Alparia 23, Gregoryisgodistan 44

"Hello, I'm Sportscaser LMZ0102APZA, and welcome to World Bowl XXIII, the group stage, featuring Gregoryisgodistan and Alparia. It's a glorious day here in Alparia for the game, so let's get started. The Grid Slaves won the coin toss and have deferred, so Mathematics Teacher 2737ASH will kick it away. It's a booming kick and it will be a touchback. No return. It will come out to the 20.

...

"First play from scrimmage, Barnes drops back to pass, looks left, looks right, now gets sacked by Enemy Crusher Yorgen von Streudel for a loss of six. Big play there by the defensive tackle. The Grid Slaves defense is back in full force. Second and 16 now, and Barnes will again drop back to pass, the Grid Slaves send five, Barnes throws left and it's picked off by Defected New York Jet Darrelle Revis at the 25, he runs upfield and it's a pick six. Touchdown Grid Slaves. Already Gregoryisgodistan is ahead and the fans are in shock. Surprisingly, it will be an extra point, and the kick is up and good. 7-0 Gregoryisgodistan.

...

"5:02 left in the first quarter, Zookeeper ZNZ949AHX drops back to pass from his own 15, throws upfield and it's picked off by Johnathan Taite at the 27. He'll be forced out of bounds right there, but it's Alparia ball and they have a great chance to tie the game.

...

"Third and four at the 21, and Barnes drops back to pass. He is sacked by Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino at the 28 and Alparia will have to settle for a field goal. Etienne's kick is up and good, 7-3 Grid Slaves.

"Here's the kickoff by Etienne, taken by Navy SuperAdmiral Q-Bert McFee at his own 10. He runs right to the 15, 20, 30, 40, gets a block and he's at midfield. At the 40, 35, only the kicker to beat and he gets by him. He will take it to the end zone. Touchdown Grid Slaves! Here comes the kicker for the PAT and it's good. 14-3 Gregoryisgodistan.

...

"11:09 left in the second quarter and it's Alparia ball at the Gregoryisgodistan 30, they're finally managing to drive. Barnes hands it off to Cinder who runs right, gets a block is at the 20, 10, touchdown Alparia. With the PAT, it will be 14-10. A hard-fought battle.

...

"5:08 left in the second quarter, Barnes drops back to pass from his own 5 on third and 15, and the ball is stripped in the end zone by Enemy
Crusher Jurgen von Streudel. Defected Chicago Bear Brian Urlacher falls on it and it's a touchdown. Here comes the kicker for the PAT, it's good, and it's 21-10.

...

"With only a few seconds left in the second half, Alparia will attempt a 38 yard field goal. The kick is on the way, and it's good. That will make it 21-13 as we head to halftime, but don't forget that the Grid Slaves will get the ball to start the second half.

...

"Opening kickoff of the second half, taken by Navy SuperAdmiral Q-Bert McFee at the 5, runs to the 10, to the 20, breaks a tackle to the 30, to the 40, midfield, can he take it to the house again? He's at the 40, only the kicker to beat, takes an angle to get by him, but now will be forced out at the 12 yard line. First and ten for the Grid Slaves.

"Zookeeper ZNZ949AHX takes the snap and rolls right, now throws end zone for Tank Driver SUIERUA95, TOUCHDOWN! That will make it 28-13 with the PAT, which is good. Grid Slaves starting to pull away.

...

"6:15 in the third quarter left. Here is Barnes taking the snap on third and 7 at the Gregoryisgodistan 29, rolls left, throws, incomplete as it was batted away by Chef ASHBA13. Fourth down. The field goal is up from 46 yards, and it's good. 28-16.

...

"2:11 in the third quarter, Alparia has first and 10 at its own 15, the snap goes over Barnes' head as he lines up in the shotgun, he chases after it, but he'll just fall on it in the end zone for a safety rather than risk a Grid Slaves touchdown on the recovery. 30-16 Gregoryisgodistan. It's now a 14 point game and the Grid Slaves will receive the ball on the safety kick.

...

"12:38 in the fourth quarter, Alparia with second and 9 at its own 23, and Barnes drops back to throw, hit as he throws and it's going to be picked off by Defected Chicago Bear Brian Urlacher who might run it back for a touchdown. Nobody to stop him. 37-16 Grid Slaves, if they make the PAT. They do.

...

"5:31 in the game. 37-16 Grid Slaves. Barnes drops back to pass from his own 20, is hit from behind by Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino, the ball pops loose, and it will be fallen on at the 13 by Enemy Crusher Jorgen von Streudel. Grid Slaves ball. Now here's the handoff to Slavecatcher ZN39000ASD, runs right, he's going into the end zone. Touchdown Grid Slaves. 44-16. This one is pretty much over.

...

"And Gregoryisgodistan has pulled their defensive starters with 2:01 left in the game. Alparia has the ball at their own 41. Barnes drops back to pass, and will be sacked by Enemy Crusher Porky Fatana on his first play as a Grid Slave. Five yard loss. Alparia running no-huddle. Four wideouts and one tight end. Barnes throws deep down the left side, it will be caught by Christian Bedeau at the 10, but there's nobody there for the Grid Slaves and he will just walk in. Too little too late, however. Alparia will need to recover an onside kick and then hope for a miracle. 44-23.

"Here's the onside kick, it's going to be recovered by Soldier N2N4A917 with 1:38 left. Alparia has no timeouts left, so Gregoryisgodistan just needs to kneel three times and it's over. Great win for the Grid Slaves to open up this tournament."

Legend of The Great Battle Axe
Part 1: The Beginning

Year 25 TBM:The Control
Approximately 15 years passes after the first cutting tool was used to fell a tree. The Grove now covers three quarters of what will become known as Timbermunich and it continues to grow. The village which lived in the cave near the heart of the grove has now moved out of the cave as they have been able to somewhat control the tree growth with their new found ability to cut down the fern trees. The heart of the grove now contains full trees, which look nothing like the original fern trees the villagers first encountered when the grove started its expansion. The heart now contains several Oak trees which stand much taller than the surrounding trees and there are new types surrounding these Oaks. The outward growth is much of the original fern trees the villagers tried to pull and push from the ground in hopes they would not be trapped within their cave. The southern villages are now beginning to see the oncoming growth, to which they seem very concerned with and having no knowledge of what the northern village has accomplished during this time they too worry their God has sent this growth in response to something they have done.

Back in the northern village the man who first cut a fern tree and with the help of two elders toppled it over has now become head elder and is known as Battle. Battle is a rough individual with many scars which he received over the years of growth control, as he was the lead cutter when it came to this group. He found that by attaching the stone with a semi-point on it to a stick they could cut deeper into the fern trees with each hit making it much faster to knock them down. Battle was recorded as felling 40 fern trees in a single day, far surpassing any of the other growth controllers. Battle was often seen using two cutting tools at the same time, one in each hand, in order to chop faster and fell trees much quicker. Battle has long since stopped working with the growth controllers, has grown older himself and it is said the sap from those fern trees turned all of the hair on his body to a gleaming white, although he is the only one to develop this. He is also missing three fingers from his left arm, which was reported to have been lost while he was teaching a young new growth controller how to use one of his tools (known as a felling axe). The young growth controller, known as Willy, is Battles best pupil despite the fact that he cut off his masters three fingers. Willy took over as lead growth controller when Battle became head elder and is now working to develop an area for the village to expand into while staying near the heart of the grove. Battle has taught everything he knows to Willy and still helps him develop his felling skills, as even though Battle has moved on past being a growth controller he still (as head elder) oversees the growth controllers to ensure they are moving and maintaining an adequate clearing for the village. Willy has mastered his teacher’s main felling skills and like Battle uses the double axe method to drop trees quickly. Willy has also developed a new axe, the Double Bit-Felling Axe, an axe that has two blades on it. When Willy uses this axe he does not wield two axes, he rather uses a single axe with a slightly longer haft and grips it with both hands to swing it. He uses one side only for the trunk, while the other bit is used for limbs and roots when needed. Battle was very proud of his pupil when he found Willy created a new tool based off of Battles first single bit felling axe. Willy was soon chopping trees at nearly double the rate at which Battle could with his new axe and would help the trimmers by knocking off limbs with the other side of his axe head.

With his new skills, new axe, and the leadership of head elder Battle, Willy quickly made a clearing for the village to start building shelters as the more trees the growth controllers cut down the more villagers found uses for the lumber. One of those uses was in the form of huts, typically they used only main beams for huts and the other material from the tree would be used elsewhere. Many of the elders preceding Battles had developed medicine and herbal remedies from the cut trees, something that has helped the village survive. The sap from the original fern trees had also been found to have many healing properties in it, but as the grove expanded both outward and upward near the heart the availability of this sap seemed to diminish and this might be one of the reasons they started to use the hardwood sections to develop the new healing items. Now, with some medicine the villagers where living longer, thus their move from the cave and need for the huts. It seemed at this point the growth controllers had a good handle on the expansion of the forest in their area. Battle has been accredited with the vision to make the villagers stay near the heart of the grove and with the help of his prodigy Willy they have been able to control the growth.

To be continued…..

ESTENIA WINS QUEBEC IN THEIR FIRST FOOTBALL MATCH-08:00, the next morning

Yes it's a truth story and not just a lie. Our Estenian players won with the score 29-27 the 7th Greatest team on NationStates. It was hard for the players as they were losing in the first 2 quarters with a difference just below 3 points. In the third quarter Filipp made a tactic which Estenian players were doing only in the training. He said that they had to see the side where the lest Quebecians were and it actually worked. After the match there were the interviews and the coach said that he was happy and his boys didn't disapoint him as they said to him. Nikita and Filipp were the players of the match from the side of Estenia because Filipp scored 10 points and gave 2 tactics that worked and Nikita because he scored 7 point and gave the tactic of the match from the Estenian side. Nikita and Filipp also intervied and they said that they wanted to keep their word and never disapoint their coach. There's the interview of Nikita and Filipp.

Nikita and Filipp's interview 21:50 Murin Standard Time

Reporter Ekaterina Aleyeva: Hello Estenian People, I'm Ekaterina Aleyeva from the Sports News Channel, live from Murin,Capital Administrative Region. I'm here to interview the men of the match from the Estenian side Filipp Demidov and Nikita Ivanov. How do you fell that you won Quebec guys?
Filipp: We feel great that we succeed to this match and I would like to win more games, conscutively.
Nikita:I feel the same way that Filipp does and as he said we would like to win more games, conscutively.
Reporter EA: What are your prediction for your team, do you believe that you're going to finish in the first 3 or you believe that you're not going to be in the first 3 positions?
Nikita: I feel that we are going to finish 3rd where we are now.
Filipp: I have the feeling that we can go higher but let's see how the group's going first, you never know what's going next.
Reporter EA: In the next game you're going to the 27th ranked nation, New North Aqmuland what are your prediction for this game?
Filipp: I think that we are going to lose by a 3-point difference, but we have to try to see how this will go.
Nikita: We will win but with just a point difference and as Filipp said we have to try to see how this will go.
Reporter EA: Thanks for the interview guys and I hope I can interview you again.

After the interview Filipp and Nikita go to the bus to return to the Estenian National Team Hotel.

HopNation Handball
Throwing a Prolate Spheroid from End Zone to End Zone

The Group
Well now that’s an interesting start. Well Equestrian States and Karditan won, The Fire Ponies didn’t win by very much while the Ironworkers seemed to dismantle somebody were not sure who. But what is interesting is the HopNation/McKleigh match, sure it was separated by one point but were not sure how seeing as HopNation should have been the superior team. There are however a lot of games left so anything can, and is bound, to happen. At this time we are not making any predictions as to who will win the group although with the points put up by Karditan they seem to be an early favorite for that top spot. We’ll really need to watch those bottom tier teams as they will be the spoiler in this group.

The Teams
HopNation Malts @ Karditan
The Malts need to step things up if they want a chance at taking down Equestrian States or Karditan and they hope to do so against an a tough Karditan squad. We are being told that no changes have been made to the Malts roster despite their poor play against McKleigh. Karditan put up the most points from our group so our Malt Marauders will need to be at the top of their game in order to hold the score close.

The Game
Malt’s Schedule | Result | Malts’ Record
MD1: @ McKleigh | 16-17 | (0-1)
MD2: @ Karditan | ~-~ | (-)
MD3: vs Menukten | ~-~ | (-)
MD4: @ Equestrian States | ~-~ | (-)
MD5: @ Icatus | ~-~ | (-)
MD6: vs McKleigh | ~-~ | (-)
MD7: vs Karditan | ~-~ | (-)

MD9: vs Equestrian States | ~-~ | (-)
MD10: vs Icatus | ~-~ | (-)

Malts are home/away
Malts score listed first in all games
Malts record is post that game

The Malts took on McKleigh in their first game and did not travel well. The defense seemed to do their part and not allow a single offensive point to be scored on them, but our very own offense gave up the ball too many times and McKleigh was able to capitalize on it. Each of McKleigh’s scores came directly after a Malts offensive turn over, one pick-six, one fumble recovery for a score, and then a pick which resulted in a field goal. The Malt Marauders stood there ground and held the McKleigh offense to just 95 total yards, however they couldn’t produce enough turn overs for points. They had just one pick-six, then two more fumble recoveries of which only one resulted in a field goal. The other three points came off of a 53 yard field goal from Anderson Gouldie leaving the team just a point shy of forcing overtime. As for other stats on the game: Fran Bradanning threw for 125 yard, had two INTs and one fumble; AP Goreyou ran for 110 yards but was held out of the end zone; top receiver Deck Weswes had 80 yards receiving and like Goreyou was held out of the end zone. Defensively, Allen Mathistuck Pepper had four sacs and two forced fumbles; Singlebert Buttkis had 12 tackles, three for a loss; and Linch Tatum Charry had a pick-six. It might have been a fun game to watch for the fans but I know no one on the Malts team was happy with their effort and result. They wanted more and you could see it on their faces as they walked off the field with their helmets still on and heads hanging.

The Malts are up against a tough Karditan team next and it is again a road game, until then Brew on Brew well Hoptonians!

Title defense begins,
by Rachel Sharper, Concord Heights Times- Senior Editor

In not too long, Cassadaigua will be in a situation that not many nations have ever had a chance to be in: the opportunity to defend two world championships at the same time. While the preparations for International Basketball Championships 14 at home are pretty well known and getting the majority of the press time, World Bowl 23 is also under way. In both tournaments, we are the defending champions, giving me the opportunity to begin my first paragraph with a shameless bit of braggery.

Now, all kidding and gloating aside, it’s good to see Jessica Minor back on the field representing the national team once again. I hope you got the chance to read the piece that a former intern, Kristen McConnell, wrote in comparing her to Saintland’s King Petrus XX. Don’t worry, I didn’t cancel her internship, and in fact we hired her outright to work for the paper. So now, she is a paid employee, and she will be assigned to cover some road games during the group stage after the beginning of basketball, as I personally focus on covering the IBC. I thought that this was a very good overall comparison, and points to the difference that Minor and King Petrus have when not playing in the World Bowl. Jessica would seem to have it easier, as she plays at home in Concord Heights while King Petrus has to worry about things that a monarch has to cope with on a daily basis. Then again, it is probably easier to be a king, because if no one likes what you say or do, what are they gonna do, fire you? The comparison rightfully discounted all statistics, as King Petrus benefits from playing on a team that values offense above all else, while we are more of a defensive team. It makes you wonder a little bit how the King would fare in a Cassadagan offensive system, and how Jessica would in Saintland’s system. This is why pretty statistical numbers are not important. Minor did comment on the comparison saying, “I don’t have as cool of a day job, so he wins.” If you’ve never met her, that just about sums her up. Very laid back, very likeable, and becoming the new figurehead for Cassadagan athletes in any sport, that can be a true role model and not have any dark secrets surround her.

Play in Group A began with a game against Hutt River. They are not, as of right now, releasing the names of their players to the public, but we imagine that they had been researched pretty well based on their physical characteristics to know who they actually were. Hutt River is a nation that has been around a while, and is a successor to nation of Ipeland. You remember Ipeland, right? Yeah, the nation we co-hosted Baptism of Fire 47 with. We don’t know what really happened to them, but perhaps that provided some inspiration to their players early on because they got some points early. After Cassadaigua opened the game with a 72-yard drive that stalled in the red zone and settled for a field goal, Hutt River marched down the field, scored a touchdown, and successfully converted a 2-point conversion, to lead 8-3. Minor responded, and led the team downfield again, this time getting in the end zone on a 8-yard run by Crystal Amodeo. Still, Hutt River responded, and did exactly what they did on their first drive, and the score after the first quarter read a confusing 16-10, in favor of the visitors.

Things were better in the second quarter for the Fillies. Minor led the team efficiently downfield again, including a 32-yard scramble, something that is not usually part of her game. In fact, it would have topped her domestic career high, which is 29 yards. The scoring play was her first of what will be many TD passes in this World Bowl, connecting with Tracianne Christie from 6 yards out, to make it 17-16. Then another first of what will be many: an interception by Shannon Jackson which set up a 41-yard Adrienne Morales boot. Not wanting to be overshadowed, Kimberly Mason intercepted a pass on the next Hutt River possession, and this time the Dagans finished off the drive with a touchdown: a 14-yard pass from Minor to Chelsea Carrillo, to make it 27-16. Hutt River did not go quietly, and scored themselves just prior to halftime. Once again, they attempted a two-point conversion, and at least this time, it made some statistical sense, but the Fillies thwarted the try, and we went to the intermission, 27-22.

At halftime, you would expect a championship caliber team to make adjustments, and that is exactly what happened. Hutt River did not convert a single first down in the second half, until their final possession, which was in garbage time. In the meantime, Cassadaigua was efficient, and focused more on milking the clock with two scoring drives. The first, a 14-play drive for 75-yards, took 9 minutes off the clock (Crystal Amodeo 3 yard TD run), and the second, a 10-play 60-yard drive, which ended in just a field goal, took five minutes off. This made it 37-22, and the Dagans appeared to be on their way to score again, until two very questionable holding penalties, on consecutive downs, both nullified what would have been a Jessica Minor TD pass on each, and set the team back 10 yards. Furious about the calls even with just 2:41 remaining, coach Kaitlyn Rinaldi sent out Adrienne Morales to attempt a 55 yard FG instead of punting. “The refs weren’t going to keep us from scoring on that drive,” Rinaldi said after the game. Morales connected the field goal, and the Dagans were up 40-22. Hutt River managed their only first downs on a final minute drive that ended in a field goal of their own.

After the game, Rinaldi was happy with the win, but told us there are still things the team has to work on, “Overall, we played well. In some aspects, I would have liked to have seen less drives ending in field goals and more in touchdowns, but that didn’t matter as much today. It played like you would expect a first game to play out. There were some wrinkles, and they (Hutt River) were aggressive and executed some plays early and their fans got into it. Every nation that plays at this level can execute plays here and there. I do like that we were able to adjust and turn this into a pretty comfortable win.”

Cassadaigua opens up the home portion of the schedule with a game against Hamamatsu at Concord Heights Stadium next. Expect a pre-game ceremony to honor both defending champions: the football team, and the basketball team (as they soon will be playing too). Much pagentry and international cheerleading is expected!

McKleigh put on quite a performance yesterday as our Gingers defeated the HopNation Malt 17 to 16. While the Malts 225 yards of offense compared to our 95 yards may indicate that we stole a victory the opposite is actually true. MacTruck had to leave the game as a precaution after taking a hard hit to the head at the end of a 4 yard scramble early in the second. He was 9 of 15 for 44 yards passing with 9 yards in 3 attempts on the ground. His replacement, McHallen, was 5 of 15 for 16 yards and an int that resulted in HN's only TD. He also amasses a dreadful -59 yards rushing after being sacked 6 times, 4 times by Pepper. Luckily #7 Lucky McKurse came through with 74 yards on the ground on 16 carries. The big heroes of the day, and the biggest reason McKleigh did not need big offensive numbers, was O'Langfor had 72 yards on 3 KR and McNise had 71 yards on 2 KR and 129 yards on 5 PR. However poor QB play allowed HopNation to focus heavily on defending the run and kept us out of the endzone. There were still plenty of chances to score but Nigel Bruce went 1 for 5 on the day missing from 39, 42, 47, and 49 yards while making an easy 27 yard FG. We still came away with a win at home but the kicking game is going to have to improve drasticly.

Defensively we did well allowing only 225 yards on offense and shut down the Malts on special teams completly. Cristson had 2 sacks and 7 tackles, MacRedd had 1 sack and 9 tackles, and McPhillips had 2int, one returned for a TD, and 6 tackles to lead the defensive effort.

Next up we travel to Icatus. We know very little about the team except that they gave 9th ranked Equestrian states a scare losing by ony 4. With MacTruck has been cleared and did not have a concussion and we can't imagine Bruce having another poor performance like this one. Expect McKleigh to come home undefeated as we predict a 24-7 point victory.

Fire Ponies Continue Plunge into Mediocrity
By Downtrodden Crankyface

While I'd love to continue harping on the national hoofball team for their early Cup of Harmony exit, there is another tournament the we have entered that is now underway. I am - of course - referring to the World Bowl.

The last tournament saw all my predictions come true. I was sure that the Fire Ponies were overrated, and boy was I ever right. One would expect the third-ranked team in the world to contend for the championship, but nope! The Equestrian States fell apart horribly, barely sneaking out of the casaran stage into the group stage. Now, your usual optimistic fans all came up with lame excuses like "the team was pelted with random shit by hostile natives" or "the referees were all biased against us" or even "the hosts changed the rules with the sole intention of screwing us over".

Now, I'll admit the Sanctii and Republican swine hate us with a passion that's borderline obsessive, and their fans certainly are a tad bit over-zealous at times. But that doesn't mean the Fire Ponies' sucking was all the fault of the hosts! Yes, the new rules implemented by the host nations (which have since been discarded by the WBA Executive Council) didn't help the highly-defensive Equestrians' chances. Yes, there were more than the usual number of questionable calls. Yes, the local fans were more unruly than a crowd of drunken griffons. But one can only blame a lackluster effort from the Equestrian offense.

Anyways, we're not here to discuss the past; we're here to discuss the Fire Ponies' narrow 30-26 victory over unranked* minnows Icatus. Overall, the game reminded me a lot of how bad the Equestrian States performed last time. The running game only managed to get four touchdowns against a significantly inferior opponent, and Blackstone didn't even attempt a field goal! Sure the team was leading 30-0 at halftime and used backups for the final 30 minutes. But against some nobodies like Icatus? The Fire Ponies should have leveled them and held them scoreless! Instead, they go and give up some fluky 26 points and nearly blow the lead.

* - Technically, Icatus is somehow "ranked" 106th despite never participating in a World Bowl or Baptism of Iron before. I refuse to acknowledge these shitty rankings as legitimate.

Our incompetent stallions and mares will now return home to face another unranked team with no talent: Mentuken. For whatever reason, they seem to be under the impression that they have submitted a roster for the competition despite not having done so. Right now my guess is that this will turn into a repeat of the Gangnam Incident from several years ago, and Mentuken is a desolate wasteland inhabited by shadow beasts.

What Just Happened?
No, seriously. I can't remember anything.

By Jonathan Umadden

Strange things are happening in Menukten. I would like to report on them, but due to their very nature, I can't. The very first game of this new World Bowl is shrouded in mystery, as no one can recall what happened. One moment the team was getting ready to play and the fans (who had had mass troubles with Menukten customs, for some reasons, but it seems all they were stopped for was xenophobic paranoia) were eager to see some gridiron, and the next there was a blowout score on the board and the refs were calling the game. The team was bewildered, as they hadn't even taken the field yet, and the opponent team hadn't even shown up on the field. The fans were calling for a "rematch," so that they might salvage something from all the money put into game and plane tickets, but the officials on staff that day refused, so the 49-19 score is what's being recorded in the rankings, which we certainly can't complain about. It's a great start to the Bowl, and gives us a nice edge on Equestrian States, who only beat Icatus by 4. Our next match will be against HopNation, a newer nation that fell just short of escaping last Bowl's Casaran stage. It should be a relatively routine win for the Ironworkers, all the same.

World Bowl XXIII Coverage

A Successful Debut
Regulars get 30-19 road win versus the Tidal Wake

The Regulars pulled out a fairly easy win over a new team to give new head coach Baeryk Vaalburger a win in his first game as head coach. The Tidal Wake squad managed to put up a few scores, but they were insufficient to take the win while the Regulars' ground game proved dominant and the defense as clutch as ever.

Leif Erikson was called on to do very little, going 11/14 for 148 yards and a touchdown. The wide receivers did not end up doing much, with nine of the completed passes going to tight ends. Goedwyn Braanur snagged five catches for 74 yards and a touchdown, Garrett Kelley caught three more for 32 yards, and Junn Lindstrom caught one more pass for 12 yards. Hael Fokkenmaar was the only wide receiver to catch a pass, snagging two for 30 yards while Tidal Wake effectively shut down Izaak Rolle.

The Regulars instead mostly leaned on the running game, with the three-headed backfield monster combining for 201 yards on 43 rushes. Daanyl Wyndhorst rushed 15 times for 76 yards and a touchdown, the score coming on a 29-yard touchdown run in the early fourth quarter to help put the game away. Graagur Baaltrsunn rushed 20 times for 100 yards and another touchdown, which came off a 3-yard dive in the first quarter. Finally, Ole Nurdsunn added 8 rushes for 25 yards and a touchdown that came off a 2-yard dive in the third quarter.

The defense was its usual clutch self. Although it allowed the Tidal Wake to move the ball a fair amount (about 231 yards) and kick four 50+ yard field goals, with the only touchdown coming off a long kickoff return. Danley Vicious and Honorius Waalturs combined for six sacks, and the defense as a whole had two more. What was especially notable, though, was Vicious' sack for a safety that effectively put the game out of reach for Tidal Wake, as the Regulars got the ball back after the two minute warning to run out the clock. The Regulars were also able to kill a few drives via two interceptions (by Belle Marquette in the third quarter and Erik Dahlhorst in the first) and a fumble (forced by Henrik Baaldr and recovered by Waldr Baersvylk).

Scoring Summary:

There were just over 6 minutes to go in the 4th quarter and the Fair Republic had a 17 to 10 lead over the Free Republics. Drasko Pecar stepped onto the field, needing to score a touchdown to tie the game at 17 and guarantee at least a shot at overtime for the Republican National Team. After a disappointing performance at World Bowl XXII, with the home advantage, the Republicans were not considered favorites, by any means, in this edition of the World Bowl. They weren't even expected to advance out of the group stage, especially in a group that also contained Osarius and Cassadaigua, with just 2 playoff spots up for grabs.

Pecar came out in his team's base Pistol formation. The Pistol is a formation that is somewhere in-between the traditional under-center formation and the shotgun. The base version of the Pistol uses a single back, with 3 wideouts and a tight end. The Republican offense uses the Pistol almost exclusively, as it provides them with a very effective running game and the ability to run a spread-based passing attack. Pecar took the field at his own 36 and started the drive with a screen to Jonas Rasmussen. Rasmussen caught the screen several yards behind the line of scrimmage, but managed to gain 8 yards on the play. After bringing in Meier Pongor, Pecar handed the ball off to the 255-pounder. Pongor was met at the line of scrimmage by Henry Jones, a Toucan linebacker, but he managed to force his way past the linebacker and gain 3 yards to pick up a first down.

Pecar called a designed quarterback run on the next play and managed to pick up 9 yards before sliding down. The remainder of this drive consisted of more of the same. Logan Allen's team was content to pick their opponents apart on the ground and they were finally successful. They simply hadn't had much success throwing the ball on this day. Pecar had 3 interceptions and his completion percentage was in the 40s. However, they had worn down the Toucan defense and used that to their advantage. Finally, Meier Pongor rumbled into the end zone from a yard out and brought Jaromir Zuyev out for the game-tying extra point. With just a minute and a half to go, Zuyev kicked the extra point.

Han Van Harn came in for the next kickoff and kicked it straight through the uprights for a touchback. Now, the Toucans had the ball. Buck Williams attempted to execute a 2-minute drill, but he would be sacked on a third and 1 near midfield. This forced a punt, with just 22 seconds remaining on the clock. Rick Blane's punt was returned by Connor Stewart. Stewart made the first man miss and stayed within the lanes his blockers created for him. Soon, he was in the clear. When Connor Stewart is in the clear, there is nobody that can catch him and nobody was able to catch him. Zuyev kicked the PAT and the Free Republics led 24 to 17 with 8 seconds remaining on the clock. This time, Devin Jones had a returnable kickoff and he chose to return it. He brought it out to the 33 yard line, leaving 3 seconds for his team to work with. Buck Williams dropped back and threw up a desperation pass, but Omri Knibbe intercepted it near the end zone and went down, ending the game and sealing the win for the Free Republics. With a win in their World Bowl opener, Logan Allen's team would now set out to Hutt River to face a newcomer to this edition of the World Bowl, looking for a second consecutive victory.

Speaking Out (A)

If there was ever a time to be silent. It was then. There was no reason for him to speak, for him to talk, for him to say anything. Oh sure, his life would get better after the incident. He'd go on to compete at Valor Coast University, he'd go on to compete in the VFL for the Boreal Bombers, he'd be rich, he'd be famous, and he'd be able to compete in World Bowl XXIII.

But even still, that incident would never leave him. He'd always think back to that moment in time, to that event. And of course, who could blame him. Who could blame him for holding onto an event that would lead to a slippery slope of events that costed so many people their lives and almost costed him his own?

Murder.

How could he forget something that he saw with his own eyes. Something so gory, something so life altering. The event would leave him a shell of his former self. He would be emotionally closed off from the rest of the world, and many would try to pry their way into his life.

How could he forget the threats he received? From the cops and from his neighborhood. Speak up or not, he was screwed. But one would ruin him more than the other. Do the right thing, or do the smart thing? Either way, the event would eat at him for the rest of his life. There was no way that his mind would be at ease either way.

He'd either kill himself on the inside over the fact that he didn't speak up, or get killed by others for speaking up. There was no resolution.

But he made the choice to speak up. And that was exponentially worse. In Equinox Heights, you don't speak up.

Murders go unsolved.

Families do not get a resolution.

Life goes on.

People move on.

But he just couldn't leave well enough alone. He had to be a witness.

Gregoryisgodistan 26, San Jose Guayabal 9

Gregoryisgodistan Crushes SJG (Not literally, unfortunately)

Despite the enemy crusher's vows to crush the entire San Jose Guayabal team to death, none of the Guayabalese players were killed or even injured today. However, the Grid Slaves still won and won easily. The defensive line battered Luis Jiménez all day, sacking him 8 times in total. The Guayabalese offensive line just could not contain the rush of the enemy crushers. Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino led the way with four sacks, including one in the end zone for a safety.

Meanwhile, the fantastic Grid Slaves defense forced six fumbles, recovering five. Four of the fumbles were forced by the enemy crushers. Additionally, Defected New York Jet Darrelle Revis had a pick six in the second quarter. The other touchdowns were scored on defense as well, with Defected Chicago Bear Brian Urlacher recovering a fumble at the SJG 3 yard line and running it in after Enemy Crusher Jorgen von Streudel stripped the ball from Fernando Nonasa. The final touchdown came with the score 19-9 and 2:06 to go. SJG had just taken possession of the ball at their own 11 after a Gregoryisgodistan punt. They had managed to keep it a two possession game in spite of only managing 91 yards of offense. However, Jimmenez droped back to pass on first down and was walloped by Enemy Crusher Carl Paladino, jarring the ball loose. The ball remained on the turf after several Guayabal players tried and failed to pick it up and run with it, finally rolling into the end zone where Enemy Crusher Jurgen von Streudel fell on it for the touchdown, essentially ending any chance the visitors had to win.

After the game, Enemy Crusher Jurgen von Streudel was ecstatic about beating the archrivals, saying "I would have loved a chance to crush our opponents, but unfortunately we did not get a chance. The game was so close and we did not want to get penalized. But when we go to San Jose Guayabal, we will be sure to crush a bunch of their fans, especially if they start chanting forbidden words. That should be fun. I look forward to traveling to that wicked heathen neighbor of ours and crushing all those heathens who chant forbidden words. It's a shame that none of them traveled here. I would have loved to crush them. That would have been fun. Death to San Jose Guayabal!"

It remains to be seen just how many Guayabalese fans, players, and/or coaches will be crushed during the return leg next week. However, the enemy crushers have promised a lot of deaths, and all of Gregoryisgodistan is counting on them to deliver. The Grid Slaves are now 2-0. They will look to keep winning tomorrow in Nassau-Hessen. The enemy crushers have promised a long string of crushings during that game as well, allegedly at revenge against Nassau-Hessen for being too stupid to post a roster. It remains to be seen if this threat will be delivered on.

Surprising win against Estope propels Anditia into first in Group E
Hannah D’Aub - ESTOPE

In what can be considered an unexpected win, the Anditon Wolves were able to muster a strong attack in their 36-10 defeat of the Estope National Football Team. The Royal and Crimson were upbeat following their first game win against Quackmybush and it showed.

“I really think that we caught Estope off guard.” Offensive Coordinator Narti D’Ovo said nonchalantly during the post-game press conference. “We were able to use the momentum we built coming off of the first game and translate it into a few quick scores. From there, it was just cruise control for [QB Josh] Borst and the Rhino [RB Liam Uberrara]."

Anditia was able to start the game off on the right foot forcing an early turnover by Estope WR Luke Portee on what should have been an easy completion. LB Demarcus Heslin was able to get a good jump on the route run by the young slot-reciever forcing Portee to focus on the impending collision rather than holding onto the ball. His jarring hit arrived right as Portee put his hands on the ball, forcing it high into the air. Keeping his wits about him, Heslin contorted his body in circus like fashion to catch the fumble of an interception (henceforth referred to as fumbleception). Even though Heslin was unable to return the fumbleception much more than a yard, the play had been completed and the turnover made giving the ball to the Wolves on the 27 yard line. This set up a simple ground and pound for the Rhino to score the first TD of the game (a 7 yd run up the middle by Uberrara). Following a 52 yard drive and failed field goal attempt (47 yards wide left), the Wolves had the ball again stringing together a 12 play, 63 yard drive that lasted 7 minutes and resulted in another Uberrara touchdown (2 yards). To complete the first half, Estope was able to put together a decent drive that resulted in a 37 yard field goal by Kicker Travis Buchholz.

Return specialist Keenan Paull nearly broke free for another half opening touchdown return, but was stifled at the last moment as he was caught from behind at the Anditon 45 yard line by Estope special teamer, backup TE Jessie Lupien. With excellent field position, the Wolves were able to use the arm of Josh Borst to fabricate another drive, capped off by a Play-action score of 12 yards on the catch of TE Kalil Oberite. Following a quick 3 and out by the anemic Estope offense, Anditia drove down the field again to score yet another touchdown (8 yard catch by RB Liam Uberrara) On the ensuing kickoff, Estope was able to match Paul’s return, nearly returning for a touchdown themselves keeping were it not for the heroic efforts of Kickoff specialist/Punter Carlton Monroig. This set up Estope with a short field, perfect for the style of play that Offensive Coordinator Jack Croom is used to seeing when the Estope defense is playing its best. Noll Walen was able to connect with WR Adam Godfrey for a 21 yard strike up the sideline as Godfrey blazed past a seemingly confused CB Kurt Austin. Following the extra point, Anditia led 28-10 with 1:03 remaining in the 3rd Quarter.

The opening of the fourth quarter saw two missed field-goal attempts: one by Travis Buchholz (38 yards wide left) and one by Wolves kicker Alfonso Melgar (46 yards - short). Following the kick by Melgar, he seemed to wince in pain as he planted his support leg - x-rays are forthcoming, but he was able to walk off of the field. With 8:33 remaining in the game, it was just a matter of maintaining the lead for Anditia as Coach Nestor Gregori put in backups. Despite the use of the backups, Anditia was able to score a final touchdown in an impressive display of strength by RB Marcus St. Onges, who broke three tackles to free himself on a 21 yard steamroll into the end zone. Due to Melgar’s apparent injury, Anditia opted for the 2-point conversion and succeeded on a pass from QB Timmy Halib to backup TE Antonio Morel.

“I was pleased with our boys. They played well.” the stoic head coach Nestor Gregori commented. “We get a home match against Macquarrie which should be interesting… and thats where our focus is right now”

Team | Q1 | Q2 | Q3 | Q4 | F
Estope | 0 | 3 | 7 | 0 | 10
Anditia | 14 | 0 | 14 | 8 | 36

Q2: None
Q3: TD Oberite from Borst 12 yds

Word of the Matchday: Efficient
by Meghan Comrie, Beat Writer, Concord Heights Times

After all of the pomp and circumstance to pump ourselves up for the upcoming International Basketball Championships was complete, the Fillies took to the field against a nation we have never heard of before: Hamamatsu. It’s not a nation that I can recall learning about in school, and it doesn’t come from one of the more well known sporting regions, so I have to admit that I had to some research about the country, beforehand. Come to find out, I didn’t have to feel guilty about not knowing anything about it, and chances are the nation won’t even exist in a couple weeks. It exists in some region referencing kings and emperors, and not one that is known for sports. This will make our eventual trip there pretty interesting, especially considering the nation may be even closer to completely vanishing off the face of the earth. Local citizens must be very concerned and should be making contingency plans, should this happen.

Getting back to those pre-game festivities, they were pretty exciting. As a former cheerleader in high school and throughout college at the University of Concord Heights, I watched the current squads with a lot of interest, at the cheer competition that took place. All of our basketball players were there, and they had a chance to mingle with the football team a little bit. Other then charity events, sponsor appearance, or end of year sports award programs, the opportunity to see the likes of Jessica Minor and Brittany Baynes together is pretty rare. The fans enjoyed it, and had the opportunity to get autographs from many of their heroes. The football team did forego their morning practice in favor of the event, but I do know that (coach) Kaitlyn Rinaldi held an extended evening session to make up for it. Football players still got their workouts and videotape sessions in during the early portions of the day. I had a chance to interview Jessica Minor about the event, and she told me, “This is why I love Cassadaigua. The amount of nations out there that can play so many sports at the highest level is very small. How can you not feel proud to wear this jersey, and play in front of these fans?” Jessica began, “And let’s not forget our hockey and baseball players, they too were pretty awesome. And even the soccer team qualified for the World Cup showing they didn’t need the automatic bid.”

After all the fun stuff, it came time to play the game, and the Fillies were victorious over Hamamatsu by the score of 21-6. There will be some that look at that score and wonder, why didn’t they win 63-3, and begin to think that Cassadaigua had a bad game. Truth is, it was a very efficient game. There were no big plays, and the Dagans did have to punt a few times, but they were always in control of this game. The defense completely dominated their opponent, who began to realize soon enough that should not attempt to throw on the Fillies secondary. Offensively, Minor led the team on three touchdown drives, one each in the first three quarters, with the each drive taking an average of 7:53 off the clock. Officially, the scoring plays read two touchdown passes, one from Minor to Tiffany Gordon for 11 yards, and the other from Minor to Stephanie Regan for 6 yards. Stacie Meehan also punched one in on the ground for 2 yards to complete the other drive. The visitors converted two field goals, coming in the second and fourth quarters, from 33 and 39 yards out. In the end, the result is a win, which is more then Saintland had over Macquarrie tonight.

Team Meeting

Postby The Fair Republic » Tue Apr 29, 2014 4:08 pm

Buck Williams storms into the Toucan's locker room after the 28-17 loss to Osarius. Losing to the 13th ranked team in the world wasn't a big deal but this was the second straight game were the Toucans blew a lead in the 4th quarter. Blowing a 17-14 lead was understandable and Osarius wore us down the old coach thought, but the Free Republic?!! Ranked 20 spots below us!! We should have won that game were were up 17-7 and then we blew it!! As the players marched in they saw the the old coach was pissed. They saw the 10 gallon water cooler spilling on the floor and stared in silence.

"SIT" Natters barked and the players listened.

"Now I don't know what the hell is wrong with you guys but snap out of it! 2 games we blew a 4th quarter lead and we should have won that Free Republic game! You guys played like **** no that's an insult to **** your the **** that **** ****s! You think that if we can't even win that game we can compete with Cassadaigua? You will be lucky to be in it after the first quarter! I expect, no I demand that we finish of the first half 2-3. We will lose vs Cassadaigua and I accept that but we have 2 games that we will win or don't be surprised if I start flying people in from home to take your job! Get some rest and practice is in an hour."

Game Preview- The Fair Republic (26) vs Hamamatsu (106)

Not much is known about the Hamamatsuians. No roster, no coach, team name. The Toucans should win this game in convincing fashion and give Buck Williams and the offense a chance to get back on track and the defense to shake off a sub par start to get the first win for the Toucans.

Statistics:
Points Per Game: The Fair Republic 17, Hamamatsu 11.5
Points Allowed Per Game: The Fair Republic 26, Hamamatsu 31

Prediction: 24-6 The Fair Republic
3rd Place-RUWC 23

“I knew it! I damn knew it! YEAH!”

The entire staff of the Zenic national gridiron team was hooting and hollering in the office they had made in a spare room in New Maiz Field. Obviously, being such a niche sport until just recently and the national team having been rushed into creation for the World Bowl, there was no building built specifically for them. So they had to find whichever EPL club owner would be kind enough to lend them their stadium for a bit. You think they could have played in a stadium made for gridiron football; however the only stadiums were collegiate and did not seem feasible. Julia Paterson, thankfully, had some space available in New Maiz Field and was willing to deal with the minor costs of repairing the field after each game. Honestly, if Zenic ever won a championship, the gridiron team would most likely erect a statue in honor of her help during this crucial beginning period.

Returning to the source of the celebration, you’d have to travel all the way to Unolia. There, a tough and competitive match took place, which was in Zenic’s favor as they loved to play that style. Surprisingly, Zenic struck first with a 27 yard run from RB Pherigo for the only score in the first quarter for both sides to put his team up 7-0. In the second quarter, it was a battle of kickers: De LA Fontaine scored a 44 yard FG which the Unolia kicker matched on the very next drive. In response, on the last drive of the first half, De La Fontaine put through the uprights a 38 yarder to make the game 13-3 in favor of Zenic at the half.

During the third quarter, Unolia seemed to turn the game around, scoring a passing TD followed by a rushing TD to bring the score of the game to 17-13 in favor of the highest ranked team in the group. The rest of the third quarter and most of the fourth was just hard-hitting gridiron football with both sides barely getting a first down or two before eventually having to punt the ball away. The Zenic national team was in dire straits at that point and seemed like they would lose their second straight game when suddenly, QB Barrett magically caught fire. With 4:57 left in the 4th. Barrett went 7-9 as he led the team on an 81-yard drive which ended at the 2:01 mark with a touchdown pass to TE McKinney to put the underdog Zenic up 20-17. The Unolian fans were not having it and started to boo, hoping it would make the Unolian side play harder and win the game in the last seconds: and they almost did.

The Unolian team managed to put together an impressive drive using both the running and passing game plus their time-outs to get all the way to Zenic’s 11 yard line with 33 seconds to spare. The Unolian QB threw the ball towards the back of the endzone hoping to win the game as soon as possible. Zenic SS Fulton Ruan was having none of it: he stepped in front of the pass and intercepted it, effectively ending the game and giving Zenic their first win ever.

Now the team had to start preparing for their game at Ati Kaluraya. A win there could possibly propel Zenic into second place with even a slighter chance at first place.

But they would need to play just as hard and just as spirited versus Ati Kaluraya as they were against Unolia if they wanted another win.

Breaking News: Geese Eyes Shock!

-Barry Bohr

So apparently, Canadian Geese have real eyes inside of those black patches! It's true--those are not real geese eyes! I mean, seriously, the eyes are actually inside of the black patches! It's crazy! So I went out and interviewed people about this. Some replied, others emailed me in. Here are some of these.

"Uh...yeah, Geese have eyes." -Megan P
"Are you stupid? I realized that back in '97!" -Perry J
"I noticed geese eyes before they were cool." -Greg M
"I think you're right. Geese do have eyes!" -Charlie π

Once I realized almost everything had eyes, I decided to inform the blind fish of Kentucky's caves that they were the minority. They then alerted me of a ton of worms...without eyes! How cool is that!

"Why am I even reading your blog?" -Jerry M
"Wow, lol fail" -Reagan Q
"Uh, some worms do have eyes." -Nick J
"OH MY GOD THE FISH BURNT DOWN MY HOUSE BECAUSE THEY'RE BLIND AND THEY THOUGHT IT WAS YOURS I HATE YOU I HAET YOU ALL" -Harry H

Uncharted Waters
With the VFL in lockout mode for the first time in 20 years, Vettrera will not be able to send an all-star squad to compete in World Bowl XXIII. Naturally, PUSH and the VSA decided to send the next best thing: The team from Valor Coast University and season 9 of the NSCF (at which Vettrera was a semifinalist). Please note that even graduates will be able to compete, even those that were drafted, because your contract is not active until you literally step on the field for the first time for a game. This puts Vettrera in a very precarious situation. A: This means that Valor Coast University may not return to the NSCF (which is also on a delayed schedule this year), and B: This means Vettrera may or may not be successful this edition, which is unfortunate considering that PUSH funding was just now fully restored. This lack of funding was cited as the main reason that Vettrera failed to perform well in the last edition.

Standard Uniform

Note: Other uniforms are simply a different color variation on this one

Stadium
Vettrera's home games are to be played in the Valor Coast University stadium due to the lockout.
Image
Capacity= 60,275 maximum. 40,000 standard seating

Note: The grass will be the standard green turf for the games. The blue is simply there as Valor Coast University uses that as their main color, and still hold the traditional Orange, White, & Blue color scheme. Those familiar with Valor Coast University from competing with the NSCF understand this, and also understand that competing here is generally disorienting when the field is blue and when VCU plays in blue. For that purpose, the colors will be changed

ANOTHER WIN FOR ESTENIAN NATIONAL GRIDIRON TEAM

Estenian players win two games in a row. The victim this time was Jeckland who lost with the score of 37-23. The man of the match from the Estenian side was Evgeny Istomin who defended better han anyone. He saved the team from 2 touchdowns and helped a lot to the defence in the center. The coach said that he was happy and his boys will never let him down even if the team will lose. Evgeny said that he was happy too but the last few months he had a lot of injuries and he barely got it into the national team. Another thing that makes Evgeny happy is that the first Estenian games ended with success and not failure. Here's the interview of Evgeny

Evgeny's interview-22:34 Murin Standard Time

Interviewer Ekaterina Aleyeva: Hello Estenian People, I'm Ekaterina Alyeva from the Sports News Channel, live from Murin,Capital Administrative Region. I'm here to interview Evgeny Istomin, the man of the match from the Estenian side. How do you feel Evgeny?
Evgeny: I'm really happy that we won today, we all tried and we did our best.
Interviewer EA: Do you believe that you should try more?
Evgeny: Yes, we must be in form and ready for everything, even if we won 2 times in a row.
Interviewer EA: Do you believe that Estenia will be in the top 3 teams of the group?
Evgeny: I think we should try first, let's see how the game against Kykid will go and then I will give you a bit better information.
Interviewer EA: I see that your unsure like your teammates.
Evgeny: To be sure, I have to play and then give answers.
Interviewer EA: I see we don't have much time here. Goodbye

Legend of The Great Battle Axe
Part 1: The Beginning

Year 40 TBM:With Misfortune comes Great Strength
Another 15 years has past and the village in the north has seen tremendous growth. The village now consists of many new buildings; homes, meeting places, storage buildings, and cooking rooms. The grove now reaches all areas of what is becoming Timbermunich. The outskirts still see the lower fern trees but the heart of TimberOaks now encompasses the entire northern village. There is a tier of trees beyond the TimberOaks which comprise of a few more species of tree, including species of the Pinales order and the Fagales order. The TimberOaks themselves now stand at an impressive 70 meters and dwarf all nearby species. The grove controllers have been working hard behind the leadership of Willy and the village elder Battle. They have not encroached on the heart of the grove as each time they attempt to remove a tree in the direction of the heart the axe being used is shattered when it hits the trunk of the TimberOak, so the grove controllers have left this area and allow it to grow freely. They have been clearing to the south and to the east in order to keep a clear path to water. The village has also sent grove teachers to the south in hopes to locate and inform the southern villages of how to keep the trees at bay and sustain life under the canopy.

Battle has continued to teach his prized pupil Willy in the ways of felling, although at this point Willy seems to have passed Battle in his felling ability. Nonetheless Willy takes Battles advice and continues to improve on his already impressive ability. One day while the two were working on the grove to the east near a small lake (later named Logger Lake) they decided to rest and talk a bit. Willy intently listened as Battle told him the story of the very first tree he felled, a story Willy has heard 1000 times by now but he still listens intently. Once finished, Battle asks Willy if he has any great memories of a tough tree or group of trees that he had trouble with. Willy tells Battle of a small grouping of Pinales, Pine Genus, that gave him a lot of trouble. He broke three axes on that grouping, was almost crushed by one of the falling trees a fellow grove controller had cut, and received a large amount of small scraps and cuts as the group cleared the undergrowth away. Willy thought that the trouble came mostly from this undergrowth as it made the ground extremely hard to maneuver around and was the main reason he was almost crushed. The two rested a bit longer and then moved to the eastern shore of the lake and began working again. Though Battle had long been done with his days of grove control he enjoyed the time with Willy and still loved to fell a few trees now and again. As the two worked they were unaware of a large storm that was approaching. The other villagers were warned by the swaying of the TimberOaks and were able to take refuge within their shelters and the protection of the TimberOaks. However Battle and Willy were a good distance from the grove heart and had no early warning of the impending storm. Battle was felling a particularly large Pine as Willy cleared the landing area, something they commonly did to help save the wood for later use and keep it in tact as hitting other trees on the way down commonly broke the main trunk. As the wind picked up Battle was nearly through the trunk and noticed the tree twist under the strain of wind and chopping action. The tree twisted again in the other direction and snapped knocking Battle to the ground rendering him unconscious. Willy, who was still clearing a small undergrowth, didn’t see or know his teacher had been injured by the very tree that was now falling towards him. Willy looked up as he heard the grown of the tree and had no time to react as the tree came crashing down on him.

Battle woke after the rain had started a good thirty minutes after he had been knocked out, and called for Willy. He received no response and managed to get up on his own to go in search for his pupil. As Battle moved down the trunk of the pine he kept calling for Willy but still heard nothing in return. He soon saw Willies legs and ran over to see if he could help. He quickly removed the branches from around Willy’s body and found a large wound gushing blood from Willy’s head, as battle attended to Willy’s head he noticed something else was wrong, the tree was laying on the young mans arm. Battle stayed with Willy; he got the bleeding to stop and cleared away more of the branches from around Willy in hopes of finding a way to get his arm out from under the tree. As Willy came to he saw Battle make his first swing at the trunk just below where his arm lay crushed under the log. Willy yelled as the axe cut into the bark and Battle let go of the handle. As the axe stuck in the log Battle went to Willy to see if he could help more. Willy yelled again as Battle came closer saying that he should not cut the main beam it is to important. Battle pleaded with his pupil that they needed to get his arm out from under the trunk and get him back to the village, but Willy would have nothing of it. He told Battle that his arm is not as important as the wood we can get from this tree; this tree is a great pine and is a great length, one that they needed to start construction on their new hanging huts. Willy told Battle that they needed to find a way to lift the trunk just enough to get him free, but what could they do as only the two of them were here and the trunk was enormous. The rain continued to poor down on them and now lightening started to fill the sky as it grew darker and darker. The two started to dig as the rain softened the soil, but it was still to hard to dig by hand, they needed to use the second bit of Willy’s double-bit felling axe but at the risk of hitting Willy’s arm they decided to not use it and waited to see if the soil would become looser. Battle went to pull his axe from the trunk, as it was still stuck in the spot on the trunk he hit when Willy first yelled at him. As Battle grabbed the handle to remove it he felt something, something he had never felt before, and as he grabbed the handle with his other hand a great bolt of lightening struck. The lightening hit the head of Battles axe and traveled down along the trunk to Willy’s arm, as it hit his arm he let out a tremendous scream and rolled away from the trunk. Willy did not stop rolling as one might think due to his arm being trapped by the trunk of the tree; no he rolled right way from the trunk but his arm did not come with his body, his arm stayed under the trunk. Battle ran to him and helped him up and inspected his arm, there was no injury, no blood, and only smooth skin rounded off where his Humerus should meet the Scapula. It was gone his arm was gone and cleanly gone at that. The two went back to the trunk could not find any part of the severed portion sticking out from under the trunk. Battle went back to grab his axe again and lightening struck the head again this time splitting the trunk clean through where the axe head was stuck and Battle fell backwards to the ground. Willy helped Battle up and they went to inspect where the lightening hit to find that the trunk was now missing where it lay on Willy’s arm but they saw something in the dirt where the log and arm had been. It was Willy’s second axe, another double-bit felling axe, and the head was glowing hot while the handle was now a bunt black color. Willy picked up the axe and inspected the haft, nothing was wrong with it other than the color had changed there were no flaws, no cracks, and no scratches none of the wear was left on the axe that had been there before. He looked at the head and it was now cooling and now had a gleam to it, a silver gleam that stayed very bright even as it cooled and was now able to be touched. The head was smooth to the touch, razor sharp, and also showed no sign of prior use. Willy handed the axe to Battle to take a look at and Battle too saw nothing wrong with the axe, nothing at all, he twirled the haft in his hand and swung it around. The axe was perfect, perfect in color and shine, perfect in weight and balance, this axe was nothing like the ones they or the other villagers had made in the past. The two could not believe what had happened and took a few more moments to collect their other items and head back to the village, by this time the rain had stopped and the sun was shining down on them where the once mighty pine stood. The two shook hands and headed back home and both agreed to come back in hopes of finishing what they had started here by the lake.

As the two neared the village Battles axe now started to glow. In astonishment he dropped the axe and the two watched as the axe took on the same coloring as Willy’s double-bit felling axe did. Battle picked it back up and it was, just like Willy’s, perfect in every way. They once again collected them selves and walked into the village square. The rest of the villagers came out to greet them and ask how they fared during the storm. Seeing Willy’s arm many of the villagers stopped in their tracks while other started to ask what happened. The two men told their misfortune story and then showed their two axes. Willy set his and Battles axe on the meeting stump, which was in the center of the village, and continued to talk with other villagers about their ordeal. Battle noticed that one of the grove controllers, who were roughly the same age as Willy, tried to lift Willy’s axe and could not. This was very strange to Battle as Willy’s axe was no heavier than the other grove controller’s axes, so Battle went over and picked up the axe. The grove controller looked at Battle and backed up a bit in amazement, knowing that he could not lift the axe but Battle had no trouble in lifting it. Battle set the axe back down and turned away again, but the grove controller gathered two other grove controllers and the three of them attempted to pick up Battles axe this time, it did not budge. The three grove controllers asked that Battle and Willy pick up their axes again and hand them to a different grove controller who was standing near them. Willy happily went over and plucked his axe up with ease, flipped it around with his one arm and held it by the head, sticking the handle near the fourth grove controller. The grove controller took the handle and Willy let go of the head. The axe thumped to the ground with a loud thud and pulled the grove controller forward. Willy was amazed and asked if the man was okay then picked up the axe again with no trouble. Battle and Willy then moved to the edge of the village with everyone following them. They found one of the TimberOaks on the very edge of the heart of the grove. Willy walked up and placed his hand on the trunk, closed his eyes, and leaned his head near the tree. He then picked his head up and looked at Battle, Battle nodded and said yes this is the tree I felt it too. Willy stepped back flipped his axe up and grabbed the haft near the end, swung it back over his head and with a fluid downswing struck the tree. The axe dug deep into the flesh of the mighty TimberOak, a tree no normal axe could have penetrated, the villagers cheered in excitement and Willy pulled the head from the tree and swung again. This time lower than before and a large chunk came flying out, with one more mighty swing the tree was sent tumbling down. Battle looked over the villagers, lifted his axe, and told them this would be the only TimberOak to be felled but that this is a sign of things to come.

The Group
Two games down for the group and the top seeds are showing us why they are the top seeds. Karditan despite being a defensive heavy team have put up some good numbers so far, perhaps it’s the defensive unit for the Ironworkers that are putting up the points. Then we have the Fire Ponies and although they don’t have as impressive numbers as Karditan, Equestrian States has earned back to back wins. Icatus, the still unknown team in Group H managed to find a way past McKleigh by putting up 33 points, 3 more than they allowed in the first game in which they were kicked by the ponies. With that nice win over McKleigh it puts them in third for the group and leaves McKleigh just behind them in fourth. Then we find our very own Malts in the fifth position after a grulling battle with Karditan and a tight loss to McKleigh leaves us with a goose egg in the win column. Luckily we have scored some points and for the most part held our opponents to a reasonable amount as well and puts Menukten the other double loss team behind us on +/-.

We’ll have to wait until Matchday 5 before we see the group titans face off and until then I don’t see either one of them losing a single game. So, we’ll hold off on predictions for the group until then.

The Game
Malt’s Schedule | Result | Malts’ Record

Malts are home/away
Malts score listed first in all games
Malts record is post that game

The Malts looked to return to winning form as they have been on a skid since the casaran playoff game loss last World Bowl. This wasn’t exactly the game to turn things around but they needed to think they could win nonetheless. The Malts traveled to Karditan, a team we played in the second round of the Casaran during World Bowl XXII. We didn’t even score a single point in that game as they blanked us 20-0. Could we better that result, come away with a win even? No, althought it was much closer this time around. The first half of this game was rather dull, little to no points being put on the board as the teams went three and out after three and out, both defensive units seemed equal to the opposition’s offensive efforts. But just before the half time horn the Ironworkers managed to intercept one of Fran Bradannings passes as the Malts finaly got a first down on the prior play. It was Fly Swatter that nabbed the ball as it looked to be an easy catch for Cinco Uno Megatron, but at the last second Fly Swatter stepped/jumped in front of him and ran the ball 45 yards for the score. It still looked like Fly Swatter used his wings despite claims that the Pegasus had his wings tied down, it is was it is and no flag was thrown putting the Ironworkers up 7-0 before the break. On the opening kick-off of the second half Light Step, an earth pony, received the ball deep in the end zone and the Malts seemed to think the ball would be downed as they meandered down the field, but no Light Step took off galloping as fast as possible and made the Malts special teams look like a joke with a 108 yard return. Karditan now up 14-0 the Malts supporters were hoping that the game would not end like the last meeting between the two teams and the home side would score no points. But on the ensuing kick-off Deck Weswes returned the ball to the Ironworkers 30 yard line. The Malts would not move the ball another inch, but Anderson Gouldie would put the ball through the uprights and we had points on both sides of the score board, 14-3. The teams would go back to their first half defensive battle as again it was three and out after three and out. Early in the fourth quarter Ap Goreyou broke a run to the outside and entered into Ironworkers territory and as he cut back to the inside around Sven Losrov, Quinn Davis came around the corner and laid Goreyou out. The ball came free and went right into the hands of Losrov who quickly scampered down field and into the end zone for another defensive touchdown putting the Ironworkers up 21-3. On the kick-off Ricky Ricketts seemed to slip as his cleats (from the Hopview camera) seemed to be placed directly on a sprinkler head and the ball only went 15 yards before being picked up by Larry Sweetknee. Sweetknee managed to break a tackle or two and make it into Ironworker territory, but again the Malts offense sputtered and they had to settle for another Anderson Gouldie field goal, 21-6 in favor of Karditan. On Karditan’s next drive Garret Norris rolled to the right and looked like he was going to pitch the ball to Light Step but instead decided to whip the ball down field towards Sticky Hooves. In mid flight the ball was snagged by Atwaters Polamalalu who cut right in front of Sticky Hooves. Polamalalu ran the ball 63 yards for the score and we had ourselves a two score game at 21-13 still in favor of Karditan. The next drive by the Ironworkers went nowhere and the Malt Marauders forced a punt. The Malts offense moved the ball a bit and managed two first downs and again got within field goal range before being smothered by the Karditan defense. Anderson Gouldie hit his third field goal of the game and we were now within one touchdown of taking the lead with the score now at 21-16. However, there was little time left and the Ironworkers mounted some offense, finally getting their first first down, followed by two more, this put them in field goal range and the Malts were forced to use all of their timeouts to try and get the ball back as their Malt Marauders held. This time Ricky Ricketts was sure of his footing and knocked in a 38 yard field go to cement the win with only 20 seconds left. Ironworkers best the Malts again, this time with a much closer score of 24-16.

The Gauntlet
HopNation (Malts) vs Menukten (Silents) @ Fressen Hundefutter Stadion in Wortwort, Hefebayern
Next up for the Malts are the Silents of Menukten. There have been many reports that games against the Silents end with no knowledge of the actual game play, hopefully the Malts remember what they are doing and can come away with their first win this World Bowl. The Menukten side has allowed the most points out of all teams in Group H, but they have scored more than the Malts have. We’ll be looking for the Malt Marauders to hold strong and keep the Menukten to no points. The Malts offense will get its feet going again and actually score some points, aided by the defense again we see the HopNation side winning this meeting.

That does it for this edition, until next time Brew On, Brew Well Hoptonians!

They play very gritty way of playing, and would not afraid to get dirty, bloody or break bones and kill people. They hit hard and often the enemies' players with their free-wheeling defence. Cover and tackling are also encouraged.

Billy: Thank you person whose name I don't care to learn.

Random guy: Lets get a picture with some kids.

*Two kids come up next to Billy, guy with a camera comes to take picture.*

Kid 1: lol yolo swag 420 fgt derp herp lol

Billy: It's going to take more than that to get to me kid.

kid 2: Rams won, but only 3-0.

*Billy smacks the two kid's heads together screaming*

It's the Angry Billy Show!

Billy: Hey folks, Angry Billy here to talk about what made me happy, and what made me ANGRY about this week in sports. Today's topic is game two of World Bowl 23 between the Rams and some random nation no one has heard of. So let's get started.

Good:

* The Defense worked like magic, they held Wake's offense to under 200 yards and they never got close to the end zone.

* Charles did a decent job at Kick returning too, there was some questioning on how well he would do, but his last return for 60 yards is what helped position the Rams for a game winning field goal, which sadly leads us to...

ANGRY!:

* Wow, what a disappointing game overall for the offense. they could not get anything going, missed passes, bad runs, poor throws, the offense looked tired. And in my opinion, there's a good reason for it.

* Look, I'm not going to sugar coat it, I think that semi-final game against Cass affected the team more than they are willing to admit. They've had some bad games these last three years or so, but nothing compared to that game, with the exception perhaps of World Bowl 16, though at least then, the Rams had only begun to unlock their true talent. The last three bowls have seen the Rams form one of the most feared offenses, and Cass wrecked it in the second half, along with the Defense. Losing Altozar like that put too much stress on Shoemaker, and he is just not the Elite QB that the team needs him to be. And if he is, then he's running out of time to prove it.
