Kinitaria National Football Team
For the 68th World Cup Qualifiers
Image

The golden age of Kinitar football? Perhaps. They made a stir at the last finals, qualifying from the group stage in their maiden appearance, and pulled off a fantastic AOCAF host job in which they also impressed. Despite this, the rhetoric from high and low is that Kinitaria wants more, and their ambitions are no longer to merely qualify. They want to be the best they can be. They want Kinitaria to have a serious shot at a title within the next few cycles.

Manager: Melody Pond (age 40)
Third place in the Cup of Harmony. Last 16 of the World Cup finals. Pond's achievements might not be setting the world alight, but they mean so much to Kinitar fans who have been deprived of any meaningful appearance on the international stage. Although she hasn't claimed any trophies in her time in charge, Melody is undoubtedly the most successful manager in Kinitar history, and may have secured herself a place in history as the one who elevated the national team to true contenders on the world stage.

Players
After being widely criticised for experimenting with her team's formations in crucial games, it looks like a standard 4-4-2 for Melody. But she's lost some crucial players ahead of the World Cup qualifiers, age forcing some former stars to retire from international football.

1. Semil Alčer - GK - age 31 - Universita Tirinthea - 4 caps - 0 goals
Alčer is the new number one, following the retirement of Jaren Kozak from international football. He comes into the Kinitaria squad without a great deal of experience, but does have a deep-seated desire to cement his place in the starting 11 before one of his challengers can snatch it away from him.

2. Birka Sulemcev - LB - age 30 - AFC Damaciu - 13 caps - 0 goals
The tradition of the Kinitar game is for hard, physical play, and that's definitely what Melody Pond was looking for when she called Sulemcev up to the national side. A real tough left-back, he's known as a dogfighter back at his club for his persistance and constant physical presence in all areas of the game. He's hard but fair in the tackle - unless he gets carried away in the heat of the big game.

3. Ciprian Marin - CB - age 35 - East Franz Athletic (PIS) - 99 caps - 10 goals
How long has he got left? Not long, in all likelihood. It seems like he'll be retiring at the end of this cycle, having went from an inconsistent liability to a fan favourite in the national team. He's certainly done well out of his Kinitaria career - he'll want to go out with a bang this time around, though. Look for some hard tackles in the traditional Kinitar style.

4. David Topol - CB - age 30 - Mi'ato - 52 caps - 2 goals
Following an impressive breakthrough in the Premier Division, Topol has earned his place in the national team. He's not the tallest of players, but he makes up for it in determination and technical ability. He's remarkably calm under pressure, and is one for the big games, and has now established himself as a deserving member of the first team squad.

5. Tondro Shildir - RB - age 27 - Universita Tirinthea - 0 caps - 0 goals
Melody Pond was left with a problem in picking her team for this World Cup, in that both of her right-backs had retired from international football. The bulky Shildir has been asked to fill in, and with his stamina, aggression and determination, he's widely expected to be a perfect fit for the Kinitar style of play.

6. Sergiu Vacarestič - LW - age 36 - Atletika Avnani - 168 caps - 39 goals
Vacarestič is now one of the first names on the teamsheet, despite a shaky start to his Kinitaria career. He is an attacking-minded winger who slots perfectly into Kinitaria's formation, and he's just as likely to cut inside and have a go at goal as well as sending in a cross from the left - preferring to cross early and attempt to beat the offside trap. This will be his last appearance at the top level.

7. Samuel Costica - CM - age 33 - Inovita - 83 caps - 14 goals
He's made a strong and consistent impact on the national team since being brought through from the youths in the 62 qualifiers, and now he's been rewarded for years of good service with a spot in the first team and the number seven shirt. Expect him to try to use his pace to beat his marker before spreading the ball out wide to launch an attack. Distribution is definitely one of his strong points.

8. Malen Elkinič - CM - age 27 - Mi'ato - 42 caps - 11 goals
A pacy midfielder, Elkinič provides some much-needed speed to Kinitaria's midfield line. Despite being one of the youngest members of the team, he's slotted into the squad well and works well with his team-mates. He's a very attack-minded player and gets a fair few goals out of this, but it often means that he's caught too far upfield and is vulnerable to the counter-attack.

9. Virne Limcič - FW - age 28 - Atletika Vanuku - 11 caps - 3 goals
After impressing in the domestic game, Limcič was been rewarded with a spell in the national team, and was given a shot at impressing the manager during WC67 qualification. He stepped up to the big time in style and contributed some crucial goals, firing him up the list and giving Pond a real selection dilemma in attack.

10. Navra Kulisev - CF - age 26 - Mi'ato - 38 caps - 16 goals
Wearing the number 10 shirt of national legend Luka Sabčot certainly gives him some huge boots to fill. He's happy to take on the challenge, and all the early signs are good. He's an excellent finisher, but is not unknown to have a go from long-range either. He's not 100% confident of himself yet, and can be nervous for big games, but a few key goals in WC67 qualification have made him the first choice.

11. Zenel Halil - RW - age 33 - Civita Mi'ato - 51 caps - 8 goals
After being drafted into the national side, Halil was expected to impress immediately, and he certainly did just that. A very versatile player who can support the attack or defense, Halil has became known as a key part of Kinitaria's fluid formation. He's a very skillful player and he certainly knows it, but this does mean he'll occasionally get caught out trying to be too clever.

12. Doriel Azinovič - GK - age 36 - AFC Damaciu - 0 caps - 0 goals
Is this his chance? Well, erm, possibly. Azinovič has been a member of the squad for some four cycles now without receiving a cap, mainly because the goalkeeper position has been dominated by his rivals for so long. This might be the only chance he ever gets, so if he does get called up to the plate, he'll be chomping at the bit to retain his position.

13. Kovra Mircič - CB - age 26 - Civita Mi'ato - 6 caps - 0 goals
Melody Pond had a need, through retirement of some older players, to find some young defenders who were ready to take that step up to the national side. She seems to have a good bet in Mirčic, a strong, intelligent centre-back who has shown his talent for his club. He does have a tendency to rush into clumsy challenges, which is something he'll need to work on at international level.

14. Zemir Pavlov - RM - age 25 - AFC Damaciu - 8 caps - 1 goal
Little is known about Pavlov outside of Damaciu, and indeed some have criticised Pond for going with youth ahead of experience in some of her selections for the squad. But he certainly brings plenty of enthusiasm as well as a bit of pace, and is certain to always give 100% every game. That said, he's still very fresh and not used to the rigours of the high-level game.

15. Himo Kazran - CM - age 26 - FC Serenberg - 11 caps - 1 goal
A strong and bulky midfielder, but often a careless one, he needs some work to hone him into a proper national team player yet. He plays a defensive style, and might be brought in for games against higher-ranked teams, or when Kinitaria are desperately hanging on. However, he's not yet experienced enough to have an established run in the first team.

16. Milan Beskid - CF - age 33 - Universita Tirinthea - 93 caps - 50 goals
He's still got it, despite his advancing years, which means that he's given a spot in the squad even if he might not still be up to the standards of international football. He can still score some spectacular goals and make life a misery for opposing defenders, but he would struggle to last the full 90 minutes of any game.

17. Paolo Izmar - LB - age 24 - Obiša Litora - 0 caps - 0 goals
It's a mixture of youthful determination and physical play that have seen Izmar get handed a chance at the very highest level. When he's on form, he'll command the defence like no-one else, and is thoroughly terrifying to play against. When he's off form, he's still terrifying, but only because he'll probably break someone's leg and get sent off.

18. Vilo Mulkanov - CM - age 23 - Dinamo Paleu - 10 caps - 3 goals
This boy is a hero. He scored the vital goal in the 9th minute of added time that fired Kinitaria to the 67 finals, as well as a crucial last-minute winner against the Sova Empire to keep their hopes alive in the first place. The world is at his feet, but Kinitaria will be hoping that the glamour of international football doesn't lead to him getting his head turned.

19. Kiril Dalmerov - FW - age 25 - Civita Mi'ato - 0 caps - 0 goals
Some will ask why Dalmerov hasn't been handed a spot in the national team sooner. It's true that he's certainly capable of scoring some stunning goals, but he does blow hot and cold, and is liable to switch off at the key moment. Look for him to be brought on if Kinitaria desperately need goals, rather than someone who'll dominate the attack.

20. Telmar Brizi - CB - age 27 - Obiša Litora - 2 caps - 0 goals
Although nominally a centre-back, Brizi can play anywhere in defense and has some capabilities in midfield as well. He's not going to amaze the world, wherever he plays, but seems to have been brought in as a substitute who can shore up Kinitaria's leaky back-line when needed, and he makes up for this by always putting in maximum effort in games and in training.

21. Erekor Finalev - CM - age 22 - Civita Mi'ato - 1 cap - 0 goals
Despite fitting Pond's policy of giving youth a chance, Finalev has been included more as a chance for one of Kinitaria's finest young players to gain experience, than as a world-class player who'll dazzle the world. He's yet to play a single competitive match, and is considered little more than a backup to the first team.

22. Samor Petran - RB - age 23 - Mi'ato - 0 caps - 0 goals
If that name looks familiar, well, Samor is the son of Costin Petran, who wore the number 1 shirt for the national team for a decade. He's determined to make his own name for himself, and his "take no prisoners" style of defending has won him many fans amongst the Mi'ato faithful. Might well get a chance to shine in the national side.

23. Bravi Pirnišov - GK - age 28 - AFC Damaciu - 0 caps - 0 goals
A third choice keeper. You can insert your own joke about how they're largely irrelevant.

Kits
ImageImage

As is standard, Kinitaria introduce a new set of kits for this cycle, with their home kit the traditional blue and yellow, this time featuring red trim, and the away kit this stylish new yellow effort.

Fans
Image
Kinitar fans burning flares in a Cup of Harmony game

Kinitar fans are known for their passion. They're also known for burning down a significant portion of the Tricorn Arena in Wight during the Cup of Harmony 53, although the FFK has naturally disavowed all responsibility, and supporters' groups maintain that the shoddy construction of the host stadium was to blame. Either way, lighting flares is a part of fan culture in Kinitaria, and there's always the possibility that a Kinitaria goal will turn the air thick with smoke. During the match, the team are typically roared on by 70,000 home fans screaming themselves hoarse non-stop throughout the game, which creates an intimidating atmosphere for visiting teams - although the fact that the aforementioned flares, among other things, are sometimes thrown at visiting players or fans might also contribute to this. The fights which characterise some of the most fierce club matches, such as the cross-capital derby between hated rivals Mi'ato City and Mi'ato, have yet to make their way to international level, although some say that this is merely because they haven't found the right spark yet. The FFK has been somewhat reluctant to take action against such matters, because "it's all part of the game, isn't it?"

Tourist's Handbook:

1) Where is Maklohi Vai and how do I get there?
Maklohi Vai is an island group, comprising an archipelago and a truncated volcanic chain, located in southeast Atlantian Oceania. There are ferries to some other nations in AO, but those are long rides typically unsuitable for tourists. The best way to get to Maklohi Vai is by plane, most likely through Kolo Lahi International Airport. From there, there are connecting flights, roads, ferries, or trains to all other destinations in the country.

2) Will I be able to communicate with the locals?
Maklohi Vai is a bilingual nation, with 98% of the citizenry knowing both Vaian and English. Highly educated people, no matter their field, will typically learn one or two more languages, often an East Asian language (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.) or a major Romance language (French, Spanish, Portuguese, etc.). Those working in cultural and historical fields often learn Siroyese and Samoan as well. If none of these meet your language, there are translators available at all visitor information centers and major tourist destinations.

3) Where can I stay?
There are numerous hotels and smaller hostels in and around every city. The Vaian economy is largely built on tourism, so there’s plenty of options in many places. If you need help, you can contact the National Tourism Bureau.

4) What and where can I eat?
Like hotels, restaurants and cafes are abundant in cities and along highways linking the cities. In the more tourist heavy sections of the country, as well as those more metropolitan areas, cuisine is global, encompassing a number of options from nearly any place you can think of. If you’re looking for a trendy bite, try out a Vaian fusion restaurant, the new kids on the scene. If you’re off the beaten path in other parts of the country, you’re likely to find the local cuisine more frequently. This consists largely of fish and other seafood, tropical fruit, a multitude of spices, and various root vegetables like taro.

5) Are there any religious services available?
Yes, although they may be hard to find. Maklohi Vai is 94% atheist, with the remaining 6% being almost entirely Christian, mainly Mormon and Catholic. As such, it’s not hard to find those places of worship if you’re in a big city. There are a few other Protestant denominational churches in Kolo Lahi and Totai, a mosque in Kolo Lahi, and a synagogue in Wakita.

6) What cultural norms should I observe?
Vaians are very friendly, welcoming people. If they see you looking around lost, they’ll come over and help. If they see you looking very much like a tourist on the street, they’ll wave and say hello, a gesture which you should return. It is considered impolite to not accept an offer of hospitality such as a ride to where you’re going or another offer of assistance. Do not try to pay those who help you, as this is typically embarassing; it is better to give a sincere thanks and a warm handshake.

7) Will I be safe?
There is little to no daylight crime whatsoever, especially not in tourist areas. Likewise, if you’re going to a restaurant or bar and there are a lot of other people around, you will be perfectly safe. If you must be out at night alone, it’s safe on major roads and in the downtowns of cities. The danger lies in the rural parts of the country, off the main roads. There are opportunist theives who are not afraid to strip you of your belongings before letting you go. Murder and violent crime rates are extremely low.

8) What health services are available?
The nationalized healthcare system admits foreign patients free of charge for a one time ER visit. If you enter a hospital, costs are subsidized heavily, but do expect a bill. Amublances run with great speed, as do the police. Dial 444 on any phone to get services.

9) Are there sensitive politics that I should avoid?
If you are not a native of Maklohi Vai or otherwise very well acquainted with its political situation, it is considered bad form to make disparaging remarks against government officials. Mild criticism is acceptable, although not warmly welcomed, and if you voice strong opinions contrary to the present political situation, be prepared for a debate. Vaians love to talk politics and love even more to engage in a intellectual debate about it, especially with someone who doesn’t know what they’re talking about. It is best to not be that person.

10) How is the civil rights situation?
Maklohi Vai is ranked highly internationally for civil rights, and all people are accepted regardless of any preference, with one major exception: religious fundamentalists. The Mormon population in other countries may be known for their prosletyzing, but in Maklohi Vai they stay quiet for a good reason: Over 3/4 of the country identifies as anti-fundamentalist and anti-religious activism. If you hold particularly strong religious beliefs, do not share them out loud, let alone try to persuade others of them. This is a very good way to make a Vaian’s good charm flip to the opposite emotion. Besides this, there is almost no reason to be scared because of who you are.
"For the glory of our people, we govern our nation freely. For the glory of Polynesia, we help and strengthen our friends. For the glory of the earth, we do not destroy what it has bestowed upon us."

Mastillean National Soccer Team

Mastille is a somewhat large city, but a small-ass nation, as described by the Government. The city-state was located on a slim peninsula, stretching from the tip of it towards the end of it on the continent of Andarica, located in Esportiva. However, for the course of World Cup qualifiers, the team will play in Saint Anne and Jacob, due to the destruction Mastille during the 55th Baptism of Fire, as the currently search for a new home. Domestically, the Mastille Department of Sport have decided an unconventional way of sending in their national squad to the World Cup, and Baptism of Fire. The winner of the Mastillean domestic league shall represent the nation of Mastille in future World Cups. However, despite the DoS barely organizing the "Ligue Fédéral", scheduled to only take place once every World Cup Cycle, the DoS have authorized an all-star selection for the Baptism of Fire, and their World Cup Qualifiers.

National Anthem: Mon Frère de la Paix (My Brother of Peace)
Nickname: Les Lions
Head Coach: Hester Savage, 43
Savage is the first ever manager of the Mastillean team, bringing countless hours of amateur experience of playing and coaching to the professional stage. She was chosen as the manager by the DoS, and is considered to be one of the best candidates for retiring Vice President of Football Operations, Laurent Sheard, depending on the outcome of Mastille's performance. Nevertheless, she will stick with team throughout Mastille's first cycle in this World Cup. Her orientation of coaching is considered as more attacking than defensive.

"Wait we have a roster"

"Well technically we do, how else can we call out players by name?"

"I don't know any of the players"

"Oh great, that's just wonderful"

"Well do you?"

"I know that Alexander's in goal, Martin's at defensive midfield -"

"Wait Milchama doesn't have a defensive midfielder, we play a 3-3-4 +1 style of football"

"Ok fine, well Martin is the central midfielder, Max is one of the wings, Davis is the other. Kendrick, Olam, Haim, and Achmed make up the defense"

"That's pretty good what about the forwards"

"Marc J. Floren, Avi Belmowitz, and Kelvin James"

"But those are the three best strikers in Milchamian history?"

"Yep, and they're all playing"

"I though two of them are dead"

"Oh they are"

"Then how are they playing?"

"Well they're lifeless bodies are just there, I don't really understand how we score"

"Cool"

"So in other words, opponents can do whatever they want"

"Exactly"

"Cool"

"Well let's hope that our dead guys work out"

"Yep"

Introducing the Furellum Anybodies!
Furellum's senior squad have been totally overshadowed by the under-15 team, who are quickly turning into the Audioslavia Polar Islandstates whoever else is sort of good but doesn't win of the junior footballing world, having been runner-ups twice and third once. Despite an unlucky set-back in the Baptism of Fire, where they were eliminated after the group stage on goal difference, and a moderate performance in last year's qualifiers, Furellum are hoping this year will be their year. They've had a slight setback after being forced to change their nickname when Furellum's native turtle population objected. After much debate, they finally came up with a name everybody could agree with...

The Background
To the unaware, Furellum is nothing more then a small island at the mouth of the Taaru sea in Atlantian Oceania. However, this is only the tip of the iceberg, as it were. The vast majority of the country is situated in another dimension, accessible only through the magical bridge which connects the White Tower in Altsby and its otherworld counterpart, the Moonlight Tower, in Other Altsby. Furellum is a land of magic, soaked in ether which the wizards of the country bend to their will. The country is home to many different races, species of animals made sentient and human-like by some powerful magic long since forgotten. They have been here for time immemorial, but only since the medieval period have humans lived in Furellum, when it became a Grand Duchy of the Kingdom of Maalvia. Much of Furellum is still stuck in the middle ages, with modern technology only beginning to creep into the nation.

The Team
Motto - "Victoria et hoc genus omne"
#1. Gregor Petrovich (Polar Bear) Goalkeeper
A dominating presence between the goal, Gregor relies on his massive bulk rather than agility to keep shots out. Seen as a solid choice for the team, he's inclusion as the starting keeper over Dumitrescu caused some eyebrows to be raised. Petrovich is especially good at rushes, and likes to use them, perhaps too often.

#5. Sorin Vladimirescu (Human) Left Back
Sorin is a minor member of the Maalvian Royal family, who rule over Furellum. As such he is often placed on a pedestal by the lower-class members of the team, even though their is nothing aristocratic about his nature. This image of royalty has been enhanced by his recent move to club giants SK Franz Josef City in Polar Islandstates.

#3. Ragnar Asbjorn (Polar Bear) Left Centre Back
Asbjorn is big and tough, but he is also remarkably quick. One of the newest members of the team, he often acts like he has something to prove, and ths sometimes causes him to go in too hard and foul opposing strikers. Due to his bulk, once they're hit, they stay down, often causing Asbjorn to be yellow-carded where others might be let off with a warning.

#2. Bronislav Mlaker (Badger) Centre Back
Cute and Cuddly, Mlaker has also been voted the player most likely to rip your head off and spit down your neck. A player with a mean streak, Mlaker is a fierce competitor for the ball. He may give away a lot of fouls, but referees should be prepared for the consequences should they get on his bad side...

# 15. Marian Constantin (Elk) Right Centre Back
The polar opposite of Lagunov, Constantin is cool, calm and collected. Since Krupin's shock departure from the national team, he's been dropped into the starting line-up. Constantin excels at precision tackling and passing under pressure, and could well be a game changer when the stakes are down.

#4. Fyodor Iosef (Horse) Right Back (Captain)
Solid, dependable and strong. Iosef ticks all the boxes for a defender. His gentle disposotion and calming influence on his team, especially Mlaker, has also led to him being given the captain's armband, a burden he does not bear lightly. Fyodor was also named as part of Baptism of Fire 53's "Team of the Tournament".

#7. Symon Maksimov (Grey Wolf) Left Midfielder
Maksimov is one of the most technically skilled players on the team, and is well renowned for his ball control skills. Known as a friendly player, Maksimov plays clean, using his skills to avoid contact with opposing players.

#8. Robert Alexandrescu (Human) Midfielder
A multi-talented athlete, Robert plays a wide variety of sports. While the fittest player on the team, he only recently took up football, raising questions about his readiness to be on the national side.

#9. Germogen Sokoloff (Cheetah) Right Midfielder
The quickest player on the team by a long shot, Sokoloff is the key to the Turtle's attack. He has the speed to beat the opposing defence and the skills to find a penetrating pass to the forwards. If he has a weakness it is in his stamina, and he will rarely last a full ninety minutes without being replaced.

#10. Moisey Vaduva (Markhor Goat) Left Striker
He may look like an old veteran with his almost floor length braided beard, but don't be fooled. Moisey is a youngster at just twenty-one, and as such plays a mostly supporting role in providing the more experienced and skilled Szczelaszczyk with scoring opportunities.

#11. Eleazar Szczelaszczyk (Leopard) Right Striker
The star of the national team, Eleazar is from a well known sporting family. His son Ezra is an up and coming striker, having competed in the U-15 and U-21 World Cup squads, and his father was a pro-golfer on the Furellum circuit. Fast and flashy, Szczelaszczyk will be a big contender in the box, much to the despair of foreign commentators who are likely to have to repeat his last name.

The Reserves
#12. Volodya Dumitrescu (Hare) Goalkeeper
An unlikely choice for a goalkeeper due to his diminutive size, Volodya makes up for it with an impressive leap, good reactions, and a strong grip. He's fairy useless against short balls and penalties though, which is why Petrovich is the main keeper for the team.

#14. Vyacheslav Lagunov (Hippo) Defender
The number 13 is considered unlucky in Furellum, so Lagunov was given 14 instead. It doesn't seem to have made a difference to his luck though, as Lagunov has got to be the most clumsiest player ever to take to a field. On the national team mainly because two tonnes of flesh tearing down on you is intimidating for any forward, Lagunov is rarely called on for fear he may unleash chaos on the pitch. The only player in the history of Furellum football to score three own goals in a single match, his powerful kick might be a deadly weapon if only he could control it.

#6. Lievin Zaboulon (Otter) Defender
Zaboulon, like many otters in Furellum, comes from a fishing village along the Rode river. As the middle child of eight in a working-class family, he's lived a hard life, but that only motivates him more on the pitch. Football is Lievin's life, and he is a hardworking defender with a good ability to harass opposing players and steal the ball from under their noses.

# 16. Nicolae Popescu (Human) Midfielder
The often overlooked player on the national side, Nicolae spends most of his time as the team's benchwarmer. Merely an average player, his redeeming quality is that he can, in a pinch, be convinced to play in defence.

# 17. Luka Zelenko (Leopard) Midfielder
The player usually called on whenever Sokoloff runs out of steam, Zelenko is a decent attacking midfielder. Suspected of being a feline hybrid and not a pure-blood leopard, Zelenko has the ability to jump nearly two metres in the air, a useful ability whenever the Turtles have a corner.

# 18. Havryil Petrov (Maned wolf) Forward
A man with a chip on his shoulder, Petrov is aggressive, confrontational, and emotional. While he may seem at conflict with himself, when he's in control he is a good forward with a powerful left footpaw that is sure to keep opposing keepers on their toes.

# 19. Boleslav Balan (Black Boar) Forward
Not a team player, Boleslav's usual attacking method is to get the ball and charge towards goal, regardless of any defenders that might get in his way. While this may work sometimes, more often than not he will be dispossessed or called for a foul, so he is usually kept on the bench. He's like a nuclear weapon: Lethal, but extremely dangerous to those who use it and only utilised as a last resort.

Coach: Bogdan Antonescu (Banteng Cow)

The Stadium
There was some panic when it was discovered that Furellum needed a stadium to host games. Very few fields in the nation match WCC standards of size, pitch quality or even gradient (Ingridberg Minutemen's home field has one sideline 2 metres lower than the other). After much discussion, the FFA decided the best field in the country were the Duke's grounds in Altsby, and work was done to hastily erect seating and paint some lines on the grass. The newly named National Football Stadium is located in the grounds of the Duke's Palace in Altsby. For centuries generations of children have been sneaking onto this land to play football. With the growth of the game in Furellum, a local side, the Duke's XI Old Boys, claimed the park as their home ground. In reality, the park does not belong to them, as it is owned by the Duke and set aside for his exclusive use. But the Duke, as King of Maalvia, very rarely visits his far-off duchy, so the people have used the land with little fear of his finding out. The new seats can hold about 1000 people, and there is plenty of standing room for other spectators.

The Archregimancy WC68 Roster

First of all, everyone except newbies knows that the Archregimancy is a nation of Eastern Orthodox Christian monks from an alternate reality, right?

There's a football roster - oh yes, there's a football roster; see below.

But the main feature of this World Cup cycle is popular monastic man band...

The Backstreet Monks

Fr. Alexander James

Fr. Damian the Sweet-singer

Fr. Nickolas

Fr. Kentigern

Ft. Thomas

They'll be using the media of popular chant and monastic interpretive dance to comment on each match.

OOC: You are absolutely free to have them perform concerts in your nation. If you want to suggest a topic for a song for me to write - or a boy band song for me to parody - then please feel free to TG me; you'll get all due credit.
Please don't attempt to write a song for them, though; unless you're New Montreal States, you're unlikely to be able to make them sound convincingly Orthodox...

The actual team:

Goal:
Fr. Pachomius the Sure of Hand

Defence:
Fr. Auxentius the Merciful
Fr. Auxentius the Ascetic
Fr. Auxentius the Stern
Fr. Auxentius the Kind

Midfield:
Fr. George the Thoughtful
Fr. Manuel the Commanding [cap]
Fr. Theodosius the Wise
Fr. John the Clairvoyant

Forwards:
Fr. Irenaeus the Swift
Fr. Bathasius the Nimble

Manager/coach:
Fr. Stephen the Wonderworker

Formation:
The Archregimancy always plays an orthodox 4-4-2; style modifier +0.

Team Icon

The team is always accompanied to matches by the Holy Icon of the Mother of God, Bringer of Victory, which is paraded before the team before the match. The Holy Icon looks like:

Tips for footballing visitors to the Archregimancy:

1) Each home match is preceded by the complete Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom. Rest assured that this should only require visiting teams, fans, and officials to stand for a mere 2 hours before kickoff. Consider yourselves lucky we don't use the Liturgy of St. Basil. This isn't required or expected at away matches (though it's always hugely appreciated when a host Association/Federation does do so).

2) We control the nature of reality in the Dreamed Realm. This isn't used to cheat - all normal rules of football are strenuously followed - but it does have two major side effects:
A) Any injuries to either team in Archregimancy home matches are immediately healed.
B) No violent or riotous behaviour by visiting fans will be tolerated. Any such behaviour will find those responsible immediately transported back to ordinary physical reality.

3) Direct travel from ordinary physical reality to the Dreamed Realm is impossible. Some 72 hours before your away qualifier in the Archregimancy, a team of monks shall arrive in your home stadium and construct a portal to the Dreamed Realm. You may then use this to travel to the Archregimancy at your leisure.

4) Visiting support is limited to a maximum of 2000 fans (which is generous by recent Archregimancy standards).

5) Women are not usually permitted into the Archregimancy. Exceptions will be made for visiting players and properly accredited officials - largely because we have to.

6) Formerly, the Archregimancy made a point of being resentful of being forced to permit atheists, communists, freemasons, assorted heretics and foul excelites into the Archregimancy for home qualifiers. These days the Monastic Football Association tries a little harder to welcome all of the above – though largely in the hope that they might just possibly be open to conversion through a slightly more conciliatory approach.

More detailed information on visiting the Archregimancy, please see this post: viewtopic.php?p=18461733#p18461733

HOME GROUND

The monks are in a forgiving mood this World Cup. Home qualifiers will be at the ground of the relatively comfortable Holy Monastery of Iviron. The following picture shows the South Stand of the Holy Mother of God, behind one of the goals.

Godmod injuries to my players Y (within limits, see above)
Hand out Yellow cards to my players Y
Hand out Red cards to my players y
Godmod Other Events Y - (within limits, see above; and no religious conversions of players, please)

And remember... Monks don't cheat. Please.

OOC: I realise my team might present a role-playing challenge. Rest assured that once they start playing they'll play just like any other team (though they might be a bit more inclined to pray after scoring), so I have no problem with you treating the team like any other if you don't want to deal with the Orthodox Christian element.

THE HOLY EMPIRE WC 68 SQUAD

While the nation took a long break between WCs 7 and 25, the Holy Empire is proud to be the only active nation to have participated in WC1.

Buenos dias senors, senoras, y ... otras cosas!

If you participated in WC 67, you may remember that due to a bureaucratic misunderstanding involving a mix-up in filing applications for the NationStates World Cup and the Interdimensional World Cup of Exotic Flora, the Holy Empire was represented by a squad of XI giant human-sized sombrero-wearing Mexican jumping beans.

These were not sentient Mexican jumping beans - merely ordinary, albeit human-sized, jumping beans (the sombreros provide balance and make sure the beans have an identifiable 'up') that moved more or less randomly and unpredictably around the pitch. Any victories were be down to sheer dumb luck, and the random bouncing of the ball in the "right" or "wrong" direction (depending on your perspective).

The goalkeeper jumping bean was physically tied to a rope staked into the ground in the goal to stop him from wandering too far. The deeply frustrated coaching staff would occasionally run around the boundaries of the pitch pushing any stray jumping beans back onto the pitch.

Fortunately, just as the tournament entered the knock-out stages, the Holy Empire's best minds found a solution to the bean problem - equip the beans with steam-powered personal oneirology transformers that could be strapped to each bean, turning them into human footballers for the duration.

This had unforeseen consequences in the second-round match against Audioslavia, including the tragic death of Audioslavian John Kennedy.

But this time the Holy Empire Football Association are absolutely sure that they have the technology right! It's absolutely full-proof!

Or at least no longer lethal....

So..... The Squad

The actual squad are still lost somewhere out in the multiverse, probably visiting horticultural shows.

So the WC68 squad will consist of XI sombrero-wearing Mexican jumping beans who are taking human form for the full 90 minutes of the match thanks to those personal steam-powered oneirology transformers strapped to their backs.

The thing is, the technology's not quite as fool-proof as HEFA are claiming.

While there almost certainly won't be a repeat of the Kennedy incident, one or two of those transformers will likely fail for 30 seconds to a minute each match.

This means that the players will revert back to bean form for that brief period.

OOC: This temporary failure of the equipment will almost certainly be used to explain any unusual / undesirable results.

You may refer to each member of the team as "Mr. Bean".

Relevant slapstick 'hilarity' may or may not result.

Coaches:

The team coach remains World Cup Hall of Fame legend Juan Tzimisces.

The assistant coach is Starblaydi World Cup Hall of Fame legend Simeone Di Bradini.

Kit
The team will wear famous Imperial Gold and Red, as worn by the Holy Empire since WC1 (home left, change/away right)

Image

Ground
Home matches take place in the jewel-encrusted and gold and platinum-domed Imperial Hippodrome.

Style Modifiers / formation
Frosty football is attacking football. The Holy Empire always plays a 3-5-2 formation using overlapping wingers that turns into 3-3-4 on the counterattack.

OOC'ly, for the purposes of scorination, the team uses the maximum attacking style modifier permitted by each cup's hosts.

RP instructions:
Knock yourselves out - creative RP is encouraged.

Please remember that the basic rules for travel to the Archregimancy [see above] also apply to the Holy Empire - you'll need someone to build a portal for you, you can't just fly/walk/drive there. If you want to deal with the malleable reality and non-linear time elements of the Dreamed Realm, and have no prior experience of these, it's probably best to check with me first.[/quote]

Menukten International Soccer Team Roster

Postby Menukten » Wed Mar 26, 2014 1:03 pm

Roster

Team Moniker

The Rainroad.

Coach and Manager: Goodwill Keeps-the-Pipe.

Goodwill Keeps-the-Pipe is the coach and manager of Limmeritch Lacrimic, Menukten's celebrated National Soccer League Champion for three years running. A former striker for the same club, his knowledge of the game is extensive, though limited to the NSL. His total football strategy has catapulted Limmeritch to the top of the NLS and earned him the respect and admiration of the nation as one of the NLS's top coaches.

Goalkeeper:

Visible Fat Bear. 20. Hailing from Menukten's most prestigious soccer club, Limmeritch Lacrimic, Visible Fat Bear is widely known as the National Soccer League's most successful goalkeeper. Fat Bear is noted for his girth which, however, doesn't seem to effect his speed, which he uses to great success in getting to the ball before it enters goal. Fat Bear is the one who initiated proceedings to start a national soccer team, and his enthusiasm for playing internationally was responsible for Coach Keeps-the-Pipe's involvement.

Reserve Goalkeeper

Barry Black Water. 34. Black Water, the goalkeeper for the NSL's Stock Hill, has had a successful career, helping Stock Hill sweep the NSL and win the Champion's Cup for three years in a row in his early twenties. Since, his career has been less prestigious, but solid. He is a dependable goalkeeper, not as quick on his feet as Fat Bear, but more able to judge shots and outwit the opponent's strikers.

Forwards

Urelia Fears-the-Dark. Last year's NSL MVP and top scorer, Fears-the-Dark, along with fellow MC Yardley striker Yaluit Broken-Nose, almost single-handedly swept his club into the top of the League, where Yardley lost the Champion's Gourd to Limmeritch. Fears-the-Dark is known for his swiftness and daring. His scoring average is not the best because he takes a lot of mediocre shots; but what he lacks in quality he makes up in quantity.

Yaluit Broken-Nose. Fears-the-Dark's fellow teammate, Broken-Nose is the technical, inventive counterpart to Fears-the-Dark's juggernaut style. He is an expert ball handler and while not the best in speed he can easily slip by a defender and coordinate with teammates to open up shots or slice a pass into the penalty area to a waiting teammate.

Paul Lame Foot. From the NSL's stock hill, Lamer Foot is a notorious goal poacher, notable for the frequency of his hat-tricks.

Victory Heavy Sands. An unconventional player, Heavy Sands likes to confuse the defense by being versatile in his play, often dropping into deep midfield. He is a forward for the NSL's club Jesterfield.

Orie Talls-the-Day. A winger for Stock Hill, Talls-the-Day is a famous ball hog, being an expert dribbler and often juggling the ball just to show off. His ball handling skills, however, serve him well in his job: Talls-the-Day's fellow teammates have learned to rely on him to put the ball past the defense and line up shots.

Midfielders

Jenny Tall-Tale. One of two women on the team, Tall-Tale plays center midfield and is particularly gifted at stealing the ball from the opposition. She plays for the NSL's Club Crighton.

Wilma Blue Throat. Playing wide midfield for the NSL's Limmeritch Lacrimic, Blue Throat is well versed in feeding the ball to an open striker, creating the sort of plays that have earned her a name as one of the league's best middies. She is the other woman on the Menukten international soccer team.

John Fox. An attacking midfielder, Fox is affectionally called the "Calculator" by his teammates at Limmeritch because of his ability to read the defense's movement and cutting through them with a well placed pass.

Albert Red Hand. Defensive midfielder for MC Yardley, Red Hand loves fried seitan and is a witch doctor. Many of his teammates suspect that he casts wooboo spells on the opposition before every game.

Timothy Silent Deer. Defensive midifielder for Stock Hill, Silent Deer has limitless stamina, a good tracking ability and a sense of where the opposing offense is going to be. His career is checkered by his frequent on the pitch violent and collection of red cards.

Defenders

The Menukten international soccer team has no defenders, defense being provided by middies in a modified total football setup.

Reserves (trained to play any position):

Phillip Black Cheeks

Menukten's sporting kits are unique, primarily because Menukten is a country inhabited by squonks who believe they are so hideous they wrap themselves up in mummy-like garments whenever they go out in public, as you can read here: http://www.nationstates.net/nation=menu ... /id=230569,

Our style modifier is +4

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Choose my goalscorers: Yes
Godmod scoring events: Yes
RP injuries to my players: Yes
Godmod injuries to my players: No
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes
Godmod other events: Yes

NOTA BENE: None of my players are taller than five feet and most average around four feet in height.

Concerning Squonks

Squonks, the inhabitants of Menukten, are intelligent, diminutive creatures rarely standing more than five feet tall. There both noted features are their huge, teary eyes, long snouts, fan-like ears and warty skin. Squonks are so convinced of their ugliness that they hide themselves away and weep all day long. As a result, it is very unusual to find squonks sharing each other's company. This usually only happens during certain mourning rituals and sporting events (which, despite their small stature, they are surprisingly good at).

Squonks used to live in the woods of Eastern Pennsylvania, until they were logged by the humans and settled. Fleeing human civilization, the squonks found help from the Fair Folk and settled on a beautiful, lush island they named Lepakamehele. They have been living there since. Centuries later traders discovered Lepakamehele and kidnapped many of its inhabitants to sell as slaves oversees. These squonks were taken to a country called Quinuic to sweat in the cane sugar and tobacco fields. With the help of Dillah, however, the squonks of Quinuic were able to throw off their oppressors and send them back into their boats, leaving the squonks to settle Menukten as their own

Squonks come in a variety of shapes and forms, one common one illustrated below:

Yesterday saw Menukten inch past bottom ranked Springmont for its first World Cup qualifier win. The team started with two substitutions: Barry Black Water for team captain Visible Fat Bear, and Matthew Hope Sky for Albert Red Hand.

Menukten fans were concerned to learn that team captain Visible Fat Bear was struck down with the same mysterious illness that affected Kandorith goalkeeper Huajian Kanzo the match before. Fat Bear's illness, however, has not dissipated over the night.

"We believe its Red Hand's doing," says coach Keeps-the-Pipe. "We caught him casting a wooboo spell on the Kandoriths last match and told him either to resign or play uncovered. He chose resignation and swiftly disappeared. Now Fat Bear is sick with the same illness that attacked Kanzo and we have every reason to believe that Red Hand is responsible. We believe he means to act revenge on the team, and so we hire a medicine man to guard us from attack."

The medicine man in question, Fat Bear's sakima Dreams-in-Streams, examined the unwell goalkeeper and discovered invisible witch needles imbedded in the man's flesh.

"Very dangerous," he said, "and very potent. They are meant to spread blackness and shadow through the blood, wither the flesh and leak disease throughout the entire body. I can take them out and treat him, but it will take some weeks."

With the team captain incapacitated and under the sakima's care, John Fox led the team into their first win; 4-3 against Springmont.

"Of course we are happy that we won," he said soberly, "but our defense was a mess. Springmont is at the bottom of our group and we should have made a stronger showing against them, but our defense was just porous the entire game and their was nothing we could do to plug it up."

Fox has reorganized Menukten's starting formations, moving his strikers back to the midfield, as well as himself up into the midfield, and pushing the former midfielders back on defense.

"We'll be utilizing the 4-6-0 formation," he explained, "which will make it hard for our rivals' defenders to mark our attackers without pulling out of their positions. This formation requires our front four to be very skilled and coordinated, able to instantly take advantage of any holes left by the opposition defenders, but I believe Fears-the-Dark, Broken-Nose, Lame Foot and myself are up to it, with Heavy Sands and Talls-the-Day supporting us in the center.

Former midfielders Jenny Tall-Tale, Wilma Blue Throat, Timothy Silent Dear and Matthew Sky Hope will be playing as defenders in two person pairs to the right and left of goal.

"Our team is very versatile," says Silent Deer," and we've practiced the 4-6-0 position in training camp extensiely. I believe Fox is making the right call. Our former 0-5-5- formation was too loose and we were letting in two many goals. Hopefully this will tighten things up and confuse the opposition as well."

Image

Initials for players are in lechikan, the squonk alphabet. The new formation consists of Broken Nose at top middle center, Fears-the-Dark at top middle right, Lame Foot at top middle left, Fox at middle center, Talls-the-Day at middle center right, Heavy Sands at middle center left, Sky Hope at defensive center right, Tall-Tale at defensive right, Silent Deer at defensive center left and Blue throat at defensive left.

The Astograth National Football Team

Style: +1
Wiki article
Image

Manager - Image Edorta Urrustoy
Edorta Urrustoy, the first Astograthian footballing superstar, has come full circle. In 3 years, the last of his career, he bloomed at Pazhujebi club Juvapanam, won 50 caps and entrenched himself forever in the nation's collective imagination, his position as a classic defensive midfielder being rendered tribute by a number of Olibondeka's most talented players. Working as a pundit after retirement, a bizarre twist of fate led to him becoming legendary Yaforian manager Shaan Magerin's right-hand man at the Bleak Rock national team, and from there he was offered a job at boyhood club Urbizania Wanderers. The rest is history, as they say, having taken them to become the first Astograthian club to lift the UICA Champions' Club.

Now? Now he has taken Astograth to a Copa Rushmori final and qualified them to their first World Cup after a catastrophic run of four failures; that they dropped out in their worst showing ever, with only a single point and no goals to show for their efforts, is deeply disappointing but something they have taken lessons from. Intending to continue surprising, Urrustoy's national team sides tend to feature no defensive midfielders and a forward approach, with two strikers spearheading an attack at opposites with the more back-minded midfield he used at Urbizania Wanderers. He has also made it a policy to bring in a number of young prospects and other uncapped outsiders, with demanding criteria guiding his selection and nobody's seniority securing them a place. Many have criticised he is biased towards the younger players, but who said you can't win anything with kids?

Starting XI:

#1 - GK – Zuriko Eliz - Age 28 - Image Sporting Iturributa - 12 caps, 14 goals conceded, 4 clean sheets
Zuriko Eliz has steadily won himself recognition with his performances with the junior national teams and with Ximun Orieta FC, before moving to the surprising Oyardo FC. Routinely considered third-choice by Urrustoy, his most recent season with Iturributan giants Sporting Iturributa has allowed Eliz to shine bright and finally earn himself a starting spot on Olibondeka, being bred to replace the generation of Galayarde and Logegaray.

#3 - LB - Ekain Ziaurriz - Age 28 - Image FC1. Surtsey Island Gulls – 49 caps
Ever so quietly, Ekain Ziaurriz shined at Oyardo FC and went on to win the league with Echegoyan FC, drawing the attention of the stupendously surprising Surtsey. After being repeatedly overlooked he has now finally made himself a name with Olibondeka, quickly becoming one of the most consistent players on the squad. He can humbly hold his own against the best wingers in the game, and his in-swinging corner kicks are to be feared - which Urrustoy plans on exploiting to the fullest.

#4 - CB - Yokin Arizmande (C) - Age 33 – Image Urbizania Wanderers - 148 caps, 5 goals
A product of the Royal Vosaroni Antenelli youth academy in Erathore, Arizmande then spent several successful years at Niccostrato, in keeping with the Erathi custom of teenaged players. Having returned to his homeland, he has solidified himself as one of the leading defenders in the First Division and the national team. When at his best, his play is exquisite, blending physical presence with speed, tactical awareness and fine technical skills - all of which are pushed to the limit by the demanding Urrustoy. Already the fifth all-time most capped Astograthian and a living legend, he has been handed the responsibility of leading Astograth to their seventh World Cup finals.

#2 - CB - Anartz Agirrebenia - Age 30 - Image Royal Rumiatzi - 68 caps
Having previously been used to cover as sweeper for Arizmande, Agirrebenia is a major player for Royal Rumaitzi and the national team. Operating at the heart of defense for the ultra-defensive Blue Mountain Range since the youth teams, he is especially bred for accomplishing this very role at the highest level. He has the vision, the calm and the technique to carry out the job; on a good day, he and Arizmande are simply impenetrable.

#6 - RB – Kimetz Obonaga - Age 23 - Image Arka Snezhnaya - 41 caps
At a young age, Obonaga has quickly become an Olibondeka regular with a very bright future ahead. Smart, quick and a good passer, he also has the ability to attack down the right flank, though isn't expected to be employed in that capacity. Impressing with humble outfit Oyardo FC, Obonaga has continued to perform at a top level at Mytanar side Arka Snezhnaya, in one of the most demanding leagues in the multiverse.

#11 - LM - Andoni Bidigain - Age 20 - Image 1896 Ebor - 7 caps, 1 goal
Having dazzled Mytannion at Port Jarko, Bidigain went to 1896 Ebor and promptly won the UICA Champions' Cup twice in a row - making him the only Astograthian to have won the multiverse's most prestigious club competition more than once. Fired into the starting lineup of Olibondeka, Bidigain has failed to disappoint, playing every match and becoming a vital component of the team's run to the Copa Rushmori final. Huge expectation bears down on him, but he shows no sign of falling short.

#21 - CM – Ostadar Arambilet - Age 20 - Image Avenida Leal – 19 caps, 1 goal
Wearing the same number 21 shirt as his journeyman forward father Gaur Arambilet, now manager of Royal Rumiatzi, Ostadar was shipped away from the crowded capital club to grow in the Farf league - and exceeded all expectations, earning himself a place in the starting lineup, the Young Player of the Season award and a call-up to Olibondeka. With another Young Player award under his belt and being one of the better Astograthian players at World Cup 67, the fans won't stop going on about how he is the next Big Thing.

#7 - RM - Gaitzka Ogara - Age 24 - Image Astograth University - 54 caps, 9 goals
One of the First Division's most exciting young players, Astograth University's unassuming Gaitzka Ogara is fast and skilled when dribbling and shooting, his unpredictability earning him plaudits and being an important reason for lifting Astograth University from the wilderness to the latest First Division league title. With quick feet and a talent for the feint, he is a very credible goal threat down the right wing.

#8 - AM – Luar Dardan - Age 23 - Image SK Franz Josef City – 38 caps, 12 goals
Discarded by Edorta Urrustoy's Urbizania Wanderers in an uncharacteristic bout of short-sightedness, Dardan went on to set the Euran league on fire with his mazing runs, through-balls and eye for goal. With a very offensive style, he reaped all manner of awards and big-money transfers, the latest from Euran giants Directus to Polarian giants SK Franz Josef City, where Astograthian players have a rich history. With a formidable goal ratio and now the hallowed number 8 shirt, Dardan should be one to keep everyone talking.

#10 - CF - Ibai Kiriano - Age 26 - Image Atletik Thessia - 81 caps, 43 goals
One of previous manager Handel's few successes, Kiriano has exploded onto the international scene, winning over the hearts and minds of the Astograthian public. Short, barrel-chested and not very smart... but very fast, very skilled in the dribble and extremely deadly! Won it all with Ituraitz FC and now seeking new challenges in the Mytanar league, where he was the latest top scorer, Kiriano is currently the fourth all-time top scorer for Olibondeka and looks well on track to breaking Ormache and Atristain's records - Sarlange's 89 will take some doing, but at 26 years old he's just getting started.

#9 - CF - Oskarbi Churin - Age 24 - Image FC1. Surtsey Island Gulls - 51 caps, 20 goals
After surprising everybody with prolific showings in the second tier, barely aged 17, Churin repeated his act in the First Division with Athletic Club Rumiatzi - then the Polarian league came calling and he has played an important role in Surtsey's two titles. Fast and physical, his greatest assets are his incredible positioning - expertly beating all but the toughest offside traps - and his unflinching drive once he sets his eyes on goal. Though less mobile than the nimble Kiriano, he brings back the Ormache legacy of scoring from the unlikeliest of places, with impeccable technique.

Substitutes:

#13 - GK – Alarabi Galayarde - Age 33 - Image Royal Rumiatzi – 34 caps, 39 goals conceded, 11 clean sheets
Royal Rumiatzi's number 1 has been widely regarded as the best Astograthian keeper in the First Division for many years now, with experience across both Rumiatzi and the more humble Athletic Club Olarria. He has performed adequately in the last few World Cup runs under Urrustoy, but been relegated to second-choice in an attempt to give Eliz more playing time.

#23 - GK – Apal Barrandegi - Age 29 - Image Oyardo FC – Uncapped
Raised at Ituraitz FC, notorious for its quality goalkeepers, Barrandegi has sought and found better luck at Oyardo, where he has replaced Zuriko Eliz in a more than satisfactory fashion. He is, however, untested at the highest level and very unlikely to be given playing time given he lags well behind both Eliz and Galayarde, but will no doubt learn from this call-up experience.

#12 - LB – Baladi Berhongaray - Age 27 – Image Ungalb Parkatsee - 10 caps
Chosen the best left-back of the last First Division season as well as Signing of the Season at Gesterlake FC, this lad caught Louis Vaudrail's while playing for Royal Ibarbe and immediately became one of the artificiers of the team's hard-fought campaign for fifth place and a Globe Cup spot. Quickly transferred to Earent's Ungalb Parkatsee, whom he played a key role in lifting to new heights, Berhongaray can be a real threat down the left wing and is a valuable alternative to Ziaurriz.

#2 - CB - Arnas Belamendia - Age 24 - Image Royal Rumiatzi - 3 caps
Raised at Royal Rumiatzi and honed by a lengthy loan spell at Nestingham FC of Falcus, there are whispers about Knights' Stadium that Belamendia might just be the next Silban Galindo - every bit as tall, strong and clever as the legendary captain, snd a similar mop of black hair to go with it. He has done well at the Knights alongside Agirrebenia, and is slowly being projected as a future rock of the Astograthian defense.

#16 - CB – Etor Yauregialzo - Age 27 – Image Northbrook Diamonds FK - 27 caps
Raised at the defensively renowned Blue Mountain Range, Yauregialzo stood out enough for Ituraitz FC to lay down the money and bring him over to incorporate into their most dominant squad ever, and recently packed off to strong Polarian side Northbrook Diamonds. Smart and quick on his feet, qualities valued by the BMR academy, he is reliable and very eager to prove himself with the national team.

#19 - RB – Churio Sesma - Age 25 - Image Raynor City United - 21 caps
Already with several call-ups by Urrustoy, Sesma caught the eye of many before playing a prominent part in taking humble Gesterlake to their record-highest fifth place in the First Division, from whence he was whisked away to the fearsome Raynor City United. His runs up the wing, especially the off-the-ball movement that allows him to play wonderful one-twos and advance the ball into a very advantageous position, are qualities that may add an interesting variable in case some spice is needed to surprise the opposition.

#14 - LM - Artzeiz Kuartango - Age 25 - Image Burgess FC - 27 caps, 1 goal
Kuartango was an unexpected call-up of Urrustoy's, due to being a player for East Railway, but he has transferred his great football from club to national team and even earned himself a transfer to The Inevitable Syndicate's most prestigious club. Though not particularly fast, his talent for the cross sets him apart from Benitzaizin and makes him particularly valuable in matches where a high ball to the forwards is the only way to get it into the net.

#22 - CM – Aurre Ilarri - Age 29 - Image Arka Snezhnaya – 3 caps
With a lengthy career as a journeyman midfielder in the First Division, his standout performances with Astograth University won him a transfer to the strong Mytanar side Arka Snezhnaya, and with Ekhi Subies out of form he has been given his first call-up to the national team by Urrustoy. More of a defensive midfielder than a central one, the manager hopes to employ him in situations where a deeper presence is required, especially against talented attacking sides.

#15 - RM - Agozti Ibarran - Age 23 - Image Dwile Warriors - 14 caps
Though devilishly fast - one of the main reasons for his inclusion in the squad - Ibarran is not a great scorer but a great assister, tending to shoot straight at the keeper but capable of taking the ball to the byline and expertly laying it on for someone to smash into the net. Has a lot to learn still, but gaining that sort of experience so he'll be a better player tomorrow is Urrustoy's full intention - and top football with one of the best clubs in Apox has only encouraged his growth.

#20 - AM - Laurin Mankisidor - Age 23 - Image Echegoyan FC – 3 caps
When it comes to young Astograthian players, Mankisidor has been the talk of the First Division for years now, but unable to break into the national team with both Bakaikoa and Dardan in the same position. Originally brought up at Royal Rumiatzi, he was subject to a big-money transfer to Echegoyan while still a teenager, and has become one of the club's pillars. He can play instead of or alongside Dardan, his presence more focussed on assisting and being the team's pivot point than on scoring himself.

#18 - CF – Bayarte Pagagartundua - Age 24 - Image La Nueva Avenida – 27 caps, 9 goals
This lad came out of nowhere (or, well, Ximun Orieta FC) to replace Federico Ferreyra at Gortz United and promptly outscored everyone else in the First Division, showing remarkable prowess at scoring in any way possible. In that regard he has been likened to the legendary Dei Ormache - though Ormache never had Pagagartundua's height or physical fitness. During World Cup 66 qualifying he broke through as a highly dependable forward for the national team, though competition is fierce. Turned down Royal Rumiatzi to transfer from Gortz United to Farf club La Nueva Avenida, where he has continued to impress, running out league champions.

#17 - CF – Azubeli Garat - Age 24 - Image Astograth University – 2 caps
Last called up for Copa Rushmori XV, Garat has earned himself an important starting spot at league champions Astograth University, prompting a return to Urrustoy's call-up. Though last in the pecking order, Garat is not very technically gifted - but he is deadly when given scoring chances, especially on the counter-attack, which could make him just what Olibondeka need to break through when under pressure.

Charruterran Roster for World Cup 68

Manager: Image Loreen Adams (50 Years Old) Female
Style: +2

Charruterra is now facing the upbringing of a whole new generation of bright (in the loosest sense of the word) footballers, having recently won the Sub-17 in Alitaba. Most of the players that were part of that squad have managed to break through, like Júrja Mahí, Ijí Rungajé (the best player of that tournament), Royán Raham, Campusano Doimalnaeje and Aísahaldu Arahayán, who are even starters now. The team is still very attacking, but has retreated a bit from kamikaze attacking to pretty attacking. Canamazán Fajú and Adeltú Cohújaan will still lead the team, as they're among the most talented players Charruterra has to offer to the world. Needless to say that the Charruterrans will actually have some pressure to perform well now that they've managed to reach the semifinals of the Copa Rushmori. Monsió Darmafá, the striker that is tired of scoring for Pacahocaf in the Charruterran league, is the player the most likely to score for the Charruterrans. As for the manager, the Asociación accidentally hired her last Copa Rushmori. Her country's been a clusterfuck as of late.

Bit late but hey
Official Squad for Zwannswijik's national team

James Lucas
Svenn Blann
Playing style +3
Goalkeepers
Marcus Helten,Sundaal Paradise FC,28 yrs old. Most respected keeper in the league, likened to a rock in goal
Arjen Zeusen,Yoltan III AFC,19 yrs old. Up and coming prodigy, expected to become as good as Helten
Kirk van Vartheimer, Sundaal Sunrise, 24 yrs old. Zwannswijik's 3rd keeper, regarded as a bit anonymous but solid
Defenders
Alex Hexel,Modulaar City,33 yrs old. Very, very solid, and incredibly consistent.
Marteen Hexel,Modulaar City,24 yrs old. Younger brother to Alex, became nation's top defender aged just 19
Bruno da Silva,Sundaal Jackals,21 yrs old . Originating from Brazil, he holds Zwannswijikan nationality. He is a world renowned skillster
Jonathon Brunien,Vazaar Venom,25 yrs old. Can often launch into tackles, but holds line well
Aleex Ejia,Vazaar Hornets,22 yrs old. Not the greatest, but has pace in spades.
Michael Xeelovoolen,Yoltan III,24 yrs old. Solid wing back, crosses in a lot
Burundo Lolzeen, Arnjeheim,28 yrs old. Unproven on the world stage, and not so great on the domestic side of things
Karando Lennon, Vazaar Venom, 31 yrs old. Good to have on reserve, but poor stamina lets him down
Klaas van der Harlem,Sundaal Sunrise,27 yrs old. Injury prone, and used mostly as a super sub
Michael Sethenfeld,Holmeer Hijackers,18 yrs old. Rising star, but unproven
Midfielders
Nico Olter,Vazaar Venom,23 yrs old. Broke onto international scene with a bang last year, with lots of pace, and a similar playing style to Mesut Özil.
Otto van Saar,Arnjeheim,30 yrs old. A solid CDM, liked by all back home.

Sulu Andeleezer,Mazwik,29 yrs old. Left Zwannswijik for Tryganizstan in '04 and hasn't returned

Idesich Vera,Arsenal FC,21 yrs old. Made the switch from LB to LM and hasn't looked back. Pacey, skillful and a deadly eye for goal.
Jack Aiston,Unattached,19 yrs old,Born in the UK, trained at Chelsea this tough young midfielder is looking for a club. Powerful tackler, poor shooting
Holger Hertger,Holmeer Hijackers,28 yrs old. Used as a super sub, pushed out of team by Brygon.
Bas Joosten,Sundaal Sunrise,20 yrs old. Became youngest ever international goalscorer for his country aged just 16 yrs and 23 days. Known for lethal left foot.
Strikers
Anton Ekerez,Corfu Maximus,20 yrs old. Plays in Greece, has scored 188 goals already for country.
Eric Zwannswijik,Santa Milios,34 yrs old. Final international tournament, fan favourite with a very coincidental name.
James Molek,Holmeer Hijackers,22 yrs old. A bench regular, hot favourite to replace old Eric.
Ludovic Chelybinsk,N/A,26 yrs old. Tryganizstani national, who escaped civil war and was granted permission to play for us in this 1 tournament.
Dirk IJnolden,Unattached,25 yrs old. Seen as party animal by some, a slob by everyone else. Only here because his Dad runs the Zwannswijikan FA.

Notes

This is the same team as the Republican National Team. The players on this team would not necessarily be considered the best players in the FFR. Republican athletes tend to have massive egos and they aren't interested in playing for their country. This team was the idea of Rule Theriault, a failed former manager who had led a team that was expected to contend for the league title to relegation. Theriault failed as manager at Petrograd United because the veteran players on that team, with their giant egos, did not respect their manager or his approach to the game. Theriault clashed with players because he emphasizes a team-first style of play and an intense practice schedule. To rebuild his reputation, he decided to work with younger players that would take instruction and was able to get a number of talented young players to join his National Team, even if most of the country's top prospects turned him down. In the years since, Theriault has chosen to stick with his core of players on his National Team. In the past, he even entered the team in the Acedonian Premier League, a UICA-affiliated league, for a season, but he has since turned Republica FC, his APL team, into a separate organization under separate management, with Theriault in charge of personnel decisions. The Republicans are a dominant presence in U-21 soccer, where they finished 2nd, 1st and 3rd (respectively) at DBCs 27 through 29, but this is their first World Cup and they have a total of 1 win in knockout rounds of past WCC events.

Controversy has always followed this team around, ever since they debuted at DBC 27. Back then, the main source of information on the team was a controversial journalist named Nova Hellstrom whose match reports drew criticism throughout the multiverse for their alleged inaccuracy and bias. Then, in the midst of a Consul election, the Federation Government decided to bid for the Cup of Harmony. Venicio Piazza would be elected Consul on the strength of his opposition to that decision. The Cup of Harmony in the Free Republics saw Nova Hellstrom and Rule Theriault allegedly conspire to arrest a journalist from Felix, who had been critical of Nova's reporting, on trumped up charges of violating some antiquated law in the socially conservative Republic of Jolarus. This set the stage for the following year's controversy, which saw Republican captain Kyle Bolton accused of rape by a girlfriend of a Felixian player. This led to a very serious international incident involving several nations and nearly to a major war, before Consul Piazza made a deal with the President of Felix, whose administration had collapsed as a consequence of the situation. Consul Piazza soon discovered that the actual rapist had been Koby Theodore, another striker on the Republican National Team who looks fairly similar to Bolton, and soon Theodore was sent off to Saintland to attend a reform school. However, a secret deal involving Saintland's Prince Andreas and Rule Theriault of the Free Republics arranged for Theriault to actually attend a boarding school and receive special soccer training from the Sanctii captain himself. This deal also led to the Free Republics bidding with Legalese for World Cup 68.

World Cup 68 qualifying proved to be controversial, as several individuals accused the Republican organizers of bias in seeding and in the appointment of officials. Those fires were stoked by a controversial article by Nova Hellstrom criticizing those who have become complacent and feel that qualification for the World Cup is a given, whether they take qualifying seriously or not. Unsurprisingly, this angered many and kind of proved Nova's point for her. Another controversy during World Cup 68 qualifying was caused by the new King of Saintland, Petrus XX. King Petrus had some choice criticisms of Republican culture and Republican laws, especially regarding the safety of women in the Free Republics. This offended many Republicans and gave Rule Theriault the opening he needed to intimidate the Sanctii into allowing Koby Theodore to return to the Republican National Team, for this World Cup.

Theriault elected to include every single player in his National Team system on the World Cup 68 roster, as he wanted to give them the experience of being in a World Cup. Most of the players on the roster are not going to see any actual playing time in this World Cup, but they will be at the World Cup, as part of the roster, and will have every opportunity to gain experience. The primary goalscorers on the Republican National Team are Bolton, Pozenel and Theodore. All 3 of them are exceptional strikers. Their main weakness is in defense where several starters are somewhat shaky, but Marius Christofferson's skills as a goalkeeper make up for that, at least somewhat. Generally, the Republican midfielders are nothing special, which reduces the number of goal scoring opportunities for their great strikers.

Osarius Squad for World Cup 68

Team: Osarius National Football Team (aka "The Firebirds")
Style modifier: +1.5 (counter/possession-based attacking)

Manager: Jermain Lewis (62 years old)
Assistant Manager: Elissa Barca-Carthy (it's impolite to ask a lady's age)
Captain: Sergio Estevez
Vice-captain: Ezio Grassi
3rd captain: Zachariah Morgan

Home stadium: Mount Crown Stadium, Burningham (cap. 98,000 all seated)
The Firebirds' home stadium is built at the foot of the imposing Mount Crown, on the outskirts of the capital city, Burningham. Fans are known for their extremely vocal support, and the Osarian national stadium has been described as a difficult place to play. The stats support this notion, as Osarius are undefeated, and have not failed to find the net there under Jermain Lewis. The most vociferous home fans are seated in a kop-esque stand built into the mountainside, with the huge, rocky face behind them adding to the intimidation. The pitch itself is usually made shorter, but wider than most, catering to the short midfield passing game of the Firebirds, and their frequent use of width. Long-ball teams will find it difficult to find space behind the defence, but teams making liberal use of wingers will likely flourish.

There are also two "special" kits, one is white with black and red flames on the front left, and the other is mostly gold (the traditional alternate kit colours) with a red and black bar across the middle, if neither of these is suitable. I'll make these eventually.

My RP Permissions are pretty chill to be honest.
Pretty much anything goes, I only ask that you let me decide the severity of any injuries you decide to RP for me, please.
Send my players off if you must -- if its a player I really didn't wanna lose for the next game, I'll RP an appeal or something.
Oh and at the risk of sounding a bit "RAWR" ... do not kill any of my players or coaching staff (unless I say go ahead via TG).
Killing fans is okay though. Go nuts with that if you like.

Firstly, the NSWiki page is no longer accessible... I'll see about fixing that as soon as possible. Sorry!

It's important to note that the team itself generally doesn't consciously defend. They press high up the pitch though and try to win the ball back as quickly as possible, sometimes over-committing, and leaving themselves vulnerable to a swift counterattack. Generally pacy defenders help to alleviate this problem somewhat.

They will also slow down when ahead later in the game, but only so they don't unnecessarily provide opportunities to lose possession and/or concede. This doesn't mean they wont take the opportunity to score if it presents itself, though...

The front line of three is often very flexible, with all three capable of playing in any of the front three roles at any given time. Most of the time, the centre forward/striker will remain the focal point of the team's central attacking, though.

If there is an attacking midfielder on the pitch, they will likely operate as a "false ten" in tandem with a forward dropping deep (like a "false nine"). Effectively they will be most likely to get onto the end of passes in the final third, and thus score goals. Unless the forward is Ezio Grassi. Because he is Ezio "Goalmachine" Grassi.

On the occasions no specifically named attacking midfielder is used, typically it is an indicator that the manager expects a tighter battle for possession in the midfield zone. In these situations, expect Estevez to push forward more often, while the third midfielder is a more defensively-focused option.

The fullbacks typically overlap a lot -- considering how often the wingers change sides and become "inverted" (i.e. cutting inside the defender on their stronger foot, rather than pulling wide) -- and seem to operate almost as advanced as wingbacks (or even midfielders against considerably weaker teams) a lot of the time, making the system a sort of like a 3-4-3 when Osarius attack, due to Caporaso (usually) dropping deeper to counter against a potential playmaker "in the hole" for the opposition.

Set piece preferences (in order):
Corner kick takers: Whichever wingers/wide forwards are on the pitch
Penalty takers: Toby Drummond, Sergio Estevez, Ezio Grassi ... then just put forwards and midfielders before defenders for shootouts etc.
Free kick takers: Sergio Estevez, Toby Drummond or Ezio Grassi
Long free kicks: A centre back (usually Riviello), or the goalkeeper (only really for offsides, really)

You don't have to stick to all of that, though. It just fits in better with the way I intend to RP my team (when I can).

Something that is important to know is that football isnt the number on sport in Osarius. Its second, to GraviBall, though the gap is closing.

Footballers in Osarius are loved if they make tough tackles, because the combative nature of the game is what the majority of fans like most. Very passionate, are Osarian fans, you see. Sooo... basically, if you're not scoring goals or making crunching tackles, the fans generally aren't impressed. That goes for opponents too... Osarian fans always appreciate a good tackle, so they will even applaud opposition players at times (although they will boo their goals, obvs).

The complicated tactical systems used by modern Osarian teams are well-understood by the fans, and a growing football blogging community within Osarius often has in-depth tactical discussion, and regularly posters show great insight. This is thought to be the result of a general increase in coaching quality throughout the nation, which has also contributed heavily to the national team's increased degree of success in recent years.

From time to time I'll make reference to the area a player is from, and when I do, I will try to add an OOC note to explain what it means, because different regions of Osarius have almost entirely different cultures. For example, Tubrissian people's habits and sayings are heavily based on Phoenician/Carthaginian culture and religious beliefs; Islanders -- those from Kyoshiku/Kholanaras Island in the south-west -- have a warrior-centric culture and are quite insular; many Ikutursans worship a malevolent, erisian, serpent deity... and so on.

Manager: Jermain Lewis
The newly inducted Hall of Famer holds an enviable record as Osarius manager, presiding over a win ratio of approximately two-thirds, and not losing a single game at Mount Crown Stadium. The first Osarius manager to win a trophy. The man who was in charge when the Firebirds beat the reigning world champions. Jermain Lewis is in the process of cementing his already formidable legend status, but he is still not satisfied. The formidable sexagenarian still possesses the same insatiable drive for success he had as a player, constantly demanding more from his players. In his reign, they have failed to score just five times, a figure most managers would be satisfied with. Not Jermain Lewis. He demands that his team pass the ball forward (or at least not backward) as much as possible, in line with his philosophy of constant forward motion. Many hope that this "constant forward motion" will propel him -- and the Firebirds -- toward the crowning achievement of any footballer's career; World Cup glory.

Assistant Manager: Elissa Barca-Carthy
Perhaps it is their shared belief in tough love, or their common "addiction to winning", but the acerbic Ms. Barca-Carthy and the fiery Mr. Lewis are rarely not on the same page in their management of the national team. Roughly a third of the Firebirds' games under their stewardship have ended in a clean sheet for the Osarians -- a startlingly large figure, given Lewis devotion to his mentor's brand of attacking football -- and this can largely be attributed to Elissa Barca-Carthy's disciplinarian sessions on defensive shape and positioning. It is her tactical flexibility that has allowed Lewis to build on his mentor's system in a way di Corradi could not. While Lewis gets all the plaudits, Barca-Carthy has been silently engineering much of the team's success.

Coaches: Georgina Carsley, Lorenzo Ruiz, Serenity Lewis, Jayson Dhanda, Ayanna Barca-Carthy

Carsley is the team's primary defensive coach, and well-known for her propensity for well-timed, crunching tackles during her playing days. While she and the gaffer have a good working relationship, she is far closer to Ms. Barca-Carthy, which can sometimes cause a bit of friction among the backroom staff. Carsley is devoted, however, to bettering the team in any way, and has had a positive impact on even attacking players' ability to win the ball. This, combined with the Firebirds' typically high pressure game, leads to more chances in the final third.

Ruiz and Dhanda, along with Ayanna Barca-Carthy and Serenity Lewis -- the assistant manager and manager's daughters respectively -- all played central midfield during their acclaimed professional careers, and all were important parts of the offensive phase for their respective national squads and club sides.

Of the four, Lorenzo Ruiz is the most defensive minded, often attacking from deep with long penetrative runs to shoot with a venomous left foot. His technical ability is held in extremely high regard even now, with Roque Acosta revealing that Ruiz can still trap a ball better than any member of the current squad. The former Utica midfielder's personal preference for trapping a high ball and bringing it forward calmly has rubbed off on the defenders in the squad, unfortunately, they are not quite as proficient at it as he was. Or still is, if Acosta is to be believed.

Dhanda's presence exemplifies Lewis' value of hard work. Another former Utica man, Dhanda led the Tubrissians for more than a decade, adding graft to the substantial amount of guile possessed by the team's youngsters and academy graduates. Not one of Dhanda's teammates throughout his lengthy career has ever contradicted the oft-repeated anecdote, explaining that the Tubrissian's reputation for being "the hardest working player ever" is unlikely to be much of an overstatement. This insatiable drive is something the gaffer had stressed should be present in all of his players, and those who fall short of the lofty expectations set by both Lewis and Dhanda will often find themselves languishing on the bench more often than not.

The other two coaches -- arguably the two best Osarian midfielders of a generation, though they seldom appeared on the same pitch -- operate much like their soon-to-be hall of fame parents, in that they complement each other perfectly. Serenity Lewis' blood and thunder, aggressive mentality is tempered well by Ayanna Barca-Carthy's calm, collected demeanour. The two wield such a great deal of influence in the dressing room and on the training pitch, they command one hundred percent focus in their sessions, passing on their vast wealth of experience and knowledge to the current squad.

Specialist Coaches: Lana Schroeder (goalkeeping), Claudio Traga (fitness)
Traga's constantly evolving fitness plans are immensely popular within Osarius -- it is estimated that 50% of all gym-goers or fitspos in the country follow one of them -- and his reputation is well-earned. His latest method, "mental fitness training", combines his vast knowledge of physical fitness with principles that he has proven -- to some extent -- to assist in the mental aspect of the game. Schroeder's extensive knowledge of the goalkeeper position, has been well utilised by Jermain Lewis. It's not easy to step up and replace probably the best goalkeeping coach in the country since the legendary Enzo Corradini. Particularly not when you're a woman in a sport dominated by men. Schroeder has had no such trouble, however. Her expertise has commanded respect and attention from the most promising custodians Osarius has to offer, and she no doubt seeks to help them become legends in their own right.

Medical Staff: Dr. Clara Cormega (physiotherapist), Dr. Vite Karusiki (team doctor)
Dr. Cormega has quickly formed a strong rapport with key members of the squad, likely due to her sometimes unorthodox, but always effective methods. After having she has spent the better part of the past decade learning from her predecessor and completing her PhD last autumn, Dr. Cormega has combined her knowledge and experience with that of her husband -- Grasshoppers Turic manager Roberto -- to play a significant role in the minimising of injury within the Osarius camp. In a similar vein, Dr. Karusiki's openness to new ideas and strong familiarity with athletic injuries have proven invaluable traits. The two have a strong working relationship, and having both graduated from Utica University, they share something of a bond. Dr. Karusiki's expertise appear to extend beyond the typical medical doctor's remit, however, as he has taken on something of a counselling role; much like his predecessor.

The Squad

As is customary, Jermain Lewis has named a "pool" of players from which he will select each matchday squad. Higher numbers correspond to players less likely to appear in a given match. In the case that Osarius qualify for the World Cup finals, this pool will be whittled down to the customary twenty-three players, with other remaining on standby.
