ATO News - SportsLine

Postby Abalucia » Tue Apr 23, 2013 9:36 am

Welcome here at pitch side in Kolkata for ATO News SportsLine. I'm Angela Morgaina here to give you the latest news, views and action in sunny India.
As Abalucia celebrate knocking out Uganda in a 370-630 thriller, fans are skeptical of our next match with Owle. Inside the Abalucia camp, our reporter Sidian Gerpoli has the latest.
The mode in the Abalucia camp is very upbeat after the team's performance on sunday night. The mode back home was ecstatic as 40,000 people turned up at the world cup party in Drayton Park to watch the game on big screens live. It was only fitting that the captain who was behind the team's amazing qualifying performance caught the snitch. I spoke to him and he had this to say.
"The team is in high spirit and it was great for Abalucian Quidditch for us to win and by such a margin. The fans as well have been amazing and for them to travel all this way to cheer us on is just amazing and has given the team the boost it needed. We have high hopes for Friday but we are not getting complacent about it. They are a great side and can't be messed with. we'll do our best for the fans."

The head coach is letting no secrets out about the team's tactics for Friday but says that the team is on a strict no alcohol policy and has a curfew of 9PM every night. Sidian Gerpoli in the Abalucian camp for ATO Sportline.

Thank you and before we go today we have time to look at your tweets. They have been coming in thick and fast all day.

Image@philordin Great performance on Sunday! Can't wait for the next game against Owle! Come on guys we will be champions!!!!!!!!
Image@damienkaynarAbalucia will be champions!!! Do it for your country! #comeonabalucia.
Image@venessajosephOlwe are a great side. Hope we can turn them over. Great the captain caught the snitch #gladwewonthatgame.

Well that's it for Sportline today but you can always get the latest from the Quidditch World Cup and other sport on the ATO Sport website or go to the official ATO Kolkata 2013 website at http://www.atosport.co.ab/qwc13 for more details. Until then, have a great evening and we'll see you here live tomorrow from pitchside in India, Bye for now.

"Look at this," Keiko Asamiya, one of the Olwean team's Chasers, said to her Captain, Donald Lynch.

"9 PM curfew and no alcohol?" Lynch said, looking visibly disgusted by the prospect. No alcohol the night before the game was one thing, but for the entire week? That would make his players quit the team. "What the fork?"

"Maybe they're Christians," Seeker Joi Kneece said, looking up from the bench in front of her locker where she was putting on her socks.

"Christians? Playing Quidditch? That shouldn't even be allowed!" Lynch said, now starting to shift from disgusted to angry. It was no secret that he was one of the Crusaders -- a political movement dedicated to starting the Pagan Crusades, the series of bloody and brutal wars to exterminate Christians and Muslims, anew -- and this sort of restrictive approach to things was guaranteed to set most Crusaders off. "All right," he said. "New battle plan. We show no mercy. Any time you feel you can get away with a little rough stuff, do it. We'll take penalties if necessary, as long it allows us to put these people in their place. We're going to slaughter them. Literally, if possible."

(OOC: I know that's different from the usual news-brief post, but I felt it might help the RP out if there's a bit of a rivalry going on and I saw an opportunity for Olwean cultural differences to take their course.)

New Midwest Sports Network

Postby New Midwest America » Tue Apr 23, 2013 7:06 pm

Good Evening, Welcome to Wednesday Night Quidditch on NMSN. Im Mark Liverman here to give you the latest updates in the world of Quidditch. Earlier today the Chicago Wildcats beat the Tennessee Tigers in the Liberty Conference Finals, the score was 3450 to 1070. This is the first time ever that the Wldcats have won the Conference Finals and they will go on to the National Quidditch Cup. The Ohio Falcons and the Indiana Lightning will face off Saturday at the Independence Conference Finals. The winner of this match will advance to the National Quidditch Cup.

In International New the New Midwest Lions beat the Turkey National Qidditch Team in the first round of the United Quidditch World Cup. The score was 750 to 380, the lowest score ever by the Lions. They advanced to the second round and won due to the Yakostanian Team forfeiting. In the Turkey Match, Chaser Diamond Rolle was hit by a Bludger and broke her leg. Doctors said she will not be able to fly for three months so she will sit out the rest of the Tournament. We sent Meagan Davis to talk with team captain, Christian Jones and he had this to say;

"Well it's horrible way happened to Diamond. She was our best Chaser but we can't reverse what happened.....well we can but.....anyways. The team is just going to have to keep going without her and do the best we can. Her replacement is Ty McNary who is our newest recruit. Ty is a great Chaser and we hope she will be a great addition to the team while Diamonds Out. Diamond will still be accompanying us to the last matches of the Tournament."

Well that's all we have today folks, have a Good Night!

Wizard Weekly

Wizard Weekly

The Hyppogifs have been doing great in the UQWC and have a great chance at winning. they have beaten France and Silkjd, and another team will have that fate next week in the third ounf. We talked with Hyppogrifs Owner Chuck Davis and Seeker Carl Wright about the Background of the Hyppogrifs.

WW: Tell us a little bit about the Hyppogrifs History
Chuck: Well the Hyppogrifs started in 1917 as the Welcher National Quidditch Team. In '53 John Wilcox bought the team and gave them their first official mascot, the Wizards. Before this time the team didn't have much recognition in the national or international community. John hired Lee Williams, the best Quidditch Coach in North America, as head coach. Under Williams the team made it to there first Quidditch Qorld Cup and won against Ireland. After the World Cup victory Melissa Anthony bought the team in '75. She kept Williams on and the Wizards won 7 more World Cup Championships, 11 North American Cups, and 9 Eastern World Cups, and made a playoff appearance every year of the World Cup. The Team was sold to Miguel Andreas in '90 and renamed the Welcher Lightning. Andreas fired Williams and hired Ramon Martinez an Amatuar Coach from Mexico. The team won only 1 Eastern World Cup and made no playoff appearances ruining a 15 year streak. I bought the team in '94 and renamed them Hyppogrifs. I fired Martinez and Hired Scott Langly. Since them we have won 1 World Cup, and 3 Eastern World Cups.

WW: Why did you change the name to the Hyppogrifs?
Chuck: Well Hyppogrifs have always been my favorite animal. They are like the Eagles of the Wizarding World. They represent power, they fly so majestically, and they are beautiful creatures. That's what I want my team to be Powerful and Great Flyers.

WW: Who came up with the team motto?
Carl: Well we were in the locker room and we were just joking around and Marshall just jumped out of no where and said, "Strong as a Lion, Fast as a Cheetah, Powerful as a Tiger that's what we are." We just changed a few things and came up with "Strength, Power, Speed". We later found out he wa just singing a song.

WW: One last Question, Are you guys really teaming up with Nimbus Inc. to start your own line of athletic wear and possibly your own brooms.
Carl: Well there have been talks with Nimbus about an Athletic Wear Line. The team is very excited nd we hope to have our own Shoes, Shirts, Jersey, Jackets, Jogging Suits, Compression Shorts and Basketball Shorts. As far as our own broom goes you will have to wait and see.

Everyone needs to support our Welcher Hyppogrifs during the UNited Quidditch World Cup and check out the entire article at WizardWeeklyMag.Org

Abalucia will play its next match against Atlantica on the 29th April. We don't have many details as of yet about the game due to technical error but we will update you as soon as we can. We do know that the Abalucian national team ended the game by clapping the opposition off the pitch at the end. Before we continue we have a special message from the Royal Ministry of Magic.

The Royal Ministry of Magic in Drayton would like to congratulate Olwe's performance throughout the competition and wishes them the best of luck for next year's world cup. BREAKING NEWS! Llamas are in the quarterfinals!

It was never in doubt as the Llamas edged India then pounded on with 9870 points.

Drew Ludwick, the popular seeker, snagged the snitch and the team is excited now to face Welcher. The winner will play the winner of Japan and Lacostasia.

When asked about who he would rather play, captain Thomas Hudson said: "They're both great teams. But lacostasia is more dangerous, so Japan."

Broadcasting problems with ATO.

Postby Abalucia » Sun Apr 28, 2013 4:46 am

Abalucia's QWC Broadcasting host, ATO, seems to be having problems with its satellite communications and is having to postpone its viewing online with a reschedule of general punditry from an Abalucian studio on normal TV.

Image

ABALUCIAN VIEWERS NEED YOU HELP.
Other TV networks such as LCB in Abalucia can't move their equipment soon enough for Mondays game against Atlantica. We are looking for any other networks from the other participating nations to broadcast live pictures from India to Abalucia until the issue is corrected. Please Telegram me if you are interested on broadcasting the game for the UKA and ATO can make it worth you while.

The Llamas have been eliminated despite fighting back from a 2400-0 early deficit. They fought back and took a brief lead, but Welcher's seeker came up big to knock the Llamas out of the playoffs.

In the first Llama campaign at Quidditch, coach Robin Henry coached admirably. However, he was fired after the loss by owner Bob DeVoss and replaced by one of his assistants, Jared Meyer. An ex-player, Bobby Pear, has taken Meyer's old spot. Henry has returned back to his club, QC Vargas, which won fourth place last season.

Abalucian Representation - QWC'13 Closing Ceremony.

Postby Abalucia » Tue May 28, 2013 3:16 am

Our representation in the closing ceremony of QWC will consist of the players walking out being lead by a flag bearer and an Ancient Abalucian dance group of around 55 dancers will show their stuff while Abalucia lift the trophy! We would however like everyone to acknowledge a two-minute silence for those who have died in a blast in Abalucia's second biggest power plant, Thermogen 1.

Here is an archive that I started about the championships. Please feel free to add, chop and change things to it. Well done everyone on a great QUWC and I'll see you in New Midwest America!

Yes; yes they do.

And this includes you.

NS Sports is for events between NS nations, not for events between RL nations - even where the sport in question is fictional.

If you want to run an event for RL nations, take it to the Portal to the Multiverse; it doesn't belong here.

I'm now going to lock all QUWC events that involve RL nations rather than NS nations.

The present event breaks the fourth wall by mixing NS nations with RL nations; the latter appear to have been used to fill out the competition.

This is not correct NS Sports practice.

Likewise the use of RL venues in the RL nation of India to host matches.

This is also not correct NS Sports practice.

It would be acceptable to host venues in an NS nation that is very much like India, and where NS locations have the same name as their RL counterpart, but not to simply host events for NS nations in a RL nation.

Given that this is the second time moderator intervention has been necessary in this thread - and that further action was necessary in a closely related thread - I very much regret to say that it's clear the main protagonists (primarily The united kingdoms of zackalantis and New Midwest America) should make the effort to better acquaint themselves with how events are run in this forum.

Enthusiasm is commendable, and enthusiastic new members are always welcome here, but it very much helps if that enthusiasm is chanelled constructively.
