The Cenian National Tennis Association (CNTA) would like to welcome over 200 singles competitors and 60 doubles teams to the National Racquet Club in Cenial, Ceni, for the Cenian Open, the last Grand Slam tournament of the year. 4 stadium courts and 20 other courts will play host to both qualification and main draw matches. Ceni is one of the most involved nations in tennis and competitors can expect a large attendance for matches.

Scorination Details
Scorination will use xkoranate 0.3.3. All doubles matches will be best of three sets, with ad and a deciding set. Singles qualification matches will be best of three sets and singles main draw matches will be best of five sets. RP bonus will be set to be 40% of the scorination value. For qualification, RP bonus will be set to 50% of scorination value, so RPing will be very important throughout this tournament. RP will be cumulative and include bonuses earned during qualifying. Cutoff will be between 4:00 and 6:00 US Central Time unless otherwise stated.

Schedule
Thursday, November 13 - Qualification Day 1
Friday, November 14 - Qualification Day 2
Saturday, November 15 - Qualification Day 3
Sunday, November 16 - Qualification Playoffs (if necessary); first round of singles, Sections 1-4
Monday, November 17 - Singles first round, Sections 5-8; doubles first round, sections 1-2
Tuesday, November 18 - Singles second round; doubles first round, sections 3-4
Wednesday, November 19 - Singles third round; doubles second round
Thursday, November 20 - Singles fourth round; doubles third round
Friday, November 21 - Singles/doubles quarterfinals
Saturday, November 22 - Singles/doubles semifinals
Sunday, November 23 - Singles/doubles finals

RPing Information
Roleplaying will be very important in this tournament. Whether a news report about your players' matches, a novel, or a simple poem, writing RPs puts you bounds and leaps above your competition. However, RPing doesn't guarantee that your players will win - it only increases their chances, so don't be surprised if your players lose.

Postby The Andromeda Islands » Wed Nov 12, 2014 10:47 pm

Name: Yelena Kazakova
Age: 30
Home Town: Andromeda City
Singles Rank: #1
Doubles Rank: #1 w/Louis Rich

Perhaps the best player in the Triphorian Region, Yelena Kazakova continued her dominance over Andromeda Tennis once the Men’s and Women’s Divisions were combined in January, winning four of the five major tournaments on the Andromedan Tour.

Kazakova, with doubles partner Louis Rich, has also made all five finals in the Andromedan Doubles Tour, winning in Portsmouth, Joppa & the National Championship in Andromeda City.

Kazakova had a 101 game winning streak until her loss in the Joppa Open to John Galt. She is also the only person on the Andromeda Tour history to have gone undefeated for three whole seasons.

Name: John Galt
Age: 32
Home Town: Joppa
Singles Rank: #2
Doubles Rank: #3 w/Dong Si Yuan

The most dominant male tennis player in the Archipelago, many assumed that John Galt would continue his winning ways once the Men’s and Women’s Divisions were combined in January. Instead, he has lost 4 of the 5 Andromeda tour finals to Yelena Kazakova.

Galt, with doubles partner Dong Si Yuan, made the finals of the National Championship in Andromeda City, losing to Kazakova and Louis Rich. After only a year together, Galt and Dong rose to #3 in Andromedan doubles.

Galt had a 30 match winning streak until his first loss to Kazakova in the Portsmouth Open in March. Galt plans to retire at the end of next year in order to focus on a career in national politics.

Name: Bryce Lord
Age: 22
Home Town: Nassau
Singles Rank: #3
Doubles Rank: #4 w/Violet Green

The 2027 collegiate National Champion, Bryce Lord, turned pro the following spring. He had risen to #2 in Men’s Singles before their men’s and women’s tour were combined. Lord has made the finals of the Nassau Open in each of the past three years, winning the Nassau Open in 2028.

Lord, with doubles partner Violet Green, has made the semifinals of the last two National Championships in Andromeda City. Lord and Green are among the top four doubles teams in the Allied States.

Lord is also a senior at the University of Nassau. He’s expected to graduate with a degree in business administration in December. He is also a special consultant to the University of Nassau Tennis Team.

Name: Louis Rich III
Age: 22
Home Town: Todd’s Cove
Singles Rank: #4
Doubles Rank: #1 w/Yelena Kazakova

The eldest son of the Governor of Todd’s Cove, Louis Rich has been a celebrity in his own right since winning the collegiate national tennis championship in 2028. He has since risen to #4 in the Andromedan Tour in singles competition, making the semi-finals in four of his last five tournaments.

Rich, with doubles partner Yelena Kazakova, has also made all five finals in the Andromedan Doubles Tour in 2030, winning in Portsmouth, Joppa & the National Championship in Andromeda City.

Rich graduated from the University of Todd’s Cove last summer, earning a degree in physical education. His father, Louis “Junior” Rich, is one of the first players to play on the Todd’s Cove Clippers Basketball Team.

Name: Violet Green
Age: 25
Home Town: Joppa
Singles Rank: #5
Doubles Rank: #4 w/Bryce Lord

A consistent top five tennis player on the Andromeda Tour, Violet Green won the 2025 Women’s National Championship in Andromeda City, upsetting Yelena Kazakova in a three set thriller. Green is the only woman to have beaten Kazakova in a tennis match in the last six years.

Green, with doubles partner Bryce Lord, has made the semifinals of the last two National Championships in Andromeda City. Green and Lord are among the top four doubles teams in the Allied States.

A graduate of the University of Joppa’s Theatre program, Green is also an actress and swimsuit model. She has graced the covers of Men’s Magazines throughout the region. She is also an amateur photographer.

The runner-up in the 2027 Miss Andromeda Pageant, Margarita Cho was already well-known when she made the semifinals of the Joppa Open last May. Cho lost in straight sets to John Galt. Cho, the 2029 Andromeda collegiate national champion, just finished her first full professional season.

Name: Riley Escobar
Age: 24
Home Town: Portsmouth
Singles Rank: #8

Having begun his tennis career in the Andromeda Navy’s Special Services, Riley Escobar has shocked the Andromeda Tennis world with his unorthodox style on the court. Escobar has a devoted following among many working class Andromedans who don’t normally follow tennis.

A troubled youth, Escobar was sentenced to the Andromeda Navy’s Secondary Education Program in 2020. He graduated from the ANSEP in 2025. He retired from the Andromeda Navy with the rank of sergeant in 2028.

Home Town: Koni
Singles Rank: #9; #1 under 21

Having been the #1 tennis player in the Teardrop Islands, Carmen Doyle joined the Andromeda Tour within days of Koni being added to the Allied States on January 1st. She immediately made an impact, rising to become the second highest ranked player under 21 in the Allied States.

Despite being born in Koni, Doyle was already a citizen of the Andromeda Islands, through her father’s citizenship. Her aunt, Melvina Doyle, is married to Leonard Lawrence, the current Vice President of the Allied States.

Name: Judah Smith
Age: 20
Home Town: St. Paul
Singles Rank: #11; #2 under 21
Doubles Rank: #11 w/Mark Driscoll, #2 under 21

St. Paul State has perhaps the most well-developed tennis program among any of the Allied States. Judah Smith won the inaugural St. Paul Open last year. Smith has made the quarterfinals in three of the five Andromeda Tour Tournaments this past year.

Smith, with doubles partner Mark Driscoll, also won the St. Paul Doubles Tournament last year. The Smith/Driscoll duo is more famous for their arguments with referees than they are for their actual tennis ability.

Judah Smith is a sophomore at the University of St. Paul. Smith’s ancestors were some of the first Mormon Missionaries to arrive in the Andromeda Archipelago. He plans to serve as a Mormon Missionary next year.

Name: David Cho
Age: 17
Home Town: Nassau
Singles Rank: #13; #3 under 21
Doubles Rank: #5 w/Esperanza Cho, #1 under 21

A product of two of the Archipelago’s most prominent tennis families, David Thomas Cho has exceeded expectations, compiling a winning record in his first year as a professional and reaching the quarterfinals of the Joppa Open. He lost to defending Joppa Open Champion John Galt in four sets.

David Cho, along with his cousin, Esperanza, made the semi-finals of both the Joppa Open and the Todd’s Cove Classic, making them the youngest players to advance to the semi-finals in Todd’s Cove.

Cho is currently a senior at Nassau’s Bryce Thomas Memorial High School, named for his great-grandfather, one of the founding fathers of the Allied States. Cho plans to attend the University of Joppa next year.

Postby Ctulhtii » Thu Nov 13, 2014 9:09 am

For the first time in history, Ctulhti players are taking part in an international tournament in Cenian Open. The Tennis Federation of the Federation of Ctulhtii (GTGC) got the funding together and has sent the following nine players to contest in Ceni.

Ctulhtii ranking singles: 1; doubles: 1 | Plays: Right-handed (two-handed backhand)

Gtay Cherheni is the number 1 ranked player in Ctulhtii at the moment. Two-time winner of the Ctulhtii Tennis Championship is very quick around the court and serves fast. Real threat to any opponent and upon his shoulders lie the biggest Ctulhti hopes in this tournament.
An excellent doubles player, he also takes part in the doubles tournament with Adoy Gharhei.

Mtyth Okmath

Ctulhtii ranking singles: 2; doubles: 19 | Plays: Right-handed (two-handed backhand)

Mtyth Okmath, also a two-time winner of the Ctulhtii Tennis Championship, is currently lying second in the Ctulhti rankings. Very strong player, Okmath's game relies heavily on his serve which probably isn't in the same shape as it used to be a few years ago. Yet he's an excellent player capable of anything on a good day.

Adoy Gharhei
Age: 23 | Height: 179cm | Homeplace: Thizthei | Club: TTT
Ctulhtii ranking singles: 3; doubles: 1 | Plays: Right-handed (one-handed backhand)

Adoy Gharhei is the number 3 ranked player in Ctulhtii and a good friend and practice partner of Ctulhti #1 Gtay Cherheni. Not the strongest nor biggest player Gharhei makes up he's relative lack of strength with his agility, quickness and great net-play.
Gharhei is also ranked number 1 in Ctulhti doubles rankings with Gtay Cherheni, with whom he'll also take part in the doubles competition.

Mugoli Adsuuw
Age: 24 | Height: 193cm | Homeplace: Lweht | Club: Mwarabry TT
Ctulhtii ranking singles: 7; doubles: N/A | Plays: Left-handed (two-handed backhand)

Mugoli Adsuuw, ranked 7 in Ctulhtii rankings, was a surprise winner of the GTGC qualifying tournament for the Cenian Open. Born and raised in a poor family in poor neighborhoods of the capital of the Province odf Mwarabra, Lweht, Adsuuw has never had the best training conditions. Yet he has made it to the qualifying stages of a grand slam tournament. A strong and big player with huge potential.

Ccari Cherhla
Age: 19 | Height: 180cm | Homeplace: Thizthei | Club: TTT
Ctulhtii ranking singles: 12; doubles: 7 | Plays: Right-handed (one-handed backhand)

Ccari Cherhla is the probably the most promising junior Ctulhti tennis has ever seen. National champion in every junior age group, Cherhla has recently stepped in to the main ranks and already made his mark by climbing rapidly to number 12 in the Ctulhtii rankings.
Even more rapid has been his rise to seventh in the doubles rankings with his partner Czoth Cterlai.

Ccyth Ccarlat
Age: 27 | Height: 174cm | Homeplace: Dolthei | Club: DDTB
Ctulhtii ranking singles: 6; doubles: 3 | Plays: Right-handed (two-handed backhand)

Ccyth Ccarlat is the best known doubles player in Ctulhtii. Five-time winner of the Ctulhtii Tennis Championships doubles tournament, Ccarlat recently had to find a new partner following the retirement of his long time partner Gtay Ccerhani (not to be confused with Gtay Cherheni) and is currently playing with the promising youngster Myth Gterhei.
Ccarlat is also a decent singles player and is taking part in the regional qualifiers in Ceni.

Chun Gergtai
Age: 36 | Height: 178cm | Homeplace: Hkakaz | Club: CzoH-Tennis
Ctulhtii ranking singles: 14; doubles: N/A | Plays: Left-handed (two-handed backhand)

Chun Gergtai is the most succesful tennis player of the recent years in Ctulhtii. 7-time Ctulhtii Tennis Champion has been around a long time and although he isn't in the form he used to be, is capable of causing an upset or two on a good day. For the Cenian Open Gergtai received a wild card from GTGC.

Myth Gterhei
Age: 21 | Height: 181cm | Homeplace: Dolthei | Club: DDTB
Ctulhtii ranking singles: 28; doubles: 3 | Plays: Right-handed (two-handed backhand)

Myth Gterhei is a skilled Doltheian youngster who is primarily concentrating on doubles game. After a very succesful junior career he got an amazing offer to partner "Ctulhti doubles legend" Ccyth Ccarlat and has shown improvement from tournament to tournament, earning him the fourth position in Ctulhtii doubles rankings.

Czoth Cterlai
Age: 20 | Height: 183cm | Homeplace: Thizthei | Club: TTT
Ctulhtii ranking singles: 29; doubles: 9 | Plays: Left-handed (one-handed backhand)

Czoth Cterlai will be partnering wonderkid Ccari Cherhla in the doubles competition in Cenian Open. A decent player, Cterlai has made steady progression into the top-30 in singles and top-10 in doubles rankings. The two certainly have potential to reach the top of the game but how will taking part in singles competition affect Cherhla's performances with Cterlai? Nevertheless this pair is one to watch - in the future at least!

Postby Val Halla » Thu Nov 13, 2014 12:33 pm

With recent injection of government funding, including a massive training center built in the city of Heaverdale, Val Halla is taking part in it's first international tennis tournament, The Cenian Open. The people of Val Halla are very passionate about tennis, clear by the votes that were received of what sport should be invested in.

Name: Joric Novikov
Age: 23
Height: 5 foot 7 inches
Weight: 165 lbs
Hometown: Almari

Joric Novikov is a national sporting hero. Leading the campaign to invest in tennis, he became renowned after winning the Val Hallan Tennis Nationals for 3 years running. Notoriously fleet footed, he was the first man to be put on Val Halla's tennis line-up, and the only one to take part in both the singles and doubles tournament, and the nations main hope for success lies on his shoulders.

Name: Sven Anders
Age: 37
Height: 5 foot 9 inches
Weight: 174 lbs
Hometown: Port Calrad

Sven Anders is a very interesting character. His first ambition was not tennis. Instead, he spent most of his young adulthood on a motocross bike, narrowly missing out on the X-Games several times. Frustrated local fisherman were often reporting Anders jumping of crates and occasionally dumping his bike in the water. Now, he is one of Val Halla's most popular men, being distinguishable by his oriental tattoos on both arms that he covers with bandages whilst playing tennis. He has an enormously powerful swing earned in his FMX days.

Name: Astrid Novikov
Age: 27
Height: 5 foot 5 inches
Weight: 135 lbs
Hometown: Almari

The less notorious sister of Joric Novikov, one would easily think that her position was due to her brother's significant talent. Those who would think that would be quickly converted however, because she oozes talent almost as much as Joric. Whilst not a national champion like Joric, she has got a reputation for putting absolutely everything into her matches, which has sometimes been her own downfall. She missed much of last year due to a hyper-extended shoulder but has made a very powerful recovery.

Name: Gerdur Ivath
Age: 22
Height: 5 foot 2 inches
Weight: 125 lbs
Hometown: Frostvale

Gerdur Ivath was a young prodigy. First winning her first national U-21 tournament at just 14 years of age, she has become known as a very renowned proffesional, with her strong lower body strength making her a very good jumper. Whilst The Cenian Open is going to be her first time competing at a full age level, she is not expected to simply fall out of the competition. Her endurance is also excellent, having done all her training in her home city of Frostvale, the capital city of Val Halla and notoriously cold, so much so, that it is were all the winter sports headquaters are.

Name: Gunther Anderson
Age: 17
Height: 6 foot 3 inches
Weight: 201 lbs
Hometown: Sacaría

Hailing from the beautiful and historic city of Sacaría, Gunther Anderson is a very large boy. 6 inches taller than the national average height, Anderson is one of the nations tallest athletes. Do not be mistaken, however, that he is a cumbersome oath. Educated at the nations highest rated school, Anderson has a tactical knowledge that is far above the average athlete, and is on par with the managers for pure tactical genius. He has the ability to make decisions at incomprehensibly quick speeds, he is a force to be taken with utmost caution.

Name: Astrid Cambar
Age: 15
Height: 5 foot
Weight: 99 lbs
Hometown: Veshiale

Astrid Cambar is not as well known an athlete as her compatriots that are also taking part in the competition. She does not have the pure success of Joric Novikov, the outrageous personality of Sven Anders or the pure size of Gunther Anderson. She was brought up in the small, largely unknown town of Veshiale. However, talent scouts have picked up on her sublime all-round ability. She may not be well known now, but the coaches have a very large amount of faith in the young woman.

Name: Isahiah Talis
Age: 23
Height: 5 foot 6 inches
Weight: 188 lbs
Hometown: Elzam

Isahiah has a great honour being chosen as partner for Joric Novikov. After his normal partner was injured in a jet ski accident, Talis was left largely out of contention as a competitor. However, his great teamwork with his normal partner made him a prime candidate to partner Novikov. He is the ideal contrast for Joric, with his tremendous strength going hand-in-hand with Novikov.

Name: Olivar Hakinen
Age: 24
Height: 5 foot 10 inches
Weight: 167 lbs
Hometown: Rangrak

Olivar is a long time childhood friend of his partner, Zachary Pederson, and it clearly shows from the way they act and the way they play together. Hakinen never hit his stride as a singles competitor, but his remarkable communication abiltities are unmatched by most of the world's athletes. A very vocal and strict man, he is also the coach of Val Halla's youth team.

Name: Zachary Pederson
Age: 25
Height; 5 foot 8 inches
Weight: 149 lbs
Hometown: Rangrak

Zachary Pederson is quite the looker and the PR management know it. A regular cover man on the sports magazines, he is everything a team could hope for. His silver tongue and handsome appearance are not all he has going for him. When it comes to sports, he is the jack of all trades. His pure talent is unmatched by both, and when paired up with Hakinen, he is a force to be reckoned with.

Not only is the team backed up with enormous talent, they have great support of the court as well.

Name: Andrei Rolf
Age: 42
Hometown: Heaverdale
Role: Singles, Doubles and U-21 coach

Andrei is a very great man. His leadership abilities and tactical expertise makes everything seem hopeful for the team. His moral boasting abilities have made him a renowned coach internationally and he was said to be "ecstatic" to be coaching his national team

Name: Roughton Leviathan
Age: 29
Hometown: Frostvale
Role: Administrator of Sports Finance

Roughton became a very popular man when he went to the government suggesting a sport to invest him, leading him to promptly receive this newly instituted role. He is said to be an avid tennis fan himself, and is in attendance along with his family

Name: Yoseph Fergus
Age: 28
Hometown: Hrus
Role: Team PR Manager

Yoseph is a man who really knows about public relations. A host of many of Val Halla's most popular TV shows and PR manager of one of the nation's most popular bands, The Catalysts, he is most often seen in the company of Zachary Pederson, for good reason.

Tennis Match
I hear the uh, the moan, and the groan
I hear the ball bouncing on court
I hear the screams of the fans
and a pin drop when the favored man loses a rally

I see the players moving around on the court,
I see the ball bouncing up and down,
I see the swish of the racquets

I smell the hot dogs for sale
I taste the buttery taste of popcorn
I feel the tension in the air
when a tennis match goes on

Albundanian Tennis Briefs

Tayler Labeau sits in first place in her group after the first match-day, having made surprisingly quick work out of Yelena Kazakova, disposing of her in straight sets making for an exciting start for 19 year old at this tournament, following a strong performance at the Santa Maria Open.

In group 2, Olivier Mosconi took 256th ranked Jamil Khan to three sets, ultimately losing the third set. Mosconi recently won the unranked Albundanian Invitational in Hauteville, and the 17 year old has plenty of time to improve his game and maybe even advance out of the group.

Group 5 featured Valeria Rome, the 25 year old veteran (by Albundanian standards). She, however, is also having a rocky start, having dropped straight sets to unranked Estenian Michael Yarborough, and Rome now occupies the bottom slot in the group. Rome also bowed out in the Round of 32 in the Albundanian Invitational, her worst finish in an Albundanian tournament since 1987.

Albundanian Invitational winner Madison Neroni is also on the long list of Albundanian's having a rough adjustment period to the international game. She, like many of her blue colleagues, dropped straight sets to her opponent, unranked Louis Rich. Of course, there are more matches left to be played, so she could yet rebound and make a deep run into the tournament here.

Group 12 saw Vinicio Vestri take unranked Patistani Sofia Khan to three sets, featuring Vestri having a 3 game lead early into the third set before faltering and ultimately losing the final set six games to four. Vestri is, of course, looking to retire soon, and one has to wonder if more poor performances like that won't make him hasten his decision to call it quits.

Group 14 saw another Albundania-Patistan matchup, with Kat Valenti of Epagne going up against 276th ranked Aqeel Khan. It was a remarkably even contest despite being decided in straight sets, featuring a nail-biting tie-breaker in the first set that saw Valenti accidentally nail a camera with a poorly placed return late into it. Valenti will surely feel that she can come back to win her other two matches after a strong performance in the first match.

Gabriela Yount in Group 17 was the biggest choker of the day for the Blue contingent in Cena. She put together an excellent first match against Adoy Gharhei, hailing from the land of Ctulhti. Adoy rallied brilliantly though, winning twelve straight games after Yount took the first game of the second set. If Gabby can recreate that first set form again for the next match she could drive deep in to the tournament.

Warrick Royle of all people was one of the few Albundanians to actually win today, even if it did take him an extended third set against Estenian Harry Weeks. It was a very even and entertaining match, Royle sprinting a frankly ludicrous amount for most of his points. We shall see if this match tires him out for the next one, but as it stands Royle is second in his group only behind 276th ranked Luis Farias.

Highlights from other parts of the Cenian open featured Renata Baker wining her first international match in the U-21 playoffs, taking straight sets against Piale Normandie in group 1. Karin Beattie also got a win in her first international match, beating unranked Estenian Gavin Prescott in three sets to claim second place in the group early on.

Electrum Lawn Tennis Association - News

Draw released as all 9 Electrumite players make a return

The Electrum Lawn Tennis Association is proud to give you coverage of the second grand slam of this year, the Cenian Open held in the National Racquet Club in Cenial. The singles draw has seven of the nine Electrumite players, with the only seed, 28th seed Greg Meares going up against Super Llamaland's Mark Markos. He's expected to have a good run all the way to the fourth round where he has a chance of meeting the top seed in the group, Brett Roley. Sources say that this is his best chance yet in reaching past the round of 16, which has been elusive thusfar in the ATP competitions.

Meanwhile, Maya Cassington and Samuel Gates find themselves in the very same section facing against Britonisean counterparts. Should these two win, then we will see an all-Electrum face off which will serve to be interesting. That is a very rare occurrence but is just one of the things to look out for whilst watching the matches in Cenial. Mia Cassington has to defeat home player Andy Amada, an inexperienced rookie new to the ATP scene while Sonya Gredello, in an effort to reach the top spot in the Electrumite rankings has a tough opponent in Reagan Harris. It's been yet another unfavourable draw for her, as she struggles to defeat the top seeded players. Deanne Smith and Malcolm Press will be facing an unknown-as-of-yet qualifer and a wildcard respectively.

However, as you all know, the Electrumites are better known for their doubles tennis, and are proud of the heritage in this oft-forgotten part of tennis but it's been a chaotic draw after all four pairs that signed up were all drawn into the same section. It's going to be hectic tennis as the four of them attempt to defeat each other to get that one spot into the semifinals, and the victor of the section. The Gredello and Levinsky pair are safely tucked in their half of the draw, whilst if Gates/Meares and Levitt/Smith win their respective matches, they face each other off in the second round. Potentially in the third round, the winner of that matchup would then face the Cassington sisters.

Just who will come out victorious in Section 3? Gredello and Levinsky are hot favourites, eager to reach the finals after their gold medal winning victory in the Olympics to once again face their arch nemesis, the Xal sisters of Ceni who crashed out in the earlier rounds of the Olympics. Samuel Gates and Greg Meares, who are renowned for their particularly strong serving ability thrown into the mix could easily defeat Joan Levitt and Deanne Smith's trick shots. Then you have the Cassington sisters who almost have a sixth sense in positioning and knowing where the other sister is at all times. It's going to absolutely be a great draw, and who knows? Maybe a wild card or a qualifier might just overcome the eight from Electrum.

Qualifications are in progress, but with the tournament proper starting in three days time now hasn't been a better time to get a Network ENN subscription so you could watch the tennis action live in Cenial every day of the tournament.

SPECIAL CENIAN OPEN COVERAGE

Postby The Andromeda Islands » Thu Nov 13, 2014 11:52 pm

ANDROMEDA NEWS NETWORK
THE SPORTS HOUR
Cenian Open Coverage
Qualification Week
Day 1

ANN Sports Correspondent David Bishop reports live from National Racquet Club in Cenial, Ceni.

BISHOP: In the Andromeda Islands, Yelena Kazakova and Violet are among the top five tennis players in the country. As the Andromeda Islands’ top tennis players emerge onto the international tennis scene, these big fish found themselves foundering in an ocean of talented tennis players who could care less. Both lost their opening matches in qualification this morning

Footage of Kazakova’s match, which began early that morning, showed a tentative Kazakova and a confident opponent

BISHOP: 19-year-old Tayler Labeau of Albundania, like most tennis players outside of the Andromeda Islands, had no idea who Yelena Kazakova was. She simply served her way to a 7-5, 6-2 win over Andromeda’s top player. Kazakova talked with us after the match.

Cut to Kazakova.

KAZAKOVA: I could make a lot of excuses. I was overconfident. I was still suffering from jet lag. The surface was different from what we’re used to. But Labeau is a good player, and I congratulate her. It was a good game.

Cut to Bishop.

BISHOP: Violet Green also lost her match in the deciding set. Judging from the results this morning, things looked grim for Andromeda Tennis. But as the day progressed, the Kazakova loss served as a wakeup call for other Andromedans in qualification. Here are some other scores from qualification:

MAIN QUALIFICATION

Tayler Labeau (ALB) 7-5, 6-2 Yelena Kazakova
Fahad Landana (PAT) 1-6, 6-4, 8-6 Violet Green
Bryce Lord 6-3, 6-3 Joanna Cosby (USD)
Louis Rich 6-3, 6-2 Madison Neroni (ALB)
Kim Lawson (EJM) 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 Dong Si Yuan
Marguerita Cho 7-5, 6-4 Shaheer Shazib (PAT)
Riley Escobar 6-2, 6-2 Brandon Yon (USD)
John Galt 6-4, 6-3 Mark Williams (EST)

BISHOP: The Andromedans in Ceni rebounded nicely, winning all but one of their afternoon and evening matches. Perhaps the most inspiring story came after the youth qualification match between Andromeda’s own Esperanza Cho and Sharon Milliner of Elejium After losing the second set 3-6, Esperanza Cho’s chances at winning the match looked grim.

Cut to an interview with Esperanza Cho after her match.

BISHOP: The contrast between your play at the end of the 2nd set and the start of the third set was startling. What lit that spark for you in the third?

ESPERANZA CHO: Believe it or not, I looked up at the start of the third and saw that some of my teammates were sitting in the stands. Dave Cho had finished his match earlier and had come with a few of our teammates. Even John Galt came to watch, and he has a match later.

BISHOP: And that was enough to turn the tide for you?

ESPERANZA CHO: It was, Dave. Sometimes, when you’re out on the court, it’s like you’re all alone against your opponent. You know? I felt alone. Then I saw Dave, Carmen and Judah in the stands. By the time the match was over, most of the Andromeda players were in the stands, cheering me on.

BISHOP: So, when the small pond becomes an ocean, the fish from Andromeda swim in a school.

Esperanza Cho appears confused for a moment.

ESPERANZA CHO: Exactly!

BISHOP: With Esperanza Cho, this is Dave Bishop from the Cenian Open. We close out this segment with other scores from Youth Qualification.

UNDER-21 QUALIFICATION

Judah Smith 6-1, 6-1 Bob Benosha (NUD)
Carmen Doyle 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 Alicia va Darling (SUM)
David Cho 6-2, 6-4 Bill Sutton (EJM)
Esperanza Cho 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 Sharon Milliner (EJM)

Strong start for Val Halla.

Val Halla's nationals had a very strong and encouraging start to the Cenian Open.

Most notable was the astounding victory for U-21 player Astrid Cambar, who achieved a debut victory over Patistan's Akhtar Khan. It was also a good day for Sven Anders, who really hit his stride against Scarlett Tete. There were also victories Gerdur Ivath and Joric Novikov, leading for some very happy faces at the live showings at the team's headquarters in Heaverdale.

It was not as good a day for all members, however, as Astrid Novikov and Gunther Anderson both lost their respective matches.

This is reporter Kameron Ilman at the Cenian Nationals.

Six Andromedans advance!

Postby The Andromeda Islands » Fri Nov 14, 2014 11:29 pm

ANDROMEDA NEWS NETWORK
THE SPORTS HOUR
Cenian Open Coverage
Qualification Week
Day 1

ANN Sports Correspondent David Bishop reports live from National Racquet Club in Cenial, Ceni.

BISHOP: At the end of the day, almost all of the Andromedan players in Ceni Open Qualification have either made it into the Opening Round or will play for a spot tomorrow. John Galt, Bryce Lord, David Cho & Esperanza Cho have made the Opening Round outright. Barring the unthinkable, Maggie Cho and Judah Smith will also advance. Five of the remaining six players are still in contention for the few spots left. One of the players still in contention is Riley Escobar.

Cut to footage of Escobar’s match.

BISHOP: (off camera) Escobar hasn’t endeared himself with the locals with his constant arguments with the chair umpire.

ESCOBAR: (yelling) You didn’t see that spit? It was out!

UMPIRE: One more outburst like that and you’ll forfeit the game.

BISHOP: (off camera) Escobar’s serve was broken during that crucial game in the third set. He lost, 6-3 in the third.

Cut back to Bishop.

BISHOP: Here are the scores from qualification:

Cut to graphic.

Yelena Kazakova 6-3, 6-1 Sofia Akhtar (PAT)
Bryce Lord 6-2, 7-6 Joric Novikov (VAL)
Gtay Cherheni (CTU) 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 Louis Rich
Dong Si Yuan 6-3, 7-6 Carlos Marroquin (SJG)
Margarita Cho 6-1, 6-1 Cathy Crespo (USD)
Ben Robins (EST) 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 Riley Escobar
John Galt 7-5, 5-7, 6-3 Julian Ledesma (SJG)
Connor West (EST) 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 Violet Green

BISHOP: Not every player received bad breaks on this second day. For more on that, we have Lucius Webb with coverage of Youth Qualification.

Cut to Webb.

WEBB: Things didn’t look good here with the young Andromedans. Carmen Doyle lost a true heartbreaker, despite holding serve in both sets. She lost 7-6, 7-6 with both sets decided in tie-breakers. Judah Smith was also down a set and down a break, 3-5 in the second.

Cut to Judah Smith match.

WEBB: But Smith broke back, winning four straight games, breaking Gunther Anderson’s serve twice to win the second set.

Cut to Smith.

SMITH: One of the things that inspired me, I saw Kazakova’s match this morning.

Cut to Smith winning the last set.

SMITH: (off camera) She had lost the day before, but she played today like it never happened. I thought about how she just played through it. I thought about what she would do in my spot.

Smith shakes Gunther Anderson’s hand.

WEBB: Judah Smith won his match 7-5 in the third and will likely advance to the Opening Round. Here are the scores from Youth Qualification

Cut to graphic.

Judah Smith 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 Gunther Anderson (VAL)
Astrid Cambar (VAL) 7-6, 7-6 Carmen Doyle
David Cho 6-3, 6-4 Jordan Mitchell (EST)
Esperanza Cho 6-1, 6-1 John Banks (EST)

WEBB: Back to you, Dave!

Cut to Bishop for the Sports Hour Play of the Day.

BISHOP: Yelena Kazakova bounced back from her loss yesterday in classic fashion. During the second set, she was, indeed, her old self.

Cut to Kazakova match.

BISHOP: (off camera) Sofia Akhtar attempts a lob over Kazakova’s head. Kazakova jumps up and slams the ball past Akhtar, giving her a 5-1 lead in the final set. That slam is also our Sports Hour Play of the Day.

Sail Away
I just wish I could sail away
On that vast ocean
With the wind behind my back -
Away from all my troubles,
away from all my negative emotions
Away from all the people that define me
as someone they don't like -
away where I can be myself
away where I can do what I want
without someone telling me what I
can and cannot do
where I can live or die based on my own merits
not someone else's opinion -
I just want to sail away
A proud member of the Astyria region

First time abroad and they've already made their mark.
I'm talking about Ctulhti players in the Cenian Open of Tennis.

Everyone knows how skilled the players of our great nation are but I don't think many knew or even guessed how well they'd fare against the best of the other nations taking part in the qualifying stages.

So how well did they actually do? Short answer: excellent.
Of the nine players competing, every single one managed to reach the main draw of the tournament. Some in quite a commanding fashion too.

In singles main qualifying draw the top three players, Gtay Cherheni, Mtyth Okmath and Adoy Gharhei, won their qualifying groups and will now face Marcos Perez (SJG), Deanne Smith (ETM) and Zack White (EST) respectively. Mwarabran Mugoli Adsuuw also advanced by finishing second in his group. He'll face Eduerde de Ainiene (CLG) in the first round.

In U21 qualifying draw wonderkid Ccari Cherhla perhaps wasn't as commanding as expected but nevertheless made it to main draw by finishing second in his group after two wins. His opponent in first round will be Marguerita Cho (TAI) who won his own qualifying group.

In sporting region playoffs both qualifying groups ended with a Ctulhti player on top. Ccyth Ccarlat was undefeated while veteran Chun Gergtai topped the group with two wins to his name. They will face the 24th seed Natalia Emilia Garcia (CDO) and John Wilmer (EST) respectively in the first round.

Doubles qualifying consisted, luckily, of only match. Our top pair Gtay Cherheni/Adoy Gharhei were seeded straight to the main draw and thus didn't have to qualify. The news about the seeding was well met with the players, both being quite tired after finishing their singles qualifying matches earlier yesterday.

The other two pairs had to qualify but did so quite comfortably. Ccyth Ccarlat/Myth Gterhei thrashed their opponent 2-0. Youngsters Ccari Cherhla/Czoth Cterlai also won 2-0 but only after battling two full sets.

These are the first round doubles matches of our players:

Gtay Cherheni/Adoy Gharhei (CTU) vs Aurelo Alves/Marcelo de Santigo (CDO)
Les Lo/Bethaa Surr (CEN) vs (Q) Ccyth Ccarlat/Myth Gterhei (CTU)
Shaheer Shazib/Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi (PAT) vs (Q) Ccari Cherhla/Czoth Cterlai (CTU)

The tournament has been a succes so far, let's keep our fingers crossed it stays this way now that the competition really gets tough too!

OOC: Apologies to Ceni. I wrote this role play assuming that your country has something akin to a sports channel.

Beginnigans Bar and Grill
Near the Walford Asteria Hotel
Cenial, Ceni
Friday evening

John Galt sits with Dong Si Yuan, Dave & Esperanza Cho & Judah Smith. They were just about to order when Carmen Doyle and the Willis sisters walked in. Doyle celebrated her win yesterday by shopping this afternoon. The girls walk over to Galt’s table.

GALT: Celebrating, Miss Doyle?

Doyle and her companions sit down.

DOYLE: Certainly. And you Dong, you qualified too. Why didn’t you come with us?

DONG: I celebrate in a different way.

Most everyone suspected that John Galt and Dong Si Yuan were much more than doubles partners. Their convincing win today confirmed that they have good chemistry together.

Later that evening, as they were eating their food, Galt’s iPhone vibrates. He checks the message. It’s Kazakova. She wants Galt to come to her room. Galt puts it back in his pocket.

SMITH: I’m surprised Yelena didn’t qualify. The rest of us did. What happened, John?

GALT: I think she thought she could intimidate players like she does back home. But, as we all now know, International tennis is a whole different ball game.

Everyone at the table agrees. Meanwhile, Louis Rich, Maggie Cho, Violet Green and Bryce Lord walk in. Lord talks with Violet.

LORD: See, Violet. I told you. If you played like a Champion, you'd discover the Champion in you.

GREEN: Yes, Rev. Osteen. Things did break in my favour, like you said. Thanks, partner.

As Lord and his group come in, Galt and his group leave. Galt stops for a second.

GALT: Congratulations, Violet. You too, Louis.

RICH: Thanks! You know, the draw is up on CSN.com (Ceni Sports Network).

GALT: We’ll check it out.

As Galt leaves, Dong waits for him next to the door. Louis Rich’s iPhone goes off. He checks it. Lord tries to suppress a laugh.

LORD: That’s Yelena. She needs comforting.

As his friends laugh, Rich heads for the door.

RICH: Forget you guys. She’s ordering room service.

Later in the evening, Maggie Cho goes up to the bar to get drinks while Lord and Green eat. She notices Riley Escobar walking in. Maggie Cho is approached by a male tennis player.

BIFF: So, you a player?

M. CHO: Yes. I just qualified for the draw next week.

Escobar joins Lord and Green. Escobar notices Maggie Cho and her new friend.

BIFF: I see. A qualifier. My name’s Biff. I’m a big deal around here. Who are you?

As Maggie tells him who she is, Biff searches his pocket. Escobar finishes his beer and walks over to Maggie.

M. CHO: Maggie Cho. I’m from Andromeda.

Biff places a large bill on the bar.

BIFF: How about you and me, my room, ten minutes?

Maggie’s heart sinks. Escobar interrupts Biff.

ESCOBAR: You got those beers for us yet, love?

Escobar looks at the large bill on the bar and puts two-and-two together.

ESCOBAR: This dude’s paying? Thanks a lot there, buddy! That’s mighty white of you.

Biff leaves dejected. Maggie Cho is relieved.

M. CHO: Thanks, Riley. I owe you one.

ESCOBAR: Hey, we got free beer. I call it even.

As Maggie and Escobar go back to their table, she reconsiders what she jokingly said to her friends about him, that he was “a thug with a tennis racquet.” There’s nothing that says a man can’t be both common and noble.

Speaking with the players of the Cenian Open, Tennis Spotlight

Filipp Maksimov's thoughts of the match

"I'm playing against Rory Hasselhoff, I still cannot belioeve I'm play against Rory, I neve believed that. I think it's just luck, I'm playing against my idol, I hope I can beat Rory." was the first thought of Maksimov, then I asked

"So, when did Rory become your idol?"

"Well, you drive back on the start of my proffessional career in the previous Cenian Open, where I saw some of Rory's matches and I was stunned to death, but I preffered not to follow Rory's style as I didn't see fit, copying my idol."

"Why, Filipp?"

"Because, I prefer having my own style rather than copying someone else's, besides having your own style is good because nobody can just read you mind and find where the ball will go and that's the reason I did well in the last tournament and a very obvious reason on becoming a Wildcard."

"So, do you think you'll do well on the match tonight?"

"It depends, I just don't want to be shocked when I meet my idol and I'll just gonna finish the game quick, as most of the time."

"Are there any comments to te fans?"

"Stay strong, believe in your dreams and you'll achieve them. Bye bye."

"Goodbye."

Nikita Aleksov comments

So I began the conversation this time and I asked as well "John Banks is your opponent Nikita, do you think that you can win?"

So he answered "Yes, I can beat the Estopian star, because I have more strength than last year and I won't be tired easily, like last year."

"So any thoughts that you have in the future against him?"

"Well, I cannot decide the future, I believe it's the o, others believe it's the Karma and others think it from now but I say no, because you can't decide your future, unless it's the near future."

"Well, after the match what are you going to do?"

"Whether it's a win or a loss, I'll just give hands with him and then just relax home or just play PS4 with him and upload it on youtube."

"Oh, any messages to the fans."

"Stay strong, keep calm, you can achive your dream, at least if you believe in them."

"Goodbye, sir."

"Goodbye."

Too Easy
It's a bright day in Ceni [Chorus]
I've beaten so many
I can take on any
This female is shaking up Ceni

This tournament will stay in my memory [Chorus]
The sweet feeling victory
I'm the best tennis player in history
Full of enlightening mystery

I will be a champ [Chorus]
Giving other teams no chance to revamp
Other players better go back to tennis camp
Because playing me gives you cramps

It's a bright day in Ceni [3x Chorus]

Road to ATP World Tour Finals

-Which of the Britonish players will be the top 24?

Nine Britonish players are very close to being in the top 24 for the ATP World Tour Finals. At least 6 of them have a chance of being in the top 24 and if they are all in the top 24 we would have 6/24 which is quite a big percentage, now let's look at our matches and our people.

Section 1

Maya Cassington (ETM) vs Lacey Turner (BRI)

Lacey Turner might be in the top 24 but she has to win the whole tournament but I doubt that will ever happen. So, there is no hope for Lacey Turner. However, she is the longest-lower ranked player for Britonisea and she needs to finish the year on a high. If she doesn't then she won't be participating in next years tournament. If she is not above 45 by the end of 2014, she will be axed of the team. Maya Cassington can play tennis but she can slip up a lot, big time. So this will be an easy match for Lacey. If Lacey loses this will be a career low. Not to be rude to Maya. Bookies: Lacey to win= 76%

(30) Duncan Newman (BRI) vs Samuel Gates (ETM)

Duncan Newman is ranked 30 in the ATP and is very close to being in the top 24. Only 6 places away. If he gets far in this competition, he has a chance of going to the World Tour FInals. Samuel Gates also can play tennis but needs to watch out for Duncan. By the way, his Old Britonish name is Dunkun. Bookies: Dunkun to win=80%

(27) Leone Na (BRI) vs (Alt) Lewis Diver (DRV)

Leone Na is also very close. She is ranked 27 in the tournament. Just a note, a player may return so they might not get a place in the top 24. If Leone does well then she can easy beat this newcomer, Lewis Diver. Bookies : Leone to win= 61%

Section 2

(9) Lance Mance (BRI) vs Jack Lewis (EST)

Lance Mance has worked hard to be in the top 20 of the ATP and he has successfully done it. We think that he will beat this Estopian easily and go to the second round. If he doesn't beat Jack then something is very wrong with him. Lance will do it, and we will all have faith in Lance. You can do it! Bookies: Lance to win=95%

Section 3

(26) Abi Forrest (BRI) vs Samantha Deux-Brady (SLL)

Ranked 26, Abi can also do it. The thing is, everybody in the Britonish team are tied together. Their rankings are very close together. Which is quite weird. Another nation who might have this would be Ceni but we have one of the most in the top 30. It would be a tough match for Abi Forrest as she hasn't been on top form lately. Bookies Abi to win= 68%

Section 4

(4) Ricardo Toli (BRI) vs (WC) Sam White (EST)

Oh look, the big man. Ricardo Toli is 4th in the world as is apart of the Britonish team. He will be apart of the Nirvedebritonise team. North Britonisea as that is where he is originally from. We hope that this doesn't affect his ranking because he is a great player and it would be bad for him to drop rankings because he changed his trigramme. Hopefully he would strive to win and get to the finals against someone. Ricardo to win=99%

Section 6

(19) Elizabeth Quehall (BRI) vs (Q) Louis Rich (EST)

Lizzy Quehall is a woman of wonders. When she first started to play tennis, she wore long skirts. Finally adapting to the 21st century, she is now wearing fashionable clothes which has got her the top 20 space coming in to the final grand slam of the year. She is playing some boy and I think she could win this, or maybe Louis' got the power. Bookies Lizzy to win= 71%

Section 8

(25) Leo Garry (BRI) vs Dioro Hansil (CEN)

The list of the Britonish men hasn't come to a stop yet! Leo Garry, newcomer, is 25th place coming in to this tournament and is looking to win it, however he plays Ceni's Dioro Hansil and this player has some good history. Dioro could pull through. But Leo can teach him a lesson. Leo to win= 45%

(14) Peter P Larry (BRI) vs Marc Burns (DRV)

Finally, Peter P Larry is 14th. He is one of the oldest players in the squad and he has been playing tennis for years. Peter had a blow with one of the Super Llamalands. But you know, everybody has to have an argument. Peter P Larry is still a great person who has his eye on winning this tournament in his second World Tour Finals. Peter to win= 67%

Mixed Results for Val Halla

There were mixed results for the Val Hallan competitors in the Cenian Open.

The main upset was for Joric Novikov in singles. He played on level terms with Joanna Cosby for the first two matches, only to lose the third 6-0. Joric was clearly very frustrated towards the end, failing to be at all competitive.

Interviewed after his lost he said, "I have no idea what happened, I was playing on terms with her for the first to games, but I just flopped at the end." Whilst tears were flowing out of his eyes after singles, he managed to regain his composure to beat to beat the team of Adiela and Cerile Sestiere in doubles along with partner Isahiah Talis. "I am amazed by how fast Joric regained composure, he was clearly upset with how singles turned out for him but he pulled through here" said Talis afterwards.

Whilst Astrid Novikov and Gunther Anderson both fell out of the competition, some managed to give a great show for the fans. Astrid Cambar and Gerdur Ivath went through cleanly, winning all their playoff games to get through, Sven Anders slithered into he main draw after holding off Patistan's Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi to get a very marinal spot in the main draw.

"I'm a little surprised to be honest. I felt a tad uncomfortable, because some of the players here looked a bit daunting going in, but I think I have earned the right to be pleased after winning twice. Just gotta carry this momentum and see where it takes us."

Gerudr Ivath managed to set up the same trap Joric Novikov fell into. After a very close second match with Sumaltheria's Evan Arian, in which she lost out by one set in a very dramatic showdown, she blew her opponent out of the water in the third match, taking a very confident six sets to none. It meant that she qualified with the full nine points to her favor.

It was a less dramatic final qualifier for Astrid Cambar, when she took victory over Alicia va Darling with relative ease, securing nine points. She demonstrated all the agility she had shown so far, making her small size completely irrelavent. The young girl from Veshiale has taken up Joric Novikov's flag as Val Halla's beacon of hope.

PREVIEW: CENIAN OPEN

Section 1 :: World number one (and Cenian) Elaine Foyner, on top of a 12-match winning streak, is the highest seed in this section. She has a lot of advantages: she's experienced, she's on home soil, and she has good momentum after two titles so far this season. Andre Pedrinho Delgado, defending third-place winner, is in her section, and the Costeño has done well in Cenial in the past. However, Foyner has more advantages than Delgado does here. Delgado, though, might take advantage of Foyner's flagging stamina and advance to the quarterfinals, an event that is possible but not likely.

Watch Out For: None of the other players in this section are particularly renowned for their tennis ability. Four of them are qualifiers and the rest haven't made it very far in tournaments in the past. Duncan Newman and Leone Na are slightly better than the average of the rest of the players in this section, but they pale in comparison to Foyner and Delgado. There probably won't be too many upsets in this section.

Quarterfinalist: Foyner

Section 2 :: Section 2 is more closely contested than Section 1 is. With Lance Mance and Javier Bochenek, two consistent players leading the field, scheduled to play in the Round of 16, this section can be pretty close. More than that, though, there are several up-and-comers that are entirely capable of pulling off an upset in this section. Some other notable players and again, several qualifiers, are in this section, but they really haven't been in their prime recently and the qualifiers don't have enough experience to take on the big guns yet.

Watch Out For: Wild card Andy Amada and Jack Lewis. A teenage tennis prodigy, Amada's parents moved to Ceni from Racao. Amada has a big playing style; his serve is big and his forehands are powerful. Jack Lewis is an Estopian up-and-comer who has the skills to defeat Lance Mance - but can he do it?

Quarterfinalist: Bochenek

Section 3 :: Amancio Raimundo Belo, desperate to overcome his first-round exit in the Electrum Slam, is the defending finalist of the Cenian Open. He is up against home rising star Ciache Nagya, who recently found some of her potential by reaching the final of the Santa Maria Open, defeating no.4 Ricardo Toli and no. 6 Brett Roley along the way. Both are on the lookout for a good Grand Slam performance, but this tournament both could be ripe for an upset. Nothing is certain in this section.

Watch Out For: Belo is a little vulnerable to upsets, but his first round match, Sar Kanova, is an obscurity. Not much is known about the Dunpan tennis player. However, both Wilmer of Estope and Gergtai of Ctulhtii have the talent to defeat Belo when he is having a bad day.

Quarterfinalist: Nagya

Section 4 :: Ricardo Toli stands above and beyond the field in Section 4. The third seed, Toli reached the semifinals of the Cenial Masters and the Electrum Slam. Brendan Hernandez, the other seed in this section, is unexceptional, but he has never reached any important milestones in his tennis career so far. Toli will probably win this section with a minimum of resistance.

Watch Out For: Eighteenth seed Bishop Lou Kelly has had some good results in the past, reaching the semifinal of the Lzher-Jeckland Invitational this year, but he is old, and has indicated his wish to retire soon. Kelly may be playing well enough to reach the quarterfinals or he may fizzle out before then.

Quarterfinalist: Toli

Before the Match
before the match
my heart beats like an oversized water pump
trying to get rid of all the water
before a harried ship
sinks beneath the waves

before the match
my head sweats
like Iguazu Falls -
pouring down my body
with no end in sight

before the match
my lungs pant
like a dog
who has just come back
from an hour-long Frisbee session
with his owner

before the match
i feel so many competing influences
but i know i can do it -
or can i?
doubt isn't in me
i will do it
no matter what happens

before the match i feel confidence
ooze out of me
like pine sap rolls down
the skin of the tree

before the match
i am ready
before the match
i will wait
before the match
i survive

after it - will i?
the answer - yes
