Sicoutimont National Football Team

After the heart-breaking loss in the Copa Rushmori Final to Polar Islandstates in extra time, Sicoutimont return to World Cup competition ready to attempt qualification once again. Several regular faces return to the team, and manager Marc Denis is looking to finally get the team performing well and make a return to the World Cup Finals after several years wandering in World Cup darkness.

Starting XI

Alain Rivcoucher -- East Franz Athletic (PIS) -- Age 27 -- GK
Rivcoucher helped his East Franz team to a Globe Cup spot in the Polarian league, and that plus his great showing at the World Cup and recent Copa Rushmori have secured him the full-time starting job.

Neal Kent (A) -- 1896 Ebor (MYT) -- Age 34 -- DF
In what could be Kent's final World Cup campaign, he looks to channel his veteran leadership skills to bring this team back to the world's stage.

Loic Leduc -- Matthew City Rangers (NSI) -- Age 31 -- DF
Leduc missed the last World Cup with an injury, but his defensive play will be valued in this tournament, and needed if this team finds a way to reach the finals.

David Smith -- Brigham (EUR) -- Age 25 -- DF
Marc Denis is calling on Smith to replace Yves Savard, and at 25 and already expected to lead the Sicoutian back line in the future, this campaign is his time to show the nation why he deserves his starting XI spot.

Oscar de Orebale -- Royal Rumiatzi (ASG) -- Age 35 -- MD
Orebale will be a big help in the midfield for this Sicoutian roster, and his talent can only help this team in the Qualification campaign.

Jean de Terre -- SK Aassiat Harbour (PIS) -- Age 24 -- MD
While a common theme of this team is that it's getting older, it's good to know the future is in good hands with players like de Terre, who will be the ones who bring this team past World Cup 70, which is expected to be when many of the players who've been with this team since the start will retire.

Vito Ruel -- Sporting Volker (FEL) -- Age 27 -- MD
Ruel, one of the stars of Marc Denis' 3-4-3 formation in the middle of the pitch, hopes to prove to the world once again why he was worth the $20m fee Sporting Volker paid to get his services.

Louis Desjardins -- Alianza F.C (SJG) -- Age 34 -- MD
Desjardins has become a crowd favourite at Alianza F.C over the past years, and it's mainly due to his talent in the middle of the field. Marc Denis hopes that this talent comes through for Sicoutimont, as he's been somewhat shaky at previous international events.

Gaspard Demaru -- Jan Mayen Islanders (PIS) -- Age 24 -- ST
Demaru, one of the youngest on this team, in addition to Jean de Terre, is expected to help this club for many years in the future. Some say he's already surpassed team-mate Girard Giroux in greatness, at only the age of 24.

Alex Gannot -- SC Castle 1724 -- Age 29 -- ST
On this top triad, Gannot is the ball player. While Demaru and Giroux can finish so spectacularly, it's often Gannot who won the ball with a great play, or put in the great cross. Of course, he can score as well. Much of Gannot's great work goes unseen, but is greatly appreciated by his team mates.

Girard Giroux (C) -- Edmonton United (VLD) -- Age 33 -- ST
Girard Giroux, captain of the national team, isn't as fine as he used to be, when we saw him score almost at will in the Sicoutian league and for the national team when he was on form. He has still earned this spot, however, and may be in his last campaign as well.

Reserves

Pier-Luc Dion -- FC Arayat Severyn (MYT) -- Age 34 -- GK
Artyom Bergeron -- Ferduelalle FC (FAF) -- Age 31 -- GK
Fernard Girard -- Astograth University (ASG) -- Age 33 -- DF
Juan Sanchez -- Lac-Drouin Capitales -- Age 19 -- DF
Samuel Rodgers -- FC Cote -- Age 26 -- DF
Martin Blais -- Gesterlake FC (ASG) -- Age 27 -- MD
Hans Richelieu -- AFK Hans Island Pioneers (PIS) -- Age 35 -- MD
Frederick Dandenault -- SC Castle 1724 -- Age 28 -- MD
Georges Allonts -- Gesterlake FC (ASG) -- Age 35 -- ST
Christopher Savard -- Fontvielle Impact (VLD) -- Age 34 -- ST
Leon Lafleur -- Lac-Drouin St-Pierre U21's -- Age 20 -- ST
Stan Sarault -- Iskara Daii (STB) -- Age 31 -- ST

The Horuslandian Soccer Team
Ka Echipa Horuslandiyen de Fotbal
World Cup 69
Copa Sekai Rokazais shi Kano

Hosted by Apox and the Holy Empire, the 69th edition of the World Cup places us in qualification group 7, along with better-ranked nations Antoletia and Legalese, the latter being expected to qualify for the final groups.
HorusLand has been stagnating in terms of ranking in the past few cups, but still has a sizable chance at qualifying, having won against Legalese three to one in its most recent match.

Group 7
(17) Legalese
(45) Antoletia
(81) HorusLand
(106) Gloriax
(137) The Greater Vakolicci Heaven
(231) Ancharmunn
(284) Mosktopia
(358) Cobano

All home matches will be played either at the Silver Stadium of Akkadis, or at the Rikataan Arena.
Akkadis (Translated: The City of Hope), the capital of HorusLand, is home to 1.5 million of the 7 million people in the nation. A relatively new, but very modern city, it prides itself in being one of the most ecologic cities in the region.
Though it is surrounded mostly by water, Rikataan (Translated: The City of the Earth) gets its name from the first colonists to arrive in HorusLand. Rikataan is the nation's main tourist destination, because of its warm climate, its proximity to both the sea and the Karanos mountains, and also because it's the center of most sports events.
This is our lineup for this edition of the World Cup:

Rinne Salovaara

Coaches:
Maiyun Isamu

Team Strategy

Image

In many ways, the style of hoofball played by the Crystal Empire is similar to that of the Equestrian States, being based on speed, endurance, and the natural advantages of equine athletes. However, there are a couple of key differences between the two teams' approaches. First, the Crystal Empire is more defensive than their Equestrian counterparts, using a slightly-modified 4-4-2 formation and relying on the midfielders to provide additional defensive support if needed. This conservative strategy allows the Crystal Knights to better weather the early all-out attacks that have felled the Ponies in the past, leaving them rested and capable of staging second half surges similar to those utilized by the Equestrian States.

Furthermore, the Crystal Empire lacks the species diversity that the Equestrian States is so well known for, being over 98% inhabited by crystal ponies. While they may lack some of the natural advantages held by other sapient equines, the crystal ponies should still not be taken lightly by humanoid players. Like other ponies, crystal ponies are generally shorter than their humanoid opponents but make up for it with impressive jumping abilities (though not nearly as awe-inspiring as those of the pegasai). Finally, while sapient equines rarely "play dirty", crystal ponies take clean play to a whole new level with their wholehearted devotion to the elegance and beauty of the game.

Home Stadium
Image
Imperial Arena

Location: Crystopolis
Capacity: 69,740
Tenants: Crystopolis City

Located adjacent to the towering Crystal Palace, Imperial Arena was constructed shortly after the Crystal Empire reappeared to the north of Magical Equestria as a part of the nation's bid to host the Equestria Games. In the decade or so since the games were held, many other sports competitions have taken place in the Empire's largest stadium and several prominent local hoofball clubs have also taken up residence.

A multipurpose indoor venue, Imperial Arena's main field is encircled by a track, somewhat limiting the seating of supporters, though additional accommodations will be added to reduce the distance separating the fans from the field. Additionally, it should be noted that pickaxes, hammers, chisels, and other tools brought into the Crystal Empire will be confiscated and checked upon entry to the nation as stealing chunks of the Empire's predominantly crystal architecture is generally frowned upon by the local authorities.

Players

Goalkeepers
Image
#1 - GK - Gentle Breeze (Pegasus - Female) - 25 - Image Northbrook Diamonds FK (PIS) - 61 Caps, 1 Assist
Although the term "world class" may be overused by pundits and analysts while describing talented players, Gentle Breeze is one of the select few with a legitimate claim to being among the multiverse's best. At the age of 19, the Equestrian goalkeeper played a key role in leading the Little Ponies to a third-place finish at the Di Bradini Cup before returning to play an even larger role the following year with the title-winning team of the 27th Di Bradini Cup. Gentle Breeze's five clean sheets during that tournament brought her to the attention of the rest of the hoofball universe, earning the Equestrian a place with the Mardi Lopunnies of Northern Sunrise Islands. Over the next couple years, Gentle Breeze established herself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Sunrisian league while simultaneously challenging long-time Equestrian national team keeper High Soarin' for his starting role. But it wasn't until the pegasus landed a transfer to Astograth University that she really earned her position among the multiverse's elite. For the following three seasons, Gentle Breeze claimed a monopoly on the Best Goalkeeper award in one of the world's top leagues, playing a major role in her club's domestic and international success and finally taking over the starting goalkeeper's position with the Ponies. After the Astograthian league's sudden banning of foreigners, Gentle Breeze was quickly snatched up by Polarian contenders Northbrook Diamonds FK, where she intends to erase any remaining doubts that she is a true world class athlete.

Image
#22 - GK - Nightflame (Unicorn - Male) - 24 - Image Canterlot Stars (EQS) - 9 Caps
With Gentle Breeze on the team, Nightflame's playing time may be limited to friendlies and low-importance international matches, but he's still a talented goalkeeper with a lot to offer to the Equestrian States national team. A product of the Canterlot Stars' famed youth academy, Nightflame has developed into one of the United League's top keepers, but has often been overlooked by the local and international media thanks to the his club's recent struggles and lack of appearances for the Ponies. Regardless, Nightflame is a more than capable backup goalkeeper who steps up his game when needed, a quality which serves him well given his role in the Equestrian squad.

Image
#21 - GK - Marilyn Peterson (Human - Female) - 22 - Image South Laithland (NPH) - 3 Caps
A recent graduate of the Equestrian States U21s, Marilyn Peterson may not be particularly well-known among even Equestrian hoofball fans, but her promising talent has managed to turn Twilight Striker's head enough to earn her a spot on the senior team. It's possible Peterson may overtake Nightflame in the depth chart somewhere down the road, but until then, she'll more than likely find herself with minimal playing time and one can only assume she was brought along by Twilight Striker to learn from the other two goalkeepers.

Defenders
Image
#3 - DF - Flitter (Pegasus - Female) - 29 - Image Jan Mayen Islanders (PIS) - 169 Caps, 17 Assists, 10 Goals
Fraternal twin sister of star midfielder Cloudchaser, Flitter is viewed by many as the anchor of the Equestrian back line and is arguably the best defender to ever represent the Equestrian States on the international stage. A regular starter for the Ponies since her debut as a promising 20 year-old during the World Cup 60 qualifying campaign, Flitter has long been considered one of the team's key players and is easily the most-capped Equestrian defender of all time. Although she may not be the most imposing player on the pitch, the pegasus star is exceptionally quick for a defender, and often relies on her speed and hoofwork to steal or intercept the ball rather than brute force. Flitter has also been a force to be reckoned with at the domestic level, as her defensive leadership has played a major role in Ponyville United's domination of Equestrian hoofball over the last decade. As a result of her excellent form for both Ponyville United and the Equestrian national team, Flitter recently earned a transfer to Polar Islandstates' Jan Mayen Islanders, where she hopes to establish herself as one of the Polarian league's top defenders.

Image
#24 - DF - Brix Hamilton (Human - Female) - 25 - Image Nithgard GU (EAR) - 34 Caps, 4 Assists, 1 Goal
Once just another promising Equestrian youth, Brix Hamilton has developed into one of the Equestrian States' finest defensive talents, her growth as a player mirroring the ascension of Nithgard GU from a mid-table side in the Integ Brandel to one of the multiverse's best clubs. Signed by the Kaynd at the age of 19 from the Equestrian Second League's Real Maredrid, Hamilton did not immediately establish herself as an elite player as other Equestrians have after moving to a foreign league, struggling in her first season as Nithgard finished 14th in the league. Brix Hamilton started for the Little Ponies at the 27th Di Bradini Cup, where her performance earned her a spot on the Equestrian qualifying roster during the successful World Cup 66 campaign. Then, in her first breakout season with Nithgard GU, a 21 year-old Hamilton helped lead the Kaynd to an improbable Integ Brandel title before playing a key role in the club's shocking Champions' Cup quarterfinals run, two feats she would repeat the following year. Brix Hamilton's domestic successes sent her flying up the Equestrian depth chart and was on the brink of earning a starting role when her luck appeared to run out. Over the next two seasons, the Equestrian defender struggled, her club failing to defend its title and falling down the table into Earent's Globe Cup spots. Regardless of her poor form, the Ponies' head coach, Twilight Striker, saw fit to give Hamilton the coveted spot on the starting XI as Blackmane and Subtle Trix both failed to impress in the disastrous World Cup 68 qualifying campaign. The unexpected promotion instantly restored Brix Hamilton's confidence, which inspired a run of excellent form that Nithgard GU rode not only to their third Integ Brandel title in five seasons, but all the way through the UICA Champions' Cup and Super Cup. Now firmly entrenched as a starter for the Ponies and as perhaps the best defender in one of the multiverse's top leagues, Brix Hamilton is once again on the rise, and will be looking to help lead the Equestrian States to the top of the hoofball world in the coming years.

#8 - DF - Andrea Molovi (Human - Female) - 28 - Image 1830 Cathair (AUD) - 132 Caps, 4 Assists, 2 Goals
Despite being a regular starter for the Ponies and one of its most experienced players, Andrea Molovi is often considered one of the most underrated and overlooked members of the Equestrian national team. Among the first Equestrian States-born human players to make a name for herself, Andrea is an extremely talented defender whose disciplined style of play has impressed more than a few in the Equestrian media. After spending most of her professional career with Stalliongrad HC, Andrea Molovi was recently sold to 1830 Cathair, Audioslavian contenders in the up-and-coming LigAnaia, for a fee of $15 million. Although some critics were initially skeptical of whether or not the Equestrian defender was really worth the price tag, Andrea wasted no time proving that every penny of her fee was well-spent. Not only did she play a major role in turning a mediocre 1830 Cathair back line into one of the league's best, but the defender also impressed even her Equestrian admirers with a number of well-timed goals that helped lead her new club to a LigAnaia title. After such a fine season, there's little doubt that Andrea Molovi will be eager to contribute to the Ponies in the upcoming qualifying campaign.

Image
#18 - DF - Horus (Unicorn - Female) - 26 - Image Canterlot Royals (EQS) - 16 Caps, 1 Assist
A member of the Equestrian squad which won the 27th Di Bradini Cup, Horus has largely flown under the radar at both the international and domestic levels, despite being a regular on the national team for several years now. However, the unicorn defender has never viewed the minimal media coverage she receives as a hindrance to her career and has generally gone about her business with a cheery attitude that brightens the the mood of her teammates in the locker room even after a tough loss. With the recent departure of Flitter and Andrea Molovi to foreign clubs, Horus is arguably the best Equestrian States-born defender still playing in the United League and may soon receive the media attention a player of her quality deserves. As a member of the Equestrian national team, Horus is unlikely to earn many starts, but has always been excellent off the bench for Twilight Striker and will probably see quite a bit of action as a substitute.

Image
#19 - DF - Krysia Bailey (Human - Female) - 20 - Image Avenida Leal (FFD) - 5 Caps, 1 Assist
One of several promising young defenders selected by Twilight Striker for the World Cup 69 campaign, Krysia Bailey is an extremely talented prospect who also made the Equestrian squad last year for the Cup of Harmony. Signed by Avenida Victoria as a teenager, Bailey has impressed in her two seasons in the FARF Freitball Ligá, helping her club finish among the best in the league in goals allowed. Recently sold to Avenida Leal, Krysia Bailey looks every bit like a star of the future and could see quite a bit of action as a substitute alongside fellow highly-praised defensive prospects Rumble and Erauso Iburrusteta.

Image
#20 - DF - Rumble (Pegasus - Male) - 19 - Image Marine Coast United (VIL) - 5 Caps, 1 Assist
The younger brother of longtime national team striker Thunderlane, Rumble is another one of the several promising defenders selected by Twilight Striker for the upcoming qualifying campaign. Though the teenage pegasus idolizes his older brother, his talents differ considerably from those of Thunderlane. A defensive prodigy, Rumble aspires to become the best Equestrian center-back ever, though his speed and versatility have seen him occasionally feature in the midfield for his club. Regardless of where Twilight Striker decides to use Rumble, opponents should be careful not to underestimate this young Equestrian's abilities.

Image
#32 - DF - Erauso Iburrusteta (Human - Male) - 19 - Image Cloudsdale Flyers (EQS) - Uncapped
Born and raised in Astograth, Erauso Iburrusteta was not even an Equestrian citizen at this point last year. However, with Astograth a victim of the recent wave of fascism that has taken the multiverse by storm, the teenage defender decided to apply for asylum in the Equestrian States and defect. Signed as a young prospect by the Cloudsdale Flyers, Erauso Iburrusteta has been a rising star in the United League the last couple seasons and the Ponies' supporters are thrilled to see him called up to the national team.

Image
#26 - DF - Blackmane (Earth Pony - Male) - 27 - Image Stilwater City (NSI) - 72 Caps, 2 Assists, 1 Goal
Early in his professional career, Blackmane was hailed by many analysts the next great Equestrian defender, but has instead become an example of a player who failed to live up to his potential. Though not a bad defender, Blackmane has routinely struggled with discipline and form problems at the international level, and a particularly horrendous couple of performances in the Ponies' playoff matches has been seen by Equestrian supporters as one of the main reasons their team failed to qualify for World Cup 68. Blackmane's fall from grace with the national team in the last year has been truly spectacular and his demotion is viewed by pundits as a perfect example of Twilight Striker's recent willingness to promote youth over out-of-form experience.

Image
#34 - DF - Sunlight (Unicorn - Female) - 21 - Image Cloudsdale Flyers (EQS) - Uncapped
Yet another promising young defender brought along by Twilight Striker for the national team's qualifying campaign, Sunlight's selection is a clear indicator of the Equestrian manager's interest in giving her youthful prospects a chance at earning valuable international experience. Although not expected to see much time on the pitch, just training with players like Flitter, Brix Hamilton, and Andrea Molovi will be beneficial for Sunlight, and the pegasus defender could see her role with the senior team expand in the coming years.

Image
#28 - DF - Shady Daze (Earth Pony - Female) - 22 - Image Ponyville United (EQS) - Uncapped
Shady Daze's inclusion has surprised supporters and pundits alike, as the 22 year-old earth pony has yet to earn an international cap. More than likely selected due to her excellent form with Ponyville United in the last couple seasons, Shady Daze may not be likely to ever start for the Equestrian national team, but will surely find her way back onto the team in future campaigns if Twilight Striker's assessment of her potential is accurate.

Midfielders
Image
#9 - MF - Rainbow Blitz (Pegasus - Male) - 25 - Image Makosile United (VIL) - 115 Caps, 62 Assists, 54 Goals
- Former Captain of U21s, lead team at DBCs 26 & 27, leading scorer
- Already considered one of best Equestrian players of all time
- Routinely among best players in the elite Vilitan Stellar Division since signed at 19
- One of first Equestrians to succeed in foreign league
- Spent almost entire career with Makosile, one of club's star players
- Extremely dangerous due to speed and consistent high-quality performances
- Balanced skills as a AM, assists and goals leader
- Equestrian hoofball epitomized

Image
#2 - MF - Cloudchaser (Pegasus - Female) - 29 - Image Cloudsdale Flyers (EQS) - 170 Caps, 74 Assists, 50 Goals - VICE-CAPTAIN
- Sister of Flitter, star defender
- Very unselfish player, leader in locker room, promoted to vice-captain w/ S. Sparkle's retirement
- Assists galore, pinpoint accuracy
- Box-to-box midfielder, very fast, devastating on headers
- Started pro career with Cloudsdale Flyers, established as one of best midfielders in league with MF depth
- Transfer to Ituraitz FC (ASG), not entirely as planned, but still stood out as respectable player
- One of several displaced stars, decided to return to her roots while looking for a long-term home

Image
#4 - MF - Apple Jack (Earth Pony - Male) - 30 - Image Mardi Lopunnies (NSI) - 168 Caps, 39 Assists, 16 Goals
- Powerful, physical DM, would have done well as a CB
- Though smaller than most humans when standing on all four hooves, noticeably taller than fellow equines
- Impressive endurance even for a pony, deadliest late in match
- Long-time star for Mardi Lopunnies after starting career with Appleoosa HC, one of first ponies to play in foreign league

Image
#32 - MF - Krystal (Unicorn - Female) - 24 - Image Crystopolis City (CRY) - 40 Caps, 11 Assists, 8 Goals
- One third of midfield trio that led Little Ponies to 2 straight semifinals
- Very quick, but far superior ball control makes her difficult to stop
- Smaller stature (even for a pony) puts her at a slight disadvantage on headers
- Key player for Crystopolis City, leading club on unprecedented Globe Cup quarterfinals run
- Wooed by foreign clubs, but has opted to remain in United League
- One of top young Equestrian stars with an extraordinarily bright future.

Image
#34 - MF - Stardust (Pegasus - Female) - 24 - Image Iskara Daii (STB) - 42 Caps, 12 Assists, 7 Goals
- Third member of the midfield trio
- Rough career at club level, transfer to Umber Lumber only for club to struggle to meet expectations despite best efforts
- Recently demanded transfer, sold to storied Iskara Daii of Starblaydia where played a role in club's success
- Extremely fast sprinter, lethal counterattack
- Overshadowed by success of Rainbow Blitz and Krystal, but still a fearsome player on her own
- Must be tightly marked or risk leaving back exposed

Image
#5 - MF - Apple Cobbler (Earth Pony - Female) - 19 - Image Jungle Strike FC (VIL) - 13 Caps, 1 Assist, 2 Goals
That Apple Cobbler has been called up to the national team at the young age of 16 is a testament to how much talent and potential she has as a player. The impressiveness of the feat is only increased by the already existing plethora of Equestrian talent in the midfield. Though her lone cap thus far came in the final minutes of the Olympics group stage, Apple Cobbler has already begun to look capable of going hoof-to-toe with international level athletes. Over the next few years, Apple Cobbler seems likely to improve as a player and work towards a spot on the starting XI; but for now, she's with the Ponies mostly to learn.

Image
#15 - MF - Elaine Everdeen (Human - Female) - 25 - Image Granger Dragonites (NSI) - 30 Caps, 5 Assists, 2 Goals
The younger sister of veteran forward Katherine Everdeen, Elaine a promising star for the national team. With grace and agility, the younger Everdeen sister can race up and down the pitch at an impressive clip even in a nation of speedy equine midfielders. Though her endurance isn't nearly that of other Equestrian midfielders, Elaine Everdeen shouldn't be underestimated by her opponents. As a substitute, Elaine could be a lethal threat to teams already exhausted by the relentless Equestrian style of play and should be expected to come off the bench in the twilight of qualifying matches either to preserve a lead or give the Ponies another attacker.

Image
#11 - MF - Rapid Dash (Pegasus - Female) - 32 - Image Canterlot Royals (EQS) - 213 Caps, 94 Assists, 76 Goals
Rapid Dash began her career with the national team as a striker, but shifted to the midfield when Twilight Striker began to transform the national team's formation from a 3-4-3 to a 3-5-2. Since then, Rapid Dash's scoring numbers have declined, but she remains a threat to opponents on the attack as the national team's all-time assists leader. The sister of team captain Fire Dash, the pegasus has been a regular for the national team since the beginning and her abilities have kept her with the squad over the years.

Image
#25 - MF - Ironhide (Dragon - Male) - 26 - Image Selyne City Athenians (NSI) - 51 Caps, 6 Assists, 7 Goals
Apple Jack might be the largest pony in the Equestrian midfield, but the largest player is easily Ironhide. With a kick that can rival those of top Equestrian forwards, the dragon is a nightmare for opponents to cover. Though not as large as some of his kin, Ironhide's height and weight advantage cannot be understated, helping offset the generally smaller size of most players on the Equestrian national team. When Ironhide left Everfree Forest HC two seasons ago for the Selyne City Athenians, he was just one of many Equestrians venturing to the Sunrise League. However, over the next season he became much more than that, leading the Athenians to a league title and individually leading the league in scoring as well. But Ironhide was not yet finished. Riding the scaled back of the Equestrian dragon, the Selyne City Athenians stormed through every opponent en route to the most shocking Champions' Cup title of all time. Though currently slated to be a back-up, Ironhide will undoubtedly be Twilight Striker's first choice for a midfield substitution.

Image
#10 - FW - Fire Dash (Pegasus - Male) - 33 - Image Ponyville United (EQS) - 235 Caps, 32 Assists, 159 Goals - CAPTAIN
Team captain since its creation and all-time leader in caps and goals, Fire Dash is the unwavering leader of the national team both on and off the pitch. He might be getting older, but Fire Dash's numbers have never really felt the need to decline. As his name suggests, the Equestrian captain is fast. Very fast. Teams looking to beat the Equestrian States will have to cover Fire Dash well to shut down the Ponies' powerful offense, a task that has become only more difficult by the inclusion of Rainbow Blitz and Thunderlane on the squad. At the club level, Fire Dash has also been impressive, joining Starlight Sparkle in leading Ponyville United to six consecutive league titles and as far as the UICA Globe Cup group stage.

Image
#12 - FW - Pristina Shine (Unicorn - Female) - 23 - Image Red Star Severny (PIS) - 35 Caps, 1 Assist, 19 Goals
Pristina Shine's inclusion on the national team was anticipated by many, and the only surprise some have expressed is that she's not starting. When world-famous Iturributa United signed the young Equestrian forward to their team, the supporters were thrilled to finally see a pony starting for such a well-known club, but the move quickly became more than just a publicity stunt by the Iturributans. In one of the higher-ranked associations, on one of the best-known teams, Pristina Shine was a goal-scoring machine. By season's end the then 19 year-old Equestrian was third in the league in scoring, cementing her place on the national team. The Olympics were Pristina Shine's first challenge, and the unicorn exceeded all expectations once again. Averaging 0.67 goals per match, it's difficult to deny that the Equestrian States has yet another potential great on their team, adding a striker to complement the already-heralded midfield trio of Rainbow Blitz, Krystal, and Stardust.

Image
#7 - FW - Thunderlane (Pegasus - Male) - 29 - Image Makosile United (VIL) - 168 Caps, 27 Assists, 58 Goals
Although Thunderlane might not be the most imposing figure on the Ponies' offense, his value to the team comes primarily in his versatility. With the passing and control ability of a midfielder, and the shooting prowess of a striker, Thunderlane is a well-rounded player with his best years in front of him. Yet opponents facing Thunderlane often overlook his abilities, focusing instead on the more obvious dangers from Fire Dash and Rainbow Blitz. It is in these matches where Thunderlane excels, and when Thunderlane excels, the Ponies are an extremely difficult team to beat.

#30 - FW - Sonar (Bat Pony - Male) - 25 - Image Matthew City Senators (NSI) - 50 Caps, 6 Assists, 23 Goals
Young and talented, Sonar was the first bat pony to appear on the Ponies' roster and has since proven that his inclusion was no mistake by Twilight Striker. Sonar made his presence felt in both of the last two qualifying campaigns, scoring critical goals to give the Ponies the boost they needed to make it to the finals. The bat pony has spent most of his professional career with the Matthew City Senators, which has been a force near the top of the table for years thanks in part to Sonar's contributions.

Coaches & Staff
Image
Head Coach - Image Twilight Striker (Unicorn - Female) - 48
The head coach of the national team and perhaps the pony most responsible for its very existence is Twilight Striker. One of the first hoofball stars to ever capture the Equestrian public's hearts, Striker was a breathtaking forward in her day, but unfortunately was never able to wear the purple and orange as a player. But refusing to hold the endless delays of the administration against the Equestrian people, Twilight Striker agreed to coach the team in the Baptism of Fire and has been the Ponies' leader ever since. While she might not have the same prestige as other national team coaches from other top-ranked nations, Twilight Striker is more than competent and has a brilliant mind for offensive strategy.

Image
Assistant Coach - Image Hat Trix (Unicorn - Male) - 52
Along with Mad Dash and Twilight Striker, Hat Trix has remained with the Equestrian national team ever since he was brought on board by the former NESC to coach the team in the Baptism of Fire. While Hat Trix was a striker in his playing years, the unicorn has displayed a surprising ability to teach and hone the talents of the Equestrian defenders. Previous campaigns' struggles on defense have occasionally led to the media calling for his firing or reassignment to a more appropriate post, calls which increased drastically in the aftermath of the World Cup 64 finals.

Image
Assistant Coach - Image Pearly White (Earth Pony - Female) - 42
Description description description description description description description description description description description description description description description description description description description description description description description description description description description description description description.

Image
Goalkeeping Coach - Image Fire Blossom (Unicorn - Male) - 47
Training the talented Equestrian goalkeepers is Fire Blossom, whose exploits as a keeper in the EPL earned him much respect among hoofball fans nationwide. Though Fire Blossom rarely speaks to the media for any reason whatsoever, his early statements doubting Mac Stevenson's ability to replace High Soarin' back in World Cup 61 qualifying made him look like a genius when Stevenson's selection turned out to be one of Twilight Striker's greatest blunders. Likewise, predicting and guiding the development of Gentle Breeze into a true world-class goalkeeper have brought attention to Fire Blossom's eye for potential and knack for coaching.

Image
Scout - Image Diamond Star (Unicorn - Female) - 45
Few outside of the Equestrian States would be able to correctly identify the nation's top scout, but Diamond Star has a fairly impressive résumé, being the first to spot the potential of stars such as Rainbow Blitz, Pristina Shine, Cloudchaser, and Thunderlane. Diamond Star specializes in locating and recruiting domestic talent for the Equestrian national team.

Image
Scout - Image Golden Hooves (Earth Pony - Female) - 56
Unlike Diamond Star, Golden Hooves' talents lie more in scouting the abilities of foreign players and how they match up against those of the Ponies. The earth pony mare is particularly well-known for her recruiting of foreign prospects for the Canterlot Stars and Ponyville United clubs.

Image
Fitness Coach - Image Craig Jackson (Human - Male) - 45
Hired in the midst of the injury-filled disaster that was World Cup 63 qualifying, Craig Jackson was the first human member of the Ponies' staff and has done well in the last several years keeping the Equestrian States relatively injury-free. While fitness coaches generally don't get much respect or attention from the press, Jackson's natural gift for keeping players of so many species healthy cannot be overlooked or scoffed upon.

Team Strategy

Image

The Ponies' most-used formation is easily the slightly modified 3-5-2, preferred by Head Coach Twilight Striker because of the strength and dominance of the Equestrian midfielders. Thanks to the versatility of the Equestrian States' players, the formation gives the Ponies the ability to shift quickly from the offense to the defense and vice versa. Aside from the formation itself, the Equestrians have a number of definitive strengths and weaknesses.

First, the Ponies are among the world's fastest and most durable teams, using their natural advantages to tire out opponents. With those two traits as the defining characteristics of the Equestrian style of play, the squad excels at producing chances in the latter stages of the match. But while the attack dominates the second half, opposing squads have occasionally found success going all-out at the start of the match in an attempt to build an insurmountable lead.

Another area in which the Equestrian States has traditionally dominated is in the aerial battles for headers. While the Ponies are generally shorter than their opponents, the team is often credited with impressive leaping abilities (particularly among the pegasai players). Controlling headers makes the team lethal on corner kicks, and opponents looking to defeat the Equestrians must limit the number conceded to the Ponies or else face a barrage of dangerous short-range shots from the Ponies' attackers.

On Species and Equestrian Hoofball
The Equestrian States is a nation of incredible diversity. When many countries make this kind of statement, they are referring only to racial matters dealing with differences in skin color or culture. But the Equestrian States takes diversity to a whole new level, with dozens of sapient species living alongside each other in harmony. From pegasai to griffons, and humans to dragons, the Equestrian States is among the most diverse nations known to exist. But diversity has also had a unique and intriguing impact on the playing of sports in the Equestrian States, and hoofball is no exception. In the following paragraphs, the natural strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies of each prominent species in the Equestrian States will be explored, offering those unfamiliar with the Equestrian States a chance to explore the wonderful diversity that makes the Equestrian States a great country and gives our beloved national hoofball team a versatility that few others can hope to match.

Osarius Squad for World Cup 69

Team: Osarius National Football Team (aka "The Firebirds")
Style modifier: +1.5 (counter/possession-based attacking)

Manager: Jermain Lewis (64 years old)
Assistant Manager: Elissa Barca-Carthy (it's impolite to ask a lady's age)
Captain: Roque Acosta
Vice-captain: Ruby Fletcher
3rd captain: Ezio Grassi

Home stadium: Mount Crown Stadium, Burningham (cap. 98,000 all seated)
The Firebirds' home stadium is built at the foot of the imposing Mount Crown, on the outskirts of the capital city, Burningham. Fans are known for their extremely vocal support, and the Osarian national stadium has been described as a difficult place to play. The stats support this notion, as Osarius are undefeated, and have not failed to find the net there under Jermain Lewis. The most vociferous home fans are seated in a kop-esque stand built into the mountainside, with the huge, rocky face behind them adding to the intimidation. The pitch itself is usually made shorter, but wider than most, catering to the short midfield passing game of the Firebirds, and their frequent use of width. Long-ball teams will find it difficult to find space behind the defence, but teams making liberal use of wingers will likely flourish.

There are also two "special" kits, one is white with black and red flames on the front left, and the other is mostly gold (the traditional alternate kit colours) with a red and black bar across the middle, if neither of these is suitable. I'll make these eventually.

My RP Permissions are pretty chill to be honest.
Pretty much anything goes, I only ask that you let me decide the severity of any injuries you decide to RP for me, please.
Send my players off if you must -- if its a player I really didn't wanna lose for the next game, I'll RP an appeal or something.
Oh and at the risk of sounding a bit "RAWR" ... do not kill any of my players or coaching staff (unless I say go ahead via TG).
Killing fans is okay though. Go nuts with that if you like.

Most likely to...
Score a goal: Ezio Grassi, Nathaniel Doherty or Wesley Kane (in that order)
Create that goal: Toby Drummond or Sergio Mora
Win a free kick: Toby Drummond or Nathaniel Doherty
Take (and score) that free kick: Roque Acosta or Sergio Mora
Win a penalty: Ezio Grassi or Nathaniel Doherty
Take (and score) that penalty: Toby Drummond or Angelica Capiello
Miss a penalty: Arturo Monte (for some reason he's just terrible at them)
Score a header off a set piece: Emanuele Riviello or George Spencer
Score an own goal: Emanuele Riviello
Hack an opponent down: George "Snappy" Spencer
Lose their head and get sent off: George "Psycho" Spencer (you'd think he'd have calmed dow by now, right?)
Commit a professional foul: Felix Victor or Efrain Suarez (because he often rushes off his line)
Argue with the referee: Nathaniel Doherty or Tobias Clarke
"Disappear" during a match: Yazmin Velásquez has been known to...
"Put in a shift": Roque Acosta, Paolo Bocchetti or Emilio Tapia
Have an elaborate goal celebration planned out: normally, nobody... but Nathaniel Doherty is the team prankster
Get caught stumbling out of a nightclub: Well, it's rumoured that Giorgia Caruso's fall down the pecking order...
Do charity work: This younger squad seems more concerned with investing, though Clemente Jaconelli donated his fee to charity on account of his "subpar performance"
Elicit marriage proposals from fans: Ruby Fletcher or Sergio Mora

Firstly, the NSWiki page is no longer accessible... I'll see about fixing that as soon as possible. Sorry!

It's important to note that the team itself generally doesn't consciously defend. They press high up the pitch though and try to win the ball back as quickly as possible, sometimes over-committing, and leaving themselves vulnerable to a swift counterattack. Generally pacy defenders help to alleviate this problem somewhat.

They will also slow down when ahead later in the game, but only so they don't unnecessarily provide opportunities to lose possession and/or concede. This doesn't mean they wont take the opportunity to score if it presents itself, though...

The front line of three is often very flexible, with all three (usually) capable of playing in any of the front three roles at any given time. Most of the time, the centre forward/striker will remain the focal point of the team's central attacking, though, whether they are receiving passes or moving to make space for the wingers.

If there is an attacking midfielder on the pitch, they will likely operate as a "false ten" in tandem with a forward dropping deep (like a "false nine"). Effectively they will be most likely to get onto the end of passes in the final third, and thus score goals. Unless the forward is Ezio Grassi. Because he is Ezio "Goalmachine" Grassi. This normally means that if Toby Drummond is replaced by another midfielder, either they will be a playmaker, or Grassi is coming off soon too.

On the occasions no specifically named attacking midfielder is used, typically it is an indicator that the manager expects a tighter battle for possession in the midfield zone. In these situations, expect Acosta to push forward more often, while the third midfielder is a more defensively-inclined option, like Velásquez or Costello.

The fullbacks typically overlap a lot -- considering how often the wingers change sides and become "inverted" (i.e. cutting inside the defender on their stronger foot, rather than pulling wide) -- and seem to operate almost as advanced as wingbacks (or even midfielders against considerably weaker teams) a lot of the time, making the system a sort of like a 3-4-3 when Osarius attack, due to Capiello (usually) dropping deeper to counter against a potential playmaker "in the hole" for the opposition.

Set piece preferences (in order):
Corner kick takers: Whichever wingers/wide forwards are on the pitch
Penalty takers: Toby Drummond, Angelica Capiello, Ezio Grassi ... then just put forwards and midfielders before defenders for shootouts etc.
Free kick takers: Roque Acosta, Toby Drummond or Ezio Grassi
Long free kicks: A centre back (usually Riviello), or the goalkeeper (only really for offsides, really... or if Suarez starts)

You don't have to stick to all of that, though. It just fits in better with the way I intend to RP my team (when I can).

Something that is important to know is that football isnt the number on sport in Osarius. Its second, to GraviBall, though the gap is closing.

Footballers in Osarius are loved if they make tough tackles, because the combative nature of the game is what the majority of fans like most. Very passionate, are Osarian fans, you see. Sooo... basically, if you're not scoring goals or making crunching tackles, the fans generally aren't impressed. That goes for opponents too... Osarian fans always appreciate a good tackle, so they will even applaud opposition players at times (although they will boo their goals, obvs).

The complicated tactical systems used by modern Osarian teams are well-understood by the fans, and a growing football blogging community within Osarius often has in-depth tactical discussion, and regularly posters show great insight. This is thought to be the result of a general increase in coaching quality throughout the nation, which has also contributed heavily to the national team's increased degree of success in recent years.

From time to time I'll make reference to the area a player is from, and when I do, I will try to add an OOC note to explain what it means (if relevant), because different regions of Osarius have almost entirely different cultures. For example, Tubrissian people's habits and sayings are heavily based on Phoenician/Carthaginian culture and religious beliefs; Islanders -- those from Kyoshiku/Kholanaras Island in the south-west -- have a warrior-centric culture and are quite insular; many Ikutursans worship a malevolent, erisian, serpent deity... and so on.

Manager: Jermain Lewis
After so long with just one trophy (the Confederations Cup) to show for it, Jermain Lewis' addiction to winning must really be bothering him. Expect the master motivator to really get his team fired up for the World Cup this time around. Gone is the almost clinical, rehearsed adherence to his (admittedly effective) system. In ruthlessly axing some of his most trusted players, and bringing in so much "new blood", Lewis is signalling his intent. He needs fresh minds, who won't be as inclined to slip into old habits, or to stick too rigidly to the tactical maxims he is known to spout during training sessions. It is a throwback to the way his mentor, Benedict di Corradi, often attempted to refresh his side by introducing hungry youngsters with nothing to lose. Lewis, on the other hand, while still hungry, perhaps fears the loss of his lustre, the tarnishing of his legend. Now more than ever, the gaffer needs to lead his team forward, if not for everyone else, then for himself.

Assistant Manager: Elissa Barca-Carthy
The matriarch of Osarian football has announced her intention to retire at the end of the cycle, which might spur the team on to greater heights, as she's not afraid to let them know they disappointed her in her retirement speech. Likely with acerbic terms, in fact. Despite her tough demeanour and refusal to "sugar coat shit", she remains popular with this new generation of Osarian footballers. The rise to the upper echelon of global football has suited Ms Barca-Carthy well, with her theory of constant improvement, and her impact on certain players is abundantly clear (see: Jaconelli's harsh self-criticism after disappointing in the "preparation cycle").

Coaches: Georgina Carsley, Lorenzo Ruiz, Serenity Lewis, Jayson Dhanda, Ayanna Barca-Carthy

Carsley is the team's primary defensive coach, and well-known for her propensity for well-timed, crunching tackles during her playing days. While she and the gaffer have a good working relationship, she is far closer to Ms. Barca-Carthy, which can sometimes cause a bit of friction among the backroom staff. Carsley is devoted, however, to bettering the team in any way, and has had a positive impact on even attacking players' ability to win the ball. This, combined with the Firebirds' typically high pressure game, leads to more chances in the final third.

Ruiz and Dhanda, along with Ayanna Barca-Carthy and Serenity Lewis -- the assistant manager and manager's daughters respectively -- all played central midfield during their acclaimed professional careers, and all were important parts of the offensive phase for their respective national squads and club sides.

Of the four, Lorenzo Ruiz is the most defensive minded, often attacking from deep with long penetrative runs to shoot with a venomous left foot. His technical ability is held in extremely high regard even now, with Roque Acosta revealing that Ruiz can still trap a ball better than any member of the current squad. The former Utica midfielder's personal preference for trapping a high ball and bringing it forward calmly has rubbed off on the defenders in the squad, unfortunately, they are not quite as proficient at it as he was. Or still is, if Acosta is to be believed.

Dhanda's presence exemplifies Lewis' value of hard work. Another former Utica man, Dhanda led the Tubrissians for more than a decade, adding graft to the substantial amount of guile possessed by the team's youngsters and academy graduates. Not one of Dhanda's teammates throughout his lengthy career has ever contradicted the oft-repeated anecdote, explaining that the Tubrissian's reputation for being "the hardest working player ever" is unlikely to be much of an overstatement. This insatiable drive is something the gaffer had stressed should be present in all of his players, and those who fall short of the lofty expectations set by both Lewis and Dhanda will often find themselves languishing on the bench more often than not.

The other two coaches -- arguably the two best Osarian midfielders of a generation, though they seldom appeared on the same pitch -- operate much like their soon-to-be hall of fame parents, in that they complement each other perfectly. Serenity Lewis' blood and thunder, aggressive mentality is tempered well by Ayanna Barca-Carthy's calm, collected demeanour. The two wield such a great deal of influence in the dressing room and on the training pitch, they command one hundred percent focus in their sessions, passing on their vast wealth of experience and knowledge to the current squad.

Specialist Coaches: Lana Schroeder (goalkeeping), Claudio Traga (fitness)
Traga's constantly evolving fitness plans are immensely popular within Osarius -- it is estimated that 50% of all gym-goers or fitspos in the country follow one of them -- and his reputation is well-earned. His latest method, "mental fitness training", combines his vast knowledge of physical fitness with principles that he has proven -- to some extent -- to assist in the mental aspect of the game. Schroeder's extensive knowledge of the goalkeeper position, has been well utilised by Jermain Lewis. It's not easy to step up and replace probably the best goalkeeping coach in the country since the legendary Enzo Corradini. Particularly not when you're a woman in a sport dominated by men. Schroeder has had no such trouble, however. Her expertise has commanded respect and attention from the most promising custodians Osarius has to offer, and she no doubt seeks to help them become legends in their own right.

Medical Staff: Dr. Clara Cormega (physiotherapist), Dr. Vite Karusiki (team doctor)
Dr. Cormega has quickly formed a strong rapport with key members of the squad, likely due to her sometimes unorthodox, but always effective methods. After having she has spent the better part of the past decade learning from her predecessor and completing her PhD last autumn, Dr. Cormega has combined her knowledge and experience with that of her husband -- Grasshoppers Turic manager Roberto -- to play a significant role in the minimising of injury within the Osarius camp. In a similar vein, Dr. Karusiki's openness to new ideas and strong familiarity with athletic injuries have proven invaluable traits. The two have a strong working relationship, and having both graduated from Utica University, they share something of a bond. Dr. Karusiki's expertise appear to extend beyond the typical medical doctor's remit, however, as he has taken on something of a counselling role; much like his predecessor.

The Squad

As is customary, Jermain Lewis has named a "pool" of players from which he will select each matchday squad. Higher numbers correspond to players less likely to appear in a given match. The list will be edited later to reflect the final twenty-three players selected for the World Cup finals squad.

APOX WORLD CUP 69 ROSTER

Manager: Magnus Fjelden (PIS), Aged 67
Assistant Manager: Gavin Hughes, Aged: 40
Style: -1

Spiel: This is it then. A World Cup on home soil. Magnus Fjelden will therefore be hoping the team of incredibly talented but quite youthful and inexperienced players he’s assembled can perform on the biggest stage, in Magnus Fjelden’s last tournament as manager. This is Matthias Sindelar and Han Nielssen’s last international tournament, as well as probably being Jack Moses’ last as well, and that alone should inspire the team. There are 4 changes from the squad which entered the Campionato, and they are all exciting prospects. Also worth noting are the presence of 5 female players on the squad now. Still too great an imbalance, but much better than before.

Team Record: 125-48-51

Starting XI (Sub caps in brackets)

GK: Ettie Seabrooke - Aged 31 - Image Gwinevra Barbarians - 34 (1) Caps - VICE-CAPTAIN
Ettie is now the established goalkeeper of the side, and she is at the peak of her ability, as goalkeepers usually peak later than other players. Still with not many caps due to the lack of qualifying Apox had to go through this year, Ettie has plenty of practise with the highly competitive Gwinevra Barbarians - usually getting the Golden Glove each season.

RD: Jack Lerryn - Aged 28 - Image Barbury Town - 39 Caps, 1 Goal
Jack Lerryn is the player who sums up Barbury’s rise perfectly. He was a youngster when they were promoted all those years ago, given faith by Ken Rickwright, and he, like the team has grown and grown in confidence. Now at the peak of his career, his stamina in games in phenomenal, he is continually running throughout the 90 minutes, whether that be in tackling and breaking down an opposition attack, or pushing forwards to see if he can help instigate an Apoxian attack on goal. Despite the relatively low number of caps, he is very much one of the veterans of the team now, and his experience at the back will be crucial.

CD: Solomon Etezadi - Aged 24 - Image Mâ Alâmëómë - 37 Caps, 3 Goals
Solomon Etezadi is one of the best products to come out of Issington’s impressive youth academy in the last few years. Aged only 24, he is already a key player. He is the rock in defense, marshalling the line, hassling the opposition forwards, there to make that crucial tackle, good in the air. At Issington for the early years of his career, until a big money move to Farf super-club Mâ Alâmëómë was enough to persuade him to leave.

CD: Nicolas St Teath - Aged 25 - Image Dwile Warriors - 19 (2) Caps
Nicolas St Teath is probably the player who Exton built their rise to international competition standard around. Now at top team Dwile Warriors, St Teath learnt his craft the hard way, battling against the best in the division. Quite a quiet lad, he learns exceptionally quickly and picks up new skills convincingly. Having stolen a spot in the starting line-up for the Campionato, he’s managed to keep it for the World Cup finals.

LD: Ben Hatem - Aged 28 - Image Urbanista - 10 (2) Caps
Ben Hatem, now at Urbanista after a clever move from Wrexton a number of seasons ago, has finally had his patience rewarded after a number of years as Hans Nielssen’s back-up, and finds himself in the starting XI for the national team. Something of a wing-back, Fjelden will be hoping to see him bring his inspired runs to the national team, and will have to hope he keeps the balance right to avoid defensive frailties as a result.

DM: Matthias Sindelar - Aged 36 - Image Barbury Town - 69 (7) Caps, 10 Goals - CAPTAIN
The captain and shining light of the side, Matthias Sindelar matured late as a player, making his national team debut at the age of 25. However, he was quickly made captain of the team once his ability to control the game from the middle was discovered. A versatile player, he is able to play in midfield and defense as well as his preferred defensive midfielder position, where he has the correct blend of attacking and defending to suit him. He is able to pick up a run anywhere across the pitch, and he is very accurate when undertaking long range passes, something no doubt honed by years of taking free kicks and penalties. This will likely be his last tournament with the national team, and while he is nominally in the starting line-up, he will likely swap in and out with Ulrika Kinlasson in the holding midfielder position.

RM: Marcus Redwood - Aged 30 - Image FC Endeavour - 23 Caps, 2 Goals
Now the first choice starting right midfielder, Redwood is a good leadership figure, being captain of his club side, FC Endeavour. He is not the fastest winger in the world, but he makes up for is with his good skills, the ball often times appears glued to his feet. He is also known for making good runs in field, before offloading to someone, giving them a good chance of scoring due to dragging the defense out of position.

CM: Jack Moses - Aged 33 - Image RSK Longyearbyen Town - 80 (5) Caps, 15 Goals
Jack Moses is the solo centre midfielder in the team now, and is the kind of player who can really go deep into the opposition half and make it look easy. This is in no small part down to him playing the toughest league in the World - the Divisjon 1. Not only does he play there, but he plays well, being the first Apoxian to go to the Islandstates, and being in the top 5 best overseas player list twice and in the top 5 players overall once. He is the highest caps holder currently on the team, and he’ll likely be a part of the national team until he retires, which is not far away now. Narrowly edged out the younger Armando Quillisi for the starting position, although he’ll likely swap in and out with Quillisi quite a bit.

LM: Kaj Aurora - Aged 22 - Image Mâ Alâmëómë - 29 Caps, 4 Goals
The Golden Girl of the current generation of Apoxian footballers. She made her debut aged just 18 with the national team, the second youngest player to do so (only Will Fich was younger). Since then she has moved to Farfadillis where she has impressed greatly, gaining a move to top club Mâ Alâmëómë. Her pace and stamina down the wing are to her credit and despite being quite a diminutive player, she has great strength on the ball, making her skills as a winger all the more important.

ST: Tolgus Tregajorran - Aged 29 - Image Dwile Warriors - 54 (4) Caps, 31 Goals
Tolgus Tregajorran is the team’s star striker, following in the lines of such famous names as Dravid Scott, Chris Maarsden and Keri Ularu. And yet, Tregajorran could surpass them all. On 31 goals, he’s more than halfway to Dravid Scott’s goalscoring mark, and Tregajorran has got years ahead of him in the national side. He’s only 1 goal behind Chris Maarsden in 2nd place.. He is the all round striker, and could challenge any other for a place as the best striker in the multiverse.

ST: Martin Roskorwell - Aged 28 - Image SK Aasiaat Harbour - 25 (2) Caps, 9 Goals
Martin Roskorwell is a player at his peak - lighting up Divisjon 1 in the few seasons he’s been there since moving from Exton F.C, a club he helped to improve massively from relegation fighters to UICA contenders. Roskorwell is the classic striker, tall, lanky, good in the air, and although he had to wait to have his chance to shine, waiting behind Tregajorran for years, the move to two strikers in the national team allows for him to take his place in the starting line-up finally.

Reserves
GK: John Lockwood - Aged 27 - Image Urbanista - 9 Caps
John Lockwood is the second goalie, after biding his time patiently behind Joe Frost for many years. Lockwood has improved, and having now been through a tough season with Urbanista two years ago, has become more impressive as a result. However, he has been known to make the odd mistake when in goal, and that is why Ettie Seabrooke is currently ahead of him in the pecking order.

GK: Alan Eustathios - Aged 23 - Image Barbury Town - 1 Cap
Alan Eustathios has performed excellently, joining the first team just as Barbury Town were beginning their rise from UICA hopefuls to title winning mega squad. It is hard to believe Alan is still so young, after how well he’s performed with Barbury in recent years. However, this domestic success should help him out in international competitions, and with the addition of Eustathios to the squad, Apox have a frighteningly good set of goalkeepers to choose from now.

CD: Isner - Aged 29 - Image Bastion - 22 (5) Caps
Half Sunrisian, Isner is a tough rugged defender, sometimes aggressive, sometimes a little wild. He must now content himself with being the back-up centre defender for the squad, but he has matured into a solid player at the back, giving Fjelden extra options to choose from.

LD: Hans Nielssen - Aged 33 - Image Granger Dragonites - 75 (7) Caps, 3 Goals
One of the more experienced players in the team, Hans has made the left back position his own over the last few cups, and he is a key player for the team now. Moving from Mandon United to Arka Snezhnaya in Mytannion, he has continued to improve, having had success in Mytannion before moving to Granger Dragonites in the Northern Sunrise Islands following the collapse of the Mytanar league. This will likely be his last tournament in the side, and, sadly for him, he’ll be spending it on the bench.

CM: Armando Quillisi - Aged 28 - Image Urbanista - 42 (9) Caps, 4 Goals
Armando holds the honour of being the first son to play for the national team - his father Jon Quillisi has one sub cap to his name in the Romili Cup, alas for him the National Team came just too late. However, while Jon was a superb footballer, there is talk of his son being even better, and the current captain of Urbanista is out to prove just that. Armando is a decent free-kick taker and is very versatile in his skills, working hard not to shine all the time, but be so essential that he’s only missed when he’s not playing.

ST: Corinna McKenna - Aged 22 - Image FC Brimstone - 1 (1) Cap
Corinna is the 4th striker called up to the squad, and is unlikely to actually receive any playing time based on the calibre of the players above her in the pecking order. However, in three seasons of ANL play, she has been a sensational player, and she has led Urbanista Trojans very well in that time. With a transfer to the suddenly competant looking FC Brimstone, she will hope she can continue her upward trajectory. This has happened internationally as well, Corinna moving from being on the fringes of the national team, to now being very much in the squad.

ST: Adnan Zozula - Aged 22 - Image Wye United - 6 (2) Caps, 2 Goals
Adnan is a precocious young talent for his country and his club, Wye United. The fact that he is still there is testament to his loyalty to the club, although that may be tested after two impressive seasons with Wye in the top tier. He is a very pacy player, skilful on the ball, good ball control and impressive game awareness for one so young. It is clear he will be a big part of the national team’s future, though for now he must be content to sit behind the Tolgus Tregajorran and Martin Roskorwell on the bench. He’ll get game time though, that’s not in doubt, and when he does, it will be exciting.

RD: Eneko Treloquithack - Aged 23 - Image Dwile Warriors - 2 (1) Caps, 1 Goal
Eneko Treloquithack has had a varied career thus far, breaking into the first team at Urbanista Trojans, going out on loan to the Licentian Isles, converting to right back from his original position of left back. Now, with a big money transfer to Dwile Warriors, the biggest club in Apox, his career is really taking off. He is a unique player, and his style is difficult to describe. He will occasionally forget that he is a defender and go on something of a rampage up the pitch. He could be exceptionally good, but first he must learn to control himself and commit to defending. Although as an attacker he isn’t bad, his wonder-goal on debut against Paradystopia is proof of this.

CD/DM: Ulrika Kinlasson - Aged 20 - Image 1830 Cathair - 2 Caps
Kinlasson is another very talented young player, spending a season as the stand out player for Wrexton F.C, before moving to Audioslavian heavyweights 1830 Cathair in the LigAnaia for the last season. She performed admirably there in centre defense, although she will likely be used as a substitute for Matthias Sindelar in this World Cup. She’ll have big boots to fill when Sindelar retires, but she should do admirably.

RM: Alice Monteforth - Aged 27 - Image Gwinevra Barbarians - 1 Cap
After being the captain of Mulhampstead, and their star player for a number of seasons, Alice Monteforth jumped ship to the slowly resurgent Gwinevra Barbarians last season after Mulhampstead’s relegation, and what an impressive season she had. A very positive player, she’ll look to get the ball forward and create opportunities, rather than pass it around the back a bit.

CM: Wifried Lidgley - Aged 27 - Image 1830 Cathair - 2 Caps
Lidgley continues in the squad after two very successful seasons in the LigAnaia, the man they call, “The Lidge”, continuing to tear up the league with 1830 Cathair. It is a high point in his story, discarded by Gwinevra Barbarians several seasons ago, struggling to find a place in the ANL, he appears to have finally settled somewhere.

LM: Jesper Lee Coleman - Age 22 - Image Gwinevra Barbarians - 3 (1) Caps
Another exciting player for the future, Jesper Lee Coleman has had a good couple of seasons with Gwinevra Barbarians as the team slowly rebuilds to launch another sustained assault on the top of the ANL. He probably won’t get many minutes though, as Kaj Aurora is the starter in his position, and she is the same age and the better player (though both have played for Gwinevra Barbarians.)

THE HOLY EMPIRE WC 69 SQUAD

While the nation took a long break from WCs 8 through 24, the Holy Empire is proud to be the only active nation to have participated in WC1.

It is equally proud to be your co-host for the present tournament.

OOC: IMPORTANT RP DETAIL

All matches played against the Holy Empire in the Imperial Hippodrome (and the Empire will play all of its matches in the 'Drome) will take place in black and white. Outside of the ground, everything will be in normal colour, but the football match (and crowd) will be in "Victorian greyscale". The home supporters will also be dressed in high-Victorian top-hatted and monocled (and, where relevant, corsetted) style. Your team and supporters will still be in their usual outfits - just in black and white.

So the match will take place as if viewed through vintage black and white footage between one team in old-fashioned outfits and one team in modern football kits, with the majority of the crowd looking as old-fashioned as the team they're supporting, and a knot of supporters in modern dress at one end of the stadium.

Style Modifiers / formation

Frosty football is attacking football. The Holy Empire always plays a 3-5-2 formation using overlapping wingers that turns into 3-3-4 on the counterattack.

OOC'ly, for the purposes of scorination, the team uses the maximum attacking style modifier permitted by each cup's hosts; so that would be +5, then.

Lineup

Isaac, Prince Imperial --- Lord Dundonald-D'eath

Dux Darcy de Knayth --- His Magnificencenessnessness --- Lord Waldegrave --- "Knicker-Twister" FitzThomas --- Strategos Trevelyan-Tyrwhitt

Featherstonhaugh-Fuchs --- Fin-tim-lin-bin-whin-bim-lim-bus-stop-F'tang-F'tang-Olé-Biscuitbarrel --- Browne

Smythington-Foxe

Coaches:

The team coach remains World Cup Hall of Fame legend Juan Tzimisces.

The assistant coach is Starblaydi World Cup Hall of Fame legend Simeone Di Bradini.

Kit
The team will wear famous Imperial Gold and Red, as worn by the Holy Empire since WC1

The thing is, they'll be wearing it in black and white, and as Victorian sporting clothes; so it'll look like a light grey long-sleeved shirt above darker grey knickerbockers with varying shades of grey trim.

A spoilered version of the modern colour kit is included for reference, and because the Hippodrome's exterior will still be displaying these colours for matches involving the Empire.
