Vulshainian Olympic News Coverage: Winter Olympic Games IX
Vulshainian Athletes Give Their Say
Bonjour everyone! This is Yermolai Vadimaron, reporting live from Arçon in Saugeais, where this year's Winter Olympics are taking place, for Vulshainian Confederate News and Media Network (VCNMN)'s Winter Olympic Games IX Coverage.
With all of the talks and responses by spectators, doctors, politicians, and Olympic officials, I thought it was time to hear what the athletes had to say.
When I interviewed Xeina Geraliat, who won the gold medal in Women's slopestyle Snowboarding, she told me, "Well, I know today is the last day of the Olympics, but overall, I think we did pretty good. I guess we just focused on winning and not enough on having fun. Besides, we wouldn't have signed up to take part in the Olympics if we didn't want to have fun right?"
I next interviewed Alania Reinhilde, who along with her sister were expected to win a number of medals in skiing, but despite their best efforts, didn't win a single medal. Alania had to be rushed to the emergency room after almost collapsing in the Quarterfinals of the Women's Ski cross Freestyle skiing event yesterday. "I'll admit, I might have pushed myself too far. I mean it could have been worse. When you're an Olympic athlete, you get a lot of pressure and stress dumped on you, and you have a lot of people you don't want to let down. We're not robots...well, I know there are robots who take part in the Olympics too, but even they get stressed out too. What I'm saying is that the Olympics weren't meant so you could win a piece of gold, silver, or bronze, they were meant to bring people closer together. You hear a lot on the news about crimes, wars, and conflicts because people can't get along or they disagree on who's right and other things like that. The Olympics were designed so we could have fun and learn more about other cultures and countries. It's like the old saying goes, 'You never stop learning.' And believe me, I've learned a lot about myself and my limits in this year's Winter Olympic Games."
I interviewed other athletes as well. Tekla Angelina, the young vulpine vixen skier who came in sixth in the Women's Slalom Alpine Skiing finals, had this to say, "We know that people are worried about us, and that's cool, but we have to push ourselves. I know people think that by redesigning the training programs, we'll do better. A majority of us athletes don't think that's the case. We just have to refocus our efforts and train harder."
Aleksei Yulian Vyacheslav, who won the bronze in the Men's Parallel Giant Slalom Snowboarding finals, said that redesigning the training programs might be a good idea. "The current training programs are great, but a little upgrade never hurts right? I know that people thought we would do great this year, and personally, I think we did just that. You can't win them all, and even I though I only won a bronze medal, I'm still proud of my accomplishments and who knows, maybe next year, I'll score a silver. Yeah, yeah, I know that some athletes will say that the gold is better, but my philosophy is to take one step at a time. You can't just rush yourself. Maybe that's what our problem was: we rushed ourselves this year, and that caused us to struggle. Now, I'm not saying that we screwed up. Heck, we did a great job out there. I'm just saying that there's always room for improvement."
Pretty much, all of the athletes agreed that even if they don't win any medals on the last day of this year's Winter Olympics, they actually don't care. Like Alania's sister, Rebekka, told me, "If we win a medal today, that's great! If we don't, that's okay. We need to have fun and have a great time. And there's always next year, and we still have the Summer Olympics to look forward too. I know that my sister and I and the rest of my fellow Vulshainian athletes are going to out there today and have fun!"
And I know that I have enjoyed being here and speaking with our athletes as they have endured and persisted throughout all of the events this year. I wish them great luck and to keep on reaching for their dreams.
