Another Win in Beach Soccer

Jorge Ramirez

While soccer did not have its best day in Western Cuba association wise, beach soccer had a pretty good day. Emanuel Montero's new inexperienced team had its first test last night. While it was not anything amazing, it was something special and showed good signs for the new team. However though in order to get a three peat, they will have to play a lot better. But I'm not here to criticize for now.

Yesterday's game with West Guiana was filled with excitement. Two long time bench players finally got there first international start, and several new players got there first experiences in an international beach game also. It was something seeing Zambrano and Gonzalez play together. Both of them have been very good friends since joining the beach soccer national team and got to have there first start together. And I have to say, both of them had pretty good games, not great but good.

Zambrano found himself making good saves throughout the game and also gave out good distributions. Two of his would lead to goals by Yevtushenko. Who had an even bigger night than those two. Yevtushenko showed that in his full potential he can still be a part of the association football men's national team. The crazy part was that Yevtushenko was not even at his full potential last night.

Yevtushenko earned a hat trick last night against West Guiana, leading Western Cuba to victory. Yevtushenko would find himself earning man of the match titles. Yevtushenko was not the only forward that had a good night though. Tim Dawson would aid in Yevtushenko scoring two of his goals, giving Dawson two assists throughout the game. And the even crazier part, Tim Dawson is raw. He still has to grow with the game, I think once things settle for him he can become a monster scorer.

The bench played well for Western Cuba too. At the end of the game Montero subbed in Victor Gibles and Miguel Luna replacing Natal Gonzalez and Yevtushenko. Even though it was only for a few minutes both of them found themselves playing well. Gilbes looked quite comfortable after tearing his ACL not too long ago. And Miguel Luna had several close shots on goal.

So overall this new national team looks promising. I would like to applaud there coach, Montero for what he is doing with the team. He is giving second chances to many players, or chances that players have never gotten before. Like the case of Tim Dawson and Miguel Luna. This Beach Cup is set to be a classic, even if Western Cuba does not win.

First Win of the Season

MANGOLANA - Earlier today, in the wonderful nation that is Mangolana, the Luziycans played against Boyznichov, winning 7 to 6. Here are the highlights, as described here by our Sports columnist, Vladimir Kherkov.

Then, at 3:10, Boyznichov scores their first goal, and then at 11:56, Luziyca scores their last goal of the period. Luziyca has the head start here in the match.

At 5:08, Boyznichov will score the fourth goal that their team has, tying the score at 4:4. At 6:09, Boyznichov breaks the tie, bringing their status to 4:5. But, at 10:14, Luziyca scores the goal that ties the game, at 5:5, and was the last goal of the period.

Period Three: At 1:09, Boyznichov scores their last goal of today's match, bringing it to 5:6 for them. Just as we thought we'll lose, we then tie it at 9:08 at 6:6, and then at 11:52, finish the matchday at 7:6, defeating Boyznichov. It was not easy, but we did it.

Scores at the End of Period Three: 7:6

Yes, this communist nation that desperately tried to dope their athletes to win, had LOST! Maybe next time, they'll try to dope them with a STRONGER drug. Oh wait, they can't access them, they are communists!

So since West Guiana has been in the news for very negative reasons, my employers decided that the fans of the nation should at lest get some positive news for once, so here I am in Mangolana. I'm at the Beach Cup seven, that is beach soccer, not volleyball. It is the first time West Guiana has made a debut and so far we're two games in out of six and we're tied for second in Group F with a 1-0-1 record.

In match day one WG Beach Soccer Team played against Western Cuba, however despite playing a good hard game, the team would lose 2-3. But even so that should show the few fans beach soccer has in the nation that maybe good things may come our way.

For matchday two we played against Bloodbath Generation at Choo Cachoo Beach, Nirvana. What a beautiful place for a good game, the stadium it self wasn't filled to the brim. About 9,600 people filled the seats over half were Bloodbath fans. I can't say exactly how many WG fans there were, but I can say maybe there was 2,000 at most. Not many but those who cared to watch on TV got to see one hell of a game. In the ninth minute Flipe Lorenzo, being assisted by Gerge Norwood scored the teams first goal. Back in the fifteenth minute Flipe Lorenzo went at it again and with a nice headshot into the goal, WG goes up 2-0.

After the half, and for the first ten minutes not much happened, but Josh Hudson beings assisted by Sam Hoose scored in the thirty-second minute. Then in the thirty-ninth minute, despite being the defender Hoose scores the final goal of the game. West Guiana wins 4-0.

But before everyone decides to stop reading, the WG Beach Soccer Head Coach is non other than Mike Temist. Ah yes, Mr. Temist said he was done with soccer but maybe just regular soccer. Amazing so far he has a better winning percentage than he did through twelve years of coaching the WG Soccer team. But hey he's helping an upstart team in getting their footing on this world stage and that I commend him with.

Next up West Guiana plays 4 Riech who is last in the group, who got smeared by Bloodbath Generation 11-1 on match day one.

Group F Standings

Beach Cup: Match Day 2

After two matches, Ko-oren is second in their group, group C of the Beach Cup, following two wins. The other victors of the group so far are Sarrbia, who also have recorded two wins so far. Sarrbia's GD is +6, while Ko-oren's is +5. The true winner of this group will be decided in the next match, as the two teams take each other on.

In other groups, A is dominated by Vettrera so far, as they are the only team with 6 points. The same goes for Thatius in group B. Bergnovinaia is the only team so far without lost points in group D. Group E is so far the most entertaining group, with three teams on three points (Filopines, +3, VANTELIRA, +1, Darmen, 0). Western Cuba is top in Group F. Group G also has three teams in first place: The Icemark, Kazzoria and Hakkland all have three points, while TI has +3 GD, Kazzoria has +1 and Hakkland has -1. In Group H, Eastfeld Lodge and Homelands Our are both at 6 points, and they will take each other on next match.

Vettrera just may make a convincing run in this year's Beach Cup. Vettrera has currently racked up wins against 2nd & 3rd in the group (Mangolana & Luziyca). They will then face off against Boyznichov, where they hope to claim another win; reaching a clean sweep in this Group. Recently, Vettrera announced that a domestic soccer league will be developed after this tournament, based on the team's performance. Soccer, which has been a tier 2 sport recently in Vettrera, is beginning to develop into something greater. Hopefully, all of this means Vettrera is becoming a familiar face throughout the Sports Community

Los Niños Playa Win Once More

Jorge Ramirez

The Beach Boys took control in Game 2 in Group F, bringing three points to country once more. Western Cuba would cruise to a pretty comfortable victory against 4 Reich, who was looking for redemption after there disastrous lose against Bloodbath Generation. Western Cuba prevented redemption from happening and instead we secured three points and another victory.

And speaking of redemption, so far redemption may have come to Konstantin Yevtushenko. He had another outstanding game. This time Konstantin would score four goals for country, Tom Dawson and Miguel Luna would also score a goal a piece. Tom Dawson in the last paper was incorrectly called Tim by me and I apologize for that.

While Konstantin is not ready for the national team yet, I bet that Tumbes FC is surely regretting cutting him right now. Another club team must feel real stupid also. Tom Dawson in the past had attended an open tryout ran by the Havana City Titans but was cut on the first day. Which many believe is due to racism sadly enough.

The Titans are now probably punching themselves in the gut after seeing Dawson perform so far in this Beach Cup. In two games he has recorded one goal and five assists. And he would probably have a higher goal count if it was not for the factor of Konstantin playing forward along side him.

A scary moment did happen towards the end of the game though. With several minutes left Natal Gonzalez and Fausto Salvat would collide into each other. This was the reason 4 Riech managed to score one of there goals. As a huge gap was left in the defense when Gonzalez and Salvat went down. The collision was called a lack of communication. However many people are wondering if the noise level of the stadium the Beach Boys were playing in had something to do with it. With Gonzalez and Salvat both healthy though, the issue will most likely pass away.

With two straight wins Western Cuba is now sitting at the top of Group F. Three points below them is West Guiana and Bloodbath Generation, who Western Cuba faces tonight. The game is being broadcast on WCSN.

Before you put down the paper you should know about two other games in the Beach Cup happening tonight. Sarrbia, the two-time host of the Beach Cup will face Ko-oren. Both teams are currently undefeated in the group. In Group H, Eastfield Lodge and Homelands Our are facing against each other. This match up too features teams that are currently undefeated. Out of those four teams, two of them will end there streaks tonight.

But if you don't feel like watching all three of them just make sure to watch the Beach Boys play against Bloodbath Generation.

Defeated by the Hosts

MANGOLANA - Earlier today, Mangolana defeated our team, by 2:1. Despite the game, all of the scores were concentrated in the first two periods.

Period One: At 3:12, Luziyca scored their only goal, kicking the ball into the opposing goal. At 4:10 in the game, the Mangolanese scored the goal, tying it at 1:1, and then at 5:03, they scored their last goal.

Scores at the End of Period One: 1:2
Score for Period One: 1:2

Yes, the three periods had been played, but Mangolana scored 2 points and Luziyca 1, all in the First Period. Something like this just seems a bit... fishy, lets say. Already, plans are being made for a beach football league, a professional one with teams from Danzig, Gijirokastra, Yerevan, Jerusalem and Bethlehem planning on participating in the new beach football league. Informal games of beach football, are played and they are well... popular, just like Beach Cup VI.

Though Vettrera was expecting a victory when they played Boyznichov (who was considered to be the lowest performing team in the group) they were reduced to a 2-2 draw. Vettrera's head coach had the following to say: "Fatigue is beginning to settle in, but I want my team energized and well-rested. I believe we have what it takes to perform well in this competition despite the recent minor set-back. We couldn't come up with the win, but we feel good about what we've established this year. This season has exceeded our expectations, and we hope to see a great improvement in our rankings.

Group Stage Halfway

After three matches, Ko-oren is at the top of their group! Sarrbia, the last remaining hurdle in the first half of the group stage was set aside 4-2 and Ko-oren remain the only unbeaten team in the group! Though it is still unknown which players play for Sarrbia, the staff of the tournament raised no objections so it would have been of no use for the Ko-orenite officials to say anything. Deep Fried Pickles and Aqusul did publish their squads. Speaking about these two countries, they played the other match in Group C and it ended in an easy victory for Aqusul, 8-1.

Though the roster of Sarrbia is not the only unknown factor this tournament: it is still a little unsure where every next match is played. This is also the case for the friendly against Free South Califas that is scheduled for the bye day, though the organising staff have repeatedly confirmed that there is a venue available for the match.

These are all teams that would now qualify for the Round of 16 (Ranking all the top teams from all groups (every group's 1st and 2nd)):

H - Eastfeld Lodge 9, +12
B - Thatius 9, +11
D - Bergnovinaia 9, +10
C - Ko-oren 9, +7
F - Western Cuba 9, +5
A - Vettrera 7, +2
E - VANTELIRA 6, +8
C - Sarrbia 6, +4
G - Kazzoria 6, +3
E - Darmen 6, +3
D - Carmadin 6, +3
A - Mangolana 6, +3
H - Homelands Our 6, +1
G - Hakkland 4, -1
F - Bloodbath Generation 3, +5
B - Civil Citizenry 3, -1

The group with the biggest extreme is B: Thatius has an excellent number of points and GD but it seems to ruin all other teams, even Civil Citizenry who have to make do with just -1 GD and 3 points. Group C has teams close together at the top of the list here: Ko-oren and Sarrbia both score with the top 8. Group G has the honor of doing the exact opposite, where both teams score with the lower 8.

Looking at the latest rankings, those released after BC6, Thatius seems to be the team that's improved the most. Ranking 42nd on the official list, they find themselves to be the second best team of the tournament right now. Vettrera and Ko-oren are among teams that rank highly on the list of this tournament and lowly on the official list: 35th and 29th, though they are now both in the top 6. In terms of teams qualifying but not with a very good record, Kazzoria, Civil Citizenry, Mangolana and Carmadin seem to be the first to come to mind. All in the qualifying 16, but in 2nd, 9th, 12th and 13th place of the official rankings.

Halfway Mark for Western Cuba

Jorge Ramirez

Halfway through the Beach Cup, the Beach Boys are sitting comfortably at the top of our group. It was a close game last night, however Western Cuba managed to beat Bloodbath Generation four to three. For being rather inexperienced and young this Western Cuban team is playing quite well. And I'm pretty sure what the reason is for this.

Sure you have Konstantin Yevtushenko, who is having a monster tournament right now. But Konstantin is not the big reason for Western Cuba's success. The reason for there success comes from the start, it comes from Emanuel Montero. After most of the previous roster retired from beach soccer Montero had himself a challenge. To form a new team. He could of took the easy path and just persuaded players from the association football national team to play part time with the beach squad.

But Montero did not do that. He gave chances to players that lost theirs or could not get them in association football. Emanuel Montero is the big reason why Western Cuba is riding high right now. However he is not the only reason. This whole squad has been huge for there country since the start of the Cup. Last night was not an exception and continued the players continued there trend.

Konstantin put up another hat trick last night, his third straight. I'm starting to wonder if that is a record. And the success is drawing Konstantin attention. In last night's game, scouts from teams in Western Cuba and international leagues came to watch Konstantin play. Interesting enough, none of them were from Tumbes FC, Konstantin's former team.

Tom Dawson would provide Konstantin with all three of his goals, giving him three more assists to his Beach Cup campaign. While Dawson has not been netting in goals like Konstantin, he has been doing everything else right. Like possessing the ball, finding open zones, and creating great passes. While Tom is not gathering as much attention as Konstantin, he still is gaining some.

Another player made his first debut yesterday onto the beach pitch. About halfway through the game Dante Zambrano would have to leave the game due to complications in his right hand. Antonio Piloto would come into the game for Zambrano. Piloto had a solid performance, only allowing one goal in the process, while making several great saves. Emanuel Montero will now be confident that he has a good backup goalie, but Montero said that he knew Piloto always he it in himself to be a great goalie.

Now Western Cuba has been given the day off for the second half of the group stage. While a friendly could be organized, Montero has voiced that he wants to give his players some rest. If a friendly is to be played, it would be played with the bench to give them a chance to play.

Western Cuba is coming into the second half in great position. With three games left Western Cuba is in position to win the group and head to the knockout stages. In fact a win in Western Cuba's next group game would most likely secure advancement to the knockout rounds and possibly clinch the group.

Team Sarrbia: Beach Cup VII Roster and Information

Because Sarrbia is an archipelago with a plentiful supply of beaches, beach soccer is equal in popularity to association football here. The sport is rooted firmly in Sarrbian culture. The top athletes from Sarrbia's beach soccer league were elected by fans to represent the nation at the 5th Beach Cup here in Sarrbia.

The Sarrbians hosted the 2nd Beach Cup and placed 2nd, but a disappointing Beach Cup 3 dipped our ranking to 4th place, where it has remained since then - behind Hossaim, Kazzoria and Delaclava. After Beach Cup 3, former Manager Mikhael Sarmon was demoted and replaced by former Beach Soccer legend Holt Lavine. Lavine's lukewarm success in Beach Cup 4 allowed him to keep the job for Beach Cup 5 - but he remains on the hot seat after Sarrbia failed to win despite hosting the event last year. Additionally, long-time Team Sarrbia staple at defenceman Milo Wykti (43) is now a coach at the Defenceman position.

Those within the organization are very hopeful that Beach Cup VII could see Sarrbia's return to prominence. The team is still comprised of many players from their glorious Beach Cup 5 run. Please note that the Sarrbian squad is mixed male and female. You can find more information on the team below.

Basic Information

Manager: Holt Lavine
Assistant Manager: Mikhael Sarmon
Based in: Wypuli, Sarrbia
Colors: Pink, White, Gold
Species/Gender: Human, Mixed Gender

Formation

-----------------------Mallakos----------------------
----------Draughns--------------Nubarre-------------
--------------McSanders--Thompson--------------

Starting 5:

GK - Kyle Mallakos
Mallakos is an extraordinary 33 year old goalie from Wypuli, Sarrbia. He is tall and boasts excellent coordination and judgement skills. He is a long-time member of Team Sarrbia.
DF - Penelope Draughns
Draughns is a young beach soccer phenomenon from Sapphire Springs, Sarrbia. She is 26 years old, and is heralded as the poster-girl for Sarrbia's stout defense.
DF - Elvis Nubarre
Nubarre was the replacement for all-star defender Milo Wykti in Beach Cup 4. Now entering his third year on the team, at 31, he has plenty of experience and is a very balanced player with no true weakness.
FW - Lee McSanders
McSanders has established himself as one of the best scorers in all of Sarrbia. The 30 year old can knock in a goal from anywhere on the pitch.
FW - Charlotte Thompson
Thompson (27) is the best beach soccer player Sarrbia has ever produced. She has incredible speed, strength and ball skills, and will dominate games single-handedly. With her, Sarrbia's campaign in Beach Cup VI looks very bright.

Subs:

GK - Rupert Burton (29)
DF - Rumina Kavinaj (19)
DF - Julia Verdiene (32)
FW - Iggy Saldamari (28)
FW - Sasha Ramone (25)

Just Another Day at the Beach

Jorge Ramirez

The Beach Boys provided us a fun filled day yesterday, even though it was a friendly. Emanuel Montero kept his promise that if a friendly was to happen he would start his bench. And boy the game was a very entertaining one. Well for Western Cuban fans at least. If you sadly could not watch the game guess how many goals Western Cuba scored.

I bet you don't get the answer right..unless someone told you. Wanna know the number, well that number is seventeen goals! Still shocked over the number? Well its alright, I bet even Emanuel Montero and the team is still shocked about this. However Emanuel made a very smart comment after the friendly.

"Well yes it was a huge victory for us, however it was just a friendly. I don't want my players to get too hyped up about this win. After all it was against only Boring Paradise, not a team like Kazzoria or Eastfield Lodge. And Boring Paradise was not probably playing there hearts out in this game either. It was a victory, however if we do not watch ourselves it also could be our meltdown in this Beach Cup"

But yeah it was an awesome game to watch. The only thing that stank was that Antonio Piloto struggled in the beginning and let several goals in. For the rest of the game though he was almost unstoppable. Still that doesn't make up for the several goals he let in during the beginning of the game. Antonio is lucky that the huge number of goals that his offense scored covers up his mistakes in the beginning.

Oh boy! This was a huge night for both Vito Mera and Miguel Luna. Out of the seventeen goals, sixteen were from the duo. Vito would account for ten of them, while Luna would count for six. Six is a great number, but ten! That makes me almost wanna blow my brains out! Vito Mera was a scoring machine at the college he went to and still is one. While it won't give Mera the starting spot on the beach team, it will give him attention from professional teams. Maybe even some international ones.

And the same goes for Miguel Luna. Six, while not being ten, is still quite an accomplishment! That is a double hat trick! Luna would also get professional contract considerations, probably not international though. Well at least international leagues bigger than Western Cuba.

Now Western Cuba has some even bigger momentum heading into the fourth match day. They have not lost since a friendly to Mapletish, which happened during the last Beach Cup. If Western Cuba wins tonight, they would almost no doubt secure a berth in the knockout stage. Tonight they will face West Guiana, who Western Cuba beat last time they faced them on match day one. It was a close game though, and even though West Guiana has been struggling, Western Cuba must play to win.

West Guiana 2, 4 Riech 3

Well aint that just dandy, but I guess we should've seen it coming, because I mean when there's a team everyone else can always beat, som how our team manages to loss to that one team. Now I know seen Temist is the head coach we're very likly to lay blame on him, but I'd say we take a step back and look around and see the big picture. West Guiana is new to this sport and every match we play, must be played to the highest degree. Then again under Temist, the WG Soccer team some how always managed to lose to terrible teams or tie with them.

But look folks we're only halfway through with this and the team gets a nice day off, well so does the rest of the competition

Looking forward to match day four, now we will start the second legg of the tournament and once again will face Western Cuba. In our first meeting with this team West Guiana lost but only by one goal, which i'm very sure that the Western Cuban coaching staff and team was very upset to have lost to an un-ranked team.

Now I wont say for sure that we'll win, it is very unlikely, but at most we can hope for a tie. Do expect this Western Cuba has an iron grip on Group F and is 3-0-0 and they don't want to lose to an un-ranked team, if they do well they'll be upset and give them a slight set-back.

Now there is no reason to give up folks there is in truth a two way tie for second, with Bloodbath Generation holding onto that second spot by a few goals. At most for this next match the best score I can think of would be a tie, but it'll be better than another loss. WG - 3, WC - 3.

And They Just Keep On Rolling

Jorge Ramirez

And just like the title said, the Beach Boys just keep on rolling. Last night they rolled to there fourth victory in this Beach Cup in an eight to two victory over West Guiana. The victory gives Western Cuba a better grip on its lead in Group F. In fact Bloodbath Generation is the only team standing in there way of winning there group. Bloodbath Generation won yesterday against the 4 Riech, six to one. So Bloodbath is still two games behind Western Cuba while West Guiana and the Riech are three games back. With only two games remaining in the group stage it is impossible for West Guiana and the Riech to win a group title. The chances for Bloodbath Generation to do so are currently slim.

As you could tell with the win, Western Cuba did not feel like almost losing to West Guiana again, who is in there first Beach Cup debut. Western Cuba would get off to a quick start and never look back. Konstantin Yevtushenko continued to be the star for Western Cuba, scoring 6 of Western Cuba's goals and having two assists. If there was a Beach Cup MVP, so far Konstantin Yevtushenko would have my vote.

West Guiana did manage to get some goals though, on what was otherwise a very effective Western Cuban offense. Forward Josh Hudson, of West Guiana would score both of West Guiana's goals in the game. Scoring also for Western Cuba was Tom Dawson, for one goal and also recorded four assists. Miguel Luna would come in the game also in the end, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

Now Western Cuba goes on to face the 4 Riech. The game will be a big one for Western Cuba. But hey, every game this Beach Cup has been big for them. They'll just have to remember that this game. The game is being broadcast on WCSN, just like every game for Western Cuba during the Beach Cup.

After the Bloodbath Gen. Game
Temist walking into the locker room, another win and with only one match left in this stage, it is now all or nothing. Never has Temist found himself in this position, never has any West Guiana mens soccer squads come so close. Looking into the faces of each man that makes up the squad, clasping his hands together. "Guys, we're close...ever so close. This is our first time here and look how far we've come. One....one...that is how many games that are left. This to me feels like the championship, i'm sure so many back home feel the same way. Look guys zero, that is how many West Guiana soccer squads have made it to the knock offs. And now we're only one game away from making it. Look we win this game and we're in, hell I know for a fact that BG will lose to Western Cuba. All I know is that you want this just as badly as I and the fans want it. So come on lets fight till the last fight is done."

Beach Cup: Advance from Group Stage!

Despite the loss of the Greenblue team in match round four, the team managed to qualify at least via a second place in Group C after match round five. In match round four, Ko-oren lost against Deep Fried Pickles, the team that only then got their first win. Despite the loss, Ko-oren are still firmly in first place. On matchday five, Ko-oren beat Aqusul 5-4 and personally prevented Aqusul from qualifying from the group stage. Furthermore, this meant the definite 1st or 2nd place for the team. On the last day, Ko-oren will play Sarrbia to decise which team will be first and second:

If Ko-oren... (Assuming GD > direct record)
WINS: Ko-oren 1st, Sarrbia 2nd.
DRAWS: Ko-oren 1st, Sarrbia 2nd.
LOSES BY 1 GOAL: Ko-oren 1st, Sarrbia 2nd.
LOSES BY 2 OR MORE GOALS: Sarrbia 1st, Ko-oren 2nd.

Teams that are sure to get 1st place:

Western Cuba
Vettrera
Thatius

Teams that are sure to get at least 2nd place:

Ko-oren
Carmadin
