profile television crew in town they got a little bit of camera time from game producers looking to play up the sterotype. But to the girls, they were not only showing their stuff as the Honu cheerleaders, but engaging in activity that they had learned and revered since they were keikis. So even with a little pregame animosity between the ladies—and really, what college cheerleading squad didn't have a bit of friendly jibing going on—the ladies were prepared to represent not just the Honu but all of the South Seas Islands.

Their routine had been jazzed up a little, of course, but that was to be at least somewhat expected. With the gently swayings of the hula an unertoned reminder of the laid back life in the islands, the girls certainly had to add in some touch of the college hoo-rah-rah that kept fans excited for the whole game. It was an important piece of The Plumeria Garden puzzle. The crowd would no doubt be led further by the raucous playing of the Honu rally orchestra, who could be heard out on the field warming up with the Honu fight song. The cheerleaders, the band, the smart crowd—it all added up to one thing: 140 decibels. This stadium had a reputation to keep as one of the loudest in the college football scene.

In one corner of the room Leilani was getting ready, and she had thought that her designation as the cheer captain would have given here a bit more prestige than the other girls. But tonight, it wasn't happening.

Still, the girls put on their cheer uniforms with care. They always picked some sort of dress appropriate to their name, with some kind of hula themed outfit. Sometimes it was a tropical dress in Honu colors, other times a colorful top with a fabric skirt. Often times they would include ceremonial headdresses, armbands, and anklets. Tonight's choice was a traditional ti leaf skirt finished with a strapless top in Honu yellow, and accentuated by kukui nut leis, ipu, and of course coordinating flowers.

Flowers were a bit of a theme in this stadium, following closely to the culture of the South Seas Islanders. It is not uncommon for Costa Alurian women to wear flowers adorning their hair or pinned to their tops as a brooch. South Seas Islander men are even known to wear boutonniere florals on their shirts. Floral print fashions abound in any Costa Alurian crowd. And of course there are the fresh flower leis which are worn by both men and women and are considered just as appropriate to wear to a wedding as they are to a football game. Without question, many in the crowd today would be wearing a garland around their neck.

What many outsiders don't know is that a lei is traditionally worn equidistant around the neck, with half of it draped in front and half in the back. Any Nanook fans or others who had made the long trip and were in the crowd wearing a lei would likely be easily spotted by their improper wearing of the lei decoration. But since the lei is about showing the loving presence of aloha hospitality, the South Seas Islander crowd would forgive this ignorance as they do with all tourists. And since the islands of Costa Aluria were one of the favorite holiday spots for those from Yukon River Wilderness, it was feasible that there might be a significant number of Nanook fans in attendance, trying to escape the winter temperatures of their homeland.

Most of the crowd had already filled into their seats even though the players themselves had just started their warmups. Some of the crowd were probably at the concessions bays in the inner part of the stadium, where one of the local favorites was the goat-filled stuffed peppers. The Hula Girls finished their pregame preparations and headed out onto the field. "Here we go ladies!" Leilani excitedly shouted to the rest of the squad. "It's game time!"
