Q1 is underway! Who will avoid the first elimination?

A surprise casualty in Q1. Winslow Little pulls a stunning lap out of the bag to get into 10th displacing none other then Marco Andretti who was possibly guilty of complacency having tried to get into second qualifying on the harder compound.

Leaderboard:

1: Mitch Sampson
2: Kylee Lindenmuth
3: Gerald Burgess
4: Tommy Handlos
5: Kha Mervin
6: Carlo Verstappen
7: André Bernado
8: Alberto Rossini
9: Guido Perez
10: Jun Mai
11: Winslow little
12: Mathieya Macmillan
-------------------
13: Marco Andretti
14: H.M Martinez
15: Justin Harlow
16: Jack Jakino

Session two has got underway!

Arguably the usual suspects exiting in the second session, but Jun Mai is agonisingly close to getting in to the shootout, but runs out onto the grass into the chicane at the end of the lap. He ends up 10th.

1: Kylee Lindenmuth
2: Gerald Burgess
3: Carlo Verstappen
4: Mitch Sampson
5: Alberto Rossini
6: André Bernado
7: Tommy Handlos
8: Kha Mervin
-------------
Eliminated
9: Guido Perez
10: Jun Mai
11: Winslow Little
12: Mathieya Macmillan

Mitch Sampson takes Pole!

Sampson takes pole, but only by .010 of a second! Alberto Rossini takes a good second, but will be gutted at how close he came to top.
Verstappen takes a solid third with Gerald Burgess fourth and apparently struggling for corner pace relative to last time out.
André Bernado and Tommy Handlos will line up fifth and sixth with Kylee Lindenmuth and Kha Mervin on the fourth row of the grid.

See you tomorrow for the race!

Team Social Media News Feed

Impressive Qualifier!

Alberto Rossini second and André Bernado fifth in the shootout! Both the Coach and the Boss is flabbergasted by the sudden and rapid improvement by both Debutantes in a short period of time withe both drivers extremely satisfied with their performance that during the interview both drivers said that they have a great chance of finishing within the top 3 overall in the Drivers Championship and also the team finishing overall within the top 3 in the Constructors Championship. The only thing both the coach and the boss have to say is maintain what they are doing which apparently both drivers are doing right but now isn't the time to stop, party and celebrate this significant achievement but until the very end of The Royal Cup then It's party time.

So, the Daytona GP in Zips nation begins in a few minutes. Here us the circuit information:

Daytona infield circuit:

Length: 3.56 Miles

Turns: 12 (including a large hairpin at turn 12, a double chicane and 2 tight hairpins at 3 and 6.)

The world famous racetrack at Daytona Beach has hosted many classic events around it's iconic tri-oval lay out. However, the configuration used in the Royal Cup is a sports car course originally built in 1959 and upgraded to the current layout in 1985.

The circuit is testing if both straight line speed, but also has tight bends in the first and middle sectors which despite being fairly short distance, make up the bulk of the lap because of the slow speeds. This leads back out onto the tri oval where the high speed final sector begins

So the cars come round to complete their formation lap with Mitch Sampson on pole.

The lights go out and we are underway. Sampson gets a good launch and sweeps through turn one, but Verstappen takes advantage of a poor getaway by Rossini to take second and Burgess follows him through into third through turn one.

Mitch Sampson wins the Zips Nation Grand Prix !

Mitch Sampson controlled the race from pole to win. Keeping pace with the rest of the field whilst pulling away. His less worn tires also helped him as the rest of the field struggled to make it cleanly around turn 12.

Carlo Verstappen just managed to hold off Gerald Burgess and Alberto Rossini for second with Rossini scraping past Burgess on the last lap in the melee, but under investigation for an illegal move as he ran wide onto the tarmac run off.

Kylee Lindenmuth came home fifth with Marco Andretti fighting through the field to take sixth aided by a last ditch pit stop when the safety car came out for an incident involving Jun Mai and H.M Martinez leaving Mai's car stricken on outside of turn one.

André Bernado finished seventh with Kha Mervin's aggressive driving, but poor tire management left him moving up and down the grid. Mathieya Macmillan had a quiet race in eighth with Perez ninth and H.M Martinez making a late push to take his teams first point in the Royal Cup.

Winslow little finished outside the points, but wasn't particularly close to earning anything whilst Tommy Handlos will once more be left dissapointed after hitting a back-marker whilst running in sixth and ending up in the Armco barrier having slid dangerously across the chicane towards the end of the lap. Jack Jakino was 13th, Justin Harlow 14th with Jun Mai and Winslow little both failing to finish.

The explanation from Rossini for the move which may deemed unfairly to be "Illegal" during the last lap is that:

"Burgess locked up unexpectedly at turn 1 while slowing down as I was well deep into the overtake on the inside with no way to back down and suddenly without prior warning Burgess rear left wheel locked up as this happened so quickly as seen on my right side mirror which I had no choice but to initiate an evasive maneuver more to the left to avoid a pile up thus causing the car to veer onto the tarmac run off during the overtake done at turn 1 to avoid a serious accident as Burgess's front end rapidly veered more to the left within seconds of the lock up."

Q1 is underway!

No surprises in Q1, but a good effort from H.M Martinez to make it through to Q2.

1: Gerald Burgess
2: Mitch Sampson
3: Tommy Handlos
4: Marco Andretti
5: Kylee Lindenmuth
6: Carlo Verstappen
7: André Bernado
8: Kha Mervin
9: Alberto Rossini
10: Mathieya Macmillan
11: Guido Perez
12: H.M Martinez
----------------
13: Winslow Little
14: Jun Mai
15: Justin Harlow
16: Jack Jakino

Session 2 has finished and there's a dissapointing lap by Alberto Rossini. He is out! An uncharachteristic throw-around lap by Mathieya Macmillan puts him 8th.

1: Mitch Sampson
2: Marco Andretti
3: Gerald Burgess
4: Carlo Verstappen
5: Kylee Lindenmuth
6: Tommy Handlos
7: André Bernado
8: Mathieya Macmillan
-------------------
9: Alberto Rossini
10: Kha Mervin
11: Guido Perez
12: H.M Martinez

And out of nowhere, Kylee Lindenmuth takes pole! He's last across the line and his first and second sectors only look good enou for second, but he throws it all together in the last sector and scrapes into pole! Burgess is second with Andretti third.

1: Kylee Lindenmuth (1:21.736)
2: Gerald Burgess (1:21.782)
3: Marco Andretti (1:22.038)
4: Tommy Handlos (1:22.371)
5: Carlo Verstappen (1:22. 529)
6: Mitch Sampson (1:22.715)
7: André Bernado (1:22.917)
8: Mathieya Macmillan (no time)

Circuit info: Osterreichring

Circuit map:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:%C3%96sterreichring.svg

Turns: 18 including the Hella Licht chicane, at turn 1/2/3 and many sweeping corners.

Race lap record: 1:23.357-Nelson Piquet, Williams FW11B, 1987

Situated in the scenic Styrian mountains, this older configuration of the Osterreichring is considered faster and more dangerous then the red-bull ring due to its fast sweeping corners and punishing run off. Indeed before the introduction of the chicane that makes up the first few corners, the lap of the circuit could be completed without going any lower than third gear and at one time, it held the record for the highest average speed over a lap in F1.
Turns 5 and 8 are particularly scary because of them almost being possible to take flat out. They also contribute to the circuit being extremely hard on engines and tires with as much as a 4-5 stop predicted for the race later today.

All this makes this Grand Prix one of the greatest and most classic spectacles on the Royal Cup calender.

The cars come round to the narrow pit-straight to take their positions. Kylee Lindenmuth is swerving from side to side to keep the heat in the tires. Now Jakino takes his place at the back of the grid. Five lights and now we're underway. Tommy Handlos gets a great launch, but hang on, it looks like he's made a jump start.
Meanwhile Lindenmuth holds on to first around the chicane with Marco Andretti getting past Burgess into second.
---------------

Cars currently making their second stop of the race. Tire degradation is high and track temperature is fairly toasty today.
The exception to this rule is Mathieya Macmillan who seems to be trying a three stop race. That could be interesting...
Lindenmuth still leads, but is coming under pressure from the two Haas cars. Tommy Handlos has served a drive through penalty for a jump start and is currently in 7th.
-----------------
Coming into the final part of the race and strategy is definitely a problem for some teams. Gerald Burgess seems to be having problems on a 4 stop and may have to make a late stop onto a set of softs. Meanwhile Kylee Lindenmuth seems to be doing o.k up top but Marco Andretti is once again closing the gap.

Kylee Lindenmuth wins at the Osterreichring!

Kylee Lindenmuth was able to comfortably hold off Marco Andretti who finished second.
Strategy was key in the race and Gerald Burgess lost out after looking favourite for a podium. He finished 6th after struggling with worn tires at the end of the race and having to make an extra stop. The race however ended in anticlimax as a safety car was bought out following a heavy crash involving Perez and H.M Martinez as the latter tried to pass round the outside through turn 5.
That meant Mitch Sampson finished third and Carlo Verstappen fourth

Mathieya Macmillan drove a brilliant 3 stop race to finish fifth with Tommy Handlos seventh after a drive through penalty for a jump start.
Alberto Rossini finished eighth with his teammate close behind and slightly aggrieved after he had to fight past despite being on fresher tires.
Jun Mai took the final point in tenth with Justin Harlow narrowly missing out.

Jack Jakino was last of the finishers in twelfth.

1: Kylee Lindenmuth 25pts
2: Marco Andretti 18pts
3: Mitch Sampson 15pts
4: Carlo Verstappen 12pts
5: Mathieya Macmillan 10pts
6: Gerald Burgess 8pts
7: Tommy Handlos 6pts
8: Alberto Rossini 4pts
9: André Bernado 2pts
10: Jun Mai 1pt

11: Justin Harlow
12: Jack Jakino
13: H.M Martinez DNF-crash lap 64
14: Guido Perez DNF-crash lap 64
15: Winslow Little DNF-brake failure lap 37
16: Kha Mervin DNF- gearbox problem lap 20

First qualifying is underway!

Kha Mervin is fastest in Q1:
Kha Mervin, not happy with his position near the drop zone, bolts on a set of soft tires and does an absolute stunner with brilliant late breaking and aggressive use of the kerbs.

1: Kha Mervin (s)
2: Gerald Burgess (h)
3: Kylee Lindenmuth (h)
4: André Bernado (h)
5: Marco Andretti (h)
6: Guido Perez (s)
7: Jun Mai (s)
8: Carlo Verstappen (h)
9: Tommy Handlos (h)
10: Mathieya Macmillan (s)
11: Alberto Rossini (h)
12: H.M Martinez(s)
------------------
13: Jack Jakino (s)
14: Winslow little (s)
15: Justin Harlow (s)
16: Mitch Sampson (h with engine power issue)

Q2 has since started
Everyone looks like the're going to come out on softs

Gerald Burgess is fastest in Q2!
A scrappy lap with a few lock-ups for Mervin puts him out, but it's a really cool lap by Macmillan and he knows it! Great stuff!

1: Gerald Burgess
2: Kylee Lindenmuth
3: Tommy Handlos
4: Marco Andretti
5: André Bernado
6: Carlo Verstappen
7: Alberto Rossini
8: Mathieya Macmillan
-----------------
9: Guido Perez
10: Jun Mai
11: Kha Mervin
12: H.M Martinez

The shootout is over and...

...Tommy Handlos is fastest and on pole with a brilliant lap. His teammate ends up third with Marco Andretti between them.
Burgess comfortably takes fourth with Lindenmuth fifth, Rossini sixth and Bernado seventh.

Macmillan doesn't bother setting a lap which could give him the edge in strategy tomorrow.

Carlo Verstappen wins at Monza!

Tommy Handlos might have been fastest, yesterday, but it was his teammate who just had the edge on the rest of the field with a late move on Marco Andretti after getting onto the softer compound with 13 laps to go. Verstappen made a DRS aided move down into turn one making his move stick on the inside of Curva grand.

Gerald Burgess was third with Tommy Handlos fourth after damaging his front wing in strange circumstances whilst overtaking a back marker with a puncture, a lump of rubber lodging itself in the end-plate and not shaking off until 10 laps later.

Rossini drove an excellent race to finish ahead of Kylee Lindenmuth in the more competitive Phoenix car.
Kha Mervin recovered from a poor qualifying to finish 7th as André Bernado beached himself in the gravel at the second lesmo whilst pushing on worn tires before his second stop and retired.

Mathieya Macmillan finished 8th with Jun Mai 9th tussling with his teammate Perez, but coming out on top. Jack Jakino took the final point for tenth, his debut in F1.

Winslow little will be frustrated having surrendered his tenth place, but he had no chance with poor traction out if the parabolica. He was twelfth with Justin Harlow thirteenth

H.M Martinez was fourteenth and last of the finishers.

1: Carlo Verstappen
2: Marco Andretti
3: Gerald Burgess
4: Tommy Handlos
5: Alberto Rossini
6: Kylee Lindenmuth
7: Kha Mervin

Qualifying report: Spa, the very scilly isles GP

A great lap by Gerald Burgess saw him take his first pole position of the Royal cup with home favourite, Carlo Verstappen a close second. Mitch Sampson took a solid third place with Tommy Handlos fourth. Marco Andretti was looking good through the first sector on his hot lap, but in the end, the pressure got to him and he made a few small mistakes dropping him to fifth.
Kylee Lindenmuth was sixth seemingly not getting as much out of the soft tires as his teammate with Alberto Rossini and André Bernado best of the rest.

Jun Mai was unlucky to miss out on the shootout, but showed promising signs of the mid-grid catching up with the top eight. He finished ahead of Kha Mervin and Guido Perez with Macmillan in twelfth.
Here's how they line up:

1: Gerald Burgess (1:48.218)
2: Carlo Verstappen (1:48.301)
3: Mitch Sampson (1:48.653)
4: Tommy Handlos (1:48.839)
5: Marco Andretti (1:48.896)
6: Kylee Lindenmuth (1:49.108)
7: Alberto Rossini (1:49.531)
8: André Bernado (1:49.599)

Mitch Sampson wins the Scilly Grand Prix!

Mitch Sampson made one of the moves of the competition to win at Spa with Gerald Burgess trying in vain to pass him at the end of the race.
Carlo Verstappen swapped positions with both his teammate and Kylee Lindenmuth, but eventually came home third with Handlos fourth and Andretti taking fifth as Lindenmuth spun into the wall on the exit of the rivage hairpin.
That meant Alberto Rossini finished sixth with his teammate Bernado seventh.

Mathieya Macmillan drove a charachteristically quiet race with people questioning how he had managed to finish as high as eighth. Jun Mai was a couple of seconds behind in ninth. Guido Perez took the final point.

H.M Martinez finished 11th with Kha Mervin 12th after running wide at the start and falling almost to the back of the grid.
Jack Jakino was 13th just finishing before Justin Harlow.
Winslow Little retired with a gearbox issue that had seemingly been plaguing him all weekend.

Practice results from London:

Marco Andretti finishes fastest in practice for the New Ecopian GP!

Marco Andretti set a benchmark for qualifying after narrowly beating Tommy Handlos and Gerald Burgess.
Haas F1, who bought a new aero package to the British capital, looked in fine form, but look to be contested by Scilly racing who seem to be carrying exceptional straight line speed, a useful asset around the brand new 3.5 mile track.
Mitch Sampson took fourth with Carlo Verstappen and André Bernado fifth and sixth. Kylee Lindenmuth struggled to get to grips with the circuit. This was highlighted by a lock up and spin which ended with the Pheonix driver beached on the curb.

Full results:

1: Marco Andretti (1:43.381)
2: Tommy Handlos (1:43.403)
3: Gerald Burgess (1:43.698)
4: Mitch Sampson (1:44.129)
5: Carlo Verstappen (1:44.524)
6: André Bernado (1:44.700)
7: Alberto Rossini (1:44.738)
8: Kylee Lindenmuth (1:44.995)
9: Guido Perez (1:45.391)
10: Kha Mervin (1:45.586)
11: Winslow Little (1:45.826)
12: Jack Jakino (1:46.172)
13: Mathieya Macmillan (1:46.194)
14: Jun Mai (1:46.372)
15: Justin Harlow (1:46.555)

Q1 results:

Carlo Verstappen is fastest in the first qualifying session.

1: Carlo Verstappen
2: Gerald Burgess
3: Marco Andretti
4: Tommy Handlos
5: Kha Mervin
6: Mitch Sampson
7: Mathieya Macmillan
8: Kylee Lindenmuth
9: André Bernado
10: Guidi Perez
11: Jun Mai
12: Justin Harlow
---------------
13: Alberto Rossini
14: H.M Martinez
15: Winslow Little
16: Jack Jakino

Q2 has finished with Guido Perez putting in a cracking all to get into the top 8 for the first time in the cup. He takes up the place made available by the tyre miscalculation of Rossini.

1: Gerald Burgess
2: Tommy Handlos
3: Carlo Verstappen
4: Marco Andretti
5: Kylee Lindenmuth
6: Mitch Sampson
7: André Bernado
8: Guido Perez
------------
9: Kha Mervin
10: Jun Mai
11: Justin Harlow
12: Mathieya Macmillan

As expected, it's one of the Haas cars who takes pole, but it's by no means a convincing display. Carlo Verstappen was looking very close, but flicked his front wing on the wall at admiralty arch. That meant Marco Andretti was fastest with a 1:41.837 with Tommy Handlos second, +0.195 behind.
