Stvoto Latolisi Football - 12 July 4012

Gu Zhahogowdoo

Saturday, 7 July 4012
Goytowlishemei 3–1 Stvozhaboythumow

Sunday, 8 July 4012
Pkethat Hevnaje 3–1 Šešri’makaru
Juqha Zhaba 0–0 Sunbirds
Brewers 1–3 Vezhidrupa
Gerthamasa Boyseh 2–0 Cóiméid
Lobyuseistvooshu 3–1 Vortex

Goytow's 12th minute goal was a portent of things to come in the second half - Stvozhaboythumow equalized ten minutes later but they melted later, and Sunbirds failed to open up Juqha Zhaba's backline over the course of ninety minutes the next day, which meant that when Pkethat Hevnaje came from a goal down to defeat Šešri’makaru, the Red-Whites moved seven points clear at the top. Suddenly, after a dozen matchdays of tightness, Pool 1 is no longer even close. Over in the other pool, by contrast, Brewers' huge lead has withered away to a solitary point. Their disastrous home loss to Vezhidrupa, which, if it hadn't been the Chartreuse-Oranges playing, you could have seen coming given the All-Whites' sudden return to elite form. Lobyuseistvooshu couldn't pass up the opportunity, and didn't. Vortex were no match for the Red, Gray, and Chartreuse, and now Lobyu are well and truly embroiled in the title race. Finally, Gerthamasa Boyseh had captain Yachušechedra Wambukawo's left boot to thank for staying just ahead of Vezhidrupa in the table - the wingback's two penalties gave the Boys a critical win in Tobyumosyu. The result was worse for the Comets than it was good for the Purple-Greens, as now Teach Iarann's own have fallen to fifth.

Springtime is gone, and Air Force have well and truly fallen from their throne. Three days after a lethargic defeat to Goytowlishemei, Stvozha fired another blank against Turori's FC Almintora. Having made a mess of the home leg, the Brown-Blacks are in deep you-know-what now. The news was slightly better the next night, as Sunbirds crushed heavily favored Blau-Weiss Pallstadt in Buyan in a match that should have ended three-all (the Polarian officiating crew missing a fairly straightforward offsides infraction on the Blue-Whites' solitary goal), and Brewers lost to Fallen club Marylebone Invicta but not before securing two massive first half away goals. Finally, on Thursday night Šešri’makaru looked superlative as they ran riot in Super-Llamaland and have Maydale on the ropes.

But he was wrong. It was he who was the traitor, he the dictator, he the true tyrant. I returned to above the waves and presented the location of the merpeople's treasure to the dictator of Stvoto Latoli, who greedily took the coordinates without thanking me. As I leapt atop my broom, I could already hear the wailing of the merpeople from the depths; their last shred of dignity, the last remnant of their kingdom, their last symbol of hope; raped by the tyrannical humans.

Bei’thatho 0–2 Brewers

Sigh. Just when we thought things were starting to get shaken up in Gu Zhahogowdoo, all the sudden it's business as usual. Given their recent form, Pkethat Hevnaje were expected to grab a win in Tobyumosyu on the Navy base, but the Red-Whites conceded two goals within the first twenty minutes, and you can't do that against Hozastvu, because they will do exactly what they did on Saturday: park the bus and defend a lead. Meanwhile, Stvozhaboythumow got back to winning ways against Juqha Zhaba and nearly halved the gap between themselves and the new Pool 1 leaders. (Goytowlishemei defeated Šešri’makaru on the Zahuji Peninsula in an almost entirely meaningless game the next day, the third and final one in the first pool.) Over in the other one, it was the same: onrushing Lobyuseistvooshu were heavily favored to at least get a draw in Teach Iarannn but didn't even get that; Cóiméid's run of poor form may yet continue, but after Usama O'Bearga's 28th minute goal was questionably overruled for being offside, the Comets' 43rd minute goal seemed perfectly timed and home supporters could already taste the win in the air as they watched the demoralized Red, Gray, and Chartreuse leave the pitch for half time. The only really status quo results? Red-hot Vezhidrupa and unbeatable Brewers collected three points each - the former shellacked Gerthamasa Boyseh in Mahathu and the latter got goals early in each half to deflate even the most cursory suggestion of a Bei'thatho fightback.

The Brown-Blacks pulled a goal back from Almintora a half an hour into their away leg in Atlantian Oceania, but over the course of the match it became clear that the more Air Force pushed for the goal that would equalize the tie on aggregate, the shakier they would be at the back. Sure enough, Stvozha conceded twice, in the 64th and 69th minutes respectively, and those events sealed the Brown-Blacks' fate. Despite an inspiring run born from the lowly depths of Globe Cup qualifying, Stvozhaboythumow have failed to reach the competition's group stage at the penultimate hurdle. The next day, though (Wednesday), Brewers ensured that there would be at least one Stvoto Latolisi club in the Globe Cup qualifying phase, with Jabbar al Amri's 39th minute score and the Chartreuse-Oranges' valiant second-half defending guaranteeing Marylebone Invicta's elimination and Brewers' progression. Simultaneously, another large group of Muzira'a Ba'aydi football fans got good news as well - even better news, perhaps - dozens of thousands of Fahanians saw their beloved 'Birds lose, but not by enough to erase the Reds' improbable away leg victory. Blau-Weiss Pallstadt fulfilled the predictions of many by going right for the throat from the opening whistle, and the Sunbirds' keeper was soon screaming various obscenities at his back line on a per-minute basis. He allowed the Blue-Whites to bring the tie to three-two on aggregate in the 17th and then helplessly watched an equalizer float past in the 42nd, but Reds boss Mezhergoy Serthidi pulled a few masterful tricks out of his tactical hat and sent the 'Birds on attack in the second half. Khebi'ghašmeda Šedhigveda scored what in a single-legged tie would have been just a consolation goal, but in this context was a dramatic winner, in the 81st minute. For the first time, Stvoto Latoli can proudly boast that its champion club is headed to the group stage of the world's premier international club football tournament. Šešri’makaru followed suit the next day by obliterating FC Maydale, but the competition the Purple-Whites are entering is a bit less prestigious - last season's League 1 champions are headed for the SBCC group phase.

Stvoto Latolisi Football - 24 July 4012

Gu Zhahogowdoo

Saturday, 21 July 4012
Sunbirds 1–0 Stvozhaboythumow

Sunday, 22 July 4012
Goytowlishemei 1–2 Hozastvu
Juqha Zhaba 3–0 Šešri’makaru
Gerthamasa Boyseh 2–0 Bei’thatho
Lobyuseistvooshu 0–0 Vezhidrupa
Vortex 2–0 Cóiméid

Poor Juqha Zhaba. On the one day, the one day of the season when they might have had a chance to yank themselves out of the relegation zone, and it had to be the day that Hozastvu grabbed an uncharacteristic away win over the Vendors. The Mariners thrashed local rivals Šešri’makaru, too. If only Goytow could have pushed their four-game undefeated streak to five. But it wasn't to be, and now, with the Maroon-Reds possessing a game in hand, Juqha Zhaba are as good as relegated. (The day before, Sunbirds had defeated crisis club Air Force, making the weekend a bit of a disaster for Goytow as well, who now see a nightmarish gap between themselves and the Reds just growing and growing.) Meanwhile, having just barely scraped through the Globe Cup Playoff Round, leaders Brewers took a deserved weekend off, which meant that theoretically (underline theoretically) other Pool 2 teams could temporarily gain some ground. The only problem with that was that Cóiméid went back to their joke-tastic ways by brain farting against a Vortex side who looked as shocked to have won two-nil as anybody else, and in-form Vezhidrupa stole two points from previously in-form Lobyuseistvooshu (the All-Whites can thank Shyusoolootru Lyu for nearly a dozen world-class saves, about half of which were from elite right-winger Usama O'Bearga). The only real winners were Gerthamasa Boyseh, who in shakily beating Bei'thatho didn't really impress much from a footballing standpoint, but they did reclaim the third place spot they seemed to have lost for good after Matchday 15, and that could be critical for the Purple-Greens as their pool is essentially a lock to win the Schveningen and therefore send its teams to international competitions. Third place, and an accompanying Globe Cup qualification place, would be an absurdly good accomplishment for the little Irish club. Brewers still lead by three points, have a game in hand over their closest rivals, and can now rest a few legs as an international break arrives. The only caveat to that would be that it's the start of World Cup qualifying, and Brendan al Tameer is sure to call up a few big names from the Chartreuse-Oranges.

Stvoto Latolisi Football - 30 July 4012

World Cup 71 Qualifying - Group 6

Saturday, 28 July 4012
Carialus 2-0 Stvoto Latoli

After a cautious first forty-five minutes in which neither side really tested the other (leaving television match commentator Odhrán Gallagher saying "this has been like watching paint dry"), a more exciting second period awaited fans at Capital Field. Khadim Ismail's overcommitment during a Carialus sojourn in the Gold-Whites' half left wide open a lane for L'Hiver to feed the ball to the feet of Dumont, who easily scored. Brendan al Tameer did his best to shore things up and did minimize the damage, but there was nothing he, nor anybody else, could do about Muhammad abd al Raziq's astoundingly stupid challenge in the box in the 86th minute. The resulting penalty (which nobody except for abd al Raziq disputed) was converted by Kraus, who was ultimately name Player of the Match. It was a decisive victory for Carialus, to be sure, but the Golden Crows will feel that there were good things to take away, chiefly their defensive organization.

Stvoto Latolisi Football - 6 August 4012

World Cup 71 Qualifying - Group 6

Wednesday, 1 August 4012
Farfadillis 1-0 Stvoto Latoli

After a long journey by plane from Esportiva to Atlantian Oceania, the Golden Crows found a familiar face waiting for them: Polarian La Vherderoja manager Steffan Pekarik played several years at Pazhujebi club Urajbina, who arguably have only been going downhill since losing him (though followers of this space will know that the Yellow, Red, and Blue are in the midst of a dream year down in League 2 and look like they're likely to be promoted). Pekarik got the sort of result he openly admits he wishes he could get more regularly from his players, a dull one-nil result in which Farfadillis mostly played it safe and made sure the Gold-Whites could never mount any counterattacks.

Brewers 1–1 Gerthamasa Boyseh

Sunday, 5 August 4012
Šešri’makaru 0–3 Sunbirds
Hozastvu 1–1 Juqha Zhaba
Pkethat Hevnaje 2–1 Goytowlishemei
Vezhidrupa 4–1 Vortex
Bei’thatho 0–1 Lobyuseistvooshu

The Chartreuse-Oranges will be happy to have been the given the Saturday night match with the first match of their critical Globe Cup Qualifying Round tie coming in the midweek, but less than pleased with the result. It was clear that many of their players had been involved with the Gold-Whites during the international break, as Brewers looked more and more tired as the match wore on. Gerthamasa Boyseh found a 52nd minute equalizer and twisted the screw for the next 40 minutes - the home side barely clung to the draw. Lobyu won the next day, dealing the Pirates their fifteenth league loss in a row, and Vezhidrupa destroyed Vortex, drawing further ahead of Cóiméid. (The Comets, who had the weekend off, have a game in hand on the All-Whites and Purple-Greens, but are three points back and the Boys control the first tiebreaker. Things are starting to look bad for Teach Iarann's usually-overachieving club.) Pool 1! Not much new to report, aside from the fact that Sunbirds finally overtook Stvozhaboythumow in the table, which given how poor the Brown-Blacks have been lately, it's shocking that it hadn't happened earlier. Anyway, the 'Birds took their game in hand and used it, torching Šešri’makaru three nil, though they did not close the gap on the pool-leading Red-Whites, who nabbed a victory in Pkethat Hevnaje against opponents Goytowlishemei. The Vendors looks vastly improved in the center of the park, thanks in no smart part to Yttribian addition Jed Ewart (their previously shabby-looking defense looking a lot sturdier), but PH were just too good for them - their own addition, Cosumarite Ben Seppänen added some much-needed width and scored on his debut. (Seppänen offered arguably the strangest moment of the round by removing his shirt in his goal celebration; under his uniform he was wearing a T-shirt that read "MY NAME IS HARDCORE BURGER, FEAR ME." Fans and media are still trying to figure out what, aside from an eccentric way to earn a yellow card, it all meant.) Finally, Navy Club kept Juqha Zhaba and their arsenal of horrifyingly expensive attackers at bay, earning a draw to remain a comfortable three points away from the drop (Hozastvu have a game in hand, too).

Cygnus Cup Winners' Cup 33 Preliminary Round First Leg

Thursday, 9 August 4012
Image Sunbirds 1-0 Image TT The Owner Supports

Cruce Estrella took the lead in the 40th minute of their Globe Cup qualifier with the Chartreuse-Oranges, but Brewers pinned their ears back after half time. Zhetroyzheleigu Zowbowbyuthi toe-poked a loose ball past the Cross/Star goalkeeper after a string of corners to equalize. A one-all result would probably have kept Wahib al Khlaiwi and Brewers fans quite happy (especially after a few nervy moments between minutes 60 and 80), but lightning struck twice in the 92nd minute, as after Heji'šagheru Eji won a corner, al Khlaiwi threw the dice and pushed everyone forward. Red Blackiland's champions panicked - they'd worn the Chartreuse-Oranges out over the course of the previous half hour with end-to-end play and they were not expecting such an aggressive gamble. Teenager Myuserbaleisoy Yutri headed it home from a fair distance of ten yards and the few hundred away supporters who'd made the trip all went apeshit. With the home leg to come, Brewers are as good as through. Sunbirds got their result, too, though in slightly less dramatic fashion. Like Brewers, they had a lackluster first half, but unlike Brewers, they controlled the second half completely. Signs of frustration were beginning to show for the 'Birds until the 74th minute, when Tastvu Zhooheizhyu gorgeously trapped the ball with his back to goal, shrugged two Swordean defenders off his back, and angrily bashed a goal into the roof of the net. That was the Reds' only goal, but in keeping a clean sheet against TT The Owner Supports, they only needed the one. They can now head into the Cygnus Cup Preliminary Round second leg and go on the attack if they like - a style of play that suits them.

Cygnus Cup Winners' Cup 33 Round of 32 First Leg

Image Ticomaça Nacional 1-1 Image Sunbirds

Sunbirds' Cygnus Cup second leg was almost a total train wreck as they conceded to TT The Owner Supports in the second minute. The Swordean fans were loving it, and Mezhergoy Serthidi admitted in a post-match interview that the rest of the first half felt very cauldron-like. Things seemed to be going from bad to worse when the home side took a two goal lead in the 69th minute, but Reds captain Khebi'ghašmeda Šedhigveda was seen adamantly reminding teammates that one away goal would still see them through in a close-up TV shot. His pep talk worked, and in the 75th minute the new Northern Sunrisian acquisition Desmond McIrilain caught the Swordean keeper off his line scored a bending, dipping beauty from 48 yards. Two nights later, Brewers went about their boring business in Caisleán Luaith, locking up the center of the pitch and stifling the midfield play of a resigned-looking Cruce Estrella side. The 55th minute still saw ample celebrations when Satatu Bei lashed a free kick into the onion bag, but the goal itself was unnecessary. The Chartreuse-Oranges join Sunbirds and Šešri’makaru as UICA tournament group stage participants. Ticomaça Nacional were Sunbirds' next opponents in the Cygnus Cup, and on Thursday afternoon the 'Birds got off the plane in Omerica to the news that they'd got one of the easier draws they could have hoped for in the Champions' Cup; getting Bengtsmark IF, Barbury Town, and Mâ Âlâmëómë isn't so bad when you think that you might have gotten Ulsa, Yuba United, or East Franz Athletic. They seemed bouyed by the news, and made it one nil in the 20th minute when Audioslavian left back Txordin Iturrigatza tapped in an easy opener after a dope one-two with Pazhujebi teenager Dignušam Nuhu. Ticomaça Nacional drew level in the 53rd and controlled the second half, but they could not find a winner and Sunbirds will return to Fahan knowing a win or a nil-nil draw will put them in the Cygnus Cup Round of 16.

Cygnus Cup Winners' Cup 33 Round of 32 Second Leg

Sunday, 19 August 4012
Image Sunbirds 0-1 Image Ticomaça Nacional (AGG: 1-2)

Displaying composure and experience, Ticomaça Nacional shook off the horror show of their home leg and came to Muzira'a Ba'aydah with glints in their eyes. It took just five minutes for them to erase the away goal Txordin Iturrigatza had worked so hard to earn in Omerica, as Lucca Marini beat the Reds' offside trap thanks to some disastrous inattention from otherwise highly-acclaimed center back Vigean O'Blighe. After that, it could have been easy for Nacional to dig in and try to weather the 'Birds' offensive, but they knew better. Dominating possession for the rest of the match, it was clear to all in attendance in Fahan by about the 70 minute mark that the home side were out. While it would have been inconvenient for Sunbirds to be active in two international club competitions (the Champions' Cup group phase starts in a week and a half), and it is therefore easy to dismiss this elimination as "not too heartbreaking" (head coach Mezhergoy Serthidi's words), the players' brave faces in post-game press conferences belied their obvious disappointment.

Whoa, Nelly. "I Am Number One" is a phrase that changed hands this week. You can't always expect the fixture computer to spit out good nationally televised games, but this week the Tuesday nighter was a contest that could easily end up being the most important of the entire season, for any team. Lobyuseistvooshu grappled with Brewers in a six-pointer at the top of Pool 2, IE, the pool that will win the Schveningen and send its clubs to international competitions. Despite being at home, the Red, Gray, and Chartreuse were heavy underdogs; Brewers were very much the form side whereas Lobyu had been struggling mightily for form in the league. And, in fact, in the beginning it looked as though the bookies had gotten it right - the Chartreuse-Oranges dominated the play for the first twenty minutes, creating lots of chances despite facing the league's best defense. Domitianušam Zizhuchna had the Lobyu goalkeeper at his mercy and missed an absolute sitter, Satatu Bei almost found a repeat of his free kick goal versus Cruce Estrella seven days before but this time thunked it off the post, and striker Zuhair al Ghalib might have had an opportunity to take a shot but instead opted to flop after Zwangy newcomer Lilavati Kanwar's minor (and legal) tackle (the referee immediately told al Ghalib to stand up and quit rolling around, and al Ghalib himself seemed quite unsurprised to receive a yellow for simulation, having failed to persuade the official). But everything changed in minute 34. Jabbar al Amri's slick little lob ball over the top of the Lobyuseistvooshu back line gave Heji'šagheru Eji a breakaway goal... BUT... the sideline ref raised his flag, saying the veteran Red, Gray, and Chartreuse defender Shyusowterzu Toytazoyzhili had stepped up and trapped Eji just offside at the last second. Brewers were apoplectic. Zuhair al Ghalib began screaming at the referee, jumping up and down and tugging the official's shirt. Star midfielder Nataliaja Irmedheghi, knowing her teammate had already been cautioned, tried to come in and placate al Ghalib, but she was too late - al Ghalib saw red and the Chartreuse-Oranges were suddenly looking at playing the next hour with ten men. The home fans were loving it, of course, even more so after replays showed the linesman had in fact got the offside call right, barely. And yet, despite the odds shifting against them, Brewers remained the better side. Just before half time, Irmedheghi's slaloming dash inside was rewarded by an inch-perfect Jabbar al Amri through ball and only a suicidally brilliant goalkeeper rush threw her off and prevented a goal, and just after half time, Beolagh Athey's thunderbolt from 14 yards fizzed past the post when it should have hit the back of the net. And yet, the drama wasn't over yet. Lobyu's Muhammad abd al Raziq went in with two feet in a horror tackle that could have ended Eji's career, and the referee justly made it ten versus ten in the 69th minute. Brewers smelled blood. Athey's Houdini act in the 76th minute set him free of Toytazoyzhili's tight marking and his shot dribbled under the Red, Gray, and Chartreuse keeper's arms, but Kuaku Gheberihiq came screaming in to clear the ball off the line just in time, and Irmedheghi should have scored when Eji's shot was parried back to her head in the 86th, but she missed by inches. It seemed as though Lobyuseistvooshu were going to successfully wait it out for a goalless draw, and supporters at the Setoydyuma'shu Lobyuseistvooshu seemed to be sensing it, but, as television announcer Odhrán Gallagher said after the final whistle blew, "good things come to those who wait." In the fourth and final minute of stoppage time, Usama O'Bearga made a lovely standing tackle to dispossess Zizhuchna on the right flank and looked up to see Mareibatian newcomer Ajax Elk streaking down the pitch on the far touchline. An early, spectacular, pacy, and accurate cross was the only thing that would do, but O'Bearga showed why he's the best assist-provider in Gu Zhahogowdoo and provided it. Elk's first touch was immaculate, leaving a clearly-devastated Bowzhibowzowzhoy Thoymyugu stranded, and his finish lit off a goal celebration never to this day witnessed in Maritime Empire history. Stvoto Latolisi civil engineers responsible for the maintenance of Tobyumosyu, the raft city in which the Lobyuseistvooshu Market District is based reported days after the match that there were serious concerns that the eardrum-piercing noise the raucous fans made after the goal had jeopardized key structural elements in the rafts beneath the huge stone stadium. Shell-shocked players in white with orange and chartreuse trim lay physically exhausted and emotionally shattered on the pitch as all manner of different fan-produced missiles rained down around them, because they knew what we all knew: the league, once solidly in Brewers' clutches, had suddenly been blown wide open. Luckily for them, though, they have a game in hand and on the weekend they get to go back home and play against... VORTEX?! Holy shit, call the fire department! You know that the Swirls will be looking to rub salt in this their arch-enemies' very, very fresh wound, and given that the last two matches between the two Caisleán Luaith sides nearly started a civil war, this next one will have this author checking his bloody fallout shelter! Oh, right, the next night happened too. What a shame it was that so many great games took place on Wednesday night as well, but they were so vastly overshadowed by the ruckus of the previous evening that they don't even bear mentioning. Well all right, we can mention them. Sunbirds, Stvozha, and Vortex slaughtered Hozastvu, Šešri’makaru, and Bei'thatho respectively, each by four-goal margins, and Pkethat Hevnaje and Vezhidrupa squeaked past Juqha Zhaba and Cóiméid respectively by a scoreline of two-one. All-Whites winger Numair al Farran's late winner over the Comets was especially thrilling.

What does one make of a team that concedes five goals and scores four over the course of one hundred and eighty minutes of football? Well, perhaps one might assume such a team was attack-minded but had an unstable defense? Since we're talking about Sunbirds, that's about right. But wait... those four scored were all in one match... and the five conceded were in the next. That is a bi-polar mood swing deserving of a new field of psychological study. But then again, the start of the Champions' Cup group stage is starting on Tuesday, and odds are good that the 'Birds would rather be destroyed at home now then on Tuesday versus Barbury Town. Dignušam Nuhu will possibly have got himself squarely on Mezhergoy Serthidi's shit list after his first half red card (which undoubtedly had a bearing on the lopsided final score), but the youngster's recent call-up to the national team for World Cup 71 qualifying may have unsettled him, so perhaps let's give him a pass. (Also, let's not take anything away from Pkethat Hevnaje, nor from Chidi Ya and his hat trick.) The next afternoon, Stvozha killed Hozastvu for yet another Military Derby win (one that saw them jump back above the Reds in the table, to boot), Goytow and Juqha Zhaba bored every spectator in the whole city of Tobyumosyu half to death, Cóiméid finally managed to win (though against the Pirates... so... pretty unimpressive prey), and possibly unstoppable Lobyu trashed Gerthamasa Boyseh to stay on top of the league table. Finally, the Caisleán Luaith Derby was a tense affair, but crowd trouble was (thankfully) minimal and frankly the standard of officiating was dreadful - had one of the linesmen not been so unprofessionally trigger-happy the Chartreuse-Oranges would have won by at least a three-goal margin.

It was a mixed bag during the midweek for Stvoto Latolisi sides. Tuesday night was a great start, as two goals late in the second half stunned the Apoxian away fans into dead silence in Fahan... not that you could notice the quiet while thousands of Fahanians were doing permanent damage to their vocal chords. Gidedu Shegalo, looking like he had an axe to grind after being passed over by Brendan al Tameer for Gold-Whites selection, scored the prettier of the two Reds goals. The 90th minute clincher happened after Tastvu Zhooheizhyu nodded a ball down to Shegalo's feet - the latter stepped outside, then in, spun around a wild Balthorst challenge, and easily tapped it past Eustathios. It's crisis time for Barbury - Sunbirds are just thrilled to have any points at all. Two days later, Brewers looked limp in their lifeless one-all draw with South Coast United in the Globe Cup (but given that United were the better side perhaps we mustn't be too hard on the Chartreuse-Oranges), and Šešri’makaru's horrible year continued to be horrible as they were slaughtered by FC Tenacity in the SBCC.

Stvoto Latolisi Football - 4 September 4012

Gu Zhahogowdoo

Cóiméid 2–2 Brewers
Vezhidrupa 3–0 Bei’thatho

More league lethargy on display in Fahan, where the Reds were held to a point by Goytow. Their attack seemed to function well, but the 'Birds defense, incredible on Tuesday against Barbury Town, conceded twice. Sunbirds might be grateful, therefore, that Stvozhaboythumow fell to Pkethat Hevnaje the next afternoon. The Brown-Blacks were facing perhaps their last chance to fight back into the Pool 1 title race, their final home game against the Red-Whites, but from the opening kickoff it was clear they just didn't have it in them. Mental strength, other Gu Zhahogowdoo managers must surely be noting, one by one, is apparently a liability in Air Force boss Gyamfua Zahuzh's teams. Over in Pool 2, it looks as though intense races will develop in several places: most notably, of course, Brewers and Lobyuseistvooshu are gearing up for the final quarter of the top flight's first phase separated by a single point. The Chartreuse-Oranges began the year looking like they were completely unstoppable, unbeaten for weeks and weeks, but the Red, Gray, and Chartreuse have proven resilient, their consistent play vaulting them now to the front of the back. The latter side didn't play today, but they did watch (and celebrate) Cóiméid's courageous draw in Teach Iarann against the former. Since Lobyu shocked them a week and a half ago, Brewers have looked stunned at best. They must shake themselves out of it as it is now autumn and time is running out. The Comets, for their part, needed the result badly, and that they did was a minor miracle given Vaughan O'Coilligh's sending off in the 73rd minute. Cóiméid had equalized for the second time ten minutes before, but had to hang on for dear life as Irmedheghi and Co. dominated possession in the match's final minutes. They are themselves slugging it out, racing with Gerthamasa Boyseh for fourth place in Pool 2, a position which almost certainly will be worth a trip to the Globe Cup. Finally, Vezhidrupa's impressive flurry of penalties at the start of their contest against Bei'thatho ensured full pointage for the All-Whites, but the rest of the match was so boring fans were hissing with displeasure as their club left the pitch in Mahathu.

It was a horrific week for Stvoto Latolisi teams in international competition, as all three clubs went winless in group play. On Wednesday night, Sunbirds were rudely and abruptly brought down from cloud nine when Bengstmark beat the tar out of them in Buyan. BIF's blistering first half hour had them up three nil by half time, and on the tactical front, Mezhergoy Serthidi opted to simply shore up the back line and keep the scoreline from getting any worse. The Reds accepted their medicine knowing that they have an eminently winnable Zhahogowdoo match with minnows Juqha Zhaba to look forward to on the weekend. Brewers did manage to earn a draw against Estenia, but given that they were playing in Caisleán Luaith, Wahib al Khlaiwi could not contain his disappointment in a post-game media conference - he'd been hoping for a win. Finally, Šešri’makaru appear to have imported their horrific league form into the SBCC, as they've dropped two. National team goalkeeper Pachomiušam Ouachaburughu made a couple outrageous blunders during the match - the goal Ajax Carloburgo scored to make it two-nil was a result of Ouachaburughu's absolute howler.

Sunbirds 1–0 Juqha Zhaba

Šešri’makaru 3–4 Pkethat Hevnaje
Stvozhaboythumow 1–1 Goytowlishemei
Vezhidrupa 1–0 Brewers
Cóiméid 5–0 Gerthamasa Boyseh

Vortex threw a spanner in Lobyu's works by recovering from a two goal deficit to draw at home with the Red, Gray, and Chartreuse on Saturday night. The Whirls, who've had a pretty poor year given that they are in the Pool of Death, haven't had much to celebrate and this was a landmark result. Lobyuseistvooshu, for their part, knew that they had potentially allowed Brewers (who played the next day) to jump back to the front of the pack, and the look of dismay on Rumazhith Vhumi's face as he led his players off the pitch was unforgettable. Also that night, Sunbirds righted the ship in their tight one nil affair with Juqha Zhaba (the Mariners' defense almost spoiled the Reds' fun), temporarily throwing the 'Birds into second place. The next day, Pkethat Hevnaje barely won a seven-goal barnburner against Šešri’makaru and might have lost were it not for a couple more horrific howlers by ice-cold Pachomiušam Ouachaburughu (who might be dropped by long time Purple-Whites boss Ailin al Yusri if he doesn't get his act together fast), Goytow held Stvozhaboythumow to a draw on the Air Force base, which resulted in their official concession of Pool 1's second place spot to Sunbirds, Brewers collapsed in a crucial six-pointer against the white-hot All-Whites, thereby allowing Lobyu to stay top, and Cóiméid annihilated Gerthamasa Boyseh in Teach Iarann to reclaim fourth place at last. The Comets, who have been rather a mess all year, may now try to push on and secure a better Globe Cup place, knowing that they are out of the title race.

Stvoto Latolisi Football - 17 September 4012

Gu Zizhedoshoy Round of 16

Tuesday, 11 September 4012
Juqha Zhaba 1–2 Bijji

Wednesday, 12 September 4012
Stvozhaboythumow 3–3 Hozastvu (5–3 AET)
Vezhidrupa 4–0 Goytowlishemei
Shadows 0–1 Brewers

Thursday, 13 September 4012
Pkethat Hevnaje 1–0 Therakham
Al Ziya 0–0 Gerthamasa Boyseh (0–1 AET)
Mastverstveh 0–2 Sunbirds
Stvoyboystvei 0–1 Lobyuseistvooshu

The Round of 16 kicked off with the round's least prestigious but perhaps most heated fixture, as Gu Zhahogowdoo relegation-battlers Juqha Zhaba battled their League 1 mid-table-sitting cross-town arch-enemies Bijji. The Mariners drew the home fixture, but that appeared to be of little help to the Blue-Greens as their defense, so stern three days before versus Sunbirds, cracked under the pressure of the Badgers' forward thrusts. The Black-Whites, who theoretically are not out of the race for a Promotion Playoff spot just yet, will undoubtedly be hoping to draw a home game in the quarterfinals, as their opposition will be very tough at that juncture. The next day, another big rivalry played out as Stvozhaboythumow squared off with Hozastvu in another Military Derby. The fourth such Derby of 4012, Hozastvu registered their best performance yet, equalizing on the heavily-attcking Brown-Blacks no less than three times. But the Maroon-Reds were no match for Air Force in extra time, as Quinn Vail, who is having perhaps the season of his life, completed his hat-trick to ensure progression for his club. Simultaneously, unstoppable Vezhidrupa crushed an obviously outmatched Goytowlishemei, with the Vendors' new Yttribian purchase Jed Ewart predicting after the match that "those guys are going to catch Brewers and Lobyu and win the title," and Shadows felt hard done by as Brewers solitary goal (which replays showed was miles offside) put them out of the cup when they'd arguably been much the better side. On Thursday, Pkethat Hevnaje scraped past strong League 1 side Therakham, and Al Ziya (who are currently just behind Kileh Gulabhav for the automatic promotion spot) scared the living daylights out of Gerthamasa Boyseh on a frigid evening in Muzira’a Ba’aydah City before the Purple-Greens found an extra time free kick winner. Finally, Sunbirds seemed hardly troubled by League 2's Mastverstveh even though the match was in Tobumosyu, and Lobyu claimed another win in a one nil (how many times have they won by that margin this year?) against Stvoyboystvei. So, as we look ahead to the quarterfinals in three weeks' time, all of the bigs remain alive: Sunbirds, Brewers, Lobyuseistvooshu, Stvozhaboythumow, Vezhidrupa, and Pkethat Hevnaje, alongside two lucky outsiders in Bijji and Gerthamasa Boyseh. We know this much: at least a couple massive names will be sitting out the semifinal round.

Gu Zhahogowdoo

Saturday, 15 September 4012
Brewers 4–0 Bei’thatho

Sunday, 16 September 4012
Juqha Zhaba 1–2 Stvozhaboythumow
Goytowlishemei 1–0 Šešri’makaru
Pkethat Hevnaje 5–2 Hozastvu
Lobyuseistvooshu 1–3 Cóiméid
Gerthamasa Boyseh 1–2 Vezhidrupa

The nationally televised match of the top flight's 23rd matchday was perhaps the most mismatched game ever put on television in the Maritime Empire, as Zuhair al Ghalib scored all four goals and single-handedly battered a now-record-chasing Bei'thatho, who have lost all twenty of their matches thus far this season. That's right, twenty. No wins. Not even a draw or two. All losses, nineteen in the league and one in the cup, and the hapless Pirates have scored just four goals across all competitions in those twenty. There are five games left in the Zhahogowdoo first phase - do Bei'thatho have it in them to lose them, too? On to happier things... the next day, Stvozha dealt Juqha Zhaba a two-nil loss, the second straight result by that scoreline for the Mariners and the third straight loss by a one-goal margin. Champions of heartbreak, that bunch, not mention the fact that later in the day Hozastvu were massacred by Pkethat Hevnaje, meaning that Juqha Zhaba could have had a chance to work their way out of the relegation zone. And remind me how much money they spent on the apparently-already-unsettled strike duo of Beckert and Edwards? In closing, Ouachaburughu seemed to regain a smidgen of composure in a predictable one-nil loss to Goytow, Vezhidrupa provided the result the bookies projected in a two-one away victory over brave Gerthamasa Boyseh, and... what the... holy shit. You have got to be kidding me. Lobyuseistvooshu, newly appointed leaders of Pool 2 (and, by inference, the top flight), laid an egg in a catastrophic upset loss at home to Cóiméid. Take nothing away from Cóiméid - they played very well and no spectator was under any delusion that the Comets were somehow merely profiteering from a Lobyu choke - but still, the result has to be seen as three points dropped for the Red, Gray, and Chartreuse, who have now fallen to third (behind second-place Vezhidrupa on the first tiebreaker, wins). Once again, the title race has been blown wide open, only this time, it's a three-horse race, not just two.

The 'Birds will be mightily proud of their resiliency, as they pulled off what the national team hadn't been able to a month and a half before: obtain a result in Farfadillis. Desmond McIrilain's Player of the Match performance ought to have earned the attentions of Mihashi Chiyo, the defensive midfielder covered every blade of grass on the field. The home fans felt the better team had been robbed of the result they deserved, but they did seem to approve of the Reds' color scheme - likely out of patriotic sentiment. The next night, Brewers did everything right in their superb win over heavily-favored Gwinevra Barbarians. The Chartreuse-Oranges marched right down the pitch, had a few pops at Seabrooke, and won a corner. After Yutri nodded the ball down to Zowbowbyuthi's feet, the hulking, stocky mass of a Stvoto Latolisi man showed surprising technique in his side footed goal from seven yards. The Reds doubled their advantage just before half time (perfect time to do it, amirite?) after Irmedheghi's tricky dribble forced Mata to slice her down inside the eighteen and Athey put the resulting penalty away, and though Barbarians halved the deficit on the 70 minute mark, Wahib al Khlaiwi's men (and woman) were effective at suffocating the game's pace and wasting time. Finally, the Purple-Whites defeated slumping Red Wave Starblaydi in Felix in a one-nil shocker to all but erase their troubled start to group play. All in all, a fantastic week for the Maritime Empire's clubs in the UICA tournaments.

Cóiméid 2–2 Vortex

Air Force went into their home match against Sunbirds hoping to catch the defending champions in an exhausted state given the fixture congestion they've had lately on account of their presence in the Champions' Cup, but things didn't quite go to plan for the Brown-Blacks. The Reds' defense, which has shown vast improvement between 4011 and 4012, once again shut the door and got a result which offers them the chance to pass Stvozha in the table with their game in hand. On Sunday afternoon, Goytow nearly stole three points on the Navy base, with Jed Ewart scoring a real peach on a bending strike from the edge of the area, but the Vendors' dreams were scuppered after their goalkeeper offered up a real clanger. The Maroon-Reds took their chance and equalized on 87 minutes. They needed the result, as well, because in a simultaneously played game, Juqha Zhaba destroyed Šešri’makaru in Šešri’makaru. The Mariners are still desperately hoping to climb away from the relegation zone. They're currently only three points behind Hozastvu, but the Navy Club have a game in hand. Gerthamasa Boyseh effortlessly brought Bei'thatho one matchday closer to finishing the First Phase with twenty-four losses in twenty-four games, Lobyuseistvooshu's once upright ship seems to be taking on water very fast as they were completely outclassed by the All-Whites in Mahathu, and Cóiméid, in their home encounter with Vortex, dropped points they might ultimately regret dropping, though in fairness they were down two nil at one point and came back to save at least the one point.

Previously crisis mode teams Barbury Town and Mâ Âlâmëómë nabbed crucial victories on Tuesday night. Sunbirds, who haven't benefited from a Tastvu Zhooheizhyu goal since late August, must be starting to worry about their number nine's confidence. Dignušam Nuhu is just a teenager, they can't expect him to do it all on his own. In the Globe Cup, Brewers got a pretty good result in Apox to remain unbeaten in Group E, but they'll feel rather disappointed nonetheless - the Chartreuse-Oranges led Gwinevra Barbarians two goals to one in the 81st minute until Thoymyugu chopped down Shizuka in a one-on-one situation. It was, therefore, a straight red on the Brewers keeper, and Shizuka took the penalty and scored. Finally, Šešri’makaru took all the possibility that they'd earned a week before by beating Red Wave Starblaydi in Felix and dumped it in a big old trash bin, as being at home was no help at all in their miserable loss to the same side. The contest could have been closer, but more flapping around on set pieces from the Purple-Whites' goalkeeper meant Red Wave collected a couple easy goals in the first half. How Pachomiušam Ouachaburughu is still getting called up for the national team is a mystery.

Stvoto Latolisi Football - 4 October 4012

Saturday, 29 September 4012
Goytowlishemei 4–0 Pkethat Hevnaje

Sunbirds 2–0 Šešri’makaru

Lobyuseistvooshu 1–1 Bei’thatho
Gerthamasa Boyseh 2–1 Brewers

On the morning of June the 7th, 4012, Stvoto Latolisi calendar, Vezhidrupa had won three games, drawn two, and lost five. That was almost four months ago. Since then, the All-Whites have been unbeaten in all competitions - and in that unbeaten run they drew once. The North Mahathans' super summer erased the club's horrendous start, and now the All-Whites stand on the precipice of their second Zhahogowdoo championship, after they predictably beat Vortex and Gerthamasa Boyseh upset Brewers. Goytowlishemei reopened the distance between themselves and Hozastvu by shocking Pkethat Hevnaje in a four nil rout in which in-from Jed Ewart scored a brace while the Maroon-Reds fell to the possibly-surging Mariners in a game that could have critical implications on the relegation race. Finally, Sunbirds took out Šešri’makaru to obtain their first win in two and a half weeks and Bei'thatho avoided a twenty-four-loss First Phase by earning a dull one-all draw at Lobyuseistvooshu, who are even further out of the title race now than Brewers are - they don't have the Chartreuse-Oranges' game in hand.

Gu Zizhedoshoy Quarterfinals

Tuesday, 2 October 4012
Bijji 0–4 Stvozhaboythumow
Vezhidrupa 2–0 Pkethat Hevnaje

Wednesday, 3 October 4012
Gerthamasa Boyseh 1–1 Sunbirds (3–1 AET)
Lobyuseistvooshu 1–1 Brewers (1–2 AET)

The Badgers managed to keep their quarterfinal in Fajr close until the Brown-Blacks' second half blitzkrieg destroyed any hope of progression, Vezhidrupa's unstoppable march toward a possible double continued Jawara Hunupamrhu scored once with each foot in each half and Pkethat Hevnaje seemed to expect that they would have no chance, Gerthamasa Boyseh pulled off their second upset in four days as Yachušechedra Wambukawo's 2nd minute penalty set the stage for what, after two hours of play, would be a decisive three one win, and dumbstruck Brewers summoned the strength to see off even-more-dumbstruck Lobyuseistvooshu in extra time on the back of Nataliaja Irmedheghi's brace, her first of the year. Now there are four left. Stvozhaboythumow, kings of the spring but underachievers since, are still in with a chance to win some silverware, big dogs Brewers would love to win the cup for the first time and should have a good shot, Vezhidrupa, in current form, are the bookies' favorites, and outsiders Gerthamasa Boyseh, who probably won't sneak into the Globe Cup like they would have liked to, are the team the other three all want to draw in the semifinal.

Stvoto Latolisi Football - 11 October 4012

Gu Zhahogowdoo

Saturday, 6 October 4012
Hozastvu 2–3 Sunbirds

Sunday, 7 October 4012
Pkethat Hevnaje 4–1 Juqha Zhaba
Šešri’makaru 0–1 Stvozhaboythumow
Brewers 2–0 Lobyuseistvooshu
Bei’thatho 1–2 Vortex
Vezhidrupa 4–0 Cóiméid

The Navy Club put up a great fight, Órlaith Tilley giving the Maroon-Reds a lead twice in their Saturday night marquee special with Sunbirds, but the technically-still-defending-champions were not to be trifled with. Dignušam Nuhu's late winner to seal the three-two Reds win was a superb beauty - a product of some tricky dribbling and a technically sublime shot. The next day, PH, who have very little to play for since they've already sealed their probably-meaningless Pool 1 championship, still brought the heat in a fierce demolition of Juqha Zhaba, who gambled in favor of attack in an attempt to pull ahead of Hozastvu for fifth place (and safety from the drop) but were only rewarded with a Lars Beckert penalty and four goals in their own net, Stvozha nervously stumbled through their away win over the Purple-Whites, and two teams that had just played midweek in the cup saw a replication of the same result, albeit at the opposite venue: Wahib al Khlaiwi and his Chartreuse-Oranges were aggressive and opportunistic, winning the tactical battle over Rumazhith Vhumi's conservative Lobyu, who clearly were playing for the draw. Finally, Vortex restarted Bei'thatho's spectacular losing streak in Tobyumosyu and the All-Whites, who surely must be champions (though they haven't officially clinched yet, neither through the First Phase nor the Schveningen), obliterated hapless Cóiméid. The Comets, who have now made a mess of their game in hand, are now embroiled in a death match for UICA play with Gerthamasa Boyseh. The Red-Blacks are a point ahead of the Purple-Greens, but the Boys currently hold the first tiebreaker: number of wins.

Sunbirds' lethargic autumn appears to have sunk their chances of progression in the Champions' Cup, as a confident Barbury Town flew out the traps at Village Green and were up by the 6th minute on the back of a Curio score. Ken Rickwright's side never looked like conceding after that, passing the 'Birds off the park for the next hour and a half. The win turned out to be a critical one for Barbury, who without this result would have fallen below a surging Mâ Âlâmëómë, the Farf club have gone from bottom-of-the-group irrelevance to just a couple points off the leaders with two massive road victories. Meanwhile in the less prestigious UICA competitions, other Stvoto Latolisi teams are faring no better: Brewers capitulated to South Coast United in Caisleán Luaith and Šešri’makaru could only watch helplessly as Pachomiušam Ouachaburughu choked again and cost them the win over Tenacity.

Stvoto Latolisi Football - 16 October 4012

Gu Zhahogowdoo

Sunday, 14 October 4012
Stvozhaboythumow 1–0 Hozastvu
Sunbirds 2–1 Pkethat Hevnaje
Juqha Zhaba 0–2 Goytowlishemei
Cóiméid 3–0 Bei’thatho
Vortex 1–1 Brewers
Lobyuseistvooshu 1–0 Gerthamasa Boyseh

All the weekend's matches were played simultaneously since this is the penultimate matchday of the First Phase, but we shall start our discussion with Pool 1. Sunbirds and Pkethat Hevnaje squared off in a great (but meaningless) match that featured ample attacking football and ended with a furious Reds comeback in the last ten minutes (and Sunbirds must feel good about that given their recent elimination from both the Champions' Cup and the third place spot that might have directed them into the Globe Cup), Stvozha scraped past Hozastvu in a dull Military Derby that was so meaningless the rival fans even seemed a little amicable with each other (lol wut), and Goytow, who already know they'll be finishing fourth in the pool (and, by inference, eleventh in the league), formally guaranteed the Mariners would finish in the bottom two in a meaningless game in Fajr. See how often we used the word 'meaningless' in there? Yeah. That's what happens when you use this stupid Schveningen Phase system that we can't get rid of quickly enough. Thank the Jeebus that we'll be switching over to a regular home-and-away league format next season. Finally, over in the pool that actually matters, the weekend belonged to Vezhidrupa even though it was their bye day. You see, Brewers were five points back from the All-Whites at the start of the weekend, and had a game in hand, so there was an opening for them to exploit. But payback's a bitch, and a determined Vortex, victims of three Brewers wins previously in the year, and hated cross-town enemies of the Chartreuse-Oranges, played out a tactical master-class in negative football under the devious instructions of manager Aru Šejadh. After stifling the match for seventy-five minutes and keeping things nil-nil, frustrating the orange dye off Brewers' uniforms, the Whirls managed to win a cheap free kick after their left winger cut inside and then dived at the top of the area. The referee fell for it, despite a storm of protest from Wahib al Khlaiwi and company, and then, to add insult to injury, allowed Vortex to take the free kick before Brewers were set to defend the set piece. The Vortex striker banged one into the back of the net while Thoymyugu was standing around, sending the orange-clad supporters in one corner of the stadium into apoplectic fits of rage. A mental lapse in defense literally seconds later allowed the Chartreuse-Oranges to equalize, but the damage was done: the one-all draw means Brewers can no longer hope to catch the All-Whites - the Gu Zhahogowdoo trophy will be returning to Mahathu. Oh, and that fourth place battle is over, too, by the way; the Comets torched Bei'thatho in an easy match at home, and considering Lobyu's narrow simultaneous defeat of Gerthamasa Boyseh (which featured a Kuaku Gheberihiq screamer from thirty yards), Cóiméid have sneaked back into the UICA competitions after a year when they really weren't at their best. This, of course, is all assuming that Pool 2 will be victorious in the Schveningen (it will be), but technically the games haven't been played yet so we're not officially allowed to say that Vezhidrupa, Brewers, Lobyuseistvooshu, and Cóiméid will represent Stvoto Latoli in the international tournaments (they will).

The 'Birds managed to successfully screw up Bengstmark's bid for a better seeding in the Champions' Cup Round of Sixteen draw, but that was all they could manage for a parting blow. Vigean O'Blighe proved why he's a serious danger from set pieces by heading in a goal in first half stoppage time off a corner kick, however, Bengstmark brushed this off and equalized shortly after the half time restart. Down in the Globe Cup, Brewers failed as well, though unlike the Reds, they hadn't been eliminated yet - Levadia Narkiv's close-run victory over the Chartreuse-Oranges would have stung less if Gwinevra Barbarians hadn't clobbered South Coast United, after all, a Brewers win would have put them through to the Round of 32. Finally, abject Šešri’makaru seems surprised at themselves in limiting Ajax Carloburgo to just two goals - ironically, they owe part of that to Ouachaburughu's right fist (he saved a penalty); the Pazhujebi goalkeeper has had such a horrible SBCC group stage that it's a wonder he hasn't been dropped yet. With that, no Stvoto Latolisi sides are left in UICA play. We look ahead to the weekend to see which teams will be going international next season.

Gu Zhahogowdoo

Sunday, 21 October 4012
Goytowlishemei 1–1 Sunbirds
Pkethat Hevnaje 3–1 Stvozhaboythumow
Hozastvu 2–0 Šešri’makaru
Gerthamasa Boyseh 0–3 Vortex
Brewers 2–1 Cóiméid
Bei’thatho 0–1 Vezhidrupa

Essentially everything in the First Phase was settled after last weekend's events, aside from Pool 1's meaningless second place race: Sunbirds collected their second one-all draw of the week by rescuing a point against Goytowlishemei (who, PS, have played really well over the last few months and they haven't really gotten any credit for it), and that was enough to give them the place that should ultimately translate to a ninth-place finish in the overall league table. But they could have lost it - Stvozhaboythumow were within touching distance of the Reds. Luckily for Fahanians, the Brown-Blacks were simply outclassed by Pkethat Hevnaje on Fajr Island, and Air Force will have to settle for tenth. That classification is a bit unfair to Stvozha, who started the season in such brilliant form but wilted under the summer sun. Brewers coasted to victory over Muzira'a Ba'aydi rivals Cóiméid on the back of an unusual defender's brace from Nanašimudh Kourouma, though of course the Chartreuse-Oranges had already been knocked out of the title race and the Comets had already clinched fourth place. Finally, Vezhidrupa put Bei'thatho to the sword for the fourth time all year; the All-Whites were crowned presumptive champions last week, so the match was only of symbolic significance. But credit must be given where it's due. Vezhidrupa were in fifth place in Pool 2 on the morning of 7 June 4012, and appeared to be lurching into the worse season in their history. Yet here they stand today, soon to be champions after a ridiculous eighteen-game unbeaten run in all competitions. And they were playing in the Pool of Death, to boot. Amazing. We now look forward to the Schveningen Phase - the last in Gu Zhahogowdoo history. As we mentioned at the beginning of the 4012 season, Pool 2 is heavily, heavily favored over Pool 1. With Vezhidrupa, Brewers, Lobyu, and Cóiméid (not to mention a Gerthamasa Boyseh side that once again has surpassed expectations and, we shouldn't forget, is still alive in Gu Zizhedoshoy) in Pool 2, Pool 1 will need nothing short of a miracle to win. If, by some godmodded twist of fate, Pool 1 should win, Pkethat Hevnaje would go to the Champions' Cup, and Sunbirds, Stvozhaboythumow, and Goytowlishemei would enter the Globe Cup (that won't happen, though).

Stvoto Latolisi Football - 29 October 4012

Gu Zhahogowdoo - Scheveningen Phase

KEY: Teams highlighted in gold are from Pool 1, teams highlighted in blue are from Pool 2

Tuesday, 23 October 4012
Lobyuseistvooshu 4–0 Juqha Zhaba

Wednesday, 24 October 4012
Hozastvu 1–1 Brewers
Sunbirds 0–1 Cóiméid
Goytowlishemei 3–1 Bei’thatho
Stvozhaboythumow 1–2 Vezhidrupa
Gerthamasa Boyseh 2–0 Šešri’makaru
Vortex 0–1 Pkethat Hevnaje

Well, it's already gone to hell in a handbasket for Pool 1. Not like we were expecting anything else, mind you. It didn't take a brain surgeon to know that Lobyu would destroy Juqha Zhaba on Saturday night to open the Second Phase. But the next afternoon really bludgeoned the truth into our faces. In three mostly evenly matched games, Pool 2 sides were dominant: Cup hopefuls Gerthamasa Boyseh made quick work of Šešri’makaru at home, elated Sunbirds archrivals Cóiméid poached a victory in Fahan, and the All-Whites, assumed-champions-to-be, played a bit poorly on the Air Force base but still held off a late Brown-Blacks charge. (You know what they say: pretenders win when they're playing well, contenders win when they're playing poorly.) The slight silver lining for Pool 1 is that a rickety-looking Hozastvu managed to hang onto their one-all result against the Chartreuse-Oranges, a mild surprise. And of course Goytowlishemei and Pkethat Hevnaje beat Bei'thatho and Vortex respectively, but the caveat to that, of course, is that the latter two sides are terrible and wins for the Vendors and the Red-Whites were expected.

Pool 1 PTS 7
Pool 2 PTS 13

Saturday, 27 October 4012
Vezhidrupa 1–0 Goytowlishemei

Sunday, 28 October 4012
Stvozhaboythumow 1–2 Gerthamasa Boyseh
Šešri’makaru 0–2 Lobyuseistvooshu
Cóiméid 6–1 Hozastvu
Bei’thatho 0–2 Sunbirds
Juqha Zhaba 3–1 Vortex
Brewers 1–1 Pkethat Hevnaje

More crappy news for Pool 1 as we complete the first weekend matches of the Scheveningen Phase. Pool 2 swept the one Saturday night and two Sunday afternoon matches, the latter two being on the first pool's home soil. (Gerthamasa Boyseh's staunch second-half defending to deaden the once-feared Air Force strike force, in particular, was a crippling blow.) That night, Pool 1 was slightly more successful, as possible-Pool-2-weak-link Brewers dropped another two points, this time at home to Pkethat Hevnaje, and Sunbirds and Juqha Zhaba won three points each for defeating Bei'thatho and Vortex, but none of these results can truly be considered a substantive break of serve, and Cóiméid's ruthless and total obliteration of Hozastvu (in which both Fearghal Quilligan and Gibimizhoy Shoodow pulled off hat tricks) serves as a grim reminder to the rest of the first group that they are facing a nearly impossible task versus a collection of juggernauts. It's David against Goliath, essentially, but David doesn't have his slingshot, and he's already wounded. We knew this was coming.

Pool 1 PTS 14
Pool 2 PTS 26

Stvoto Latolisi Football - 15 November 4012

Gu Zhahogowdoo - Scheveningen Phase

KEY: Teams highlighted in gold are from Pool 1, teams highlighted in blue are from Pool 2

Saturday, 10 November 4012
Hozastvu 2–1 Bei’thatho
Goytowlishemei 1–2 Gerthamasa Boyseh
Pkethat Hevnaje 2–4 Cóiméid

Sunday, 11 November 4012
Sunbirds 2–1 Vezhidrupa
Lobyuseistvooshu 3–0 Stvozhaboythumow
Vortex 3–2 Šešri’makaru
Brewers 1–0 Juqha Zhaba

Pool 1's slow bleed continues. It appears that there are fairly short odds on there being a seventh Scheveningen matchday, but that does not somehow indicate that Pool 2 are any less guaranteed to win the Second Phase. Bei'thatho, of course, lost again, so that's three points for the first group, and there were three more the next day when Sunbirds nabbed a hard fought win in Fahan versus probable champions-to-be Vezhidrupa, but Cóiméid and Gerthamasa Boyseh won on the road on Saturday and Lobyu, Vortex, and Brewers all won at home the next day. It shouldn't be this close, really. The All-Whites, we imagine, are already scouting the league champions of other nations.

Pool 1 PTS 20
Pool 2 PTS 41

Tuesday, 13 November 4012
Bei’thatho 2–3 Pkethat Hevnaje

Wednesday, 14 November 4012
Vezhidrupa 1–2 Hozastvu
Gerthamasa Boyseh 1–1 Sunbirds
Goytowlishemei 1–4 Lobyuseistvooshu
Stvozhaboythumow 1–1 Vortex
Šešri’makaru 1–4 Brewers
Cóiméid 1–0 Juqha Zhaba

Bei'thatho almost got a result on Tuesday night after being in the lead twice, but Pkethat Hevnaje refused to go quietly and ultimately got three points desperately needed for their pool. It does not appear that pulling the Pirates out of Pool 2 has made them a better side in comparison to weaker opposition, making their survival this season all the more insulting. Well, they'll go down in 4013, we know that. The next night, the Navy Club outplayed the All-Whites in the second half, handing the first group another three points, and the product of two draws from Gerthamasa Boyseh-Sunbirds and Stvozha-Vortex limited the damage. However, it's simply still not good enough, as was exemplified by the Market Derby, where the Red, Gray, and Chartreuse had already kicked the crap out of their enemies, the Vendors, by the ten minute mark. Doran Palmer scored in the 2nd, Shyusowterzu Toytazoyzhili in the 5th, Lilavati Kanwar in the 8th, and Leagh Gilmore threw another one in for good measure in the 58th. The Scheveningen is practically over. Pool 1 has run out of time. If the next weekend's results don't go the first pool's way, they'll need a clean sweep over the last two matchdays of the phase, and the odds of that happening are worse than Bei'thatho beating Dwile Warriors six nil in Apox, I.E. it won't happen.

Pool 1 PTS 28
Pool 2 PTS 52

I returned to above the waves and presented the location of the merpeople's treasure to the dictator of Stvoto Latoli, who greedily took the coordinates without thanking me. As I leapt atop my broom, I could already hear the wailing of the merpeople from the depths; their last shred of dignity, the last remnant of their kingdom, their last symbol of hope; raped by the tyrannical humans.

Stvoto Latolisi Football - 21 November 4012

Gu Zhahogowdoo - Scheveningen Phase

KEY: Teams highlighted in gold are from Pool 1, teams highlighted in blue are from Pool 2

Saturday, 17 November 4012
Sunbirds 1–1 Lobyuseistvooshu

Sunday, 18 November 4012
Hozastvu 0–1 Gerthamasa Boyseh
Vortex 1–3 Goytowlishemei
Brewers 3–1 Stvozhaboythumow
Cóiméid 2–0 Šešri’makaru
Juqha Zhaba 2–0 Bei’thatho
Pkethat Hevnaje 1–1 Vezhidrupa

We now stand at the precipice. Barring some kind of astounding miracle, Pool 2 will win the last-ever Schveningen and end the 4012 edition of the top flight. The second group is twenty-seven points ahead - at this stage, with fourteen matches left, forty-two points would be required to clinch, but in one week's time, that number will lower to twenty-one, and that means that Pool 1 must win two more matches than Pool 2 on Scheveningen Matchday Six to stay alive, and that is unlikely. But one interesting little thing in closing: Vezhidrupa have lost twice during this phase, and this weekend could only obtain a draw against the stubborn Red-Whites in Pkethat Hevnaje, while the rest of Pool 2's top five teams are all unbeaten and have a combined goal difference of +33 in the Second Stage. Remember, once this season ends, we switch over to a normal home-and-away league format. The performance of the new champions in this late stage surely indicates that next year's title race will be every bit as close as this one's. And who knows? Maybe Kileh Gulabhav will be part of it. The pink-and-white-clad club from the west coast of Mahathu Island have clinched the automatic promotion place in the TSLB League 1. Three more clubs will follow, but they will come from the Promotion Playoff system, in which there are still eight places up for grabs.

Gerthamasa Boyseh 1–0 Pkethat Hevnaje

Well, would you look at that? Horrific, horrendous, no-talent, no-enthusiasm, crap-o-rific Bei'thatho won their first game of the year in all competitions, and it ended up helping to make this weekend the final matchday of the year in Gu Zhahogowdoo. Pool 2 needed to win as many games as Pool 2 or better to end the season, and they did far more than that in the most lopsided of all six Scheveningen rounds. Matchday 7, interred on the fixture list yet irrelevant because Pool 1 can no longer overtake Pool 2, will not be played. The table is set. Vezhidrupa, now champions official, will be sent to the Champions' Cup and Copa de Campeones next season, and Brewers, Lobyuseistvooshu, and Cóiméid will go to the Globe Cup. Meanwhile, Juqha Zhaba and Šešri’makaru (victims of Bei'thatho's singular victory), are formally relegated.

As I leapt atop my broom, I could already hear the wailing of the merpeople from the depths; their last shred of dignity, the last remnant of their kingdom, their last symbol of hope; raped by the tyrannical humans.

Stvoto Latolisi Football - 3 December 4012

Promotion Playoff - Qualifying Round

Friday, 30 November 4012
Bolcáin 3–0 Stvoyboystvei

Saturday, 1 December 4012
Shadows 4–1 Zhevassi

Sunday, 2 December 4012
Sheizheidoo 5–0 Troytitresheiha
Al Ziya 1–0 Al Atiq

Bolcáin's push to return to the top flight looks very good now indeed, as they could easily have felt hard done by a three-nil scoreline that shouldn't have even been close, truthfully. Stvoyboystvei's back line was a shambles, and their goalkeeper was the only reason the contest didn't end six or seven-nil. The next day, a pair of questionable goals gave Shadows a decisive victory over Zhevassi, leaving the Blues on the precipice after a wonderful autumn in which they overtook Raktaghav Hathi and the Red Elephants' lethal strike force. On Sunday, Sheizheidoo were value for their money as they destroyed Troytitresheiha in an all-Stvoto-Latolisi affair, and Al Ziya squeaked through their match in Muzira’a Ba’aydah City against a courageous Al Atiq outfit that looked gutted to have conceded a cheap goal just after half time. As easy as it was to feel bad for Al Atiq, seeing the Splendour (who are easily the hottest team in this playoff right now and their one seed shows it) lose in the first round would have been a travesty.
