Note. Some of the nations mentioned are based on the Real-life nations.

His Imperial Majesty the Jacques IX entered the room again, but this time, there were only 2 people(other than him), instead of 6. It was rather strange, as the one of the people that is there was . He knew that was Eswin Lazardis, the minister of International Relations and Diplomacy. Eswin, the 3rd-youngest member of the current Perreault Government's Cabinet with age of 29, was at the place, making him feeling strange and worried. Hockey and diplomacy normally doesn't mix, lest related to each other. Something serious must have happened. It must be something about the last night's match, thought Jacques IX. He watched the entire match on his living room. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out the best for his sake and after the Knights' 4-3 loss, he quickly went back to his bedroom, extremely upset about it.

"Well," gently asked the Emperor, who was amused to see Minister of Diplomacy Eswin Lazardis in the room."Why is Ms. Lazardis here, Mr.Smith?"
"His Imperial Majesty and the Minister of Diplomacy, It seems like we are having a particular issue here." commented Robert, the 86 year-old Head of the Hockey Quebec, who then picked the remote control and turned on the screen. It was rather shocking:

A player and 2 fans raided Narsora Cabins: 5 dead
Doo Joon Park

More news have broken out of the Royal Kingdom of Quebec Ice Knights Training Camp, when the Arvika Police has arrested three men who shot 8 Narsora players from the Ibis Arvika late last night.

The story began in the match that occurred to them at that night. After its loss against Narsora after a disappointing matchup that prevented the Knights from clenching the Playoff Spot and the Group Title, the fans remained furious as they rabidly booed against both teams: Narsora for winning the match and Quebec for doing horrible on the match that they should have winged it.
Darren Hunter, who played for the 4th line at the match, was particularly angry at the winning team of the night, over an unfair penalty that was given to him when he was called for 5 minutes in Penalty Box after the Narsoran 2nd line Left Defensceman accidentally lost control of his skates and collided with him out of sudden. After the match, the player complained about this unfair ruling and complained this to the WCoH authority, but his appeal was ignored immediately. Angry and furious, he left the arena rather disappointingly.

But the saga wasn't over as the night continued. Eric Leblanc and Devin Shaw, two rabid Quebecois supporters, has joined Mr. Hunter some hours after the match. Not long after, they broke and entered one of the rooms at the team hotel that the players were at. Then, they launched shooting spree at five different suites for 10 minutes before being arrested by the Kelssekian police. However, it did not finish well: Mr. Leblanc and Mr. Hunter gave up, but Mr. Shaw managed to fight against police for minutes before being shot to death.
The players, meanwhile, were quickly sent to hospital but it was too late: 5 Narsoran players have died and 3 more were injured.

The Kelssekian Government has held the custody of Darren Hunter and Eric Leblanc in custody until when they decide to imprison them in Kelssek or to have them deported back to Quebec.
The Hockey Quebec and Ministry of Diplomacy and International Relations have yet to reply.

Both the Minister and the Emperor were shocked to hear about this
"I'm apparently disgusted of what happened," bellowed Jacques IX with obvious signs of disgust. "What's the Kelssek's punishment for the mass killing?"

"From what I know, life in Jail." commented Eswin Lazardis bitterly." Royal Highness, the Ministry has nothing much to do." . "They have committed mass murder in a country that Quebec is currently trying to improve its economic relations with. It won't be a good idea for them to be deported back here, where they will be executed."
"Okay," said the Emperor, who then turned to the 86-year old Smith," Just wondering, what would happen to his career if he's back in Quebec and will not be pleaded guilty, executed or spend his life in jail?"
"Well, His Imperial Majesty, even if he's not going to spend his entire life in jail, will be permanently banned from the Hockey Quebec and QHL itself." commented Robert Smith. "It would be a hypocrisy for us to let him back, because then the Hockey Quebec itself will face more criticism, and we already face enough from the media about the mediocrity of Knights."
"That explains. Then, it seems like he's going to be banned permanently from Hockey Quebec. agreed the Emperor, who then turned his attention to the young Minister of International Relations and Diplomacy. "Ms. Lazardis, what is your opinion about this, whether to let them stay in Kelssek or have them deported back home?"
"Emperor. Since it seems like they will face imminent execution should they come back to Quebec, It's better and preferred for them to stay in Kelssek. However, the best decision is to wait for their answer, before we could announce the ministry's reply to this situation."
"Ok, then. We will wait for the Kelssekian Government's decision, while Mr. Smith say about the Hockey Quebec's stance towards what happened last night."

News Conference Room, Hockey Quebec Headquarters,2712 Dongpirang Road, Quebec City/Ville de Quebec

The President was nervous on the inside. People were obviously interested to hear how Hockey Quebec, who's currently facing much criticism due to its disappointment associated with the Ice Knights' latest match against Narsora, which was mediocre at best and horrible at worst. As much as reporters from 60 newspapers, radio and television stations are in the room, waiting to hear the more about it. The Hockey Quebec's decision to this could either reduce or multiply the level of criticism that they will face.
So far, it's going rather well for Hockey Quebec and Robert, who well faced many theories about the possible dismissal of the head coach and drug scandals. He replied that Logan Beaulieu will not be dismissed because of the team's mediocre performance the previous night and that there are no evidence of several players and referees on QHL taking illegal substances.
Then, it went on to the very important question, of why everyone was here for this emergency news conference.
"Mr. Smith, What's the Hockey Quebec's stances to Mr. Hunter's act last night?" loudily asked Josef Bronman, the star reporter of the Quebec Broadcasting Corporation/Radio-Quebec(QBC/RQ).

Robert Smith tried to ignore the pressure replied with calmness and confidence in his voice, which covered the nervousness that was hidden inside his mind at the moment.
"The Hockey Quebec and myself have concluded that the Mr. Darren Hunter and 2 Quebecois fans' actions are unneeded, ignorant and un-sportsmanship. Therefore, THe Hockey Quebec officially condemns the action and the people who have committed this act of mass murder against members of Narsoran National Hockey Team. Until further notice, Darren Hunter is permanently banned from any Ice Hockey matches and leagues that are under the control of Hockey Quebec, which includes the Quebec Hockey League that he is in right now."

"Then, what will happen to the contract that he signed up for the Jets?" a reporter from The Goose Bay Daily, which had the news on the front page, as one of their main players are affected by this change.
"His 3-year contract with the Goose Bay Jets of the Quebec Hockey League will be nullified, as Mr. Hunter is no longer eligible for playing in Quebec Hockey League." Robert replied, bowed to the reporters and left what was brief news conference.

"...a goal from Tuveen is enough, and with that, Plutoni are the winners! Why don't we celebrate with a nice cold Chanzer beer?"

"Um. Steve."

"Chanzer beer! For all your celebratory needs."

"Steve?"

"Admittedly, most of the beer here is pretty cold. I don't think beer getting too warm is one of our problems. But--"

"Steve..."

"Shall I get you a can too?"

"We're not actually on the air."

"Nope."

"So you don't have to be slipping into beer-advertisement mode."

"But I like beer."

"Don't we all. But seriously, you don't need to advertise it when there's not a lot of people around to listen."

"Do you have something against the free market?"

"No! Of course not! Just...that's not necessary."

"Becasue...actually, that's the thing, isn't it? The market being free, and all that."

"Come again?"

"No, that's it. Plutoni, there's barely much of a government at all..."

"Actually, don't, just drink your beer."

"No, that's it. Plutoni, there's barely much of a government at all. Anything you do to try and change things--you can try and create your own institution, your own little structure on your own, and maybe it'll catch on. But you can't get other people to follow along with you because they're already free."

"On further review, go ahead and drink more of your beer."

"Can't, bottomed out. How about another can of Chanzer beer...yes...for celebrating...things."

"You really need to find more friends to get drunk with."

"Char...people don't wanna...wanna feel part of it, to get separate...no point, already...Friends? I've got...is a problem, don't like to...robots not drinking good."

"Okay, Steve, that's enough."

Make-or-Break Game for Havl

Pembina, Kelssek – Havl’s national hockey team earned an important victory over group-leading Free South Califas today in the World Cup of Hockey. The Havl squad defeated the 43rd-ranked team in a do-or-die scenario to see which teams will advance to the round of 16. "I love big games like this," said team captain Justin Donndelinger. The Capital City native was held scoreless in a game that saw Havl’s second and fourth lines carry the team to victory. “We have guys on each line that can step up,” said Coach Nicklas Lindberg. “I’ve said it before, but these guys are playing their roles and grinding it out every time.”

Much of the credit was heaped on goaltender Davis Rich, who earned his third shutout in six games. The Capital City native has put up impressive numbers, including an average of less than one goal per game. During last season’s Solo Cup season, Rich forsook his classic hybrid style for a more modern butterfly approach “There’s not a lot of time between the HHL season and the World Cup,” said Rich. “But I’ve been working on my new technique with [Capital City goaltending coach] Ed Berrodier, adding new tricks to my tool bag.” For over a decade, Rich made highlight reels with his aerobatic reactive saves. He could often be seen on his back to make a save with his leg pads in the air. But the nine-time all-star put up record numbers last season with his less exciting (but more effective) butterfly. “He’s boring to watch now,” joked Rich’s teammate, Brian Demerson. “He doesn’t have to make desperation saves because he’s always in the right place.”

In the game against Free South Califas, Kelly Serio earned his second goal of the tournament early in the second to put Havl in the lead. Elliot Plitt notched his first goal late in the second to add some insurance. Free South Califas added some pressure in the third when a series of penalties saw the Havl squad down a man for nearly half the period. “They’re a great team,” said Lindberg. “They’re fighting hard, and [Rich] was able to stop them.” In the end, Rich stopped twenty-five shots, earning a 96.8% save percentage after six games. “I had a great game, sure,” said Rich. “Don’t forget that it’s not just me out there, though. Our defense was tight.”

The win today brought Havl within two points of group leader Soviet Canuckistan in the tournament ranking. The top two teams in each of the eight groups will advance to the round of 16. As it stands, Havl needs a victory or Free South Califas has to lose or tie to guarantee advancement. In the last game, Free South Califas will face winless Paxomnua and Soviet Canuckistan will face languishing Mashiki. Havl will be playing against #99-ranked Gallund to try to earn a ticket to the next round.

Coverage of World Cup of Hockey XIX will continue live on HTVM Monday evening when Havl will face off against Gallund.

Back on Track!

KELSSEK- The Soviet Canuckistani mens hockey beat Gallund 6-1 in their second last round robin game at WCOH 20. The first period had action right from the start with Petrovski walking right past the defence and potting himself a goal at 19:24. However that wasn't all as the Canuckistani team potted two more goals in the next two minutes at 18:03 and 17:36 with LaTrappe and Virilini getting the points on those. Gallund finally responded in the second with Alex Gigandet just sliding it by the Canuckistani netminder at 10:12. However, the Canuckistani offence continued to poud Gallund in the third with Kampf getting an amazing shot by dumping it in from the blue line at 12:36. Sijeppe got one past Gallund's netminder at 6:34 with a point shot to make things 5-1. The final blow was delivered by Ioeusci at 3:23 to secure the 6-1 Canuckistani victory.

We talked to Pieter Sijeppe after the game and he told us, "It was a good game, played well. Defence did amazing along with our offence. Nothing that I can complain about. Hopefully everything goes well and we qualify for the playoffs." You can catch the last game of the round robin on any of our affiliates and we hope to report back to you again from Kelssek soon.

With one game to go, the surprising Ice Mice have slipped, slithered and slid just past opponents one game after the next, and find themselves in position to qualify in their second attempt. The team's positive play is no surprise, given the recent economic boom in the FSC hockey industry and the attendant professionalization of the Federal Team, but that only Havl have been able to beat them is more unexpected. No one underestimates the Mice now, and they could still sputter out of playoff contention with a bad result.

OOC: Sorry, but I wanted non zero RP bonus this time, and inspiration has yet to strike.

The final shot went in for Kericia and Birolika not only lost, but they were als eliminated. It was really a saddening follow up to the heart lifting campaign of last cup and left Birolik fans in tears, they had been eliminated by a lowly unranked team and they realised how Audioslavia felt last time around. Not only did this end our campaign, it will probably put us back down the rankings leading to us struggling in the next cup. One fan however found himself angered by this, he decided to go off on a mission.

His name was John Revitrix and he had the pasty face of a bowl of porridge leaking over a table in an interesting shape. His ears had all the visual qualities of cauliflowers and the ability to hear of cauliflower as well. He wore a practical, worn and tattered fleece with jeans faded by years of rain, wind and cheap detergent. He walked out of the stands in what was possibly Latrobe and began to walk towards the train stop. From there he realised that the Velocit line wasn't yet running from Latrobe, so instead he decided to catch a bus which took a considerable amount of time. 6 hours later he realised he had gotten onto the wrong bus and ended up in Noreiga a fair while later, a bit of a backwater town by Kelssekian standards (although a metropolis by Birolik ones). Eventually he found himself hitchhiking off to Ulyanov, which was a fair stretch from where he wished to be. A few days later he found himself in Kirkenes, which was roughly where he needed to be.

It took another few days to find a small boat willing to take him to such a place, it was of course close to suicidal. The waters of the pacific were not kind to him and he found himself spending roughly two of the three weeks vomiting and the other week saying "Oh god no, not more!". Eventually the boat landed on the small, grey beach with rain trickling from the sky and beating his head. He walked along the twisting, gravel road up the hill to a small house on top. He was on the small island off the coast of the ancient, now silent nation of Snub Nose 38. He knocked on the door and it was opened by a angry, bitter, yet saintly female who seemed to have no age. He opened his mouth and uttered a phrase that would echo through time like sun light off a mirror:

"THAT WASN'T FUNNY!" He shouted and slammed the door shut. With that he headed back home and drank what was left of the beer before being lifted up to Birolik heaven, as it is also our HOF.
With the abolition of private property, then, we shall have true, beautiful, healthy Individualism. Nobody will waste his life in accumulating things, and the symbols for things. One will live. To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all.

Group stage sweep

A victory over Lymantatia saw Plutoni advance to the knockout stages with a perfect record. Greg Dimuse opened the scoring for Plutoni with a goal 6:58 in, of a pass from Mashir Kletch. Lymantatia would stay in the game early on, equalizing seven minutes later through Edwin Woo, but they tired after that and early in the third period, Stav Hempsin was able to blast a long goal past Marcus Landau. Plutoni will face Mohawk Clans, who came second in Group 8, in the round of sixteen.

Comments:
1. stelma00: second in g8 doesn't tell it, they had Mapletish who were the only other perfect team, AND Birolika...who they only beat on the h2h, which was GWS anyway
2. sommersault: what is GWS
3. dawgyo: game winning shots...? idiot
4: flaps: hey knock it off i dould use some game wining shots to take right now if you know what i mean
5. dawgyo: you are clearly not drunk enough, my friend
6. flaps: lmee fix that
7. CHANZER: Need to celebrate? Check out Chanzer Beer, for all your celebratory needs! Proudly brewed right here in Char.
8. stelma00: ^ i swear the bots are regressing
9. downtownMonk: why would you be proud of brewing your beer in char nayywy, ia a net, doesn't matter whree you are you can still read this
10. dawgyo: Guys, we do have the preview buttons for reasons.
11. downtownMonk: says you, honestly, lrn2pageup

(Meanwhile, flaps, having acquired sufficient amounts of celebratory beer, tries and fails to remember his password, and is eventually locked out of the system for his own good. There are more elaborate ways of identification in Plutoni, of course, but this blog has always been one to keep it a little bit old-school.)

Jesper gulped, trying to pretend this was just a regular press conference, and fiddled with his uniform for one last time before stepping up to the podium, underneath the huge Arvika Police insignia. There were a lot more cameras and flashes than usual. He summoned all the dignity, gravitas and composure he could.

"This afternoon, Mr. Darren Hunter and Mr. Eric Leblanc appeared in Provincial Court and were each charged with first-degree murder. They have also been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unlawful possession of ammunition. Given the seriousness of these charges and that both the accused were considered to pose a flight risk, it was ordered that they be remanded into custody. They will be held at the Pretrial Services Centre in Torkus pending further proceedings. I do not have any information as to whether a plea was entered, so please contact the courthouse or their legal counsel for comment on that."

"A third person, Mr. Devin Shaw, has been confirmed dead after a firefight involving officers of the Arvika Police Special Response Squad. As is usual with incidents causing death or serious injury involving police action, this matter is now under investigation by the Federal Independent Investigations Unit. Therefore we cannot comment any further on this matter." Jesper looked up to see a sharply-dressed woman waiting in the wings, and his boss beckoning him off.

"That is all I can tell you right now. Thank you."

The woman introduced herself. "My name is Morgan Cook, media relations officer for the federal Ministry of the Interior. While the case is being handled in the normal manner by the relevant courts, our office will remain engaged with this matter due to the high profile of the incident that took place in Arvika.

"Mr. Hunter and Mr. Leblanc will be given a fair trial in accordance with the laws of this country as any other person accused of such offences would be. They have been and will continue to be given access to legal counsel and to consular officials with their country's diplomatic service, in accordance with protocol."

"It is our understanding that should they be convicted of the equivalent murder offence in their home country, they would be subject to the death penalty. As you know it is illegal for the government of Kelssek to extradite or deport any person to a country where there is reasonable grounds to believe they would risk being executed. We would expect that as with any foreign citizen they would serve their sentence in our corrections system unless and until specific arrangements with their country of nationality are made. This is a matter that will have to be dealt with in due course. We must remember that Mr. Hunter and Mr. Leblance are innocent until proven guilty."

"I can also inform the press that the Minister has specifically directed the National Mounted Police to investigate how the firearms used in the incident came to be in the country and how they were able to obtain them. We work hard every day to keep these weapons out of our country and to keep our towns and cities free of guns. I want to reassure Kelssekians that we remain vigilant, and I have every trust in the ability of our police to keep us safe. We witnessed the bravery of the Arvika Police yesterday and this speaks to the professionalism and courage of the men and women in the service, in Arvika and across the country. There is no need to fear because of their dedication to uphold the law.

Thank you and good day."

Make-or-Break Game for Havl

Vickery, Kelssek – In a close match, Havl’s national hockey team clinched entrance to the Round of 16 in World Cup of Hockey XX. The victory over Gallund today mathematically eliminated 43rd-ranked Free South Califas. Havl will be joined in the next round by WCoH XIX rivals Soviet Canuckistan. “It’s our mantra; just play to win,” said team captain Justin Donndelinger. “It was a really big game, but we’re all used to pressure situations.”

Image
Davis Rich earned his sixth win in seven games.

Left-winger Gilles Lecompte earned an early goal on Havl’s first powerplay. Later in the second, center Bryan Hoffler knocked in a pass from Armando Bartoletti to put the team up by two. Goaltender Davis Rich gave another all-star performance, stopping 24 of 25 shots to secure a 0.86 goals-against average in the opening round. The Capital City native is expected to start in the Ro16 match against 13th-ranked Yesopalitha. “They’re a good squad,” said coach Nicklas Lindberg. “[Yesopalitha] has a strong history in the World Cup, but this is our second-consecutive trip to the Round of 16. I wouldn’t count us out.”

In tournament group play, Yesopalitha earned 16 points with three wins, three overtime wins, and one tie. Although Havl earned more points, the Capital City-based squad will play the role of underdog to the higher-ranked Yesopalitha. “It’s all very esoteric,” said defenseman Brian Beierle. “One team may be better on paper, but there’s a reason tournaments are played and not calculated. The best team has to earn that title.” Soviet Canuckistan will face Svengarda in their first-round match.

Coverage of World Cup of Hockey XIX will continue live on HTVM Tuesday evening when Havl will face off against Yesopalitha in the single-elimination Round of 16.

MESSAGE: First, I would like to apologize for my failure to connect with you throughout the first stage of our operations here in [CLASSIFIED]. Communications have been particularly difficult to control here, and my officers and I have been forced to resort to a general stoppage of transmissions between [CLASSIFIED] and the homelands. Since imposing the general censor, we have discovered a method of communicating without lowering the virtual barrier.

As you requested prior to our departure from the homelands, I will be sending you daily reports on the successes, failures, and general behavior of our operatives throughout the remainder of the tournament. I will refer only to the physical appearances of the operatives as their identities must remain anonymous.

Our operations began against the force codenamed “Brevity”. The performance of our squad was slightly below acceptable levels, but the result was still satisfactory. Only one hit was registered against the “Brevity” team, but it was enough to provide us with a positive result.

The next force our operatives faced was that dubbed “Secondary” by our encryption team. Operations went relatively smoothly for approximately 30 minutes; however our defensive wall eventually collapsed and allowed the enemy to score one hit on our side. For the most part, the mission should be considered successful despite our defeat, taking into account the prowess of the “Secondary” squad.

Our third mission was against a little-known, ill-prepared squad appropriately named “Unknown Beta”. Six direct hits were scored by our operatives on “Unknown Beta” in less than 20 minutes. For the remainder of the operation, our agents seemed to toy with the opposing force. This allowed for three strikes to be scored against us, but the final result was an acceptable 6-3 tally in our favor. Responding to the failures of our team in the later stages of the mission, guards under my command disciplined the responsible agents following the conclusion of the operation.

At the middle of the first stage of our operations here in [CLASSIFIED], our agents were pitted against the “Infected”, who also are relatively unknown in the international community. The result was a narrow 3-2 success for our players, who staged an unnecessarily dramatic comeback in the closing minutes of operations. The agent typically at the rear end of our force’s defensive group adopted the form of a hedgehog in the first several minutes of operations, allowing essentially an open net. However, after permitting two goals, the agent transformed into a grizzly bear and blocked every attempted strike. Disciplinary actions were also taken against the responsible player following the match to deter further antics.

The following day saw yet another clean finish for our agents, who successfully topped the low-ranked “Variable” squad with a final result of 1-0. Little of note occurred during this match aside from a particularly nasty-looking check by an agent assuming the form of a small dragon. No internal disciplinary actions were taken as the hit was acceptable to our operations staff. The match officials seemed to disagree and sent the agent off the ice for several minutes.

Our most significant operation came against the “Twins” squad, resulting in a decisive 1-0 success. The result ensured the team’s advancement out of the first stage of the operation and allowed for us to relax the next (and most recent) match.

Apparently, our agents’ method of relaxation is to give beatings to opposing squads. The “Star Vega” team was no match for the agents’ abilities on the offensive, allowing our squad to slam five shots past their inept ‘tender.

Our next operation will be against the “Tree Fish”, who have had a 100% success rate thus far in the competition. Our objective will be to crush them using our operatives’ superior size and strength.

I trust that additional security precautions are being taken on your end to preserve the secrecy of our presence here. The tech ponies have assured me that all broadcasts towards the North Pony Lands regarding this tournament are being jammed, so we are in the clear at the moment unless unexpected events have developed on your end.

I will report back to you tomorrow with our next operation summary.

Sincerely,
[CLASSIFIED]

MESSAGE: Warden,

Your failure to properly communicate with this team’s leadership in the homelands is entirely unacceptable. During your blackout, the NESC lost control of the national Olympic team and the newly-formed ESOC intends to send an ice hockey team to participate in the upcoming games in Liventia. I have no way to prevent them from doing so, and will risk exposure should I attempt to hinder the participation of an actual national team.

Our agents have already been far too successful and risk discovery should our team gather any more attention with successes. I do not need to emphasize to you how much such a discovery must be avoided. You are hereby authorized and ordered to utilize any methods necessary to ensure the failure of our operatives in their upcoming match. The experiment that has been Outbound teams must be terminated immediately.

Do not fail me again, Warden. Serious consequences will be required should this team meet with any further success on the international stage.

To the playoffs we go

KELSSEK- The Canuckistani Mens National Ice Hockey team beat Mashiki 7-2 to advance to the playoffs in the last round robin game of WCOH 20. The first period was not a good start for the Canuckistanis as early on both of Mashiki's goals, at 13:23 and 6:45, were scored then putting the Canuckistanis back 2-0 after 20 minutes of regulation play. However the second period was a vast improvement with the Canuckistani team managing to tie it back up 2-2 with Farnsworth scoring off a beautiful breakaway at 14:23 and Mistrenko walking around Mashiki's defence at 5:12. In the third, Mashiki's defence collapsed with 5 Canuckistanis goals being scored. Farnsworth earned his second goal of the game at 18:34 with a beautiful wristshot from the hashmarks through the goalie's five-hole. Plovin earned his first of the tournament with a nice slap-shot from high in the attacking zone at 16:17. van Key continued the offensive assault by earning the Canuckistani's fifth goal at 12:32 by bouncing it off the goalie's back pad from the goal line near the board at 9:13. Canuckistan's star player Polomaniuk even managed to get one in at 7:52 by just passing the puck over the goalie's glove. The last goal of the game was scored by Dubruch at 4:36 after a quick deke to get it to the back of the net.

We talked to the team captain Stephan Polomaniuk post-game and he told us, "An awesome end there to the round robin. A rocky start but we persevered and came through in the end. The whole team played a good game and hopefully this can continue into the playoffs. Svengarda will be a challenge but if we persevere, I'm sure we can get past them." You can catch tomorrow's Round of 16 game from Llandewi Brewi, Kelssek live on all of our subsidiaries. This game will be one of the most important for this team all year so don't miss it.

That was a close call

Llandewi Brewi, Kelssek- The Canuckistani mens hockey team won today after an exciting 3-2 overtime victory against Svengarda in WCOH 20's Round of 16. The first period was a tough on for the Canuckistanis with Svengarda gaining the lead early at 17:26 with Eiríkur Seppä managing to find the back of the net. However, the Canuckistanis couldn't respond and the period concluded with a 1-0 Svengarda lead. The second period was only a little better with the Canuckistani's getting on the board at 12:55 with Mistrenko lighting up the red light by walking right past Svengarda's defence. Svengarda responded though at 2:12 with Friðrik Partanen earning his team a second goal off a breakaway. It was a race for the Canuckistanis to earn that tying goal with frantic defence and a powerful offensive push. All those efforts paid off as Smith scored the tying goal after finding a space between the goalie's arm and leg at 6:46. Neither team scored again in regulation sending the game to overtime. As fans counted down those last 10 seconds of the game with Petrovski with a breakaway. As the clock counted down 5...4... the sound of the arena filled with roaring fans and a loud goal horn as Soviet Canuckistan won the game.

We interviewed Sgt. Petrovski after the game and he told us, "Just like the games before we persevered. We played well especially our defence in the third protecting our net. Mapletish will be a tough game for us and if we play well who knows we might make it to the semifinals." However, not all the action was in Kelssek as 2,300 fans crowded outside the Sailfish Airlines Center in Moscawa to watch the game. The crowd was electric as the Canuckistanis won with chants ringing into the cold winter skies and fireworks illuminating the crowd below. Tomorrow's Quarterfinal match can be caught on our subsidiaries live so don't miss it.

"...a single goal from Hethgard was enough to see Plutoni take on the Mohawk Clans, seventh seeds in the tournament despite no longer existing."

"Well it stands to reason, they don't seem like they'd ever have been that united of a place as it is."

"Eh?"

"Clans? Plural? If there's not even a single polity then it's no wonder they fell apart. Maybe the individual clans are still there, I mean, whatever team was out there was a pretty firm test."

"I don't think so, Clive."

"I mean, Hethgard got lucky, exceptional pass from Trilum. And really, it was Fozer who was keeping us in the game that whole time."

"Fozer was very impressive, yes, Clive, but--"

"Meaning no disrespect to the opposing goalkeeper, who really played a fantastic game after that goal, just buckled down, but it was too late--"

"Clive, Plutoni is an anarchy, there's not much in the way of a state at all. And yet have we ever looked like we were at risk for ceasing to exist?"

"Not exactly, Steve."

"I mean I'm as proud of Char as the next person, but on balance, even I can see that we might be just as well part of Plutoni."

"No you're not, Steve."

"What? Are you questioning my understanding?"

"No, Steve."

"Then what's up?"

"You're not as proud of Char as the next person, Steve, because the next person over is me. And I'm not proud of Char, seeing as how I'm not from it."

"Oh."

"Right, up next, a preview of the Havl game, complete with catchy and very annoying theme music. Don't go anywhere."

"I can't, Clive."

"I wasn't talking to--did you glue your butt to the chair or something?"

"No, I mean, it just isn't allowed in my contract."

"Your contract has to spell out when you can't take breaks...oh what did I ever do to deserve this?"

"Well there was that incident with the tortoise and the--"

"That will be all, Steve."

Havl Faces Biggest Challenge Yet

Latrobe, Kelssek – In a do-or-die match, Havl came out ahead of 13th-ranked Yesopalitha 2-1 to earn a spot in the quarterfinals of the World Cup of Hockey. The closely-matched teams battled through two scoreless periods, setting up a tight third period that saw three goals, including the game-winner from first line winger Brian Demerson. "[Donndelinger] set up a beautiful pass," said Demerson after the game. "I just knocked it in." For the third straight game, Havl was limited to two goals. But the trademark defense of coach Nicklas Lindberg kept Yesopalitha at bay. "Same thing I've always said; treat each possession as a game-winning possession," said Lindberg.

Hugh Monteith evened the score in the third period.

The win today means that the team will be heading to the quarterfinals for the second time despite only appearing in two World Cups. "Maybe it's beginner's luck," said team captain Justin Donndelinger. "We're not ready to stop playing just yet." The Solo Cup-winning Davenport native played a crucial role in the second period when he deflected a shot from a Yesopalitha forward during an odd-man rush. "We were all out of position," said Donndelinger. The shot struck Donndelinger in the jaw, and he was sidelined for the rest of the period. "It looked pretty serious," said defenseman Brian Beierle. But Donndelinger returned in the third and made a pass from behind the net to Demerson for the game-winning assist. "We've played together so much, it's just ingrained in our brains," said Donndelinger.

Early in the third period, Yesopalitha scored on a one-timer from the slot to take the lead. With less than half the period remaining, Hugh Monteith scored an equalizer, his first goal of the tournament. "I'm not used to going this long without a goal," said Monteith. "But I'm picking up on my role on the third line. It's nice to score a big goal like that." With less than two minutes to go, Yesopalitha pulled its goalie in desperation, and goaltender Davis Rich nearly scored when an attempt to clear the puck took a lucky bounce. "I didn't even notice it, to be honest," said Rich. "Don't get me wrong; I'd be the happiest guy if I scored a goal, but it wasn't my plan."

The Havl squad now prepares to face Plutoni in the quarterfinals. Plutoni, the second-ranked team in the world, defeated Mohawk Clans on the strength of a shutout from goalie Byley Fozer and a game-winner from Plutoni's second-most active goals leader, Brandle Hethgard. Although the Plutoni team boasts a number of robots, Coach Lindberg's plan remains the same. "It don't matter if you're playing against robots, dwarves, or anthropomorphic cats," said Lindberg. "Hockey is the great equalizer. You play the best you can with the best players you've got." However, Beierle issued a slight concern after watching the Plutoni/Mohawk Clans game. "That second line is almost all robots," said Beierle. "And they're the highest-scoring line on the team. It's going to take a while to get used to seeing that."

Coverage of World Cup of Hockey XX will continue live on HTVM Tuesday evening when Havl will face off against Plutoni in the single-elimination quarterfinals.

Take THAT! ...ian

By Booker Purvis

The Ice Falcons are back! After that little debacle in the Nineteenth World Cup of Hockey, they have stormed through the group stage without a single draw or loss--including a nice win over the hosts and top-ranked squad, Kelssek. Most recently, however, was their old sparring partner and forever-equal Thatius. In their debut WCoH, the Ice Falcons faced the Thatians twice, both matches ending in 3-3 draws. The Falconian defense managed itself a little better this time around, only allowing a single goal. Said goal was what opened scoring in the first period, a great close-range flick by Aleksy Knežević that found the right side of the net just under Jeremy Scherzer's glove. Aaran Ashby responded quickly with a one-timer through Martin Koranović's five hole, following a series of rapid passes that bounced from Scherzer to Joseph Üntermensch to Wilhelm von Üshter to Ashby. The second period saw the tie remain untouched, the teams playing at roughly the same level; the Falconian offense was stronger, but the Thatian defense equaled it and Koranović had the steady stream of shots well under control. The third period started off on the wrong foot for the Falconians, the Thatians coming out quick and putting Scherzer under a barrage of shots; he did admirably well, blocking four rebounds (plus the initial shot) before Payne Aldrich finally muscled inside and cleared the puck. The Thatian defense reigned in the clearance and launched another attack, but Kyle Bosche stuck a stick between Drew Fjordgaar's legs and knocked the puck loose (without touching him! Bosche prides himself on fancy stickwork). Turis von Guelch was there to corral the loose puck and slapped it up to Ci-ga Iwa'oa, rumored to be that once-in-a-generation star to come out of the Ice Jungles in southern Falconwhereveryouare and not without good reason, who slapped it past Koranović to put the Ice Falcons up 2-1. The defense held from there-on out and the Ice Falcons secured their ticket back into the quarterfinals.

Havl Survives; Faces Michael VII in Semifinal

Redswyth, Kelssek – A sea of dark-blue jerseys greeted Havl's national hockey team as they landed at Kieran Pearson International Airport early Wednesday morning. A throng of hockey fans from Davenport, Havl, were gathered among nearly fifty other fans to catch a glimpse of the headstrong young squad. "You've got to support the team," said David Westinghouse, who flew with seven of his friends to watch Havl compete in the World Cup of Hockey. "They've come so far in this tournament, and we want to see them go all the way." Westinghouse and his friends joined hundreds of Kelssek-bound travelers who packed Exhibition Arena to capacity attendance.

Brian Beierle earned Havl a controversial powerplay late in the third period.

In a closely-matched quarterfinal against powerhouse Plutoni, Havl's squad didn't disappoint, outplaying one of the world's best hockey teams to earn a spot in the World Cup's semifinals on Friday. "It's unbelieveable," said team captain Justin Donndelinger, who scored his third goal of the tournament in Wednesday's game. "When you're playing against a team like Plutoni, it's easy to get overwhelmed." But Coach Lindberg and his hungry young team were able to keep pace with the team ranked second in the world, despite an early goal from Plutoni winger Resska Luskee that caused the Plutoni-heavy crowd to erupt. "[Plutoni] had the early momentum," said Lindberg. "But we've played in pressure situations before, and I told the boys to think play-to-play."

The second period saw inspired play by Havl's scoring lines, including Guy Allender's first goal of the tournament on a crisp pass from linemate Darryl Matousek. "It felt good," said Harleston-native Allender. "We were behind at that point, so the goal gave us momentum." Later in the second, Gilles Lecompte connected on a powerplay goal to move Havl into the lead. "Leading Plutoni was a great feeling," said Lecompte. "We try not to think about the scope of that game like that, but that goal really changed the emotion in the building, and we could all feel it."

The teams continued their tightly-controlled match for most of the third period until a controversial call on Plutoni forward Bainten Calvor gave Havl a late powerplay. "[Calvor] was gunning for me," said Beierle. "It's hard to skate away when someone's playing like that, but in the end, it is what it is." Beierle and Calvor had been fighting for the puck in the corners of the Havl end of the rink for most of the game, and Beierle appeared to skate into a misguided check from the Plutoni forward that drew a five-minute boarding call from the referees. "Some people are going to say that I flopped, but it was a legitimate call," said Beierle. With less than ten minutes left in the half, Donndelinger led a leisurely, pass-heavy powerplay that saw Plutoni goaltender Byley Fozer stop five consecutive shots. Donndelinger whipped a quick wristshot on the sixth attempt that sailed past Fozer for a two-goal lead.

When the buzzer sounded, both teams shook hands on the ice. Havl goaltender Davis Rich skated over to talk to Fozer before the Plutoni squad headed to the locker rooms. "[Fozer] was fantastic to watch in the gold medal games four years ago," said Rich. "I just wanted to say 'good game' and 'hope to see you in four years.'" The Davenport Pilots goalie continued his streak of strong play, once again keeping the opposing team to one goal. "At this level, it's hard to believe what we've been able to accomplish," said Rich. "The D-line is limiting opposing shots; I don't have to face many tough situations in most games." Corners of the arena chanted "MVP" as Rich skated off the ice. Rich's teammates have frequently complimented his play, and many hope he will return for World Cup XXI. "It's a long time from now," said Rich. "For now, we're just looking forward to the game against Michael VII."

Coverage of World Cup of Hockey XX will continue live on HTVM Friday evening when Havl will face off against 21st-ranked Michael VII in the semifinals at Air Kelssek Centre.

"...and in sports, the national ice hockey team were eliminated in the quarterfinals after a hard-fought 3-1 game against Havl. Steve?"

"Indeed it was, and you have to hand it to an extremely well-organized Havl side. After the stunning Birolika performance last time about, we're seeing a move for competitive balance, I guess, from a team with a lot of depth and talent."

"Though let's be clear; it was Plutoni who got out to the early lead, throught Resska Luskee. It wasn't until the second period that Guy Allender and then Gilles Lecompte would turn the game in Havl's favor."

"Right, and then--with Plutoni already trailing, Bainten Calvor's penalty against Brian Beierle would set up a powerplay, and you know it was an arguable call. But we had it coming, I've been saying all along, you're taking that risk with the Gunners. And no doubt it works for them, second place last season! But there's a risk there."

"Nope."

"Nope what? Are you just being patriotic? Because first of all, that didn't change the outcome of the game, secondly, it was the right call--"

"No, you have not been talking about the risks the Gunners take all along. In fact this is the first time you've brought it up."

"Oh. Well then. Be that as it may, captain Justin Donndelinger scored the third goal, and somewhat irrelevant as you've mentioned, and Havl move on to face Michael VII in the semifinal."

"Qazox will play Mapletish in the other one."

"Yep. And, from our end, that concludes our coverage of team Plutoni for this tournament, and you'd better hand it to us--we've gotten all the way through without having to delegate the newscasting job to robots."

"They keep glitching, but they're probably still more on-topic than Steve here."

"Hey...was that an insult?"

"Hats off to Havl for a job well done but I think we should probably sign off, like, right about now."
