Baptism of Iron XV(15): Everything Thread

Postby The Royal Kingdom of Quebec » Sun Dec 29, 2013 1:24 pm

The 15th Baptism of Iron, proudly hosted by the Royal Kingdom of Quebec!

Welcome! This is the everything thread for the 15th Baptism of Iron, very tournament for the newcomers to the World Bowl and for many, American Football. RPing is expected, and as no nation has a rank, is crucial for your win! By participating in the BoI you will receive ranking points that will help you further in the World Bowl XXII. More information on scorination, venues and other information will be found in the next administrative post.

SOME FRIENDLY INFORMATION THAT CAN HELP YOU A LOT

1. RPing doesn't necessary equal win. RPing good, creative and well will increase your chances of winning by a lot, and for most of the times you will. However, it's possible that you might lose even with a perfectly-crafted RP.

2. Please follow the opponent posters. If your opponent has posted a roster, please follow it so you don't get in trouble by that person because you hadn't bothered to look up names. It is annoying when you've posted a roster, but others don't follow and make up names on your team.

3. Follow your opponent's RP permissions. Rp permissions are rules that each individual participant sets, that others must follow. This only applies if you're RPing before the opponent team does. If you've posted your RP after they did, please do try to make the events same. For example, don't post that your team had 5 Touchdowns and 2 Field Goals when you only scored 9 points and the previous RPer said that your team scored 3 Field Goals. If you don't by the deadline, you will not get a RP bonus for that RP.

So, have fun and good luck!

Little bits of information about Royal Kingdom of Quebec which will help with RPing

Introduction and how to get there

The Royal Kingdom of Quebec is a fairly large nation in the Northeastern area of the region of Esquarium. Despite its large size of land, it only has population of 49 million people, with the balance between cities and rural population being fairly even. We are a human nation so no talking animals and such(even though they will not be treated as non-sapient animals should any enter the nation).
The main languages of Quebec are English, French, Korean and local First Nations languages, however, the country has many other languages that serve as secondaries to these 4 major ones. In terms of ethnicity, it is a very tolerating and diverse nation. Regarding to laws and politics, Quebec is extremely liberal nation with some exceptions: possession and usage of firearms are illegal unless the owner&user, as well as the weapon in possession and use, are registered. Recreational usage of drugs is legal by all means, even though it is heavily taxed and controlled by the Government(drug dealers when caught are punished with minimum 10 years of jail time). Sports-wise, Gridiron football is very much a second-most popular sports in the nation, right behind Ice Hockey. The nation has a very popular league in the form of Quebec Football League, with almost all games selling out and enjoying continuous financial successes. As have seen in the previous Baptism of Iron, it is certain that this level of popularity, love and fandom will continue into the Baptism of Iron, so get excited!

To getting there, It is most recommended to fly to Quebec. Considering that Quebec isn't located in one of three major sporting regions(AO, Rushmore, Esportiva), It's most likely that it'll take long to travel. All major Quebecois cities have an airport and the nation has a very affordable, popular and advanced railway system as well.

Venues Information

Games will be held in Kingston, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City for the 15th Baptism of Iron. The southwestern part of Quebec was chosen to host the BoI XV, with the turnout it got from previous Maple Leaf Bowl and size of its major cities.

Kingston

Kingston is a major city in the Southwestern corner of the nation, with the population of 3 million. an international centre for business and finanace. The city's cosmopolitan and international population reflects its status as one of most important destinations for immigrants to this Esquarian nation. The city itself is a mix of different periods and styles in history, which draws attentions to many visitors and residents. However, the city itself is quite weak on culture, a huge downer for one of Quebec's largest cities.

Capacity: 47,560
City: Kingston, Frontenac
Home team(s): Kingston Argonauts(Quebec Football League), Kingston Blue Jays(Quebec Baseball Association)
Matches to be Hosted: Group A, Quarterfinals, Semifinals

Ottawa

Ottawa is a medium-sized city of 1.85 million based on high-tech instustries and transportation, the latter due to it being the junction of 5 highways, 3 railway lines and 2 rivers. In recent years, the rise in Informational Technology and industries related has made Ottawa one of Quebec's most educated and affluent cities. The city itself hosts 2 well-known universities and headquarters of some of Quebec's rising companies, but other than there aren't much to do there.

Ottawa Lansdowne Stadium
Capacity: 39,420
City: Ottawa, Outaouais
Home team(s): Ottawa Renegades(Quebec Football League)
Matches to be Hosted: Group B, Quarterfinals, Semifinals

Montreal

Montreal is the largest city of the Royal Kingdom of Quebec. With the population of 12 million in the area, the city is the centre of Quebec's economy, culture, commerce, finance, industry, transportation and sports. While there are plenty of things to do there, we won't get to all of them(the list is too long and OOCly hard for me to write). The demographics tends to be younger and more educated than the national average.

Capacity: 28,560
City: Montreal, Montreal
Home team(s): Farrer University Redmen(Football, Soccer, Track and Field), Montreal Alouettes(Quebec Football League)

Quebec City

Quebec City is the second largest and the capital city of the nation. Compared to other cities, it is particularly a Franco-Korean(with latter more dominant) city, which makes playing in/visiting the city quite unique. The general demographics tend to be slightly older than national average. There are certainly lots of places to visit: The city is home to 24 museums, 56 theatres and over 100 cultural institutions in place, with many artisans producing works that were in place as early as 800s. An example is USC. Universite St.Croix is the nation's most accredited learning institution, producing some of multiverse's leading scholars, businessmen and of course leaders.

<Koyro> (Democratic Koyro) NSG senate is a glaring example of why no one in NSG should ever have a position of authority
The Emerald Dawn wrote:"Considering Officer Krupke was patently idiotic to charge these young men in the first place, we're dropping the charges in the interest of not wasting any more of the Judiciary's time with farcical charges brought by officers who require more training on basic legal principles."

About Knox Valley

Knox Valley is a tiny, almost micro-sized nation of less then 600,000 people located in tiny coastal Valley in Rushmore. Despite its small size, the nation is full of ravenous sports fans. In fact a recent poll showed 92% of Knoxians follow at least one Sports Team regularly. TA tough yet Scrappy Nation, that hopes to have a tough but Scrappy gridiron team.

About Our Team

This will be the Volunteers first rodeo, as this will be the first International contest the nation has entered. The nickname Volunteers comes from the fact that the Dominion of Knox Valley was Founded by volunteer explorers from a now lost nation. The team prides itself on it's offense and believes that despite the population gap between Knox Valley and other nations.

Players to Watch out for.

QB #18 Manning Peytona : A rare physical specimen of 6'4'' height and 230lbs weight. Peytona can play with the big boys and probably can do so in other larger countries. Peytona was also the first person to throw for 4000 yards in College when he played for the University of Marianas and the first 4500 yard passer for the Martinsville Matadors

DB #41 Terrance Fayer: the veteran statesman of defensive backs in Knox Valley, Terrance has the instincts to know how to properly jam a receiver and when to stay clean. He played for West Hanford in College and is now the South Brooklyn Bees best player.

Notes

The Federation of Free Republics (FFR) is a federation of Republics with a weak national government (the "Federation Government") that has numerous checks and balances. The Republics, each of which has its own government, are relatively independent, although they are subject to the Federation Constitution and its numerous restrictions on what government can do. Most important among them is the cap on taxation, which makes it unconstitutional for government (meaning all governments in the FFR) to take more than 10% combined of anybody's income in taxes, effectively limiting the government. They are the nearest neighbor to Saintland, although that tiny island nation is over a thousand miles to the north of the northern-most Republic's northern border, and most Republicans actually tend to consider progressives worse than religious fanatics, even if both ideologies are considered extreme and contrary to Republicanism. The players on this team would not necessarily be considered the best players in the FFR. Republican athletes tend to have massive egos and often aren't interested in playing for their country.

This team, like other Republican National Teams, was created by its coach. In this case, it was the creation of Logan Allen. Coach Allen has been a successful assistant coach for many professional teams, but he has never been offered a job as a head coach. After the promising start to the National Soccer Team program run by Rule Theriault, Allen decided to start his own National Team in football. Since football is the most popular sport in the Free Republics, it was easy to find investors for the team and Coach Allen quickly obtained the funds he needed and then some. When he heard that Saintland wanted to host this edition of the World Bowl, he contacted the Sanctii embassy and they put together a joint bid, using the Casaran format that had been used in the ill-fated Saintland-Legalese World Cup bid. The Republican National Team has a truly massive roster, filled with depth. If a player is struggling, Coach Allen will be perfectly happy to bench that player and give somebody else a chance.

Coach Allen chose to go with an offensive based around a dual-threat quarterback, usually throwing or running out of the pistol formation. Thus, all of the quarterbacks on the roster are dual threats. Meier Pongor is a 255-pound power running back. Rasmussen is more of a balanced back. Neither of them catch passes well, so Jake Willis will come in on 3rd downs. Rosado is a possession receiver. Basic is a deep threat, but he is notoriously inconsistent and a poor route runner. The tight ends are primarily pass-catching tight ends. If the Free Republics need extra blockers for a play, Allen will bring in an extra offensive lineman instead. Defensively, the Free Republics play a bend-but-don't-break scheme, involving heavy amounts of Cover 2, Cover 3 and Cover 4. The zone defensive scheme can confuse inexperienced quarterbacks. Alfie Lord is the star of the defense. He is a very good middle linebacker with the potential to become a dominant player at the position. Kwiatkowski is the team's best pass rusher, but he is downright awful against the run. Zuyev is a very accurate kicker, but van Harn has the stronger leg and would be called upon if the Free Republics needed a 60-yard field goal to win a game. Connor Stewart is a dangerous return man whom opposing teams will want to avoid.

There were errors with the other scorinating. That's why this was rebooted with a different thread and such.

OK, here's the roster and that sort of thing.

We are currently coming off of our first win, against bottom team Gloriax. Our mext game is against Caek of the Wolfen, who is just above us in third. They are coming off of a loss against Free Republics, at the top of the table, 10-3, the same margin that we lost to them by.

Prediction
Caek of the Wolfen 28-17 New North Aqmuland

Though both teams have had decent starts to their campaign, it will be Caek that wins this battle, as they have shown themselves to be the slightly stronger team in this case.

Postby Zhenovia » Mon Dec 30, 2013 2:01 pm

After the previous "Baptism of Iron" games were deemed void, and became counted as friendlies, the Republic of Zhenovia had to once again play their previous opponents. They came out and won in an even more dominant fashion.

Baughmerica v. Republic of Zhenovia
After Dominic Crawford returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, the Zhenovia fans were rocking. Sebastien Helms hit the extra point, and then kicked the ball through the endzone for a touchback on the kickoff. The noise level was too much to handle for the Baughmericans, and their right guard committed a false start on the first play. After an incomplete pass and a two-yard run, they faced third and 13. The quarterback dropped back for a pass, and got hammered from behind by blitzing linebacker Parker Teague. They punted from close to their own endzone, and Zhenovia would start from midfield after a decent point and a short return by Crawford. Shawn Winthrop would trot out with his Zhenovian offense to the field up 7-0 and with good field position. A few screen passes were successful, as were some draw plays, and they marched the ball into the red zone. However, the Baughmerica defense held, and the Zhenovians had to settle for a 35-yard field goal. The defenses both made some key stops over the next few possessions, but a long punt return set up the Baughmerians deep in Zhenovia territory midway through the second quarter. On 4th down, Baughmerica lined up for a 37-yard field goal. However, their holder rolled out, and found a wide open tight end in the endzone for a touchdown. The score was 10-7 Zhenovia, and remained that way going into the half. Baughmerica had some hope going into the second half and a long pass took them to the two yard line. First down resulted in an incomplete pass. On second down, a run up the middle was stuffed. The back was hammered by defensive tackle Edgar Gallows, and the ball ended up on the ground. Duke Drummond, who had charged in from his outside linebacker position, pounced on the ball, as it was fumbled forward into the end zone, resulting in a touchback. Baughmerica was devastated, as their chance for a lead was gone in an instant. Zhenovia's offense performed a well executed play-action pass, and Shawn Winthrop found a wide open Randall Murray for an 80-yard touchdown. Just like that, Zhenovia was up 17-7. What was once a chance for a four point lead for Baughmerica turned into a 10 point deficit. Baughmerica had no success on their next drive, and went three and out. However, Zhenovia was unable to move the ball much, and was forced to punt as well. Later in the third, an interception by Zhenovia cornerback Ricky Davenport set up a field goal by Sebastien Helms. Neither team could muster much offense, and midway through the fourth, Baughmerica finally seemed to be moving the ball. However, linebacker Parker Teague jumped a pass intended for the tight end and returned it to the Baughmerica 17. After a three yard run by Max Bolton, a wide receiver screen resulted in a touchdown for Zhenovia. That sealed the deal, with the final being Zhenovia 27, Baughmerica 7.

Player of the Game: Randall Murray: 8 catches, 151 yards, 2 TD

Scoring Summary
First Quarter
ZHE: Dominic Crawford 96-yd kick return (Sebastien Helms kick good) Republic of Zhenovia 7, Baughmerica 0

Third Quarter

ZHE: Sebastien Helms 42-yd field goal Republic of Zhenovia 20, Baughmerica 7

Fourth Quarter
ZHE: Shawn Winthrop 15-yd pass to Randall Murray (Sebastien Helms kick good) Republic of Zhenovia 27, Baughmerica 7.

Emeralds United v. Republic of Zhenovia
Max Bolton had a field day in this game, rushing for 158 yards on 25 carries and a pair of touchdowns. He also had 32 yards receiving on 4 catches. Sebastien Helms made both of his extra points, and hit field goals from 31, 34, and 47 yards. Parker Teague, Zeke Scruggs, and Duke Drummond each had a sack. Teague forced a fumble and recovered it, and Quentin Schaefer and Darius King each had an interception. After winning 13-3 in a previous matchup, Zhenovia kept Emeralds United off the scoreboard, and scored 10 more points of their own.

Final Score: Republic of Zhenovia 23, Emeralds United 0.

German Shepherds v. Republic of Zhenovia
After winning 9-0 against the German Shepherds last time, scoring on a fumble recovery and a safety, Zhenovia finally put some points of offense on the board, and still kept the German Shepherds off the board. The Shepherds failed to get anything going on the ground, as they rushed for less than two yards per carry (31 total), and struggled moving the ball through the air as well. Their defense once again set them up to win, but their offense failed to pull through. The only touchdown of the game came on a short run by Max Bolton in the third quarter. Duke Drummond had a field day, recording 15 tackles (12 solo), 2.5 sacks, 4 tackles behind the line of scrimmage, a pass deflection, and a forced fumble.

Final Score: Republic of Zhenovia 10, German Shepherds 0.

Vols start 2-1 in Baptism of Iron

Knox Valleys international Sporting Debut has gone smoothly as the Volenteers have garnered a 2-1 record. Game one, played against our northern Neighbors "Polar Island States", produced a dominate 28-10 victory. Manning Peytona threw for two touchdowns and completed 22-31 for 302 yards. Lewis Ja'mell lead rushers with 16 attempts for 80 yards and a 11 yard touchdown.

The next game was a bit more rough, HopNation scored two special team touchdowns (A blocked Punt return and Kick-off return) as the Hopnation defense held the combined Vols rushing attack to fifty yards on 31 tries. Manning Peytona did slightly better job by going 12-22 for 207 yards.

Knox Valley returned to form with a 16-13 win over Sjovenia, in a wet and muddy game that saw an importance on running the ball, Peytona did his job as he went 8-14 for 102 yards, and Stephen Travis got 97 yards on 20 carriers and two touchdowns. Reggie Black scored a safety
and Sjovenia was held to only 90 yards of total offense.

So, Karditani Equestrian Rugby.

Albeit nearly completely alien to the sport of American football, barring the odd glance of another country's sports broadcasts during their ritual scrutinising of the multiverse, The Commune, being a strong contender in domestic rugby feel they have the necessary ability to challenge the world at American football. The name 'Karditani Equestrian Rugby' comes from their assumption that it is a form of rugby championed by the current executive persons of the sport.

The players in the team, despite looking sort-of-humanoid are actually about as human as your average coffee machine. They are all manufactured clones with their names being merely a pseudo-brand name and model number. These androgynous beings are all of an sturdy athletic build, roughly 2 metres tall and totally devoid of any body hair. Completely emotionless, they exhibit no reaction to pain and very seldom actually vocalise anything. Being created purely for the purpose, they are however, extremely talented players. All are fast, strong and ruthlessly efficient. The kicker, Discord V can convert near impeccably from distances over 50 yards and quarter-back, Daemon XII can pass accurately over nearly the same distance. There are no set defensive, offensive or special teams as all players are completely interchangeable and don't, or at least appear not to tire. Any player could be on the pitch at any time.

Their one weakness is their lack of communication and lack of management staff. This team can score points with the greatest of ease but expect a lot of interceptions, 4th down turnovers (they will punt exceptionally rarely. 80 yard field goal attempt? Of course. 4th and 35. Running play perchance? You betcha.) and other poor tactical decisions. Dummy passes, blitzes and the like will frequently catch them off guard. The only management figure is an elderly Communadi gentleman who calls himself 'the Babysitter'. He's just there to check the players are all accounted for and knows nothing of the sport itself.

The team have no kit as such. All players will be bare-chested (names tattooed across the top of their chests and backs) and wear slim dark-grey bottoms with their number emblazoned on the thigh. Don't think the lack of body armour will lead to more injuries though as you'll have to seriously try hard to render one of these guys unfit to play and even with broken arms and legs the players will attempt to continue regardless. Also, like most Communadi, they are extremely vengeful. If you cause (serious) injury, they will reciprocate.

Bear that in mind if you have plans to kill a player ...

Have fun.

Though it doesn’t have as big a following as Association Football in HopNation, American Football is the second largest sport. With the chagrin of Warren VonHopton, Winston Churschmidt created the first league, HopNation Football League (HFL), in the HopNation State of Hefebayern (HBN). Despite the sport being the second largest (in terms of viewers reached through the TV network HBN, not in actual team/league size), Hefebayern (HBN) is still the only state in HopNation that plays it. This could be because Hoptonians commonly call it ‘Handball’, since the players don't usually use their feet in relation to the ball - besides the kickers. However, Churschmidt expects growth after the successful launch in Hefebayern, but only time will tell if his expectations become reality. The National Team known as the 'Malts' is a thrown together squad, consisting of the best ‘Handballers’ in all of HopNation (well Hefebayern, HopNation anyway) and probably not all of the best as many of them could not be released from current contracts in order to play for the National Team.

Team Colors: Orange, Black, and White

OOC - some names may or may not be based on RL NFLers, living, dead, or otherwise.
Please let me know if this violates any rules, I couldn't find anything on it. If it is I can change them.
I find it fun and/or funny.

We're 3-0 in the BoI
by: Logan Allen

The Real Gridiron Simulator just looks so real that it is unreal. Our Baptism of Iron broadcast partners made a slight mistake, broadcasting a simulation using the Real Gridiron Simulator rather than the actual Baptism of Iron. Surprisingly, they didn't notice even though Quebec was once again hosting this edition of the BoI and the Real Gridiron Simulator version was being played in the stadiums from West Guiana that had hosted the BoI 2 years ago. It was a hilarious, but very serious, mistake by the television broadcasters, but one that will fortunately be corrected going forward.

As one can imagine, RepublicSoft did not possess reliable information about the relative strengths, weaknesses and skill levels of the teams competing in this edition of the BoI. This is evident based upon some of the downright bizarre results that were broadcast as if they were actual results. Otherwise, why was New Koln 2-1 while The Stoned Surfers were 0-3? That was just downright bizarre. The reason for these results had to do with the lack of information available to RepublicSoft regarding these teams. New Koln was represented by their NSCF team, which had somehow, against all odds, managed to win a conference. However, most BoI nations were represented, in the simulation, by randomly generated placeholder teams and were often wearing placeholder uniforms. RepublicSoft will be releasing a Day 1 Patch for the Real Gridiron Simulator, which will replace the placeholder teams for BoI nations with teams based on their actual teams. Review copies had been sent out, with instructions to avoid the BoI teams and modes because they were in an unfinished state, but apparently these instructions were ignored and some reviewer decided to use the Remote Broadcast feature to broadcast it over the network's airwaves and nobody was able to tell the difference for a few days. That should tell you just how realistic the engine running the Real Gridiron Simulator is.

Since you didn't see the actual Baptism of Iron due to the errors by the television network, I will describe what happened. We opened against New North Aqmuland. Surprisingly, we ended up in a defense struggle, as we would in all 3 of our games so far. The World Bowl XXII rulebook was not in effect and the defense would be spectacular in these 3 games, playing much better than I had expected them to play. Since we could win these games by playing it safe, that was exactly what I chose to do. There was no need to risk injury to run up the score in a BoI game, nor was there any need to reveal our offensive scheme prior to the start of the World Bowl, unless we absolutely need to do so.

So far, we have given up just 6 points, 2 field goals, in 3 games. This is because our defense, designed to bend, but not break, is not even bending thus far. Yet, our offense has managed just 13, 14 and 10 points over our first 3 games. While I've never been a head coach before, a former offensive coordinator such as myself would rather win 33 to 30 than 13 to 10. Still, I have chosen to go mostly with predictable running plays because it is better to play it safe and take a low-scoring win than risk a young quarterback losing a game on turnovers. I have seen the footage of Saintland's BoI and it is evident from that footage that the early exit of the Sanctii 2 years ago was due to Prince Petrus's greed. The Prince of Saintland wanted to run up the score and instead ended up making too many turnovers. These turnovers cost the Sanctii their chance at winning a BoI. This is a mistake that I am not going to repeat.

This is why my play-calling has been over 60% run so far. I don't want Drasko to reveal too much to future opponents. Instead, I am much more comfortable giving the ball to our stable of running backs and letting them burn up the clock. That's not the style of football that I want to play, but its the style that makes sense right now. I have been particularly impressed with the blocking of Inunnguaq Enoksen, who seems to have improved immensely as a left tackle of late. Indeed, the offensive line is playing fairly well for us, so far. They will definitely need to, if we're going to have a chance of getting to respectability in the World Bowl.

With it appearing increasingly likely that the World Bowl will utilize a second group stage, we will need to finish in the top 32 to advance out of the Casaran stage. That's certainly doable, but right now we have 2 more games to go in the Baptism of Iron. We will be facing Zeneabo and Azurlavai. However, with Azurlavai and Caek of the Wolfen both 2-1 at the moment, the more important of the 2 games will be the final one against Azurlavai. Zeneabo is currently 1-2 and will be attempting to stave off elimination from the BoI (i]OOC: Unless there is going to be a Ro16.[/i]). Meanwhile, Caek of the Wolfen and Azurlavai have already faced one another, on MD1. If we win and if both New North Aqmuland and Gloriax pull off upsets, we will clinch the group with a day to go. Otherwise, we are going to be playing meaningful games until the end of group stage. As I constantly remind the team, we are here in Quebec to win the BoI and the only way to do that is to defeat every opponent that they put in front of us. We have no margin for error and there are no guarantees if we lose even a single game. Since everybody is gunning for us, we cannot afford to take any chances in the Baptism of Iron.

Logan Allen is the head coach of the National Football Team of the Free Republics. He is a long-time assistant coach in the Free Republics, who was unable to obtain a head coaching job with a professional club despite being successful everywhere he has ever coached. Finally, Coach Allen decided to set up his own National Team, inspired by Rule Theriault's success, and he quickly found the investors he needed to do just that. Being a gambler at heart, Coach Allen has decided to bet the house on his plan to co-host the upcoming World Bowl XXII with the Sanctii, a bid that was unanimously accepted by the World Bowl Assembly. During the off-season, Coach Allen lives with his family in Yellow Bay, Vorita.

Malts Handball
The HopNation Football League (HFL) has barely had time to establish itself and it is already trying to gain some world recognition. The league leaders and coaches tried to hand select a talented group of players in order to represent the nation, but due to it’s strict player union it found this task almost impossible. The union almost started a revolt against the HFL but decided against such actions as they are desperately trying to gain their own nations support and expand past the only state they currently compete in. So, instead of this revolt where they planed to have all the players walk out of the stadiums at the start of each game, they decided to limit player selection to this National Team. They initiated a set of salary standards, so that any player designated as a poverty earner or a superstar earner who also has a contract shorter than 3 years could not be drawn into the National Team selection pool. Since the union only allowed contracts of over 3 years to players not on a rookie status, this greatly reduced the number of players the league leaders could choose from. League leaders then decided to hold a tryout in order to get the best of this limited group. But again the players union stepped in, informing the league leaders that this re-tryout for players already in the league would violate the player contract as once signed only game performance can be used to evaluate a player. With that it seemed the National Football Team was in limbo while game footage was reviewed. During that time the league leaders did select the coaching staff since they were outside the players union this process was very easy. After much film watching the selection process was turned over to Coach Churschmidt and his new coaching staff. They are currently trying to finish up with the final roster spots as their first game in the BOI is quickly approaching.
The coaching staff has added a few more players to the bench as they are still trying to made headway when it comes to the players union and the strict guidelines placed on the league leaders when it comes to selection of the National Team. It’s a good thing they were at least able to produce a starting defense and offence for the first two matches of the BOI. The coaches are hoping that they have a fuller squad for the remainder of the tournament. However this has established a greater divide within HopNation and it’s support of ‘Handball’. The citizens of Hefebayern seemed to be rallying behind the HFL in recent weeks but after news of the player unions selfeshness and complete lack of actual care for the players interest has now sparked outrage. This is quickly spreading throughout HopNation. It is unlikely that Winston Chirschmidts’ vision of ‘Handball’ being the true second most loved, watched, celebrated, sport in HopNation will ever come to be. There is a meeting in the works between the players union and league leaders, but can the meeting resolve some of the issues which are plaguing the young league. Will anything be accomplished that will allow the National Team the rights to select the best players in the HFL? Or will the meeting simple prolong the downfall of the HFL and end the brief run of the Malts? We may not know for some time. Since the initial headwinds produced by the players union has made the union very reluctant to even mention it’s guidelines outside of union meetings. We can hope that this does get resolved, but if it doesn’t it’s very likely the BOI will be the last competition for the National Team. Time is not on the National Teams side as the BOI is moving along with its schedule rather quickly, and so far nothing moves quickly with the players union. Winston Churschmidt has called Warren VonHopton a number of times now, but since the founder is out of the nation competing in another event he has not been able to be reached, and Churschmidt has not been able to get any guidance on the matter. So, we will have to wait and see what happens, whatever happens, we hope it happens quickly.
League leaders and union officials met over the last 18 or so hours in what we are being told was a grueling debate. We have also been told that some headway has been made but there is still a lot to be done. The coaching staff of the Malts is looking to add in the remaining roster spots as the selection pool rapidly diminishes. They made some initial calls out to the players of interest, but no calls have been returned. We did a little research into this and have heard that the players union had instructed players not to respond back until their meeting was over with the league leaders. Now that the meeting is over we hope some calls will be made back to the coaching staff so they can finish filling the roster. But there is also another meeting today, so perhaps nothing will happen until all meetings are complete. So it seems for the time being the Malts are still going to be running with a less than optimal team.
A couple notes on the prior meeting, obtained from our inside source:
1. Salary Cap and minimum salary levels are being negotiated.
2. Player non-availability is being withdrawn from contracts.
a. will allow players to freely enter into sponsor agreements
b. will allow players to accept invitations to play for out of league teams (National Teams)
c. will allow players to be traded to other teams within the league
3. No contact rules are being eliminated
a. see 2a-2c
It seems some good things are in the works, but getting these three items through the players union might be harder than one thinks and was evident in the 18 hour meeting. We were also told that many more things were discussed but our source was not able to comment on anything other than these three things. If these three are true then the Malts will be able to get the players they were looking at in first place. But we saw no mention of tryout status, so their still might not be a team tryout and coaches will need to rely on past game footage in order to select those players they want. There is still a lot ahead of the league leaders and players union, but hopefully they can resolve their issues before the end of the BOI and the team heads into the World Bowl.

More proposals have been made during the last closed door meeting between League Leaders and the Players Union, but progress is still very slow. So what does this mean you ask? Well it means that players are starting to gain some ground when it comes to their playing rights and the Players Union is actually becoming less involved in individual player contracts. Where in the past the Players Union was a huge part of a player’s contract and that contract put a lot of stipulations on what the player could do. The National Team Coaches are still struggling to put together a full roster, but at least they have both offensive and defensive starters available. The team only has two games left in the group stage of the BOI and as reported before they are hoping to have a full roster by the time the team enters into the World Bowl. There are still many meetings set up from now until the start of that competition. If we look back at what has happened during the last two meetings we’ll get a good look at the progress mentioned. The first meeting brought us three main proposals, which were passed during the second meeting. The three items were:

3. No contact rules are being eliminated
a. see 2a-2c

They are still trying to define the limits of item 1 (Salary Caps and Minimum Salaries), but items 2 & 3 are now in place, which really is going to help players and the National Team going forward. The next three items were released by our insider following the second meeting and the passing of the original three items. Here they are numbers 4 thought 6.

4. Player safety committee organization taking place.
5. Rule review and update
6. TV contracts being removed from the Player Union and being given to each team to negotiate.

Looking at the first two items it seems League Leaders are being pushed by a bit from the first three items as the Players Union has offered up those proposed items. This was, from what we were told, widely accepted by the League Leaders and show pass easily in the next meeting. We don’t know exactly what rules are being reviewed, but our contact hinted at a couple items relating to kickoffs, punts, clock plays like kneel downs and ball spiking. So we await more details on those items. As for number six and the TV broadcasting contracts going to the teams rather than the Players Union, this is great news and will remove even more power from the Players Union. Well, we will have to wait for the next meeting to see what effect the passing of the first three items have and what the next three items will bring. We will also check in with Coach Churschmidt to see what progress has been made on selecting the rest of the National Team.

Match Day 4 Preview

ImageHopNation vs Image Sjovenia

Location: Pavel Wilson Stadium (Capacity: 47,560) in Kingston, Frontenac

HopNation
The Malts seem to be unstoppable at this point as they have managed three wins in three games and are sitting at the top of Group A. They are looking to secure the top spot with another win over Sjovenia, as they have already handed the second place and third place teams their only losses thus far.
Sjovenia
The Sjovenia side is coming off of another loss as they are sitting in the last place spot for the group. They have been out scored 60 to 30 as they can’t seem to match their opponents speed and precision.

Prediction: HopNation 23 – 17 Sjovenia

If the Malts manage to win this next game they should have no trouble staying at the top of Group A and progressing to the next round. Next game for the Malts is vs Hamdrew. Hamdrew is sitting in fourth place with one win and two loses.

Sorry if the top spoilers are a little confusing, but I didn’t want to link back to the former thread as it wouldn’t match the current rescorinated items. We also made it home a day earlier than planned so I’m back to RPing!

Here's the belated cutoff! Sorry for the delay, as I had to watch Winter Classic and cheer for my Leafs!

Tables to come tomorrow.

Group A
TheStonedSurfers 19–0 Polar Islandstates started @ Pavel Wilson Stadium, kicked-off 07:00 because the stadium staff did not see the weather news the night before and forgot to order the closure of the dome roof at 09:30 for original 12:00 start. In order to avoid any cases of injury with icy field in extreme snowfall at late morning at original time the game time was changed too much earlier 07:00.
HopNation 20–0 Sjovenia @ Pavel Wilson Stadium, kicked-off 17:00 because the stadium staff then had to clear out all the snow in the roof of the stadium and turf.
Handrew 3–19 The Knox Valley

Group B
Audioslavia 0–17 Commune-PDTv2
New Koln 3–33 Nassau-Hessen
Unolia 9–6 Lisander

Group C
Azulavai 13–0 Gloriax
Zeneabo 7–40 Free Republics @ Farrer Strathcona Memorial Stadium, kicked-off 21:30 because the plane carrying the marching band crashed right into the Mount Royal right behind the stadium. Miraculously everyone on the marching band(so every passenger) jumped off the building in parachutes and survived safely, only to land in the other side of Montreal. This caused them to arrive 2 hours and 30 minutes later than expected.
Caek of the Wolfen 6–33 New North Aqmuland

Group D
Yttribia 13–32 Zhenovia @ Stade St.Croix, kicked-off 22:30 as opposed to original 19:30 start due to extremely long procedure of clearing heavy accumulation of ice and snow off the roof manually.
Baughmerica 10–7 Emeralds United @ Stade St.Croix, kicked off 3:15, due to the delays caused by what happened on the game before this one(Ytrribia vs. Zhenovia)
German Shepherds 0–16 Anarchist States Of America

Yttribia vs. Zhenovia @ Stade Croix
Zhenovia and Yttribia were both warming up at Stade St. Croix, preparing for the 19:30 start time. However, both teams received word from stadium officials that they needed to vacate the field immediately, and return to the locker rooms. Over the next two hours, workers painstakingly shoveled ice and snow off of the roof. Unfortunately, this took two and a half hours. Finally, after a long wait, it was time to warm up again. Zhenovia was ready to go against a struggling Yttribia squad. Daniel Kapranos trotted out with his squad, but there was an obvious lack of Yttribia fans in the stands. It was a sea of red that erupted when head coach Greg Gilmore trotted out with his squad. After Zhenovia scored a touchdown on their first possession on a beautiful pass by Shawn Winthrop to tight end Edwin Dobson, Sebastien Helms hit field goals on the next four drives from 29, 38, 31, and 42 yards. Meanwhile, Yttribia got on the board with a field goal, making the score 19-3. Trying to run the ball at the end of the first half, Yttribia's back fumbled the handoff at the Yttribia 20, and defensive tackle Zeke Scruggs recovered for Zhenovia. A few plays later, Max Bolton punched it in for a 14-yard run, and a Zhenovia touchdown. At halftime, it was 26-3 Zhenovia. In the third quarter, Yttribia kicked another field goal, but Sebastien Helms hit a pair of field goals from 51 and 35 yards to increase the lead to 32-6. In the fourth quarter, the subs came in for the Zhenovians. Mainly running the ball on offense, they never got much going, but the defense played fairly well other than surrendering a late touchdown. On that play, a receiver got behind safety Cody Sharpe, after he miscommunicated with cornerback Curtis Poole. The final score was 32-13 Zhenovia.

The Republican National Team was preparing for the start of their game against Zeneabo when they saw a plane carrying some Quebecois marching band crash into a building. The band somehow parachuted out of the plane and onto the other side of the city of Montreal. For some reason, the Quebecois decided to delay the start of the game while the band marched across the city.

After waiting for 2 and a half hours on a marching band, the game began with Jaromir Zuyev kicking off. The Republican kick coverage team, frustrated with the long wait, got out of their lanes as everybody chased the returner. Zeneabo's return man cut to the other side of the field and would soon be clear and on his way into the end zone. Zeneabo led 7 to nothing.

At this point, a furious Republican National Team offense took the field, in no mood to continue their coach's play it safe strategy. It started with the very first play when Coach Allen called a run up the middle. Meier Pongor and Drasko Pecar had expected exactly this and Pongor had given his quarterback permission to change the play to something more aggressive. He also didn't appreciate the delay or the kickoff return for a touchdown. Drasko Pecar audibled out of the running play, calling a play-action rollout pass instead that initially looked just like the play that the coach had called. Drasko faked the handoff to his back and rolled out to the left side of the field. Fullback Damion Kirk was in and both of the backs were used as outlets on this play. Finley Davey had lined up on the left side and was running a corner toward the left sideline. Aman Rosado was running an intermediate route across the middle of the field. However, Pecar saw the receiver he wanted to throw to. Isaac Jakobsson had run a go route. Pecar had plenty of time. Jakobsson executed a double move and lost his corner. That left only a safety to cover the best of the Republican receivers. That was a mismatch and it would not be long before Isaac Jakobsson had arrived in the end zone, where he celebrated by putting the ball on the ground, as if he was setting it up for a kickoff. However, it was soon clear what he was doing. The Republican receiver got into position and executed a soccer-style penalty kick before running around the end zone, embracing his teammates and screaming, "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL" like a Sanctii soccer announcer. Once the official finally marked the ball ready for play, Zuyev converted the PAT to tie the game at 7.

However, Coach Allen was not amused by what had gone on. The Republican coach could be heard on television and by the crowd nearby screaming at his quarterback.

Coach Logan Allen - Pecar, What the **** was that ****? I told you to run the ****ing football, not pass it.

Drasko Pecar - Coach, we scored a touchdown.

Coach Allen - I don't care about the ****ing outcome. All I care about is that you ****ing do what you are ****ing told to do. If I tell you to run the ****ing football, you run the ****ing football. I'm the coach of this ****ing football team, not you. You do what the **** I say whenever the **** I tell you to do it and you ****ing like it. This is the ****ing Baptism of God-**** Iron, but the God-**** World Bowl. I am NOT that ****ing clown Rule Theriault and I'm not going to lose control of my ****ing football team. When you're on the God-**** football field, you run the offense I tell you to ****ing run and not your chicken-**** audibles.

The coach continued his profanity-laced tirade and wouldn't let the kicker back onto the field for the kickoff until he was certain that his quarterback would not change plays again. This time, Zuyev's kick was covered quickly and Blair Reed laid a big hit on the returner, who barely held onto the ball. On the very first play from scrimmage for Zeneabo, Alfie Lord would burst through the line and knock the quarterback on his back before he even had time to look downfield. Lord was about to do a sack dance when he realized that he had knocked the ball out. Alfie Lord grabbed it off of the ground. Their running back attempted to bring down the middle linebacker, but he just ran over the back. At this point, he was gone to the end zone, where he performed the dance that he had been about to perform before he was so rudely interrupted by the quarterback's decision to fumble the football. When he finished dancing, the kicker put up another extra point to give the Free Republics a 14 to 7 lead, just a minute or so into the game.

While the scoring would soon calm down and Zeneabo would pick up some yardage to pin the Republicans deep in their own territory, it would not take much longer for the FFR to put this game away beyond all doubt. This time, the Coach called plenty of running plays and the quarterback was more than happy to give the ball to his big running back. Meier Pongor, for that matter, was still furious at what had transpired, and was running like it. Every time he touched the ball, he seemingly ran over at least 1 defender. He didn't care about avoiding contact. Instead, he sought contact. He sought to knock over the defenders and pick up those hard yards in the trenches. After he had carried the ball 10 consecutive times, he had finally reached midfield and the coach agreed to give him a breather. Now, Pecar was told to hand the ball off to Jonas Rasmussen. On the 3rd touch by the backup running, he broke away to the second level and would be brought down by his ankle, inside of the 10 yard line. At this point, Coach Allen sent his big runner back out onto the field. Pongor got the first handoff and ran into a bunch of Zeneabo defenders. With seemingly half the defense on his back, the massive running back was still able to find a way into the end zone. This time, there was no celebration, only another extra point and a 21 to 7 lead for the Free Republics. While Pecar would toss a touchdown pass to Jake Willis, at the goal line on a screen, and Jaromir Zuyev would boot 4 field goals, for all intents and purposes, the game was over at that point. The Free Republics were 4-0. With Caek of the Wolfen being routed by New North Aqmuland, the FFR had now clinched a top-2 finish in the group and only needed to beat Azurlavai on the final day of the group stage to win the group outright and move closer to a Baptism of Iron championship, a championship that had eluded their neighbors at the North Pole.

Vols Hammer Handrew with 5 FGs

after delays due to stadium issues, the Knox Valley Vols were able to run away with a 19-3 victory in Royal Quebec. after the wet weather in the dome (We still don't know how that happened) Manning Peytona took command of the offence and passed for 271 yards and a TD to Patrick Cordelle, on 22-35. The run game also had a good time of it, with both Stephen Travis and Lewis Ja'Mell got 60 yards apiece on 20 and 22 carries for each.

On Defense, a masterful game was played by the DB's of Knox Valley, who swatted down an amazing 5 passes attended for Handrewian receivers. Reggie Black had 3 sacks taking his total for the BOI up to 5. But the real hero of the day was kicker Ben Hamby. Hamby kicked five field goals on six attempts including a 59 yarder right before half time.

This leaves the Vols at 3-1 for the tourny with a game against the Stoned Surfers to go and then playoffs

Malts HandballPart 1 to 4

The last meeting between the League Leaders and the Players Union resulted in nothing being passed, or even voted on for that matter. The two groups were locked in a heated depate over item 6 and the TV contracts being handed over to the teams and stripped from the Players Union control. We have been told the meeting lasted a total of 16 hours with only three 30 minute breaks for food, bathroom, and whatever else could be fit in within that time. The groups are meeting again today, but they have elected to not start until after the match where they Malts will play Hamdrew in the hopes to clinch the top group spot going into elimination rounds. With the lack of voting yesterday the coaching staff has elected not to publish any new names to the roster at this time. Churschmidt told me that he wants a couple more items resolved before moving forward, but they do have a substantial amount of players they will be inviting onto the team once those votes have been made. Looking at the current team, they are playing very well and have, for the most part, destroyed their opponents and the Malt Marauders (what the team is calling its defensive unit) have held their opposition to a total of just 26 points or 6.5 per game. Hopefully they can keep this up going forward and the addition of a few more players will give some of them the needed rest to avoid injuries going forward. Good luck to the Malts and good luck to the League Leaders and Players Union during their meetings today.

Hamdrew
The Hamdrew side is coming off a loss and will be looking to redeem themselves. They are currently sitting with one win and 3 losses. Other than that not much is known about the team itself as it has been shrouded in secrecy.
HopNation
The Malts have once again won and will look to do the same against Hamdrew. If they win again they will be the winner of group A and be moving onto the next round of the BOI, something they are looking forward to very much.

Prediction: Hamdrew 7 – 17 HopNation
