The National Beach Soccer Team

Introduction

Isulans do not seem the type to be suited to beach soccer. The sport seems streamlined, sleek almost. Non-traditional and crass. Not for Isulans at all, though the nation is abundant with beaches. No, better to play bocce and games of wit and strategy upon these beaches then an enclosed, speeding version of the game Isulans love for tactics, only without the tactics. Yes, Beach Soccer is near enough the least Isulan sport one could hope to dream of. And yet, Isula ĝe Ru is here in Darmen. To be sure, their paperwork wasn't submitted on time, and they bring no scholars, but all the same, here they are.

C "Hello, this is Chiaki Kanazawa from Al-Mumtaz Sports Channel. We are here live from Tilden Island Stadium, Darmen where about 1 hour ago, our Holy Phoenix successfully grab it's first win after beating 16th ranked team, Boring Paradise 3-2. Now we are joined by the scorer Andrew Jack and representing Steve Mudriach, the assistant, Kenji Okakeda. Hello, Jack and hello, Mr. Okakeda, nice to have you here."

A "Hello, Chiaki, you are so gorgeous today, i'm always watching you on TV but i don't know you are this gorgeous."

C "Um... Thanks." | K "Please keep your manner, Jack."

C "Okay, to Jack. How does it feels to bagging 3 goals in your first international match?"

A "It's awesome, believe me. Honestly, this isn't just my first international match, it's my first match with proper rules. I'll dedicate those goals for you, Chiaki."

K "That's enough, Jack. You can go back to the hotel."

A "Eh~ That's boring."

C "Th-Thank you for joining us today, Jack." *Jack left the scene*
C "So to Mr. Kenji. How do you rate the performance of your team today?"

K "Naturally, we pleased with the win. But, there are still a lot of things we need to improve, the discipline in particular."

C "And how do you think our chance to qualify?"

K "It's still a long way to go. We have secured an important win from a ranked team, and that's quite promising. I don't really understand about the Boring Paradise, because they didn't even give the name of their players. We don't know if that's their way or this year is the exception, but i think they're not playing with their best players, the lady luck shines on us. So, we must give our all if we want to have a chance to qualify."

C "Oh, yeah... About the earlier match, Tom Firdaus seems hit his head during the match and substituted halfway after conceding 2 goals. Will he be okay?"

K "I don't know, I think he needs some time for recovering and it's quite a trouble. But, Peyton Clarence also did well and keeps the cleansheet for the remainder of the match, so i think he will become a starter for the next match against The Holy Republican Empire. Their skill are on the same level, so i think that will be okay."

C "That's quite reassuring. So, for the next match, our team will playing against The Holy Republican Empire, what do you think about the match?"

K "It will be difficult i think. They are one of the ranked team, but we have beaten Boring Paradise which is better ranked, so beating them isn't out of question. They're beating their opponent in the first match, so we must be careful. Furthermore, we still don't know anything about their team, too, we have zero information thanks to our incompetent scout. But, we will still do our best."

C "Yes, I hope the best for the match. Thank you for joining us today, Mr. Kenji"

K "Tanknasaghabhál du, Soneyedersehen." *Kenji left the scene*

C "........"

C "That's all, from Tilden Stadium, Chiaki Kanazawa reporting."

Sporting World

This is the Beach Cup
by: Richard Greenlaw

Well, we've already played our first match at the Beach Cup. Against SuperFruitLand (yes, that's actually the name of their nation!), Levi Hollick scored 3 goals off of the bench while Vincent Branch, Quennel Gosselin and Markus Salbergsson all scored goals. Sachiya Inoue was especially dominant defensively and Raphael Ortega made several spectacular saves. We simply beat them convincingly.

While most people back home will, rightly, be focusing on the World Cup, where we are once again set to face Felix yet again (seriously?) and look forward to, probably (in my opinion), getting some payback on those shifty Legalites in the Quarterfinals, there is another soccer Cup going on at the moment. The Beach Cup is a prestigious tournament that is returning after being dormant for 4 years and Darmen is hosting it for the second time. 4 years ago, the tournament was held in Saintland and our team went 4-6 under Mr. Abdullahi. This time around, my goal is to win most of our matches. Since I've got a youth team to work with while other nations are able to send stronger teams to the Beach Cup (since they aren't good enough to play in the World Cup), I'd still say that our U-15s can hang with the best players from 9 out of 10 nations in the international sports world.

In this tournament, we have been placed into Group D. We opened against unranked SuperFruitLand, whom we beat convincingly. Our second match is against Al-Mumtaz, who apparently competed in the World Cup around 15 years ago and are making their return now. I just hope they aren't a thorn in our side in the way that Miley World was a thorn in the main National Team's side during World Cup 69 Qualifying. Then, we have to face Eastfield Lodge, who are ranked 4th in the world in beach soccer. They finished second at the 7th Beach Cup, which was around a decade ago and co-hosted by them, but they haven't done anything since. Then, we'll face Boring Paradise, who are ranked 16th. Then, we'll have a bye. After our bye, we have to face Estenia and Peruvian Highlands in that order. As if they stand a chance against us!

Well, it wouldn't surprise me if we went 12-0, but you never know. Maybe some of these foreigners will actually turn out to be good. I just wish I didn't have to write for Sporting World. Why can't they hire a reporter to cover the National Team like they used to have? I just want to coach soccer and I can't do that. By the way, please don't publish this paragraph. Its supposed to be for the editor's eyes only because it is fucking stupid that I have to write these articles just to coach a God damn beach soccer team!

Richard Greenlaw is the manager for the Holy Republican National Beach Soccer Team. After a lengthy interview process, Rule Theriault decided Richard was the best choice to manage the Republican team at the Beach Cup. He will likely be auditioning for a permanent job with Republican National Soccer Team, LLC at this edition of the Beach Cup.

Miley World wins 8-0 in beach soccer

The Smilers made their debut in beach soccer yesterday and they won 8-0 against Titaniumland. Fernanda (2', 16', 19', 31'), Jorge Quinonez (8'), Sofia Velasquez (11'), Andressa (22') and Jake Fowler (27') scored for Miley World.

Miley World has been placed in group E against Western Cuba (ranked #2), which we played against in the world cup about 10 cycles ago, The Royal Barangay (ranked #19), Titaniumland, which we have good diplomatic relations with them, and three unkown countries: Cobmeister, Singapore and Isula gê Ru. Western Cuba and The Royal Barangay should finish 1st and 2nd easily. Miley World will end up with the 3rd place and the other four teams will fight for the 4th place. Miley World is playing against Titaniumland (8-0 win), Isula gê Ru, Singapore, Western Cuba, The Royal Barangay, Cobmeister in this order, so it is expected Miley World will start the tournament with 3 wins followed with 2 losses and another win. All games will be played in Liverpool, Darmen.

DEC News 1, Democratic Republic of Daritii loses 6-4
"The Red Marines lost their debut in beach football against Vettrera."

"Yes Gerckii but it was a damn close game. This was probably one of the best international debuts I have ever seen."

"Midfielder Inonii Allonii scored a hat trick in his world debut. While the other goal was scored by Peronockii Unbii"

"Yopii Awnii, our goal keeper exceeded expectations and had an impressive amount of saves. While Ernii Inernii shocked the world with the amount of tackles he had in the game. However Demii Sedii performed terribly and also got a yellow card. Fortunately Inernii and Awnii fixed most of his mistakes."

"Well it appears we have to end it here. My name is Gerckii Testinii."

"And my name is Elnaa Surnii."

Peruvian Highlands Sports

Interview With Esteban Fortado

Franco Riçorte, reporter for The Ixqa Times: Esteban, you had yourself a good day today, scoring both goals for the team. Tell us how you felt out there.

Esteban Fortado, Forward: Well, you know Franco, I was feeling pretty good today, you know? I felt my team was good, I felt good, it was a good day, you know?

FR: How did your play compare to Isidor Stanislov, your counterpart on the Estenian team?

EF: Well, you know, Stanislov, he's a good player, you know? He had some good chances today, and we would not have won without [PVH keeper] Hausler, you know? He made a lot of great stops, you know?

FR: Esteban, who do you think was the better team out there today?

EF: Well, you know, Franco, I'm going to say us because we won, but it was a good fight, you know? Estenia played hard, it was a challenge, you know? [Estenian keeper] Vasily was great out there today for them, and he made it hard for us, you know? Without him, we could have won by 6 or 7, you know? But we had a good squad out there today, we played well as a team, and I can't wait for our next game, you know?

FR: Esteban, thank you for your time. I'll let you get back to relaxing with your team. Congrats on the win.

EF: Thanks, Franco.

C "Hello, this is Chiaki Kanazawa from Al-Mumtaz Sports Channel. We are here live from one of the hotel in Tilden, where our national team rested in. This time, we are joined by Steve Mudriach and Ken Ryder, Hello, Mr.Steve and Ken, nice to have you here."

S "I'm sorry, i can't. I must go to that shrimp restau.... No, i mean i need to devise the strategy for the next match. Kenji will be here soon, you can interview him. Sorry." *Steve Mudriach left the scene in hurry*

C "Okay, let's talk to the Ken then, Ken, how does it feel to score your first goal here?"

KR "...... aa... It's a..... um... awesome, yes, it is awesome."
*Andrew Jack and Kenji Okakeda enter the scene*
A "It's useless, Chiaki. He is bad with the camera, you should interview me instead."

K "It's rude, Jack. Ken, you can go first." | KR "Yes, understood." *Ken Ryder left the scene*

C "So, what do you think about the last match against the Holy Republican Empire?"

A "They're so easy, man. They are no more than a bunch of bra..." *being hit on the head by Kenji* | K "Stop it, Jack. You should go now."

A "Ah, it's boring. Then, Chiaki-san, why don't you join us for dinner at a famous restaurant here, as my.... guest. Bye, i'll waiting for you." *Andrew Jack left the scene*

K "Sorry for the rudeness. So, about the match, we were doing pretty well. Jack is on his top form and Peyton Clarence did his job. Jack scored 3 goals, Mike Spike and Ken Ryder 1 goal each, we have a great start beating 2 ranked teams in our group. Our teamwork have become better and better, the skills are also increased, i think we can do well in this tournament."

C "Yeah, today's team is amazing, what do you think about the Holy Republican Empire after the match?"

K "Yeah, i just realized that they're using different name yesterday. So, actually we have a bit of their data, i just don't realize it until the last minute. No, it's not me to blame, it should be Scout's job. But we got the win anyway, no one can complain."

C "So, the next match will be against Estenia, what do you think about the match?"

K "First of all, Tom Firdaus has recovered, so he will become a starter again. Sinclair will be playing substituting Jadyn for the next match. The other will be same, with that uncontrollable Andrew Jack on the front, if only he is bit more discipline, he will be a perfect player. and this Estenia team seems playing aggresively, they'll keep attacking us and forgetting their defense, so we will exploiting that, it won't be easy but i'm sure their team won't be prepared. This Rudolf guy is the main problem, but our defense should be able to hold him."

C "Sorry to be rude. Have you seen their match?" | K "No, i haven't. Why?"

C "I think they're not playing like that, where did you get their playing style data?"

K "It's just my instinct after looking at this roster. I'm kind of proud with my instinct."

C "Certainly, i can see that. Last question, How do you think this team will do, assessing from the first 2 matches?"

K "I think we can qualify to the next stage. We have got 2 wins, i think we can also win the rest 4 matches and qualified from the group."

C "4? Isn't it using 2 matches system? You'll be playing against the same team twice before the group ended."

K "What?? I... I need to talk about this to Steve, see you soon then, you can join us in those restaurant there if you want." *Kenji Okakeda left the scene*

C "........ It's kind of....."

C "That's all. Chiaki Kanazawa, from Tilden, Darmen, reporting."

Estenian National Beach Football Team WIns

Estenia won on their second match on Beach Cup X and on Beach Cup in general and this is the start of an excellent thing because Estenians now are tougher than the debuting game and they are going to got the next round and not stop in the groups, as they always do. With the memorable exception of the 1ST OMAHAN FUTSAL CHAMPIONSHIPS and Maple Leaf Bowl III. Where to the both they finished in the first 4 positions, 2nd and 4th respectively. Well in the match, Estenians beat up Super Fruitland with 2-5 which is a pretty big win. Let's go to the match report.

The match started 45 minutes later and due to that we had to play in the hot Darmeni sun in one of the excellent Darmeni beaches. When the match started we had the first 12-minute period being played, we had to push forward because we saw that this would tire SuperFruitLandians and we saw this as an advantage for the rest of the game, even though they were winning us with 2-0, we had tire them so we could score as many goals as possible. In the second period, everything was easier as we saw the tireness of the players would make them lose their defending positions and then was the time that Yasha Vova crossed it to Rudolf Aristarkh and then Rudolf gave it to Isidor Stanislav to do a great shot and put the ball to the upper-right edge of the net. This was a truly amazing moment for us. We reduced the difference to one goal and the score was 2-1.After that goal, we still pushed forward and our opponents did a mistake and gave the ball to Adrian Stas who dribbled everyone and shot the ball to score a goal. After that everyone from SuperFruitLand or SuperFruitland supporters had silenced only Estenians and Estenian supporters were cheering. That gave the advantage to us to score another 3 fast goals and finish the match for them. The match ended 2-5 and Estenians won.
Runner-up at the 1st OMAHAN FUTSAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, 4th at Maple Leaf Bowl III, 4th on Baptism of Fire 57, 2nd at Runner Cup 4, 3rd at 21st World Lacrosse Championships.

Ko-orenite Board of Meteorology and Climate

Temperatures Dropping

The North Salamantic Sea Current, responsible for heating up northeast Ko-oren, is rapidly cooling down. This will lead to extremely low temperatures in the densely populated north east, most notably the urban agglomerations of Jeknolr and Rabth states. The population there may not just be looking at cool summers and very cold winters: precipitation should increase, leading to a possibility of almost year-round snow storms.

Due to the relatively warm Bay of Ko-oren, population in southern Othushun should be fine - and the same should go for the entire coast. The Salamantic Sea Current is split in two in North Vnoskjulung, sending a warmer current down south, but sending a cold current towards Ko-oren's north. Our northern position in Atlantian Oceania already does not give us a comfortable climate, yet these problems - that should hit in the immediate future - could severely limit the inhabitable space in Ko-oren.

Ko-orenite Board of Demographics and Statistics

Remigration Program Big Success

The remigration program, initiated by Ko-oren's president Akiranar Nembus, has led to a net immigration rate for last year. For the first time in decades, Ko-oren welcomed more immigrants than it had to say goodbye to emigrants. A significant group of the immigrants is the group of people who left the country between 20 and 30 years ago for economic reasons. They mainly lived in the territories of Ko-oren, most notably the unstable Zakhoren.

Together with the favourable birth rate, Ko-oren is looking at a large population increase. If this trend maintains itself, a population of 15 million is not out of the question. According to the Ko-orenite Board of Demographics and Statistics, as well as the Ko-orenite Board of Regional Development, the country of Ko-oren should easily be able to house up to 55 million people, looking at population densities from other countries in similar economic, climatic and agricultural positions.

Jim: "Welcome back to sportscenter on MSN and we're talking to William MacIntosh, he's in Liverpool, Darmen to cover the beach cup X. Hi Will!"

Will: "Hey Jim!"

Jim: "Let's talk about beach soccer, did the Smilers won again?"

Will: "Yep! Miley World beat Singapore 9-5. Fernanda scored 4 goals, so she has 10 goals in 3 games. 4 goals against Titaniumland, 2 goals against Isula gê Ru and 4 goals against Singapore."

Jim: "She's pretty good!"

Will: "Yeah, that's why she's on the national team!"

Jim: "Ok so what's next for Miley World?"

Will: "The Smilers are playing against Western Cuba next, which is ranked #2 in the tournament."

Jim: "Damn they're good! It's gonna be hard to beat them."

Will: "Yeah but we can. Western Cuba didn't made their roster public and everyone knows that making it public gives a confidence boost to the team!"

Jim: "Yeah agreed. Talking about rosters, we're going to a commercial break and after the break we'll reveal Miley World's roster for the World Baseball Classic 31."

Will: "Cool, I hope Park Jung-woo made the team he's my favorite player!"

Jim: "You like baseball? I didn't know it."

Jim: "Yeah he made the team, he's the second pitcher in the rotation."

Will: "Thanks, yeah I like baseball, i'm a big Traceborough Metro Stations fan!

Jim: "Oh you're a Mets fan, I'm a Pink Sox fan!"

Jim: "umm well I forgot we're still on air... we're going to a commercial break now. You're watching Sportscenter on MSN."

Corrupt Dictatorship

Postby Ko-oren » Wed Aug 20, 2014 2:20 pm

"Yes, the next president of the country is going to have a challenge managing all these threats and challenges. Temperatures dropping in the north, possibly forcing people south... and Ko-orenite remigrants. Well, the latter means more tax income, I presume."

"President, are you not trying to stay in office for a couple more years?"

"No. It has been a good run. I have seen Ko-oren move from just a meritocracy into a nation that respects its linguistic heritage and history... and still is a meritocracy, of course. And maybe it's a little bit too divided now. Time will tell. I just think that the country is definitely ready for a new face and some fresh ideas. And we'll need them. I just hope it won't backfire."

"How so?"

"It's still a meritocracy. Always dangerously close to an aristocracy. It will take one bad leader to turn from one into the other."

"I see..."

"And that's the only reason why the only thing that carries the death penalty is cheating the political system... High tax rates. The government that takes care of most, if not all, services that the inhabitants enjoy. So many opportunities to take more than you should, for those in charge of policies."

Final Selections for Cabinet Positions To Be Announced Soon

Policy makers and political commentators have come together in the capital to decide who will become Ko-oren's next president. A couple of names have been leaked to the media, but so far the name of Akiranar Nembus, current president, has not been one of them.

Winter kicks in as Meteorology and Climate Board Warns Population

December has started, and with that the meteorological winter will soon begin. The national weather authority has warned that every next winter could be more vicious than the previous, as Salamantic Sea Currents change course. Hospitals in North-Eastern Ko-oren have already arranged for their patients to leave for a Southern hospital should temperatures drop severely.

Following Mapletish's Beach Cup X Journey

Image

Touching down onto Darmen for the Union's 6th Beach Cup outing starting from Beach Cup V. Previously Darmen hosted Beach Cup VI which makes it the second time the Beach Lions have been to the Commonwealth for beach soccer. Having come a long way with a team of dedicated players and coaches, the Beach Lions have reached the 10th anniversary of the most important showpiece for beach soccer/football or whatever you call it. The more senior players have come and go and the younger ones have stepped up from the Union's first beach soccer youth academy. This tournament's new additions include Sung Joon Jeong, Jerano Terho, Paul Markus and Ivar Birger with Markus and Birger filling in the shoes of being a utility player. The need for exceptional young talent is crucial in replacing the fast ageing squad with captain Yorkshire Darwin, expected to play for another Beach Cup before he decides to retire for good.

Match Day 1

Mapletish 1 2 3 6
Mizuyuki 0 0 0 0

In the opening match of the Lions' long awaited campaign in Darmen, they faced off with Mizuyuki, one of the powerhouses of association football but not quite of a powerhouse in beach soccer as the Lions made easy work out of an equally strong team which consists of a "Golden Pair" Player #2 and Player #3. Having not played on Darmen sand for awhile, the Lions got off to a shaky start which almost costed them the game. Denlison Delingo mis-kicked a clearance and it sent Player #3 through on goal but was denied by the quick reflexes of Arthur in the 7th minute. The shaky start continued as Jonathan Perry stuck his feet into the sand instead of kicking the ball, wasting a golden opportunity on goal as Player #1 made easy work of Perry's poor composure. However, Yorkshire Darwin pulled one back from an acrobatic effort in the 11th minute after an effort went off the goal and straight in his path, pulling the goal in the most fashionable way.

Both the second and third periods of the game contained more action and excitement as the Lions found their footing at Liverpool Harbour Stadium. Recovering from the poor first period performance, the Lions showed why they were the best ranked team in the group with an impressive showing with a goal from Marino Cesar and Jonathan Perry but Mizuyuki pressed on to keep the ball at the halfway line. Thinking that changing players would do the trick, Mr Coach changed his midfield pairing with Player #6 and #7 in an effort to break defences and strengthen a squad hit by the sweltering heat of the afternoon sun together with the relentless attacks from the Lions.

The Lions finally broke free in the 3rd period and finished Mizuyuki off with 3 great goals to keep Mizuyuki out of their way for the time being, recording their first victory in an international match since Beach Cup IX.

Match Day 2
Mapletish 1 0 3 4
Yttribia 0 2 0 2

Not exactly the best way to come off from an impressive start to the campaign with slight showers on the ground before the sun rays hit the ground again. This time round, the Lions had little problems settling into the game with an early first goal to cement their hold in the game. Head coach Dawson made two changes from the line up that started against Mizuyuki with Markus and Joon Jeong making their debut. Controlling the flow of the game well, was Goddess Margaret giving this win to the Lions.

Truth to be told, Margaret does what she always does, changing and manipulating the game events around and changing outcomes of games. The Lions almost immediately surrendered their 1 goal lead in the start of the second period with carelessness from Marino Cesar as his pass went straight into the path of Player #3 who was marking him. Without hesitation, Player #3 placed the ball straight in the bottom corner just a few inches from the reach from Arthur.

"That goal was the beginning of an end. Should I have dived a bit more to my left, I could have got the ball,'' goalkeeper Arthur recalled in the post match press conference. With the added confidence, Player #3 made anther effort on goal, this time from an amazing volley using his right heel. The direction of the game changed soon after, with the Lions picking up the momentum once again. Has the Lions done it? No. It was not until the third period would they be able to start the waves of counterattack that got the Lions back and eventually won Yttriba by a small margin, 4-2.

Match Day 3

Mapletish 3 2 8 13
Itanpavia 0 0 0 0

In a match to further consolidate the Lions' standing in Group F, the highest ranked nation in Group F was invited to give Itanpavia a crash course to beach soccer with an impressive 13-0 victory over the newcomers. The 13-0 scoreline has also become Mapletish's biggest scoreline against a team in an international match. This match, Darwin paired up with Hikaru, forming the "Ace Pair". Age almost didn't matter as the "Ace Pair'' contributed 6 of the 13 goals scored in the tournament.

"We played well today and the main thing is to stay humble and work harder to bring back better results,' Darwin was quoted saying in the post match press conference.

Government names new Cabinet members

January 1, the new Ko-orenite Cabinet has been named and will be inaugurated in one week. Howard Grosvenor has been appointed as the new president of the nation. He has not always been the most likely candidate for the position, criticised for his opinion that Ko-oren should become a federal state. More than other candidates, however, he stated that he wants to give a substantial voice to the parliament. Rosa Scholten has been appointed as vice-president for her good grasp of local issues across Ko-oren. Gareth Peredur has been appointed as Minister of Transport, a difficult position as large parts of Northern Ko-oren are starting to get desolate and cities on the Southern coast are starting to grow rapidly, while the infrastructure can hardly keep up. For Minister of Finance we have Laura Devaux, and Jae-Hwa Song is the new Justice Minister. A full list of Cabinet members can be found on the government website.

Landmark Decision in Ko-oren's Confusing Language Situation

Sumika Shoda, Ko-oren's new minister for Education and Language Policy, has stated her intention to go from 15 official languages to just five. Dutch, English, Japanese, French and Portuguese, as the current most spoken languages across the nation, are to be kept official. Other languages, not limited to the 10 other (previously) official languages, will be recognised, but not official. The reason for her position is the amount of translating that goes into legislation, where 15 languages must have a decent translation at the very least. After this policy is implemented, translation times should decrease significantly as only 4 translations have to be made. This will also make education programmes less complicated, as children are to learn one first language and two more at school, instead of one first language, one more local language and one more national language. For the other 10 languages, first language education will still be offered, though only the main five will be designated for second language education.
