It's that time again. Let's dust off the ol' pigskin and get back into business.

1) Sign-ups
To sign-up for the Twenty-Third World Bowl, simply post your intentions to compete in this thread.
Puppets
For non-first-time participants, you may sign up a second nation, or a 'puppet'. To sign up a puppet: post with that nation, making it clear that it is a puppet, then confirm that it's yours with your master nation. Or mention your puppet in your master nation's post and then confirm with your puppet. Just make sure you confirm that both nations are yours. Be warned that puppets will be the first to go if the host needs to cut nations to make the numbers work.

2) Host Bids
As those already familiar with the competition know, we need a host for this shin-dig. How do we get that host? By interested nations posting host bids. A good host bid should contain scorination information, proposed format of the competition, maybe some IC background information, and a little bit of writing on the subject of why you should be host (IC and OoC info, for preference). You can write host bids from an OoC or IC voice; that is your choice. You can see the winning bid from the last cycle for reference (or the one from two cycles ago for an example with a more normal format). Once the deadline for hosting bids to be submitted has passed, we will vote on who will host World Bowl XXIII (and possibly BoI whichever one is next).

The deadline for host bids is Friday, April 18th. Ideally we'll have the World Bowl started by the time May rolls around, or just about if a BoI is held, which will require the entry of 16 users new to the World Bowl.

Super-Llamaland and San José Guayabal’s host bid for Baptism of Iron XVI

Who are we (OOC edition)?

Super-Llamaland, colloquially known as “Llama” if you can’t spell “Super”, hosted the second Watterson Bowl, the first International Baseball Slam, and the third International Baseball Slam. He’s RPed for over a year on this forum now and has won numerous trophies, chief among them the World Baseball Classic 28 trophy.

San José Guayabal, also known colloquially as San José Guayabal or as Guaya, is not the most popular in NationStates, but is a constant and good RPer and hoster, having hosted Copa de La Paz and The September Tennis Championships and World Junior Hockey Champs V (5), having RPed constantly since october 2013, is one of the rising promises in NSSports due to his fast progress in sports.

Who are we (IC edition)?

The “Partyless” Republic of Super-Llamaland, or officially the Republic of Super-Llamaland, is a nation located on a large island somewhere in the tropical climate of Oceanside. Once the homelands and then ruins of the mighty Denizon empire, Super-Llamaland was later colonized by other nations of Oceanside and eventually gained autonomy as a kingdom in the 1700s and a republic in 1912. Known for progressive policies, your athletes should be abnormally safe in Super-Llamaland due to their crime-stopping techniques.

San José Guayabal is a nation who tends to create interesting situations during the tournament, when the security will prevail and is very generous when we talk of prizes to the winners. San José Guayabal is also a nation of beautiful scenery, long and harsh winters, multiple cultures and large human development, which proclaims the equality of all. It is located in the sporting region of Esportiva, more specifically on the continent of Inferiore Minore, near the south pole, with a size of almost 2.7 million square kilometers and a population of 325 million inhabitants according to the last census in 2013, with diverse cultures and beautiful coasts as well as many sports fans.

Format

Our proposed formats show a conventional double round-robin group stage, with each team playing their groupmates once at home and once away.

• 16 teams: 4 groups of 4
• 18 teams: 3 groups of 6
• 20 teams: 4 groups of 5
• 24 teams: 4 groups of 6

Tiebreakers
The following tiebreakers will be used to determine group standing:

1. Point differential
2. H2H record
3. H2H point differential
4. Tiebreaker game

Playoffs

In the above formats, the quarterfinal qualifiers would be

• 16 teams: top two in group
• 18 teams: top two in group plus two lucky third-place wildcard teams
• 20 teams: top two in group
• 24 teams: top two in group

Nations would be seeded by the following tiebreakers:
1. Overall record
2. Point differential
3. A “ranking committee” (OOC: your RP bonus)
4. Coin flip

The playoff format would be an eight-team, double-elimination bracket no matter what the format.

Who will scorinate what?

In a four-group format, Super-Llamaland will take Groups A and B while San José Guayabal will take Groups C and D. In a three-group format, Super-Llamaland will take Groups A and B while San José Guayabal will take Group C. Unless, of course, Llama's BoI puppet Hicana is drawn in Llama's groups. In that case, they'd switch hosting duties (four groups) or Guayabal would take Hicana's group//Llama would take Guaya's group (three groups).

In the playoffs, Super-Llamaland will take one side of the bracket (if applicable, the one Hicana isn't on) while San José Guayabal will take the other. The finals will be scorinated by San José Guayabal, while Super-Llamaland will take the third-place match if one is needed.

How will my roleplaying and rosters be graded?

Roleplays, no matter what the subject as long as it’s forum-appropriate, will be graded on a scale of 0-2, with quality favored over length (although we wish anybody who tries to write two-line, “quality” RP bonuses good luck-they’ll need it). Rosters will be graded on a scale of 0-3.

Twice during the tournament (one in the middle of qualifiers and one before playoffs), we will give nations opportunities to earn up to one free point in their RP if they perform a certain RP challenge. Some examples from the Watterson Bowl II, one of Super-Llamaland’s tournaments that used them (Example: “Write rhyming haiku” and “Include every letter of the English alphabet in your RP except for "h". RP must be longer than 100 words.”), or funny and bizarre situations that SJG will include throughout the tournament as: delays, fans, UFO invasion, etc.
