I wasn't going to mention that, but yes, you did. :)

Perhaps this is a hint that the locals need to build an expansion. Or not.

NSSCRA Preview

With the Penthoria Electronics 400 in Secristan now quickly approaching, it's about time we released our preview for the second season of NSSCRA action. With a vastly shortened season, consistency and luck really will be keys to the championship. Short track specialists will have the smallest of advantages, as the schedule features 4 short tracks to 3 speedways and 3 road courses. This will no doubt please Calvin Emberton, who seems to have sacrificed all semblance of qualifying speed for skill on short tracks.

Speaking of Emberton, the driver of the number 27 De Relikt is one of the pre-season favourites to take the title. The Chesterfield-native will still be feeling pumped after a tremendous late-season surge that saw him take 2 wins, 8 top fives, and 10 top tens over the last 11 races. As previously stated, Emberton has seemingly lost any and all pace in qualifying conditions, though this soon rectifies itself once raceday comes. However, there is some cause for concern, as 2 of the tracks Emberton took victory on last season are no longer on the calendar.

Kyle Onasi, on the other hand, will simply be seeking to close out a long and glorious career in a respectable fashion. Onasi's sights are unusually low, as he is simply seeking at least one win and a top ten points finish. Regardless of whether or not Onasi meets these goals is irrelevant to anyone else; he will always be remembered as one of the best stock car drivers over the last 30 years. There is still no word on who will take on the driving duties of the #28 car next season, but it is generally assumed that it will be Kyle Onasi Jr.

Denny Cummings will head into the season with no pressure or expectations. The reigning JSCC A-Series champion, Cummings competed in the last 2 races of last season, replacing the lacklustre Jason Antilles. With a 3 year contact guaranteeing his future in the series, Cummings will seek to keep his head down and hope he can prove his worth. He is one of the primary candidates for rookie of the year

The team will be using an evolution of the De Relikt Continental R06-SB developed specifically for NSSCRA competition. Designated the R07-SN, it has been tested extensively by Emberton, Onasi, and Cummings, ensuring it will perform satisfactorily this season.

Moving on to the other teams now, first up will be Woods Motorsport. Defending champ Chip Woods and road course star Cathy Trillium will both return, and likely continue their success. Woods will certainly be enjoying the short track-centered nature of the schedule, and will be one of the protagonists for the championship once again. However, short tracks have been a notable weakness for Trillium, so it will be interesting to see how she will cope with them making up 40% of the schedule. The team will add a third car to their operation, driven by rookie Kenny Valdemar. Known more for his football/soccer connections than his driving talent it seems, Valdemar will be hoping to end that and challenge for rookie of the year honours.

The Delaclava Racing Team will also return. Despite a promising start to last season, Jeff Connolly, and indeed, the entire team, seemed to fall into mediocrity after the mid-season break. With a shortened schedule, they will certainly be hoping to avoid a similar fate to the first season. Look out for Connolly, though - he may well be a dark horse for the championship. Connolly's teammates remain as Tony Abbott and Marco Perez

Cassadaigua Racing will be hoping for a season just a little better than last. Second in the final points standings with Kirsten Hopkins, and seemingly second best of all the 3-car operations. The only team to win with all 3 cars to date, there is nothing to prevent them - except, perhaps, the shortened schedule - from repeating that feat this season. Hopkins will likely battle for the championship again, and her consistency should serve her well. Danielle Pearson and Ashley Clarke will remain Hopkins' teammates.

The first of the series' newcomers to sign up is Hodori Motorsports. One of the teams looking to emulate Woods Motorsport's success from last season, they will run a two-car operation. Open wheel and road course ace Lien Murakami will pilot the 9 car, with touring car star Min Kyung Okada her teammate in the 19. Over a season, many expect Okada to come out on top over the season, due to his touring car experience and balanced skill, though Murakami is tipped to eclipse him over a long-term period.

Taeshan Racing will also retain their drivers AJ Henderson, Ambrose Douglas, and Colby Andretti. The team was the overall best, owing to their drivers' balanced skillsets. Expect them to remain the best overall team, with Henderson in the 14 challenging for the title.

Hailing from Warkus is the new Rivera Motersport team. Leading the team will be the experienced Hariuoyn Von Sarno, with his younger brother Bron Von Sarno and Darnell Track partnering him. One of the more exciting new entries, the team is tipped to do quite well, should interest remain. The elder Von Sarno is himself tipped as a potential rookie of the year.

Lleyton Motorsports is a pseudo-newcomer to the sport, having run the season finale with Paul Bryne. Now expanding to 2 cars, Bryne will relish the 4 short tracks on the schedule, though his skill elsewhere leaves something to be desired, but is still one of the major candidates for rookie of the year. A curious choice of driver partners him, with endurance star John De Saal in the 2nd Lleyton. Perhaps the team owners are hoping his road course skill will rub off on Bryne?

Secristan Racing will return retaining their lineup of Chris Sullivan, Eric Murphy, and Matthew Schaefer. While all 3 have shown a marked weakness on road courses, they are also among the fastest on an oval. Schaefer is expected to lead the team again, though it remains to be seen whether his newfound weakness will hamper his efforts to take the championship.

Another new team for the season is BRT Grand Prix, who will be entering 2 cars. Mingus Shouten, a two-time champ in the national stock car series, is the team's designated first driver, but experts predict that teammate Wilhelm Stuyler will upset the team order, after finishing second to Shouten twice. Whether or not this will lead to intra-team disharmony is another thing, but either way, Stuyler is a primary candidate for rookie of the year.

SportSat Ad’ihan Racing was one of the more surprisingly successful teams in the NSSCRA season, and this has seen their operation expand to a 3 car team. Ryan Wilkins remains, but the team loses Matthew Portland as the Liventian signed with JIM in the WGPC in what could have been a conflict of interest. Frederic Houte and Mike Costwin are the new drivers, both being much less well-rounded than Wilkins.

The East Lithuania Stock Racing Team is another 2-car newcomer. Michael Grabow and Jimmy Mongioj will be the team's drivers. Not a lot is known about the entry, but Mongioj is suspected to be the stronger driver, possibly even a contender for rookie of the year.

Team Newmanistan is the last of the returnees. Erica Phillips and Mike Carroll retain their drives, but the team has quietly dropped Chris Miller in favour of Jason Conroy. After a surprisingly off-colour first season from a nation so motorsport-inclined, the team is expected to step it up on all fronts in order to get into contention this season. As a result, Phillips may be an outside challenger for the title, with Conroy one of the major rookie of the year contenders.

Shavelle Racing will also be fielding two cars in their inaugural season, one for veteran Sean Merkins and another for youngster sensation KenTwan Balmer. Balmer is the premier driver in the national stock car series, though curiously, experts peg Merkins as having the edge, and a possible contender for rookie of the year.

The Lazuril Racing Team will be entering cars for Kyle Buzbee and Mike Stroud for the season. Little is known about the drivers, and the team itself, though they may surprise.

The confusingly-named NASCAR Start and Parks Racing team will also field a single car, for Terry Cook. Cook is one of the best drivers on a speedway, though a lack of proficiency on other circuits will harm his chances.

The Pelsons Ale Race Team is the penultimate team to sign up for competition. Fielding two cars, one for Gordon Gordon Jr., and the other for Alan Addail, Addail is the more well-rounded driver, while Gordon is a contender on any track longer than a mile.

And finally, we come to the Muskeegan Racing team. Again, they are a 2-car operation, their drivers being JJ Hoya Jr. and Cal Sebring. The drivers are fairly evenly matched, and either or both could surprise.

Goodbye Doc
The Story of a Legend

Born on 4 October 1960, in the rural town of Quentin in eastern Jeffgordonville, Kyle was the youngest of 4 children born to Justin and Martha Onasi. On the weekend of Kyle's birth, Justin won his 3rd and last Jeffgordonville Stock Car Championship, beating out then-hotshot rookie William Emberton. Little did anyone know at the time that this would be the last championship won by an Onasi for over 2 decades, as the Onasi's family rivals, the Embertons, took dominance in Jeffgordonvillian motorsports for the next two decades. Kyle, however, quickly displayed an affinity for racing at the age of 8, beating his older siblings, Clyde, 19, Barbara, 15, and Valin, 12, in a family karting race in early 1969. This quickly raised some exclamation marks over young Kyle's head, and by the end of the year, he was competing in the Jeffgordonville Under-13's Karting Trophy, keeping up with, and sometimes beating, kids up to 3 years older than him.

Kyle continued a steady rise through the junior karting ranks, astonishing all who watched him. In an interview in 1973, a 13-year old Kyle stated that the main motivating factor for him was to beat the Embertons in anything he could, racing being the thing he was best at. In 1975 Justin arranged for Kyle to begin racing late models at the Quentin Dirt Speedway. It took some time for Kyle to adapt, but by mid-1976, Onasi had mastered them, and quickly found himself moving on the the JSCC B-Series, for younger drivers looking to progress to the top level A-Series. After winning 3 races in his rookie 1977 season, Kyle took 1978 by storm, winning 7 races and securing a seat in the A-Series at Onasi Racing alongside brother Clyde.

Kyle immediately showed that he had what it took to compete at the top, being unlucky to miss out on victory as he finished second an agonising 6 times. As if that wasn't enough, each time, it was to William Emberton. William was en route to his 5th and final title at the time, before passing the family torch on to his younger brother Walter, who would soon prove to be Kyle's nemesis. Kyle showed a considerable lack of consistency during the season, though, and wound up 14th in points, albeit rookie of the year. At the end of the season, Kyle was sat down by his father, Justin, and through the off-season, was taught to be consistent, resulting in what would come to be known as The Doc.

The sit down immediately paid dividends, as Kyle pulled off several surgically precise overtakes to take victory in the 1980 season opener, the Pepsi 1000, the first of his 107 A-Series wins. It would be the only win for Kyle this season, but strong consistent finishes saw him wind up a solid 7th overall by season's end. In 1981, Kyle won 3 more races, and was Walter Emberton's main title rival, though was unable to dislodge Emberton from the points lead, settling for 2nd. The next year, though, Kyle took the championship by storm, winning 6 races and winning by a massive 350 points. Kyle's A-Series successes seemed to inspire confidence in his siblings, as they too all became genuine championship contenders in their own chosen disciplines. Kyle's championship defence was quite strong, though some troubles at the start of the '83 season dug a hole he was never able to fully climb out of, as brother Clyde picked up his one and only A-Series title. The next year saw Troy Harder romp away to an early series lead with 6 wins from the first 10 races, only to be injured with 3 races to go, allowing Kyle a shot at claiming his second championship. Unfortunately for Kyle, he had a couple run ins with other drivers, and in fact slipped to 3rd overall, Harder just barely hanging on for the championship.

1985 saw Kyle win 3 of the first 5 races, propelling him into a championship lead that lasted through most of the season. However, a late surge in form from Walter Emberton ensured that Kyle would have to wait once more for his second championship. 1986 would finally bear fruit for Kyle, as he won 4 times and took the championship by over 300 points, maintaining an iron grip on the championship at all times. After the successes of 1986, 1987 was something of a disappointment, with Janson's new Thunderbolt proving too much for the LM Beaver SS utilised by Onasi Racing. Kyle finished up 6th, while Jimmy Marlino took the A-Series title, the main beneficiary of Janson's gains. 1988 and 1989 saw more and more teams switch to Jansons, with Kyle slipping to 9th, and then 10th as a result. However, after months of negotiations, Justin Onasi finally secured Thunderbolts for Onasi Racing's use in 1990, and that meant a return to success just around the corner for Kyle.

After taking a record-equalling 9 wins in 1989, Walter Emberton was certainly looking forward to a season long battle with Kyle Onasi for 1990, now that both had the superior Thunderbolt. The season opening Pepsi 1000 garnered record viewing figures as fans everywhere tuned in to what would surely be a battle of the titans. They were duly disappointed, as Kyle thoroughly dominated the event. It wasn't going to get much better, as the Doc's devastating consistent speed returned, seeing him take 5 more wins and his 3rd championship by over 400 points from Walter. 1991 was even better with 10 wins seeing Kyle win by 450 points, and 11 victories in 1992 securing a mammoth 500 point advantage for Kyle by season's end. Kyle's last win in 1992 took his win tally to 52, seizing the title of winningest driver in the A-Series from Walter at 32 years old, an honour he holds to this day. Fortunately for fans, Emberton Motorsports got their act together in 1993, and Walter won his 6th record breaking championship in a thrilling battle between him and Kyle that went down to the wire. 1994 was more of the same, this time Kyle coming out on top, sealing his own 6th championship. A-Series popularity at this point was never higher, as no-one wanted to miss the nation's two greatest drivers fight for the ultimate prize.

1994 was the last of the Walter Emberton/Kyle Onasi epic duels, however, as a horrifying crash in the 1995 Pepsi 1000 saw Walter's 43 years finally catch up with him. He was never quite the same driver again. Instead, Kyle would battle with the relatively unknown Firmus Duncan for the 1995 title. To everyone's surprise, this would not go in Onasi's favour, as an engine failure would hand Duncan his first A-Series championship. Kyle bounced back for 1996, taking the championship in traditional dominant style. After winning 5 of the last 7 championships, however, JSCC officials decided to intervene, and came up with drastic changes for the 1997 season in order to lessen Onasi's stranglehold on the series. The new rules suited Firmus Duncan just fine as he romped on to take the '97 and '98 championships, but Onasi struggled to get up to speed, finishing a distant 10th in 1997, and not doing much better in 1998, until he was sidelined by a fiery crash at Carson Park. Wounded but still kicking, Kyle returned later in the year, and closed out the season with 4 straight top 10's. That would prove to be the platform on which Kyle made his return to form, mounting a championship challenge in 1999, only to be denied at the last moment by Alex McFarland. Kyle had made his point, though - you can not keep him down for long.

The 2000 season was one of the most wide open in all of JSCC history. Going into the final race, Kyle was going up against Alex McFarland, Firmus Duncan, Jason Antilles, and rookie phenom Calvin Emberton, son of Walter, a man who was quite eager to take his father's place as Kyle Onasi's nemesis. Each had taken 3 wins, and all 5 were separated by a meagre 37 points, Kyle coming in 4th, 26 behind. On lap 472 of the Jay's Burger Bar 500, Kyle elected to take 2 tyres on his final stop, after fighting with the 4 other contenders for the win most of the day. This saw him take the lead of the race, just ahead of the notoriously bad restarter, Timothy Parlons. Parlons made a complete mess of the restart, triggering a crash which eliminated Kyle's rivals, ensuring Kyle took his 8th title. The next year, Onasi Racing was tempted to leave the Janson fold after a lucrative offer from relative newcomer De Relikt. De Relikt had been making steady progress since their entrance into JSCC competition in 1997, and their new Continental R06-S was potentially a massive step forward, something Kyle did not want to miss out on. In 2001 and 2002, however, the De Relikts were just not on quite the same level as the Jansons and LMs, seeing Kyle slip to 9th and 8th, while Calvin Emberton and Jason Antilles won their first championships. Underwhelmed by the Continental's lack of performance, Kyle switched back to Janson Thunderbolts for 2003, just in time for his 9th championship, a close fought battle with Calvin Emberton that was decided when Emberton went on a tyre puncture spree in the last third of the season.

For 2004, De Relikt made some more noise about their new car, the Continental R06-SB, claiming they had fixed the flaws in the R06-S. Onasi Racing passed up the offer, and so the opportunity was given to Emberton Motorsports. The car proved to be devastatingly fast, with Calvin winning the first 5 races of the season. Emberton Motorsports then quickly signed a 3 year exclusive agreement with De Relikt, much to the annoyance of everyone else. All Kyle could do was watch helplessly as Calvin proceeded to smash Kyle's record for most wins in a season, winning 15 times in 2004, 13 in 2005, and an earth-shattering 17 victories in 2006. Kyle was resigned to runner up in 2004 and 2005, but relations between Onasi Racing and Janson became frosty, as Kyle had made it perfectly clear he would not be running anything other than a De Relikt Continental R06-SB in 2007 and beyond. In retaliation, Janson cut off all manufacturer support for Onasi Racing, leaving them to run year old Thunderbolts for 2006. And yet, Kyle still wound up 4th, taking 2 wins.

In 2007, Kyle relished the opportunity to race the De Relikt, though his task of taking the title was an uphill one, as Calvin and Emberton Motorsports had had 3 years to get used to the car. Still, Kyle kept in touch through most of the season, and with 3 races to go, was a respectable 173 points behind Calvin. Winning the last 3 races on the schedule, whilst Emberton was caught up in crashes, turned the tide back to Kyle, allowing him to take an unprecedented 10th championship. At the start of the 2008 season, however, Onasi wrote off his chances of an 11th championship, stating that he felt keeping in touch with Calvin was starting to get beyond him. Kyle won 3 times to finish 2nd overall, holding off a resurgent Jason Antilles. Despite this, the Doc was visibly slower than Calvin throughout the season, unable to prevent a 5th title going to his rival. 2008 was full of rumours speculating a retirement at the end of the season for Kyle, and he had scheduled a press conference the week before the Pepsi 1000 to announce his intentions for the future. And then, something unexpected happened.

One of Kyle's biggest regrets was the fact that there was no world stock car series for him to see how good he really was. It was something he had been very vocal about, so when a Newmanistani-led coalition proposed the launch of the NSSCRA, or NationStates Stock Car Racing Association, it was not a big surprise when he cancelled the press conference. 2 weeks later, Kastin Douglas, CEO of Jeffgordonville International Motorsports, announced his intention to field a Jeffgordonvillian team, consisting of the 3 greatest active Jeffgordonvillian stock car drivers - Calvin Emberton, Kyle Onasi, and Jason Antilles, all driving the greatest Jeffgordonvillian stock car of all time, the De Relikt R06-SB. For Kyle, the season started miserably, with no top 10 finishes in the first quarter of the season. A 6th-place in the Grand Prix of Batwins Moor finally got Onasi moving, and by the mid-point in the season, had finally broken into the top 10. A mid-season slump by Calvin saw Kyle nearly pass him in the points, but it soon ended as Calvin returned to championship contention. After winning the 23rd event of the season, the Colhi 400 in Uiri, Kyle wound up an impressive 7th overall, not too shabby for the oldest driver in the field. During the season, however, Kyle announced that 2010 will be his final racing season, as he contests the NSSCRA for a second and final time. Kyle Onasi is far from the favourite to take the championship, but never count him out - the Doc always bounces back. Always.

HVS: Currently No, though i knew Darnell from Lower-Class School
SM: Are you planning to go further after a few seasons, like go into the GP champs?

STOCK CAR RACING? COOL!

Stock Car Racing?

Burchadinger may now be known for its football, but we have now entered the NSSCRA and with a great motivated team, with great drivers. 27 year old Mingus Shouten is the veteran, and the BSCC Champion is expected to be the best driver for the team, well, by most of the public. Many pundits say, his 22 year old team mate Wilhelm Stuyler will shine instead. Well, who wins and who doesn't, you will find out.

Hodori Motorsports to go International

After a bid for the NS World Touring Car Series fizzled, Hodori Motorsports will begin its first international race with the start of NSSCRA season 2. The drivers are Lien Zenko Murakami (#9) of the open-wheel Hodori GP and Min Kyung Kaysennen Okada (#19) from the touring car Hodori SGP.

Although Kaiyotoshi International Raceway did not make the list, Okada is confident his experience on oval circuits will make up for the lack of a familiar road course. Murakami expressed mild dissappointment with no races being held in Hodori, but has stated that more international tracks will help her improve. "At least half of the field drops out during Hodoran day races due to heat stroke," she added. Murakami expects to be able to finish within the top ten on at least one of the season's three road courses, but does not quite expect the same level of performance on qualifying runs.

Kaiyotoshi International Raceway, formerly known as Bayside Raceway, has yet to live up to its new name as an international circuit, but may make an appearance in later seasons.

Hodori Prime Minister Jay Hwa Sakamoto is expected to attend the first race of the season in Secristan.

THE ROCKET REPORT

QUALIFYING THIS WEEKEND

East Penthoria, Secristan- It’s been such a long time since we’ve heard the sound of powerful stock car engines, and the memories of Chip Woods championship run over Kirsten Hopkins and A.J. Henderson, with the hard-closing Calvin Emberton still may ring in our heads, but are becoming more distant. Chip Woods wants to repeat. Hopkins, Henderson, and Emberton want to finish with a title of their own and a bunch of other returning drivers want to show that they will be better this time out. Then we have some faces we haven’t seen before, some from nations that didn’t participate in the last version. Certainly they are the top drivers in their country, but how good will they be on the world’s largest stage?

Then there’s team Newmanistan, the nation in which the headquarters of the NSSCRA resides. We were eager to show the world just how well we do this stock car racing thing, but instead got shown up a little bit. This year, the preparations are better, and the team expects to have a stronger season. Erica Phillips, considered the top driver, told us, “We’ve spent the off-season trying to learn what we could do differently. As a nation, we showed some strength, but the nations of The Babbage Islands and Taeshan clearly showed they have better programs, and other nations also were probably better then us. We don’t like being the fourth best racing nation on One Big Island, but let’s face it, if you look at the results from last year, that is where we were. It was motivation for us all to work twice or thrice as hard to figure out what we could do better, and I think we have shown improvement.”

We can only hope. One thing that will certainly benefit the returning drivers in NSSCRA is that they are returning to tracks they have been on before, with a couple of exceptions. Last year, for example, Secristani drivers had a huge advantage in their familiarity with the East Penthoria Speedway because they’ve raced on it previously. Other drivers got experience in practice, but that paled in comparison to what the Secristani drivers had obtained. Now, all these returning drivers have been here before, and can refer to their notes from last year. This could play a major role in some drivers, who were non-factors last season, showing major improvement this year. This scene will play out at all tracks that see a second NSSCRA race. For the debutants, they will be looking to gain that experience, but even they can look back at the previous years race to see how it went to use in their preparations. The biggest change in the NSSCRA this year is the schedule as the way too long schedule of last time has been cut down to 10 races. “It’s a chase, so to speak,” Phillips said, “I think everyone involved with this last year realized that it was too long, and shortening the schedule will benefit everyone. It should also make for more competitive racing. I’m excited.”

So are we. Qualifying Saturday! Let’s start those engines.

(OOC: To clarify, I originally said qualifying was Saturday, January 22nd. This is kind of hard when Saturday is the 23rd. The intention was for it to be Saturday and not the "22nd". So I have fixed this to say what I meant and that qualifying is indeed Saturday, but Saturday the 23rd!)

BADEN, Daimler (BPA) -- It's time for another international stock car season. And for Woods Motorsport, it's also time for lead driver Chip Woods to defend his hard-won NSSCRA title.

The NSSCRA series will be much shorter this year, 10 races instead of 30. Forty-four cars have been entered from around the world. The Woods team will have three drivers this year instead of two. In addition to the familiar #8 of the defending champion and #42 of sixth-place driver Cathy Trillium, the #77 Tesla-Benz will be driven by 21-year-old Kenny Valdemar, son of the football mogul Richard Valdemar.

Woods started his career on classic short tracks like Belgium Speedway, which is where the lone NSSCRA stop in The Babbage Islands will be made this season. He is an aggressive driver who is now comfortable on almost any track. Trillium presents a complete contrast in styles. Her reputation was as a road course specialist until last season highlighted her capacity for all-around growth. Valdemar is young, brash, and fiery. Some detractors feel that he needs to learn how to avoid trouble, but supporters figure he'll build on what he has just as Trillium did.

Overall, the Woods team is considered a preseason favourite. But they will face stiff competition from teams led by last year's best drivers, notably Kirsten Hopkins of Cassadaigua, A.J. Henderson of Taeshan, and Calvin Emberton of Jeffgordonville.

BRT REVS UP FOR QUALIFYING

Image
Stuyler after training

BRT Grand Prix is a well known name at home. But completely unknown in the International Scene. Soon, Mingus Shouten and Wilhelm Stuyler take to the track as they try to show to the world what Burchadinger has in racing. Stuyler said, "The car is good, the, horsepower is lacking slightly, but the handling is magnificent, and I like cars with good handling characteristics." At training, Stuyler pipped Shouten by less than a thousandth of a second to finish at the top of BRT Training. Shouten however has proved to be stunning in qualifying, and hopefully, this time it will be no exception. Qualifying may be viewed live on either TV2, Sports World, or ABSC.

BURCHADINGER TIMES
GREAT START FOR BRT

BRT got off to a great start in the NSSCRA as the racing weekend started off in Secristan. Mingus Shouten clocked in 16.607 seconds to end the session in 6th place. His younger teammate Wilhelm Stuyler managed 12th place with a time of 16.883 seconds. "Its a great start to the season." said manager Larkin Jokarb. Indeed, all Burchadingan eyes will be at their telly sets to catch the race. Although Shouten managed to beat Stuyler for qualifying, many pundits are suggesting that the race will end differently. "Its always this situation. Mingus finishes better in qualifying, then he goofs it up in the race!" said Herbert Guy during Sports Today. Don't forget to see who wins, and where our Eagles finish, by watching the race live on either TV2, Sports World or NSC.

TRACK READY; FANS READY

The weather forecast couldn’t be any better for the season opening Penthoria Electronics 400 at the East Penthoria Speedway. Qualifiyng is already in the books, and taking the pole was a new driver from Ad’ihan, driving the #31 machine by the name of Mike Costwin. He will share the front row with another newcomer, Michael Grabow from East Lithuania. Both drivers are rumored to be great qualifiers, so whether or not they will be able to carry that into the race is far from settled. The drivers representing the home nation did not qualify well, but every nation that is returning is well aware that we do not usually qualify well, and for the new nations, you will learn that as the season goes on. Chris Sullivan was the quickest member of Million Rusa Racing, clocking in at 17.216 seconds and 27th place overall. Eric Murphy is 31st and Matthew Schaefer, who finished in the top five last season, has a lot of work to do from the 37th spot. “It’s further back then I would like,” Schaefer told us, “But the experience I have here will be useful. We’ll see if we can play the pit strategy game to get early track position. It’s otherwise hard to pass cars on this short track.” Eric Murphy, who became well known for his rivalry with Jeffgordonville’s Jason Antilles was disappointed but not surprised to see him not chosen with that nations’ drivers. “I guess they finally found out what I knew after two races. He sucks,” said Murphy.

Penthoria Electronics is proud to sponsor the race at the East Penthoria Speedway. It is special for them as their headquarters is based in the city, and they will be holding several contests during the race weekend. CEO Cale Allen told us, “We love racing here at Penthoria Electronics, and we are sure to let the people know that our products can go as fast as a stock car! It is an honor to have won the bidding for the naming rights to this race. Being the first race of the season is special and we are privileged to be a part of it.” The Secristan Department of Sports reports the average bid price per seat was 128 rusas for front stretch seating and 91 rusas for the backstretch, and 104 rusas for seating in the turns. They seem to be happy with those numbers.

Okada Misses Top Ten Qualifying Spot
East Prenthoria Speedway, Secristan

Min Kyung Okada (#19) missed tenth in qualifying by less than a tenth of a second, with a time of 16.810 seconds. Alan Addail (#74) of Grays Harbor beat Okada with a time of 16.732 seconds. "The car is different from the touring cars I've driven, so it took a little getting used to. Regardless, I think I did rather well."

The same could not be said for teammate Lien Murakami (#9), who qualified 36th with a time of 17.582 seconds. In an interview after qualifying, she also cited differences in handling. "I'm not going to let that stop me in Jeffgordonville."

Both drivers expect to perform well tomorrow.

The Jeffgordonville Star
Yes, we know it's technically not a star

Are you sure this was a good idea, Cal?

With qualifying for the season opening Penthoria Electronics now completed, the surprise of the day was the lack of one lap pace from the returning drivers, as 8 of the 10 ten starters are rookie drivers. AJ Henderson, 4th, and Chip Woods, 9th, were the only drivers to break the rookie hold at the front. The polesitter will be Mike Costwin's 31, driving for Ad'ihan, with a time of 16.414, breaking the NSSCRA qualifying lap record by 3 thousandths of a second.

Denny Cummings is the top Jeffgordonvillian starter, in 14th, with a qualifying time of 16.931. When asked what he thought of the apparent qualifying prowess of the newcomers he said, "It's pretty odd, if ya ask me. I mean, these guys aren't exactly green, but I'm pretty sure the NSSCRA regulations are an amalgam of most of the major stock car championships, meaning that nobody should have that big an advantage. Maybe they're concentrating on their qualifying package, but that'd be kinda shooting themselves in the foot, since finishing last gets you more points than qualifying first."

Image
Denny Cummings will start his 3rd career NSSCRA race from 14th - his best qualifying effort yet.

Kyle Onasi is two rows behind the current JSCC A-Series champ, in 18th place. Despite this, Onasi is pleased with his effort, saying, "Eh, these rookies're showin' their hands way too early. These're pretty long races, and we've got jus' one guy who's won from pole - and he ain't interested in qualifying no more. Not t' mention guys like Henderson 'n' Schaefer who qualified in the back all last season, 'n' they both finished top five. But if they want pole, go ahead - I'll jus' wait 'til they start messin' up from pushin' too hard, and then take the win.

Image
The Doc, Kyle Onasi climbing out of his car after posting a time of 17.008, good enough for 18th.

Calvin Emberton will start from the penultimate row, in 42nd place. Despite this, he insists that there is nothing to worry about. "I've got one of the best cars in the field. Who cares about qualifying? This is a 400 lap race - if I pass one car every 5 laps, or about 3 miles, I'll be in the lead just past halfway. So, no worries. I'll win."

Image
Starting 42nd has not fazed Calvin Emberton - he still feels he can win the race

One hopes that Cal has the right idea, because if not, then his hopes of championship glory are over before they've started.

Kirsten’s Space

Last year, Danielle Pearson was the race team blogger, but this year they wanted me to do it since I had the best overall finish in the standings amongst us. I told them that I would only do this if I had Danielle’s blessing to do so. She agreed, so here I am. I’m more of a racer then someone who spends a lot of time on the computer typing up summaries and stuff like that so I apologize if this is not as insightful as maybe other athletes do in the other sports we do.

It’s the second season, and qualifying has begun for the Penthoria Electronics 400. I am excited to be starting the year on a short track, and am very happy to see a greater emphasis on ovals then on road courses as we had last year. That alone I think should give me a greater shot to win this championship. The shorter schedule, which I am very happy about, will not allow anyone to make any mistakes as one bad finish can eliminate you from title consideration right away. Though I think we will have that one bad day, the difference is finishing 25th on your bad day instead of 38th. Or taking a 20th place car and finish 12th with it. Little things like that maximize the points you pick up, and that’s how championships are won in a short schedule, just look at how four-time champions in this format work their magic. That is how right there. I’m pretty excited to race Chip (Woods) and A.J. (Henderson) and everyone else again. It will be fun!

And it is once again international racing season as the second NSSCRA racing series has kicked of the first of its 10 event race season including the Orange Lake Road Course event in a few weeks. The first race begin with qualifying for the Penthoria electronics 400 at East Penthoria Speedway in Secristan. A short track the three Taeshanis are expected to fare well in the opening race of the seaosn. Qualifying though did not start so well. A.J. Henderson will start 4th for the race, but Ambrose Douglas and Colby Andretti will start 28th and 24th respectively. It will be very interesting to watch the opening race this weekend and i am very interested in seeing it all play out.

EAST PENTHORIA, Secristan (BPA) -- As qualifying runs closed for the Penthoria Electronics 400 to open the NSSCRA season, the Woods Motorsport team from The Babbage Islands appear to be pleased with the result.

New team driver Kenny Valdemar's all-out style seemed to suit on the short track this day, as he qualified fifth just .13 of a second off the pole. Series defending champion Chip Woods was less than two-tenths of a second behind that, qualifying ninth to make the Babbage-based team the only one with two drivers in the top ten. Cathy Trillium qualified 34th.

Mike Costwin, a new series driver from Ad'ihan, is on the pole. Of last year's top drivers, only Taeshan's A.J. Henderson joined Woods with a front-of-the-pack run (fourth). The other top-five drivers, Kirsten Hopkins, Calvin Emberton, and Matthew Schaefer, all will start eighteen or more rows back in the 44-car field.

Teamate Hariuoyn has obtained 17th in qualifing, his engine had some troubles and the team is looking to fix these up for the race. In big news Darnell Track has crashed into the stands on his first lap! His brakes and engine had terrible troubles and the car just "snapped" and the car went flying. The car has been repaired and Darnell seems fine and ready for race day.

It was a nice race as a whole, but on a driver level the three Tae's did not get off to a good enough start to have as much of an impact as they thought they would on the race. Ambrose Dogulas would be the top finisher in 8th place. While A.J. Henderson would finish 21st one lap down, and Colby Andretti would finish at his numbers spot in 34th.

Okada Finishes 14th, Murakami 25th
East Prenthoria, Secristan

With the end of the first race of the season, Min Kyung Okada (#19) slipped three positions from his qualifying spot. Lien Murakami (#9) gained 11 places, but finished a lap down.

"We had a fairly good run on the track," Okada said in an interview with HNNI, "But our pit strategy didn't work."

When asked about her feelings on the race, Murakami declined to comment.

Both drivers are looking forward to the race in Jeffgordonville.
