This is now the OOC discussion thread for the Games of the IX Olympiad.
The largest sporting event in the multiverse is coming to the Kytlerian cities of Zube and Kytler Bay City. And everyone's invited.
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE SIGNING UP. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF ELEMENTS TO BE AWARE OF, INCLUDING SOME CHANGES FROM PREVIOUS PROTOCOL. SIGNUPS THAT DEVIATE FROM THE REQUIREMENTS ARE LIABLE TO BE IGNORED ALTOGETHER.
How to sign up
To sign up for the Games, it is recommended that you use this spreadsheet - this automatically handles the formatting, as well as providing a count of entries and their average skill (see below for an explanation of the limits to these). Simply copy the text in column B of the "CopyPasteThis" tab once you're done, and paste it into this thread. The formatting is already sorted for you. The spreadsheet is in .ods format, which can be read in the free OpenOffice software and in at least some versions of Excel. However, if you need an .xls version of the file, it's here.
It is recognised that there have been problems with this spreadsheet, particularly in its .xls form. A number of bug fixes have taken place since initial upload, so if you downloaded the spreadsheet yesterday you may wish to do so again. If you continue to have issues, please report them on the Olympic discussion thread. Thank you to Eastfield Lodge, Taeshan, Gregoryisgodistan, and others who have provided bug reports.
Alternatively, you can fill in your entrants underneath each event on the master list below in the traditional manner. You must do so in the following form: Entry name;abbreviation;skill. The old-style signups with square bracket skill levels will not be accepted. Also, be sure to remove events where you do not have participants.
Note that the event list has changed from the Games of the VIII Olympiad; entry limits have been reverted to the standard levels with the exceptions of the 10,000 m and marathon in athletics, several events have been added or removed, and there have been minor tweaks to the naming and categorisation of a few events. As such, do not copy and paste your entries from Orean if you were involved in those Games!

Skill point and entry limits
Each user is limited to 400 entrants from a single delegation, or 550 from two delegations; accordingly, puppets and "unified teams" must be declared. Failure to do so will result in all delegations being rejected. An "entry" in this case is any one individual or team in any one event, independent of how many are in the team or any other entries for the athlete(s) in question. in other events. For instance, two teams of two for the women's doubles tennis event counts as two entries, and if three of these four women participate in the women's singles then that counts as three further entries.
Skill values are 0-100; as the distribution of results is based around RL Olympic results, a 0 represents the low end of what is represented at Olympic level rather than an actual incompetent athlete. 100, of course, represents one of the world's best. The average skill level must not exceed 50. If your delegation exceeds this, it may be rejected entirely, or you may have all of your skill values reduced proportionately until the average is below 50.
In addition, it should be noted that there is an incentive to avoid "min-maxing," the act of concentrating most or all skill points in certain entries, in the form of a "Min-Max Avoidance Bonus" (MMAB) that is based on the standard deviation of skill values; in simple terms, the more evenly spread these values are, the greater the MMAB will be. The maximum MMAB is equivalent to 8% of the final skill value used for scorination, with 32% for RP bonus and 60% based on the initial skill value in the signup. Note that Margaret, the goddess of random numbers, will ensure that nothing is ever guaranteed - surprise results will happen, and neither skill nor RP guarantees anything.
If you're using the spreadsheet for signing up, the MMAB is automatically calculated, but the final calculations will be at my end as a check, and the MMAB will not be quoted in what you post (though the skill average will).
Notes
It is anticipated that there will be signups continuously throughout the period, keeping the thread on the first or at least second page. Therefore, you do not need to "tag" or "provisionally sign up" - and may be ignored if you do. Additionally, as the list of signups will be checked on a regular basis and it will always start from where the last check ended, do not edit your signup if you make changes - simply post a list of the changes in a new post. That will be captured; an edit won't.
A separate roster thread will be created where you can list teams in events involving more than four participants, as well as any IC details such as your flag-bearer. These lists are optional, but count towards your first-day RP bonus.
Signups close at 22:59 UTC (18:59 EDT, 23:59 BST) on Thursday, August 7. All signups received after this point will be rejected.
