Subramani Domestic Tournaments

Postby Subramani » Thu Apr 11, 2013 2:09 pm

Subramani Soccer Premier League

Subramani Premier League is a premier domestic soccer tournament that takes place in Subramani. Unlike most other countries where the domestic tournament is played between clubs, in Subramani the tournament is played between Provinces. The eight teams that take part in the tournament are Eastern Province, Western Province, Northern Province, Southern Province, Central Province, Tribal Region, Capital District and Under 23 XI. The teams play each other twice, once at home and once away, and at the end of 14 games for each team, winner is determined by the team with the highest points. Please find below a brief overview of each of the teams.

Capital District
Capital District Team represents the players in and around Subramani City, the capital of Subramani. The team is sponsored by Air Subramani, the largest Domestic airlines in Subramani. The team’s strength lies in Defense and hence mostly plays a waiting game hoping to score through counter attacks. Major players for the team are Sarath Pawar (Left back) and Ajit Jogi (Center Back, Captain) and they co-ordinate the defense very well. Because of the limited number of players given the limited area of the capital territory, they are considered to be one of the weakest sides in the competition.

Central Province
Central province team is known for their grit and determination and also their defenders and mid-fielders are very good. However they lack a good forward, hence mostly just try to keep possession and play very defensively hoping to score goals through set pieces. Best players of the team are their experienced goal keeper Kamayogi and their captain John Mittal (Right Back). The team is sponsored by Ajanta Steels, the largest steel manufacturers of Subramani. Given the lack of attacking ability, the team could forward to mid table finish in the season.

Eastern Province
Eastern Province with their skilled forwards just loves to attack; the team would be hoping that their top class strikers would make up for their relatively weak defense and mid-field play. The team’s star player is their captain Rabindra Bose who plays in the left wing in mid field. He along with the attacking mid-fielder Utpal Chattergee and Forward Chittaranjan Das would be expected to score most of the goals for the team; and speaking of goals, you can be assured that the matches involving them would be goal-fests. The team sponsored by Pigeon Network, the leading Media network in Subramani would be happy with the mid table finish given their relative weakness in defense.

Northern Province
Northern Province players are known for their braveness and are equally skilled in all departments – neither too good, nor too bad. The team is sponsored by Borong Guns and Rifles, the leading Military Equipment Supplier in Subramani. The team’s major players are the twins Kalicharan Gupta (Right Wing) and Pandima Gupta (Left Wing) who loves to terrorize the opponents by passing the ball from one wing to another at will. Team would love to finish in top 3 at the end of the competition.

Southern Province
The Southern Province team is known for its highly creative, fluid nature of play and they are also almost good at all departments, but slightly more so in mid-field. They love possession of ball, but could sometimes have difficulty in converting the possession into goal advantage. The star players of the team are defensive mid fielder Narayana Moorthy who plays the role of Anchor Man and the aggressive mid fielder Azim Premzi who plays the role of Play maker. The team considered to be the second best team in Subramani is sponsored by Subramani Infotech, the leading Information Technology Company in Subramani.

Tribal Region
Tribal region consists of small islands near Subramani where tribal populations have been living for centuries. They have only recently taken up to modern sports like soccer and are one of the weakest team in the competition, only slightly better than Capital District. The team is strong in mid field led by the captain and center mid fielder Girija Singh but has pathetic defense. Their attack is single handedly carried on by the star player Yuvaraj Singh who often lacks any resemblance of support from others. The team is sponsored by the Subramani Federal Agency for Tribal Empowerment.

Western Province
Western Province is sponsored by Mukesh Amba, the richest man in Subramani. The team is quite average in defense and mid field but has better strikers including their captain Bill Windows. In the team that has consistent players’ through-out and no star player, the one other player of importance is Arcalar Borde, the defensive mid-fielder. The team loves to play attacking football and score loads of goals. They would be happy to finish in the top half of the table at the end of the competition.

Under 23 XI
Under 23 XI comprises of Squad selected by the Subramani National team selectors from the squad of fringe young players from across Subramani, whom they think have greater chance of playing for Subramani in the future. The soccer federation believes that this approach helps them to train the future stars better and also helps them to play as a team. This team is the best team in the competition and is expected to win the championship. They are excellent in all aspects of the game, with only drawback that could be told is that they do not play too many goals for a team with such superior skills. They tend to concentrate more on winning the game than on trying to humiliate lesser skilled opponents. Their Captain Ten Mongia is arguably the best goal keeper in the competition.

Capital District Defeats Western Province 2-1 in National Capital Stadium, Subramani City

Capital district upset the better team Western Province in their home ground to begin the Subramani Premier League in fantastic style. The match began with the Western province attacking from the word go, but Capital Districts defended well to deny Western Province any goal in the first half, thanks to some wonderful play by their captain Ajit Jogi. In the second half of the game, Western Province decided to attack even more, bringing its players further up into Capital District’s half. This actually opened up the opportunity for Capital Districts who scored a beautiful goal through counter attack much to the delight of the home fans. Western Province decided to attack even more in reply, but that actually helped Capital District score their second goal in next 5 minutes to give the team 2 nil lead. Western Province kept attacking, but they were only able to score a solitary consolation goal in the injury time thanks to their captain Bill Windows.

Central Province Lost to Under 23 0-1 in Ajanta Soccer Staidum, Madhipur

Under 23 team proved their superiority against Central Province by winning what was a drab encounter. Under 23 began in style scoring a goal in the 10th minute, but after that were satisfied with just retaining possession and denying Central Province any opportunity to score. Central Province also seemed destined to the fact that they are going to lose and were just happy to not concede any more goals.

Eastern Province Defeated Tribal Regions 5-2 in John Milton University Ground, Kizlakur

This was the most exciting match of the day which was expected considering Eastern Province was playing in their home ground. They scored 5 goals including a hat-trick from Chittaranjan Das who scored all his three goals in the second half. For Tribal regions, their forward Yuvraj Singh fought hard single handedly scoring twice once on either side of the half, helping Tribal Areas level with Eastern Province at 2-2. This was after Eastern Province scored twice in the first 10 minutes to take 2 nil lead. With score at 2-2 in 50th minute, everyone expected a close encounter, but Tribal Regions were just blown away by Chittaranjan Das.

Northern Province defeated Southern Province 2-1 at Military Barracks Ground, Arshadpur

Northern Province made use of their home advantage to shock Southern Province in the opening encounter. It looked like Southern Province tried to do too many things during the game and Northern Province was able to take advantage of it, and get three points from the match.

Under 23 lost to Capital Districts 0-1 at Subramani Soccer Board Training Academy Ground, Subramani City

Capital Districts came out on top of a derby against superior Subramani Under 23 team which also has its base on Subramani city. Capital Districts started the play defensively requiring the Under 23 team to make all the play. Under 23 team was frustrated as time went by as they were not able to score any goals despite making so many attempts. Capital districts defense led by their captain was able to hold their own despite some frantic attempts by Under 23 team. Under 23 team decided to bring one more striker as a substitute as they continued to search for that goal in vain. That actually helped Capital Districts as they were able to break open on counter attack and score the winning goal in 81st minute. They just held forte after that to win their second consecutive game.

Tribal Regions defeat Western Province 2-1 at Tribal Empowerment Soccer Stadium, Port Maher

Western Province played their second consecutive away game and suffered an embarrassing defeat against lower skilled opponents with exactly identical score line as their first match. Tribal Regions should thank their star striker Yuvraj Singh for the win, as it was he who scored both the goals, one in either half. He has so far scored 4 goals in the tournament that is all the goals scored so far by Tribal Regions and if he could maintain the form, should be in contention for the Golden Ball award at the end of the tourney.

Southern Province drew with Central Province 1-1 at Thomas Alwa Edison Ground, Thenmangur

Both Southern and Central Province got their first points in the tournament by playing out a drab draw. Both the teams looked far below their best and were manage to score a goal more due to stupid mistakes of the opposition defenders rather than any brilliance on their part.

Northern Province drew with Eastern Province 1-1 at Military Barracks Ground, Arshadpur

Though this game had a similar score line to the previous game, this game was anything but drab. Northern Province scored an early goal in just a second minute thanks to a controversial penalty kick. After that Northern Province tried to play it safe by denying the equalizer to Eastern Province. Eastern Province attacked with full force trying to score an equalizer but was not able to do it until the 84th minute when they leveled the score due to a brilliant goal by attacking mid-fielder Utpal with the assist from his captain Bose.
