Aurora Cup 2014 (Aurora Only)

Postby Seahold » Sat May 17, 2014 4:58 am

The Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Grand Duchy of Seahold, in association with SeaSteel, Seahold Daily News, TeamWeekly and Raider's Mead, presents...

Image

This association football tournament is open to a maximum of nine football teams from Aurora, in addition to the home team of the Grand Duchy of Seahold.

Known for having been, throughout its history, a den of raiders and warlords, an absolute monarchy with theocratic undertones and an absolute monarchy with totalitarian undertones, the Grand Duchy of Seahold has made considerable progress on every front ever since the coronation of the late Grand Duke Wiglaf II in 1982; the kind of progress the former backwater of Aurora wants to show to the rest of the region.

THE STADIUMS

Five stadiums have been chosen to host the tournament's games:

Image

Carcosa's Football Stadium is the home field of the Carcosa Kings, and it can seat 9.000 people. The city itself is famed for its religious architecture - the local cathedral is the biggest in Seahold, and it hosts the remains of Seahold's patron saint, Alaric.

Image

Greenborough's Macaw Stadium is the home field of the Greenborough Conquerors, and it can seat 18.000 people. The capital and most populated city of Seahold, Greenborough is a popular tourist destination because of its beaches, colourful buildings and picturesque streets, as well as its clubs, the destination of wild party-goers from all over Aurora.

Image

Thorvik's Hrothvaldr I Arena is the home field of the Thorvik Berserkers, and it can seat 16.000 people. The seat of the House of Seahold from its origins in the 10th century to the 15th century, it hosts a wide variety of archaeological remains and ancient buildings dating back to the first years of Anglican settlement on the islands, as well as the fortress of Seahold itself, a simple but strong keep by the sea built for the former pirate Hrothvaldr the Cruel, ancestor of the royal family.

Image

Gislaham's New Arena is the home field of the Gislaham Dolphins, and it can seat 6.000 people. Gislaham, despite being the capital of the Duchy of Blaewenabrim, is a small and quaint town of fishermen best known in Seahold for having the best smoked fish of the whole archipelago.

Image

Chaguaramas' Moon Stadium is the home field of the Chaguaramas Chiefs, and it can seat 10.000 people. Chaguaramas, just like the other cities in its region, has a native majority (63% of the population according to the latest census) and is markedly different from the rest of the country in architecture and culture, despite the repeated attempts some past Grand Dukes made to destroy the local identity.

THE HOME TEAM

Soccer is a new arrival in the Grand Duchy: the first team was founded in Greenborough in 1995, and since then it has become quite popular among the youth of the biggest cities, but it is still shunned and considered "foreign" everywhere else. Because of this, the average age of the Seaholder national team is quite low, players of mixed heritage or Seahold-born sons of immigrants abound, and no one is a professional player.

THE TOURNAMENT

I will use the latest version of xkoranate.

Each team has also a style, going from -5 (all-out defense) to +5 (all-out offense).

Also, this:

Should my opponent RP first, he/she may do the following:
Choose my scorers: Y/N
Godmod scoring events: Y/N
RP injuries to my players: Y/N
Godmod injuries to my players: Y/N
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Y/N
Hand out red cards to my players: Y/N
Godmod other events: Y/N

RP posts will be awarded bonus points.

Since I don't know how many nations will take part in the Aurora Cup yet (even though I already know who will surely take part in it) I will wait before writing a schedule.

Oh, I almost forgot. Seahold is -2, and I will allow whoever RPs against me first to do whatever they want.

The Anglican National Association Football Team
The Black Coats

Skill Level: 0.4
Style: -4

Association Football has been present in Anglican life for centuries, but this does not show on the scoreboards. Regnum Albion is a nation famed for and obsessed with rugby and cricket, and these are what dominate the interests of ordinary Anglicans from their formative years up till their dying days. Between these two behemoths of the Anglican sporting world and Association Football are athletics, rowing, cycling, tennis, Eton Fives, cross country running, and skiing. This places association football as only the tenth most popular sport in the Crown Commonwealth, and so few players truly excel internationally. The Aurora Cup, however, is a chance for football in Regnum Albion to make its mark on the sporting calendar, and inspire interest from all over the country. The Anglican National Team, the Black Coats, who follow in the footsteps of a great many Anglican sporting teams in donning the black for King and Country, are not renowned for success, nor are they followed much outside of specialist football circles, but the tournament in Seahold will offer them a chance to shine and to take the attention away from the usual spectator sports of the Crown Commonwealth.

The all-black football kit is the same as the Anglican national rugby team's strip. Change Kit substitutes a white shirt.

Official Roster for Aurora Cup 2014

Mizuyuki under Shirakiin Kurumi's tutelage has been a revolution so far. After Shirakiin took Ishikawa's place for the Market Cup held in Mapletish, she masterfully led the team to a long run in the tournament, culminating in a pulsating 3-2 victory over a strong Ko-oren outfit in the final and lifting the Nova's first ever piece of silverware in the process.

Shirakiin is a very ideological coach when it comes to football strategy and tactics; as such, she has persevered with her brand of attacking, creative football throughout her reign at the top of Mizuyuki's footballing hierarchy. Shirakiin heavily emphasises the rapid recycling of possession from the back - it's not uncommon to see the ball being passed quickly from the defence to the midfield or forward line after possession is gained, without any dithering on the ball. However, there is a distinct personality to the team's attacking play - Mizuyuki usually breaks rapidly down the flanks before cutting into the middle. This can give them some trouble when they come up against a team who prioritises the battle for the center of the park, but in that case the two inverted wingers will switch flanks and start to bomb crosses in from wide with their favoured foot - the same goes for the wingbacks. The philosophy of Total Football is also given priority in Shirakiin's system, and Mizuyuki's players will regularly switch positions during open play, so a wingback may appear in the forward line, and a striker might track back to defend while leaving a winger up front as an auxiliary forward.
