Mantwenic Racing News

Fans gathered around the speedway yesterday to see there national drivers in qualifying and boy did they have a treat. Oliver Krousher, the country favorite qualified second while Matt Hensen qualified thirteenth and Kip Stensen qualified in thirty third. "It looks like they shall get a treat on race day." said prideful driver Oliver Krousher. "It's my job to get them a national winner."

MANTWENIC (BPA) -- The Woods Motorsport stock car team didn't miss a beat in returning from the NSSCRA hiatus. At qualifying for the Mantwenic 500 at Mantwenic National, Chip Woods landed the pole position in the #8 Tesla-Benz. Teammate Cathy Trillium in the #42 qualified seventh.

Coincidentally, Woods and Trillium are also first and seventh in the current driver points standings for the series.

Qualifying times are quite close together, with 28 cars within a half-second of Woods's pole position time. A very tight race is expected. Trillium's crew chief, Martin Stewart, downplayed the impact of the layoff. "It will be a dogfight at first, but over 500 it will settle down. These folks are professionals, and we weren't the only team doing tests during the downtime to stay sharp. As long as nobody gets stupid out there it will be a good race and a safe one."

X Island Inquirer

It was another great qualifying day for the Taeshan Racing Team last night. The series restarted yesterday with Qualifying for the Mantwenic 500 at Mantwenic National Raceway, in Mantwenic. All three Taeshani drivers qualified nicely and showed no signs off falter after the two month break to make way for the Cup of Harmony break. Only 2 weeks stand before the first half of the series is officially over, and the final half of 13 races. Tomorrow is the final race before the first of the two in Taeshan, the Orange Lake 300 at Orange Lakes Speedway's Road Course.

The top qualifier for the Purple Suited Racing team was Colby Andretti in fourth place. The veterean member of the team Andretti has seemed to have gotten better in the past few races, and may be hitting the prime part of his season. Ambrose Douglas will start in the 24th position right in the middle of the pack,as will A.J. Henderson who will start 29th. Hopefully the two will be able to wrok together and get a nice push to the front. With the tracks nice curves hopefully the three will continue their great season. Henderson is only 82 points out of the top position he held earlier this year.

THE ROCKET REPORT

ENGINES ROARING AGAIN

Mantwenic- It seems like an eternity the last time we got to racing. After a long delay which many attribute to the nation’s hosting of the Cup of Harmony, the NSSCRA’s engines have been quiet, at least to the general public. No doubt that during this time, all of the participating teams were hard at work fine-tuning their cars and doing whatever they could to either improve over the second half of the schedule or improve their standing. This was pretty evident in the qualifying times that we saw for the Mantwenic 500. All very good, making us very excited about what this first race after layoff will bring to our fans. Certainly, the NSSCRA hopes that fans did not lose interest over the layoff, but at the same time it feels good to say “I told you so!” to anyone out there who thought that the NSSCRA would not return. Not only is it back, it is recharged and ready for a strong second half. Team Newmanistan is in need of a good string of races as the highest placed Newmanistanian driver in the points right now is Erica Phillips, who is 17th, and trails by 394 points. Now, if there was a Chase format, she would only be 119 points out of 12th, but we don’t do that here. While it is unlikely that a Newmanistanian will make the comeback, our Jenn Murphy sat down with Erica to talk about what the team’s goals are in the second half. (Though yes we realize there are still 17 of 31 races to go).

JM: Good morning from Mantwenic everyone. I’m Jenn Murphy here with the Empire’s most successful stock car driver, Erica Phillips, who is only 17th in the standings as the NSSCRA season’s red flag period is over. Thank you for joining us.

EP: My pleasure.

JM: How does it feel now to know that the layoff is finally over and we are racing once again?

EP: It’s good to be racing again, but we’ve all been working hard, still.

JM: Explain to our viewers what the team has been doing during this time period?

EP: We, like probably everyone involved, have done a lot of testing. We have taken our setup to several Newmanistanian tracks, but have also gone to venues in our countries, renting track time from them and gathering as much information as we could so we would be more prepared for when we go race there for real.

JM: I’m sure that will help, and of course, simply going to those tracks will let you know what to expect when the real race is there.

EP: Yeah it will. This time was just great to test and do work, and I think we made a lot of improvements. As much as we may have done, I can pretty much guarantee you that other countries have done the same thing. We weren’t the only ones testing in other countries. I ran into a driver from another country while in Quakmybush. That just shows that everyone is doing that.

JM: Are the 16 and 39 teams feeling as good about the results of testing too?

EP: I believe so.

JM: It’s pretty unlikely that you will be able to make up the needed to ground to win the title, so what are you aiming for at this point of the season?

EP: Yeah, there will be no title. I think we can run very well but Chip, Jeff, Kristen, A.J. and Calvin should all be strong as well. Maybe if we only had to gain 300 and more on one of them, I’d say we would have a chance, but to have to do it on all of them, I am realistic about it. It’s not going to happen. I think, looking at the points, that 6th or 7th is a good thing to shoot for. I would say top 10, but I’d like to do more then 10th. I’m gonna say 6th or 7th. Maybe a top 5. Otherwise, I’d just like to win a couple races.

JM: You’ve won one already. So you know you can win at this level.

EP: Yeah I have no doubt in my ability to win at this level, but the other 44 drivers in this series are real good too.

JM: You roll off 5th tomorrow. How’s the car?

EP: It’s a good car. We have speed and it handles will. We can win this race.

JM: I hope you do. Thank you for your time.

EP: Thanks Jenn.

Yesterday was the third race in the first Nationstates Stock Car Series year that one of the three Taeshani drivers hoisted the winners trophy for the race up. For the second time this season, A.J. Henderson won a race, this time the Mantwenic 500 at the Mantwenic National Raceway in Mantwenic. This helped him move back up to second place in the point standings, and now only 62 points behind The Babbage Islands Chip Woods, and heading to Taeshan he will look to make many of the points needed up in the next race.

After a nice qualifying effort of 4th on friday, Colby Andretti was able to have another nice performance and come out only down 17 positions in 21st. He is now up to fiftienth in the stadnings, while after a nice performance Ambrose Douglas moved up to 18th in the standings with a 17th place race. Next up is the Orange Lake 300 at the Orange Lake Speedway-Road Course at home in Taeshan so the three Tae's will look to use home fiueld advantage in the next race.

From the Republic of Sibirsky to Byron King and Ed Lorenzo. We think you guys are confused and are looking at the standings upside down. And because of that are intentionally shooting for last place.

MANTWENIC(BPA) -- Chip Woods tried to win from the pole, but it was not to be. Despite leading almost half the race, the Woods Motorsport star from The Babbage Islands settled for a fifth-place run in the Mantwenic 500, but held on to his series point lead.

A.J. Henderson of Taeshan became the first two-time winner of the series, and closed to within 62 points of Woods in the overall standings.

The series now moves to Taeshan and the Orange Lake Road Course, which will suit Woods's teammate Cathy Trillium just fine. She ran 11th in Mantwenic, and remains seventh overall.

Portland leaves Grand Prix team to concentrate on NSSCRA

Folenisa, LIVENTIA and Modna Nord, GRAND ISLAND— Grand Island Racing's Matthew Portland, currently ninth in the overall standings in the NationStates Stock Car Racing Association (NSSCRA), has asked his World Grand Prix Championship (WGPC) team for permission to focus on his stock car career.

Initial reports from Folenisa, Liventia, where InfoInternet Liventia Racing is based, say Portland is unlikely to take the wheel for the team when the WGPC makes the final stop of its season 8 calendar in Fort Boston, Bostopia.

Portland, who is assured of fourth in the WGPC drivers' standings, has informed his team principal Mark Marsh that he wants to focus on his NSSCRA commitment. Marsh has reportedly acceded to the request on the condition that Portland agrees to return for the next WGPC season if the team ask him back.

With Portland now free to concentrate on the NSSCRA and its next race at a road course in Taeshan, where Portland will be one of the favourites to win, many pundits are expecting him to really up his game.

The team have also confirmed that its reserve driver, Johnny Webb, who was to have deputised for Portland if not for the mid-season break in the NSSCRA, had been released from his contract.

Well it seems home track advantage works in racing as it does in many other sports. A.J. Henderson, Colby Andretti and Ambrose Douglas were all treated like gods upon there return to Taeshan this weekend for the Orange Lake 300 at Orange Lake Speedways Road Course. They all three qualified like gods as well, theyt will all start tomorrows race in the top 15 positions, by far their greatest qualifying effort to date. Hopefully they can race as well for their home fans and continue to have great seasons in the Nationstates Stock Car series.

Henderson will get to start on the pole in the first of two home races. Standing only 62 points behind the leader Chip Woods of the Babbage Islands in points Henderson will look to use home track to his advantage and get a lot of them back. Ambrose Douglas will start in the middle of the other two purple clad drivers in 7th, while Colby Andretti will bring up the rear of the Taeshanis in 13th. with all of them so close it will be interesting to see if they can work together at home and get a win for their fans.

TAESHAN (BPA) -- Cathy Trillium is optimistic about her chances in today's Orange Lake 300. She will start from the inside of the third row, two rows behind hometown favorite A.J. Henderson and two rows ahead of Woods Motorsport teammate Chip Woods.

"I like this course," she said. "It's in very good shape, with a fair range of challenges. Martin (Stewart, Trillium's crew chief) and the crew have really got the setup on target for this race, and I like our chances."

Trillium is in seventh in the NSSCRA points standings. Teammate Woods is the overall points leader. But Woods only has a 62 point lead over the pole-sitter Henderson, who is coming off his second series win last race in Mantwenic.

BACK IN THE DRIVERS SEAT

It’s great to go racing once again. The NSSCRA has resumed after the organizers put the series on hold so they could play their soccer and then every so subtly, held it off a few more days to the conclusion of their run in the World Baseball Classic as well. Don’t think we didn’t notice that, Rocketmen! The engines are revving again, and Taeshan’s A.J. Henderson was the big winner in the return of the series, which was in Mantwenic last week but the driver who finished second is the one we want to talk about because that was our very own Matthew Schaefer. Matt led 61 laps of the race before Henderson got by him with 13 laps to go. “A.J. was a lot faster then me there at the end. Once he passed me, I couldn’t do anything about it and he really pulled away. I saw Erica there wanting to take second from me and I knew there was no way I was going to let her pass me.” Said Schaefer, who has one win so far this year. Eric Murphy finished 18th, two spots ahead of rival Jason Antilles of Jeffgordonville. The two battled for 19th with 28 laps to go, and a nudge by Murphy to move Antilles out of the way got many Mantwenicans (sp?) out of their seats as they knew their history. Chris Sullivan was a lap back in 28th. Schaefer is 6th in the points, trailing first place Chip Woods of The Babbage Islands by 204 points.

Schaefer then put forth an outstanding qualifying time for the Orange Lake 300, placing 18th on the grid. Since road course are not his strength and he dislikes them, this was a very satisfying performance. The team must feel as though they can be rather competitive, and if they can finish around the top 15, it will be a great day. After this race, the next six will be ovals, and it should shake up the points a bit, with us benefitting. The next race is in Newmanistan, and then the series returns to Secristan for the Loophole Life Insurance 500 at Lakeland Speedway!
WINNER of the 1st International Basketball Championships, 7th Di Bradini Cup, & the 4th World Lacrosse Championships!
RUNNERUP in Baptism of Fire 30 and World Baseball Classic 10.
HOST of World Bowl 6, International Basketball Championships 6, and Baptism of Iron 6. (Hosting a 6th version of something? Call us.) Also, World Baseball Classic 12 and World Lacrosse Championships 3.
Qualified for World Cups 49-52.

All arrogant, stuck-up, conceded or whatever comments I make in roleplay are always in-character and should not be interpreted as also being the out-of-character attitude of the person controlling the nation. My nation is my attempt to mock people I have to deal with often at work.

With one race before the second half Taeshani driver A.J. Henderson madeup about half of the gap between himself and the Nationstates Stock Car Series Leader Chip Woods, at home at the Orange Lake Speedways, Road Course. Henderson won the pole, and was in the top 5 all day ultimately finishing in fourth position. Woods did not have as good of a day and fell about halfway back to Henderson in second. Ambrose Douglas also got a top ten for Taeshan in tneth, while Colby Andretti fell back into the pack and finished in 27th.

TAESHAN (BPA) -- Cathy Trillium of The Babbage Islands broke through for her first win in the NSSCRA stock car series by capturing the Orange Lake 300. The #42 car finished nearly five seconds ahead of second-place Kristen Hopkins of Cassadaigua.

Trillium started in the third row, and steadily moved up the ranks until taking the lead for good with about 75 miles to go. The victory moved her up two spots in the overall driver points, from seventh place to fifth.

Her teammate, Chip Woods, overcame early difficulties with tires to finish 12th, good enough to retain his series points lead. However, A.J. Henderson of Taeshan and Cassadaigua's Hopkins both gained ground, and the top three places now stand just 36 points apart.

The series now moves to Pocono City. Newmanistan, for the Empire Motors 500 to conclude the first half of the season.

It was a pretty solid qualification day for the three Taeshani drivers for tomorrows final first half race, the Empire Motores 500 at Pocono City Raceway. Ambrose Douglas had one of his best qualifying days this season and will start 4th. A.J. Henderson and Colby Andretti did not have as good days and both will be starting in the middle of the pack. Henderson will start 34th and Andretti will be starting in 29th. Most likely they will not finish in so bad of a position, and will have a better race then qualifying day.

Well it was a nice end to the first half of the Nationstates Stock Car Series. Even though most of the second half was postponed due to Soccer, it still feels lika a chapter in the season is over. A look back at the season so far shows us that the Taeshani side has been very competitive, more so then many though. A.J. Henderson sits only 26 points out of the Standings lead after a subpar performance finishing 23rd in last nights race. Ambrose Douglas drove above par and finished 8th in the race. Finally Colby Andretti finished 29th in the race, but due to many lower teams having good days and good teams having bad, all three Purple and Gold drivers sit in the top 20 afte rthe first 19 races. We hope they do as well in the second half.

POCONO CITY, Newmanistan (BPA) -- Apparently the Woods Motorsport team from The Babbage Islands did a little too much celebrating after Cathy Trillium's win. Or maybe Chip Woods had another date with another mystery blonde.

In any case, the Babbagians were somewhat off form in the Empire City 500, with Trillium a full lap back in 31st place and Woods nearly a lap down in 24th.

However, Woods still sits atop the overall points standings at the end of the first half, although the gap between the first three remains razor-thin. Trillium slipped one position from fifth to sixth overall, but seems to be establishing her credibility as more than a road course specialist.

Other teams to watch in the second half include Taeshan (with two-time winner A.J. Henderson), Cassadaigua (with second-place Kirsten Hopkins), Jeffgordonville (two top 10 drivers), and Ad'ihan (also two top 10 drivers). The Babbage team, fielding only two drivers and not three, is not in contention for the team championship.
