Mareibat Premier Season 2

With the moderate success that was season 1 in the Mareibat Premier, there has been an uptake in attendances and in teams applying to enter the league system for the second season around, especially now that there is the end of season post tournament with teams from Custodemare to contest for UICA spots.

Halholzer United
Manager: Brian Ashgrove
Ground: Oblast Oval, Capacity: 1,100
Team: Ford; Parris, Heal, Eli, Savage; Goff, Bahij, Locke, O'Connor; Harrison, Dev
Preview: The Champions look just as formidable this time around, with many of the winning team from last time around still playing. The key will be in Keira Ford in goal, and captain Roger O'Connor in midfield. Up front, Olgina Harrison is the proven scorer, while new boy Ashrav Dev will use his first season to learn from his older strike partner.
Last Season: 1st, Predicted: 1st

Harmonica Tundra
Manager: Hymnia Shelby
Ground: Level 4, Capacity: 600
Team: Hughton; Baars, Yuko, Hains, Blighty, Perrow; Morriston, Zelley, Parsons, Dunkin; Thorn
Preview: Harmonica have strengthened in the off season, but will they be able to continue in 2nd this season. Jack Morriston and new boy Chris Zelley in midfield will be key, as will their defensive back line.
Last Season: 2nd, Predicted: 3rd

Bellight FC
Manager: Jasper Redrought
Ground: Offcut Ridge, Capacity: 700
Team: Smithe; Narinder, Sorne, Harper; Quinn; Sellick, O'Hara, Dogg, Scott; Scully, Adelardi
Preview: Bellight FC performed average last season, and although they have the enigmatic Vina O'Hara and Somni Adelardi in the team, I predict another average mid-table finish for them this season as well. There is quite a young defensive line, which is the main area for improvement.
Last Season: 3rd, Predicted: 4th

Arbor Lights FC
Manager: Frank Scurn
Ground: The Floater, Capacity: 200
Team: Hashe; Emelina, Fiddick, Drake, Lewis; Gummo, Dennel, Pigg, Vanev; Zino, Ringbill
Preview: Arbor Lights are going to struggle again this season, lets be honest. Charles Emelina in defense and Bill Zino in attack are the only skillful players in an otherwise very average team.
Last Season: 4th, Predicted: 7th

Halholzer Sundays
Manager: Mitchell Davis
Ground: Oblast Oval, Capacity 1,100
Team: Nickolt; Merrick, Ripper, Rattle, Churrios ; Troan; Bodilly, Finnr, Roger; Evans, Brown
Preview: Sundays pitchshare with United, hence the name, as they play their games on Sunday. They have a good strong squad for this season, and therefore expect them to be able to challenge at the top this season.
Last Season: N/A, Predicted: 3rd

Bellight Wanderers
Manager: Nancy Thornthistle
Ground: Waterside Stadium, Capacity: 450
Team: Browne; Blackburn, Rogers, Heal, Iliev, Resse; Tobin, Sellick, Tremorebridge, Jarboe; Herodes
Preview: The Wanderers are the second team from the island of Bellight, and they have a young team which, given time to gel and gain experience in the league, could actually do quite well. Not this season though. Signing Roy Tobin from local rivals Bellight FC was a definite coup in the transfer market though, a fantastic signing.
Last Season: N/A, Predicted: 5th

Scraglet Rovers
Manager: Hewn Jeas
Ground: The Field, Capacity: As many as you can fit round the edge.
Team: Charlestown; Blackbyrd, Self, Welch, Roggeveen; Greene, Vail, Blackbyrd, Washaway; Bal, Craggs
Preview: The Rovers come from one of the smaller outer islands of the main archipelago. The population of Scraglet is quite small, so the Rovers will likely struggle to start off with in this league.
Last Season: N/A, Predicted: 6th

Mercy FC
Manager: Jack Kent
Ground: The Barge, Capacity: 360
Team: Kent; St Mellion, Prowse, Azariah; Dogg, Blue; Rame, Jewell, Noonan, Kestrel; Fiddick
Preview: Mercy FC are other team who's home stadium is a boat. They draw players from all over really, therefore meaning it might be actually slightly easier to play for Mercy than the other teams. Henry "McAllistar" Jewell is a fine head strong captain, and Mikel Azariah is also a decent player. However, differing talent ranges and a lack of cohesiveness may well be this teams undoing this season.
Last Season: N/A, Predicted: 8th

Mare Liga Season 1

Preview

For the first time, the top ruggers from the nations of Custodemare and Mareibat will meet each other in competition on that noble battle ground that we call Rugby League. In this inaugural season, each nation has delegated six teams that will battle for the highest honour, the first Mare Liga title and the qualification for the fifth edition of the IRLCC. They’ll be joined in that international endeavour by the team that ended in second position.

Amongst the twelve sides, two stand out as potential victors. From Custodemarian side, the Navy Blues RFC can be considered as the main favourite. Having won the domestic league thrice in a row now, the rugby league branch of the similarly named football team carries the hopes and expectations of the nation. But they’ll have to fear the opponents from Halholzer Spitfires. The big names from Mareibatian rugby have no other target than the crown and considering their capacity, they won’t be far off. If one of these teams drops points along the route, observers will look towards La Discipline, Bellight RFC, Jesper’s Boys or Darien Scheme to pick them up and steam full speed towards an IRLCC spot.

10 Button Buccaneers 11 2 2 7 99 167 −68 6
11 Marina XIII 11 3 0 8 67 147 −80 6
12 Battalica 11 0 0 11 54 198 −144 0

Two Custodemarian teams are topping the table, the Navy Blues could rectify an early loss against fellow leaders La Discipline and both can celebrate nine victories out of eleven fixtures. The Spitfires are two points behind, but nothing is decided yet.

Matchday 12

Hurler United 6–5 Bellight RFC
Darien Scheme 7–8 Marina XIII
Halholzer Spitfires 25–4 Button Buccaneers
Jesper's Boys 10–7 Long Seirbhis
La Discipline 4–4 Navy Blues RFC
Gentlemen's Club 16–12 Battalica

The fixture of the day was without any doubt the game between La Discipline and the Navy Blues. In the end, both sides balanced each other in this low-scoring game.

Matchday 13

Gentlemen's Club 8–3 Hurler United
Battalica 10–12 La Discipline
Navy Blues RFC 13–4 Jesper's Boys
Long Seirbhis 14–16 Halholzer Spitfires
Button Buccaneers 8–12 Darien Scheme
Marina XIII 2–4 Bellight RFC

The top four still looks the same, it’s clear that they’ll fight out amongst each other who’ll grab the IRLCC spots. Who will it be, Navy Blues, La Discipline, Halholzer Spitfires or Gentlemen’s Club?

Matchday 14

Hurler United 16–16 Marina XIII
Bellight RFC 7–8 Button Buccaneers
Darien Scheme 0–6 Long Seirbhis
Halholzer Spitfires 19–10 Navy Blues RFC
Jesper's Boys 8–13 Battalica

Matchday 15

La Discipline 9–4 Hurler United
Gentlemen's Club 10–4 Jesper's Boys
Battalica 10–25 Halholzer Spitfires
Navy Blues RFC 13–20 Darien Scheme
Long Seirbhis 2–8 Bellight RFC
Button Buccaneers 12–2 Marina XIII

Things just have gone from bad to worse for the Navy Blues. By losing at home against Darien Scheme, the title is further away than ever.

Matchday 16

Hurler United 12–14 Button Buccaneers
Marina XIII 14–8 Long Seirbhis
Bellight RFC 14–8 Navy Blues RFC
Darien Scheme 26–12 Battalica
Halholzer Spitfires 20–0 Gentlemen's Club
Jesper's Boys 20–9 La Discipline

Custodemare ain’t enjoying today’s match-up. While the Blues fall to Bellight RFC, leader La Discipline stumbles at the hands of Jesper’s Boys. The Spitfires take the lead.

Matchday 17

Jesper's Boys 27–4 Hurler United
La Discipline 12–2 Halholzer Spitfires
Gentlemen's Club 0–24 Darien Scheme
Battalica 10–18 Bellight RFC
Navy Blues RFC 20–8 Marina XIII
Long Seirbhis 8–18 Button Buccaneers

But it ain’t over till the overweight woman sings. The Navy Blues can end their bad streak while Halholzer Spitfires stumbles in the grand match of the day on the field of La Discipline.

Matchday 18

Hurler United 15–18 Long Seirbhis
Button Buccaneers 10–18 Navy Blues RFC
Marina XIII 6–12 Battalica
Bellight RFC 28–0 Gentlemen's Club
Darien Scheme 10–8 La Discipline
Halholzer Spitfires 10–6 Jesper's Boys

The top sides struggle to get consistency. The Spitfires only win by a slim margin, but it is La Discipline that weeps the most, they lose against Darien Scheme.

Standings with four games to go

.1 Halholzer Spitfires 18 14 0 4 313 145 +168 28
2 La Discipline 18 13 1 4 224 152 +72 27
3 Navy Blues RFC 18 12 1 5 263 183 +80 25
4 Darien Scheme 18 11 1 6 231 140 +91 23
5 Bellight RFC 18 11 0 7 223 133 +90 22

While Gentlemen’s Club has completely disappeared, it’s clear that Halholzer and La Discipline will fight it out for the title. Or can the Navy Blues make a return?

Matchday 19

Halholzer Spitfires 17–0 Hurler United
Jesper's Boys 18–12 Darien Scheme
La Discipline 14–5 Bellight RFC
Gentlemen's Club 12–12 Marina XIII
Battalica 6–18 Button Buccaneers
Navy Blues RFC 16–10 Long Seirbhis

No changes in the top of the table, the three contenders left for the title all win their game.

Matchday 20

Hurler United 4–22 Navy Blues RFC
Long Seirbhis 8–8 Battalica
Button Buccaneers 8–0 Gentlemen's Club
Marina XIII 4–16 La Discipline
Bellight RFC 22–4 Jesper's Boys
Darien Scheme 2–24 Halholzer Spitfires

And it continues to be like this, all three have a convincing victory today. In the background, Bellight RFC jumps up to the fourth spot.

Matchday 21

Darien Scheme 17–13 Hurler United
Halholzer Spitfires 14–16 Bellight RFC
Jesper's Boys 16–8 Marina XIII
La Discipline 24–12 Button Buccaneers
Gentlemen's Club 14–8 Long Seirbhis
Battalica 2–26 Navy Blues RFC

The unthinkable has happened! The Spitfires suffered their fifth defeat against Bellight. La Discipline leads with only one game left, but they’ll have to win this one.

Matchday 22

Hurler United 2–7 Battalica
Navy Blues RFC 18–18 Gentlemen's Club
Long Seirbhis 10–2 La Discipline
Button Buccaneers 2–22 Jesper's Boys
Marina XIII 0–24 Halholzer Spitfires
Bellight RFC 2–6 Darien Scheme

Tears on the faces of all fans of La Discipline. On the field of Long Seirbhis, the minnow number nine of the competition, they suffer a humiliating defeat. Were the nerves at play today?

Final table

11 Hurler United 22 4 2 16 177 324 −147 10
12 Battalica 22 3 1 18 156 363 −207 7

Halholzer Spitfires can celebrate the first title in the Mare Liga! After a difficult season where they had to chase the lead too often, they managed to overcome all opponents and can look back at an astonishing performance. La Discipline surprised us but fell with the line in sight, they get a IRLCC spot for it. The Navy Blues, in the meanwhile, are left with empty hands while Darien Scheme manages to stay just ahead of three Mareibatian teams.
The poster behind this will either be Mareibat or Custodemare.

THE SECOND SEASON
OF THE
CUSTODEMARE FOOTBALL LEAGUE

The Squadrons

Atletico Armada

Style: Atletico opts for a modern 4-1-4-1, with outside wingers trying to crawl their way through the defense and a midfield usually lauded for their fine passing skills. Despite their technical superiority, they tend to get in trouble from time to time due to limited strength. Key player is de Cuellar, who would be called a number ten if it weren’t for the infiltrations of box-to-box Moncada. Going through the opening season unbeaten and with the top scorer in their ranks, they're once again the favourites. Even in the mixed league, they could be a dangerous side.

The XI: Lopez --- Gomez, de Mendoza, de Segura, Mexia --- Flores de Valdes --- Toledo, Moncada, de Cuellar (C), de Oquendo --- Pimentel

Navy Blues FC

Style: Physically outstanding, the Navy Blues bring a more traditional 4-4-2 on the field where two large towers in attack, last year's goalgetter Drake and new name Benbow, determine the amount of goals scored. When under attack, they’re able to cast a double wall and play kick-and-rush as a form of art. Their supporters usually enjoy the working force and fine tackles displayed by the squad. Their victory against Apoxian Endeavour in the CEdC ensured them that they're able to challenge their nemesis this year, especially with their new central defender Cook, a man who covers a large area with authority.

The XI: Frobisher --- Gibson, Clifford, Cook, Norris --- Monck (C), Chichester, Holmes, Hawkins --- Benbow, Drake

Vereniging OC

Style: Not afraid to choose for the way forward, Vereniging OC is noted by its 4-3-3 build around playmaker and tactical genius de Ruyter. His capacity to score and allow others to score is one of the most bright ones of the federation and he’s the linchpin of the team. Their ‘total football’ implicates that each player can move in for the shot, but this also weakens an already shaky defense. To cover that, they've chosen from now onwards to use their newest addition, Dirk Pomp, as a pure last man behind a three-sailor defense. Curious whether it will allow them to scrounge more than three victories.

The XI: Tromp --- Pomp --- van Galen, Kievit, Hein --- de Bitter, Banckert, D. de Witt --- Crijnssen, de Ruyter (C), C. de Witt

Sporting Marinhos

Style: The Marinhos combine sharp defenders with technically impeccable midfielders. Whilst the back three are known as merciless killers, the ones in front of them bring of the most entertaining football in the federation. While the game circles around Pessanha and de Almeida, the attackers try to get in front of goal as much as possible. This tactic leads, surprisingly, often to defeat. The Marinhos made the most interesting transfer, as they replaced Queiros by Magelhaes. Playing for the Sporting youth once, he was now rotting away at the bench of Atletico Armada and saw this unique opportunity.

The XI: Cao --- Henrico, Cabral, Zarco --- de Silves, Pessanha, de Almeida (C), Alfonso --- Saldanha, Dias, Magelhaes

EF La Royale

Style: If there is one team in the league that is more prone to keep the nil on the board then others, it is probably EF La Royale. With a highly defensive style, combining five defenders with two defensive midfields, they seem to avoid all attack. The wing backs, however, can start a stinging counterattack and the forwards often manage to squeeze a goal in. Most underestimated is, without any doubt, their midfield as both Hoste and d'Estrées can do more than just cover their man. One change for EF this season, Duquesne is replaced by Willaumez, despite the latter being only sixteen years of age.

The XI: de Forbin --- Mursay, Bart, Tourville (C), Willaumez, Château-Renault --- Hoste, d’Estrées, Bougainville --- de Maillé-Brézé, Duguay-Trouin

Koge Boldklub

Style: The eternal underdog in their battles, Koge Boldklub opts to keep the organization tide and make the most of each opportunity. They do such in a 4-5-1 that is laid out on the field as a pyramid, with Adler and Fischer as dangerous attacking midfields. Fortunately, they can count on Gyldenlove in goal, who was chosen as keeper of the season last time around. Attacker Krummedige ain't the quickest, but he did make the winning goal against La Royale last season, a historical moment for the Boldklub.

The XI: Gyldenlove --- Andersen Bille, Wessel (C), Bjelke, Kaas --- Lovendal, Juel, Garde, Adler, Fischer --- Krummedige

La Marina

Style: Admitted for the first time, La Marina has little hope to scrounge many victories. The atmosphere in their cozy stadium, the Circus, is above all and the new addition of attacker Colombo encouraged the FA to grant them a spot in the competition. La Marina usually choses for a clever offside trap and a crowded midfield, resulting in a personal variant of the 3-6-1. Their main weakness might be the average age of the players, as with the exception of Ugolino, Colombo and Zaccaria, all are above thirty years of age.

The XI: Doria (C) --- Dandolo, Visconti, Ugolino --- Zaccaria, Quirini, Pisani, Spinola, Colombo, Assereto --- Morosino

Das Fussballverein

Style: After a few discussions, the FA decided that having less teams in the competition than Mareibat would be an insult to their dignity and the Das Fussballverein received an invitation to participate. Das FV is actually a bigger name to entitle a group of amateur sides, but the invitation from the Custodemarian Association was kindly accepted and a new side was created from the available players, added with a few transfers. They decided to opt for a 4-2-3-1 and their midfield is skillful, to say the least, but there is little hope that they can do more than take a few valuable points of annoyed opponents.

The XI: Wichmann --- Jelckema, Giese, Pining, Beneke --- Widderich, Reis --- Michels, Heinason, Widbold --- Störtebeker

7 Koge Boldklub 7 2 1 4 3 8 −5 7
8 Das Fussballverein 7 0 0 7 4 14 −10 0

Well... We can't say we're surprised to see who is topping the league, but the ease with which Atletico is humiliating their opponents starts to be flustering. De Cuellar is truelly twirling as if there's no tomorrow and the ease with which Moncada and Pimentel find the back of the net is majestic.
Sporting Marinhos surprisingly hold the second spot, although it isn't that much of a surprise for those who have followed them up quite a bit. Their new attacker Magelhaes showed his value already, marking five times and the defense seems less leaky than usual.
If we're discussing non-leaky defenses, one easily ends up in reviewing EF La Royale. Once again, they've been a beacon of unattractive football, but one cannot say it doesn't bring in the necessary results. Bart and Tourville clearly appreciate their new mate in the heart of the last line, Willaumez.
One would've hoped that the Navy Blues could finally challenge the Armada, but nothing of that kind seems to happen. According to insiders, the link between Drake and Benbow is poor and the fans want a new manager. Can they change direction in the remaining seven matchdays?
The Vereeniging once again finds the back of the net with ease, but we truely worry upon their spot in the Pelagi play-offs. Strange, as De Ruyter seems to be the only one around who can challenge de Cuellar as best player on our pitches, but new addition Pomp hasn't found his rhythm yet.
We would've expected La Marina to drift in the cellar of the competition, but our aging friends do remarkably well. Especially their victory against the Vereeniging will be a treasured moment for Spinola, who scored the decisive goal. Maybe they can even compete for the play-offs?
We honestly doubt whether Koge Boldklub can do the same. Gyldenlove might be a splendid goalkeeper, as long as the guys in front of him struggle to bring the ball to the opposite woodwork, there is little use to it. Maybe they'll need to focus more on the attacking, as these tactics have little result.
And in the back... Well, it's no surprise. But not a single point? That's a harsh one for Das Fussballverein. On the upside of things, they've managed to score a few times and, more importantly, they've avoided major blowouts coming their way. Let's say there is room for improvement.

The Second Half

8 Das Fussballverein 14 2 1 11 12 27 −15 7

Nothing to do about them, the Armada became the glorious victor of the second season as well. But it hasn't gone as fluent as it did in the first half. Especially MD9, when Adler amazed them with two goals, has been a painful stain on an otherwise splendid season. Yet, they start the play-offs aiming for the Pelagi title.
Their runners-up, the OC, might have come a long way but their nine out of nine in the final stretch ensured them the second ticket to the play-offs. It certainly helped that the De Witt brothers finally started to find the way to the net and their goal tally comes near the one from the Armada.
Sporting kept on delivering more of the same and are rewarded with a third spot in the ranking. This year has been their typical season, with attractive yet not always efficient football and a good brawl from time to time. They'll certainly be able to use that attitude when facing the pirates.
Well, here's a downer. Navy Blues FC never came near the first place and threw their chances on a post-season out the door with a loss on their home field against La Marina. A new manager has been signed already, according to the rumours and we can expect quite a different squad next time around.
La Royale seemed to trail for the complete season, but with only two fixtures left on the agenda, they came within a point of more. Unfortunately for them, they continued with two slim losses as their coach decided it was clever to replace Duguay-Trouin with another defender, "just in case".
La Marina might not have joined the fight for the play-offs, they can still look back at a reasonably fine season, in which a few new names came forward. Well done, chaps. They even managed to stay ahead of Koge Boldklub, which saw Gyldenlove drop out injured on a vital moment. Their victory over the Armada, however, will suit many a hurt supporter. And what about FV then? They had to wait for nine games, but it only made the victories against La Marina and Koge more enjoyable and their draw against Atletico showed they're capable of more in the future.

THE THIRD SEASON
OF THE
CUSTODEMARE FOOTBALL LEAGUE

The Squadrons

Atletico Armada

Style: They're called 'Los Imbatidos' and damn right, they are. Their aura got reinforced by their performance in the Pelagi play-offs where they not only came out victorious but also were the only ones to pierce the fierce Halholzer defense. With two goals, Moncada stood out that day. The only reason we can think of that might cause trouble in this paradise is the heavy injury from Pimentel during the first CC preliminary round against the Comunas Cougars. Unexperienced de Recalde will have to fill that void in their trademark 4-1-4-1 with key player de Cuellar, who would be called a number ten if it weren’t for the infiltrations of box-to-box Moncada.

The XI: Lopez --- Gomez, de Mendoza, de Segura, Mexia --- Flores de Valdes --- Toledo, Moncada, de Cuellar (C), de Oquendo --- de Recalde

Navy Blues FC

Style: Failing to make the play-offs was a harsh blow for the Blues, who decided to alter their tactical plan into a 4-3-2-1. In that system, there are also a few changes in personnel. Norris, Holmes and Benbow will now be watching the action from the bench and attacker Frank Drake became the new captain. As always, the pressure is high and we expect no less than a spot in the play-offs from the Blues. But will their years of kick-and-rush not prevent them to excell?

The XI: Frobisher --- Gibson, Clifford, Cook, Fenner --- Monck (C), Williams, Hawkins --- Chichester, Devereux --- Drake

Vereniging OC

Style: Still not afraid to choose for the way forward, Vereniging OC remains to be noted by its 4-3-3 build around playmaker and tactical genius de Ruyter. His capacity to score and allow others to score is one of the most bright ones of the federation and he’s the linchpin of the team. Their ‘total football’ got updated with Dirk Pomp acting behind the defense and it certainly didn't serve them bad. Their international adventure might have ended quickly, they build further upon the fundaments they had and if there is one team capable to challenge Armada, it's them.

The XI: Tromp --- Pomp --- van Galen, Kievit, Hein --- Doorman, Banckert, D. de Witt --- Crijnssen, de Ruyter (C), C. de Witt

Sporting Marinhos

Style: You don't need to defend well to get success, the Marinhos prooved after scraping their way to the Pelagi play-offs despite taking no less than twenty goals in the regular competition. The team is build around a backline with razors for tackles, a midfield with great technical capacity and three entertaining attackers. Pessanha and the aging de Almeida remain the key players, although we must say that the addition of Magelhaes in attack might have been that little difference between the top and bottom half of the league.

They'll never be a sexy side, but their new attacker Duperré is rumoured to be one skilled bugger.

The XI: de Forbin --- Mursay, Bart, Tourville (C), Willaumez, Château-Renault --- Hoste, d’Estrées, Bougainville --- de Maillé-Brézé, Duperré

Koge Boldklub

Style: Some important changes in the Boldklub. Rasmus Gyldenlove, the highly esteemed goalie, became the new manager and noting the downfall his team made, especially in games against teams that should be of their level, he decided to alter the side to a 4-4-1-1. Adler and Fischer operate a bit more wide, Krummedige remains the tower in the opposite box and will from this moment onwards be supported by the quick yet unexperienced Huitfeldt. Will it lead them to success? We doubt it.

The XI: Gyldenlove --- Andersen Bille, Wessel (C), Bjelke, Kaas --- Adler, Juel, Garde, Fischer --- Huitfeldt --- Krummedige

La Marina

Style: Despite only debuting last season, it seems that La Marina already found their way into the competition. Their experience, the atmosphere in their Circus and the fine infiltrations by Colombo allowed them to compete with the better teams already. The only worrying thing is that they're slowly leaving the bit with 'experience' and becoming 'old'. No wonder that both Visconti and Assereto already declared they're entering their last season, will La Marina show one last trick or will they realise how badly they need new players?

The XI: Doria (C) --- Dandolo, Visconti, Ugolino --- Zaccaria, Quirini, Pisani, Spinola, Colombo, Assereto --- Morosino

Das Fussballverein

Style: Originally only added to make up numbers -the FA couldn't allow having a smaller league than their Mareibat nemesis- the first round became a disaster for the colourfull Fussballverein. Eight games in, they still hadn't gathered a point, although we must say that they had managed to avoid blow-outs. With a bit more guts in their tactical scheme, they managed to win against both La Marina and Koge and topped off their season with a draw against Armada. Störtebeker celebrating that decisive goal with the corner flag will always be seen as one of the historical moments of that season.

The XI: Wichmann --- Jelckema, Giese, Diefer, Beneke --- Widderich, Salzhorst --- Michels, Heinason, Widbold --- Störtebeker

UICA Football

Champion's Cup

First Preliminary Round
Atletico Armada - Comunas Cougars 4-3
Comunas Cougars - Atletico Armada 2-3

Facing a Legalese side never is a present and the Cougars certainly weren't. Nonetheless, Armada managed to convince at home, leading with three goals to nil half-way. Especially Pimentel managed to shine there. In the second half, the Cougars with attacker Jake Detzler started to close the gap, but a late goal by de Cuellar allowed them a lead before making the transfer to Legalese. Once again, the fans saw a spectacle, with both teams taking the lead once. Eventually, a goal by Moncada created the decisive gap, the only disappointment was a heavy injury for Pimentel who fell in a nasty fashion after what seemed to be a calm duel.

Second Preliminary Round
RGS Athletic - Atletico Armada 3-1
Atletico Armada - RGS Athletic 1-2

The campaign of Armada in the Champions' Cup ended on the field of RGS Athletic, a side from Eastfield Lodge. In the away game, it immediately became clear that Atletico couldn't compete with their opponents. A late goal by de Oquendo following a corner raised the hopes a little bit, but in their own Estadio Principal, it immediately became clear who had the upper hand in this confrontation. De Cuellar could score another one, but the Champions' Cup dream was over.

Globe Cup

Second Preliminary Round
Real Tiagosan - Vereeniging OC 2-1
Vereeniging OC - Real Tiagosan 1-2

Much anticipated, the run from the OC ended with a bang. Real already turned out to be the superior side in their Estadio de una bandada de Aguilas and the Vereeniging especially struggled with Jeremy Datu, who marked twice. A late goal from Hein reopened the opportunities and at home, a turnaround even seemed possible when de Witt answered the early opening goal from Dargantes. But eventually, it was Leynes who determined the final score, a short campaign for Vereeniging who simply met a better opponent in the team from the Royal Barangay.

Play-off Round
Atletico Armada - 3 Tower 5-3
3 Tower - Atletico Armada 2-2

Spectacle all around in the opening game of this duel between the champion of Pelagi and the team from Thaulandia. After a moderate first half, in which both teams found the way to the net once, it seemed to be the tower people who would walk away with it. With twenty-five minutes left on the clock, Armada was facing a two-goal defeat. A marvellous performance by de Cuellar, scoring once and assisting goals to Flores, Toledo and de Recalde, ensured a close second game, in which Armada took the lead twice and never allowed their opponent to get their foot in.

Qualification Round
Issington - Atletico Armada 2-0
Atletico Armada - Issington 1-0

Nothing to do about Issington, who dominated in Dwile Stadium with a very strong Licentian Danny Leighton who kept his cool twice when eye in eye with Lopez. A valuable victory for Issington FC, as they appeared to have lost their sea legs when facing Armada in the Estadio Principal. Armada could dominate possession, but the quick counterattacks from Issington, amongst which a kick against the post from Delvecchio, made it very difficult for Armada. A late penalty, after a handsball from Viking, allowed Armada a goal, but the second one didn't came rolling out of the closet.

Mareibat Premier Season 3 - Review

With a third season of the MP completed, the title stays within Halzholzer, although it shuffles it's way across town to Sundays, who climb from 6th last season to a domestic title this time around. Harmonica Tundra continue in their favourite place - 2nd - after their third finish there in three seasons. Interesting to watch is the decline of the previously unstoppable Halholzer United, who fall to 4th, dropping out of the UICA play-offs entirely. Let's look at the full league table:

Pld W D L GF GA GD Pts
1 Halholzer Sundays 14 8 3 3 23 18 +5 27 - UICA Play-offs
2 Harmonica Tundra 14 6 5 3 16 8 +8 23 - UICA Play-offs
3 Bellight FC 14 6 2 6 22 21 +1 20 - UICA Play-offs

4 Halholzer United 14 4 7 3 16 10 +6 19
5 Bellight Wanderers 14 5 4 5 18 16 +2 19
6 Arbor Lights FC 14 4 5 5 9 14 −5 17

7 Koge Boldklub 14 3 3 8 17 24 −7 12
8 Das Fussballverein 14 2 3 9 14 29 −15 9

From the first moment onwards, Vereeniging OC and Atletico Armada went to lead the pack, no one else really stood a chance. When Armada kept the three points at home in their direct duel on MD eleven, it seemed as if the Armada would score a third cup in a row. But while the Vereeniging kept up a high pace, Atletico dropped points in the Circus of La Marina. During their ultimate game facing eternal rival Sporting Marinhos, they suffered a painful 2-1 defeat. In the meanwhile, Vereeniging got a slim victory at home against La Marina, enough to celebrate their first title. In the background, the Navy Blues joined the two dominators of the competition for the Pelagi Play-Offs, snooping past La Marina on the last day of the regular competition.

Halholzer United continue their dominance of the league - returning to take their 3rd league title in style with a four point margin over Bellight Wanderers in second. Last years winners Halholzer Sundays fall to second, whilst Harmonica Tundra can only finish fourth - the first season they've finished anywhere else other than second and therefore not in the Pelagi Play-off Spots.

OOC: This nation is going to be largely reinvented as I now have time to properly enter it into things, not just UICA competitions and such.

In the year M5, the nation of Mareibat crumbled under the lack of organised structures, the lack of understanding and development within the "nation", the word nation being used in the loosest way possible in this sense. It wasn't so much a civil war, no one was really fighting over anything, however, it was clear to many people that they could no longer live there.

So much like the founding of the nation, there was a great exodus of people from the collection of boats and islands which made up Mareibat, and they began to travel from the unknown area of Srsp until they found somewhere to settle. They came upon the region of Rushmore, a plentiful land, and ended up settling in a small area north of Eura on the continent of Terranea. Here, people swarmed, creating a network of small villages and towns in various bays and headlands where they settled.

Glad to be part of the land now, but still very much retaining their coastal heritage, a new, more democratic nation was slowly set up. Jhon Cossack, the new leader of Mareibat was very much keen to have sport to put people's mind off the hard tasks they faced, and therefore, with the nation still being set up, the Mareibat Premier was refounded, with the first season set up for the year M7.

Some of the clubs would be refounded, indeed with many of the same personnel, although there was also a growth and change in the number of clubs, with the league surely likely to expand as time went on.

Clubs Participating in Season 5 of the Mareibat Premier
