Today, the UC Genua has more quality than three years ago, but it’s still a small team in Aestate, mainly because the city. Genua is a port town and a satellite city of Meninx, with a little economy and without political weight. Sponsorship is a problem, and the fans are responsible for 80% of income. Currently, a council of community runs the team. Even so, this year Genua got the fifth best position in national league, thanks to Angelo Zanni and his coaching staff. The 4-5-1 formation is used for him with good variations. He can move the Side Midfields forward and can do the same with one Full Back, making a 3-4-3. Or Zanni can move the Side Midfields and the Full Backs forward, going back one Centre Midfield, normally Nino Brazzi. With this, he makes an efficient 3-3-4.

This is your ten hours warning for the first cut-off!

Contrary to previous messages, the cut-off a bit earlier than usual - but only by half an hour. My apologies if that would come inconvenient for anyone.

"Smyslova Virmest." The voiceover artist doing the narration is nationally famous for his soothing tones, soft accent and innate ability to make almost anything, no matter how humdrum, sound like serious news, so having him on hand to tell the story of Smyslova Virmest is a real asset for the production company. His opening spiel takes place over a montage of the team's finest moments from the past few years.

"For so long the bridesmaids of Lzherusskia's highest tier, last season Smyslova Virmest finally reclaimed the championship that had eluded them for over thirty years and in doing so, earned the right to represent the nation in the Multiverse Premier League. Playing an exciting style of football and boasting two of the nation's finest in their lineup, every sports fan from Tselinomesz to Sargkisia will be keen to see how Smyslova stack up against the rest of the world and for the first time, the RLM is allowing cameras behind the scenes to capture the team's day-to-day life. Come with us...Behind Closed Doors."

The title card fades out to footage of the team's press club. More than a standard question-and-answer session but less formal than a full press conference, Smyslova is one of the few teams that still maintains the weekly routine and is unsurprisingly one of the biggest reasons the nation's sporting media enjoys dealing with Smyslova. Arkadi Barabanschikov is always in attendance, as is to be expected from the modern manager, as also is team captain Juri Petrukhnov - it's the latter who is in the spotlight at the moment, fielding questions without looking flustered, but the narration is Barabanschikov: "I've found that one thing nobody outside the game understands is how to pick a good captain."

The voiceover continues, only now overlaid on highlights of Petrukhnov's play from the last season. "There are obvious things. They have to be a quality player, of course. There's no point giving the armband to somebody who you're just going to stick on the bench because he's being outplayed. You have to pick somebody you want the rest of the team to emulate, so your captain has to be prepared to be the first person on the pitch at training and the last to leave, otherwise everybody else will pick up bad habits from him. But the ability to deal with the press often gets overlooked, and I don't understand why."

The shot returns to the press club, where a reporter is just finishing up a question. "...do you think the team has a serious chance of competing against the rest of the world?"

Petrukhnov smiles. It's not his famous million-watt grin, but it's a reasonable twenty percent of that. "Absolutely. Remember, we aren't being asked to take on full-strength international teams or all-star squads: our opponents are, mostly, going to be teams just like us. And I flatter myself to think that we're easily capable of doing exactly what we did against the rest of the LMO anywhere in the world. It's not as though we'll be facing giants or superhumans, is it?"

Barabanschikov's voiceover returns: "The useful thing about the set-up we have is that we can let our players dip their toes in the water, so to speak. Everybody in the press club knows that if they try to press the boys too hard or trip them up, they will not be allowed back, and so we've ended up with this situation, where the reporters throw softball questions and those which won't stray onto hot-button territory in public and then chase me and Juri down privately for the real dirt. That's just how it's done here."

"So what do you say to the rumours that the team may be forced to play against sentient ponies?" The question comes from a young-looking man, clad in a rumpled suit and looking a distinct step below the rest of the immaculate press. Petrukhnov blinks twice and brushes his hair back with one hand - it's the only sign that he's anything other than composed, but it's a question everybody has been dancing around for some time. Barabanschikov explains: "Of course, you do occasionally get new blood who don't yet understand the procedure. You can identify them because they're the ones who treat every question like they're trying to break some kind of conspiracy."

"I have heard people talking," starts Petrukhnov, obviously picking his words carefully, "and it is absolutely possible we may be paired up with the representatives from the Equestrian States at some point in the competition. However, while I have yet to discuss the matter with Mr. Barabanschikov and the rest of the team, I believe in such an eventuality we would simply refuse to take the field. No more, no less. Next question, please."

"It was a good answer from Juri," says Barabanschikov, in true talking head style filmed sitting in his darkened office. "Kept his cool, refused to be caught off-guard by an unexpected question and most importantly, gave nobody any bulletin-board fodder. The thought of playing against vermin such as those "sentient" ponies naturally disgusts us, but getting fired up about it does nothing to help us whatsoever. I figured that if they wanted something to stick on the back pages, they'd have to work harder for it."

Smerdyakov to Ex-Teammate: "I'll Break Your ****ing Leg Next Time"
By: Vladislav Rodzyanko, Football Correspondent - 6.Svostrok, 2142

Earlier in the week, we brought you reports from across the league of players giving their opinions on Smyslova Virmest's chances of success in the upcoming Multiverse Premier League season, due to kick off in a little under four days time. Many were positive, but most of the attention was drawn by Milan Vodopyanov, the striker sold to Djalikhan Sargkisia in 2140, who was openly dismissive of his old team, calling them "one-hit wonders" and saying they would probably be "an embarrassment to the nation". Although the general reception was negative, team captain Juri Petrukhnov declined to comment when asked, saying only "Milan has his own opinion, and all I wish to do is say I respectfully disagree".

Enter noted diplomat Frantisek Smerdyakov. In an appearance on Vokroga, Smerdyakov wasted no time in addressing his former teammate, giving host Dmitry Antipin the most desultory of small talk before blasting Vodopyanov. Although blessedly and surprisingly mostly free from profanity, the hotheaded Smerdyakov accused Vodopyanov of "shameful jealousy", saying he'd make especially sure to send him a postcard from every nation Smyslova visited "just to rub in that I'm here and he's at home, licking his wounds" and that the next time he faced Vodopyanov's Sargkisia team, he'd break the striker's leg.

Renata Kustova-Valiev, head of the Rodukov Lzherusskia Myachko, was quick to respond the next day, issuing Smerdyakov with a significant fine of a week's wages and warning him that any future outbursts would be met with both financial and football penalties, implying that he would be banned for bringing Lzher football into disrepute. When asked for further comment today, however, Smerdyakov seemed unrepentant, refusing to apologise and adding only "just because we used to be friends, I'll let Milan choose which leg".

Smyslova Virmest begin their MPL campaign in the Kamestana Obtilev in just a few short days, when they host Venta de la Mesilla's Strangers FC.

“There it was!”

The old women pointed to a slab of concrete, a grey desert of which the monotony was only broken by small, numbered poles which reminded of a war cemetery. She collapsed, trying to navigate herself - an impossible task.

“Or here... Maybe a bit to the right.”

She doubted a second, her tear stopping for a second.

“It’s all just gone. My house, the yard... The trees in the back...”

Now the waterworks collapsed on her as her trembling finger pointed to one of the poles that once had been carrying a multitude of apples, now holding only grey and dead letters. As he ordered the cameraman to turn it off, Leonid Borsov consoled his grandmother. This was what he did it all for, he realised and it was all the motivation he needed.

I’ll show the audience which kind of scumbag Vladimir Zivsev is!
I’ll demonstrate that he’s an autocrat! A shady mobster figure who destroys lives!
The public opinion will judge upon him, by my magnificent research!

Grand ideals tend to find their end once seated in a small chair in the Creek Vista Arena. They were with around sixty, seated in a visitors area that could hold a multitude. The Patistani hosts had taken well care of them, but it seemed a bit ludicrous. The ‘supporters’ of Dyatinsk Barbarians was a silly name. There were more officials and guests from Zivsev who had made the trip to Patistan than regular people who actually cared enough about this squad to spend money on the expensive travels abroad to stand by this team.

Leonid slowly ogled the line-up. It wasn’t really a team, it was a bunch. It seemed as if anyone who was discontent in the Top Division had received a contract for the Barbarians and the result was a squad with a proper offensive compartment and a deplorable defence. The goalie, Bogusz, was quite a talent but the back four were overall poor. Goretzka on the six was a risk, as he never really convinced at the highest level. Admittedly, Kroempf, Halmiini and Gelson were interesting names but would these difficult characters care for balance in the squad?

However, his interest in the trio wasn’t exactly located in their sportive capacity. Three heavy contracts, remarkable transfers. But where did Zivsev got the money to buy such stars? To build a pitch that surely would be a financial nightmare? That was why Leonid was here. So far, there had been few clues. As expected, the official sources refused any cooperation - after all, Zivsev was a personal friend of Kazys Portnii.

He would have to find new roads - and as Trygve Andresen passed the opener to Harde, Leonid realised he wouldn’t find that in Patistan.

Line-up: Bogusz --- Parcenivas, Kallas, Dorosevs, Petricius --- Goretzka, Halmiini, Gelson --- Andresen, Harde, Kroempf
(Bench: Balmer, Libberhard, Magnusson, Stemmer, Bentson, Ladsell, Livorski)

"The wind will always go east"

That is what I was always told by my mother, "The wind will never go west for us, it never has and never will" she always said that when I ask her about it. I lived in a pretty rural area of Kreigsborne, we never really had much as we were quite poor and the only friends I had were going to Golden Bridge for the summer so I was in an unenviable position.

I was in my room, tidying up then I heard my mom exclaim "They're coming! they are coming!" as soon as I heard that she carried me away into the nearby woods. I did not know what was going on, she was in hysteria and I did not know where my dad was.

And then...

Gunshots, everywhere...my mom's once lively face now regressed into a neutral, lifeless expression. Before she faded permanently she said "The wind was heading west today...maybe I should have known..."

Then her smile disappeared.

So I look upon my new home in Trinity today and I look at the stadium...

and my smile faded.

I saw the security, then I just turned away and went inside.

It was late one night, after a practice under the lights, when Martin Hoover noticed a note stuck to the inside of his locker, reading simply, “Call for Boozer from Kenny in Tucson” and a number. He recognized the handwriting as belonging to Anna, the cute but uncatchable redhead who manned the phone, but he hadn’t been expecting a call, let alone from Tucson and especially not one using his old fraternity nickname. Having the last name “Hoover” opened a person up to nicknames based on vacuum cleaners and United States Presidents, both of which Martin thought would be fertile ground for nicknames, but his pledgemasters in the Pima College chapter of Chi Delta Iota had called him Boozer, and it had stuck.

He found Anna in what had been the front office when the training facility was still a school, sitting behind the desk typing furiously at her outdated laptop. He presented her the note along with his best quizzical look.

“I don’t know,” she said sympathetically, looking up at him with big blue eyes, “I couldn’t get much else out of him. He sounded seriously panicked.”

Frowning, Martin accepted the phone receiver from her and dialed the number on the scrap of paper. An exhausted-sounding male voice answered.

“This is Kenny.”

“Kenny, this is Martin Hoover. You called?”

“Boozer!” the boy exclaimed, “Oh my God, it is good to hear from you. It’s Kenny Roth, man, president of Chi Delt at Pima, and I gotta tell you, we fucked up. Shit’s bad here, man. We need you.”

“What’s wrong?” Under different circumstances, the boy might have been asking Martin to help get a party going, but judging by the breathless quality of his voice, Martin guessed something more serious was wrong. He had recently been named the Chi Delts’ national president, but he had been assured it was mostly a figurehead role, good for recruiting rushes and bragging about.

“Somebody got hurt at one of our parties,” Kenny explained, slowly getting ahold of himself. “He’s some kind of big deal, and the cops are all over it, and we’re so fucked, man, can you please just help us?” His grip started to slip as the sentence dragged on until he was nearly sobbing by the end of it. Martin made a face at Anna and tried to reassure Kenny.

“Alright, alright, I’ll see if I can get out there,” he said, “Just try to hang tight, alright?”

“Alright. Thanks, Boozer, you’re the best.”

Martin hung up the receiver and left the room, wondering what the best way to go about this was. He had to get back to Tucson, preferably tonight, but he’d ridden the team bus here and he didn’t have his own car. The Strangers’ practice facility had once been the high school for the town of Ajo, which was abandoned shortly after the Strange came because it was too isolated to be sustained. Fortunately (or unfortunately) for the Strangers, isolation was just what Coach Finke wanted in a practice facility and since, as he said, the price was right, the Strangers management had rolled a generator and a water truck out into the desert and set up shop.

Finke was in his office, back toward the locker rooms, reading over some kind of diagram when Martin found him. He looked distracted, which could either play to Martins’ favor or not, but he decided he had to at least try and get back to Tucson tonight.

“Hey, Coach,” he said tentatively as Finke appeared to reach a break in his work.

“Yes, Martin, what is it?” He looked up over his glasses, displeased but not overtly hostile.

“I have an emergency in Tucson,” he said, “I need to get back there, and miss probably some of tomorrow’s practice.”

Coach frowned, then made an odd face Martin didn’t recognize. He looked several times as though he were going to say something before he finally spit out the last sentence Martin expected him to say.

“Pack your bags.”

“I’m sorry?” Martin wasn’t sure he’d heard him right. Was he being fired for wanting a day off practice?

“Trevor and I have business to attend to in the city,” Coach went on, “Pack your bags, and you can come with us. We leave in an hour.”

“What kind of business has you leaving in the middle of the night?” Martin asked, realizing the hypocrisy of the question as soon as it crossed his tongue.

“I pray not the same as yours, sir.”

Founded by a rich entrepreneur by the name of Garrett Shearwater in 1947, the Santa Barbara Storm, then dubbed Santa Barbara Athletic, were the original team in the archipelago. The team quickly secured themselves a spot in the fourteen-team Peninsula League and managed to place a respectable fifth place in their opening season. Over their first sixteen years, the team stayed in the Peninsula League, staying in the middle of the pack almost constantly save for a pair of second-place finishes in 1955 and 1956 under future legend Carlton Herfeldt, until in 1963 the Peninsula League abruptly collapsed due to financial troubles.

The newly-dubbed (as of 1961) Storm looked elsewhere, Shearwater ultimately founding his own league, the Archipelago Premier League (APL). Over one season, six teams played a double-round robin and the Storm managed to place second. In 1964, Zafron Andeck rose to power and all of the Storm's players were drafted into the military to support Andeck's autocratic conquests. Shearwater died two weeks later and the team, although technically now in the hands of Shearwater's wealthy son Jordan, played a total of one game over the next eight years.

Adam Shearwater, utterly disinterested in football, managed to pawn off the Storm trademark to another wealthy heir named Brennan Alistair in 1973, when Brady Morrison, more democratic than the Andeck dictatorship, was in power. The Santa Barbara Storm joined the first attempt at the Greater Llamanean Football Premier League and were assigned to the second of five divisions. They placed eleventh of sixteen for three years in a row before William Anveir rose to power and shut down the entire league to replace it with a far more corrupt one, the Llamanean Premier League.

Brennan Alistair sold the team back to Jordan Shearwater and fled to Vjaalsbürg to escape Anveir's regime, and Shearwater entered the Storm into the Llamanean Premier League, where they bounced around all five divisions for eleven years until Anveir was inevitably shot and deposed. Alistair had died in exile, and so had Jordan Shearwater, so the team went up for auction and was bought by local businessman Nicholas Bay, who instantly entered the team into the Llamanean Third League, the third tier in the second LFL. The team performed decently, staying in the third tier until 2008.

Nicholas Bay sold the team to Alistair's nephew, Thomas Alistair, in 2011, and Alistair entered the team into the MPL.

STAFF

MANAGER: Hanson Vanderbilt (53 y/o , Helvetican)
Known for years as the chosen successor of Alexander Donalbain, whose twenty years managing is unsurpassed in club history, Vanderbilt finally gets a chance to shine at his predecessor's sudden retirement. Known as a relaxed manager and brilliant tactician, Vanderbilt could shine, but will need a tighter grip on his squad if he's to take them to the top of the table.

ASSISTANT MANAGER: Jason Donalbain (35 y/o, Llamanean)
The son of Donalbain, whose playing days as a striker in the second tier of the Llamanean leagues ended two seasons ago, Donalbain has a reputation as a leader and often works out with the players. Vanderbilt is starting to take him under his wing, but for now he'll mostly be the link between the players and the managerial staff.

ASSISTANT MANAGER: Nathaniel Simon (48 y/o, Llamanean)
Simon, like Vanderbilt, is a master of tactics, probably even better than his colleague. However, he isn't much of a public speaker and will rely on Donalbain to convey his messages.

TEAM TRAINER: Allen Bartoli (56 y/o, Hicañan)
A fairly typical team trainer. Quiet but good at his job.

GOALKEEPING SPECIALIST: Fabian Beckenbauer (35 y/o, Helvetican)
Formerly the team's best keeper, Beckenbauer was brought in as a coach when he retired. Stern and unforgiving, but apparently a brilliant coach.

Despite a stuttering, uneven performance from the Lzher league champions, star striker Ilja Pronin rescued a point for Smyslova Virmest with two late goals in the opening day of the Multiverse Premier League.

Hosting Venta de la Mesilla’s Strangers FC in front of a packed house at the Kamestana Obtilev, Smyslova got off to a characteristically fast start and tested the Strangers’ defence early and often. Goalkeeper Jerred Wilcox made an excellent reflex stop just five minutes into the game to deny a surging Benedikt Khudiakov and was on point again to deflect a Pronin header onto the crossbar and over off the resulting corner, but was let down by Martin Hoover just after the quarter-hour mark – the defender appeared to lose track of his marking assignment and allowed Petyr Zedginidze a free path to goal.

Stung by the early goal and surrounded by hostile fans, the Strangers stuck to their battle plan – absorb the offensive pressure, stay patient and attack with overwhelming force as soon as a weak point opened up – and were justly rewarded. A penalty appeal was somewhat unfairly turned down, with Tigran Galinovsky admitting post-match that after seeing the replay, he deserved to be penalised for bringing down Allan Bauer, but Bauer took his revenge within moments by outjumping captain Juri Petrukhnov and powering a header home from the ensuing corner.

If there is a significant hole in the Smyslova lineup, it is generally accepted to be the wing-back position. Wing-backs are chosen not primarily for their offensive game but with a bigger eye to it than one would expect from a defender, and the problem with that decision is exemplified with the miscue that led to the Strangers’ second goal. Ziven Skotnikov, given the start to allow Branko Ozhiganov to fully recover from the ankle injury he picked up late last season, had pushed up the field to support the attack but, advancing too far, ended up left badly out of position when Trevor Hyde found Shaun Bennett in space. With Alexander Malone cutting in from the right, Bennett forced Petrukhnov to meet him and played the ball across for Malone – Lubor Gazaeva-Stepanenko got a glove on the shot, but it was not enough.

Smyslova’s first-half woes were compounded in the ironically-named injury time: with less than a minute in the half, Alex Nikoladze challenged Micah Vinson deep in Strangers territory and came away first with the ball, then Vinson’s elbow in his face. The Strangers defender protested it was an accident but, with Nikoladze obviously dazed, should consider himself lucky to have escaped with just a yellow card. Preliminary reports indicate Nikoladze suffered a mild concussion and while he was only withdrawn from the game as a precaution, Arkadi Barabanschikov confirmed that he would not be playing against Gloriax’s Rangers FC.

True to form, when the team returned for the second half it was with a changed formation – Petyr Zedginidze was moved to work alongside Ilja Pronin rather than feeding him, with Frantisek Smerdyakov also pushed up into attacking midfield. The move is a trademark Barabanschikov play, as it leaves the centre midfield more open for exploitation and in doing so, further sacrifices defense for offense. It is a tactic that has won Smyslova a lot of games over the last three years, but it relies heavily on pushing the tempo of the game higher than the opposition can endure and is definitely not suited for all situations.

Unfortunately, within ten minutes the flaws of the system had been clearly exposed – with both strikers and both midfielders high up the field and Benedikt Khudiakov drafted to hold the fort in the middle of the pitch, Jesus Anthony cleared the ball and by lucky chance, found Allan Bauer free and in space. Smerdyakov made a heroic effort to get back and join in the defensive effort, but he was a step too slow to prevent the quick break from coalescing – Bauer linked up with Shaun Bennett, beating Ziven Skotnikov with some smart passing, and hit Trevor Hyde with an incisive through ball. Gazaeva-Stepanenko tried valiantly to cover all the angles, but was beaten by a simple lob from Hyde the moment he went to ground.

Down by two, one would expect most managers to retract their earlier changes; Barabanschikov, however, is certainly not most managers and instead decided to double down, leaving Smerdyakov playing high up the field with Michal Makarenko and substituting left winger Janos Pogrebnyak for Ravil Kostyukov, leaving the team with a hole on the left wing but plugging the middle. With half an hour left, it was a brave move because a fourth goal would have killed the game stone-dead - as strong on offense as they are, even Smyslova would have little chance of recouping a three-goal deficit in that short a timeframe.

Thankfully, the next name on the scoresheet was to be Lzher.

The move started less than promisingly - Tigran Galinovsky and Dmitri Reshetnikov both picked up yellow cards for questionable tackles - but a free kick outside the Smyslova box was deflected and easily saved by Gazaeva-Stepanenko and distributed straight to Kostyukov. With almost his first touches of the ball since coming on, Kostyukov sold Norton Beasley a dummy and bypassed the advancing Mac Kelley with a neat one-two, playing off Benedikt Khudiakov. Kostyukov cut out right, faking a cross to Smerdyakov or Zedginidze on the far side of goal, and played Ilja Pronin into the box - Kelley made a valiant attempt to block the shot, but Pronin smoothly put the ball past him and under Jerred Wilcox.

Neither goalkeeper would be too keen to put this game on his highlight reel, but the blame for the equaliser has to lie with Wilcox himself. Ilja Pronin, set loose on goal by Petyr Zedginidze, may have been a little over-dramatic in going to ground, but the fact remains that he was a good step ahead of substitute Lillian Dorsey and was not unfairly judged to have been taken out by the Strangers' goalkeeper. Strangely, Wilcox escaped the book but a penalty was awarded nonetheless - in his post-match comments, the referee noted that while he was obligated to award the penalty, he did not see enough malice in the tackle to warrant a card as well.

The decision will inevitably be subject to the media version of an autopsy, as it is undeniable that it had a hand in deciding the game. Smyslova fans will point out that Pronin was through on goal, Strangers that there was little obvious to distinguish Wilcox taking the ball from Lubor Gazaeva-Stepanenko claiming it earlier in the game from Alexander Malone, but one way or the other, Pronin's penalty was taken marvellously. His history from the spot has not been excellent, but the nerve he has often been accused of lacking was front and centre as he smashed the ball high, top right corner.

Recognising when he was onto a good thing, Barabanschikov immediately ordered everybody to get behind the ball. With seven minutes on the clock and a point rescued, even the Doctor didn't have the audacity to attempt a winner - his men had saved a point and it was time to cut their losses. The final score: Smyslova Virmest 3, Strangers FC 3.

A Great Stadium

By Incognito

Two matches in Gênua’s Stadium and I don’t see any problem with it. On the contrary. The Gold of Bay is perfect, beautiful. Of course, the renovation of Olympic complex was controversial. After fifty years, the complex was modern and comfortable, and it was as historical build of our city. I grew up in these fields, playing basket, volley, swimming. My children grew up too. When the mayor talked about transforms everything in a parking lot of a renovated structure, my wishes was put him in a box and kick of this for the river. But the new Stadium has a good structure, I admit. Ok, for now we don’t have a Gymnasium, aquatic gears and the building for others Olympic sports. And obviously, Mr. mayor Hayek isn’t interested. But the UC Gênua can continue this construction. The association doesn’t have much money, but with our help they can finish it. Then, the best choice for us now is go to the stadium and support the team, liking soccer or not. Mainly today, when they are fighting for an international competition, we are very necessary. With this visibility, the team may finally get a sponsor. After all, good matches and good results denote more money, and talking about matches.

Image

The first shock against Cornellians was a very good game. Gênua made a very offensive first half. With Albertazzi, Bianchi, Bova, Boccoli in forward they controlled the adversary transition, and with the help of Citati, Papini and Santarelli in midfield, the defense practically didn’t see any attack for a fourty-five minutes. When Boccoli Chest trapped and scored with thirty minutes, he confirmed the domination. But it still had the second half, and Cornellians did their job. With fifty-seven minutes, Dobrescu scored a goal with a free kick getting the draw. Gênua tried to make a reply, but the adversary had the possession in most of the second half. The home fans did his job too, cheering on all the game. But they liked the result. “We may do better for the next fight against them”, said a fan with her family. And I don’t know about the next match against Cornellians, but Gênua really did a better second match, including a strange goal.

Image

This unusual goal by Bova did the 2-0 and confirmed the first victory for Gênua. With one victory and one draw, the team is now in second position. Zanni commented the results, “We’re beginning, and this position doesn’t have security. But we’ll fight for this and for the first position. The next match against Blainville can be decisive”. Questioned about good results with the favorites, Zanni confirmed, “Obviously it is important, but the fight against non-favorites are as important as. And all competition has a surprise”.

Taari-Ranokia United 0-0 Società Sportiva Principato
Società Sportiva Principato 2-0 Rogerton Valladar CF (31' S. Rossi, 59' M. Savrasov)

After a disappointing debut against Taari-Ranokia United, in which the team captained by Massimo Brancaccio parked the bus for ninety minutes, S. S. Principato won against Rogerton Valladar CF in their first match played at the Stadio Napoleone I. A free kick by Sergio Rossi in the thirty-first minute of play made the ball fly far above the heads of the Darmenian defenders, and into the opposing team's goal, to the delight of the crowd gathered in Ferraia's stadium. S. S. Principato begun the second half of the game with Giorgio Garozzo and James Baker replacing the tired Matteo Gaggioli and Dario Villa. A long pass by Garozzo in the 57th minute of play allowed the team to bypass Rogerton Valladar's midfielders; the ball was picked up by Richetti, who passed it to Savrasov, that scored the second goal of the match. Ahmed Ouaziz replaced Savrasov on the field fifteen minutes before the end of the match, almost scoring S. S. Principato's third goal.

The situation became clearer as the car rolled north through the empty desert of Yuma Proving Ground, and by the time they turned south again at Gila Bend and got back into cell range, it was pretty abundantly clear what had happened. Elvin Klein, a player for the Pima College Aztecs men’s soccer team who was also a reserve for the Strangers, had been pledging Chi Delta Iota when something had got wrong, leading him to be severely injured. What was less clear was how to proceed.

“Take me to the hospital,” Trevor said at length after spending forty miles staring into the dashboard. “I can be with Elvin, see what the doctors say at least.” Martin saw the value in what Trevor was doing. It was exactly what he did on the soccer field, playing to his strengths, putting himself in position to do the most good, and staying out of everyone else’s way. There was no need to speak the rest of the plan out loud; Martin would deal with the fraternity, do some damage control while trying to figure out exactly what happened while Coach would deal with the fallout from the club’s perspective. They rode all the way to Tucson in near-complete silence.

Their first stop was the hospital, where the three men hustled in silence to the front desk. Martin approached first, then stepped back, embarrassed, when he realized he wasn’t confident of the kid’s name.

“We’re here to see Elvin Klein,” Finke told the nurse at the station.

“He just woke up,” said the nurse, “Who can I say is here?”

“Tell him Coach Finke.” The nurse made a short call and then waved them back.

Elvin was young, not more than eighteen, and now that Martin saw him, he looked familiar. He was lying in the hospital bed, sitting up, looking alert and comfortable, but when he saw the trio of Strangers, he looked down at his feet at the end of the bed.

“Hey, Coach,” he said weakly as they entered.

“Hey, champ,” said Coach, with more levity than Martin had ever heard from him, “How are you feeling?”

“My leg fucking hurts, Coach.” Elvin spoke, then realized what he’d said and returned his gaze to his feet. “These painkillers are stronger than I thought,” he said in the half-murmur of an ashamed child.

“It’s alright, son,” Coach assured him, “Trevor’s going to stay here with you, to talk to the doctors. Have you seen your parents?”

“Yeah, they came by,” said Elvin, “They both have to work, though. They’ll be happy Trevor’s here.” Elvin shifted his glance to Martin, and suddenly his eyes widened as though he’d realized something. “Boozer,” he said, “Oh, shit, Boozer. It was an accident, man, a total fluke. They didn’t do anything wrong. Don’t kick them out, man, please don’t.”

Martin looked uncomfortably over at Coach, who was side-eyeing him. Even though he already knew, Martin looked at Elvin for confirmation.

“What was an accident?” he asked levelly.

“This,” said Elvin, “Me getting hurt. It wasn’t their fault. Don’t let them get in trouble, please.”

“Why don’t you tell me what happened?” Martin said, trying to keep the emotion out of his voice. If he had been told to keep quiet about this, there would be Hell to pay. “Tell me everything. Don’t try to protect them.”

Elvin relayed the story slowly, with occasional lapses as he grimaced in pain or drifted off under the influence of whatever was in the bag connected to his arm. He had been at a Chi Delt rush event, playing soccer in the dark on campus, when the ball had gone astray. He’d gone to retrieve it, and been hit by a car going too fast with its headlights out. Nobody had gotten the plates of the car, and only fraternity members and rushes had been present.

Martin felt a lump in his throat as the gravity of the situation dawned on him. He scarcely believed the story hearing it from Elvin himself while he was on medically-prescribed truth serum; why in God’s name would anyone on the outside believe it coming from a bunch of fraternity brothers? Coach side-eyed him again, and motioned toward the door.

“I’ll see you later, Elvin,” Martin said quickly as he was shuffled out.

“Later, dude.”

New Beginnings

Part two

With their one and only preparation match a 3-1 defeat, it wasn't the ideal build up that Sonny had been hoping for. He had managed to work out a rough formation and strategy for the match. Bill Parker, against all the odds, had proven of some worth, as it turned out he had a near encyclopaedic knowledge of foreign and lower leagues. For the most part though Sonny had gone with the players he knew. He had trusted in the players that had already served him well during his time with the U-21s and at club-level in the second division.

The game had started poorly. Handon United as had been anticipated were the sharper side, and were two goals up inside twenty-five minutes. Sonny had also made a raft of substitutions at half time, taking of most of their strongest players, in an attempt to see as many of the newcomers as possible. The game in the end, looked to be heading for a resounding 3-0 hammering, with neither side particularly breaking sweat. However in the eightieth minute one of the younger players Ismal Keirute managed to get away from his marker in the midfield. Sonny found himself on his feet roaring the youngster on. Parker too was up off his seat whooping wildly. Reaching the by-line he managed to cut the ball back for fellow substitute Dahrla Bhosz, who couldn't fail to find the net. The game finished 3-1.

It was the strangest thing, especially given that Jock Sonny was in no way prone to sentiment, but had the game finished 3-0 it would have been a very different story. However that goal gave him a little hope, just something to cling on to, one little kernel of optimism that things would be okay.

'Okay that was a good effort lads...' Sonny screwed up his eyes at this mistake. 'and Girls. Great work Ismal, and Dahrla you took your goal well. That wasn't easy to convert under that pressure.' He gave Keirute a fatherly pat on the back and considered doing the same to Bhosz, then worried that the Deadoran may take it as a patriarchal act, and decided not to. If he knew Deadorans correctly, even having a male manager would be as much as she could take.

'That was awesome team!' Said Parker following them into the dressing room, and placing his large arm round Sonny's shoulders. 'I never though we would get a goal in that game.' Parker wasn't the most conventional coach Sonny had ever worked with.

'Okay Bill, that's fine.' Sonny said, raising a hand tentatively. 'I don't see much point in digesting the game right now. Lets meet up tomorrow morning before we fly out to Aestate and have a chat then, right now I reckon we all get some well earned rest. Stay out of the Noviteran casinos and nightclubs, if you have to unwind lets do it in the hotel eh?'

---

In the hotel bar that night Jock Sonny ordered himself a small malt whisky and sat himself down in one of the comfortable hotel armchairs. Novitera was in interesting place, you could say what you liked about capitalists, they knew a lot about luxury hotels. Sonny was pleased to see that very few of the team had joined come down to the bar, upstairs getting rest was the best place for them. He never, as a rule, placed orders on the team regarding staying out, etc. Instead he preferred to trust them to make the right choices.

It wasn't long however before he was joined at the bar by Bill Parker. He groaned as he eased himself down into the seat opposite Sonny, plonking his bottle of lager down in front of him.

'Hey buddy.' He said leaning back and exhaling audibly, as if to show that he was at ease. 'This is the life huh. Just a couple of old pros sitting digesting the beautiful game.'

'Aye.' Replied Sonny not really looking up. However in that moment, and for the second time, he underestimated Parker.

'Listen John, Buddy. I'm getting kind of worried you don't like me.' He said shifting in his seat. 'I get, beleive me, I probably wasn't your first choice, but this is a big deal to me. Now I know I don't have the experience that you have, and I'm not going to be much good on the training pitch. But give me a chance here. You're the boss, anything you need me to do, you just need to ask.'

The Daily Worker
MPL NEWS
Marrian McFadden reports

Cornellian's 1-0 AS Blainville
Duke Street Stadium, Handon, (Att. 45,000)
Goals: Cleopas 37' (Schottia)
Possession: 53% - 47%
Shots: 11 - 6
On-target: 4 - 1

Cornellians remained unbeaten in the MPL as they got their first win of the campaign against a resilient AS Blainville side at Duke street stadium. The Eagles had previously drawn their first game against Aestaten side UC Gênua, only a late Cosmin Dobrescu free kick was enough to save the point. However it was a different story back in Handon, where Cornellians were good enough for the win.

Schottia's newest club seem to be finding some sort of form, or at least the ability to get results. Cornellians started the game brightly, the midfield pairing of Mark Kelman and Sean O'Grady seeing a fair bit of the ball in the opening half hour. The Scots nearly took the lead early on with a surging run from fullback Santiago Lowe. The Cetan got the better of Simon-Pierre, of the clan Baril, and managed to get the ball into the feet of Cosmin Dobrescu, who unfortunately pulled his shot just wide.

The Eagles tested Blainville again on 24 minutes when a Willie McIntyre shot stung the hands of keeper Gauthier. The winger, with one Schottia cup to his name, managed to exploit a similar weakness down the vistors' left, before smashing his shot in low across the floor.

The breakthrough came 13 minutes later when a Mark Kelman through ball, aimed for Dobrescu, was cut out by the defence. The ball was picked up by Daniel Cleopas who made an excelent solo run before sliding the ball under Gauthier, and into the net to make in Cornellians 1-0 AS Blainville.

To say that it was a one-sided game would be untrue and there were plenty of chances for the away side, particularly in the second half where both teams had good chances. In particular for the home side, Cleopas headed narrowly over from a Dobrescu corner, and substitute Ismal Keirut had a strong penalty appeal turned down when he was bundled in the box late on.

Cornellians, however, will take heart from their opening two games. A win to please the home crowd and a valuable point on the road. All it all it looks like the team seem to be finding their feet and are beginning to learn to play as a unit.

SPORT | Multiverse Premier League
Matchday 1 and 2

Wednesday, December 17, 2014

The inaugural season of the Multiverse Premier League has begun, and the United States’ FC Raedburg had some stories to tell about matchday one and two of the new tournament. On the agenda were Recreativo of San José Guyabal away, and SC United and Metropolitan of The Greater Vakolicci Haven at home. The Dragons sit top of Group B after 4-1 and 3-0 victories respectively, an excellent achievement for the team who face a rather difficult group.

Matchday One of the Multiverse Premier League kicked-off, and Dako Redfield’s prepared Raedburg side took to the field at Sakhalinsk Stadium to face Recreativo Bahía Peñas Blancas. Redfield, the fans, and the players were looking for a perfect start to their first season in the MPL, but hopes of that were soon wiped away when Recreativo’s center-back intercepted Adrïn’s low corner. The defender evaded Kroos’ well-timed slide tackle, and then crossed the ball to the midfielder on the left wing who cut into the box and shot. Despite Zienen’s best efforts, he could only punch the ball away, with Recreativo’s striker taking his chances and scoring into the top-left. 6’: Recreativo 1-0 Raedburg. The players took to the center circle for kick-off, and Rubin made a run through Recreativo’s defense. The right-midfielder then crossed the ball into the box which reached Rodríguez’s head, only to hit off the post and to be cleared up-field by Recreativo. Inside the next ten minutes, Raedburg had numerous chances to equalize, which the Recreativo goalkeeper managed to save. It wouldn’t end there - the Dragons were determined to make sure they went into the first-half with at least a goal. Their time came just before the break when Di María received Rodrígo’s through ball in Recreativo’s half. The Argentinian dodged several players and tackles before crossing the ball toward Araädel who volleyed home to equalize. 43’: Recreativo 1-1 Raedburg.

HT: Recreativo 1-1 Raedburg

The whistle sounded and Raedburg kicked-off the second-half. With the first minute of the half barely gone, Rubin played a fantastic through ball to forward Lewis Gïll. The 22-year old Zitran wonder kid, after cruising past the Recreativo defense, fantastically found the back of the net with his left foot - the ball soaring past the keeper and into the bottom-right corner. 46’: Recreativo 1-2 Raedburg. The opposition weren’t going to let their visitors get the better of them, and in just five minutes they took eight attempts on Dako Zienen - who remained an unbreakable wall, becoming harder to beat after every shot. Zienen eventually scooped the ball up before Recreativo could score, and rolled out to Danta who made a break through the center of the field, passing to Kazern on the right. Kazern made it to the edge of Recreativo’s box, when he was fouled by the opposition defense. The referee had a word with the defender and awarded Raedburg a free-kick. It was Lewis Gïll who stepped up to take it, and he couldn’t have done a better job. He looked around the stadium, gave the thumbs up to Raedburg’s players in the box, and struck the ball with his right. The Recreativo keeper didn’t even see it coming, and the ball met the back of the net with a huge cheer from the visiting Raedburg crowd. 58’: Recreativo 1-3 Raedburg. The next twenty minutes saw numerous attempts from both sides, and a seventy-fifth minute substitution for Raedburg: Anderson Talisca coming on to replace James Rodríguez, who seemed rather fatigued. The Brazilian adapted quickly to Raedburg’s tactics for the game, and he made the difference on the eighty minute mark with a spectacular header which made its way over the heads of Recreativo’s defense and Raedburg’s attack alike, and just passing the keeper’s grip. 80’: Recreativo 1-4 Raedburg.

Attendance: 75,901

#5. Kazern (RB)
#8. Kaïs (CM)

#7. Lewis Gïll (ST)

SUBSTITUTES
#12. Adriel Navas (GK)
#16. Gonzalez (RB)
#25. Rodrígo (CB)
#18. Kroos (CM)
#11. Pazhkelazo (LM)
#13. Däko (AM)
#22. Raúl (ST)

After success away at Sakhalinsk Stadium, the Dragons returned home to the Republic Stadium to face their next opponents, SC United and Metropolitan. Winter in Sacarpa is rather harsh. It’s significantly warm, but there are thunder storms and heavy rainfall almost all day everyday - and there was no escaping the unforgiving skies as the players took to the wet field for matchday two of the Multiverse Premier League. The bad weather conditions didn’t pose much of a problem for Raedburg during the first-half, as most of the players were used to it, but it was definitely a problem for the SC United and Metropolitan team. The Dragons took the lead after a series of short, quick passes up and down the field, entertaining the home support, and it was Däko who was to thank for the lead. He decided he wanted a shot at goal, and so he received Pazhkelazo’s pass and raced through into United and Metropolitan’s box, lobbing the ball straight past the goalkeeper. 20’: Raedburg 1-0 SC United and Metropolitan. The fans wanted more than just one goal before half-time, and they got just what they asked for. With ten minutes to go, Kale Kazern took to the right wing with the ball and paced himself past several United and Metropolitan players, keeping possession the whole time, before launching the ball across to Rodríguez. The Colombian Regional Cup star volleyed the ball home, pleasing the fans. 36’: Raedburg 2-0 SC United and Metropolitan. The majority of the first-half was played in the opposition’s half, with the odd touch or two back in Raedburg’s half.

HT: Raedburg 2-0 SC United and Metropolitan

The teams left the changing rooms with the fans expecting Raedburg to continue dominating the match, but SC United and Metropolitan took their chances as the rain began to calm down. Shortly after kick-off, United’s central-midfielders worked together to push the ball past Raedburg’s defense, only to be stopped short by Zienen’s excellent save. United now had a chance to come back with a corner. The corner was taken and it soared high, landing on the striker’s head, who headed it through. To the relief of the home fans, the ball came into contact with Zienen’s arms and bounced into Goméz’s possession, who quickly cleared it. Midway through the second-half, SC United and Metropolitan’s striker was injured by Danta and had to be subbed off. Danta was then shown a yellow card. Following this, team captain Zienen told head defender Goméz to ensure that the team played a more defensive style of football. Raedburg were rewarded for this decision late into the half when they managed to counter-attack United’s play. Kaïs controlled Zienen’s long pass from the box, and passed it down to Pazhkelazo on the left wing, who then passed it right to Dzukë. The young and talented 20-year old central-midfielder struck the ball right past United’s goalkeeper, ensuring Raedburg won the match. 85’: Raedburg 3-0 SC United and Metropolitan.

Highale City sitting pretty

Highale City fans had something to shout about in the start of the MPL, as the Val Hallan team took 4 points to place them second in Group H

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 1-1 Highale City

Highale's campaign got off to a very poor start. Following a red card and scored penalty going in favour of Hoffenheim, Highale spent most of the game playing catch up. Pérez Guthrie put down a devious sliding tackle on a Hoffenheim striker, and quickly saw a red card put an end to his debut. A somewhat dull and dreary first 80 minutes of the game started to boil over towards the end, with subbed on midfielder Navi Kambar pulling off a tremendous heel flick to send to defense guessing. The match played on with 3 minutes added time, which was spent with a very fragile situation in the middle of the pitch, with the ball going neither way.

Highale City 4-2 Slavko Warsaw

It was a fairly dominant affair put on by Highale against The Slavic Union's Slavko Warsaw side. With reserve player Anders Halthikie taking the place of the suspended Guthrie, Highale started their home campaign in style, treating the fans to a 6 goal extravaganza. Seb Miller scored the first goal after 23 minutes, with a simple 8 yard shot slotting into the back of the net. Falkar Terg unintentionally scored after 37 minutes, with a misguided cross hitting the far post and falling in. Slavko pulled one back after half time, before Anderi Novikov put them back in their place minutes later. Another Slavko goal was made irrelevant by a sublime 30 yard volley from Seb Miller. Ralof Klethi was taken off at 72 minutes, as a result of falling on his face and busting his nose.

Havenssport
presenting
S.C. United and Metropolitan

They've done it again, for the 3rd year running. After a convulsive season, S.C. United and Metropolitan defeated Eastern Fire of Caldonaris 5-3 in a repeat of the copa Dal Havaerne final of 2 years previously. They're club captain, formerly known as Blacksen Domination celebrated his first game after being crowned King of Celeria with a stunning hattrick that defied any attempt by Caldonaris keeper Luc Cole to move in fast enough; all but ensuring that S.C. United and Metropolitan would be the Haven's Enaugural representatives in the multiverse premier league.

S.c. United and Metropolitan General manager Roman Rijic was quick to get his squad training again after a shortened summer break for the red and green army; something that the fans are far more happy than the players to experience. With the King of Celeria away for much of the season however, and serious shortcomings in the centre of defence, Roman Rijic's men and women need to work hard if they are to face the worlds best in the upcoming year.

Club general staff
Chairman: Rhuthien Della Barecci
Rhuthien Della Barecci is the current chairman of S.c. United and Metropolitan. The 20-year old, with an estimated net worth of 980 billion Dral, is the co-chairman of the world-renowned megacorporation, Della Barecci United Conglomerated Holdings corporation. His investment in the club over the past 5 years has equalled almost 700 million Dral, which has gone on to fund the acquisition of new players, the building of a custom-designed stadium on prime commercial land in the midst of the Della Barecci metropolis, and the improvement of the club's training facilities.

Vice-chairman: His royal highness, Roberto, crown Prince of Celeria and duke of Turin
Prince Roberto is a new addition to the U&M general staff, coming in following the accession of his brother and the club's captain, Blacksen, as King of Celeria. His role is mainly concerned with the club's promotion, and improving its image across the multiverse.

General Manager: Roman Rijic
Roman Rijic needs little introduction in the Greater Vakolicci Haven. His abrasive media appearances, his strict management style and his frequent outspoken verbal tyrades against referees have made him a colourful media appearance. A man who urges the U&M support to "Win in the stands if they beat us on the pitch," Roman Rijic was instrumental in the turnover of the Vakolicci ban on firearms within sports stadia, making an appearance at The Fortress something that many home and opposition fans literally never come out alive from.

Assistant Manager: Elicero Nari
A 38-year old tactical genius, Elicero Nari joined U&M only 2 years ago. His insistence on speed is widely acknowledged as being what has turned the team from a well-muscled team reliant on bullying opposition members off of the ball into a tactically-skilled side favouring overpowering, blistering runs into the opponents penalty area.

Stadium
The Fortress:
003, Tyrrhenian drive,
The Della Barecci Metropolis,
Franscia,
The Greater Vakolicci Haven.
Capacity: 249,881

The Fortress is by far the largest sports stadium in the Greater Vakolicci Haven, and is often for this reason chosen as the location for home games of the Vakolicci national team. Completed in 2012, the Fortress includes a whopping 3910 executive suites, and amenities including free food and drink served directly to spectators by slaves, who can be called by push-buttons in the armrests of the thickly padded seats.

Squad
Starting 11 (Average, 2013-14 season)

GK: Mickie Roper, age 38
Mickie Roper has been a mainstay of the U&M side for the past 20 years, and he doesn't look like stopping. His skill in the goal, coupled with his size, have made him an asset to be cherished between the sticks, with the League's best defencive record for the past 2 seasons. Born with a hideous disfigurement, Large chunks of flesh appear to be physically missing from Mickie Roper's cheeks and arms.

LB:Rajid Kahn, age 25
Rajid Kahn, as is the issue with Vakolicci defence on this side of the pitch, has been haunted both by injuries and poor form. Kahn has kept his place in the team simply because his competition has been terrible; he frequently relies on his winger Miralim Tardenic for support.

CB: Lisa Cohr, age 28
Lisa Cohr's injuries have a tendency to correlate with U&M's defenders struggling to gel. As a fast and skilled central defender, she terrorises strikers and with her loud mouth, referees alike.

CB: John Harden, age 24
A newer addition to the U&M starting squad, John Harden's recent good form has kept him in the team despite stiff competition from established regulars. Harden hopes to cement his place in the team by performing in his usual skilful manner against international sides this year.

RB: Geovani Caran, age 21
Despite not securing a place in the Havenic national team, Caran has proved himself to be competent when faced with the prospect of the winger in front of him, King Blacksen of Celeria, running out of sight for long periods of the game.

LW: Miralim Tardenic, age 33
What do you do when you're faced with the prospect of competiting against Blacksen of Celeria for your place in the team? You switch sides, that's what you do. Miralim Tardenic is hoping to prove he still can make magic in both the U&M starting 11 as well as the Havenic national side.
CM: Ruth Bay, age 33

Following on from her sister's tragic death in a motorboat accident the previous year, Ruth bay has put her grief behind her, got off the bench and showed the U&M faithful why they had chosen the wrong sister for far too long.

RW: His Celari Majesty, Blacksen I of the House of Domination, King of Celeria and Grand Duke of Elesca

Blacksen Domination, as he is most often simply known in football, has proved himself as one of the Haven's most talented wingers. His lightening-fast pace, coupled with his imposing stature and excellent leadership ability, have made the King a gamechanger on any pitch. For the 3rd year running, he will be captaining U&M

FW: Henry Liger, age 15
Out of form in recent weeks, Henry Liger has faced challenges from both the bench and the instinct to purchase players currently imbedded in Roman Rijic's mind. The young striker is known to be formidable on the ball, but often lacks the flare in front of goal necisary to competently finish.

FW: Demit Cronan, age 28
Demit Cronan is a fiery figure both on and off the pitch. As U&M's 'enforcer,' he is tasked with ensuring that the opposition fans suffer if the Red and Greens lose, directing a large amount of the crowd to riot in many games. Demit Cronan has also encouraged crowdmembers to pelt opposing players and referees with a hail of missiles from the stands. On the pitch, he is a striker with a cool head, who picks off targets with precision and a delicate flick, mainly reliant on his right leg.

FW:
Melissa Canver, age 28
Widely acknowledged as a late bloomer, Melissa Canver entered the U&M team over 3 years ago but failed to make an impression until last year when she became the team's second-highest goalscorer in the league.

Bench:
GK:
Radolfo Zarc, age 35
Nigel Turner, age 24
Ona Dela Ninara, age 19
Right defenders:
Laurent Carnana, age 10
Gale Faras, age 39
Juraj Sevrasenko, age 37
Eilya Dover, age 24
Central defenders:
Lieu Zhai, age 33
Filippo Rena, age 28
Rala Nez: age 24
Diego Canero: age 29

Sometimes the team also plays 4-4-2, with two wing-backs and two fast strikers. Eriksson is most likely to come on as sub. Kruus is first choice sub for mid. Physically weak players get injured but if it last longer than 7 weeks then tg me first.
Bookmaker Tips:
Zhang scores most goals, but other starting attackers also score. B'Mayak and the wingers assist a lot. Aerial threats score corners. Captain is Mandovic. Freekicks are taken by Charlie Franklin and he is good. Leno takes both corners.

THEREISNOGODISTAN FC MAKES "ADEQUATE" DEBUT IN MULTIVERSE PREMIER LEAGUE
By Malik Qazizadah

THEREISNOGODABAD, FHULGHAMOUS PENINSULA - It would have been too much to expect 5-0 victories or the like from the newly-created team Thereisnogodistan FC, but at least it looks like they've managed to hold their own against some of the best teams in the multiverse, or so it would seem.

Thereisnogodistan's first match was against Ereazor 99, from the Western Borderlands. Richard Dawkins Park was absolutely flooded by fans from the Borderlands, and therefore the Thereisnogodabad city government had to set aside large tracts of grass for "temporary standing areas." Attendance reportedly reached 13,000 and beyond. The game kicked off, and it was soon apparent that Ereazor was the better team on the field. But that fact was understandable when you think that Thereisnogodistan's team is made up of local football enthusiasts living in the area, and therefore hadn't been professionals until now. All four of Ereazor's forwards, and its three midfielders, combined to make Ezekiel Fackler's life very, very miserable, but the thirty-year-old Xemlice Rovers reject managed to hold against the onslaught for the full 90 minutes. That's certain to make folks in Xemlice think twice about their decision to drop him all those years ago.

The first half ended nil-nil, mostly because Fackler has been in the form of his life, and no Thereisnogodistan player managed to really challenge Arlondo Grant. But then, at the very beginning of the second half, fortunes were turned on its head and given a healthy beating. Thereisnogodistan right winger Olen Celis was making a very pacey run towards the Ereazor box with defenders Graden Aflo and Theodore Cardwell hot on his heels. Celis made a last-minute cross towards Hugo Willmore, but the diminutive nineteen-year-old striker wasn't able to jump high enough to clip the ball with his head. However, the ball continued to curve towards the net, and then it went right into the sweet spot in the corner between the post and the bar. Arlondo Grant, who was prepared to save a header, could only watch as the ball went just out of his reach and into the back of the net. The Ereazor counterattack after the Celis goal was furious to say the least, but Thereisnogodistan now appeared properly motivated, and every player on the team combined to prevent an Ereazor comeback, and they managed to do it, thanks to Ezekiel Fackler, his four defenders, and Olen Celis's very lucky goal. With that victory, Thereisnogodistan managed to secure three points from under the noses of what the media pundits consider as one of the best teams in the multiverse.

Thereisnogodistan's second game was against Recreativo Bahia Peñas Blancas, another strong team from the strong sporting nation of San Jose Guayabal. This was Thereisnogodistan's first away game, and the atmosphere in the big Sakhalinsk Stadium was definitely against the visitors. Once again, Thereisnogodistan's inexperience showed, and Peñas Blancas managed to sneak three goals past the harried Ezekiel Fackler within just the first twenty minutes. It appeared that Thereisnogodistan's fight had been taken from all of them. But before the second half, it seemed that Daniel Rhombus gave his troops a rousing speech of some kind, because the Thereisnogodistan team that stepped onto the pitch looked like a Premier League club, the way that they played against Peñas Blancas. Hugo Willmore managed to slot in a goal at the 50th minute, and Olen Celis managed to head in another goal in the 78th minute, but for twelve minutes, Peñas Blancas locked down their defense and parked the bus, and it looked like Thereisnogodistan was walking away from this match with its first loss. But, in the third minute of stoppage time, Tanner Keener went through and managed to salvage a draw in this game with a brilliant volley from beyond the box that the Blancas keeper couldn't reach, even with his freakishly long arms.

Thereisnogodistan FC currently sits in third place in Group B, above Peñas Blancas and below the Santa Barbara Storm. Their next two matches will be up against FC Raedburg from Zitru, and the Santa Barbara Storm from Super-Llamaland. Obviously, everyone hopes that Thereisnogodistan will win both these games, but no one is really subscribing to such illusions.

We need a "mall"

I think Pays d'en Haut needs a place called a "mall". A mall is a place with many shops located whitin this place. Actually we have a few flea markets located sparsely througout Pays d'en Haut. We need a big "mall" where all the shops will be concentrated. And by shops, I mean clothing stores of course, but also any other kind of shops, like a blacksmith shop for my husband or a food market. I suggest we build "malls" in the biggest towns and each malls would have around 25 shops or stores. It seems a lot, but we need to modernize les Pays d'en Haut!

Julie, clan Beaulieu

No more evil machines!

Pays d'en Haut is actually following an evil path. first we build up something called an "airport" for evil machines to land on our soil. Then we buld up a "technology center" and employed geek slaves to compile sports results faster. what's next? An evil talking box called a "television"? We don't need that! I know for sure whoever is watching "television" is going to hell, the bishop in my neighborhood told me so. No more evil "technology"!

Patrice, clan Lafond

We need more offense

Actually I think A.S. Blainville will have a hard time competing in the MPL against other nation's teams. We have a great goalie and good defensive players but we have no offense. Martin, clan Prévost looks good but he's always looking tired in the 2nd half and our other strikers aren't good at all. We need to make a trade with C. S. Terrebonne for Vincent, clan Turcotte or try to find a stiker from abroad!

Rogerton Valladar Club de Fútbol
Multiverse Premier League Season 1 Media Guide
Image

Ownership
The club is owned by seven partners, all of whom sit on the Board of Directors. Chairman Rico Tomàs is the majority owner, with a 52% stake in the club. The remaining six partners are: Linwood Nunes, Lowell Moles, Aimé García, Veríssimo Díaz, Clinton Tuff and Gwilherm William. Each has an eight percent stake in the club. All owners live within the borders of County Rogerton, and all except Tomàs are local businessmen. Tomàs formerly worked at the Darmeni School of Business as Professor of Anthropology, and currently serves as the Curator of the Rogerton Municipal Museum.

Front Office
Because Rogerton Valladar CF is running under a tight budget for its first few seasons, our front office includes only four employees. They are:
  • Cornélio Pavia, President and Chief Executive Officer - Pavia formerly served as the General Manager for several local McRonald's restaurants, all of which are still owned by Nunes. Pavia graduated from Brady City University with a Master's Degree in Business Administration.
  • Inocencio Arechavaleta, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer - Arechavaleta brings several years of experience in the Sports and Entertainment industry to the club. He received his education at the Naval Academy and served for seven years in the Navy before moving to Rogerton to begin his career with the Whitecaps. He served as the Director of Matchday Operations for the Rogerton Whitecaps from their foundation, before being hired by Rogerton Valladar CF to serve as the clubs first Vice President and COO.
  • Viriato Armando, Chief Financial Officer and Club Treasurer - Armando formerly served as Director of Loan Services with the Rogerton Valladar Community Credit Union. He graduated from George State University with two Bachelor's Degrees in Economics and Public Finances.
  • Olimpia Santana, Human Resources and Community Relations Manager - The lone female in the front office, Santana served as the Junior Vice President of Human Resources with Kalenda Oil before joining the club. She graduated from Mt. St. Perry University with a Master's Degree in Human Resources and an Associate's Degree in Public Relations.
Coaching
Rogerton Valladar CF will employ four coaches throughout its inaugural season. They are:
  • Celino Fonseca, Manager - Formerly the Assistant Manager with the Rogerton Whitecaps, this will be Fonseca's first time as a Manager of a club. Fonseca played an important part in the development of Tor Tong Lee into a world class footballer, and also helped coach the Whitecaps to several high placings in the Darmeni Premier League.
  • Alonso Moreno, Assistant Manager - Moreno served as Manager for the Chuckio Tech collegiate team. Chuckio Tech was a consistent top four finisher in the Lyons Conference in the first two seasons of the Darmeni National Collegiate Soccer League. When Chuckio Tech was moved into the Chuckio Premier League, Moreno was successful in keeping the team above last place in the table for both seasons against much stronger opposition.
  • Gustavo del Bosque, Offensive Coach - A recently retired striker who spent his playing days with FFC Bloomfield, del Bosque will be undertaking his first coaching job with our club. del Bosque had one of the most feared left boots in all of the Amateur Leagues, and was recently offered a contract by the relegated Whitecaps. He refused the offer however, so that he could enter the coaching ranks.
  • Haroldo Ortega, Defensive and Goalkeeping Coach - Ortega has been out of coaching now for eight years. He formerly coached local high school teams within the Rogerton School District, winning several local and regional titles. He has come out of retirement for just one season to coach with the club.

Cronan: idiocy will not be compensated
[I]Commander-general Demit Cronan has informed foreign supporters, players and staff that any injuries, deaths and damage will not be compensated by U&M.[/b]

The Fortress is not a place that you go unarmed; this is known from the Metropolis to Caldonaris to Roma to Sondestadt, yet Demit Cronan believes that foreign supporters won't get the hint.
Cronan, 28, has told the Irosii post that 'Idiotic foreigners with misconceptions about their rights are not welcome.' The commander-general has called it 'simply idiotic' to watch a U&M home match without a weapon.
'The fortress seating is designed to be able to rebuilt over and over again for a reason,' Cronan went on. 'It's going to get wripped up. Don't think you're coming with your program and your scarf, especially if you want to beat U&M, if you're not expecting a fight: we certainly are, and I certainly am.' Although despite U&M's 2 defeats in the multiverse premier league, Demit Cronan gave these 'foreign idiots' a 'grace period to get their act together' before allowing his Red and green army to start'tearing the place up.'
Despite calls from Havenssport to ensure that games at the fortress stay clean, U&M have repeatedly told both the media and Havenssport that 'we want no part in their so-called right to life.' It is estimated that 200 people die as a direct result of every single U&M match, mainly of away fans.
Team captain Blacksen Domination told the Post that Celeria will 'not intercede to save anyone.'
