World Championships of Water Skiing (CLOSED)

Postby Shadowbourne » Sat Nov 03, 2012 8:09 am

Hello, and welcome to the official sign up thread of the World Championships of Water Skiing. The competition will include a total of 8 events: Slalom, Men's Tricks, Men's Jumping, Men's Wakeboarding, and the same for the women. Please enter a maximum of two contestants per medium. Contestants can compete in more than one competition. Each contestant must have a skill modifier between 0 and 100. The average of all your entrants must be 50. You do not have to enter every event. For example:

Men' Tricks: Joe Smith (50), John Jones (100)
Men's Jumping: Bill Johnson (25), Joe Smith (75)
Women's Wakeboarding: Sally Smith (0), Jane Jones (50)

Right now, I am currently hosting a korfball tournament. However, once that is over, I will begin this one. As of now, this is sign ups only. I don't know how many contestants I will end the sign ups at, but I will decide after getting an idea of the interest in such a tournament. Assuming we get a decent turnout, each event will consist of a qualifying and a finals round. All events will be scorinated using the latest version of xkoranate.

Shadowbourne, why are you creating all these tournaments? You are setting up your second, or third, tournament on these forums.

Sort of a trial-by-error thing. I'm just trying to get some more experience with NS Sports.

OK. But you're still creating lots of tournaments.

May I remind you that you have been rather enthusiastic yourself in creating numerous tournaments while still quite new?

Yes, and you haven't said 'why', yet you ask the same question of Shadowbourne.

Veering away from this, I believe the reason some of your stuff isn't working is simply because of the potential to Roleplay. If you do intend to work by a Trial and Error systems, look to sports that have a popular following that could also allow for good RP's or series of RP's. If you want to avoid Football, then there's a whole world of Ball Sports (These tend to be more popular, whether it be Baseball, Basketball, Cricket, Rugby, Handball etc.).

Just my view on it all. ;)

If you want more experience on NS Sports, join some of these other tournaments. The World Baseball Classic is having sign-ups, why not sign-up for that? It'll give you a lot more RP experience. Just a suggestion.

I do admire your interest in putting tournaments altogether and playing around with the scorinator for quite a bit. However I do feel that you can make use of the domestic sporting thread that you have created and post your results and test tournaments in there. With that you do a look around in the NSSports forum and try to take a look at how tournaments are runned, participate in them, ask when you have questions. When you feel better prepared to hot a tournament, start small with around 8 participants or so and have fun scorinating it and stuff. So it takes time to build up experience though, so there is no need to rush, take one step at a time.

Surely running it with even minimal sign-ups would show dedication to hosting events? I mean, I'm in the same boat. I want to host, I have loads of ideas but no experience yet. I created 'Wol'bol World Championships' as a random idea (completely made-up sport), had only two additional people enter but I'm determined to finish the damn thing and then maybe start something new. Even if no-one's RPing in it, I can still say I hosted it and add it to my list of 'things I've hosted'.

Now, maybe some of the more established members of NSSports may disagree with my strategy. I don't know what the standard etiquette is for abandoning events.

Anyway, If you want additional competitors. I'm sure I can send a few.

Thanks for sending a few people. As much as I want to follow through on competitions, I pretty much considered this thread dead until a few days ago, so its not really my top priority right now in terms of NSSports. As for the Wol'bol thing, it actually looked pretty cool and I was going to sign up, but with the IBC and the WBC along with the other smaller tornaments like the Paradisian Cup going on, I was worried that I wouldn't have time to actually RP.
