Vettrera Soars In Ultimate Cup 4

As of now, Vettrera now tops their group in Ultimate Cup 4 after their first game in a group that appears to be, on the whole, extremely competitive. Vettrera has been drawn with Gregoryisgodistan and the Avissan Union, as well as the slightly less competitive Otakuverse. Jalisa Opry, the head over PUSH "Test Sports" (anything without a "true following" or league in Vettrera: including things like lacrosse, cricket, ultimate, competitive bowling, golf, table tennis, and dodgeball), was extremely happy with the team's strong showing against Otakuverse, as they thrashed the team 17-5. This propelled Vettrera to the top of the group instantly. At this time, Jalisa Opry has her hands full as the Lacrosse team is also competing at this time, and have qualified for the Final 16 of the tournament, where they will take on Estope. Regardless, it is definitely good to see Vettrera succeed on the international field, regardless of how large the sports' following. As PUSH's focus begins to shift back to their major tournaments, the minor sports will attempt to showcase their skills while the spotlight is on them.

Cocoa Island, now Jeckish Chicken Connoisseurs stirs controversy by moving to a new region

A tense standoff was largely averted between Electrum and the Jeck Empire after sources close to the government stated that the Jeck Empire is willing to protect her new possession (Formerly Cocoa Island) under any circumstances -- that was until the Electrum government informed the Jeck Empire that Electrum in fact did not have an army, and had no desire to regain Cocoa Island.

It was the events that led up to the split which was of main concern to a far-right splinter group called the 'Electrum People for Keeping Our Country Whole' who want to keep Cocoa Island as the property of Electrum. The government has stated that they will not interfere with this groups operations as they don't want to get their hands dirty. What especially aggravated the group was the fact that they were worshipping a god called Margaret, and did so by sacrificing rubber chickens. The leader, Bud Austin, said that the island was not, "worshipping the one true god, God" and that the country should come back to Electrum so that they could be reconverted again. Sources close to the group claim that the militia is preparing for an invasion in the near future.

Common traditions in Jeckish Chicken Connoisseurs include the cooking of Jeckish Chicken (where the chicken is wrapped in bacon and baked, then fried into some traditional Jeckish green slime before serving), sacrifices of rubber chickens to Margaret, voodoo and spiritual possession and the warping of space-time.

The warping of space-time leads to the reaction from Menukten officials, who aside from the religious and military situations which have arisen have not been relevant in this conflict so far. They have warned the Jeckish Chicken Connoisseurs that time rips and connections with other space-time realities can lead to disasterous effects, including the time when an experiment "replaced the entire male population of Menukten with different Al Gores from alternative universes." We do not know who exactly is Al Gore, but we can only assume that he is an evil man. In a statement, Jim Snakeoil said that, "We promise to uphold the integrity of our universe... sometimes. We can't guarantee that something goes wrong, but as you saw with the earthquake, we also get things right."

Although they (the Menukten officials) have also expressed shock in the eating of chickens by the general populace, mayor Jim Snakeoil said that, "If they didn't want to be eaten, then they should have just evolved better! Or better yet, they should have just said so!"

What remains to be seen from all of these conflicts and diplomacy is will the Jeck Empire react to the right wing militia? Will Menukten's warnings hold true? Only time will tell what will happen next.

I write to you on matters of grave urgency, concerning the recent removal of Cocoa Island, now Jeckich Chicken Connoisseurs, from your space time to that of the Jeck Empire.

As our news media may have leaked, we are very concerned about the dangers of this removal, both for your people, the people of Jeckland, Yttribia and ours. Menuktenite monks recently conducted similar experiments and the results were disastrous. Our entire male population was changed into variations of a single individual. We were able to reverse the change, but only after a whole convent of nuns nobly sacrificed their lives to bring Menukten back to its original timeline.

The problem lies not in the warping of space-time itself, but in a host of inter-dimensional creatures called the Frabbage which such warping allows to be introduced into a normal space-time continuum. The Frabbage inhabit the bodies of living things and alter their host's timeline, feeding off the differential between what was and what is. In the process of harvesting alterchromatic energy from their hosts, they change small things in the hosts histories, then gradually advance to larger things until, with a great explosion that scatters their eggs to the four winds, they eliminate the hosts from time altogether, bursting their bellies in the orgy of feasting.

First small things will be different. You will never have met your friend for tea or a lacrosse game. You will have visited your parents during the holidays instead of staying home drinking bear. Then larger, life-altering things begin to be changed. You will have lived in a different city your entire life, you will have went to a different elementary and high school, one of your parents will have died when you were young, your you will be very good at math and horrible at writing.

By the end of the process you won't even recognize yourself. Your parents will have never met and you will have never been born. You will be someone completely different. And then, at the terminal stage, the parasite will erase you, or even the merest notion of you, from history altogether.

The danger of the Frabbage lies not only in the final, terminal explosion that can scatter their eggs across an entire continent. Frabbage also reproduce during the feeding stages of their lives and, as their eggs are able to be born upon the wind, this can create extremely high infections rates that can rapidly progress across living communities from the original point of infection which, in your case, would be the point of Frabbage entry into your space-time: Cocoa Island. If you don't want the entire population of Electrum annihilated from history, then I would suggest that you immediately quarantine the area around Cocoa Island. Additionally you should freeze all travel out of your country until you have assessed the extent of the danger and the parastical infection. I would ask that you not allow any of your sporting teams, including your international Ultimate team, to return to their home country until it is clear that the infection has been neutralized.

The best solution, of course, would be to infiltrate the Jeck Empire and return Cocoa Island to its original space time in your domestic waters. Doing so would create a temporal paradox, completely erasing the Frabbage from your space time. We have a temporal agency ready to help your own agents in this task if you so wish.

Please tell me what your intentions are. If you do not implement a quarantine and let your sports teams visit their home countries during their respective tournaments, then I am afraid Menukten will have to withdraw from said tournaments to limit infection rates and protect our own people.

Menukten players wary of Electrum, fear Frabbage Infection

The Mutterers revolted today and said that they would not play Electrum, for fear that the opposing players may be carrying Frabbage eggs due to recent events in their home countries.

Grandmaster Long Fire reassured the players that the Electrum lacrosse team could not be infected, as the events leading to the infestation of their lands by the Frabbage has happened only after the beginning of the Cup.

Team Captain Kwenakw ock Hachkihacanink was not convinced.

"I remember the AlGorecalypse, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna let the Electrumites infected me because of the irresponsibility of their co-nationalists."

Coach Hinutet was was frantic with distress when he learned of the ultimatum.

"They can't do this," he said, "they are under contract."

But the team remained resolves to forfeit the game with Electrum until Hinutet suggested that the Electrum players be tested for infection.

Coach Hinutet somehow wrangled a promise from Electrum captain Chantelle de Vries that the team would be tested. The results came back that same day, negative.

With the Electrumites apparently clean, the game is back on and Menukten is due to face its toughest challenger yet. Will the Mutterers be able to neutralize Electrum's strange leapfrog strategy?

To The Honorable Jim Brandis,

We must say that the level of urgency previously expressed about containing the Frabbage threat has increased five-fold. Jeckland president Jeck Hitchens has not accepted my recommendations of immediate quarantine. In fact, we believe, he might not have even received our communication. Though they are risking the annihilation of their entire population by welcoming the Jeckish Chicken Connoisseurs to their region, they remain adamant in their delusion that nothing is wrong.

This leaves the responsibility of preventing a universal pandemic and mass extinction in your hands, though we will help, of course. The Jeckish Chicken Connoisseurs must be brought back to Rushmore and the existence of the Frabbage negated in both Rushmore and the Jeck Empire's space-times. This incidenct is no longer a despute between your two nations. It has global, even universal consequences and the results of doing nothing may be the extinction of intelligent life throughout the entire multiverse.

We have fought the Frabbage before. We know what to do. I offer all the resources of my government to help avert this interuniversal disaster.

Mark Lewis - Good morning everybody. Welcome to you all to the first meeting of the new Island Council. The Constitution provides the Attorney General presides over the election of the Speaker and it also provides that the election of the Speaker is for the life of the Council. Does any Honourable Member wish to nominate any person to be Speaker of the Council?

Janet Legg - We would like to nominate Mr Kenneth Biles.

Mark Lewis - Is there anybody to second the motion?

Roger Johnson - I second the motion.

Mark Lewis - Are there any other further nominations for the role of Speaker?

No, no further nominations. In which case I accordingly declare that Mr Kenneth Biles is elected as Speaker of Island Council and I invite him to come forward to take the Oath of Allegiance and Due Execution of Office and then thereafter to

I fully support your own election Mr Speaker but I think when the Council is dissolved and meets again I think we should also look to advertising both the Speaker’s position and the Deputy Speaker as a routine so that we can find people in the community who may wish to be involved and have their names considered.

We now move to a statement by the Honourable Michael Winters.

Michael Winters - Mr Speaker and Honourable Members of the Council, I have called you together to voice my opposition to recent Yttribian political advances towards this Island.

The past few months have seen the rise of extreme politics in many of the countries of Esportiva, and Yttribia is no exception. The Corvax Party, likely funded by The Corvidae, much like The Florican is in the main archipelago, is favourite to win a multitude of seats on the Yttribian Federal Council.

For the Honourable Members who do not know about The Corvax Party, I will give a brief description. If you want to research more, the National Library on Isle Saria is always a good resource. The Corvax Party are fascists, Mr. Speaker. There is no other way to put it. I won't go into all their policies, but you can imagine what is on there. That, however, is no concern to the Honourable Members of this council.

What is a concern to this Council is however the parties policy on this Island. Mr. Speaker, the party believes that this Island, and her people, should be Yttribian. This is a basis based on mere geography. Now Mr. Speaker, I am no fool, I know you can see the Yttribian capital from these shores, but international law has never favoured geography.

I don't want to bore my honourable friends with the details of our Islands history, something they know only too well, so they will know that the only time that this Island has been anything close to Yttribian was when it was part of the Fontvieille City-State. They will also know that this Island was cut out of the plans for the Yttribian Republic, thus relinquishing all future claims on this land. Since then, there have been no future claims.

Mr. Speaker, I am willing to concede that there have been minority groups in Yttribia claiming this Island, and even small government advances towards the Island but Mr. Speaker, it is also true that Yttribian maps have only restarted naming this Island as Haase Island in the past year, and this is under the influence of the Corvax Party.

The facts are Mr. Speaker, that since 1949, approaching two hundred years this land has been a part of the Royal Isles, and that is not going to change. And that is why we, as a council, must prepare a contingency plan and joint position against these vicious advances by The Corvax Party.

While I hope this statement is rendered obsolete by the failure of The Corvax Party to take control of Yttribia, I feel it is necessary that we are prepared as a Council and as an Island to deal with any future advances.

Menukten tied with Gregoryisgodistan for first at end of first round robin

Menukten has proved just how good they are at Ultimate by sweeping aside all competition and tying Gregoryisgodistan for first after the end of the first round robin. Menukten and Gregoryisgodistan are followed by Alparia, Britonisea, Electrum and Cosumar, all strong able teams who could make trouble for Menukten's surge to the finals. Electrum, Menukten's groupmate, had a bad day against Menukten yesterday, but the Dibbley-Dos certainly have the skill to make it to the quarterfinals at least, and probably to the semifinals. There lead scorer, Chantelle de Vries, who is also their team captain, has certainly been making a name for herself in this tournament, and has gotten a couple clubs in the Discaligwa excited about possibly picking her up in a trade. Her swift drives and powerful feints as well as her layout have shut down the Celterite and Estenian defenses and certainly gave Menukten a bit of trouble as well. However Kwenakw, Kekeleksu and Opalanie were able to answer her in the second half, shutting down her offense with an effective mark by Opalanie, and slapping down the deep drives and hucks that entered the Menukten endzone. With de Vries paralyzed, the rest of the Electrumite team was easy to deal with, and Menukten cut through their defense like butter, placing the disc in their endzone time after time with the Electrumites visibly struggling to keep up with the Menuktenite cutters speed. The game finished 17-9, Menukten almost scoring half as many goals as Electrum.

The win was certainly expected, but Menukten cannot afford to write off Electrum when they meet them again in four days. The Dibbly-Dos will be out for revenge and, if the Mutterers let their guard down, they very well may get it.

Electrum was given a wake up call after their loss to Menukten. They lost by a huge amount to Menukten, 9-17 in what was deemed one of the worst performances at the worst possible time. In what looked to be a close match in the first half blown out to an assured victory to Menukten after Dibbly-Dos's defences fell apart. There was a strong wind gust which just made Chantelle de Vries's outstretched hand too far away from the frisbee. This was probably the turning point of the match when Menukten scored 5 consecutive points to secure victory.

The Dibbly-Do's were of course dejected, but team captain Chantelle said, "At least Electrum can still qualify in second position -- that is, if we don't overtake Menukten." Chantelle De Vries is right, however Electrum will need to hope something spectacular happens for them as even if Electrum beats them the next time round, they will have an enormous goal differential to catch up on. With Menukten on +20, they seem unstoppable after their wins against the whole group. Although they are in the lead, they are very cautious about their chances with handler Alemahe ock Cuwuceck saying that, "Although we beat everyone, we must not be over confident, we've seen what can happen to those teams."

Rightly so Alemahe can say that, as the Menukten is home to the Discaligwa, an Ultimate tournament full of twists and turns as 166 teams battle it out for the top position in 330 games. A bad form means a sudden drop in ranking and there are no margins for error. This makes the Menukten less error-prone and more conscious in winning. With Electrum's amateurness getting in the way of their success (Recall that they are from Centralis University) means that it will be a hard journey for them. From this point on they will have to play smart, mark (block the frisbee) more and slide whenever they can to grab some turnovers.

We can see the Electrum team moving onwards to the finals series, but only with persistence. They are likely to go up against another team in the playoffs for a spot in the final 8, and this is where the pressure will really start to build. Although one half of the team is already used to pressure (as some play for the rugby side as well), the other half won't be so, and it's these players that will need to pick up their game if they want a chance to go through.

Ohtas: With the first round robin of the tourney finished, let's take a look at those teams Menukten will be seeing in the knock out stages.

Gregoryisgodistan

This cinderella team has tied Menukten for the top spot in the tournament, and even leads in point differential. #2 Retiree B1838012881WA has led the team in points, which is completely dumbfounding, considering how old he is. It is hard to see how a team composed of people who have never played the game before can be so good. Perhaps it is the constant threat of death in the case of failure which has motivated the Gregoryisgodistanis to sweep their group. Whatever the case, they're one of the top contenders for the UC trophy and a team Menukten will definitely see in the semifinals, if not the finals themselves.

Alparia

Coming from an initial loss to Anditia, the Hawks have really proved that they are not a team to be scoffed at. Their subsequent wins over Macquarrie and the Hutt River have catapulted them to the top of their group, with a 2-1 record. Simon Ponder has proved a cutter too fast and ducky to handle, leading the Alparian team in points, and also proving himself a good defense=man as well. Expect to see them in the semifinals.

Britonisea

With a similar record to Alparia and a loss against the Yttribian stoners, Britonisea is definitely looking at a semifinal berth, with Kington Quebois and Boyst Lucky dominating their opponent's endzone and proving themselves up to the task of throwing off their marks. I think Alparia is the better team; however, I wouldn't stake anything on it.

Electrum

Our groupmates, Electrum, are a semifinal wildcard. They will definitely be seen in the quarterfinals. Captain Chantelle de Vries has proven herself a capable cutter. Their loss to us doesn't mean much. We are the best team in the tourney, after all, and Electrum only had the misfortune to be in our group. If Electrum had been placed elsewhere, I think they would still have a perfect record.

News Section - Centralis Herald - Max Gorky

At 3pm local time in Cocoa Island, there was one too many temporal tears as the whole island collapsed on itself. How does an island collapse on itself? The island had a large fissure in the middle and both sides of the island moved away from the fissure, lifted itself up and then the two halves squished themselves together and the two halves fell back into their respective slots again.

This comes after Sally Long Fire, the head of state for Menukten, warned the world that these temporal disturbances would lead to 'a host of inter-dimensional creatures called the Frabbage' escaping and basically causing havoc to the universe. Scientists in Electrum however, disagree with that evaluation, stating that, "This is simply bunkum. This 'Frabbage' situation seems to me draws some parallels to something else. It is a parallel to Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials series where dimensional disturbances (in our situation temporal) lead to the formation of Spectres (our Frabbages) and sadly, the Magisterium tries to stop us (and this is our parallel to the Menuktenite Mourning Guild). Sadly, his work is a fiction, therefore, this situation is also a fiction."

Jim Snakeoil, who's arm was chopped off as a result of the events earlier today said that, "Oh, we were just cleaning out the pipes below the ground. We just prayed to our god, Margaret and sacrificed a few chickens... and then she flipped the island up side down so that all the clogged drains were unclogged! What a miracle!"

Frabbages or Margaret? Which one is actually causing these events, if at all? Can't we just simply chalk it to coincidence? Or are more sinister forces involved...?

Menukten completly decimates Estenia

Menukten crushed the Estenians in a 17-6 victory that left the slavic team demoralized and crushed. Leonic Gorbunov, Igor Zharkov and Vladislav Loginovsky were the only scorers for the Estenian team, Gorbunov scoring four times, Zharkov once and Loginovsky once. In contrast Kwenemuchkw ock Tulumopeck had an excellent day, scoring 11 of Menukten's nineteen points, with Kwenakw scoring 3, Kekeleksu 2, Opalanie 1 and handler Alemahe 1.

The win was expected, and Menukten is gearing up to dominate Celter tomorrow in a similar fashion. Menukten's group, which has been deemed "a cake walk" by Menukten sportscasters, really has nothing to test the real metal of Menukten's skill besides the amateur, but quite skilled Electrum. With Menukten so far undefeated, will the Mutterers be able to make it out of their group 6-0, or will Electrum knock them down a turn before Menukten enters the quarterfinals?

HAWKS SIT IN SECOND PLACE

The Alparian Ultimate National Team sits in 2nd place in Group C after 4 games of play. They have beaten group favorites Macquarrie, and Hutt River, but have lost twice to Anditia. Overall, the coaches and staff think the team is headed in the right direction, but think the next two matches are critical for the future of Alparia. Here is what the coaches, and captain Simon Ponder had to say after the first 4 games..

SIMON PONDER :
"Overall I think we are doing pretty well, for underdogs I'd say. Everyone on the team has taken a serious approach on the field, and in training meetings held by our coaches. I would say these next two matches will be important for us to determine weather we are advancing or not."

COACH MARVIN DANIELS :
"Excellent start to the tournament. Overall, this is only the second international tournament for Alparia, and in my opinion I think we've done hell of a great job. We managed to defeat the group favorites, and hopefully we can do it again.. As for now, I have held a training meeting for the guys which I must attend to at this moment..

The Protanic Prolific Pandas have been competing in the 4th annual Ultimate Cup over the past few weeks and have been doing mediocrely --at best. While an exciting game to watch, the recent announcement of the return of the Anditon Wolves American Football team in World Bowl XXIII and the ongoing World Lacrosse Championship 18 hosted by Anditia has drawn much of the focus from the PPP. Nonetheless, on the college circuit, following the Pandas has become somewhat of a cult activity with students regularly skipping class to watch the matches in awe (rather than skipping to watch lousy gameshows on television or play games in which cartoon characters beat each other senseless with exciting arcade action). When asked about their thoughts on the current situation, a group of students from Jarben University commented with the following:
"The Pandas have accepted the challenge. They're 3 and 2 in Group D and have a chance to make it into the knock-out rounds if they win this last game. If they lose - I don't know what would happen. I mean, I guess they would lose but you know, its strange and there's tie breakers and stuff."

When asking assistant captain Ian Schinn about his thoughts on the game he instead recounted a rousing tale about his dreams for the final match of the round-robin in a semi-lyrical rap:

"Thats great, it starts with me awake
Pandas shake, a long disc and I am not afraid

We start looking downfield coming up from other side
Running down and looking up, looking down and running up
Beating off an ox beating up the disc as we look around it look around it.
Flier and a fire representing the last game and a knockoff spot at a combat spot.
Left and right we run about in a hurry then theres the fury brooding in our necks.

Other team is so symbolic, and bucolic and we're feeling pretty psyched.

Following this expulsion of logorrhea, Schinn collapsed.
