All Walamzians Eliminated from Paradise Open

It was not a tournament to remember for Walamzia as all competitors were eliminated from the Paradise Open in the group stage, one on set difference. This comes as no surprise, as stars nate Tomlinson and the Zaienrs gave this tournament a miss to prepare for the Antilla Masters. We may see them in the knockout phase, depending on the way the knockouts are run.

Three Tupi players in the singles main draw; no Tupi teams in the doubles main draw

As the qualifying tournament ends, three singles players from Tupiaupaba made it to the main draw, while the doubles teams, already disqualified, made their final match.

In Group 2, Paulo Soares, already qualified to the main draw, played more loosely against Walamzian Greg O'Malley, but still took the match to the third set. After playing absently in the first set, he focused more and won the second, eventually losing in the third to close the match at 6/1 2/6 6/4. Now Paulo Soares is set to face the 5th seed, Cenian player Ellela Thotan. He said afterwards: "It'll be a tough match, but no one told be it'd be easy".

In Group 6, Hélder Ventura proved his talent and beat Confederate player Titus Gildedhall in straight sets. The dirtballer abused of his dirty tricks in order to defeat the other contender of his group. After an easy first set, Titus played more focused on the second, but eventually succumbed to Hélder, and the match ended at 6/1 6/4. Helder is set to face Joanna Cosby. He later stated: "I am ready to give the best of myself against him".

In group 8, Gaspar Delgado narrowly lost to Walamzian player Fred Smithers, but staged a comeback and qualified to the main draw. After a disastrous first set, each player held his serve until the tiebreak, on which Fred reached match point but ended up losing. On the third set, Gaspar played his best and upset a tired Fred, closing the match at 2/6 7/6 6/1. Gaspar is set to face the 7th seed, Costenho player Zoran Jovanovic. After the match, he said: "Well, he better be prepared to face me. I won't give up". The veteran Maximiliano Magalhães defeated Vare player Viktoria Arthursson by 6/3 7/5 and ended up in third place on his group. He later said: "I can only wait for the next tournament".

The doubles teams had less stellar results. The brothers Thiago Machado and Timóteo Machado lost their last round in the match tiebreak. After a troubled first set, they staged a comeback on the second, but eventually lost the match tiebreak after leading it by 5 points. The match ended at 6/4 4/6 [10-8] for the Andromedan team Ray Thomas and Hayley Van Pelt, who ended up qualifying. "That's a tough loss", admits Thiago, "but we'll now concentrate on the next tournament", says Timóteo.

Abaeté Silva and Gustavo Costa defeated the Vare team Harald Bager and Jörgen Bergfalk in straight sets. They had the control in the whole match, defeating the team by 6/4 6/2. Based on the head-to-head criteria, however, they did not qualify to the main draw. Abaeté said to the cameras: "It's hard to leave Paradise City so early, but we'll be there for the next tournament". "It'll not slow us down", said Gustavo.

It's All Coming Back to The Double
Paradise City, Blackhelm Confederacy

The Qualification round of Griffencrest Paradise City Open have come to and end with the final third match was held yesterday. As the result, only 1 Pemecutanian player that advance to the main round. It is double team, Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati which eventually become the first Pemecutanian that shine in the international event.

Although didn't have a chance to advance, it seems that some of Pemecutanians single players become more relax in their last match and it contribute to a good result. Dewa Putu Adrian Putra manage to defeated Olivia Greenbridge in a 3 sets match after a great comeback in the second set and win the set after a tight tie-break. He manage to give a consistent performance in the third set and although have to going through another tie-break, he eventually win it. Same result coming from Kadek Adi Wiranatha in Group 6. Win the first set against Marie Hymington, he has to struggle in the second set and eventually lost after a dramatic tie-break. Wiranatha manage to rise up and contested Hymington in another tie-break, but now it is Wiranatha time to shine.

Unfortunately, although Maria Sophia Lubis win her last match, she unable to proceed to the main round because she ended in the second place. Losing to Erin Trent of The Andromeda Island. While a big upset coming from Ayu Ratih Kemalasari, which begin in a good result but eventually losing her last 2 matches that make her finished last eventhough she gave a great performance in her last match against Joan Levitt of Electrum.

While in the double competition, eventhough Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati lost their last match they able to retain top position in their group to advance to the main round. It was a long and hard match against Octavius Miller/Marius Steelhammer which finished in a dramatic super tie-break. On the other hand, Ilham Nugraha/Jayadi Ahmad failed to proceed to the main round eventhough they win their last match against Paul Quiront/Thierry Garzala. They are 3 points short and finished second in their respected group.

On the main round, Komang Antari/Kadek Andreawati will be facing Aurelio Alves/Marcelo de Santiago of Costa de Ouro. Nothing will be predicted from the Pemecutanian double then giving their best performance from now on.
"It is a great opportunity to be able to advance. But our match will be much more harder than before," said Komang Antari.

Claudius Griffencrest National Tennis Center
Paradise City, Blackhelm Confederacy
Qualification Week – Day 2
Tuesday
6:00 pm

Kay Jackson has been playing for almost an hour. Her serve was broken in the previous game. She’s now down 5-3 in the opening set and 40-love. She feels exhausted. Thierry Garza of New Engellion serves. Jackson is wrong footed and slips on the clay as the ball bounces just out of her reach. There are some polite cheers.

Game & Set Garza.

Jackson sits on her bench. She tries to forget about the fact that she could now be eliminated even if she wins. She closes her eyes, breathes deeply and repeats four words.

“Right here. Right now.”

Jackson knows that part of her problem is that she has been worrying too much about the other Group 3 match across the way. At this point, all she can do is try to win the next two sets. That means holding serve and breaking Garza at some point.

“Right here. Right now.”

----------

7:05 pm.

Jackson is up 6-5. She has held her serve. She also came close to winning the set in the tenth game. This game is at its second deuce. Garza serves. Jackson returns. The volley lasts a good 30 seconds. Garza hits the ball and charges the net. Jackson hits a hard return that grazes Garza’s ear. The ball lands just short of the base line.

Advantage. Jackson.

“Right here. Right now.”

Garza serves. Jackson returns. Garza lobs it over Jackson’s head. Jackson chases the ball down, but slows down once it lands out of bounds.

“Game. Set. Jackson.”

----------

7:55 pm.

Jackson is up 5-4 in the final set. She broke Garza early in the set. Since those first two games, Garza and Jackson have held serve.

Jackson noticed that for the past ten minutes, the crowd has grown. This means that some of the other early evening matches have ended.

Jackson looks up in the stands. All of her compatriots are there, including Carmen Doyle. Carmen has been…

“Focus. Right here. Right now.”

Jackson is up 40-30. She serves for the match.

“Fault!”

The ball hit the net before it landed over. Jackson regains her composure. She serves again. Garza returns. Jackson hits it back. The ball hits the net before landing on Garza’s side, just like during the first serve. Garza has no chance of reaching the ball. The crowd cheers.

“Game, Set & Match. Jackson.”

After Jackson and Garza shake hands, she looks up and sees that Erin Trent has disappeared. She sees Trent waiting for her just outside of the corridor leading to the locker room. Jackson briefly waves to the crowd before talking with Trent in the locker room. Trent tries to hold a serious expression on her face, but fails.

“Congrats. We’re all in.”

“What?”

Okay, you know I got through. As if there was any doubt.”

“Oh, brother.”

“And Ray and Hayley got through, so that only leaves you.”

“That’s only if Kamalasari’s match went three sets.”

“I talked with some of the other fans. Not only that, but Levitt WON. 7-5 in the 3rd.”

Trent shows Jackson the score on her iPhone. Jackson lets out a sign of relief. She made the main draw. Trent and Jackson hug.

“Don’t get too happy, Kay. The real test starts on Saturday.”

“Not too happy,” Jackson says. “Happy enough to have room service bring up some chocolate cake.”

“I like the way you think.”

Electrum Lawn Tennis Association - News

Three Electrumites in singles draw and two pairs in doubles draw @Paradise City

Qualification is over, and it has been disappointing for Joan Levitt, who was the only Electrumite entrant to not gain proper entry into the main draw. The main reason? Her monumental breakdown against The Andromeda Island's Kay Jackson on the second day of competition, whereby she lost 6-1 6-1. That pretty much sealed the deal for her, as Kay was undefeated and was set to win on the final day, which she did. As a result, Joan Levitt will be knocked out of the competition. In the brief press conference at the end of her match with Kay Jackson she said that, "She completely shut me down. Nothing I could do was working... she totally outclassed me. Of course, I can return tomorrow and try and defeat Ayu, but I think Kay will win." Of course, Levitt would eventually win in a three-setter, but so did Kay, so her fate was sealed. The other Electrumite entrant in the qualification competition, Carmichael Brown, will advance after winning his first to matches, and losing to Harald Bager in the last match. However, as he defeated second placer Danjiela Zovic, on HTH, he advanced.

With that over, Electrum has five entries in the main tournament. These include the already qualified Deanne Smith, who will face qualifier Erin Trent from the Andromeda Islands (who won all three matches, and in a very convincing fashion), Carmichael Brown who will face eighth seed Natalia Emilia Garcia, who is ranked 43rd in the world, and Malcolm Press who also automatically qualified who will face qualifier Marcus Clearglass who is a home-favourite, and is their last hope in this tournament. The ELTA thinks that Malcolm Press will have the hardest job in snuffing out the home nation's last chance in this tournament, and so his game is a must-watch. Carmichael Brown will have an interesting fight with the eighth seed.

On the doubles side of the draw, the Cassington sisters will face Hamilton International debutantes Emma Rehnquistianson and Chris D'myabá from the oft-mispronounced Qocaekian Isles and Joan Levitt/Deanne Smith will face against second seeds Ciache Nagya and Ellela Thotan, who are themselves ranked 12th in the world. It's going to be a tough order for them, as Joan attempts to bounce back from her disappointing debut in the singles qualification (missing out by the barest of margins is though). With these ATP Tier 2 events, no match is a foregone conclusion, and it's up to the players to seize the day and claim what is rightfully theirs.

Andromeda News Network
The Sports Hour
Paradise City Open Coverage
Saturday
7:15 pm

Keith Olds, host of the Sports Hour sits in ANN Studios in Andromeda City with former Andromedan doubles player Martin Thomas.

“Four Andromedan singles players began play at the ‘Griffencrest’ Paradise City Open in the Blackhelm Confederacy. We’re here with former Andromedan tennis great Marty Thomas to revue the debut of Andromeda’s young guns of tennis in Paradise City. We start with singles action yesterday. Carmen Doyle won in straight sets over Nate Tomlinson.

“Doyle didn’t do so well in Ceni or Hamilton, but she started off sound with a straight set win over Nate Tomlinson.”

“Doyle’s next opponent, Gaspar Delgado, upset #7 Zoran Jovanovic. How does that affect Doyle, going ahead?”

“That’s why we play these games, Keith. At this level, every game is a challenge. If Carmen Doyle focuses, she has just as good a chance as anyone at winning this.”

“How about Erin Trent? What do you think of her chances?”

“Trent only dropped one set in qualification. Her opponent, Deanna Smith, didn’t have to go through qualification.”

“And yet Trent triumphed 6-2 in the 3rd.”

“Erin Trent is a fighter, Keith. Sometimes, she knocks her opponents out early. Yesterday, she went the distance, but she’ll do whatever it takes to pull out the win.”

“Speaking of going the distance, what about the first round matchup between Esperanza Cho and Kay Jackson?”

“Keith, I was sceptical as to why tournament organizers would pair up two Andromedans in the opening round, but after the second hour, I saw why. There were almost as many people out on Court #5 watching Cho and Jackson as there were on Centre Court.

“And who prevailed?”

“Kay Jackson finally prevailed, but it was a thriller. She was down a break at 5-4 in the 3rd and faced a match point, but broke Cho twice to win 7-5.”

“Jackson’s also a qualifier?”

“I saw her play Britt Mack in the final in St. Paul. Keith, this young crop is just the future of Andromedan tennis. They could also be future of NS Tennis.

“Let’s go to doubles. How did Russ Knox and Lupe Gomez do?”

“They did a solid job. They won in straight sets. They entertained the fans.”

“They looked like they were having fun on the court. How about the other doubles team, Ray Thomas and Hayley Van Pelt?”

“Let me tell you, both of have perhaps the best pedigree in Andromedan tennis.”

“Full disclosure, you’re related to both Thomas and Van Pelt.”

“This is true, but they’re good tennis player in their own right. They got through qualification and fought a good match, winning both the first set tiebreaker and the super-tiebreaker.”

So, how do you think our people will do as the tournament progresses?

“We should see some good tennis in the next couple of days. If we go by seeding, Carmen Doyle should make the Quarters, Erin Trent will face #1 seed Kika Dovan from Ceni and Kay Jackson’s going against #2 seed Ciache Nagya. If either Trent or Jackson can get through tomorrow, it will be a dramatic upset.

“And doubles?”

Hayley Van Pelt and Ray Thomas have a good shot. They and their opponents both won in upsets today. As for Russ Knox and Lupe Gomez, they have an uphill battle against #1 seeded Coosal Darlcheri and Gyrachor Rentos from Ceni, who most experts project to make the doubles final.

“Well be pulling for all of them in any case. For Marty Thomas, this is Keith Olds with The Sports Hour. We’ll be right back with a surprise announcement from the Andromeda Sports Commission concerning the domestic tennis schedule.”

Paulo Soares and Gaspar Delgado upset seeded players and advance

It was a nice day for the Tupi tennis, as two players managed to pull huge upsets in order to advance to the next rounds.

Paulo Soares stunned his opponent, 5th seed Ellela Thotan, to reach the second round. It was a technically perfect match for him, as he broke her service three times in the match while not allowing a single break point on his service, ending the match with the score of 6/2 6/3. Paulo is now set to face Natalia Boruc, from The Qocaekian Isles. When asked about his performance, he answered: "It's just one of those days where everything is going well. I've got to seize the opportunities".

Gaspar Delgado upset 7th seed Zoran Jovanovic to reach the second round. The Tupi player executed his well-known strategy of one-two punch to confirm his serve and put more pressure on the opponent, being successful today, winning by the score of 6/3 7/5. Gaspar shall face Carmen Doyle from The Andromeda Islands in the second round. When asked about his odds at the tournament, he replied: "I really get a bit nervous when I try to think about the future too much. I try not to think about who am I going to face if I win the next match, or the other after that. I focus on the next match and that's it. My opponent is Carmen Doyle and I will play like I always do".

Hélder Ventura, however, did not have such luck. The only Tupi player not to face a seeded one, he lost to Joanna Cosby in a hard-fought match. After a lopsided first set, which he lost, Hélder staged a comeback and went on to win the second by confirming two breaks of serve. On the third, two consecutive double faults led to a break on his serve and he was unable to fight back, ending the match at the score of 6/1 2/6 6/4. When asked about what went wrong, he stated: "I missed a few good opportunities on the third set. I believe I could have had an opportunity to break her serve. At one point, it was 0-30, but I made three unforced errors in a row and she eventually confirmed her serve. It is unfortunate to have lost, but life goes on".

OOC: No protest, wasn't aware of the rules. Thank you for clarifying. Would've been helpful if I had known about this, but I'll know in the future.

Tennis House Under Investigation

Walamzian Tennis Federation President Ivan Franchinov has called an emergency meeting with the WTF Board of Directors to solve the matter of the press release from the Paradise City Open about the Zainers. Every employee at Tennis House will be scrutinized in a full investigation as to who told what to whom about the rules of the competition, and procedures for should this ever happen again. The Zainers had to withdraw from the tournament due to illness, and there is no disputing that. However, someone at Tennis House failed to notify the tournament organizers of a replacement. The Board are investigating why no replacement was named, and why there was either no knowledge of the rule or (if there was knowledge) the willful ignorance of the rule. The Board will report back to the organizing committee with their findings, and they apologize deeply for the mess. We wish their opponents luck in the next round.

In other news, the Zainers are recovered and will be ready for the Masters.

Tomlinson Loses in Round of 32

Nate Tomlinson's run in the Paradise City Open was over before it even started. He lost in straight sets to Carmen Doyle, and he looked out of it during the match. When speaking to Jake Peters after his match, it couldn't be any clearer:

"I would like to apologize to the fans for that poor result. It was because of something I can control: my focus on tennis during this trying personal time in my life. I hope all of this nonsense can be put to bed now, and we can move on to the Masters with a clean slate. That was unquestionably the worst match of my tennis career."

Zexa

The rebels on Zexa had already surrendered, The U.S.D Marines and there counterparts from Northdeigo. Most of the 1st Division Marines never had the chance to see combat on the small Isle. Though they did take very light casualties (7 KIA & 16 Wounded). There Northdeigo counterparts had already left to take the rebel held city of Umag. The marines were left to garrison the Isle till men of the U.S.D Army arrived to relieve them.

Sgt.Gates was sitting in a large squad sized tent on his cot. The firefight that led to the friendly fire incident was the only real action he fought in on the Isle. He expected more action but the only other action he received he was in a LAPC ( Light Armored Personnel Carrier). It was dark and a small group of rebels had fired on the lead M-Rap in the convoy and the M-Rap responded with multiple 50. cal. burst. The marines ran out of the two LAPCs but the rebels had already ran out of there cover and surrendered. Gates could tell the 50 scared them shitless. They loaded the small group into the back of the other squads LAPC and moved on to there current positions at the east side of the Isle.

Gates Wiped sweat of his forehead and begin to write his wife a letter.

Dear Julian,

I promised I would write you and here his my first letter. I can't say much but I have seen action and death. Don't worry im okay but please pray for me and a cease fire started and it will last for 5 days, Hope the'll make peace and send us home. If you have not heard we took Zexa and were stuck here till the damn army arrive to relieve us. Its very hot and we regularly bathe and swim in the ocean, The food is terrible, and to top it off the latrines stink and thereby are squads tent. Right me back and tell me what the kids got on there report cards.

Yours,
Frank Gates
P.S: Tell Mary and James I love them.

Gates reached into his pack and grabbed a envelope from it and put the letter inside. He took it to the postal tent. As he walked out of the postal tent he looked at the sea and wished the cease fire would bring an end to the war.

In a surprise twist, neither Gildedhall nor Greenbridge managed to enter the main round and break free of the qualifiers, despite Gildedhall's strong early performances. Instead, the relatively uncovered Marcus Clearglass stole the scene and broke into the first round, only to have his brief moment of glory cut short in a quick defeat at the hands of Malcolm Press, who defeated him handily. Despite this though, the population of the Blackhelm Confederacy and of Paradise City got their first taste of the international sports world, and the popularity of tennis was beginning to spread.

Not only that, but Clearglass had managed to secure a ranking of 199 out of 417, giving him the possibility of qualifying for another draw. for now the Confederacy would watch the rest of the games with excitement, each picking their new favorites now that their hometown heroes had been knocked out of the running, but all waited with baited breath for their countrymen to get another shot at winning a tournament.

Paradise City Open - Digest
The Paradise City Open, the first event in the Astyrian Series, has commenced both the series and this year's clay court season. Top seed Kika Dovan has secured her second-round berth while fifth seed Ellela Thotan lost her opening round match, as well as her match with Ciache Nagya in the doubles, where they were second seeds. Some high quality tennis has been played during this tournament as new nations break on to the top tiers of the tennis scene.

Dovan beat qualifier Dayde Aberton of Britonisea in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2. Neither athlete faced a break point in the first set, with Dovan putting some quality shots past the newcomer Aberton while committing some nasty unforced errors of her own. However, in the second set, Dovan's experience showed as she was able to dominate the match, taking advantage of Aberton's lack of confidence and unforced errors.

Meanwhile, serve-and-volleyer Paulo Soares of Tupiaupaba, while not having a natural advantage on the clay courts in Paradise City due to their high bounce, pulled off and upset of the 30-year-old mother Thotan, who lost 2-6, 3-6. "I'm glad I can still be on the court and have lots of fun," Thotan told LTA Matrix. "I'm disappointed that I lost today but I wish Paulo best of luck in his next match."

Second-seeded Ciache Nagya breezed past Joric Novikov of Val Halla in two sets, 6-2, 6-1. She used a mixture of forehands, backhands, and volleys to deny Novikov ball-striking opportunities. Many of the points that Nagya won, however, were unforced errors from Novikov. "I'd like to thank my doubles partner Ellela [Thotan] for helping to get me in the top ten," Nagya said in her post-match conference, "and I think she has helped me to improve my game a lot so I could win this match today."

18-year-old Lonus Varalin also won his opening match, but had a harder time than the rest of the Cenians playing in Paradise City, taking three sets to finish off Astrid Cambar of Val Halla, prevailing 7-6, 2-6, 6-4. "It was a tough match today, but I'm glad that I was able to advance to the next round," Varalin said in his press conference. The first set was a tough one, with several breaks and counter-breaks. Ultimately, Varalin was able to prevail, but it was only after Cambar forced him to run. She took advantage of his growing tiredness in the second set, having some nice winners, but Varalin struck back in the third set, sealing the game, the set, and the match.

In doubles, 6th ranked and 1st seeded Coosal Darlcheri and Gyrachor Rentos had an easy time defeating Glenn Filips and Ralof Tambars of Val Halla. They only lost one game in the first set, dominating with a coordinated net game and good returning. Filips and Tambars appeared to have struck a blow when they were up two breaks in the second set, but Darlcheri and Rentos took advantage of errors and a little bit more aggressive game to seal the set and the match.

However, Ciache Nagya and Ellela Thotan did not have a good time, as they were steamrollered by Joan Levitt and Deanne Smith 2-6, 1-6. They appeared totally uncoordinated, with several poaching maneuvers gone wrong spelling doom for the Cenian pair in their first game."It definitely was a disappointing match for us," said Nagya.

Today, in the singles Kika Dovan faces Erin Trent of the Andromeda Islands, a rising power in tennis, Lonus Varalin faces Charles Sayer, and Ciache Nagya faces Kay Jackson, also of the Andromeda Islands. In doubles, Darlcheri and Rentos face Russ Knox and Lupe Gomez of the Andromeda Islands. We wish all of our players luck today.

The Fierce Wind
The fierce wind blows in from the east
when the time is ripe
for a strong leader
to take control of his ship
and sail it to sea to
make its fortune
The fierce wind blows in from the west
when the time is ripe
for a ship sailing across
the Oriental ocean
to meet its fate at sea
The fierce wind blows in from the north
when a mighty empire is ascendant
building forts, cities, towns,
ready to stand the test of time, but
The fierce wind blows in from the south
and those empires that
were once resurgent
now fall to the unrelenting
force of the ages
Whatever direction the force of
the fierce wind blows,
it blows in the direction
determined by fate -
and in turn, it determines
the destiny of all

This is your cutoff for today.

Walamzian Tennis Federation -- Memorandum

Road Trip to Antillia Masters:

Departing: Tomorrow 8AM from Tennis House, Walamzia
Driver: Jake Peters
Passengers:
- Edgar Waltrip
- Fred Smithers
- Zander Lewis (Fred's doubles partner)
- Hunter Washburn
- Dexter O'Hurley

Departing: Tomorrow 8:30 AM same place
Driver: Matt Callahan (WalSport tennis PBP commentator)
Passengers:
- Rob Carlin
- Jeff Smith
- Stuart Wallace
- Lionel Patterson
- Greg O'Malley

Due to the fact that they are recovering from their illness, the Zainers will be traveling on their own. Because of the high potential for a media circus, Nate Tomlinson and Ashley Tyler will be making their way to Antillia from Paradise City. Both groups of 2 are to call the Walamzian Tennis Federation at 8PM every night that they are on the road for them to reserve a room at a nearby hotel. The Zainers will be given a nurse on call in case they have any symptoms of the illness return on their journey. Nate and Ashley will be registered in their traveling hotel(s) under pseudonyms as an added layer of security against the paparazzi.

The two parties of 5 passengers will be given the exact same trip itinerary so all 10 of them can bond. All 10 of them will be given an explanation about the other 4 not being with them. Two representatives from the federation were due to be the drivers, but that was put on hold due to the ongoing investigation. The Federation thanks the two drivers for their service, and will compensate them as soon as possible.

Andromeda News Network
The Midnight Run – Sports Update
Paradise Open Tennis Coverage
Tuesday morning
12:45 am

The Midnight Run is a late night comedy show that lasts from 11:30 pm to 1 am. Every week night, at roughly 12:45, Scott Stewart, the late night Sports Anchor for the Andromeda News Network, updates viewers on the results of key sporting events from the previous day or so. Tonight, he updates viewers on the progress of Andromedan tennis players in Paradise City.

“Tonight, the tennis world was turned upside down in Paradise City by one of the lovely ladies of Andromeda. Who was it? Let’s find out!”

----------

Carmen Doyle, Erin Trent, Esperanza and Kay Jackson pose for a brief photo shoot outside of Center Court.

“Before their matches this morning, Carmen Doyle, Erin Trent and Kay Jackson posed for a local magazine spread. Each wore one of the four colors of the Andromeda flag. Doyle wore red, Trent wore white and Kay wore blue. Cho, who was ousted by Jackson earlier in the tournament, wore yellow.”

----------

“Now onto the action. Erin Trent takes on Kika Dovan of Ceni and…”

Kika Dovan wins the point and the first set.

“Boo-Yah! Dovan wins the first set 7-5, but Trent was having none of it.

Trent wins the point and the second set with a drop shot

“As cool as the other side of the pillow. Our girl gave it her all, but top seeded Kika Dovan took it 6-3 in the third.”

----------

“In the afternoon Carmen Doyle played Gaspar Delgado of Tupiaupaba.

Delgado ends a long volley early in the second set.

“Holla at a playa when you see him on the street. Doyle dominated the first set but Delgado dug in his heels in the second, which went into a tie break.”

Doyle wins the decisive point and the match.

“Doyle told Delgado, ‘Don’t hate the playa, hate the game.’ Doyle advances.”

----------

“The final match of the evening saw Kay Jackson clash with second seeded Ciache Nagya of Ceni.

Jackson wins the opening set convincingly.

“KJ was like butter, ‘cause she was on a roll. She won the first set 6-0. Nagya came back and took KJ to a tiebreaker. Nagya evened it out at one set apiece but KJ kept her composure and came out to an early lead in the third. And…

Jackson and Nagya shake hands.

“KJ crashes the party and upsets the second seed 6-0, 6-7, 6-3. Both players talked to local press after the match.”

“Two months ago, most of us top players couldn’t find the Andromeda Islands on a map. Some of my friends remembered that they were pretty good at basketball, but it appears they’re good at tennis too.”

“It’s unreal. You know? Last year, we would read about the international tour and think to ourselves that we could never play at that level. It’s an honor just to be in the same class with players like Ciache Nagya. It’s a great feeling.”

Cut to a graphic of the singles draw.

“Kay Jackson and Carmen Doyle will clash in the quarterfinals. Doyle, the top ranked Andromedan in the singles draw, will get all she can handle from Kay Jackson. You can see this match in prime time on Wednesday night here on the Andromeda News Network.

Electrum Lawn Tennis Association - News

Surprise Electrumite remaining in singles draw, both pairs still in contention in the doubles

We are now getting to the pointy end of the competition -- tomorrow, the finals will start (quarterfinals, of course). Of the three Electrumites that started in the singles side of the tournament, only one stands. You may be surprised to hear that it was in fact Carmichael Brown, who survived the first few rounds. In the Round of 32, Electrum's Deanne Smith was the first to bow out to The Andromeda Island's Erin Trent. It seems like whenever Electrum meets The Andromeda Islands, fate seems to swing against us, and the Electrumite is eliminated. This is probably a signal of their continuing growth and development within the isles, with their extremely high levels of standards for tennis, as well as lots of internal tournaments. Carmichael Brown would pull off a massive upset in Natalia Emilia Garcia, a journeywomen with a whole lot more experience than he does, winning 7-5 6-4. Malcolm Press would disappoint the home crowd, defeating their last hope in Marcus Clearglass 6-2 6-2. Meanwhile in the doubles, the Cassington sisters defeated a pair from the Qocaekian Isles (who had their debut in the Hamilton International) and Joan Levitt/Deanne Smith (who channeled their disappointing in crashing out of the singles tournament) defeated second seeds Ciache Nagya and Ellela Thotan. It was the biggest scalp for the day, as they punished with their spectacular net work.

Into the next day, and Malcolm Press would bow out to third seed Andre Pedrinho Delgado 6-1 7-5. It was a hugely disappointing start for him, as he just couldn't match Delgado's varied experience on the clay courts (Delgado being of Costeno descent, where clay courts are common). He would then try to come back in the second set, but he couldn't hold on to force a tiebreaker in the final. Carmichael Brown played a marathon 3-hour match against Dušan Ivanovic 4-6 6-4 8-6. The matches momentum went back and forth several times between both players, with Brown losing out in the first set after a double fault and an ace, which was later ruled out on appeal. In the second set, Brown held his nerve and won it out 6-4. The final set... was a marathon, taking one and a half hours to complete. The players sweated it out, and kept hydrating themselves under the shades, but Brown would win and advance to tomorrow's matches.

Tomorrow, Carmichael Brown has his biggest assignment yet, the task of taking down first seed Kika Dovan, who narrowly defeat Erin Trent. Kika, who is known for being an excellent baseliner will be a tough beat. Carmichael Brown will need to put everything he's got on the line if he wants to advance. Since he's just debuted in this tournament, this means that he shouldn't have to worry in taking risks, as he has literally nothing to lose. Greenhorns have the advantage of trying out the craziest of things, and risking it all, because they can. Kika Dovan won't have that luxury. When the doubles resume tomorrow, the Electrumites will make up a quarter of the field (2 of 8 ). The Cassington sisters will be facing the other pair from the Qocaekian Isles, Katia Katrina and Joel Maetins, who are seeded fourth. Joan Levitt and Deanne Smith, who pulled out that brilliant upset will face qualifiers Thomas and van Pelt from The Andromeda Islands. That side of the draw is now wide open for the taking, and Levitt and Smith will need to keep pushing onwards for success. ELTA wishes all of their players luck.

Tupi players are eliminated of the tournament

It was cheerful to see three players qualify to the tournament's main draw, but none of them stand a chance anymore, as both of the remaining ones were defeated in straight sets.

Paulo Soares lost to Natalia Boruc of The Qocaekian Isles by the score of 6/4 6/3. Despite playing his best, he did not pose a threat to her stunning performance today. When asked about his performance, he replied: "There just isn't much to do when your opponent is at this level. You must play your best at all times, but sometimes you can't make it on your own. I'll be ready for the next tournament, where I expect to play a lot better".

Gaspar Delgado was defeated by Carmen Doyle of The Andromeda Islands by the score of 6/2 7/6. While he performed poorly on the first set, he went on to reach the tiebreak in the second, only to lose eventually. When asked about the match, he answered: "Well, yeah, the score reflected my performance. I think I started a bit cocky in the match for having won all the last four, so I was a bit unfocused and lost the set. I improved my game on the second, but she wasn't pressured at all by my game and won in the tiebreak. It is unfortunate to have lost, but I think my performance at this tournament was satisfying".

Zexa: Part 2

The marines on Zexa were packing there packs and were excited to here the ending of the war.

Sgt.Gates was packing his things. He and his squad were going to be picked up by a V-22 in 10 minutes. Gates picked up his pack and slung it over his back and walked over to the LZ. Already a large group of marines were waiting there. Gates dropped his pack on the sand and laid against it. The other marines were all talking, but Gates just sat there and smiled till the younger Lieutenant walked up to him and through two shiny emblems at him. Gates looked at them, It was the emblems for Staff Sergeant that went on the marines collar. Come on Staff Sergeant order the squad to fall in. Gates got up and slung his pack over his shoulder. Fall In! He said happily. The other 8 marines got up and formed a single file line and blocked there faces so sand kicked up by the landing V-22 would not get in there eyes. The tail end of the V-22 opened and up and the marines marched on board with another squad of marines from the same platoon.5,000 marines were staying on the Isle till the simonians answered the call for a 5,000 marine garrison on the Isle. The Lieutenant walked on board then Gates. Gates was very happy with his promotion to Staff Sergeant. He smiled and before the V-22s ramp closed he turned around and looked at the former battlefield of Zexa and smiled. Perhaps this war was worth something. Muttered Gates.

Ocean's Calm
When the sunshine waltzes
across the horizon
and the painting of colors
is brushed on and fades
the ocean laps across
the shore, dark
but peaceful
The monotonous sound
of the waves rushing
toward a magnet on the shore,
strong for an instant
but a magnet in the sea
calls again and the waves recede -
It is mesmerizing,
to only hear the seabirds' call,
the waves' murmurs,
nothing else,
and to go to sleep by the light of the
bright white moon

This is your cutoff.

Road Trip Progress Report

Both big vehicles met at the Walamzia border at the same time, according to the Walamzian Border Patrol cameras. They report no missing items, and they are on their way to Antillia.

However, a vehicle conversation took place between a few people, and a fight ensued. The conversation was about the Federation's investigation, and rumors of corrupt politicians tampering with the Federation's day-to-day duties. The other major part of conversation at inner this evening was for the health and well-being of the Zainers. They have reportedly arrived to their flight an hour early, and were boarded in time for the flight to leave. They will be meeting the 2 vehicles at the hotel. Nate Tomlinson and Ashley Tyler are reportedly spending a few days to themselves before making the much shorter drive from Paradise City to Antillia.
