Barunia welcomes the world to the Inaugural ODI Challenge Cup

Welcome to the first One Day International Challenge. Nine teams from around the world will be competing for honour and glory across the length and breadth of our fine country. On behalf of the Barunian Cricket Federation, I welcome all players, coaches, officials and spectators to Barunia, and declare the tournament open. Good luck to you all.
-John Brachan, President of the BCF

All teams should post a roster, detailing the players in your squad. Please be sure to indicate your captain and wicket-keeper, as these are important positions in cricket. Also, a reminder to all teams that there only eleven players on a team, and bowlers should also be listed in the batting line-up (this mistake was made several times in the recent T20 World Cup). Rosters that are incorrect will accrue only half the allocated bonus for rosters. Teams may post a style modifier from -5 to +5.

Schedule
The format will be slightly unconventional, in that it will be a single group stage of 1 group of 9, with top 4 teams going through to semi-finals. Schedule has been spoilered for convenience.

Socialist Federation of Barunia: National Information
Barunia is a nation made up several large islands and a northern island chain. The nation is divided into four different states, with the northern islands a federal territory. Players and visitors from participating nations will be able to experience the diversity of all four states, as games will be played across the country.
Barunia has an excellent public transport system, and travel between Porthaven and Newland can be done by bus or train. Travel to Tildos can be done by ferry or via train through the Strait tunnel. Public transport to Marion and the Northern Islands is only available by ferry.

State and City Information for visiting teams

Porthaven, Porthaven State
The City of Porthaven is Barunia's national capital, and is also the entry point for most international visitors via Haven City International Airport. Porthaven is the most cosmopolitan of Barunia's cities, and is recognised as a city of culture. Porthaven Cricket Ground is located in the heart of the city.

Porthaven Cricket Ground
End names: Federation end, Members end
The PCG has undergone extensive works of late, and the result is more seats and a new scoreboard for the fans, and for the players a new boundary and pitch. The original boundary was almost square, but the new one is more regulation shape, although it still has flat edges. The pitch has always produced bounce, but this new drop-in pitch is softer and should provide a more balanced feel for both pace and spin bowlers.

Newland, West Barunia
West Barunia shares the only state land border in the country with Porthaven to the east. West Barunia is a large state, but the state capital of Newland is located on the north coast. Much of Newland was destroyed in the civil war, but the cricket ground in the outer suburbs survived.

Newland Cricket Club Ground
End names: Pinkerton end, Loch St end
The NCC is the oldest cricket club in Barunia, and as such Newland has the honour of being the oldest cricket ground in the country. The long boundaries will prove a challenge for any batsmen, and the pitch surface has been prepared to equally favour pace and spin bowlers. According to a long standing tradition, any batsmen who can hit the clock on the roof of the member's stand will receive a cash prize, currently 1,500 Tildas. In the ground's 66-year history, it's only been done four times.

Fairweather, Marion State
Marion is a large island to the west of the country. Dominated by the mountain at it's heart, much of Barunia's early wealth was derived from the potassium-nitrate mines along the cave-pocked coast. The state capital of Edwardton has no cricket ground, so games will be played in the southern city of Fairweather. The Cricket ground is located on the coast, overlooking the Bay of Good Fortune.

Fairweather Cricket Ground
End names: City end, Bay end
The second largest ground in the country, it might seem like it would be hard to score boundaries on this immense oval field. However, the outfield is extremely quick, and even poorly struck balls can race away for four. The pitch will favour spinners slightly, but pacemen should still get some good bounce out of it.

Monte Sol, Tildos
Tildos island is located north of the states of Porthaven and West Barunia, and the capital city of Delmars is the second largest in Barunia. Monte Sol is a growing township on the east of Tildos, and the development of the area includes a new cricket ground. A large number of people in Tildos state speak Spanish as their first language, but thanks to an excellent education system the vast majority are also fluent in English.

Estadio Del Sol
End names: River end, City end
This is the newest cricket ground in the country, and is of an average size. The ground is circular, not oval, giving batsmen a chance to score boundaries all around the ground. The pitch is a bit soft and wont provide too much bounce.

We're top of the table, an absolute shock given that we had no sort of RP or roster before two seconds ago. Next, we play The Nihilistic View, a team that is currently dead last in the tournament, having been beat by the hosts most recently by 161 runs. We still stand undefeated, while TNV is defeated.

We predict a strong win for the Maroon Lions, with the chance for a international championship drawing ever closer and more realistic as each day goes by.

Italics are currently in a qualifying positon.

After a fulfilling win for the boys, they sit as one of two undefeated teams left, with only Gloriax sharing that title, while hosts Barunia is also level on points, but with a loss.

Today, we take on The Sarian, winner against New Koln and LRI, but losers against Jeckland and Barunia. They currently are in fifth, with two wins and two losses, and four games to play still.

We beat Barunia, Patistan, and TNV, so we don't have quite as strong of a schedule to go off of, but we are looking good in a game that will have large bearing on our qualification. We do not know anything about the team other than their results, though, so that is a minor issue.

Therefore, we must predict a win, because if they do not send a team, how are they to beat us? We say that we win by a few wickets.

Disappointing display at the ODI Challenge Cup saw Jeckland eliminated. The team were one of the favourites but failed to live up to the hype, and have now been knocked out of the competition. The ODI manager Andy Masters has been told his job is safe for the immediate future.

New Koln to the play-offs
After 7 really crucial games New Koln finally reaches the play-offs as the 5th ranked team.New Koln wants wins to the playoffs to get to the next stage. The lucky 38 runs difference win against the third ranked Barunia was really helpful. Now let's hear what the ODI Cricket President John Folks has to say.
Jack- Mr Folks you should be really happy from these performances especially today's one.
Mr Folks- You are absolutely right Jack, but let's get to the basic part. Our players could make better performances if we could win the 3 games we lost we could be greately happy.
Jack- Ok, but what about the position is it good for you?
Mr Folks- Yes absolutely but goodbye I have to go to my brother who's in the hospital.

Heading into the final regular Matchday, New North Aqmuland has qualified for the ODI. Challenge Cup's semifinal round of four, in which a win is required to advance to the final. This was achieved by a single-wicket win over the Lunar Republic Islands. This leaves us as one of two teams to qualify, tied with Gloriax at the top of the standings. For our final match of the regular competition, we face New Koln, who we don't know all that much except that they are currently in fifth, in need of a major miracle to qualify. We predict a win, and we will hopefully enter the playoffs as the top seed.

However, New Koln seems to be under the impression that they have already advanced, a little confusing for our sportsmen, who watched the team they are facing go a little kooky. It seems a little odd, that Mr. Fox holds an interview affirming the advancement of the New Kolnians, while the reality is that they are unlikely to advance. We have included the interview from the article below...

This match should prove to be interesting indeed. Signing out for now, we will bring you the converge of the World Cup of Hockey match later today.

New Koln Are Confused

Postby Jeckland » Mon Feb 10, 2014 10:06 am

New Koln have become very confused at the ODI challenge cup rankings, and seem to think they are qualified for the semi-finals. They are in fifth with one game left, and whilst they still might qualify, they are not guaranteed a top four finish. Indeed you wonder if they don't have any bowlers or know the rules of the competion, how they got this far.

Finally New Koln was right and they advance to the semi-finals and it's the biggest New Kolnese sports achievement in their history to NSSports.
