100,000 Gregoryisgodistani Soldiers Killled in Destruction of Hicana

The Gregoryisgodistan-Hicana war is apparently over, and how it ended is incredibly strange. Just a little while ago, the news broke that the Hicanan capital had been destroyed in a massive fire started by Gregoryisgodistani soldiers. It appeared the whole government was gone. But it turned out they had ordered a secret evacuation and five cabinet members plus the President were still alive. Then, things got weirder. Literally the entire country was evacuated. Everybody fled the country. Every single citizen of Hicana.

Well, almost every citizen. The Hicanan Air Force was in the sky, preparing to drop explosives on the country. Soldiers on the ground spotted this and tried to radio to the Gregoryisgodistani Air Force to shoot them down. A couple planes were shot down, but this did no good. The bombs fell with them, and exploded, killing everyone near them. At that point, the Gregoryisgodistani Air Force abandoned the soldiers below and retreated from Hicanan airspace.

The soldiers knew they were done for, but they didn't care. To die in the name of Lord Almighty Gregory would make them true heroes, true martyrs to the True Lord. And soon that was what they were. The Hicanan Air Force dropped their explosive payload on their own country, abandoned by their own people. It was completely destroyed, killing about 100,000 Gregoryisgodistani soldiers but also destroying every building still standing. The country was in shambles and it was unlikely the Hicanan citizens would be back for a while, if ever. They would spread out across the multiverse in the Hicanan Diaspora, presumably. But 100,000 Gregoryisgodistani soldiers were dead, more than the number of Hicanan civilians dead which was estimated at about 75,000 over the course of the whole war.

And of course, the Hicanan government was in exile. It was doubtful it even had any power to do anything like pay the reparations. And what was Gregoryisgodistan going to do? Bomb every country that had accepted exiles? Unlikely. No, this war was over. All that was left was to offer President Adam Watson an unconditional truce. What was left of Hicana's Air Force would cease to bomb Gregoryisgodistan, and in exchange Gregoryisgodistan would not try to hunt down the refugees and destroy them. Lord Almighty Gregory sent the letter to Watson marked urgent. He expected it to be accepted. After all, Watson had very little power over anything while he was in exile. There were very few Air Force casualties among the Gregoryisgodistani military, so they could shoot down the Hicana planes over the ocean if need be. But Lord Almighty Gregory would rather it not come to that. He hoped Watson would accept the offer and sat down awaiting his response. In the meantime, the 100,000 martyrs would be honored the next Martyr's Day, February 11, just as it was every year starting last year. Of course, reading all their names individually and honoring all their families individually would take a very long time, so that wouldn't happen. However, Lord Almighty Gregory announced that a "Hicana War Memorial" would be erected in the Capital District and would contain the names of all those soldiers who were killed in the Hicana War. Current reports showed the exact count at 102,381. Of those, 101,918 were killed in the final bombing that destroyed the whole country, while the other 463 were killed before that, mainly in ground fighting though a couple had their planes shot down. Every Martyr's Day ceremony in the future would be held in front of the Memorial. Construction workers and slaves were already beginning to construct the Memorial, and it was expected to be completed in time for the Martyr's Day ceremonies. To quote Lord Almighty Gregory, "Those who gave their lives will long be remembered in Gregoryisgodistan. Hicana has been destroyed thanks in large part to these brave noble martyrs. May their memories be in our minds for all eternity."
