Allamunnic States Daily
World Bowl XXII Coverage

Regulars defeat Firebirds, 50-17
Sets up rivalry game with Cassadaigua

Six touchdowns. Five turnovers. Two field-goals. One safety. All these things helped the Regulars march into RepublicSoft Stadium in the Free Republics and pull out a dominating win over Osarius in the Round of Sixteen, helping the Allamunnic squad to shake off the monkey on their back of not winning an elimination-round game last year.

The Regulars' blowout win over Osarius, as well as Cassadaigua's similar blowout/shutout win over Karditan sets up the latest iteration of a classic rivalry that dates back to World Bowl VII between the #5 Allamunnae (9-3) and #6 Cassadagans (10-2).

Offensively, the Regulars had a huge day against the Firebirds, as Daanyl Wyndhorst and Graagur Baaltrsunn each piled up yards. Wyndhorst ended up rushing 20 times for 105 yards and two touchdowns, while Graagur Baaltrsunn added another 112 yards and two touchdowns on 22 rushes.

Meanwhile, Leif Erikson had a solid, if unremarkable game, going 16/20 for 227 yards and a touchdown, resulting in a total of 444 total offensive yards. Justin Connors connected on two field goals, one of which was from 29 yards out, and another from 38 yards out. However, both field goals came late in the game after the Regulars had adopted a much more conservative gameplan.

Meanwhile, the defense had a huge day of its own: while Osarius was helped by a couple of big returns, they managed to spark just enough offense to avoid being shut-out. Ultimately, however, Leon Saint's team was unable to muster up its usual explosive offense, and Luke Saint tossed three interceptions, one to Andrik Ierunmungur, one to Belle Marquette, and one falling into the hands of interior linebacker Steven Lindburgh, which Lindburgh returned for a touchdown.

Additionally, Luke Saint was sacked in the endzone by Honorius Waalturs (one of his two and a half sacks of the team total nine) for a safety. Waldr Baersvylk and Archie Wagner each forced a fumble, as well, recovered by Kyl Waalturs and Maarkus Staalhelm, respectively.

"Today was a great game for us," head coach Ryan Smart said in the postgame press conference. "We got to up against a tough opponent and play a strong game for sixty minutes, start to finish to move on to the next opponent."

He, as well as numerous other coaches and players, were copious of their praise of Cassadaigua, their next opponents.

"It's always a good game when we play against the Dagans," defensive end Honorius Waalturs said. "They always play a good, clean game, and as a group they're a fierce group of competitors. I mean, they've been to the finals more recently than we have, our rivalry is closely contested, way more than the more-hyped ones we have with Qazox and Karditan, and unlike the Qazoxians, their team isn't full of obnoxious [expletive]s."

"That secondary of theirs is second to none," quarterback Leif Erikson told reporters. "It's always a tough test trying to throw against them. Obviously, the rest of their defense is none too shabby, either, but... those defensive backs, they're terrifying for a quarterback trying to avoid screwing up."

Consensus in both host nations as well as both competitor nations is that Church of Saintland Stadium in Free Republics is due for a truly world-class match as the Dagans and Regulars meet up once again, renewing one of the longest-running ongoing rivalries that still exists in World Bowl competition.

Regulars fans may be amused to note that, after strutting about their "two rings" (guess what! "THREE rings!") which came so far apart (and their most recent coming in a cycle where they did not face the Regulars) and boasting about how good they were, Qazox was beaten by two scores by the Royal Kingdom of Quebec. Allamunnic fans will probably be happy, as usual, at the nearly-annual deflating of the Qazoxian windbag.

In further additional, related news, multiple teams from the Allamunnic Gridiron League have requested permission to interview offensive coordinator Baeryk Vaalburger and defensive coordinator Jethro Myers, with league sources confirming that multiple teams are interested in the two coordinators as possible head coaching candidates.

The team also stated that Baeryk Vaalburger will not be able to help the team practice for Cassadaigua, as he will be returning home to visit his ailing father, former Allamunnic National Team head coach Staphan Vaalburger.

UPDATE: Vaalburger has announced that he will be flying back to the Free Republics to help coach the Regulars against the Dagans. Vaalburger's father, former Allamunnic National Team head coach Staphan Vaalburger passed away last night.

Alleged extremist leader apprehended
Mikel Henderson captured in Rumanika after three-hour standoff

Mikel Henderson, the alleged leader of the Christian extremist organization Soldiers of Christ, was apprehended in Rumanika after a tense three-hour standoff with local police. Henderson was arrested along with six other alleged members of the extremist organization which has been responsible over the last year for numerous attacks against Federal government facilities, officials, and pagan organizations. This has included a bomb attack against the Allamunnic national gridiron football team and an attempted assassination of their head coach Ryan Smart. Other targets have included Commander-General Tyrrus Grahulm, Piekslynder politician Edryk Claemure, and Tyrrslyndur rock star Waldr Udunsunn (of the band Ubernaut).

The cell located in Rumanika had reportedly been the source of threats against the national gridiron team, and it is expected that those threats will cease with the arrest of Henderson and his compatriots.

"We're very glad to finally have him in custody," ALST Daily reporters were told by Maarkus Theodurik, the state police commissioner for Rumanika. "He had eluded our officers for the last several weeks, but thanks to our brave men and women with their boots on the ground, we believe we have managed to put away a very dangerous terrorist."

Staphan Vaalburger, 1933-2015
Long-time gridiron coach passes away in Leif's Harbor

Staphan Vaalburger, a prolific and successful gridiron coach, family man, and philanthropist, passed away in his Leif's Harbor home on Friday from complications arising from heart disease. He was eighty-two years old.

Vaalburger was born in 1933 in a working-class suburb of Leif's Harbor, the second child of Waaltur, a dockworker, and his wife, Sara. Vaalburger graduated from Dorik Leifssun High School in 1950, at which point he enlisted in the Federal Army. He was posted to the Ostlundic front, where he served for six years. After being honorably discharged from the army in 1956, Vaalburger married his high school sweetheart, Ingryd Mikelsunn, and took advantage of his veteran benefits to attend university at Leif's Harbor College.

During his time at LHC, he played on the college's gridiron football team as an offensive guard. He graduated from Leif's Harbor College in 1960 after completing his Bachelor of Science degree in Education, and he was signed by the Leif's Harbor Vikings of the Allamunnic Gridiron League that year. He ended up playing six years in the AGL, all for the Vikings. During this six-year period, Staphan and Ingryd's first three children, Myra, Waaltur, and Sara, were born, in 1961, 1963, and 1966, respectively.

After his retirement from his playing career, Vaalburger took his first coaching job, as an assistant offensive line coach at his alma mater, in 1967. His fourth and final child with Ingryd, Derrik, was born in 1968. Later that year, Ingryd was killed after being struck by a drunk driver, leaving Vaalburger distraught. He considered leaving coaching behind, but help from his older sister, Maarta, and her husband, Baeryk, allowed him to continue. The three, working together, founded the Ingryd Vaalburger Foundation in 1970, which continues to educate and raise awareness around the country about drunk driving and alcohol abuse.

In 1972, Vaalburger met Jana Kohler, a graduate student at LHC. The two wed in 1973, and their first child together, Hanrik, was born later that year, coinciding with Staphan's rise to the offensive coordinator's position at LHC. Three years later, Vaalburger was hired as LHC's head coach, and in 1975 the couple's second child, Marta, was born. Their third and final child, Baeryk, was born in 1978.

Starting in 1976, Vaalburger began working to rebuild the gridiron program at Leif's Harbor College, which had fallen on hard times and an unsuccessful decade on the field. Vaalburger would spend the next 24 years as the Bruins' head coach, a tenure in which he would lead the college to nine national championship game appearances, with five victories out of the nine games. He would retire in 2000 with a 265-57-14 record, including a postseason record of 60-16.

But Vaalburger's coaching career was not yet over: in 2001, following a disappointing World Bowl VIII campaign, Allamunnic Sporting Commissioner Hadley Thornburger approached Vaalburger about the head coaching job with the Allamunnic National Gridiron team and the project of its overhaul, a job which Vaalburger accepted. Vaalburger energetically threw himself into the job of practically building a team from scratch, and he succeeded in taking the national team to the playoffs twice, compiling a 16-9-1 record, including an 0-2 postseason record. Following a disappointing 3-4-1 finish in World Bowl XI where the team failed to advance, Vaalburger announced his retirement, and he returned home to live out the rest of his days in retirement with his wife, Jana, although he continued to make public appearances in continued support of the Ingryd Vaalburger Foundation.

Vaalburger ultimately died of the heart disease that affected him for the last ten years of his life. He was surrounded by most of his family, and is survived by Jana, his wife of 42 years, and his seven children, Myra Kuhn, Waaltur Vaalburger, Sara Vaalburger-Stoen, Derrik Vaalburger, Hanrik Vaalburger, Marta Rikardsunn, and Baeryk Vaalburger.

A memorial service is scheduled for this coming Sunday at Leif's Harbor College's Jorik Grotto at sunset.

OOC: The 6 to 3 final score calls for the return of a style of RP that I haven't done since World Cup 64.

Royal One Broadcast - Saintland vs. Taeshan

Iosue Galenus and Thomas Crispus are calling the game live on Royal One. We'll let them fill you in on the action.

Iosue Galenus - 1 minute to go and the defense has to stop Taeshan here.

Thomas Crispus - The referee is signalling for timeout. It looks like Randall Quatrain called timeout for Taeshan. He wants to talk the call over with Dramona before they actually run the play.

Iosue Galenus - For those of you just joining us, you've missed one of the most boring games of gridiron ever played. Prince Petrus's offense hasn't been able to get anything going all day on the air or the ground.

Thomas Crispus - Fortunately, Georgius Didius and the defense have shut Taeshan down all day as well.

Iosue Galenus - The only 3 points on the board came off of a Prince Petrus fumble way back in the 1st quarter. The Heir to the Throne called the option. After Mark Drake made it into the backfield and had the Prince stopped, he pitched it toward Petrus Maximius, but the ball bounced off of Andrew Waldrop and to the ground. Reginold Larraby fell on it to recover it for Taeshan. After failing to obtain a first down, Ryan Yorke kicked a field goal, putting the Fitin' Falcons on top.

Thomas Crispus - If we get eliminated, King Paulus XV is going to be furious and rightly so. This official hasn't done his job today. I can't even count the number of cheap shots we've seen today and yet he's only thrown 1 penalty flag on the day. That was for a bogus holding "penalty" on an Andreas Tuccius touchdown run.

Iosue Galenus - Be that as it may, Prince Petrus hasn't played well either today. He's completed just 8 out of 33 passes on the day for a pathetic 63 yards.

Thomas Crispus - That's because the Taeshani defensive backs are blatantly interfering with almost every pass he throws.

Iosue Galenus - Well, the time out is over and it looks like the official has signaled ready to play.

Thomas Crispus - About time.

Iosue Galenus - Dramona drops back to pass.

There was a loud thud.

Thomas Crispus - And Georgius Didius takes him down with a sack! Take that, you cheating Taeshanis!

Iosue Galenus - Isaac Lesack is out to punt. There's not going to be much time left on the clock.

Thomas Crispus - With God on your side, the impossible is possible.

Iosue Galenus - The snap is off and its a perfect snap. Lesack kicks it deep and it looks like Nicolaus Lusius will down it in his own end zone.

Thomas Crispus - No, he's going to run it out.

Iosue Galenus - Lusius has found a hole. 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and he is tackled at the 33 yard line by Tadam McMurray. There are 3 seconds remaining on the clock. Unless we score a touchdown on this play or there's a defensive penalty, this game is over.

Thomas Crispus - Time for the ol' Hail Maria pass.

Iosue Galenus - Everybody in Royal Stadium knows its coming. Prince Petrus is in shotgun, 5-wide. Nemetorius snaps the ball to Prince Petrus. The Prince is standing in the pocket waiting for his receivers to get downfield. Taeshan has 8 back to defend.

Thomas Crispus - Jackson Tyler is in the backfield.

Iosue Galenus - Prince Petrus sees him and rolls out to the side. He's bought all the time he's going to buy. Here's the throw and it is one of the longest throws I've ever seen in all my years of covering gridiron for Royal One. Its going to reach the end zone, where it is tipped by Jacob Martin. Its tipped again by Thomas Lusius and it looks like Ioannes Lusius and Mathew Hainesworth are fighting for possession. I can't tell which of them has it.

Thomas Crispus - The official has the best view in Royal Stadium.

Iosue Galenus - And he's put his arms in the air, signaling for a touchdown. I can't believe what I've just seen!

Thomas Crispus - Its the Will of God. Even on a day when everything went against our Kingdom's National Team and even against the very same team that eliminated us from the World Bowl last year, Prince Petrus still found a way to win. This can only be interpreted as a sign that God favors Prince Petrus.

Iosue Galenus - Since time has expired and the extra point is irrelevant to the final outcome, it will not be kicked. The National Gridiron Team moves on to face West Guiana in the next round. Although the game over at Royal Park is not yet final, Texacano is getting blown out in the 4th quarter, so it is safe to say that it will be West Guiana.

Thomas Crispus - If you follow the international news, West Guiana has been in turmoil lately. They're now calling themselves the Unolian Kingdom and a new government is in power there.

Iosue Galenus - Who would have known that their struggles hosting a World Bowl and a Baptism of Iron would send their country into turmoil?

Thomas Crispus - But they did host a successful Baptism of Iron in between those debacles.

Iosue Galenus - So far, they are 10 and 2 in the World Bowl, with a loss to Stretta and, interestingly, a 7 to 6 loss to the Free Republics.

Thomas Crispus - How did that happen?

Iosue Galenus - The Republicans just found a way to win against an opponent that underestimated them.

Thomas Crispus - You don't underestimate the FFR. If you do, the Republicans will destroy you.

Iosue Galenus - It looks like we have a surprise quarterfinalist. The Quebecois have just upset the defending champs.

Thomas Crispus - We don't have to worry about them until the final. However, Darmen upset the Equestrian States. I don't want to see Darmen again.

Iosue Galenus - That wouldn't be good. Well, it looks like we're out of time. This has been the World Bowl on Royal One. The postgame show is next.

Royal Palace, St. Petrus, Saintland

King Paulus XV turned the TV off. Even though his son had found a way to win anyway, the King was furious. With no soccer to worry about at the moment, the King called his son Andreas into the Throne Room.

King Paulus XV - Andreas, this has to stop. I want you to go to my Government's office right away and tell them that the referee from today's game is to be sent home. After he so blatantly ignored my player safety initiative in such an important game, he is simply not fit to officiate at my World Bowl.

Prince Andreas - I will do that, father. Is there anything else you want?

King Paulus XV - If you see Petrus, tell him I want to see him immediately.

Prince Andreas - Yes, father.

Prince Andreas left to deliver the message to the King's Government, specifically the bureaucrats in charge of the World Bowl. While on his way, he ran into Prince Petrus and informed him that their father wanted to see him. Prince Petrus had been planning to visit the Artemieva residence, but decided that it was in his best interest to head straight home.

King Paulus XV was sitting in his throne room using the Saint to browse the foreign news from around the region. Over in Taxachusetts, the President was trying to adopt measures to stop speculators that were driving up the price of food. Meanwhile, some Republic in the Free Republics was plagued by rampant gang violence. The King always made sure to read that stuff on a daily basis, so he would be reminded of the vital importance of maintaining an orderly and harmonious Kingdom. He liked to remind himself that his Kingdom was a better place to live than most places.

Suddenly, Prince Petrus arrived in the throne room. Prince Petrus looked every bit a commoner to passersby on the street, but his father recognized him instantly. The King spoke first.

King Paulus XV - Good job out there today. Even with a crooked official, you still managed to beat Taeshan.

Prince Petrus - Actually, Conconius held his man on that final play. The official had no choice but to ignore it. He would have had a riot on his hands if he didn't let us win anyway.

King Paulus XV - We do not riot in this Kingdom.

Prince Petrus - I know, but I saw the looks in their eyes. They would have run the referee over to the local pillory and put him in there.

King Paulus XV - That cannot be allowed. Order must be maintained.

Prince Petrus - It would have.

King Paulus XV - I don't know which is worse. That this incompetent ref let them interfere with passes all day long or that he allowed Taeshan to get in several cheap shots against you.

Prince Petrus - Father, I don't need rules protecting me from being hit. You're on the right track with the pass interference rules, but we don't need ridiculous rules telling defensive players where they can and cannot tackle their opponents.

King Paulus XV - Why are you so ungrateful for everything I've done for you?

Prince Petrus - I'm not ungrateful. I just don't agree with your decision on that issue.

King Paulus XV - I'm sure you'll come around.

They continued talking about the game and other matters for the next 2 hours. West Guiana was next for the Sanctii, a chance to reach the semis, but also another chance to be eliminated from World Bowl XXII. They now had no choice. Either they could go undefeated or they would have to wait to win a World Bowl, until the next edition.

Rams hold on to eak out a win in overtime.

Gotta give credit when credit is due, till overtime, Ko-oren took everything the Rams threw at them. It was certainly the most nail biting game of the Round of 16 (At least Saintland managed to avoid OT). Showing any highlights would be a waist of time really as nether team could get anything done for the first 3 quarters. Ko-oren lost the ball 4 times, while the Rams lost the ball only 3 which may have been the deciding factor. Both teams made mistakes, but in the end, the Rams made less.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Coach Rogers Stood across the field with various trainers, including QB Coach Dans McRommels. With the day off she had given the team after that tough match, she came back to Zerabithea to check up on the QB search. The kid they ran with for one game did alright, but she knew they had to get some competition in to insure they got the best.

"Any stand outs so far?" Rogers asked McRommels.

"Well, Quarez has shown some potential." Dans replied. "While I have questions about his arm strength, he's had the second best completion percentage so far."

Rogers turned and faced her QB Coach. "Second? Who had the best percentage then?"

"Well...."

"That would be me." A feminine voice called out from the behind.

The two turned to find the last person they expected. The youngest of the Shoemaker children, petite and with two blond ponytails, Gabriel.

"You!?" Rogers yelled in surprise. "Why are you here?!"

"Why do you think?" Gabriel responded. "To try out for QB."

Roger's right eye twitched a bit. "You're not old enough, you have to be 21."

"Actually." Gabriel took out a small pocket booklet with the official Zerabithean international sports rules. "It says that exceptions can be made for players who are a year off the minimum age if they are a part of a official team."

"How did you join a official team?" Rogers snapped back.

*Cut to the inside of a bedroom where the bed can be seen shaking and moaning can be heard.*

"That's... not important." Gabriel replied. "The point is, I'm here, I'm allowed to be here, and I'll be dammed if I let my brothers get all the glory. I'll be a better QB than both of them!" And with that, she went back to the others.

"She does realized her family has given us more gray hairs than championships right?" Dans asked once Gabriel was far enough away.

"Makes no difference to me." Rogers replied. "I have enough problems caused by ladies right now, I don't need more."

PLEASE NOTE: This court case update will contain the testimonies of Adrienne Geraci and Lauren Beckett. For time and length purposes, I am going to avoid essentially repeating what was posted in this RP when Katie Parker questioned the two of them. It should be considered that their testimonies will go pretty much the same way in their responses to Parker. If you want, you can click that link to refresh your memory. Otherwise, I am just going to be including Sarah Reynolds’ cross-examinations.

Back at the Grande Mountain Courthouse, all the parties involved prepared for the third day of the court proceedings. The media became very interested in the fact that Adrienne Geraci, a former captain was going to testify, and wondered what indeed she might say. In all, the prosecution had four people they planned to bring to the podium. It would start relatively small, with an elderly woman named Wendy McDonald. She was pretty much just going to be the “appetizer” for what promised to be a big day. McDonald was a woman who reported that she had seen Kinson while in The Dark Star Republic hotel on the morning Stokes was murdered,

“Thank you for coming, Mrs. McDonald, I am sure this isn’t easy for you. Don’t be nervous. Remember, you are just here to tell the jury what you saw, so that justice may be served. Are you ready to begin?”

“Yes, mam.”

“Thank you, now you were staying overnight at the hotel Mrs. Stokes was murdered in with the intention of watching game 2, is that correct?”

“Yes. Me and my husband went to the game, I had gone to the lobby to get a cup of coffee.”

“And to prove this, we have provided the court with evidence, mainly her hotel bill, to show that she was indeed a guest there on this date. Your honor, may I give this to the jury to view?” (Judge Neilsen nods), “Thank you. So, Mrs. McDonald, you say you saw Mrs. Kinson at the hotel?”

“Yes, mam. She was with two other people.”

“Now, as a die-hard lover of Cassadagan international sports, surely you recognized Meghan, given that you are also a soccer fan.”

“Yes.”

“Did you approach her at all?”

“She looked like she was in a rush to get somewhere, so I didn’t.”

“She seemed to be on a mission, and did not want to be bothered, or care to be seen by someone who might recognize her?”

“She seemed to be determined to get where she was going as quick as she could.”

“Thank you. Gentleman and ladies of the jury, clearly you can see that the defendant was indeed at this hotel and not in the frame of mind to mingle with Cassadagans, showing that she was not there with the intention to watch a basketball game. I have no further questions for Mrs. McDonald.” Judge Neilsen nods and asks if Sarah Reynolds has anything to ask.

Reynolds stands, “Thank you, Mrs. McDonald for coming here today. I’m not going to pester you, but I have to clarify a couple things. Is that ok?”

“Ok, mam.”

“You say the defendant was with two other women. Correct?”

“Yes, mam.”

“Are these the women?” (Reynolds shows McDonald a picture of the CRIU agents Marie Tannenbaum and Cordelia Naylor).

“Probably, I wasn’t really focused on them as I was Kinson because I knew her. I just thought the others were friends and family. But yes they probably are.”

“The defendant didn’t seem to care about anyone she saw, you said?”

“Yes.”

“Thank you, that is all. I hope the gentleman and ladies of the jury can surmise that this only places the defendant at this hotel and is in fact, consistent with her defense that she was led there by two CRIU agents, one of which, Mrs. Tannenbaum, being the one that shot Ashley Stokes.”

Next to testify for Parker is Stokes’ teammate Brittany Baynes

“Thank you Brittany for being here. I am sure this is extremely difficult for you.”

“It is, I wish Ashley could have enjoyed winning the basketball championship.”

“We all do, Brittany. It is so sad that she had to be shot while experiencing this. Tell me what it was like to play with Ashley.”

“She was a great team player but was also a leader. She loved playing basketball more then anything else, and always wanted to see her teammates do well. It was such a joy to be able to play with her, I just wish I could have been able to do it longer. She deserved so much better then this.”

“I know. From what you saw, what was her relationship like with the defendant?”

“Seemed to be ok. She didn’t really talk about Meghan all that much, she was more focused on playing basketball. Meghan really only came up when you know, the rape allegations were talked about.”

“What was Ashley like when you talked about that in private?”

“Ashley didn’t really want to talk about it. Maybe she would for a little bit, but she would always want to change the subject. She always said she was never involved.”

“Did she talk about it more prior to the murder?”

“She was not herself for the few days before the murder. After we eliminated Qazox in the semifinals, she left the party way too early. Now we just thought it was because she had an off-day on the court, but even leading up to that a little bit, she seemed like there was something on her mind that was bothering her.”

“Did she talk about what that might be?”

“Not really. I guess now in hindsight it might be easier to speculate, but then, no, none of us really knew.”

“From what you knew of Meghan Kinson, do you think Meghan would have it in her to want to kill Ashley?”

“You know, it’s really hard for me to say. What I can say though is that Meghan was really only interested in talking to Ashley, and never really seemed to care about getting to know anyone else on the team. She wasn’t a friendly person. Nor did she seem to be the type of person who be intimidated by other people and forced to do something against her will.”

“By that last part, you are basically telling us that from what you knew of Meghan, if she was one of the three people, she is not there because she is being forced too, or to just knock on a door, like the defense is trying to get people to believe.”

“That is correct.”

“Thank you Brittany. I have no further questions.” Judge Neilsen nods, and invites Reynolds for the cross-examination,

“Brittany, how often did you speak to Meghan Kinson?”

“Not a lot, but only because Meghan was not a friendly person.”

“Not a lot, you say. So how then can you make a statement like you just did?”

“I can tell her personality quite well. She is not a pushover, so wouldn’t be forced to do something against her will.”

“Uh huh. Brittany, you were Ashley Stokes’ teammate, and I know you want her killer in jail badly, don’t you?”

“Of course I do.”

“So badly, that you would certainly give the answers CRIU wants you to give based on the first and only person they ever questioned with the crime, so that word doesn’t get out that it was CRIU that killed Ashley. Please see through the lines, gentlemen and ladies of the jury. I have no further questions.”

Next up, the prosecution calls up Adrienne Geraci. As said in the opening, I will skip what would essentially be a repeat of a prior RP and get right to Reynolds’ cross-examination.

“Good afternoon, Adrienne.”

“Good afternoon.”

“What was it like being the captain of the World Cup 65 team?”

“It was an honor to be the captain of that team.”

“I bet, but things didn’t go well. Pieces fell apart, and the team unraveled, huh?

“Unfortunately, yes.”

“The captain takes a lot of blame for that, huh?”

“Sometimes, yes.”

“That occurred at the pinnacle of the rape allegations too, and you would have preferred that you never had that be a cloud hanging over the team. Correct?”

“It would have been good, yes.”

“And since Meghan Kinson was the component of that team in which brought that cloud, you’re relationship with Kinson soured, huh?”

“No, that had nothing to do with it.”

“You never did get re-named to the team in World Cup 66.”

“I was older and their were better players.”

“Tell yourself that, Adrienne. I think its clear to see that you have a score to settle with Meghan. This would be a great place to do it.”

“That’s bullshit!”

“The jury can decide that. I have no further questions.”

Finally, the big one, the Lauren Beckett testimony. As with Geraci, I am only going to include the cross-examination

“Gentleman and ladies of the jury, in a case like this I think we can agree that there is never a winner. Or there never should be a winner. The woman Mrs. Parker just spoke too and sitting at the stand now stands to not only be the winner but the grand champion of everything. The mastermind of the rape of Seth Johnson gets off free if CRIU has their way. CRIU doesn’t want you to know that it was their own agent who killed Stokes, and they will stop at nothing, including allowing this evil woman a chance to never have to suffer consequences for her role in a rape. I see Seth Johnson’s family there in the back. Look at the woman who was the mastermind of everything, and CRIU, who should be working to get her in jail for a real long time, is going to let her off, and have scripted some answers in which she just gave the jury. So, Lauren, you really want Meghan in jail, don’t you?”

“You are lying about everything.”

“I noticed you live in a home valued at over four million dollars. How are you able to afford that kind of a lifestyle?”

Katie Parker interrupts, “OBJECTION!!! Lauren don’t answer that. Your Honor, clearly she is harassing the witness.”

Reynolds intervenes wanting Parker to have done exactly that, “Your Honor, Mrs. Parker is right. I’ll leave it to the gentleman and ladies of the jury to see the obvious, and that is that this witness is motivated to say what CRIU wants her too.”

Beckett sits down, and Parker announces she has no further witnesses. Judge Neilsen then asks if Reynolds if she has anyone to call up to the stand.

“No, mam. Unfortunately, I am not able in my position to have convicted the proper person, Marie Tannenbaum. I can only hope that the jury renders a not guilt verdict, and that CRIU can apprehend one of their own afterwards, and Marie Tannenbaum can be brought to justice.”

(Due to length constraints, I am going to skip closing arguments. You probably have a good idea of what would be said if you have read this much). Following closing arguments, the judge instructs the jury that they are now to deliberate the case, and gives them the rules of what they must do.

Re-kindling an old flame,
by Rachel Sharper, Concord Heights Times

When the format for World Bowl 22 was announced, I, like many others in Cassadaigua began to take a trip down memory lane in remembrance of the last time this type of format was used. Of course, that was World Bowl 8. But as the tournament went on, this World Bowl certainly was a lot more modern, with nations like Saintland and Gregoryisgodistan along our path instead of nations like Dancougar or Newmanistan. Around this time, too, the nation of Allamunnic States was beginning to make their presence felt, and soon enough the team then referred too as the Volunteers, and now known as the Regulars, became one of our better rivals.

It was a rivalry born the right way. Not because you had two nations with conflicting cultures that couldn’t stand what the other did within its borders. They were a building a powerhouse that would eventually win three World Bowls, while Cassadaigua still remained one of the better teams in the World, though never winning another championship. There were frequent meetings, with both nations having their successes over the other and certainly not a case of one nation having all the glory over the other. The players respected one another greatly, and the nations also frequently scheduled pre-World Bowl friendlies against one another, knowing such a game would surely be a great tune-up for what they would be about to face in the World Bowl. After years of coming close, it wasn’t until World Bowl 16, that the Allamunnic States finally won a World Bowl, and that came right here, in Concord Heights. To a point, maybe the recently crowned World Cup championships here in Concord Heights, Polar Islandstates, will follow the footsteps of the Allamunnic States. Though for a little while, it’s a rivalry that has fizzled, as the teams haven’t met as often. To the point now where the young pups of the World Bowl probably don’t associate our nations much as being rivals anymore.

Most of the Cassadagan roster were only little kids when the best games between the two nations were played, but head coach Kaitlyn Rinaldi certainly remembers, “What I liked the best about playing them, is it was hard nosed football, but respectful. They are a clean team, who excel in the fundamentals of the game. They gave us their best shot, and when we gave them theirs, there was a mutual respect, none of that ‘Women are playing us too tough’ stuff that other nations would do. They’re a tricky team for us, because of the way they play, because they don’t necessarily play to our strength. As a coach, I certainly have my work cut out organizing defensive schemes geared more to their smashmouth style then a team that thrives in the passing game. It’s a challenge, and that’s what I am here for.”

In a sense, that might be one of the best parts of the Cassadaigua-Allamunnic States rivalry. While Leif Erikson is a very good QB, the Regulars are much more about establishing the run, something in which they are usually always able to do. An impressive group of running backs will test the defensive line greatly, and make them work hard. More then likely Rinaldi and defensive co-ordinator Erica Davidson will bring the talented defensive backs closer to the line of scrimmage. One of the keys to the game will be Jessica Minor against the Regulars defense, as it’s a somewhat new group, with many of them getting their feet wet at this level in the last World Bowl, and not performing to the standard in which Allamunnic football is more known for. Certainly, they want to rebound, and they have a great test against the Dagan offense which has been strong both passing and running the ball during this World Bowl. It’ll be a chess match of strategy, and that’s what makes Cassadaigua vs Allamunnic States always an entertaining matchup.

No Second Stringer

"I'm coming for you, punk!"

As his team-mate stormed off, Kelsey nudged rookie Nathaniel Dietrich. "What's his problem?" Dietrich just shrugged. "Eh, screw 'im. He's probably just upset that was the first match he managed to outplay you." Kelsey laughed. "He's been upstaged by a rookie. Good work, son!"

Before he had a chance to reply, Kelsey was off down the hallway to the waiting team bus, still heartily laughing as he went. Stringer did seem to have a good game against West Angola. And now he thought about it, Dietrich definitely didn't feel that he had received as much game time in that match.

He decided to follow Kelsey to the team bus. "Last one on, Dietrich," Coach Winters said as he boarded. "What kept you?"

"Lost cleat, sir," Dietrich replied. It wasn't a complete lie. Winters looked at him with a hint of scepticism. "Don't worry, I found it." Looking down the bus, Dietrich saw only one seat available, and it was next to Stringer. Clearly in a foul mood, everyone else had avoided him. He approached the empty seat with apprehension. As he drew closer, Stringer noticed. His glare was icy.

Before Dietrich could reach the seat, Kelsey jumped up in front of him and went to sit next to Stringer with that big smile on his face that everyone seemed to love. Looking to the now empty seat, next to the veteran right guard Hartnell, he figured that was an intentional move. As he settled in, Hartnell began speaking without any warm-up or pleasantries.

"You're a good kid. Stringer is a massive- ahem... he's a nasty piece of work when he wants to be. He doesn't like the fact that you get the game-time, but hey, you've earned it. It's probably best just to steer clear as much as you can from now on."

Dietrich began to look around, wondering if he could see Stringer. As he did, Hartnell bashed him in the leg. "Argh. What was that for?"

"I said steer clear, kiddo. It's best for everyone."

Dietrich looked at him for a few moments, before nodding. "He's been in the team a while, no?"

"Since the first Strettan World Bowl. Baptism o' Iron winner, just like me." As he spoke, the bus began to pull away. He was about to continue, before the booming voice of Winters caused the bus to tremor.

"Further than ever before, boys! That's where we are headed. Just one team in our way, and it's Darmen. We've never beaten them, but that's about to change. Everyone can feel it, even some reporters. Those hawks will be meeting us at Via Damascus. If you can't say anything clever or positive, don't open your mouth. Focus on your game.

"And, you know... let's smash 'em!"

Allamunnic States Daily
World Bowl XXII Coverage

Dagans best Regulars in instant classic
Late field goal lifts Cassadaigua, 9-6

The Dagans and Regulars added another epic defensive slog to their rivalry, with neither team able to find the end zone, and victory ultimately coming off of Adrienne Morales' 61-yard field goal as time expired. The game was marked as a whole by hard-nosed defensive play and, in marked contrast to other games coming between some more bitter rivals, what was practically chivalry between the two sides.

Leif Erikson and Jessica Minor each threw two interceptions while having roughly similar days: Erikson went 12/25 for 138 yards, and Minor did only slightly better, going 15/30 for 166 yards. Meanwhile, on the ground, Kaitlyn Rinaldi and Erica Davidson's schemes for containing the Regulars' rushing attack paid off, as Daanyl Wyndhorst rushed 12 times for 38 yards, Gragur Baaltrsun rushed another 14 times for 43 yards, and Ole Nurdsunn added 19 yards on another four rushes. The Dagans' rushing committee wound up getting similar results on the ground, with neither team producing a hundred-yard rusher, and with the Regulars moving slightly more on the ground (with 100 combined rushing yards on thirty combined carries versus the Dagans' combined 87 on 25 carries). The Regulars' Daanyl Wyndhorst and the Dagans' Stacie Meehan each coughed up a fumble after particularly violent collisions, and both ended up being slow to get up, in on those particular plays.

The two teams with four championship victories and six title game appearances between the two of them, ranked 5th and 6th, were, for most of the day, completely evenly-matched. Equally rewarding for spectators was the sportsmanship displayed by the two teams, with players frequently going from delivering bone-rattling tackles or blocks on each other to helping each other get back up only seconds apart. Each team had one player go down during the game, as Regulars' linebacker Steven Lindburgh and Dagans tailback Stacie Meehan each ended up leaving the game after injuries that initially appeared serious (Lindburgh had a concussion, and while further details for Meehan were unavailable, it does appear that she will be able to play against German Zerabithea). In both cases, players from both teams worked to make sure that the injured players were able to get off the field safely.

Neither team was especially penalized (apart from one or two holding calls and a pass interference), and what little smack talk could be heard between players was apparently good-natured. All things considered, it was about as friendly as a playoff game in any sport can possibly be, and the two teams mingled for a significant amount of time after the game. The amicable tone of the match and its aftermath was something which the Regulars' coaching staff and players echoed after the game.

"It's disappointing to fall short again," Honorius Waalturs told reporters after the game, "but considering the team who pulled out the win over us, I don't think there's any shame here on this team. We played a tough, tight game against a good opponent, and ultimately the final break went their way. It's happened often enough when we've played them."

"It would have been nice to leave here victorious," head coach Ryan Smart said, "but we have a team here that can hold its head high. There's no shame in falling short on a late field goal against a world-class opponent."

Several players also announced that they would be staying for Cassadaigua's remaining games to root for the Dagans as they attempt to return to the finals for the second year in a row. Chief among those players were quarterback Leif Erikson, defensive end Honorius Waalturs, tailback Gragur Baaltrsunn, and cornerback Belle Marquette, all of whom were spotted chatting amiably with their opponents after the game.

There were a few developments as far as personnel went after the game. Perhaps the most significant announcement was Ryan Smart's departure, followed by Andrik Ierunmungur announcing his retirement from playing.

"I have loved being the head coach of this team, but I really have reached the peak of personal accomplishment at this level, I think. In the face of that success, I've been questioning whether I've been able to stay as motivated as this team deserves, and I realized the answer was 'no.' The Regulars deserve to be led by someone hungrier, who's ready to take the challenges head on and prove themselves worthy of and with this wonderful group of men and women. For my part, I am eager to facing whatever new challenges await as I continue my career in a different arena."

Ierunmungur finished his career with the Regulars after starting his playing career in the AGL with the Thomasburg Ironmongers. He had played on the Allamunnic National Team since World Bowl IX, and during Ryan Smart's tenure was a veteran cornerstone of a staunch defense that helped lead the team to three World Bowl Championships. But, Ierunmungur said, all good things must end.

"I've had fourteen great years representing this country in a blue and silver uniform. I've experienced the highs of triumph and the lows of failure, and I've gotten to build a bond with a family of some of the best gridiron players in the world. This ride has been an absolute honor and a privilege, and while I don't know what I am headed for next, I'm relishing the opportunities on the horizon.

And a shift that had been predicted by many as they observed a change in leadership was made official. The day after Smart announced his resignation, General Manager Ben Jamison announced that Baeryk Vaalburger would be the Regulars' new head coach.

"We did a lot of things this year, most of them should be sources of pride," he told reporters at his introductory press conference. "But there's plenty of stuff we didn't do as well as we wanted. So, as it's been every year since I've been here, every year since our nation first put a team in blue and silver in the World Bowl, we are going to head home, and we're going to make sure we go farther next year. A brief respite, and then it will be back to work."

As the case now enters the jury deliberation room, please assume the following: Juror #1 is the foreperson, and Jurors 7-11 are the four men which make up the jury.

Juror 1: “Well, everyone, it’s time. We all heard what the judge said, we must come to a unanimous decision on all of the applicable charges. So what does everyone think, let’s start from the top with the first degree murder charge. I think she is guilty, what about you.”

Juror 2: “Hold up a second, some of us might not want others to know what we think yet.”

Juror 7: “Nor do we want peer pressure coming into play. If the first 10 people think she is guilty, and the 11th thinks she is not guilty, that person should be able to freely express their opinion and not feel pressured into saying she is guilty. We are talking about first degree murder here, not petty larceny.”

Juror 3: “What’s the problem with that? I just wanna get out of here. It sucks that I had to miss the World Cup final for this.”

Juror 2: “I watched a TV show once where everyone just wrote down what they thought on a sheet of paper, then they just gave it to the foreperson. Let’s do it like that.” (Other jurors nod)

Juror 1: “Yeah that sounds like a good idea. Everyone please write down your opinion on each of the charges on a sheet of paper then pass them to me and we will discuss them.”

Juror 3: “So what were the other charges again? Murder and some other stuff?”

Juror 7: “This is a serious case. We need to provide justice for Ashley Stokes and to Seth Johnson. Everyone needs to be serious about this.”

Juror 4: “Yeah, let’s just get on with this. I don’t want to take all day either but you know we all spent a lot of time listening to everything and going through with it, so let’s finish it off right!”

Juror 1: “Exactly. Thank you. The other charges were, first involving the Stokes murder: First degree murder, conspiring to commit murder, accessory to murder, illegal use of firearm, criminal possession of firearm, illegal transportation of a firearm, bribery, and criminal intimidation. Then, in regards to Seth Johnson another count of first degree murder, first degree rape, conspiring to commit rape, and hindering a criminal investigation.”

Juror 3: “Dayyumm that’s alotta stuff.”

Juror 4: “Yes it is, and the other charges besides first degree murder can carry serious jail time too, so even if we acquit her of the murder, she still is looking at a lot of time.”

Juror 1: “Please write down your initial opinion of her guilt or innocence of each charge, so we know what we need to discuss and what we agree on.”

The jurors take their time to do this, and after about twenty minutes, they have concluded writing down their opinions, and hand them to the foreperson, who takes about another ten minutes to tabulate the votes.

Juror 1: “Alright. We have come to a consensus on a few things. We have unanimously agreed that the defendant is guilty of being an accessory to murder, bribery and criminal intimidation in regards to the Stokes murder, and that she is guilty of conspiring to commit rape and hindering a criminal investigation on the Johnson murder. We have not come to a unanimous decision on any count that find her not guilty.”

Juror 7: “Well that’s a start.”

Juror 3: “We’re gonna be here forever. I’ve seen this on TV before, it’s gonna be one of those things that take days and days.”

Juror 1: “The initial votes on first degree murder of Ashley Stokes, 6 say guilty, 5 say not guilty. For first degree murder of Seth Johnson, 4 say guilty, 7 say not guilty; conspiring to commit murder of Stokes, 8 guilty, 3 not guilty; illegal use of firearm, 6 guilty, 5 not guilty; criminal possession of firearm, 7 guilty, 4 not guilty; illegal transportation of firearm, 10 guilty, 1 not guilty; first degree rape of Johnson, 9 guilty, 2 not guilty. Who wants to begin?”

Juror 2: “I’m just not convinced that Meghan pulled the trigger. Sorry. Those agents were in deep trouble too if Stokes came clean about the rape, and most of us agree that there was a rape now. It’s feasible that one of them pulled the trigger. I haven’t been convinced that it was Meghan.”

Juror 4: “Why else would Meghan be involved? Why would the agents need Kinson just to knock on the door to get Ashley to open it, if they were gonna be the ones who killed her. They work for fucking CRIU. If they wanted Stokes dead, they could have found a way to do it without Kinson.”

Juror 8: “If they didn’t have Kinson there, as CRIU agents, they would have had an easier time covering this up.”

Juror 5: “Yes, but we can’t speculate. The agents have motivation. First degree murder means she pulled the trigger. I have a reasonable doubt that she did not.”

Juror 4: “I agree with juror 8. Look, it’s easier for the agents to get away with this if Meghan Kinson is not there. If she is still in Cassadaigua, then people right away aren’t thinking about the rape, or what Kinson’s motivation would be. It could be all kinds of things, anyone could have killed her, even a pissed off fan from Qazox that we beat them in the semifinals.”

Juror 7: “Remember jurors 2 and 5 and anyone else thinking she is not guilty that hasn’t spoken up, we don’t need to have it proven beyond all doubt, just beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Juror 6: “I think 4 and 8 make a good point. Change my vote to guilty.”

Juror 4: “Now, I reckon those who don’t feel she was guilty were the ones who also voted not guilty for the counts involving firearm usage. Surely, those who change their mind, change their mind on that too.”

Juror 2: “Hold up. Of course the agents want you to think Kinson did it. That’s why they brought her there. She was always going to be an obvious target of CRIU, and with the agents working for CRIU, they could be sure the investigation went in a favorable way. I still think she is not guilty. Sorry.”

Juror 3: “Ahhhh shit, we are gonna be here for days aren’t we. Just like on TV.”

Juror 7: “Now, let’s talk about Seth Johnson for a moment. Why the 7-4 vote in favor of not guilty. I take it that’s gone right down the line between the men and women.”

Juror 1: “The gender part is not important. But yes maybe we can move to that. I believe that there is simply not enough evidence to support it. All we have is Lauren Beckett’s word on that.”

Juror 2: “Yeah, sorry. Beckett has her own motivations to things here. There is no other evidence there to support this murder charge then her word, and that is certainly not enough. She is certainly extremely motivated to have Kinson in jail or even put to death. It would have been nice in regards to this charge, if Tannenbaum and Naylor were put to the witness stand too but obviously since Tannenbaum pulled the trigger on Stokes, they would want nothing to do with it. Look, I am not saying Kinson didn’t kill Johnson, there’s just not enough evidence to support it.”

Juror 8: “Come on, why would Kinson have had the agents go there after the fact?”

(And so the deliberations go on.... and on..... and on.... and on. Lasting 2 ½ days. Then finally....)

Juror 1: “Well, I believe we now have a consensus on everything. Thanks everyone for sticking it out, now, let’s go give our verdicts to the judge.”

Juror 3: “Finally!!”

What has the jury decided? Find out in the next update!

Morales’ 61-yarder clinches it,
by Rachel Sharper, Concord Heights Times, Senior Editor

In dramatic fashion, the Dagans were able to knock off the Regulars of the Allamunnic States in a battle of the field goal kickers. Morales would be the one striking last, as she connected on as 61-yard field goal on the final play from scrimmage to give Cassadaigua the win. It was a fitting closure to a game that was hard-fought the whole way, with each team not surrendering an inch on the field without making the opponent earn it. Following an incomplete pass that had the intention of getting the team closer to the end zone for the field goal try, there was no other choice then to kick the long one on 4th & 13 with just two seconds left on the clock. Morales has kicked a 61-yarder once before, and had a career record of 2-for-4 on tries from beyond 60 yards. For this to connect, everything had to be perfect, and Adrienne was able to just get enough of it for it to sail over the crossbar. “I knew it had the accuracy, but the distance, you never know. I know I can make the kick, so I just kept telling myself to just tune out everything else, and focus on lining it up perfectly. I felt good when it left my foot, but you never know.” The players held their arms up as it was in the air, hoping it would guide the ball over the crossbar while the Regular players seemed to hold their breath and hope for overtime. With the win, Cassadaigua takes on German Zerabithea for the right to play in the championship game. In a stunning result, West Guiana knocked off Saintland 25-6, certainly leaving what had been the lone remaining host nation with some question marks as to whether their team can step it up in the playoffs; as after all they managed just 12 points in their two games following the group stage.

Back to the game, it was the expected battle in the trenches between the two sides, reminding us old-timers what is used to be like when these two teams met. There will be one loss for this game if your Cassadaigua, as you will recall Stacie Meehan had to leave the game late in the second quarter. Tests did reveal what would only be called a “lower body injury” at this time, but Meehan is declared out for the semifinal game. Crystal Amodeo will get the majority of the carries, more then likely. Now, before you panic, remember that this is the national team and Amodeo is the 2nd best running back in the nation, so it’s not like your domestic club team losing their starting back. Anyway, most believe that Amodeo will become the starter in the next World Bowl, so this could be a great experience for her right now. For quarterback Jessica Minor, it is not her best statistical game, but a game like this is never about fancy numbers for your fantasy football team. Defensively, coach Rinaldi and the defensive coordinator Erica Davidson did a great job balancing a variety of blitz packages that would employ both linebackers and they seemed to be very effective using Stacie Hutchinson on safety blitzes. Rinaldi naturally was pleased with the result, “We drew up plays during practice, and they did a great job executing them. We came up with some big plays when we needed them the most, and everyone had a hand in this win.” It was a clean game, with the referees keeping the flags in their pockets, for the most part, and both teams played with a lot of respect for one another. Jessica Minor herself was impressed, “(Waldr) Baersvylk got a good licking on me in the first quarter to get a sack and I was surprised when I looked to see him extending his arm. He smiled, and I told him back ‘good hit’, and I think it set tone for the game. Football is a tough game but its good to see that the old school type players still exist.”

For the Allmunnic States, legendary coach Ryan Smart formally announced his retirement from the international team. Smart had coached the team in eleven World Bowls (including this one), and led them on for their three World Bowl titles. You would be hard pressed to find any football coach with a better resume then Smart. Cassadagan coach Kaitlyn Rinaldi spend a significant time talk with him after the game and handed him one of the game balls. “I told him, this was not about today, but about every day that had past. This is for you on a great career.” In a scene reminiscent of World Baseball Classic 19, when Cassadaigua eliminated Newmanistan, ending the legendary career of the greatest baseball coach of all team that led Newmanistan to four World Baseball Classic titles, Rinaldi had all of her players shake the hand of Smart, and thank him for all that he has done for the game while acknowledging that his teams have always played the game the right way. There are many parallels to that day in World Baseball Classic 19, and what happened here, today. Cassadaigua will be hoping World Bowl 22 ends the same way World Baseball Classic 19 did, too.

All across the Hotel, everyone is active. They know tomorrow they face Cassadaigua in what could be their hardest semi-final match yet.

The old players are in one room, they watch old game videos, reminiscing about the old days before they face what may be their last hurrah. While a coach in the back wonders how much time she herself has left at this point.

In another, a kicker sits, debating the words of a cloaked figure. "Are you concerned more for your team? Or a nation in need of change? You said yourself you did not feel like the feminist icon you thought you'd be, well here's your chance."

Meanwhile, an often disgruntled QB in another room sits, talking with his sister on the phone. She wants tips on how to get to the coach's good side.

"Well?" Cafeno asked Rogers as the video played.

"It's nothing." She replied. "Just thinking about the news from A.S, Ryan Smart retired."

"Yes, I heard of that myself." Cafeno replied. "I'm sure everyone has at this point."

Rogers pondered her thoughts for a bit, then replied. "You know, he's only coached a little longer than I have, makes me wonder how much longer I got." Cafeno was going to reply but Rogers stopped him. "I know the circumstances are different for him leaving, that's not the point. Ever since WB 16, I've wanted another game against that team, HIS team. Not just some friendly off season scramble, an actual game. I suppose in some ways, I feel a bit better, no longer having to worry about losing another game to him, no longer having to worry about revenge, but damn, it would of been nice."

Cafeno laughed, along with everyone else in the room who had been listening. "It is a bit unfair." Replied Donald. "Saintland lost this week too, so now we can't get them for beating us earlier this year. It's like the only team we were allowed to get revenge on was Osarus.

"Well not exactly." Replied Cafeno. "We did beat the Sharks back in WB 16, and they had crushed us all the way back in 8."

And there was more laughter.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Katie tried to get sleep, but with all the thoughts going around in her head, it was not exactly easy. "Could I really join them?" She thought to herself. "Could I leave behind my old life to make something better? Would it even be better?

She moans and pulled the pillow over her head. It would be a long night.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Look Gabe." Robert replied. "I don't know what to tell you, she doesn't want you on the team, there's not much you can do about it."

"If what you and Gonzo have said about her is true, then that's Bull Shit and you know it." Gabriel replied. "Why? Are you trying to protect me or something?

"Well the press has not exactly been the nicest to me or big bro."

"Ughh." She replied. "I'm not a little girl anymore, I don't need you protecting me!" And with that, she hanged up.

Nothing came easy for anyone that day, but nothing ever does. Wether it's a player, or a writer with a writers block, they would find a way.

Media Lockdown

"They look like hyenas."

"Come again?"

"Yeah. You know. When the lion is eating, and they hang around waiting for the big cat to get full, then they come in and clean up. That's what they are."

"They get along, you know..."

"Only in the films," proclaimed Auteberry, as he stood by the window looking down on the heads of the waiting Strettan news teams who were eagerly waiting in front of the hotel. "Looks like some foreign crews are down there."

"Why would they care about us?"

Auteberry turned from the window and sat on his bed before answering Kelsey. "Mystery."

A blank face stared back at him. "We have mystery. Since we aren't allowed to speak to anyone, it means everyone wants to ask us things. Like that woman who won't pay you any attention. She's the one you want the most."

"Do you have a simile for everything, Wyatt?"

"Big word there, friend. Careful you don't choke on it."

Back at the Grande Mountain Courthouse, things were buzzing both in the courtroom and outside of it as news got out that the jury had completed their deliberations. A verdict would be announced, and all media outlets were expressing their opinions over what would be decided. Even some online gambling websites got in the mood, taking wagers as to whether or not Kinson would be acquitted or convicted (for the record the moneyline showed a preference towards her conviction). Inside, the jury stands for the arrival of Judge Neilsen, then takes their seats. The judge instructs the foreperson to stand.

“Have you reached a unanimous decision on all charges?”

“Yes, your honor.”

“We will start low, and work high and we will begin with the charges involving Mister Seth Johnson. Are you ready?”

“Yes, you honor.”

“On the count of hindering a criminal investigation pertaining the alleged rape of Mister Johnson?”

“Guilty!”

“On the count of conspiring to commit rape of Mister Johnson?”

“Guilty!”

“On the count of first degree rape of Mister Johnson?”

“Guilty!”

“And finally, on the charge of first degree murder of Mister Johnson?”

“We have found the defendant guilty of first degree murder of Seth Johnson.”

“Thank you. Now, pertaining to the alleged murder of Mrs Stokes, starting small. Criminal intimidation?”

“Guilty.”

“Bribery?”

“Guilty.”

“Illegal transportation of a firearm?”

“Guilty.”

“Criminal possession of a firearm?”

“Guilty.”

“Accessory to murder?”

“Guilty.”

“Conspiring to commit murder?”

“Guilty.”

“And finally, first degree murder of Ashley Stokes?”

“We find the defendant guilty.”

“In summary then, you have found the defendant guilty of all charges?”

“That is correct, your honor. The jury also highly recommends the arrests of Marie Tannenbaum and Cordelia Naylor and for them to be charged with a variety of charges pertaining to assisting the defendant commit these murders.”

Judge Neilsen paused to allow everyone in the courtroom a moment for the verdict to sink in. Meghan Kinson gave a cold stare to the jury as they read the verdicts, knowing this will be the end. The happiest people in the courtroom were the friends and family of the two victims, Seth Johnson and Ashley Stokes. Finally, they would get some justice. It would come far too late, and wouldn’t seem to be as much as it could have been, particularly for Johnson, but it would be something. The attorneys acknowledged the verdict, both with expressions reading more of relief then anything else, that this was over. Katie Parker knew there would be more work on her end, as Tannenbaum and Naylor would also need to be brought to justice. Reynolds never liked to lose, but knew she had more people willing to hire her for her services. And whenever Sarah lost a case like this, where she knew the defendant was guilty, she never seemed to mind the decision. As everyone began to realize what just happened, Judge Neilsen began to speak,

“I thank everyone for their time. I thank the gentleman and ladies of the jury for fulfilling their civic obligation all the way to the end, in what was a long process, but indeed worth it. All of you can go home now and resume living your lives knowing you have done a great thing for your community, and for Cassadaigua. Thank you. The court acknowledges the verdict. Mrs Kinson, it is over. You couldn’t be happy knowing that you got away with your horrific crimes toward Seth Johnson, and needed to continue to show your criminal instinct. You are a vile woman, and I am ashamed that you were able to represent Cassadaigua in the world’s premier sporting competition. Even that wasn’t enough for you, was it? At any rate, it is my duty to decide on the appropriate punishment for these crimes, but there is indeed only one that will fit. You will be executed on Friday morning by electrocution. I also order the Cassadagan Royal Investigations Unit to apprehend Marie Tannenbaum and Cordelia Naylor, so that they too may be brought to justice as accomplices of these murders. The court acknowledges the plea bargain deal to Lauren Beckett, and advises Mrs Beckett to stay out of further trouble. The court also orders the apprehension of Rachel Samuelson, who did not testify and therefore did not live up to her end of the plea bargain, and for her to be charged with first degree rape. That is all. This court is adjourned.”

Friday morning.....

Judge Nielsen sits in the execution room and Meghan Kinson is brought to the electric chair. Like the court proceedings, this was closed to the media and open only to the two attorneys, and friends and family of the two victims. Parker and Reynolds stand side-by-side in the back of the room as the Judge orders, “The court has decided that Mrs. Linda Johnson, the mother of Seth Johnson, shall be the one who flips the switch. Mrs. Johnson has happily accepted this distinction. Are there any final words by anyone?” (Parker and Reynolds keep quiet, and allow friends and family to say various things to Kinson. Meghan herself remains quiet). “Linda, you may flip the switch.” Mrs. Johnson proclaims, “this is for Seth. And Ashley,” and the switch is pulled, the execution takes place, and Kinson is put to death. This was always tough, no one ever liked to witness this, but they all knew it was the right thing. There would be more to be done with this case, mainly dealing with Tannenbaum and Naylor, but it seemed as though that would all fall in line.

Katie Parker and Sarah Reynolds shook hands with the judge, and then one another.

“I got the next one,” Sarah mumbled with a sly grin. “But I’m glad to have lost this one.”

“I look forward to our next meeting, Sarah. Thank you.” Katie replied.

“I’ll be there.” replied Reynolds as they made small talk and headed on their ways.

Katie Parker returned to her seat at her desk that evening, exhausted. Her assistants had done a good job in the office while she was gone, and she ordered them to handle the apprehension of Tannenbaum, Naylor, and Samuelson. She went online to check various things and noticed that the Dagans had advanced to the World Bowl final in the Free Republic. It would be a great way of relaxation and a nice mini vacation, so she decided to see what she could get at the last minute. Parker was happy to find tickets, though at a high price, and knew that she could count on Cascade Air to have a last minute flight. Booking seats for herself and her husband, and taking Adrienne Geraci’s advice to use an assumed name, she would be on her way. Sitting in her seat, and beginning to relax; another women down the aisle.

“Hey Katie! Surprised to see you here!”

“Sarah?!”

“Going to the World Bowl?”

“Damn right!”

“I think we both earned it. At least on this, we’ll be on the same side!”

“Since you won, the first round is on me.”

“Sounds like a plan!”

Dagans returning to World Bowl final,
by Rachel Sharper, Concord Heights Times, Senior Editor

On a day where much of the nation observed the execution of Meghan Kinson, leading to endless hours of debate as to whether or not we should have the death penalty in Cassadaigua, the national football team won a high-scoring affair over the Rams of German Zerabithea, 58-30. With the win, the Dagans will face the team that knocked out Saintland, West Guiana, in the championship game. They were victorious over ambitious up-and-comer Stretta, by the score of 31-20. The game will take place right here at Gem of the Oceans Stadium in the Free Republic, meaning all Cassadaigua will need to do is extend their hotel reservations in the city (though more then likely the team already had their reservations this long and would have just checked out early) while West Guiana has to travel in from Saintland. If that’s not an advantage for the Dagans due to the lack of travel, it will certainly be advantageous for the team to stay in the Free Republics. At least here, they don’t completely despise us, whereas in Saintland you know the last thing they’d want is to see us be the last team standing at Royal Stadium.

Unlike the Allamunnic States, German Zerabithea prefers an aerial attack, and most would have thought that would play into the hands of the Dagans, and early on, it did. After Adrienne Morales hit a 40-yarder on the game’s opening possession, Shannon Jackson picked off a Robert Shoemaker pass and returned it 64 yards for a touchdown, giving us a quick 10-0 lead. The Rams did not go quietly, and would roll off sixteen unanswered, before Morales’ second field goal with 2:09 remaining closed the gap to 16-13. Perhaps, the turning point of the game with 25 seconds remaining when Alexa Kielty blocked a Katie Wisselspoon attempted 47 yard field goal, and the defense returned it the distance, to put Cassadaigua up 20-16 at halftime, when it looked as though they would be down 19-13. It was from there that the Dagans, and Jessica Minor simply took over the game. The pink and black would score touchdowns on three consecutive possessions, with the drives going 82, 80, and 75 yards respectively, all in the third quarter. Kiersten Carmichael caught two of the touchdown passes, with the touchdown reception hauled in by Stephanie Reagan. It was more of the same in the fourth quarter, and the team was not phased by the Rams TD, and the brief stall of a Dagan drive that resulted in a field goal to make it 44-23. Minor would lead the team on another TD drive, this culminating in a 4-yard TD run by Crystal Amodeo, who fared well overall with 103 yards on 22 carries in this spot-start. Following the score, coach Rinaldi opted for the second team, and Caitlyn Fisher took advantage of her chance by leading the team downfield 70 yards on another drive, and Heather Sullivan getting the score to make it 58-23. The Rams managed a meaningless TD in the final minute to try and salvage some dignity.

Following the game, coach Rinaldi knew exactly where the game turned but maybe for a different then expected reason, “The blocked field goal for sure. Not just because of the scoring play, but for a player like Alexa Kielty to be the one who made it happen was uplifting. She spends most of the game on the sidelines, and this proves how everyone on these team can contribute to the cause. It really got us rolling. For a little bit this had the look of another tight one, but the momentum shift there was huge, and we continued to pour it on in the third quarter. We played a great game, but all this does is get us to the same spot we were at in the last World Bowl, and we didn’t win anything there. We need one more win.” When asked about a possible hostile environment, Rinaldi replied, “Since the start of the tournament, that’s been just a bunch of media hype. I’ve never felt as though the officials have been out to get us, or the organizers refuse to allow us to win. We’re getting booed, and that’s fine, that happens. But that’s all it is, and it’s not an issue, nor do I expect it to be one in the title game.”

One bit of housekeeping to report, Stacie Meehan is listed as questionable. She is expected to be activated, but only to play sparingly. Crystal Amodeo will be the starting back and see the majority of carries.

I will add much more into this RP post later but for now, here's an audio transcript from Concord Heights Radio 99.9:

"Two seconds left and 3rd and goal, Dodd steps back, fakes the handoff, lobs it up and it's... caught by Lucos for the touchdown. (long pause). Well, its only fitting that a game like this heads to overtime. Nice clutch play right there, Dodd sold the play action really well, and this game is going to overtime.
(pause) Yshimo lines up the extra point.... HE SHANKED IT!!! HE MISSED THE EXTRA POINT!!! HOW COULD HE DO THAT?!

Postby Cassadaigua » Mon Feb 03, 2014 6:09 pm

It was game time, and fans at Gem of the Oceans Stadium began to fill up the seats. The final of World Bowl 22, with Cassadaigua seeking their second ever World Bowl title, and a team from West Guiana hoping to have their signature moment. Many storylines could be written about this game, regardless of which team ended up with the victory.

Katie Parker and Sarah Reynolds each had made plans to attend the game after the verdict of the Meghan Kinson case was announced; each not knowing in advance that the other had the same idea. The seats that they were able to pick up were on opposite side of the stadium, but that would only be fitting. Parker was noticed by some Cassadagans, but for the most part was able to enjoy being just another person, and not a celebrity. It was just her and her husband, and they needed to have this time to be together. Still, when you are the head of CRIU, you’re investigative instincts will never go away.

“Look at the way that vendor expects a tip, soon enough he’s going to deliberately overcharge someone,” Parker said to her husband, only to get an eyeroll. Little things like that were to be expected, but Parker wouldn’t let up,

“Look at them. They look like, like, they’re not here for football.”

“Katie, stop, please. Let’s just enjoy the game.”

“Sorry. I don’t like them though, they look like they are up to something that has nothing to do with this game.”

“Katie, there’s plenty of security here. If they do something, security will get them. You are not security here.”

“Fine, I just feel like, something’s gonna happen.”

“Honey, you just had an exhausting murder case and resolved another rape and murder case. It’s only natural that you will worry about things, but trust me everything will be fine. Let’s enjoy the game.”

“I guess you’re right....”

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

On the field, West Guiana was sharp early, taking a quick 10-0 lead. Hiro Yshimo connected on a 44-yarder on their first possession, and after forcing Cassadaigua to a three-and out, they drove down the field again for a touchdown. Jessica Minor was shaking her head, and the defense just didn’t look too sharp in this one. But like the game against German Zerabithea, it took a play on special teams to wake up the Dagans. Still down 10-0, midway into the second quarter Walker Allison fielded a punt and broke through the would be defenders, with only 48-year old punter Darlene Engbert to beat. There was no way in hell that Engbert would be able to tackle Allison, so she did the only thing she possibly could do: she went for the strip. The confident Allison, expecting that he was returning this for a touchdown and all he needed to do was push aside Engbert, was loose in his securing of the ball as he went to push the punter out of the way, and Engbert’s futile chance to strip the ball connected perfectly. Allison fumbled, and while Engbert had been pushed out of the play and run over, the ball tracked back enough for the astute Adrienne Lewis, who to her credit, never stopped hustling in a bid to catch Allison, was able to bounce on the ball. Minor and the offense seized the momentum, led the team to ten points just before the halftime break.

Defense ruled the third quarter, with both teams only getting a field goal, and the Dagans were able to put together what proved to be the eventual World Bowl winning drive with 6:02 remaining in the game when Minor hooked up with Kiersten Carmichael for 34 yards. West Guiana remained resilient, and appeared to get a game winning touchdown. It is unclear how Yshimo missed the extra point. The snap might of been a bit too high, and perhaps the hold was a little off. Or maybe it was just the pressure of the moment.

Or maybe, it was fate. As expected, the team celebrated on the field, as they could now call themselves World Bowl Champions. It wasn’t easy, as unlike World Bowl 8, where it was done on the field of a nation in The Babbage Islands where the Dagans had a strong relationship with, to do so in the Free Republics was so much different. It was as good of a celebration as could be, until, well, you know. It’s all over the news.
