“One Big Island; One Big World Cup.”

NEWMANISTAN - THE BABBAGE ISLANDS

It isn’t just a slogan. This is indeed, “One Big World Cup.” A record 137 nations are in total, competing for World Cup glory, with one nation proudly hoisting the 49th World Cup trophy. When we last saw the trophy, it was won by The Holy Empire, the first ever such victory for the Dreamed Realm despite what must have seen like a million attempts. Spirits may play a role again this time around as the final will be decided on the sacred land of the Tundra Falls Proving Grounds.

Now it’s time to declare your roster to the world. Whether they are human, ursine, or from another dimension, they are all welcome here.

As you post your roster, please remember to mention your style modifier. This can range from +3 to -3, depending on how offensive or defensive you would prefer your team to play. (+3 is max offense).

You’ll also want to include this, your friendly RP permissions box.
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:

Choose my goalscorers Y/N
Godmod scoring events Y/N
RP injuries to my players Y/N
Godmod injuries to my players Y/N
Hand out yellow cards to my players Y/N
Hand out red cards to my players Y/N
Godmod other events Y/N

If there’s more you want to tell us, then go right ahead. The target start date for the World Cup’s Pre-qual friendlies is December 2nd. But let's get to know the players now!
Six-time World Baseball Classic Champions

The Tyrrinian National Football Team
Tyrrin is a nation of great military tradition, and all of the team’s members serve in the armed forces for part of the year, as required by law for able-bodied citizens. This makes them highly disciplined and cohesive, even in the toughest of situations. However, they will have to work on not becoming to overconfident against lesser opponents. Their coach, Gen. Graig Montcalve, is also a senior advisor to the Emperor, and after two World Cup runs, he knows his way around the game.

Home Stadium: Rememberance Park, Tyrrin (city)
Capacity: 70,000
Rememberance Park is the home stadium of Tyrrin's top club team, Tyrrin Royale. It is located just north of downtown Tyrrin.

Kits (made by X-Spordiga in Somewhereistonia):
ImageImage

Starters have their positions next to their names.

Goalkeepers
Angus Aulay GK
Club: Iclyrri Icebirds
7’2” 214
Aulay was the main reason that the Icebirds only allowed seven goals last season (all to Tyrrin). Not only is he outrageously tall, but he also understands the finer points of goalkeeping as well. He was offered a contract by Cafundeu in the offseason, but the club decided to keep him around. He serves with the fourth Foot Division.

Ainsley Emir
Club: Mertag F.C.
6’5” 195
Emir is one of the foremost goalkeepers in Tyrrin, and he frequently makes acrobatic saves, which are followed by screams of joy in celebration. Some controversy remains as to why he is not starting for the national team, which may be because of a disagreement between his father and General Montcalve during their time in the army. He serves with the 8th Air Cavalry.

Defenders
Tjaard Fedde CD
Club: Tyrrin Royale
6’4” 180
Fedde is an incredibly smart defender. He is able to spot plays developing, and he puts himself in a perfect position to make a stop. He has developed a reputation for playing his best against the toughest of opponents. Fedde needs to step up his game for this World Cup, as he has been slacking off of late, and may even lose his starting job on Tyrrin Royale. He is a native of Foroch, and he serves with the 5th Armored Division.

Neil Colin CD
Club: Iclyrri Icebirds
7’0” 228
Colin is another reason for the Icebird’s outstanding defense. His size makes him an imposing presence in the backfield. He will also move forward on corner kicks for an aerial advantage. He comes from the upper-class north district of Tyrrin, and his father was a general. He had a few problems during qualifications, and he may be removed from the starting lineup in the next World Cup. He served with the 17th Ground Battery.

Yavuz Aonghas RD
Club: Hainac
6’3” 168
Aonghas is a strong player on the right, and he excels at shutting down crosses. He plays for Hainac in Unreal229 after a successful domestic season. His father was killed when Mount Oklo erupted when he was young. He serves in the 4th Transport Division.

Scott Pierrick LD
Club: Foroch Raiders
5’11” 162
Pierrick is the son of the famous actress Lea Pierrick, who died when he was a small child. He grew up in the moviemaking district of Coranto. Thus, the media heavily covers him, and his accomplishments on the field are generally overlooked. He recently won a starting job over Erol, who has not played well of late. He serves in the 6th Ground Battery.

Greg Erol
Club: Coranto F.C.
6’3” 166
As well as an excellent defender, Erol is very fast, and will commonly run up the sidelines to join an attack. However, his play has slipped of late, and he lost his starting spot. His parents were farmers on the Lossarach Plains. He serves in the 12th Foot Division.

Marty Ruaridh
Club: Kowa Foresters
6’7” 192
Ruaridh is recovering from yet another combat wound in the jungles of Whowadda, but he is expected to make a full recovery by the time of the Baptism of Fire. He is very accident prone it would seem. He served in the 21st Air Cavalry.

Midfielders
Alasdair Savas LCDM
Club: Tyrrin Royale
6’5” 175
Savas organizes the midfield for Tyrrin, and has the calm demeanor of a Tyrrinian colonel, which he is in the 3rd Foot Division. It is his job to make sure they win the midfield battle. He continued to demonstrate his talent and experience during qualifications.

Suleiman Donnchadh RCDM
Club: Cruzeiro do Sul
6’2” 165
Donnchadh is an excellent defender, and will often be put on the other team’s best midfielder. He also has a lethal left foot from long range. He now plays in Cafundeu for Cruzeiro do Sul. Both Donnchadhs grew up in Racaw, where they played football in the dusty streets under the hot desert sun.

Wayne Ata LWM
Club: Oclia Mariners
6’6” 172
Ata is a brilliant ball handler, which he demonstrates as he streaks down the sidelines. At 36, he is one of the most experienced Tyrrinian players. He earned a medal of valor with the 13th Air Cavalry for bravery in combat in Terthia.

Lorenz Raimondo CAM
Club: Hainac
5’11” 174
Raimondo is a fantastic dribbler, as he will display frequently. He is also excellent at delivering the long ball into the box. He became the setup man for Willem during qualifications in the Cup. He is a very vocal member of the team, and he serves with the 14th Air Cavalry.

Alan Fionnlagh RWM
Club: Tyrrin Royale
6’3” 170
Fionnlagh is responsible for setting up Willem on Royale, so he is expected to do the same on the national team. He communicates excellently with Tyrrin’s star striker. However, he has been off form lately, so expect Fortunado to come in at some point for him, and maybe even take the starting job. He served with the 11th Transport Division.

Allan Donnchadh
Club: Mertag F.C.
5’10” 158
The second Donnchadh often links up with his brother to control the midfield while they play for the national team. However, he lost his starting job recently. Both the Donnchadhs serve with the 18th Foot Division.

Greg Elias
Club: Coranto F.C.
5’9” 152
Elias is usually brought on late in games because of his speed and versatility in the midfield. He is also a superb penalty taker. He serves with the 2nd Foot Division.

Ludwig Yasen
Club: Foroch Raiders
6’9” 202
Yasen has now established himself on the international team, and he comes from the harsh north of Iclyrri. He is a rising star for the Raiders, and led them in scoring last season. He played well off the bench for Tyrrin in the 48th World Cup. He serves with the 8th Armored Division.

Rio Fortunado
Club: Racaw FC
6'4" 201
Fortunado is a very talented midfielder, especially with the ball at his feet. He may end up starting in place of Fionnlagh by the end of the tournament, if Fionnlagh can't hold form. Fortuando plays with Racaw, and serves with the 17th Air Cavalry. He is looking to transfer to a foreign club after the World Cup.

Strikers
Michael Willem S (Captain)
Club: Tyrrin Royale
6’5” 191
Willem broke every record in the books over his remarkably short career, averaging nearly five goals per game. His amazing ball handling skills are matched only by his finishing ability, with his feet or his head. He has a knack for avoiding defenders, even when they are deliberately trying to foul him, and he has never been seriously injured. Willem was Tyrrin’s top goal scorer in the last two world cups, with 56 international goals, and he looks to continue his success again. He serves with the 20th Air Cavalry.

Hugh Folami
6’2” 187
Club: Lok Kawi
Folami is an experienced striker, who now has experience in foreign football as well. He is very good fundamentally, but doesn't have the flair of some of the other Tyrrinian strikers. This doesn't stop him from netting his share of goals. He is a captain in the 3rd Transport Division.

Bernard Brecht
Club: Iclyrri Icebirds
6’1” 164
Brecht is another young talent, and he led his team in goals. Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean much, because the Icebirds only ever play defense. He is close to his full potential for the Icebirds, and showed that he is maturing in his ability. If Tyrrin is starting to run the score up, he will be the one who comes on to prevent an injury to Willem. He serves in the 15th Transport Division.

-------------------Willem
-----------------Raimondo
Ata--------------------------------Fionnlagh
---------Savas----------S. Donnchadh

Sarzonia Stars

Manager: Franz Braddock (84 years old)
The Cafundelense World Cup Hall of Fame manager enters his third World Cup as Stars manager. Despite critics projections that he'd be one and done as manager, he has taken the Stars to three consecutive World Cup finals appearances and a shock fourth place finish.
Associate Manager/Manager-In-Waiting: James Potherington (52)
The Isselmerian-Nielander former manager of the Ernes now takes over as the associate manager and manager-in-waiting for the Stars. He guided Isselmere-Nieland to a World Cup finals appearance in the team's second World Cup qualifying campaign, but fell short in the team's third. His team also played to a 1-1-1 record against the Stars in the three editions of The Friendly War.
Assistant Manager: Diogo Avarel (42)
[i]Braddock's youthful apprentice joined the Cafundelense legend as one of two assistant managers, much to the chagrin of the Cafundelense football organisation. He remained after the other assistant, Ganz Ijak, left to become manager at The Babbage Islands.

Goalkeeping Coach: Horace Sandt (53)
Sandt, the lone holdover from the previous Stars managerial staff, has a storied history for the Sarzonian national team. He was the starting goalkeeper who led the Stars to the World Cup XXII title. During his tenure with the Stars, the team advanced to four consecutive semifinals, becoming just the third team to do so behind Rejistania and Eauz.

Squad Listing
(Note: Starters in BOLD. Team plays a 3-5-2 alignment with a plus-1 modifier.)

No. Name Position Height Weight
1 Cody Taylor GK 6'1" 175 pounds
Taylor, 26, signed with Porto Lacruz of Cafundéu's national league after leading the Woodstock Wild to a Sarzonian Football Confederation championship. He finished the year 18-5-1 with a 1.26 goals against average. He is known for having catlike reflexes and has played as a midfielder for a recreation league side.

2 Ben Davis D 5'10" 160 pounds
Davis, 33, is the former Stars captain. He previously served in that role for the Portland Timbers, whom he led to a Sarzonian Football Confederation championship. He prides himself on being able to shut down the opponent's most dangerous forward with combination of speed and smarts. Signed a contract with Atlético Jutense in Cafundéu's national league.

3 Mark Cundiff M 5'11, 175 pounds
Rugged, but clean, he often serves in a defensive midfield role but can also play the offensive midfielder role if called upon. His versatility with the Woodstock Wild earned him the call up to the big club.

4 George Maxwell D 6'5 225 pounds
Dubbed "the brick wall," Maxwell uses size to be a disruptive element as a defensive player. He's also used in an effort to score off headers and the 28-year-old picked up eight goals in 27 matches that way.

5 Tim Rodney M 5'9 150 pounds
Rodney, 31, plays bigger than his height. On the New Jerusalem Nobles, he plays a rugged fullback when the team plays a 3-5-2, but played as a defensive midfielder in a 4-4-2 alignment when the team suffered several injuries among its defensive players. With Sarzonia adopting a more attack-oriented team, he shifts up to play midfield.

6 George Morrison M 6'2 185 pounds
Drafted out of Joe Gibbs University, Morrison, 25, played for the Nicksia Knights in the SFC until he signed with KT Hotspur in Candelaria and Marquez. He is not a particularly pacey player, but has a cannon of a left leg. He will likely be substituted for a player with more flair if the Stars are trailing a match.

7 Tyler McIntosh D 5'11 165 pounds
The young McIntosh (24 years old) signed a contract with the Nicksia Knights and helped the team advance to the Sarzonian Football Confederation playoffs for the first time since 2005. He has improved by leaps and bounds under former Stars striker Anton Gregor, who manages in Nicksia.

8 Laura Grover M 5'6 125 pounds
Grover, 26, dispelled any questions about whether a woman should start for the Stars by drawing comparisons to Jenna Raven, a star player for both Sarzonia's men's and women's World Cup sides. She has strong scoring touch, notching 11 goals in 27 matches for the Woodstock Justice in Sarzonia's women's league. Her coach? You guessed it, Jenna Raven.

9 Ettore Salivani, Jr. M 5'10 155 pounds
The son of former Sarzonia national team standout and Pacitalian emigre Ettore Salivani, the younger Salivani retains his father's flair, but also picked up on his mother's preternatural calm. He also has outstanding ball skill and is surprisingly adept as a defensive player. Plays for América in Cafundéu's national league. Turned 26 the day before World Cup XLV.

10 Zack Wilson F 6'0 213 pounds
The 25-year-old son of Brian Wilson developed some of his father's flair for the dramatic and led the SFC in goal scoring with 28 goals for the Portland Timbers. Pacey player who spends a lot of time in the weight room. Very difficult for smaller defenders to bring down.

11 Ted Philyaw D 5'11 145 pounds
Philyaw, 32, started for the Sarzonian national team during its last international competition (AOCAF XIX), helping lead the team to a shock second round appearance. Philyaw was recently named the captain of the Saugerties Snakes, owing to his leadership qualities. He's not the fleetest of foot, relying on positioning and anticipating opposing defenders' moves.

12 Colleen Barnaby D 5'8", 135 pounds
Barnaby is the second female representing the Sarzonian Football League, Sarzonia's women's professional league. She plays for the Portland Pride, which developed an intense rivalry with the Woodstock Justice. She has some trouble with more physical midfielders and forwards, but usually has the savvy to avoid problems. She's 30 years old.

13 Clayton Bocanegro M 6'1", 180 pounds
Bocanegro, 30, was a reserve for the Stars during AOCAF XIX and starts here. He is deft with the ball and serves as a playmaking midfielder for the Portland Timbers. He's also the designated corner and free kick taker with an educated right boot.

14 Carletta Ryan D 5'7 135 pounds
By far the most physical player in Sarzonian women's football, the 27-year-old has no problems mixing it up with women or men. Set a women's league record for most yellow cards and red cards in one season. Even former senior national team goon Spencer Hicks wouldn't mess with her.

15 Brad Tremblay M 5'9 162 pounds
Tremblay turned 25 earlier in the year. He has had trouble sticking with a team in the SFC before finally finding a home with the Portland Timbers. He is arguably the fastest player on the Stars and fires the hardest shot on the team, but his shot is not all that accurate.

16 Ben Crosley D 5'11" 170 pounds
The 31-year-old was also a reserve on Sarzonia's last competitive national side but will start here. He has had seven seasons of experience with the Tacoma Tigers and is a strong man-marker on the right side. His best asset is speed, though he's also learning the savvy that will help once his speed begins to go.

17 Matt Lynch F 6'3", 205 pounds
The 30-year-old was the top scorer for the Sarzonian national team during its AOCAF XIX appearance. His tall, lithe frame makes him an inviting target for more aggressive players who invariably find out he can take and dish out punishment. Recently signed a contract with A.F.F. in Cafundéu. Becomes team captain with the abdication of Davis.

18 Pete Weston M 5'10", 165 pounds
Weston, 23 brings a lot of energy and a great work rate to the table for the Saugerties Snakes. He is easily the hardest working player on the team. Brian Wilson intends to use Weston to provide a spark off the players' bench in the event the team plays lethargically.

19 Dave Spencer D 6'5", 225 pounds
Big and brawny, Spencer also plays a rather physical style that can knock midfielders and forwards off their game. Added to the squad in an effort to address The Holy Empire's physical style of play from the previous World Cup.

20 Colin Rudolph M 6'2", 215 pounds
A blend of physicality and skill gave Rudolph a tryout with the team. He earned it through his chemistry with other players on the squad. Was added to the squad in an effort to provide it with more depth players after an exhausting run through to the World Cup semifinals.

22 Kelvin Russell GK 5'11", 170 pounds
Yet another player from the AOCAF XIX squad, Russell is the number two goalkeeper for this squad. The 30-year-old nearly left the squad in a snit when he lost the job to Cody Taylor, but Brian Wilson and Sandt both convinced him that he would get a chance to play in the World Cup. He is known more for reading shots and positioning than his athleticism.

23 Dennis Crandall F 6'2", 200 pounds
The 21-year-old's sheer speed and elusiveness can surprise many defenders, and often does when he plays with the Nicksia Knights. His touch is improving rather steadily. In the event of an injury to Lynch or Wilson, he'll enter the starting 11.

24 Johan Lester F 6'5", 230 pounds
A target player, plain and simple, the 28-year-old does well with scoring on rebounds and crosses, but would not do well as a withdrawn forward. Usually brought in as a bench player. Would hamper Sarzonia's offensive system in the event he has to play a full 90 minutes.

27 Joel A'Hearn GK 6'2" 215 pounds
At 22 years old, A'Hearn is projected as a future starting goalkeeper for Sarzonia. He's being brought in to provide insurance if either Taylor or Russell go down, and to experience international play first hand.

Manager - Erik Larsson - The third World Cup qualification attempt looms for Larsson and his Bears team. After a
good debut in World Cup 47 and a last-minute goal eliminated them from qualifying for World Cup 48, Larsson has
been riding the laurels of these achievements. A poor showing in the Cup of Harmony, where the team finished well
out of qualification to get past even the group stages, and the team showed a lack of focus and intensity when it
came to the Cup of Harmony. Of course, the group draw will determine expectations for the Bears, but results may be
necessary for Larsson to continue on with the national side after World Cup 49 qualification.

Nation: Somewhereistonia
Team Nickname: Eagles
Style Modifier: +3
Formation: 4-1-3-2
Home stadium: Spektakl-3-Arena Due to recent circumstances (a war to be precise) home games are currently to be played in Nethertopia.
Temporary 'home' stadiums are:
Briangia, Peregrinus City
Capacity: 75,384
Falcon Stadium, Peregrinus City
Capacity: 51,300

Briangia is seen as a lucky stadium for the Eagles, with their only previous game there being the 6-1 mauling of Sargossa.

Kit:
ImageKeeper Kit Image2nd Keeper Kit

Image1st Kit Image2nd Kit Image3rd Kit

Manager: Sir George Douglas (That crazy guy from Dariusville, you know, pink ponies? Yer HIM.)
Assistant Manager: Benjamin Oliveira (Continues to coach A.F.F. of Cafundeu despite his new position. A top quality manager).
Head Physio: Gustav Tolving (Owner of a sports physio centre outside Qasarian, he has shown a brilliant ability to bring players back from injury sooner than expected).

Straight from their first world cup, and a massive 6-1 victory over Sargossa in the Copa Rushmori final, the successful Somewhereistonian squad are now looking to get up another rung on the ladder of world cup success.

Team roster. Positions shown within [square brackets]

First 11
1. Svante Klug, 31 [GK]. Klug has been a member of the Dinamo Karrkiv squad from age 16 and has already established himself as one of the best keepers in the Meistriliiga (the first division).
2. Justinas Volrat, 33 [LB]. CF America Chuuoushi of Dancougar is his club and he appears to be quite successful there. Whilst this may be Volrat's last chance to play in the world cup, he still remains a strong full back and a threat on the overlap.*
3. Ulriks Hellat, 25 [DF]. The Sparta defender has become a great squad player and is hoping to succeed in the long term at the top club.
4.Kasper Grinius, 28 [RCB]. Grinius has finally moved up to become a first choice player, with Lurich having retired from international football. He has shown strength and determination, even when let down by his other defenders.
5. Romualdas Sokk, 28 [RB]. The Qasarian Sparta right-back has had another consistent season and will hope to again replicate this at the world cup.
6. Vladimir Paposki, 35 [DMF]. The solid Dinamo Karrakiv player has repeatedly helped to make sure they are title contenders by bolstering the defence. A strong tackler, he has a number of cards to his name; however he almost always wins the ball.*
7. Vincas Taska, 26 [RMF]. The young star of the Dinamo team, voted MIP for 2 seasons running. Quick of the mark and able to cross dangerously, he can trouble even the most experience LB.
8. Vytautas Törk [VC], 27 [MF]. A long term bench warmer for the national team, with Keres' fitness not as high as it once was, Törk gained a first team place during the world cup qualifiers, with Keres usually either being subbed off or on the the dangerous midfielder. The $20m rated Royal Khaldoon midfielder is a key part of this teams attack.
9. Petras Zoltoks, 28 [CF]. The young Nowy Orpington striker has previously struggled to gain a place in the national team, this was before his move to Quintessence of Dust, where he has made a great impression.
11. Mart Kusnets, 25 [SS]. The talented striker has shown himself to be something of an enigma is the Empire charity cup, scoring in the first 3 games, including an incredible winner against Secristan. Qasarian Sparta have thus far managed to keep the striker in the wave of bids from other local clubs. Kusnets now has a strong reputation of scoring amazing goals, just when they are needed.
13. Vladimir Nolakk [C], 29 [LMF]. The hardworking Bradford United midfielder has been marked as the future national captain and champion. He can play in most areas of midfield. As another of the nations foreign based players, he has received some criticism from national fans.

Subs:

10. Ąžuolas Antanas, 24 [Wing]. The ISC Rig captain was a late addition to the squad. Following the club's convincing promotion to the Meistrliiga he has begun to be scouted by many top sides in the division. Although he may only get limited appearances, his addition to the squad will give Somewhereistonia and extra threat of the bench. Something that Alekna did not quite seem to have.
12. Karela Hanaterisana, 25 [GK]. A former Norwellian, being non-genderqueer he was subject to some abuse in his home country, since his move to Somewhereistonia at the age of 17, he has enjoyed high levels of success at Ventspils Redwings and after gaining citizenship has finally won selection to the national squad.
14. Kazys Xentolov, 23 [Fwd]. He recently scored a record 44 goals for Metalurgs in one season of the Meistrliiga. A huge threat to any team. Xentolov was instrumental in winning the title in the season leading up to this world cup.
15. Kazys Kadleks [VC], 34 [LCB]. Strong centre-back who is strong in the air. Kadleks has long been a first choice player for the national side, but with his age and looming retirement, he has begun to be phased out.*
16. Alexis Birsa, 22 SS/SMF [Atlantas Klaipaada]. The player was snapped up by Atlantas from Hawks on his 16th birthday for an incredible $11m, showing just how much potential Birsa has. Two years on, he has yet to hold down an international place; having lacked consistency in the league although this is clearly becoming more threatening.
17. Jurgis Ģipslis, 31 FB [Radyukevich]. After leaving Vetra Karrakiv for Radyukevich of Candelaria And Marquez, the sturdy full-back has struggled to make a name for himself, and looks to be on the move again in the near future.
18. Povilas Drozdova, 32 Wing [Qasarian Sparta]. A fast-paced player, he is seen as a crucial part of the winning Qasarian Sparta team several years ago, he has impressed as a substitute in previous national games, and is now a regular reserve.*
19. Justinas Kaiser MF 27 [Olympia Gladiators (NEW)] - Kaiser has had mixed success in his career, until his move away to Newmanistan he was on the fringes of the national squad, now with Keres having retired, he has a place.
20. Jüri Pihl CB 23 [Qasarian Sparta] - Pihl is expected to work well with his club team mate Hellat at the back in the easier games, with the pair having played most of the cup matches together.
21. Oleksandr Pääbo Wing 27 [Dinamo Karrakiv] - Whilst not achieving the success of Taska, Pääbo is a tough player to mark and can be deadly coming off the bench.
22. Toomas Uexküll, 27 DMF [Ventspils Redwings]. A sturdy holding player for the redwings, he has played a large part in Ventspils recent successes. A successful Di Bradini Cup has helped him win a place in the world cup squad. He will be looking to replace Paposki as the first choice defensive midfielder in time for the world cup should the Eagles get there.
23. Klass Oim, 28 [GK]. Hey, this guy is still playing in Cafundeu, funny that. I think he moved somewhere else, might have to check that.

*Players set to retire at the end of this world cup cycle.

The Babbage Islands World Cup 49 Roster
(Edited post-qualifying to update records)

Nicknames: Bumblebees, Islanders
Colours: Yellow and black

Manager: Ganz Ijak (record with TBI: 0-1-3)
Style: +2.5
Formation: 4-4-2

Starting lineup

No Player Age Pos Club Caps/Goals
1 Nathan Taylor 37 K Four Towers 3/0
2 Whitney Anderson 28 D Portsmouth Whalers (Newmanistan) 26/2
3 Wilhelm Freudigmann 29 D Metropolitano (Cafundéu) 37/1
4 Phyllis Reeves 24 D Parisian 4/1
5 Ed Sims 28 D Bravia Motors (Swartaz) 40/1
6 Pierre Rouleau 30 M Stroudsburg Panthers (Newmanistan) 39/3
7 Orson Cook 20 M América (Cafundéu) 39/5
8 Tegan Nash 23 M Dover City 22/4
9 Debbie Sherman 18 F Bloomfield National 19/6
10 Magnus Svoboda 27 F Dover City 45/21
11 Patty Heatherly 21 M Bloomfield National 26/6

Keeper: Nathan Taylor, though new to the national team, is in his 20th season as a professional. He replaces the injured Averill Robinson, who captained the side when Magnus Svoboda was player-coach. Parisian keeper Andre Trudeau may see more action depending on how the shakedown friendlies proceed.

Defenders: The defending corps of Anderson, Freudigmann, and Sims are all veterans used to playing together for the Bumblebees despite their lucrative foreign contracts. Freudigmann in particular has a reputation for aggressive, in-your-face play. So does national team newcomer Phyllis Reeves, who will be the fourth defender playing forward almost like an extra midfielder. Should Reeves not work out or someone get hurt, Wesley Pidgeon has international experience and should slot right in.

Midfielders: This edition of the Bumblebees may rise or fall in the midfield. Pierre Rouleau is the legendary veteran, former captain of Parisian and the first Bumblebee ever to sign with a foreign squad. It's hard to imagine that Orson Cook and Patty Heatherly on the wings are just age 20 and 21, as they have been speedy mainstays of the Babbage attack ever since they were first paired. And whilst Magnus Svoboda is often termed the heart of this eleven, blogger and playmaker Tegan Nash has steadily become its soul. Nash is widely expected to succeed to the captaincy upon Svoboda's retirement, but that may be a long way off. Look for newcomer Bobby Moss to be first off the bench when needed.

Strikers: With 19 international goals and 41 caps, Magnus Svoboda is the best-known of all Babbage players. He already gets on well with the new coach, and freed of the burden of team management expect Svoboda to be even more dangerous up front. Svoboda is joined by 18-year-old wünderkind Debbie Sherman, already an experienced national team player whose presence forces defenders to split their attentions away from the star. Carson Whittaker is the likely third forward if the Bumblebees enter a three-forward alignment for any reason.

Manager: Ganz Ijak, the new Bumblebee manager, was a World Cup Hall of Fame player for Cafundéu and a successful assistant coach under the legendary Franz Braddock for both Cafundéu and Sarzonia. He brings both experience and credibility to a rising Babbage team, and has selected a squad young enough to form an enduring core but experienced enough to handle the pressure.

Reserves

12 Rémi Martin 28 F Gernsback United 1/0

Following the sacking of Liam Simpson as the national coach, former Banks manager Chris Irwin has been appointed to replace him. Irwin has not been afraid to wield the axe over the under-performing team, which has led to this drastically-altered World Cup Squad.

The squad is as follows:

GK Tom Lyons (Bradley Hornets)
DL Ben Phillips (c) (Mort Park)
DC Andy Turner (Banks)
DC Jon Little (Bradley Hornets)
DR Paul Paterson (Green Island, Candelaria And Marquez)
ML Dean Thompson (Banks)
MC Adrian Skinner (Markham)
MC Ed French (Engenheiro Peres, Cafundéu)
MR Paul Collins (Stanley United)
FW Tom Weston (Houghton Kestrels)
FW Alun Lydiate (Mort Park)

Substitutes:

Goalkeepers:
Steve Gray (Santa Cruz do Norte, Cafundéu)
Steve Doolan (Markham)

Defenders:
Lewis Fox (Radyukevich, Candelaria And Marquez)
Chris Lyons (Stanley United)
Adam Cooper (Taylor's Cross)

Midfielders:
Ian Hawthorne (Serrano, Cafundéu)
Craig Green (Bradley Hornets)
Jon Buckley (Markham)

Forwards:
Martin Forster (Pocono City, Newmanistan)
Ashley Haynes (St. Martin Athletic)
Liam Vernon (Banks)

Style modifier - a counter-attacking +1. Anything allowed except godmods. Basically anything physically possible - however unlikely - is allowed, the funnier the better.

Nothing ever changes in the McLaughlin Islands. Needless to say, coach Keith McLaughlin has selected an unchanged squad for the World Cup qualifying campaign.

The first team shall be:

GK David McLaughlin
DL Paul McLaughlin
DC Laurence McLaughlin
DC Stuart McLaughlin
DR Robin McLaughlin
ML Lewis McLaughlin
MC Philip McLaughlin
MC Steve McLaughlin
MR Felix McLaughlin
FW Mark McLaughlin(c)
FW Martin McLaughlin

The substitutes will be as follows:

Goalkeepers: Peter McLaughlin, Scott McLaughlin

Defenders: Simon McLaughlin, Nigel McLaughlin, Trevor McLaughlin

Midfielders: Graham McLaughlin, Jamie McLaughlin, Nick McLaughlin

Forwards: Edward McLaughlin, Russell McLaughlin, Mike McLaughlin

Style modifier +1. As for West Zirconia, anything physically possible allowed. In addition, no sex, please - the concept of relationships with non-Islanders is unknown to them.

Stadium information: All matches will be played at the 4,500-capacity Joshua McLaughlin Stadium on McLaughlin Magna. The exception is the match against Kelssek, which will be played at Whitby Park, the 21,000-capacity home of WZNL side St. Andrew's.

After back-to-back consecutive 2nd round appearances in the World Cup, and a quarter-final appearance 4 years ago, Qazox is one of the pre-tourney favorites to win the World Cup. The majority of the team comes back, except for the retired Marc Klick, Bernette Swinson and Matilda Swords. However the core of the team has been around for 8 years and should propel the Pheonix into contention. Kallie Jaus could become one of the most successful Qazoxian Head Coaches of all-time, with an impressive run in either The Babbage Islands or Newmanistan.

Formation: 4-3-3
Head Coach: Kallie Jaus, Age 51

Northern Bettia World Cup 49 Squad

Nickname: The Fire Ants
First Kit: Amber shirts with a black sash, black shorts
Second Kit: Sky blue shirts with a dark blue sash, dark blue shorts

Image

National Stadium: Sakura Park, Viagra (capacity 75,000 - approx 35,000 seated)
Although rather basic by modern standards, Sakura Park can still produce a match to remember for fans (often for the wrong reasons). Nestled in the eastern coastal suburbs of the capital city, Sakura Park has large banks of terracing at either end with all-seated grandstands lining the two sides.

Style Modifier
Northern Bettia play in a standard 4-4-2 formation - due to their infamous tactics however, a maximum style modifier (+3) would be most appropriate here.

Tactics / Roleplaying
If RPing first, the FANB (Football Association of Northern Bettia) give our opponents permission to RP / godmod pretty much anything they like - this DOES include killing or maiming, but if you really are that bloodthirsty, please restrict this to one a game. The Fire Ants employ a rather unique tactic in which they attempt to gain the upper hand by getting as many of their opponents sent off as possible, leading many to accuse the Fire Ants of being a right bunch of bloody cheats (and they'd be right). Hacking, diving, feigning injury, all sorts of ref-conning activity - Northern Bettia have quickly turned dirty play into a fine art. This style of play has had mixed results in the past - it sometimes works well, but when it backfires, it backfires spectacularly (hence the style modifier).

Given our 'unorthodox' tactics (see below), there will probably be red and yellow cards aplenty on both sides, as demonstrated in the second round match against Ariddia in WC38 when all eleven Northern Bettia players were sent off.

Northern Bettian fans are notorious hooligans, with their main gang being called the Yuna Crew. More often than not, rival footballing nations ban Northern Bettian fans from travelling to their nations, but they find 'ingenious' ways of slipping the net into the country. Opposition players, supporters and police can expect trouble by the shedload. This gang of hardcore hooligans who continually aim to make a name for themselves as the hardest firm in the NS-world (usually without much success).

Manager: Murphy Smith
A late replacement for the Fire Ants' previous coach, who unfortunately lost his job when his latest experimental black magic spell resulted in him literally disappearing up his own arse.

(all players have 0 caps at the beginning of this tournament... as far we we know, anyway)

Goalkeepers
1. Max Smith - Steaua Needarest
1. Madison Smith - Shackthar Senseless
1. Magnus Smith - Hardly Athletic

Defence
10. Matt Smith - Rapid Viagra
10. Michael Smith - Yermaws Athletic
10. Malcolm Smith - Borussia Nose
10. Merlin Smith - Bayer Sumfinice
10. Marcus Smith - Bayern Bru
10. Marcel Smith - Inter Yorsista
10. Martin Smith - Viagra Mighty Chaps
10. Matty Smith - Sporting Abeergut
10. Mo Smith - Multiple Score Gazum
10. Mervyn Smith - Sporting Abeergut

Midfield
10. Mitch Smith - Sporting Abeergut
10. Mikey Smith - Victorious Secret
10. Menzies Smith - CF Ukit
10. Maurice Smith - Yermaws Athletic
10. Monty Smith - Inter Yorsista
10. Mick Smith - Borussia Nose
10. Morgan Smith - Ajax Trees Down
10. Mercutio Smith - Deportivo La Kuvtalent

10. Murray Smith - Bayern Bru
10. Maxie Smith - Rapid Viagra
10. Mungo Smith - Shackthar Senseless
10. Monty Smith - Multiple Score Gazum
10. Miles Smith - Victorious Secret

Just what are the FANB playing at? The plot thickens...

The team representing Queer Poco el Mono Ara World Cup 49 Squad

Coach – Joseph Hamburgstein – the former Jeruselem national coach has caused a bit of a stir around the Queer Poco national team, allowing WAG’s to tag along to away fixtures and seen on camera drinking with the players, however, if it gets results the complaints are likely to be swept under the carpet. His first tournament in charge was met with mixed reviews as the team went 1-1-2 in the Copa Rushmori, he reinstated a few big names but jiggled the defence which has always been the teams weak point. However good things are expected of the new coach who has plenty of international experience having led Jeruselem to World Cup 48 and to the second round of World Cup 47.

Starting XI.

#1 Gkp. Petr Ollic – Ollic has been the first name on the team sheet since World Cup 47 qualifying. Has a safe pair of hands and great reactions and manages to get down exceptionally quickly for a man of his stature.

#2 RB. Tamir el Zahar – Zahar has made the number 2 shirt his own. For a defender his tackling is a little poor but he makes up for this with his attacking presence. The 28 year old likes to bomb up and down the wings in support of the attack.

# 3 LB. Ousmane Kaka – He’s fast and that pace will be used to get up and down the left flank adding to the White’s attacking options. With the change to a 1-4-3-2 there are less men in the midfield as Hamburgstein looks to sure up the team’s defensive frailties.

#4 S. Tomasz Poborsky – The national team and Royal Khaldoon captain is a model centreback tall and powerful with a sensible head on his shoulders. A natural leader Poborsky bleeds Queer Poco and will always strive to lead his team to the next level. The captain has been pushed back into a sweeper position.

#5 CB. Rudolpho – the defender has been based in Dancougar for years and has been mercilessly overlooked for the Whites. The former under 21’s captain was touted as Queer Poco’s rising star in defence but fell off the radar. A firm tackler who rarely puts a foot wrong he will relish this opportunity to play for the Queer Poco national side.

#6 CB. Ahmed Khan – has become a yo-yo centreback and will occasionally be the flavor of the month to partner Poborsky. The former Under 21’s player will add competition for the available central defence positions. Hamburgstein has shown faith in him by naming him ahead of Karim Zaki.

#7 RM. Hugo Anderson – The midfield starlet has finally returned to the national side after years of exile after falling out with coach Asdrubal Espinoza. Blistering pace and a bag of tricks and only 20 years old the world is at the feet of Anderson who recently moved to Candelaria and Marquez for big money.

#8 CM. Dean Bowyer – Dean Bowyer secured a moved to Cafundeu on the back of his superb international performances. He’s not the fastest player on the pitch but makes up for it with sublime vision and an eye for goal being Queer Poco’s current top scoring midfielder at international level.

#9 FWD. Ishmael Van Dyke – The White’s top scorer and talismanic forward Van Dyke is a powerful target man with goals galore to his name. He’s great during corners making the most of his height and strength but he’s equally as good with the ball at his feet.

#10 FWD. Enrico Dossena – Dossena returns to partner Van Dyke upfront having failed to produce during the CoH it was expected a different attacker would be brought to partner Van Dyke. Essentially a box predator it’s often forget he has a good turn of pace and some fancy footwork.

#11 LM. Walter Ibaniez – Played well during the CoH and returns with the new man in charge. He’s a fast paced winger but his crossing leaves something to be desired. He has to improve his final delivery before he can be considered to be a top class midfielder.

Subs.

#12 CB. Karim Zaki – The aging defender has slipped further down the pecking order in defence but is hanging in their by the sheer fact there is nobody else available. If the quality of centre backs suddenly improves expect a younger quicker model in his place.

#13 GKP. Christopher Foster – The 25 year old is a shock inclusion having been at the back for Valengren Kickers slide down the league. He’s agile and has good reactions but is prone to “rushes of blood to the head” and can occasionally be caught out of position.

#14 FWD. Lionel Vega – Currently playing in Newmanistan, Vega is a good striker with a reputation for finding goals in the league however he has failed to transfer this prowess to scoring for the international side. Would be expected to make an impact off the bench.

#15 MD. Frank Le Tissier – Le Tissier is back in the squad. He’s a proven international and has often been employed on the left wing, if he gets a chance during the cup he’d be hoping to play in his natural central midfield position.

#16 MD. Adailton – perennial international bench warmer. He turns in great attacking displays for his league team Royal Khaldoon but fails to shine on the big stage for Queer Poco.

Reserves
17. DEF. Andrea Di Vaio - Augustus
18. DEF. Ollie Clark - Pythons
19. MID. Rowan Askwith - Augustus
20. DEF. Joel Craddock – Royal Khaldoon
21. MID. Marco Oliveira – Pythons
22. GKP. Roy James - Augustus
23. STR. Wayne Ullrich – Augustus
