Coach Hendrik "Papa Bear" Malstrom stood up.

"And that is how you tie your shoelaces Theo. Utz, Hardy, stop that! I will now....sit down everyone!"

When it got quiet he asked:
"Who is our next opponent?"
"95X!", shouted the kids.

He nodded and pointed to the board.

"Now I will show you how we play."

"Ebbe, Seb, Marwin, Bob..you stay heeere, in the defense. You are not all running after the ball. Only if you are the nearest, so look what the others do. Ok? Werner! Don't hit Hardy...I mean Hendrik...sorry!"
He took a ball away from a boy.
"Don't cry! Utz, Hardy, Lesly, you stay here and give the balls to the strikers, the guys in the front... Al, if you do that again, you go home! Lynton, you are running at the side, here and try to make crosses to Mosi, River and Thad. And be careful of the offside trap. You remember how offside works?"
He watched into the faces of the kids and sighed.

"Ok, I'll tell you once more...."

Syndicate Suck! West Guiana Win!

23rd March 12013

Rockport, SHADOWBOURNE---- It seems the terrible luck of the National Team is rubbing off on the youth team, as The Inevitable Syndicate lost the first game of the Under-15's World Championship to our neighbours and rivals, West Guiana. That record of a flawless victory in the last World Championship has already been smashed and thrown to the ground. Whether it was due to the new blood remains unseen...

The match began with West Guiana kicking off, and we could already tell that the new combo of Fox and West was... strained. Fox was constantly treading on West's toes, and the synergy that the previous team had was far better. So much so, that the Guianan team managed to pick at the holes in our defence, and by the seventeenth minute Alexia Thunderson thundered a shot into the goal. You'd think all that Di Bradini Cup training would be enough, but it seems the Syndicate are a little rusty when it comes to youth football.

After this, there was an intense stalemate. Many shots were made, including a header from Fox that almost everyone thought was going to go in in the second half, but overall, neither team managed to make that big push that could secure a goal. Tackles were made, but all were clean, so no cards were handed out by the officials. The final whistle blew after what felt like a long, dull slog for the team, with the final score being 1-0 to West Guiana.

The Syndicate seriously need to get their arses in gear if they want to win this again. While I can understand the bitter loss in the Di Bradini Cup may have played troubles on their minds, and the moving on of many of the star players, but this could really be the chance to prove to the world that the Syndicate is truly the best country in the world.

“Well done guys” said John Wring, the Manager of the Subramani under 15 Squad. The boys were celebrating their 2-0 victory over 95X.

“How was my performance today” asked the ever enthusiastic and funny 14 year old Goal Keeper Dinesh Kumar.

“Good that you kept a clean sheet today, but you were rarely troubled today. For most part of the gme, you were standing alone near the goal post, and doing some stupid antics trying to attract the 12 and 13 year old girls in the crowd. Don’t expect to get such free time in the next match against The Royal Kingdom of Quebec. You know that they scored 3 goals today right?” asked John Wring.

“If they score 3 goals, I will score 4” replied Surai Rajan with a confidence that he gained by scoring both the goals against 95X.

“Son, don’t be over happy that you scored twice. We could have scored more goals, if only you had not forgotten that football is a team game. There were at least 4 instances, when we could have scored an easy goal, if only you had passed the ball to Avhna Magha instead of trying to score yourself. If you are going to keep playing like this in the next game also, I would bench you” warned the manager.

It did not look like Surai paid much attention to what the manager said. He was pushing Dinesh to grab a video game from his hand. In the next room, captain Bhajji was busy updating the victory status in Social Networking sites. The manager knows he has a talented squad with him, but they are also just bunch of teenagers. If only he could make them focused, he could achieve wonders with this squad. But will he be able to do that? We would know only in the coming days.

The opening match of the third Under fifteen World Cup, saw a match up against regional neighbors. The U-15 national teams of the United Federal States of West Guiana and The Parliamentary Republic of The Inevitable Syndicate butt heads last night, the young girls and boys of each team looked to be very excited about being at the U-15 World Cup. For many of them, mainly the West Guiana players they'd have grown up watching their favorite players go up against the best in the world. Though for these young tikes they hope that unlike the older players they'd be able to get further than the group stage.

The match, for that matter all Group H matches will be played at the Rockport Convention Center capacity of over 60,000. Though I doubt there was 60,000 people there I can say this, there were many parents from West Guiana very proud as they watched their sons and daughters play against a tough TIS team and when one nil.

Through out all ninty minutes the one and only goal scored was by Alexia Thunderson of Rockhaven, Ocean. And speaking of young Alexia for each day of the U-15 Cup, we'll be posting of each players likes and dislikes, where they're from and what they wish to do when they're older. And we'll be starting with Alexia.

Alexia Diane Thunderson, born on April 9, 2000 to George and Ashely Thunderson, they live in Rockhaven, Ocean a small town with a population of 12,831. She love playing soccer but also lacrosse. She enjoys cheering on the West Guiana lacrosse team at every World Lacrosse Championship. She loves animals, but her favorite is her pet dog Snoopy. She is a huge fan of the University of Port Salem Anchors, where she wants to attend college to become a meteorologist.

Though she is good at sports she does tell that she isn't good at history, and geography. We asked her who TIS were and she thought them to be a evil dictatorship. We asked why, "Because we have a large cement boarder fence with them."* Alexia told us that her favorite vacation spot is Colono Hotel on Lake Bekk in Port Salem, she loves to swim and tan on the beach.

*We informed Alexia as much as we know about TIS which is very little. But that's okay we play them again, we might know more next time around, as of 2013 reports indicated that only 7.1 million TIS citizens visited West Guiana last year .

Huarvey Reyez had always been the sort of boy that would never settle in. Born in Valladoid, Western Cuba, he was abandoned at age 3, with his parents present whereabouts are unknown and he was left to fend for himself in the busy streets of Western Cuba's second city. Now Huarvey isn't your usual Rushmori kid, as what he lacks in common sense and general knowledge, he excels in other areas such as basic instinct and mental strength. The fact that he was alone and his parents had died didn't exactly bother him, it was more the fact that he was just... bored. He always wanted to be doing something new, something exciting, and something that he excelled in and enjoyed. He went through lots of phases on the Western Cuban streets; There was a time when he liked skateboarding, a time when he liked water sports, and there was one point where he even got arrested for street vandalism, which disgraced Western Cuba's dictatorship of a government at the time.

But soon, Western Cuba had given Huarvey everything they had to offer, and at the physical age of 5 (and the streetwise age of a mature young man) he took to the ports, blagging his way on to a boat that took him to a place of something new, something different, somewhere else. The boat from Valladoid took him to mainland Rushmore, hitch-hiking through Terramidia before taking another boat, this time to a newly founded place in Rushmore, a place called Mashiki. He'd never really heard of it before, but he saw the sign on the ferry that said its name, and he said that he liked the ring to the name.

So, he turned up in Barassia, on the south-western coast of Mashiki. Upon arriving, he noticed that everything seemed different to any other place he'd been to, it seemed a lot more civilised, while at the same time there was an area that was just like the docklands of Valladoid. Anyway, by this time Huarvey was 8 years of age, and he had matured even further by this time. The one thing though that Huarvey had always been passionate about was football. He loved football, and to him it wasn't just about watching it, it was about playing as well. Along his 3 years of riding along from place to place, his skills with a football had earned him kudos, in every place that he visited. But now, this was the place that he really wanted to show everyone what he possessed. And to him, he wanted to be seen on the international stage, and so he decided to step up his game.

Just by coincidence, Barassia was home to headquarters of the Mashik F.A, which was definitely his first port-of-call. Huarvey isn't exactly the person who thinks things over twice. As he approached, the skyscraper seemed to invite him in, almost envelop him. Just the technology of the doors had impressed him, with their sleek and ergonomic design. The height of the tower from the inside seemed even larger than from outside, and that alone made him want to be a part of this even more. But upon entering the colossal building he didn't notice the man come up behind him and place a hand on his shoulder.

"Son, what are you here for?"

The man's voice seemed friendly, but at the same time the glare in his eye seemed to intimidate him. The man opened his mouth to speak again.

"Are you here for the trials?"

Huarvey wasn't really sure what the trials were, but as he was in the F.A headquarters, they must be some sort of way to get into a team.

"Sure!" Huarvey replied.

"Brilliant! You're just in time, now if you'd like to follow me, I'll introduce you to your opponents."

Huarvey couldn't believe it, it just seemed so easy. Or was it?

"The following match is against Subramani, at Ridgebourne. They have some good players on the Midfield and Forwards, boss." commented Ho Won. A former Q-league player of 12 years, he was appointed as the assistant manager of this team after producing an impressive 22-0 record of coaching a high school team. By all means, he was seen as a very good choice.

"I personally would not worry too much," replied his senior, in much calm tone. "The defensive gridlock and gritty play will do. Even if this requires hockey-like checking and breaking bones." Ji Choon, compared to his assistant, was a totally different man. Aged 75, he was well known for his love of defensive soccer, which gained him so much success. This isn't surprising at all, considering how he used to play as an enforcer in Quebec Hockey League back when he was in his 20s. While he appreciated the firepowers on the O-Line, his traditional coaching style has prioritised defense and dirty way of playing. This often caused him to clash with Ho Won, who preferred much cleaner and offence-oriented players.

"Well then, just try to make sure that they're not going to get the ball in first place. The way to do so is by playing the so-called Bedroom-Soccer. This is clearly not about players going naked and start expressing their sexual desires on the audience, for you and I would be arrested if so."
Then, Ji Choon unveiled his Ipad and showed some tactics that he planned out on the plane flight. "Bedroom soccer is a tactic that is most commonly used in Quebec Phoenixes of the Q-League. The basic tactic is done to hold on to the ball as long as possible, so that the opponent could be tired out, which then we could attack."

"But the problem with this is that our offence could also get very bored easily with it and will have hard time to dominate and score."
"Why is this so?" he asked, in a sharp, suspicious tone.
"Apparently, if so, those bastards of Subramani will mostly stay in their side, effectively blocking the O-Line and Midfielders...." commented Ho Won.
"Well, not really. The reason why you're wrong is because of.." He then turned around and showed a picture of Surai Rajan.
"Him. His arrogance and selfishness is the major key behind why this could work out so well for us. As you have seen in their match against 95X, he blew countless of precious scoring oppourtunities because he wanted to score all on his own, instead of providing a good pass." He chuckled, giving a sly smile, thinking about how they would win in great, dramatic fashuion.
"I would expect him to do the same, which would result in bringing other players too. Then, Defenders could just pass to Hongt Chun or Zachary, who would in turn score most likely. Besides, their goaltender is the most immature of the Junior players I have seen in my life. God. Doing foolish antics to catch the attention of girls? That is just ridiculous and out-of-sense."

"Well...." Just as Ho Won tried to say something, Hong Chun Park, the team's Captain, entered.
"Yes, Monsieur?" asked Ji Choon, in his gentle, bass voice.
Zachary Fortin, an 8 year old dark-haired boy with huge beard and moustache, was shaking. It was very unusual of him as Zack Fearless was always the loud, cocky and noisy person, both in and out of field. Instead, he was getting really nervous, not knowing what to say about the situation that he had to tell.
He spoke nervously, covered in terror as he explained what happened.
"Sir. Rene needs to go back immediately......His school was.... under a shooting spree..... and He lost....someone he really loved and is not on the physical condition to do so."
Suddenly, all of them were in tears, breaking down instantly.

After a minute of silence and crying, the Head Coach managed to speak. His voice was now hoarse and weak, without much energy involved.
"Well, he shouldn't leave, not until next match, at least. We need him. Tell him that he could go home after, OK?"
"Yes, sir." replied Zachary. as he went back into his suite.

Those dastardly Darmeni
Daily column by Hararthau Igrisraebun on WC U-15

Instead of the Ko-orenite youth starring in their own story of winning the U-15, it is suddenly the Darmeni team that decides whether the Greenblues' story ends here. On day one, the rivalry between Ko-oren and Darmen was already on. Here it ended in 2-1 in favor of the Rushmore team, rewarding their offensive style. The four attackers repeatedly jumped up in front of 12-47432 and his five defenders were with their backs against the wall for the most of the match. The only thing is, they didn't break. They conceded two goals where any other team could have conceded five or six. In the end, the Alnas brothers both forgot about an offside trap to allow Blake to score the 1-0. Deep into the second half, a free kick from De Angelis sailed past the wall and the keeper and into the goal. In injury time, Dhalakeli repaired some of the damage: 2-1. This meant the damage done to the goal difference was kept to a minimum and with two victories in the other matches, your chances of advancing are high.

But that's the thing with a loss on MD1. You have to rely on the other teams. You need to win both your remaining matches and you'll have no margin of error. With an MD1 win, you have all the power. You only have to win one more game in the remaining two, and if you win both, that's only an added bonus. Darmen and Mapletish won their first. Ko-oren and the Sova Empire did not.

On the second day, Ko-oren faced Mapletish in another rivalry. The two nations have often played each other in multiple sports, most notably deep into knock-out phases in many of the Mini Campeonatos organized by Mapletish a while ago. This battle ended in favor of the Greenblues: 2-1. This meant a goal difference of 0 and a positive H2H record against the Lions. Again, the other team scored first, a goal by Fabio. Ko-oren responded quickly, just before half time, which is the best time to score in any game. Tarjurinjet scored the equaliser, and the game was open at the start of the second half. Here, Dhalakeli scored his second of the tournament to win the game: 2-1. This was all Ko-oren needed, but of course it complicates matters. Darmen won their second match against the Sova Empire, too.

On the last day, Ko-oren will face the Sova Empire, dead last in the group. Darmen will play Mapletish. Darmen has to beat Mapletish to allow the Greenblues to advance. Apart from the necessary victory against TSE, Darmen needs to win above anything. If not, three teams will be stuck on six points and all kinds of weird probabilities come into play. Darmen's GD is +3, which most likely will last them. Ko-oren and Mapletish are on +0, but at least the H2H record is in our favor. In one last scenario, Darmen and TSE both win, still allowing the Greenblues to advance. Anyhow, where the young Ko-orenites should star in their own story, it is suddenly the Darmeni that have taken over and wrote the story for them.

Kriegiersien U15 still in the game.

The extremly young team of kept back elementary school soccertalents, was able to win the second game against 95X with 2:0. In a not very pretty game River Bulut scored in minute 37 after much hustle in the Penalty area. And after Nolan Lynton (the Goalkeeper of Kriegiersien also shoots the freekicks) missing a penalty, it was Gerd Thad, who used is extreme size (for his age) of 1,86 m to score a header in the 57th minute. After 2 from 6 games Kriegiersien has now 3 points. In the next game against Subramani Kriegiersien has now an much more experienced, older but also pubertal opponent.

Papa Bear clapped his hands.
"Very good boys. So our next game against.."
"Subramani!"
"...yes...and this time we will play wider. I show you. You have to pass more. Not dribbling all the time. Passing. And the midfieldes are moving more to the sidelines, so we have more places to pass to. And I want you to play pressing. Ah..I'll explain to you later. Darnell, you won't play next time, do you know why?"
"Because I kicked the one boy?"
"No, because you didn't kicked him hard enough. And Ignatz, you don't run enough."
"But you told me not to run so fast."
"Yes, not so fast in the beginning that you can't run anymore after 5 minutes. Steady running, staying in your position. I told you a thousand times. Everyone, why do we do so much running in training?"
"Because you are mean."
"Nigel, you don't play either. No, so that you are fit and can run in the game for a long time. Now I'll explain to you how we play pressing."

Syndicate Succumb To Match With Mangolana

24th March 12013

Rockport, SHADOWBOURNE---- Another dreary game for The Syndicate in Shadowbourne today, as the Youth Team managed to tie it up 1-1 to Mangolana. It seems that Mangolana were hot on the heels of the Syndicate, or were we the ones playing catchup?

Mangolana kicked off, and showed some excellent ball control, refusing to submit to any tackles the Syndicate put forward. The lightning fast reactions of Nick Folger were just too much for our team, as within three minutes he had scored a brilliant goal that seemed to bring the Syndicate to it's knees. The defence stayed strong, though as the famous Syndicatian defence proved strong for most of the first half after that early goal. Unfortunately, the Mangolana defence was also on par, and while out forwards made an attempt to bring back and equaliser, no more goals were scored in the first half.

The second half was a little more intresting, with fox getting tackled badly by the Mangolana defence, getting Mac Frontier yellow carded. Rhys West retaliated with a suprising goal that appeared to come out of nowhere in the 56th minute, pulling the score back up to 1-1 for the Syndicate. The attacks after this point were strong, and increased in intensity towards the end of the game, but nobody managed to pull off any more goals. The game ended with the final score being a tie.

The Inevitable Syndicate

Mangolana
:: Goalscorers ::
:: 3' Nick Folger

This is the second disappointing result we've had in two games. It seems the skill of the players is a lot higher than we had last time! That or our players are getting a bit too tired... Next game is against Schmiegelland, and only time will tell if the Syndicate can step it up and return to their former form.

John Wring, the manager of Subramani under 15 squad was frustrated. Yes, if someone had told him before the match that his team would draw against much superior The Royal Kingdom of Quebec 2-2 he would have happily taken the result. But what frustrates him now is the fact that, his team missed out an opportunity to get 3 full points, after leading 2-0 within first 13 minutes. In just the third minute, striker Surai Rajan showed why he could not be benched in spite of the fact that he is arrogant and doesn't pass the ball ever. He single handedly ran past 4 defenders with the ball, and surprised the goal keeper with such a powerful shot at the lower right corner, to give his team an early lead. John has never seen such superior skills at such young age before. He knows, if only this kid’s attitude could be corrected, he could turn out to be one of the best football players, Subramani has ever produced.

10 minutes later, Ashu Mahapatra, the tallest player in the team, doubled the lead by heading the corner kick in between goal keeper’s wide spread legs. The team did defend the lead well until 70 minutes. Then the bad period of play for Subramani started. First, John had to substitute Ashu, as he was looking extremely tired. Then the defense disintegrated just like that. Goal Keeper Dinesh Kumar, as usual was distracted for 5 minutes, and that was enough for Quebec to level the scores. Thankfully, Dinesh become alert after that, and made some wonderful aerobic saves to prevent further embarrassment. It was frustrating for John, how the same goal keeper, who could make such stupendous saves, can also get distracted and make those silly stupid errors.

John knows his immediate task was to get the guys play with same level of focus for the entire 90 minutes. If only they could do that, he was sure they could hammer Kriegiersien in the next match.

With the loss to West Guiana, Schmiegelland needed at least a draw. If Schmiegelland got a draw, and Mangolana failed to win by 4 goals or more against WG, then Schmiegelland were through. But still, Schmiegelland had lost 1-0. That is what mattered. They needed to put that behind them and focus, because the next match was against The Inevitable Syndicate.

OOC: I recently watched Sonicsgate for the first time, which gave me too many ideas.

Honorable Mr. Commissioner:

My delay is simple; there has been nothing of note to report since the team left 95X to compete in the tournament. We've been on the losing side of identical 2-0 matches, and an observer wouldn't need the statistics to notice the opposition has had more offensive time and kept the ball on the 95X side of the field for at least three-quarters of the time.

As we're already thinking of the league post-Foureleven, which will happen sooner or later, it is worth noting that these girls and boys, if they're able to continue playing competitive soccer, are malleable and going through teachable moments at this point in their lives. August/September Kelland definitely has a future in soccer, the 4 goals scored on him are a result of an underpowered midfield. Placing the bench in the game has done little to mitigate. Of the four starting defenders, I'll likely spend little further time on Jacobson or Zamia, they'll need a lot if they ever hope to put on a competitive soccer uniform—much less the black and yellow—again. This leaves Harmon and the most unfortunate name on the lineup: Bland. They each have talent and possibility.

I too would love to see a matchup where we see more of the forwards, there's been too little attacking game to make much of an evaluation.

One thing is certain: if we're to rely on domestic talent as the future of competitive soccer in 95X, we're in for some real trouble. Having Foureleven help with selection definitely put brawn on the field but it may have come at the expense of bruised feelings of those with more soccer-specific skills. We can discuss this further and I'll be spending plenty of time on this during the debrief at league offices after the competition.

OOC: Shadowbourne. Quebec's supposed to be at the first not, second place, after the MD2. Grandterre scored and allowed more goals than Mashiki, and Grandterre's in 1st place of the group.

At the same time, Coach Ji Choon Kim was in mixed emotion. The 2-2 tie against the weaklings of Subramani was rather disappointing, but he wasn't worried too much. At the same time, It helped him to reflect over his team and strategies' plus and minuses.

He looked back over the match.
At the kickoff and beginning of the match, Subramani was in possession of the ball. Obviously, this meant that they're not able to use their defensive method. They played poorly and in turn, were left with a surprising 2-0.

While his young assistant became disappointed with the goaltending, he did not worry too much about his goalkeeper. He was only 11, and had to make saves after saves. He was usually good at that, but at times, his inexperience and lack of much physicality resulted them to take advantage of that and scored. Especially on the 2nd Goal for those bastards when he forgot to act along his instinct and kick the ball, instead allowing Ashu to score(OOC: On this coach's point of view, the goal did not happen due to Ashu kicking the ball between his wide legs. That's impossible to happen).
Then, his soldiers managed to take the flow of the time and game. Holding onto the ball in what was like eternity, the Defenders and Midfielders engaged on Bedroom Soccer. Without doing anything but passing and trying to assault the Subramanians(when 1-3 of the Offence walked into our zone).

It was then Ji Choon realised what his assistant meant. Now, the Defenders were blocking Forwards from receiving supposed passes. Normally, coaches would be panicked about it, as time managed to pass on and on,.still trailling behind by 2 goals, with diminishing goals. However, he did nothing. No substitutions, no blitzkrieg. Why he had to change the fine-functioning squad by substitution when they're not tired at all(thanks to very relaxing, slow way of playing by Bedroom Soccer)?
And yes. He was right. In the end, Zachary Fortin, the youngest member on the team to score. Zachary, after fooling 4 defenders with his superb dribbling technique, easily kicked a goal into the net. This was also noticeable at the same time, because Dinesh Kumar, every so busy flirting with the crowd, has managed to forgot that ball was surprisingly close to his zone. The second goal followed about 2 minutes after, when René Bourassa managed to kick a long-range shot out of Penalty Zone. The score was levelled and evened out with 2-2.

After that, the Offence continued their offensive, but by now, they decided to play the Bedroom Soccer again, and the game ended in what was a boring fashion.

Oh, well. He thought as he left his hotel room to drive René to the airport.

It looks like 2 games have already taken place from Shadowbourne! Sicoutimont were drawn into group A, along with Wight, Maklohi Vai and Western Borderlands. Let's catch up on the results!

Game 1: Sicoutimont 2-Maklohi Vai 1
In this game from the Bournean home team's pitch, the Sicoutian players defeated Maklohi Vai in a tight scoreline. Due to privacy legislation in Maklohi Vai, we can only refer to these players by their numbers. #4, the Vaian keeper, gave up a goal in the 15th minute to our Umbrie, with his first of the tournament. The Vaians would respond late in the half, with a 43rd minute goal to #70. Ukolu Molopani, the Vaian manager, would make his first substitution 1 minute later, bringing out #88 to replace #81. Hugo Laurier made his first appearance in net, with a clean sheat until that 43rd minute goal. 1 minute would be added to the first half before the teams retired. Midway through the second half, Louis-Jacques Leblanc sent in his first sub, replacing Ollie Djokin with Kinin Iafe. In the 71st minute, Ipe Istoval Rodriguez, arguably the top gun for Les Royales, got hold of the ball. Faking around 2 Vaian defenders, the ball roared past #4, giving Sicoutimont the 2-1 lead, and the match.

Game 2: Sicoutimont 0-Western Borderlands 1
This game was not played like the first game for Les Royales. Missed opportunities were the story of this match, and it ended with a penalty goal for the Borderlands to claim victory. In the first half, Ipe Rodriguez just missed an attempt from the 18 yard box. 3 minutes later, at the 36th minute, the Borderlands would draw first blood. Gregory Hansen was tripped in the box, and he would convert the penalty attempt. That would be the last scoring in this game, however. John Frusciano would miss another great opportunity to tie the game in the 88th minute, and the game wound down as a 1-0 loss for Les Royales.

Here's Sicoutimont's remaining schedule:

Sicoutimont vs Wight

Sicoutimont vs Maklohi Vai
Sicoutimont vs Western Borderlands
Sicoutimont vs Wight

You lost by that much because of extremely bad luck...

Those dastardly Darmeni... Ehm, that's delightful Darmeni for you
Daily column by Hararthau Igrisraebun on WC U-15

Yesterday, I went through most of the possible scenarios for group G. Mapletish, Darmen and of course Ko-oren were in some sort of mutual stranglehold for the first two spots. In the end, Darmen lost and Ko-oren won, which was the most difficult scenario: three teams on six points. In the end, the tiebreaker was GD, which had the 3-0 winning Mapletish in first place and the 2-0 winning Ko-oren in second place.

Now for something difficult: what would the table have looked like in case of different tiebreakers? This fine network would not be this fine network if we did not have data on that. Let's begin with some unusual tiebreakers (and some of them would even be useless in this situation):

Games won, least games lost, most scored would all be out of the question: three teams had 2-0-1 with five goals scored. That would not help us at all to make some difference between these teams.

Least goals conceded would give the benefit to the most defensive teams. Some tournaments even award attacking football with a point per scored goal plus three for a win and one for a draw. A 2-2 draw would then give all teams three points. But a least goal conceded rule is weird, unusual, and would not promote the sport. But for the sake of it:
1. Mapletish 2 conceded
2. Ko-oren 3 conceded
3. Darmen 5 conceded

Well, that did not change much. Maybe the old saying is true: attacking football wins you fans, defensive football wins you tournaments.

H2H record is the one we've all been looking forward to. With only three matches to consider, this is not as headache-inducing as some of the World Cup Qualification groups we've seen over the years, but it is still considerable. Here are the matches involved:

Darmen 2-1 Ko-oren
Ko-oren 2-1 Mapletish
Mapletish 3-0 Darmen

Basically, Darmen>Ko-oren>Mapletish>Darmen>∞, but when you consider goals scored etcetera:

Team P W D L For Con +/- Pts
1 Mapletish 2 1 0 1 4 2 +2 3
2 Ko-oren 2 1 0 1 3 3 +0 3
3 Darmen 2 1 0 1 2 4 -2 3

Wait... That didn't do anything funny to the scores either. I think it was just meant to be this way. Sorry for all Darmeni, but even if I wanted, I can't think of a system to let you in. Besides alphabetical order:

1. Darmen
2. Ko-oren
3. Mapletish

But that would be stretching the idea a bit, and we'll be sure we'll enter our team as Aaaako-oren by next tournament.

The young boys of Subramani representing the country in the under 15 football could afford to sleep for an extra hour today morning as they had an off day. Their coach John cancelled the morning training session, wanting to give his wards some free time away from football. At the midway stage of the group games, the team is reasonably placed. They are yet to lose a match, and are second in their group, hoping to maintain the place, thereby qualifying to the knockout phase.

The coach was confident the guys will at least qualify to the knockout phase, if not progress further. The team had three different matches – in the first match they were able to defeat a weak 95X in spite of not playing to their potential. In the second match against, strong The Royal Kingdom of Quebec, they squandered a two goal lead to share the points with them. In the third game yesterday against Kriegiersien, they were looking down the barrel, before a last minute equalizer by 12 year old mid fielder Papa Abrijat helped them avoid embarrassment.

Meanwhile, the Coach based on their performance so far, has compiled a report of 5 players who could go on to represent the National team in the future:

Surai Rajan – Extremely talented forward, who has scored 3 goals so far. His ability to dribble the ball past defenders, his agility and his natural skill are too good for a 14 year old. His major negatives are his selfishness, arrogance, and his desire to score all the goals himself and not pass the ball.

Dinesh Kumar: - Young energetic Goal keeper has the ability to make lot of wonderful saves. Some of the aerobic saves he has made in last 3 games are a treat to watch. He could also motivate the team a lot, especially when the team morale is down, as was seen in the last game against Kriegiersien. However he could get distracted for a brief period of time, as was seen during the second game when he conceded 2 goals in 5 minutes.

Ashu Mahapatra:- The tallest member of the team, has good defending skills, and also leverages his height to score headers into goal post during set pieces, as seen during second game. His major drawback is his lack of agility and tends to get lethargic towards the final few minutes. This meant the coach always had to substitute him in the second half to keep him fresh for the next match.

Papa Abrijat: This young mid fielder is also extremely talented and he is quite good at making both long passes and short rapid passes. He can also play forward and score if the team decides to play more aggressive football in the closing minutes.

Ruby Singh: Another agile mid fielder, who is also good at taking free kicks and corner kicks.

Everyone in the changing room was still angry about the last minute goal.
Marwin smashed the door of his locker.
"If you hadn't let this guy slipped, we would have won", he called out on Bob.
"Me? You didn't get him. You..you..", Bob punched Marwin.

"Stop that, you two!", shouted Papa Bear, seperating the two defenders.
"We nearly won, we played good, you played as you should, that way we go on. Our next game is again against..."

"Quebec", came some less enthuastic voices.
"Again."
"Quebec", everyone shouted.
"Louder!"
"Quebec!"
"And what will we do?"
"Win?", that were the voices from only a few.

"Good idea. You play. Who else wants to play?"
"I...Me....WIN!"

"Better."
"Come around. What do I have here?"
Everyone watched what he had placed on a box.
"A cookie?"
"Yes, Utz. Special, very expensive cookies, here from Palmburgs best bakery. And for every time someone makes a high ball to Theo in the penalty area which he gets, the one who crossed gets a cookie. This time we will play .."
Theo, sticking out of the mass with his age and giant size, put his hand up.
"And how do I pass to myself?"
"You get a cookie if you score a goal."
Theo clapped happily.
"So, our tactic in this game...focus everyone...don't even try to get to the tin, Nik... we are playing with a 4-5-1...."

Youths Yank Nine Shots From Schmiegelland

26th March 12013

Rockport, SHADOWBOURNE---- In an amazing and completely unexpected display of football last night, the Syndicate managed to find themselves 9-1 up in the 90th minute. This was a much needed win that could really put them on the way to topping the group again.

Schmiegelland kicked off, but within minutes the control of play had switched to the Syndicate, and Spencer Fox started his amazing game with a brilliant goal in the 13th minute. Rhys West one-upped him with a fantastic bunch of bobbing and weaving past the Schmiegelland players, and bumped up the score in the 24th. The game turned into a bit of a sparring match against Fox and West, with each of them trying to score goals one after the other. Katie Hall intervened with yet another goal, but not before Majka Jahgv of Schmiegelland retaliated for a first half of bullying by whistling a ball past Terry Scott.

So, overall, a goal-packed first half. It seemed Schmiegelland didn't even have a defence, as minutes in, Spencer Fox was at it again, scoring goals left, right, and centre. West and Hall picked up on this, and tried to divert the play from this one man, even deliberately giving the ball up in places, but it seems there was a seperation of communication between the forwards and the defence, as our defence was like a wall, preventing most players from getting through. Those that did appeared to crumble under the pressure, and as a result, no shots were scored by the opponent. The final whistle blew like a bell in a boxing ring, signalling the end of the game.

This game has put the Syndicate second in the group, trailing behind West Guiana by three points. We play them next, and hopefully now the team has a taste for winning, this will continue. I've heard that those in West Guiana don't really know too much about us - I went down to an information bureau a few weeks back, and they had travel guides for the Syndicate - I'd advise you pick one of those up if you want information. If not, check our DataLink page!
