Morridanes Go Through!

Lady Luck has proven herself to be sided with the Morridanes this as their performance is a very noticeable improvement compared to their first appearance on the international scene in the First Dienstad Cup.

Many hope that the team will go from strength-to-strength and make it into the Top Three that they were just shy off in the last Cup. But it has to be noted that support for the team has grown tenfold with many pubs packed-out and large crowds gathering round any available radio set. Whilst for the time being the team can expect a Hero's Homecoming, it'll be a bitter pill to swallow if they screw up.

Lamoni coasts through to knock-outs

As some of the more outspoken Lamonian fans predicted from the beginning, the Hawks have achieved a no-loss group stage, with the only blemish being a 2-2 draw against Morrdh. This winning record easily places the Hawks at first place in group five, and gives them an excellent start to their first knock-out match, which will be played against Fillosankiavo, a squad which the Hawks have not yet faced. Fillosankiavo finished third in Group 3, with a slightly disappointing eight points of a total 18.

The Lamonian Times also offered up a prediction of who would win the first day of knock-out matches, and we have obtained the rights to reprint their predictions for you here.

Independent Hitmen vs. Tir

The People's Freedom vs. Latransylvania

Dostanuout Loj vs. The Macabees

Adaptes Astrates vs. Uiri

Ecrip Yelsha vs. Tadjikistan

Stevid vs. Nullepartia

Greal vs. Yanitaria

Svitlijrika vs. San Castello

Scodson vs. Wanderjar

Erid Lor vs. Nus Antara

Cazelia vs. Regulus Sirius

Vandaheim vs. Morrdh

Indras vs. Sovereign Theocracies

Lamoni vs. Fillosankiavo

Transeden vs. United States of PA

Varessa vs. Maldorians

Those nations who are in bold are those that are expected to win their respective match, with these results being based on both results from the first Dienstad Cup, as well as group stage rankings from Dienstad Cup II.

With the Lamonian victory in the first Dienstad Cup, the Hawks are looking quite forward to a repeat performance, even if their prior international footballing experience has taught them that a cup defense is very hard to do indeed. However, the group stage results are very encouraging, and the Hawks have faced more than a few of the remaining teams before. While it would be highly unlikely (statistically speaking), the Hawks could even see a rematch against Uiri on their way to win the second Dienstad Cup. Of course, the Lamonians will also be watching the performance of the Maccabean squad with much interest, considering that the Hawks were the ones to stop their cup chances the last go around.

The Stevidian national team came up trumps when it mattered with a crushing 4-1 win at Stevid against Yanitaria. While the national team's place in the next round was never in much doubt, the end of the group stage has ended with a lovely flourish. The national team have been above average throughout but with certainly have to improve in the later stages of the competition if a respectable final position is to be gained.

Odds are on for Stevid to progess to the next round after been drawn to Nullepartia who only just qualified by finishing 3rd in Group 3. Their final tally of 4 points and dreadful goal difference of -7 got them through only by the bibically bad performance of the Telros national team who also achieved 4 points but with a -15 goal difference.

Upsets can happen but Stevid will feel confident going into the next round against an underperforming team.
