Q-League: 2016-2017 Season (1)

Biggest matches: MD1-13
MD1: Goose Bay Fire 3–3 CSKA Quebec- 6 goals were scored as Johan Mahler(QUE; Goose Bay) scored a hat trick in last 20 minutes of second half to neutralise an excellent performance put by defected Gregoryisgodistani Antolini (2 goals) and Darvalian Philip Dowling (1 goal, 1 assist).

MD2: Kingston FC 3–1 Hamilton Steelers FC- Kingston FC, on its return to the elite division and thus the "Battle of Hogville" rivalry, beat a weak Hamilton Steelers team on an Alex Cartwright double and an Isaac Bing header.

MD3: London FC 2–3 Montreal Koreana- Montreal Koreana once again kept its placing in the top of the table by fending off London FC in 26th- and 35th-minute goals by Chlatan Joe Ringer-Toso and 48th minute finisher by Semarlandic Chresnur Balatksson, who later got sent off in 86th minute after biting Gaston-Remy Gregoire in his knuckles.

MD4: Zenit Attawapiskat 3–2 Hamilton Steelers FC- Countless of spectacular saves by Joshua Killian(ZEN) and Jordan Lee(SAR) hat trick proved to be a lifesaver in overcoming what was Zenit's most challenging match in its schedule so far. Their defence, without Cosumarite Sheldon Serra(flu) for the match, was shaky but the home team left with 3 points to place themselves ahead of Kingston FC and St.John's Arsenal.

MD5: Kingston FC 2–3 Iqaluit Red Army- Robert Byeon-Myeong rendered the two-goal effort from Cartwright(SLL) with his own hat trick, as the Red Army pulls itself out of three-game losing streak and initial slump.

MD6: Quebec Phoenixes 2–5 Montreal Koreana- Rolandinho Juliano(USI) netted his league-leading 8th and 9th goal of the season in what was an utter domination for the Koreana in an anticlimatic match against them. In front of the sellout crowd of 76,848 in Stade St.Croix, with its roof wide open in middle of rain, they propelled themselves to the top of the table over Trojana Condommakers FC.

MD7: Quebec Phoenixes 0–2 Trojana Condommakers FC- Connie Chase(HRE) scored her 7th and 8th in the season, pulling herself closer to the top of the ladder, as Trojana handed the Phoenixes another defeat in front a sellout crowd.

MD8: CSKA Quebec 4–4 Kingston FC- Goals, flamethrowers and punches went everywhere as the eventual contest between historic CSKA and risers in Kingston FC ended with a massive on-turf brawl that lasted for thirty minutes. Two goals by Cassius Antollini(QUE; CSKA) and Zesh Rehman(PAT; Kingston) were the key highlights of the game.

MD9: London FC 0–4 Trojana Condommakers FC- Connie Chase scored 2 goals, now with 11 goals as Trojana once again handed a Trojana, which in Guayabalense Spanish means utter domination in a sporting match, on defensively inept Lancers, to increase their point lead on championship by 6 points.

MD10: Goose Bay Fire 3–6 Kingston FC- 19-year old Marco Engvall started his first goal with a goal and two assists, as Kingston FC scored league-high 6 goals in a single game to win. Cartwright's 2 goal and Rehman's 2 assist performance were also noteworthy.

MD11: Iqaluit Red Army 1–0 Trojana Condommakers FC- A shocking loss to The Condommakers as Barukh Kjeldsen(Sandwich Territories; Iqaluit) scored the game winner in -10'C weather.

MD12: Winnipeg United 0–2 St.John's Arsenal- St.John's made mincemeat of awful United squad with two goals by Louis Nittenpepper(his 8th and 9th) after a tie against lowly Goose Bay the week before.

MD13: Zenit Attawapiskat 4–5 Winnipeg United- Injury to Sheldon Serra didn't help as their defensive inexperience cost the game, with sole highlight for the 4th-place squad being 2 pairs of goals each scored by Jordan Lee(SAR; 7th and 8th) and Rolando(USI; 6th and 7th).

Q-League 2017 Season-2018 Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts

Prenneau Cup Final: 2016-2017

Halifax Tempest 3–4 Kingston Knights

Game 1 started with much fanfare, as the Tempest sought to win their first Prenneau Cup after countless appearances without one, while the Knights aimed to make this the stamp mark on their dynasty. The clashes of desires showed, as it all exploded in a big-time showdown in Halifax.

It was the Knights who broke the silence when defenceman Ian Blanc-Laperriere scored off a breakaway thanks to a defensive mistake done by Keith Pearson, ending period 1 with a 1-0 lead. The home squad did not panic however, as they scored in barrages to create a 2-1 lead with goals from Anthony Mantha and Seb Eller in the 2nd period. Now trailing behind, the Knights struggled to find their footings and was only able to break through when Pavel Smirnov hustled through and score in a breakaway goal. Then the momentum quickly shifted, as the Knights then scored 2 more to end the game in their favour, rendering the effectiveness of a Kesler goal.

Halifax Tempest 1–0 Kingston Knights

Game 2 was a tense affair that featured a bench-clearing period in the 2nd period. It all started when the Knights pest Maurice Kim goaded Marc Emond to slash him repeatedly, resulting the Knights to come to aid with their gloves dropped, as he winked at Emond. This led to the bench-clearing brawl that ended with 8 Knights and 6 Tempests on the box, including both the backup goalies(Seth McLean, Halifax; Samuel Bibeau, Kingston). Unfortunately for Knights the moment of disappointment came right afterwards as Jean Bellard went on to score the only goal of the game 13 seconds into the power play, and Hal Niemes held the fort, registering 39 saves on goal to record his 23rd shutout on playoffs.

Kingston Knights 6–2 Halifax Tempest

Sylvain Turcotte scored off an early breakaway, that was due to a rudimentary mistake caused by Ryan Eller, to put the Knights up 1-0. This would follow with even more of pain when the Knights doubled the lead with Ian Blanc-Laperriere scoring from blueline off his one-timer. Tempest came back in the second period with two goals by Anthony Mantha, but was unable to grab a solid lead despite 2 power play opportunities late in the period. This would come costly as Kingston rallied to score 4 goals in the last 10 minutes of the third period, including 2 goals by Dave Clark and Alexandre Rioux, to win the game, 6-2.

Kingston Knights 2–2 Halifax Tempest (2–3 OT)

Well, here we go again. Another bench brawl happened as 2nd post-game brawl between Tempest and Knights this final happened. The brawl was sparked when Tempest pest Mark Kassian mockingly waved at Knights' rookie Maurice Kim after buzzer sounded on Mike Kesler's game winning goal that evened the series at two. Kim, pissed, jumped right at Kassian, resulting in other players jumping in their aid. As a consequence, a brawl erupted and lasted until the players had to leave.

Halifax Tempest 1–2 Kingston Knights

...And fear makes the way into the hearts of Tempest once again. The team has yet to win a cup in its 48 years of history, and despite making into the finals on most of the 8 tries they had, they never got to capitalise on the key opportunities and squandered all their chances when it mattered. The game 5 was the epitome of this statement, as the Tempest launched PCF-record 54 shots on Alexandre Browne, but only managed to get 1 in, not to mention being 0 for 5 in power play. It was not as intense as many have expected it to be, due to the fact that 15 players, 8 from Kingston and 7 from Halifax including both backup goaltenders, were suspended, but still had its share of fights with 2 happening at the near-end of the game.

Kingston Knights 0–1 Halifax Tempest

Just as all the hope looks to be lost for City of Halifax, they're back at it again. With a much game by blueliner Elso Kekkonen and Goalie Hal Niemes, the Tempest launched 29 shots on goal this time, with a lucky one coming off Heon Goh, generated by Alexandre Browne's poor handling of puck this time. Now, the ultimate showdown will be determined by the game 7, the one to end it all for both teams.....

Halifax Tempest 0–1 Kingston Knights

And that's it, folks. Thomas Tey, the third-line Sicoutian winger from Valhalla, netted his 2nd and most important goal of the playoffs, on 15th minute of the third period to end it all.

Quebec Football League: 2017 Season

Regular Season

West Division Pld W L PF PA PD
1 Winnipeg Blue Bombers 20 13 7 305 209 +96
2 Attawapiskat Rangers 20 12 8 179 128 +51
3 Kingston Argonauts 20 12 8 318 290 +28
4 Montreal Alouettes 20 10 10 289 272 +17
-------------------------------------------------------------
5 Abitibi Wolves 20 9 11 271 297 −26
6 Ottawa Renegades 20 4 16 186 352 −166

The surprise of West Division was Winnipeg, who had everything working in offence to make their way to the top, while Rangers had their defence shutting things pretty well for them, with a very low figure of 6.04 points/game. Rangers, modeling their game after the Ko-orenite National Team, stood above the injury-ridden Argonauts and inconsistent Alouettes. Abitibi showed promise, but still showed their leafs as they failed to make the playoffs, while Ottawa was plain bad.

East Division Pld W L PF PA PD
1 Saint John Steelers 20 17 3 371 201 +170

3 Gaspe Impulse 20 11 9 329 260 +69
4 Labrador Roughriders 20 8 12 172 158 +14
--------------------------------------------------------------
5 Newfoundland Highlanders 20 6 14 258 416 −158
6 Iqaluit Thanatos 20 5 15 165 294 −129

Saint John Steelers profited off a record-breaking season by Seong Min Lee, who recorded 4,000 yards in season passing yards this season to set the benchmark of a proper Q-League Quarterback. They had their offence clicking for them and with Michael Lewis on charge kept the defense tight as well. On the contrary
Adrian Meriwether stood tall in Voyageurs, receiving season-leading 19 touchdowns to mark his 15th season in QFL, 10th of which he spent in Quebec City. Impulse bounced back from what was a disappointing season while Roughriders were dominant in home games but couldn't score enough to place highly in the standings. Newfoundland and Labrador meanwhile suffered through what was a very strong East Division this year, as the former allowed league-high 416 points thanks to their patchhole defence, while latter simply got slaughtered in offensive aspect of the game.

Playoffs

Division Semifinals
Winnipeg Blue Bombers 19–7 Montreal Alouettes
Attawapiskat Rangers 24–16 Kingston Argonauts

Saint John Steelers 3–0 Labrador Roughriders
Quebec Voyageurs 27–27 Gaspe Impulse (37–34 OT)

Division Final
Winnipeg Blue Bombers 0–0 Attawapiskat Rangers (6–3 2OT)
Saint John Steelers 31–17 Quebec Voyageurs

Imperial Bowl

The Imperial Bowl game was at its all-time height. The omnipotent Steelers were facing against dark horses in Blue Bombers, both of whom had excellent offence and decent defense to cruise their way to the ultimate showdown. The Iqaluit Stadium was filled with fans of either Blue and Gold, or Silver and White, with the whole day rotating around the festivities surrounding the 131st Imperial Bowl Game. Everyone was ready for it.

The First two quarters were rather dull, as Seong Min Lee put forward a Touchdown early to create a 7-0 lead, which would then increase with a field goal to 10-0. Bombers, towards the end of second quarter, made a comeback with a Touchdown off a nasty interception, but the Steelers were pretty far away, with a 11-8 lead to put forward.

Entering the third quarter a huge question was put on for the Blue Bombers: Will they stay in the game or fall apart? Fortunately, they found a way to stay in the game and took over momentum in the third quarter when quarterback Tim Othoko got the passing game going for a pair of TDs and a brief 20-11 lead. But Saint John’s running game took over the rest of the way, eating up the clock with long drives, before converting 2 field goals to make it 20-17 by the end of third quarter.

The Steelers were keeping up the pressure, but the Bombers were holding on to their lead with much desperation. The dam broke however halfway through the fourth quarter, when Raju Chutra found a hole in Bombers' defensive coverage and made a 34-yard breakthrough. Right on same drive Dragomir Visnovky kept his hands out, reaching forward as he managed to crash with a face first, 8-year touchdown through the scrimmage to end the game, and for all.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers 20–23 Saint John Steelers

Who is Quebec's most popular athletes?

Well, we here at Sport+ wanted to find out! We surveyed our viewers and readers and our personalities and came up with this very scientific list. The second consecutive World Cup qualification for World Cup of soccer and third semifinals appearance in last four editions made for very dense representation on hockey and soccer, while the other top sports, especially the gridiron, got lesser representation.

TOP 10
1. Maxwell Belmont-Deschamps (hockey)
2. Logan Guthrie (hockey)
3. Zachary Fortin (soccer)
4. Soo Myeon Kim (hockey)
5. Johanna Wez (handball)
6. Dave Clark (hockey)
7. Frederic Beauchemin (soccer)
8. Seung Min Lee (football)
9. Etienne Park (hockey)
10. Dannick Ishongawa (rugby)

Q-League Elite Division: 2018-2019 Season

And we're back to another season of Q-League. Royal Kingdom of Quebec has experienced the many changes since the conclusion of the league, most notably because of the Grim Reapers' qualification to the Round of Sixteen and the improvements of the Quebecois football teams and players' results in almost every front.

During the first thirds of the season, we could see the two teams leading the way: Montreal Koreana and Trojana Condommakers FC. Montreal, the traditional giant fueled by its Sunrisian duo, Sarian midfielder Gill Reis and Chiatan star Ringer-Toso, showed that it's still going strong with 10 undefeated games, including 5 game winning streak to start the season. Trojana Condommakers meanwhile continued to show its defensive prowess, allowing just 4 goals while still being able to score 13 (9 from Connie Chase) right behind Koreana.

There were some surprises in the first third as well, the most notable example being Nunavut North Stars and Hamilton Steelers FC. Nunavut and Hamilton, both teams playing in blue collar cities, thrived under their managers' systems and are currently 3rd and 4th in the league, hoping to take the matters into their hands and perhaps overthrow the Koreana-Trojana duopoly of championships.

On the contrary, there were some significant crashes that happened in this third as well. St.John's Arsenal, coming off the championship season, started poorly when they lost 3 embarrassing games in a row to start the season. The team since then has picked up the pace but is still far from the contention, with them currently stuck in 11th place as inconsistencies prevented them from rolling back. Alianza FAShionista and Kingston FC were no better either: While they have the power and talent, they lacked consistencies and much defensive efforts, leading them to lose points in key games and drop down in standings.

Some teams meanwhile stayed relatively same to their final standings last season. Iqaluit Red Army, a traditional giant who has fallen hard on times, is once again in the relegation zone while Goose Bay Fire continued its descent by its 6-game away winless streak, dropping the team to the bottom of Q-League.

The Second third of the league was marked by the success of Zenit and sudden drop of Nunavut North Stars. The Attawapikat, Northwest-side, which has experienced the sudden resurgence after a mediocre start to the season. Jean-Luc Duval, with full-powered Jordan Lee and 3 Zenicians on his side, went on a 7-game winning streak, as well as 6 straight undefeated streak on home, to overtake others and equal Montreal in points. The opposite happened for Nunavut, as they ran out of gas and started to allow mistakes in crucial matchups, leading in their huge slide from 3rd to 9th place. With Barukh Kjeldsen injured for the rest of the season after a torn ACL in Week 12, Magadan Sukhomlin's out of options with offence, so perhaps this may be the end of what looked to be a promising season for the North Stars.

Meanwhile, Trojana Condommakers struggled, and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and London FC slid down the standings, due to different reasons. Kingston FC, on the other hand, took advantage of a potent trio between Rehman, Engvall and Cartwright, boosting their standings to the sixth. The teams otherwise remained relatively stable and close in terms of their standings.

Montreal Koreana managed to keep up their excellent performances, clinching the Q-League Premiership at the third-last week into the season. The team, who had a very disapppointing campaign last season, came back and showed the world that they're back for real and perhaps could make difference in years to come.

Trojana Condommakers once came close to the premiership but their overreliance on Connie Chase eventually costed them, as her injury on 26th week of the season led to them crashing down with a 0-1-2 record on the last game. Such a shameful finish for the Condommakers after going undefeated for 7 straight games since last time, but at least they managed to keep their UICA spot and return to the Globe Cup qualification round.

CSKA Quebec rose back to the UICA football spot after a disappointing season. Harley and Jeong really lifted their game up in the last stretch, and the existing stars of Pompei Mansur, Rommelwald, Dowling and young prospects like Chang and Engelland all came together to show us the glimpse of a very promising future ahead of the traditional giants. Meanwhile Zenit Attawapiskat's hot run cooled down, but they still managed to stay strong and close enough to finish it in the fourth place, giving them the last spot for the upcoming cycle of UICA football.

On the other sides, it was just as interesting. Kingston's inconsistencies came back, and they crashed back to ninth place. Hamilton kept up their hard work and team system, getting a feel-good story for most of our football fans while it was a finish to back-to-reality season for Alianza FAShionista de Montreal. Arsenal fans were surely disappointed through the whole season, but at least could console through their progress and improving form over the course of the last two-thirds, while London and Nunavut did okay enough to stay in where they were and deservedly were expected to be.

Chemo and Islanders avoided relegation (they were never close to reaching the bottom three the whole season anyways) and Coal Diggers were lucky in avoiding the promotion-relegation playoff, thanks to an epic goal made by its Gregoryisgodistani star (Death to San Jose Guayabal). Iqaluit Red Army, meanwhile, really hit rock bottom as they finished the season far from its former self, having to face the play-off round in order to stay, while Goose Bay Fire was just......extinguished to the Challenge Division. Quebec Phoenixes crashed down to the bottom, but there's not much to say about it since everybody saw it coming, after they had to sell 4 key players in January trading period due to financial problems. They, a small team in such a big market, couldn't compete and as a result were pushed out.
