Developed by The Babbage Islands, Babbage rules football, also called Babbage code, is a variant of American football developed for play by mixed teams of both male and female players. It is played primarily in the Babbage Islands, although it has started to spread to other nations. Newmanistan and later Darmen have the best records in international play.

Babbage code is a non-contact code of flag football, whereby a play is ended not by tackling but by the removal of a standard flag from the belt of the ball carrier. Six players are on the field for each team, three male and three female. Kicking has been eliminated, and special rules restricting male players on offense bring players of both sexes more fully into play.It is distinctive mainly for being noncontact.

The sport of Babbage held its championship under the McLeod Cup for 8 editions. For over a year, Babbage Rules has been absent from the NS Sports community. However, with THE MEMORIAL CUP, it will now make its return.

I am expecting at least 16 sign-ups for this first edition, though I will accommodate lower numbers as well as long as there is a demonstrated interest, and will allow host bids in the case that people truly do want to bid to host the event. In the event that there are no host bids, I will automatically host this first edition.

Puppets will be allowed, but will be the first removed to make numbers work. All puppets must be confirmed. If one is caught with an unconfirmed puppet, they are banned from the current and following edition .

Simply saying "XYZ Signs Up" is enough to participate at this time. Please list any questions or concerns as well.

A host bid is a possibility, though not a certainty (last time I hosted anything went terribly and led to me leaving NS... but that was scorinating a Rushmori Games that nobody RPed while dealing with a broken PC, and there's no faster way to get disillusioned than that).

Vettrera's Proposed Bid/Format

The Provincial Coalition of Vettrera is a large nation located in the Northeastern area of Bethel Park (OOC: This tournament will be the last one hosted by me unti "Vettrera" officially moves to Esportiva later in June, which corresponds with me receiving a map claim) & owning protectorates/territory in Atlantian Oceania . The nation has a rich sporting history, but has not been very successful when it comes to association football. Years ago, the nation made a concerted effort to invest in its sporting programs in an attempt to bring prestige, revenue, and tourism to Vettrera. This program, called PUSH, brought Vettrera closer to the forefront of international sporting. Since PUSH's reformation, Vettrera has hosted the 7th U15 World Cup and has hosted the Fifth International Baseball Slam in the protectorates of Oakbrook and Calvarie.

Vettrera currently boasts a Babbage Football Federation made up of 22 teams, meaning it is one of the largest domestic babbage leagues in the multiverse, therefore it is no surprise that Vettrera would like to host the Memorial Cup. As far as stadia are concerned, teams will be dispersed across Vettrera and compete inside the VBF stadiums. More info on the specific stadiums will be added later, but we expect the competition to be held in Vettrera's central 4 provinces (Polluxia, Castor, Aeolus, Vicette).

OOC:
Scorination will be done via xkoranate as it is the only modern scorinator that currently offers the sport. RPs will be graded on a 0-2 scale for the course of this tournament. Quality will outweigh Quantity, but please note that simple three sentence summaries are not likely to earn much credit. There will be a 6PM - 6:30 PM cutoff window concerning said RPs.

FORMATS
Because this is the first edition of the Memorial Cup (and first Babbage Rules tournament in well over a year), it is hard to gauge exactly how many people will join. With that said, I do expect us to reach 16 teams (in case we do not, I will supply additional formats to make them work with the numbers we are given)

The 16 team format is as follows

Teams are put into 4 groups of 4 and compete in a single round robin with the top two in each group advancing to the final 8. From there, a seeded knockout stage will be used with the top 4 advancing into the final stage of the tournament. At the final stage of the tournament, all of the four remaining teams will compete in a single round robin to determine the final placings for the tournament
