Disappointing Draw for Maineiacs:
The Tie-Dyeds notched their second straight draw, ending even with Great Britannia, 2-2. Maineiacs never led, with Great Britannia scoring first in the 22nd minute, and taking a 1-0 lead into the half. Sarah Thomas scored the equalizer in the 47th minute, only to see Great Britannia pull ahead again 2 minutes later. We were spared a humiliating defeat by the last place team in the 81st minute when substitute forward Fred Lawrence, making his first appearance of the tournament, headed a corner kick from Dieter Müeller. The already anemic Maineiacs offense was even weaker in today's match, as our two goals were our only shots on goal. Momentum for most of the game rested squarely with our opponents. After the match, interim team manager Linda McDillon said "Obviously, we're disappointed not to win. We need to work on creating more chances, instead of always being on the defensive. I will likely be making stylistic changes for upcoming matches." Here are the tables for Group 15 after Game Day 9:
