High Heels Select Women's U-21 Football Team
The Vixens

The Vixens made their world debut in Di Bradini Cup 22 with a surprise run all the way to the finals. Although high-scoring Melody Mule has moved on to a football career in The Babbage Islands, midfield prodigy Meline Stiletto and back-up-turned-starting keeper Kaisa Cuban headline a group that is much more experienced now. But they won't sneak up on anyone.

About High Heels

The Most Serene Republic of High Heels is an arcology, a single 50-story self-contained (almost) living environment for thousands. Legally the tower that is High Heels is recognized in Paripana as the city of Högklackat, and IdrottsLiga av Högklackat is an associate member of the Paripana Sporting Council.

The ground floor, or Interface Zone, is where citizens of High Heels interact with the outside world. Above that are 16 zones of three oversized stories each, containing a mixture of residential, clean industrial, commercial, and agricultural (typically hydroponic) uses. The 49th floor, officially the Governance Zone but colloquially simply the 49th Floor, hosts the Hall of the People and most government offices.

(Diagram of the zones of High Heels, with points of interest)

Each citizen is assigned to one of the 16 standard zones at birth or naturalization and takes the surname of that zone. All citizens of a zone must bear different registered given names, although the difference may be as trivial as an alternate spelling. Recent changes now permit the registration of two given names, reducing the strain on the naming pool. Also, use-names where a citizen is addressed by a name different from the registered name are not uncommon.

High Heels Stadium is located on the 13th floor in the Slingback Zone. Its capacity is only about 2,500, but matches are popular televised fare. Sixteen teams play (semi-)professional association football there.
Champions of the 23rd Di Bradini Cup!
Second: Di Bradini Cup 22. Third: Baptism of Fire 49.
Quarterfinalists: Cup of Harmony 55.

While CRJ21 was less than felicitous for Perfidious Revolution, we had a shock qualification and quarterfinal run in our first ever Copa Rushmori Juvenil U-17. Hopefully, the teenagers' proud performance will inspire the Young Revolutionaries.

A roster detailing the members of the
Kiryu-shi National Football Youth Team
for competition in the
23rd edition of the Di Bradini Cup
submitted for the benefit of potential rivals and other interested parties

GK
Carlo Montgomery (#1) --- Age: 21 --- Sakuragi University
With a fairly severe dearth of young goalkeeper talent in the country, Montgomery provides this youth team with some level of experience, having started three seasons for the Sakuragi University team. His limited athleticism will always hinder him from being any type of elite keeper, but he plays angles very well and is a vocal presence from the back line.

DF
Hikari Takenomi (#3) --- Age: 16 --- Maruyama University
The younger sister of national team veteran Kenta Takenomi, Hikari has been a young talent in Kiryu-shi for a number of years, and recently signed a scholarship to play for Maruyama University. Her hard tackling and aggressive defending is inherited from her sibling, but her speed and footwork may mean she has higher upside than her brother ever had. Having yet to start a match for her university squad, her inexperience may prove disadvantageous in the Di Bradini.

Tress Mi (#8) --- Age: 18 --- Kasakake University
Probably the most controversial choice for the Di Bradini cup, Mi is reserve walkon player on the Kasakake squad un-recruited by any of the major University programs. A highly developed academic, however, Mi was selected for her calm, cool, demeanor coming on as a reserve over the past season, where her play helped shut down some of the more high-octane attacks in Kiryu-shi.

Lilly Yume (#4) --- Age: 16 --- Sakaino University
Another highly inexperienced defender, Yume she has some of the best speed on the squad, and has trained in the prestigious Sakaino University system for a number of years, where her mother is a professor of contemporary literature. With the combination of top-class training and incredible speed, she has the promise of being one of the most incredible defenders of her generation, but has not yet competed in anything remotely meaningful.

MF
Ian McGuinness (#17) --- Age: 18 --- Kawauchi University
Already a reserve on the national squad, and the captain for the youth squad, McGuinness is an attacking midfielder with a fine awareness of the field, capable of directing a complex, multifaceted attack, and always ready to give the ball up to a player with a better shot on goal. He has an occasional, one-footed shot that can be successful, but isn’t particularly adept with his footwork and not necessarily faster than anyone else on the pitch. His precise distribution, however, allows him to be incredibly successful in what he does.

Tamara Tsurimi (#11) --- Age: 19 --- Sakaino University
The second attacking midfielder on the youth team, Tsurimi is a reserve on the Sakaino University squad, where she is primarily used as a burst of speed and fresh legs in the second half. She has had a fair amount of success in occasional starts, where she combines an awareness of other players with a nice touch on shots from distance, having scored as many as two goals in a match from outside of the penalty box. She will likely be in charge of set pieces for the squad.

Tyler Rolan (#2) --- Age: 19 --- Aioi University
Rolan will play on the left wing, where his role will be to confound his opponents as much as humanly possible. A distinctive player with a long, loping run, Rolan is able to cover ground fairly efficiently, yet has a lot of difficulty concentrating on what he’s supposed to do at any given moment, and has a tendency to start talking to opposing players he is supposed to be marking. He has a strong but not particularly accurate left foot, but his strength as a player comes with his quick reflexes and above-average athleticism, not necessarily any ball skills.

Megan Mitchell (#5) --- Age: 21 --- Umeda University
Mitchell, on the right wing, is one of the most polished players on the Kiryu-shi youth team, although is limited by moderate speed. She has worked through a number of injuries during her time in Umeda, where she is used as an attacking midfielder. As a winger, her strengths include the ability to create goals for teammates with solid distribution and awareness skills. While her defending will leave a lot to be desired, characterized by some hesitancy and stiff hips, she will certainly be an asset on the attack.

Freddy Rombout (#9) --- Age: 21 --- Amanuma University
The sole defending midfielder for the youth team, Rombout is charged with attempting to shut down opposing runs. A wild player with a penchant for drawing cards, Rombout is an incredibly physical, athletic player who uses superior size, strength, and speed to bully opposition players. His ability to disrupt opposition midfielders may be the saving grace for the inexperience of the back like, although his wildness and tendency to get carded may ultimately lead to his ineffectiveness.

FW
Tziganes d'Arányi (#12) --- Age: 19 --- Sakaino University
By far the biggest star on the Kiryu-shi youth team, and perhaps the most talented scorer in the nation at large, d'Arányi remains a controversial figure. Descended from a group of political dissidents who left Kiryu-shi several generations ago, d'Arányi recently emigrated back to an incredible uproar from the citizenry of the country. Slight and slim, d’Arányi’s lack of formal training is still noticeable in the way she can disappear during the course of match, if physically overpowered, but her ability to score goals from virtually any angle with both her feet, as well as her versatile and creative ball control, makes her the best striker on the youth team bar none.

Miho Nakamura (#10) --- Age: 18 --- Umeda University
Nakamura, a breakthrough starter on the Umeda University team, is best known for her imposing shot. The velocity she can pack into any ball that leaves her foot has left many domestic keepers unable to react, a useful weapon in attacking. Significantly more single-dimensional than ideal, Nakamura is facing a significant level of scrutiny to see if she will be able to contribute for the national team after leading the Kiryu-shi University league in goals over the past season.

Rombout

Midori Smitt-Munk (#19) --- Age: 20 --- Maruyama University - DF/MF

Even though the national team of Northern Sunrise Islands isn't necessarilly the one with the older players (to be sincere, our main team could easily be considered a U-21 team anyways), we shall send the squad of the NSI U-20 Marills, that play at the Independent Conference of NSICA Football.
Just to start things off, the Marills were second placed at the Independents Conference, losing by one point only to the Saint Anne and Jacob U-20 Shrimps. Even though this isn't necessarilly the team that got such fact and also, to be fair, it is Northern Sunrise Islands, who has been achieving some very low results at competitions (due to the fact that I got an issue with remembering of RPing, what I'm working at), they'll try their best to bring... hmmm... at least one victory at the "holy grounds of soccer" at Starblaydia.

STARTERS:
RESERVES:

GK: Jakelinne Neidhart - 19 years old
GK: Felipe Caruso - 18 years old

LB: Johnny Underwood - 16 years old
LB: Daniel Simmons - 19 years old

CB: Kyung Jo Ryona - 19 years old
CB: Israphel Blanc - 17 years old

CB: Trent Sheffield - 19 years old
CB: Madeline Blanc - 18 years old

RB: Thiago da Silva - 19 years old
RB: Sonny Bonnington - 18 years old

CMF: Jesus Moral - 18 years old
CMF: Matthew Dickens - 19 years old

CMF: Rodrigo William - 19 years old
CMF: Joseph Cobb - 18 years old

CMF: Matyás Karadis - 16 years old
CMF: Dale Crouch - 19 years old

CMF: Monica Beckham - 16 years old
CMF: Eduardo da Silva - 17 years old

LW: Lúcio de Milano - 18 years old [Captain]
LW: Mika Tivoli - 16 years old

RW: Juan Perera Combi - 16 years old
RW: J. J. Dilliard - 17 years old

In bold, the names that appear on the back of the shirt. In case there is a relationship of brothers or brother and sister or sisters, you shall consider a dot after the letter highlighted. Juan Perera Combi happens to have a brother playing for the Matthew City Senators, thus why his name follows such padron. Also, Spanish-speaking countries and Portuguese-speaking countries normally feature the first name of the player, meanwhile at Korea, the player normally has his name typed differently, in case for Ryona, we shall just stick with K. J. Ryona.

COACH
Gerd Bruënkel [Style: +2]
Known for being able to take Sportivnyi Lokomotivy to the final of the Unzucneru Cup recently, Bruënkel was signed right on the button for the international tournament. Mostly calm, has already declared that even he doesn't expect the Marills to go as far, but do expect to go somewhere.

RP PERMISSIONS
If you are to RP first than me, which will probably happen (please, mercy), Yellow Cards are acceptable, you can select my scorers, though most goals will probably come from Beckham, Karadis and J.P. Combi, injuries should be about something that could be fixed with no big problems, so in case you wanted to handicap my team, please No. Godmoding is allowed, except for injuries as before said. Good luck to y'all.

A Campervan, Near a road, Not sure where, hopefully in Starblaydia

"Remind me again, why are we in here?" Carting looked around the cramped campervan.
"Because it's the safest place to be when the earthquake happens" Wilburn Shannon replied, entering through the small door, just big enough for him to enter sideways
"But why a tiny little campervan and not a decent sized one."
"It was the only thing I could afford"
"It's really not that expensive to buy a decent campervan, with an actual bathroom, not a portaloo."
"Well, it's not within my budget."
"What's your budget?"
"Less than 1000QI. That doesn't buy you something new. This was the best thing, in fact the only thing, available at the time. You'll get used to it."
"I'll try. I need a dump. Where's the bog?"
"Just outside the door to the right"
While Carting walked the short distance to the toilet, he muttered to himself, "Why of all people, do I have to go with him. A crazy conspiracy guy with little money."

After he had taken a long time in the portaloo, stretched his legs and went for a walk, Carting returned to the campervan, hoping for at least a goodnight's sleep. Those hopes were dashed when he saw the beds. Or rather, the bed. A single bed. He had sold half of it to repay some money he owed to someone he knew. It had been cut in such a way that it looked like a grilled cheese sandwich. It must have been awkward to sleep in. Carting rejected the invitation to sleep in the bed, opting to sleep in the passengers seat at the front of the car. I wasn't the most comfortable place, but it sure as hell would be better than sleeping on that grilled cheese sandwich.

He had just drifted off to sleep before a cry awoke him:

"Damnit, someone stole the toilet again!"

Yesopalitha's Di Bradini Cup 23 Roster

In an effort to make the transition from U-21 to the national team easier, the Yesopalitha Sports Committee has decided to make the U-21 team a younger version of the National Team, with the teams playing similar styles and similar positions. For this Cup, the U-21 team will have the honor of being mentored by the National Team Player who plays the same position.

Nickname: The Sparks

Manager: Peter Bartoli, 46
Assistant Manager: Katherine Nu Manz, 35

The Formation: 3-5-2 (-1 Style Modifier)

The Yesopalithan game has started to become one based on solid defense and rapid counterattacks that catch the other side off balance. The side wingers in the midfield are responsible for helping out the defense as much as required and to push the ball up to the middle three midfielders and the two forwards. There won't be many close-up goals, and headers are almost unheard of except via corner kicks. For Yesopalitha to win by more than two goals in a game is for the team to have a good offensive game. On defense, they concentrate on keeping the ball away from the penalty box; if this means committing a foul and giving up a free kick, they'll give up that free kick. At times, the goalkeeper is called to be the lone man guarding the net, and he/she must be able to face one-on-one situations...

The Starting XI

Goalkeeper: #1 Terrance Housen Age: 21 Height: 6 feet, 8 inches
Mentored by: Jonah Calhoun
Housen did very well in his first professional season at North Hampton City. Now, he will have the opportunity to learn from Jonah Calhoun, and perhaps, he may be able to beat the Unbidden United Goalkeeper for the Golden Glove next season. A tall player who actually knows how to use his height, Housen will be a mainstay in Yesopalithan Football for many years to come. The only drawback is that Calhoun is also very young as well.

Defender: #12 Marcus Yersau Age: 20 Height: 6 feet
Mentored by: Noah Galvin
Yersau doesn't have the tackling ability that Galvin does, but they both possess the same drive for perfection and improvement. With the help of Noah, Marcus has the ability to become more than what he already is now. His natural ability, however, is clearing dangerous balls away from the penalty box.

Defender: #14 JeMichael Tern Age: 21 Height: 5 feet 11 inches
Mentored by: Naisi Von Helz
Being mentored by a younger player can be daunting sometimes, but Tern has put aside his pride and decided to accept all the help that Von Helz can give him. Tern is fast, but sometimes a bit too fast, over-committing himself to certain situations and leaving the door open for a counterattack. Hopefully, Naisi can help him overcome this.

Defender: #8 Catherine Peirot Age: 17 Height: 5 feet 7 inches
Mentored by: Michael Kevin
A youth phenom with footwork that drives most forwards crazy. Also has extraordinary vision that allows her to inherently know where the attack is headed. Not very good on one-on-one situations yet, but with the guidance of Kevin, and the Coaching Staff, has potential to continue the Yesopalithan style of play in good defense.

Midfielder: #66 Justinian Marquette Age: 21 Height: 5 feet 8 inches
Mentored by: Ivan Dostoevich
"He talks?" was the first question that Justinian had when he was told that Ivan would be mentoring him. Ivan told the news, "Instilling a mentality that your position is for the team and not for your own gain is what I have to do to young Justinian here. It isn't a glorious position by any means, but it's one that is needed, and with our style of play, it's one that is crucial if they are to succeed." If Marquette can keep his ears and mind open, he should have no problem learning from a mild-tempered, patient Ivan.

Midfielder: #41 Kathryn Vanasse Age: 16 Height: 5 feet 5 inches
Mentored by: Isaac Jack-Bentley
Perpetually shy, Kathryn only answered questions in her initial meeting with Isaac, awed by the brilliant striking midfielder. Whether she likes or not, she possesses most of the same skills as Isaac, with a motor that never ends, ability to make some wicked, bending shots, and an on-field maturity and leadership ability well beyond her young age of sixteen. Isaac is being tasked with grooming who could perhaps be the next Hilary Vander Rox, many years down the road.

Midfielder: #71 Clarence Patterson CAPTAINAge: 17 Height: 6 feet 4 inches
Mentored by: Hilary Vander Rox
Having the honor of learning from HVR herself is Clarence Patterson, cousin of the young Daniel Patterson that passed away. "I didn't know that he had a cousin that was going to be on the DBC squad," stated HVR of Clarence, "But Clarence is surely in this squad, and not only is he in it, he is the Captain of it. He has turned the sadness into a driving force that keeps him going. The young man is respectful, hard-working, diligent, and quite ingenious. I also hope to open him up a little bit to emotions, for he seems a bit lost right now. This team will go as far as he goes, and he deserves the spot, despite his age."

Midfielder: #11 Park Sung Hwan VICE CAPTAIN Age: 18 Height: 5 feet 7 inches
Mentored by: Fantasia Cecile-Marie
Bright and youthful, Hwan is quite a character. It takes a while to get him going in the morning, but when he gets going, there is no stopping this kid. Fantasia has been tasked with keeping him on focus in what is perhaps the most important position on the field for the strategy used, for Hwan will be asked to cover over half the field depending on what the situation is. "I'm learning bit by bit, just give me some time," he stated when asked how his learning was going. How much time he takes will be important for this squad.

Midfielder: #19 Jacques Kemp Age: 18 Height: 6 feet
Mentored by: Jane Vander Rox
"The most noticeable thing about him is that he doesn't stop. He just keeps going and going. We had a one hour workout, and he was running as fast as he was running in the beginning of the workout at the end of it. Such persistence and shape cannot be taught; he's been working on it all his life," explains Jane about Kemp, "He is perfect for the role of running down the sideline, leading the counter-attack. It's like watching a younger male version of me streak down the field; it's a good feeling." When asked about the experience to work with Jane, Kemp stated, "It's a dream come true. I'll try to learn as much as I can from one of the classiest pros that I know."

Forward: #81 Brianna Carheim Age: 21 Height: 6 feet 1 inch
Mentored by: Nadya Dostoevich
Being mentored by a Vampire is Brianna Carheim, who was a backup in the last DBC squad of Yesopalitha. Gifted with a right foot that can send the ball thirty yards down-field, this will be the first and last time that Brianna gets to be on this squad. Afterwards, she plans to help little children, as she is working on a pediatrician degree at FAU while being part of the women's soccer team there. "It is a golden opportunity, and perhaps my first and last time to represent my country. I am so excited, and to learn from a Vampire is something that not many people can talk about. It is a chance of a lifetime," exulted the jubilant player.

Forward: #62 Victoria Hellion Age: 19 Height: 5 feet 8 inches
Mentored by: Quincy Demitrius-Adams
Occupying perhaps the most mundane spot on the roster is Victoria Hellion. Her job will be to be in the front third of the pitch at all times and press the attack when and if she gets the ball. She may score a few goals, but really, her role is to be a decoy to distract one defender or two away from the rest. No one is more qualified to explain this to her than Quincy, who have done an admirable job in the thankless position so far.

Warkus Under-21 National Football Team

The Warkus national team contains a few youth players, some of which have accepted their call-up to the under-21's, some of which who haven't.

Manager: Gareth Sayres
Captain: Llyr Powell
Vice-Captain: Megan Tomos
Formation: 4-3-3
Style Modifier: +4

Starting XI

Goalkeeper: #1 Llyr Powell

Nineteen-year-old Llyr Powell will be captaining the Warkus squad. Powell is also the goalkeeper for the senior squad and has a tendency to make flashy acrobatic saves.

Full Back: #44 Mabyn Bronwyn

At the age of 16, Bronwyn will be making her first appearance for the squad. Mabyn Bronwyn has yet to make many club appearances, so her ability is unknown.

Centre Back: #32 Gwenith Efa

21-year-old Efa is having her last chance to prove herself at the Di Bradini Cup this year. As a fairly mediocre player, Gwenith Efa has yet to be called up to the senior squad.

Centre Back: #3 Megan Tomos

Megan Tomos has impressed many managers with her speed and tackling ability. Megan is 20 years old. After having a wonderful cup run with the senior squad, we can only hope she brings her success with her.

Full Back: #00 Iwan Rhys-Evans

Iwan is another player back from the WIFC. The 16-year-old has become a viral sensation online, receiving the nickname "Mae'r tanc anhygoel" (The incedible tank).

Left Midfielder: #22 Andras Bran

Andras Bran makes his debut in the Di Bradini Cup. Another player who is fairly unknown, pundits hope the manager has made the right decision in picking the 16-year-old lad.

Centre Midfielder: #1 Michael Ffrancis

19-year-old Ffrancis is looking to show off at this edition of the Di Bradini Cup. Michael is known for his step-overs and amazing ball skills.

Right Midfielder: #8 Siarl Rhisiart

Siarl Rhisiart is looking to keep his spot in the starting XI. After putting in many poor performances, we can only hope that he improves his international record.

Left Winger: #10 Morgan Rees

Rees is always the underdog for Warkus. Despite not recieving any attention, he has amazing crossing skills and pace. As he showed us in the WIFC, he WILL surprise the opposition.

Centre Forward: #7 Trystan Llwyd

Llwyd has more than lived up to expectations in the senior squad. With superb ball skills and an incredible shot, the 18-year-old Llwyd is looking to continue his amazing run of form.

Right Winger: #99 Cynfael Trevor

Trevor is yet another player who showed off his skills at the WIFC. The 17-year-old is yet again expected to speed past his opponents and cut into the box.

U21 World Cup 7 Champions

GOALKEEPERS:

[ 91 ] Aranora Jaded [ - Arcticala Inlet - ]
------- GK ( AGE: 18 CAPS: 8 :: GOALS::SR: 1 U21: REG: ) :: [ 5.88 Average Rating ]
Jaded was given a great confidence boost by the decision of the coaching staff to sell Jaqe Planst to Cednia Beach AFC. The two young keepers were fighting for the right to be the next Arcticala starting keeper, and Jaded won that job, leading Arcticala to the Tropical Trophy title in Season 27 - on penalty kicks, against his opposite number Planst who was making his first start for Cednia Beach since leaving Arcticala.

[ 81 ] Hooizo Nuakoi [ - Turoki Tide (Vilita) - ]
------- GK ( AGE: 20 CAPS: 0 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Nuakoi, a dual Vilitan & Turorian national, entered World Cup 58 qualifying uncapped and undeclared for either Nation. Nuakoi was widely expected to openly declare Turorian Nationality going into the qualifying, but with the rise of rival Ronji Miiastara, Nuakoi decided to leave the door open to a Vilitan return should he remain uncapped for Turori. After spending Season 26 and 27 at Turoki Isle, Nuakoi made the move to the Yeaddin Owls midway through Season 27 to become their #1 keeper. Nuakoi returned to Turoki during Season 29, joining the Turoki Tide as they finished runners up in the Stellar Division

[ 95 ] Jawz Tiiaupila [ - Mliona-Lpaka (Turori) - ]
------- GK ( AGE: 21 CAPS: 2 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ 4.00 Average Rating ]
Tiiaupila has made his first appearance for the Vilitan National Team in a shock defeat against Brendino the 3rd during World Cup 57 Qualifications. The 1-3 defeat was pointed at by many critics as the sole reason the Jungle Cats were unable to make a return to the World Cup Finals, dropping a full three points against the groups bottom side and inevitably finishing just one point out of the playoff zone. Tiiaupila moved from Inland Rovers on a loan to newly promoted Hojosan in The Yorozura after WC57 quals as part of an investment deal with the clubs kit sponsors, VIlitan based Vilaye energy drink. When the Yorozura league collapsed, Tiiaupila returned to the Inland joining Inland Peaks FC where he would spend a season before joining Mliona-Lpaka Turori after their promotion to the Stellar Division.

DEFENDERS:

[ 66 ] Sipaao Vereaoao [ - Kiiarana - ]
------- D L ( AGE: 21 CAPS: 9 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ 8.13 Average Rating ]
A product of the Inland Academy, Vereaoao has played in both Vilita & Turori, but committed his future to the Jungle Cats when featuring for them as a half time substitute against Nitrome Island during World Cup 57 qualifying. Vereaoao left long-time home Inland Peaks after they failed to achieve promotion from the Declasse during VLeague 27. Vereaoao signed for Marine Coast United, who had earned promotion in addition to a place in International Competitions. However, with Marine Coast struggling to keep pace in the Stellar Division, Vereaoao jumped ship to free-spending Kiiarana for V-League Season 29.

[ 3 ] Lioniaa Tana [ - Cednia Beach AFC - ]
------- D/DM LC ( AGE: 21 CAPS: 27 :: GOALS::SR: 1 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Tana is one of the most athetlically skilled defensive players in the Turorian arsenal, although Tana's weakness shines in technical areas like heading and man to man marking. After starting their career at Vilitan side Rammsissil, Tana moved to Eastal Lunar FC during V-League 27, winning the Vilitan Cup with the team during Season 28 but relegation triggered a clause allowing Tana to return home to Turori with Cednia Beach AFC for Season 29.

[ 94 ] Miiara Makose [ - Strike FC - ]
------- D C ( AGE: 21 CAPS: 55 :: GOALS::SR: 4 U21: REG: ) :: [ 7.02 Average Rating ]
Makose has Druidan blood, though has been diluted through multiple generations. He was trained as a goalkeeper in Turori but did not want to be stuck in the shadows of Nycflala Kater, so switched over to the defensive role when joining the Strike Academy. The transition was clearly justified as Makose was one of the top performing players in World Cup 57 qualifying, carrying a 6.65 average rating while appearing in 14 of Vilita's 16 group matches. Makose was also part of Strike's dominating VLeague 27 performances winning the League and Cup titles with the club and repeated the feat during VLeague 29, doing one better, having scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute of the Cup Final against the rival Yeaddin Owls. Incredibly, Makose did it again during the Season 30 Cup Final, scoring the opening goal of Strike's 2-0 victory over Colonial Sile.

[ 2 ] Moia Fliporta [ - Laiotia Locals (Vilita) - ]
------- D/DM L ( AGE: 20 CAPS: 0 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Fliporta started their career at Laiotia Locals in the Non-League system of Vilita. Known for aerobic ability such as speed, acceleration and the ability to jump higher than most anyone on the pitch, Fliporta is otherwise not particularly great at the technical aspects of the game.

[ 3 ] Noa-isinao Wioauoi [ - Turoki Tide (Vilita) - ]
------- D RLC ( AGE: 19 CAPS: 2 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Noa-isinao Wioauoi ws a product of the Yeaddin Academy who caught the eye of one Yeaddin reporter at a training session doing ball handling tricks, and the shared video went viral, sparking a campaign including a fan website and even local town council requests to invite the youngster into the Vilita National Team training camp for World Cup 57. Wioauoi was invited to the camp, but never impressed coaches Massa and Wrice enough to be capped during the process. Wioauoi, born in Turori despite leaving in Vilita, accepted an invitation from the Football Association of Turori to train with them in preparation for a playing role in the World Cup 58 Qualifiers. After spending a season at Arcticala Inlet, Wioauoi moved to new Stellar Division competitiors Turoki Tide.

DEFENSIVE MID:

[ 22 ] Restiaa Mumamba [ - Yeaddin Owls (Vilita) - ]
------- ATH ( AGE: 19 CAPS: 27 :: GOALS::SR: 1 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Mumamba was the definition of a versatile player for Vilita's Yeaddin Owls after joining them for the V-League 27 season from Jlinal Cove FC. Mumamba played in every position from Central Defender to Striker, scoring a game winning goal in one game and a game saving tackle in the next. Mumamba is an expert choice for a third sub or to allow tactical changes on the pitch without substitutions being made. The strong and versatile performances of Mumamba during Season 28 earned Mumamba a high profile transfer to defending Stellar Division champions Arcticala Inlet but he left the Electricians the following season to be apart of the growing Yeaddin Owls squad.

[ 39 ] Tujamu Treola [ - Tivali United - ]
------- DM C ( AGE: 20 CAPS: 15 :: GOALS::SR: 1 U21: REG: ) :: [ 6.77 Average Rating ]
A product of the Strike Academy, Tujamu Treola excels both defensively in the midfield, and with his head both defensively and on corner kicks. Treola made his competitive debut in World Cup 57 qualifying against West Zirconia, but has never signed a professional contract.

[ 30 ] Ukalai Saluria [ - Jaguar Moreda - ]
------- DM C ( AGE: 21 CAPS: 0 :: GOALS::SR: 0 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Saluria was a product of the Turoki Academy, who has trained with the National Team as an alternate since World Cup 57. Saluria has played for Jaguar Moreda in the Vilitan Non-League system.

MIDFIELDERS:

[ 25 ] Kiroki Mitaroka [ - Inland Peaks FC - ]
------- M RLC ( AGE: 18 CAPS: :: GOALS::SR: U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
After starting at the Turoki Locals in the Lower Leagues, Mitaroka's talent was spotted by Inland Peaks FC who snapped the youngster up for V-League season 29. At the midway point of the season Mitaroka was setting the Declasse on fire with skillful performances and caught the attention of the Vilitan coaches who added Mitaroka to the World Cup 59 roster despite having never been called to the National Team before.

[ 73 ] Manolis Kontalroma [ - Turoki Tide - ]
------- M LC ( AGE: 21 CAPS: 11 :: GOALS::SR: 2 U21: REG: ) :: [ 6.84 Average Rating ]
A product of the Kiiara Academy, Manolis Kontalroma can play central or on the left side in a classic midfield role. After signing professionally with Jlinal Cove FC, Kontalroma joined the Yeaddin Owls during Vleague 26. Kontalroma stayed at Yeaddin for over 3 seasons before joining the Turoki Tide during VLeague 30.

[ 51 ] Steffyn Siazzu [ - Turoki Tide - ]
------- AM C ( AGE: 21 CAPS: 59 :: GOALS::SR: 7 U21: REG: ) :: [ 6.69 Average Rating ]
An exciting prospect from the Yeaddin Academy, Siazzu plays behind the strikers in a clean up or attacking role atop the midfield. Despite not scoring during World Cup 57 Qualifiers, Siazzu was an important presence. After spending many seasons in Yeaddin, Siazzu moved to the Turoki Tide, helping them to runners-up in the VLeague29 table.

[ 7 ] Rikko Rawaii [ - Arcticala Inlet (Vilita) - ]
------- AM C ( AGE: 20 CAPS: 28 :: GOALS::SR: 8 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Rawaii's dribbling ability coupled with lightning pace make him a threat any time he touches the ball, to create something even from nothing with a few quick moves. Rawaii is not known so much as a goalscorer, instead, an opportunity creator. Rawaii was named Player of the Year at Arcticala Inlet during Season 26 and was named Turorian player of the year during Season 27 when Inlet won the Tropical Trophy. Rawaii would win the Stellar Division with Arcticala Inlet during Season 29 finishing second in the goalscoring race.

[ 17 ] Raso Tareak [ - Yeaddin Owls (Vilita) - ]
------- M C ( AGE: 21 CAPS: 26 :: GOALS::SR: 2 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Tareak joined Jlinal Cove FC in Vilita for V-League 26 helping the club to a respectable 8th place finish. In V-League 27, Tareak's peformances improved with a pair of goals helping Jlinal to an all-time best finish of 4th place in the standings. Tareak's impressive performances in Jlinal earned him a transfer, first to Turorian UICA Champions League representatives Cednia Beach AFC, then to the Yeaddin Owls for V-League 30.

[ 13 ] Vrotaoa Lorasoiba [ - Arcticala Inlet (Vilita) - ]
------- M C ( AGE: 21 CAPS: 27 :: GOALS::SR: 3 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Lorasoiba's impressive performances for Turoki United, including 5 goals during the V-League 26 season, earned a high-value transfer to top Vilitan side Arcticala Inlet AFC. While it took Lorasoiba some time to get settled into life on the big Island, Lorasoiba's performances were enough to get an invitation to the Turori National Training camp for World Cup 58.

FORWARDS:

[ 44 ] Erocka Lorei [ - Kiiarana - ]
------- F C ( AGE: 21 CAPS: 20 :: GOALS::SR: 11 U21: REG: ) :: [ 6.42 Average Rating ]
The top attacking prospect at the Kiiara Academy, Erocka Lorei was expected to get quite a few chances to impress on the national stage during World Cup 57 Qualifying and did not dissapoint, leading the Vilitan team in goals scored with 5 in the competition despite only featuring in 11 out of 16 matches. Lorei claims to be a penalty kick specialist but has not been known for his aerial ability. Lorei signed professionally for Declasse side Liguon Valley during Season 26, but moved on to the Stellar Division during Season 27 with Makosile.

[ 13 ] Yves Gadois [ - Strike FC - ]
------- F C ( AGE: 18 CAPS: 19 :: GOALS::SR: 5 U21: REG: ) :: [ 6.52 Average Rating ]
Gadois became a hot topic in Vilita after rising to glory as the spearhead for Strike FC's Vleague 27 championship, with 8 league goals and an incredibly 6 goals in the Vilitan Cup. Gadois, a product of the Inland Academy, earned an invitation to the National Team Training camp for the first time in the build up to World Cup 58.

[ 9 ] Lita Adjei [ - Arcticala Inlet - ]
------- F C ( AGE: 21 CAPS: 14 :: GOALS::SR: 3 U21: REG: ) :: [ 7.09 Average Rating ]
A product of the Turoki Academy, Adjei has sport in the blood, being a descendent of former Stellar Division top Forward award winner Ippolit Adjei. Adjei moved on a loan to newly promoted Hojosan in The Yorozura after WC57 quals as part of an investment deal with the clubs kit sponsors, VIlitan based Vilaye energy drink. When that deal expired, Adjei returned to the Vilitan League, being snapped up by Kiiarana in the Stellar Division and quickly rising to the level of stardom with strong performances and crucial goals during Season 29, seeing the single-cap player called to the squad for World Cup 59. Adjei's impressive performances earned him a high-profile transfer to Arcticala Inlet for V-League 30.

[ 8 ] Liinai Zakazaka [ - Jlinal Cove FC (Vilita) - ]
------- F C ( AGE: 20 CAPS: 27 :: GOALS::SR: 11 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Zakazaka joined Jlinal Cove FC for the V-League 27 season and gained some attention back in Turori for their contribution to the 'Cove's impressive top-4 finish in the final standings. Zakazaka was named Jlinal Cove's top player during Season 28.

[ 19 ] Jukkia Diijelhma [ - Kionao Locals - ]
------- F C ( AGE: 21 CAPS: 13 :: GOALS::SR: 2 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Born in Starblaydia, Diijelhma moved to Turori following V-League Season 26 to pursue a new career in the Island Emirate. Diijelhma was one of the few Kionao Locals players in their disasterous V-League 27 season to receive even neutral reviews. Despite scoring no goals on the season, the Striker showed some skill that was required for the Locals to avoid another relegation in Season 28, and also proved to be useful for the Turori National team.

[ 9 ] Anuh Ciniima [ - Morata Valley (Vilita) - ]
------- F C ( AGE: 21 CAPS: 15 :: GOALS::SR: 2 U21: REG: ) :: [ N/R ]
Ciniima was born in Turori to Misrantian parents before moving to Vilita to study and train for his sporting career. The unselfish striker joined Morata Valley after their promotion to the Stellar Division for Season 27 as a compliment to Turorian Striker Loala Kigoouao. Ciniima, while able to put the ball in the net when needed, has shown to be an expert decision maker, recording twice as many assists as goals inside the box.

Bears Armed
("The Junior Bear-Belles")

As far as BA is concerned this tournament is taking place (IC) in 2076AD, and the qualifiers for WC61 will start in 2077.

National football organisation: ‘Bears Armed Association for Soccer’ (= ‘BAAS’).
(Chairbear: Harrla o WestFells [Chairbear of WestPort United S.C.])
National anthem (for sports): ‘The Banner Green And Gold’.

All of the players are actual Ursines (i.e. anthropomorpic, bipedal Bears)], except those whom I actually specify as being members of other ‘peoples’ instead. The Harr'aynau people are physically human (more-or-less, anyway, although inclined towards heavy builds & hairiness), but spiritually & culturally Ursine instead.

Manager & Chief Coach: Sammhra Fairbarrrhn _ A member of the Sun Clan’s northern branch, she made her debut in international football playing in the ‘Lynchpin’ position for the ‘NorthBears’ in the qualifiers for WC#53 but subsequently played as a member of the ‘Bear-Belles’ instead (WC#54-56) once the Northlands’ attempt at fielding a separate “national” team had ended. After 21 years of experience in all as a player and having finished her playing career as the Belles’ deputy captain, and with a very good reputation for both leadership and tactics, she was selected from a strong field of candidates to replace Karra Caroline Thunder as head of BAAS’s youth programme & manager of the U21 team and has now held those positions for almost 16 years. Age = 56 years, ambidextrous, fur = blonde, eyesight = still quite good even by Human standards.

Deputy Manager (Admin): Amarra Marra o Harruor
(female Ursine, from Clan Harruor Erruur; formerly a staff member at BAAS, appointed to this job just before DBC21; age = 35, fur = medium-brown).

Deputy Manager [Coaching]: Cierra o Vorross
(female Ursine; Clan = GreenWoods, age = 42, left-pawed, fur = light brown with paler reddish highlights. She made her international debut as a player as a last-minute member of the smaller-than-planned team that represented Bears Armed in DBC15, having travelled to that competition as a supporter but then been “drafted” to fill one of their vacant places due to her status as the ‘National Under-15 Keepy-Uppy Champion’; having become a professional footballer she then played for River City as a Midfielder and was also a member of the Bear-Belles [usual position = Midfield Left] until & including the ‘Golden Honeycomb’ friendly before the qualifiers for WC60 began: playing experience = 29 years; filled this same job for the Bear-Belles during those qualifiers & for World Cup #60 itself).

Doctor: Marranna o WhiteRose
(female Ursine, from Clan Redwood; age = 27, left-pawed, fur = medium brown; just hired)

Physio: Behrthye NorthWalker
(female Harr’aynau [humanoid], from Clan WildWoods; age = 36, right-handed, hair = ginger; was hired just before DBC21.)

Routemaster (this job involves handling all of the squad’s travelling arrangements): This is currently a part of Amarra Marra o Harruor’s duties.

Chaplain, ‘One Plus Seven’: Urrsulha Nightfall
(female Ursine from the Silver-of-Night; age = early-40s, left-pawed, fur = silvery; assigned to this job, by the Great Medicine Society, just before the qualifiers for WC57.)

Chaplain, Ursion: Derrik Ommin
(male Ursine, from Clan Artorran; age = 42; right-pawed, fur = light brown & fairly short, he is a bit closer to ‘human’ in shape than is the average Ursine; seconded to this post from the staff of the ArchPriest of New Sarrum, who is the Earthly head of the Ursion Church; he is a keen student of Football, both nationally & internationally, and can bore for England Bears Armed on the details of teams’ records & players’ careers [and about the statistics involved, too: Did I mention yet that he originally trained as a statistician? ^_^ ] — if you give him even half a chance…)

Security Chief: Herrth’hrra SunBlessed
(female Ursine, from the Sun clan; adult, but exact age not made public, left-pawed, fur = blonde; just appointed to this job.)

Deputy Chief of Security: Captain Jorro urn Harrluah
(male Ursine, from the ‘GhostBear’ free sept; age = 44, left-pawed, fur = very pale brown; just appointed to this job, formerly in the Confederal Army)

Caterers: Jorrdon Blue.

Mascot: ‘The Wise Grorrfinn’
(male ‘TrueBear’; age = undisclosed [but considering some of his appearances in old stories apparently somewhere over 1’500, at least...], ambidextrous, fur = medium-brown); revealed during WC54 to be his Reality’s counterpart of the [‘Tolkienian’] elf Glorfindel…)

Style Modifier: Offensive, modifier = +4 ("A good offence is the best defence"...)

Their usual formation will include a front row of at least 5 (normally arranged as 3 strikers & 2 wingers), with 2 midfielders, 2 backs, and either a ‘Defensive Centre’ (whose starting position would be at the midpoint of an imaginary cross drawn between those other four non-forwards’ positions) or a third midfielder depending on the Manager’s decision before each match.

Opponents may _

Choose my goalscorers: Y (but the Forwards, and then the Wingers, are probably likeliest to fill this role...)
Godmod Scoring Events: Y (For example, remember the [Rushmori?] geese who sometimes invaded my main team’s games in fairly recent years? I wouldn’t be at all surprised if some of those were to turn up here as well…)
RP injuries to my players / Godmod injuries to my players / Hand out Yellow cards to my players / Hand out Red cards to my players: Y to all, at least to start with, but remember what I've written here and keep it in limits accordingly... Any serious offences by my players would probably result in injuries to your players, and causing any serious injuries to my players would probably require such obviously-deliberate attacks that your players would get yellow or even red cards as a result too. Don’t kill anybody, or inflict injuries that would be serious enough to end careers, without checking with me & getting my approval (which is unlikely to be granted…) first.

Godmod Other Events: Y, I suppose, at least as long as you do so in an AMUSING way... but please remember that Ursines are fully sapient beings, as much as Humans are, not instinct-driven animals. Oh, and of course female Ursines are not sexually interested in Humans (of either sex), and it's very unlikely that female Harr'ayanau would be either. Please don't have them run amok or outright revert to animality, without checking by TG first, don't make assumptions about their views on politics or religion, and don't do anything that would make more than one of them incapable of playing in their next game...

______________________________________________________

Kit: This incarnation of the country’s U21 team wears the same [latest] set of designs that ‘ediraf’ produced for the “main” team _ See “here” for details.
Bears Armed has traditionally used base-8 arithmetic, for several reasons, and this has affected the set of numbers used for this team’s players: Also, the number “22” has deliberately been left unassigned out of respect for its first [& only] wearer who died a heroine’s death during the year immediately following WC444…

NOTES

Ursines may tend to be a bit less agile & slower to accelerate than humans on average, but this team's members were carefully selected so the gap between them & their opponents in this respect should be narrower than some people might expect. They do tend to have slightly poorer eyesight than humans, on the whole (although the members of both Clan Gunnar and the Sun Clan are generally an exception to this rule, and the eyesight of the latter group is actually often at better-than-human levels instead), so long-distance passes & shots at goal will tend to be rarer behaviour for them than they are for human teams... but their typical size & strength mean that when they're running with the ball it will probably take a very brave human -- as well as a very skilled one -- to tackle them successfully, which should balance that factor pretty well. They don’t jump very well, but then they’re generally rather taller than most Human players [of comparable age] to start with.
They're physically robust, of course, which means that they're much less likely than humans to suffer injuries in falls or collisions. The females of this species are more even-tempered than the males, and the team's members will generally try to stay on their best behaviour not only in order to do well in this contest but also to impress upon the watching humans that Ursines aren't just "dumb beasts". They will not 'dive', or feign injury in other ways, because suggesting that they could be harmed so easily goes strongly against the grain.
Cold weather should pose no problem to them, even if there's snow or ice on the pitch, but tropical heat might prove awkward...

Unless our hosts at the match in question object, this team's members (including the designated substitutes for the match in question) will perform a [fairly short] ritual that's called the 'harrdiharr' on the pitch just before play begins... This is a traditional war-dance, meant to over-awe opponents, that has come to be a customary prelude for team games as well (similar to the [RL] New Zealanders' 'haka'...). : )
And, as has now been seen during various tournaments, some of our fans like to take drums — and possibly cow-horns, or other "musical instruments", too — along to the matches...

“eight-plus-seven, twoEights, twoEights-plus-one, and twoEights-plus-two.
“Hrright, everybody’s here. Amarra, go tell the pilot that as far as we’re concerned he’s clear to take off.”

“Hokay.”

“Eh? Hwhy’s that Raven tap-tap-tapping on the cabin window?”

“Hwhat? Ah. Presumably it’s bringing a message for one or another of us.
“Amarra, maybeso you’d better hold off on seeing the pilot until after we’ve found out hwhat’s so important.”

(Shortly afterwards _)

“Hwell?”

“Nothing actually urgent: just a note from Urra…”

“Ah. And how well did the Babes end up managing to fare in the World Cup?”

“Only fourth place, sadly: For a hwhile it smelled as though they might go right through to the final again, maybeso even win, but then in the semi-final they were narrowly beaten by a first-time-qualifying team called the
Eurans that’s been making a mighty run all of the way from just below one-eightSquared in the tables — the same side that held our girls to a draw in the cup’s ‘group stage’, in fact — and then they had to face the Elvesses of Valanora in the third-place play-off and couldn’t quite win that match neither… although it seems they came pretty furless close to doing so.”

“Ah well.”

“Er’rmm, ’scuse me, coach, but some of us were wondering: If it’s true that some foreigner was meddling with peoples’ minds at BAAS during the last Cup, hwhat if they decide to try to influence
urrs instead this time around?”

“Good question that, Herrie, for true.
“And the answer is that we don’t think they’d be able to do so hwhile you’re actually at football fields, for one hrreason and another, and that you’re to wear these hwhen you’re not on a pitch, just in case.”

“Funny-looking hats?!?”

“Hats with a layer of specially-blessed silver metal — in foil form, so that it won’t be too heavy for comfort — sewn into them. I’ve been assured that according to the experts that should protect all of us hokay: Hokay?”

“Hwell… hokay, I guess.”

(Later on, during the air journey_)

"Ironic..."

"Hr'rmm?"

"Oh, I was just thnking that it's an odd coincidence: Our first game in this Cup is schedule to be against
Pasarga and it was their team that actually won the last Dee-Bee-Cee, hrright? So that the current teams of the two countries that provided the previous two Cup-winning sides are going to be facing each other on the verrry first day of the tournament this time around..."

"Ah. Well, call it 'irony' or call it Margaret, I think that the team we've selected this team is a pretty good one so our girls should have a pretty good chance of winning..."

"Ayyuh, I agree."

From the diary of 16-year-old starting keeper Kaisa Cuban:

It's getting close, diary, and I'm pumped!. But I don't know if we're all just ultra-sensitive or if we're really feeling things.

See, I was hanging with my backup Veronica and a few defenders. We had stuff out on the table, everything we could find on the Eel Cat Things and the Sparks. Nobody could find anything on Zenega yet, so of course we play them first. But we're talking strategy and things start to shake. No, not Chrissie kicking the table, and not much. Look, we all live in a fifty-story tower. We're used to the earth moving under our feet, although not enough for things to come tumbling down. Big buildings move.

This isn't a real big building, but I know it moved. At least a little. Nobody was raising a fuss, so I guess seismic events are normal here around Hecia. Or the wind was up. Or we're just hyper and nothing happened. Whatever.

People back home are really expecting us to go out and win this one. I like the enthusiasm but it's not that simple. There are some really great teams here who have years behind their programs. Not like us. But we've got some talent and spirit plus confidence from last time. Can't afford mistakes though, with only three matches in group stage instead of five. No letting up.

excerpted from anonymous ‘letters to the editor’ section of a small newspaper in a rural county in the Amanuma prefecture in Kiryu-shi over the course of a few days in the aftermath of the announcement to send a team to the Di Bradini Cup

When are we, as a nation, going to accept the fact that football is a vicious activity, clearly correlated with an increase in crime as well as an increase in heretical behavior? I know that some people like to claim that the government ‘reform’ towards secularism is what allowed football to start to flourish, but let us look at the FACTS. The FACTS are that football existed BEFORE government reform started, and that Mayberry was ACTIVELY bringing back football to Kiryu-shi before there were ANY changes to our society in regards to the prominence of Quee.

Football, we should remember is not only vulgar and disgusting; the ultimate show of vanity, waste, and sloth, but a DANGEROUS and CORRUPTING force to our country. Without getting into the matter of SOULNESSNESS, we have to come to terms with the fact that allowing a new generation of football players to travel abroad (what would our parents and grandparents think if they knew we were letting our children be so wasteful as to travel to another nation?) will irreparably damage the social fabric of our once-fine nation as we descend into a world of wasteful commonness defined by a lack of being able to make hard decisions, where we all fall victim to the general malaise that is beginning to descend on us.

----------------

While I understand the country as a whole allowing heathen behavior to flourish, shouldn’t we in Amanuwa stage a simple protest, not allowing any competitors from our university here to play in the upcoming Di Bradini Cup? I mean, we can’t expect the entire nation to draw its wisdom from Quee like we do, but surely if we lead by example, and show the rest of the country how much better it is here without any formal support for football, especially international football, by withdrawing any of our fine students from international competition, wouldn’t that be a better way to address this issue?

----------------

I’m sorry, have we lost a bit of common sense?! Has anyone actually paid any attention to the atrocities that we are marching our naive young students into?! I know that many of us keep away from news about the Kiryu-shi football team, but it is better to be informed and accurate than to be uninformed and easy to write off…

With that being said, we are sending our children out to ENGAGE IN WHAT AMOUNTS TO PHYSICAL BATTLE AGAINST A TEAM OF GIANT, DANGEROUS BEARS, IN A NATION KNOWN FOR ITS GIANT MILITARY COMPLEX!!!!

NEED MORE BE SAID?! Withdraw all our students AT ONCE and STOP. THIS. BARBARISM.

----------------

As an employee of Amanuma University, I have this to say: I am ashamed by the words published in this newspaper. I am ashamed of our community, and the lack of support that it has for our young women and men who are serving as ambassadors to the international community. The benefits of football have long been discussed, and I will not go into them here. But the benefits of exchanging ideas and experiences with citizens of the world at large; this is something that even the most devout Quee-folk should understand to be a positive thing, and even if you don’t support the sport, you should always support our students, who are working hard for the sake of improving our diplomatic relationships. And anyone who speaks out against them should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. Just imagine if our words, these words, were somehow distributed to the outside population, countries not to far from our own who have played this sport for countless generations? And we insult them and their pastimes by calling them barbaric, violent, and vulgar? Is this the message we want to be sending to the world?

U-21 squad to return to action in Di Bradini Cup
After dismal showing at the Olympics, Pinchot's Party has something to prove

It wasn't the best of times out in Emberton, Krytenia, as Harrison Pinchot and the specially created U-23 team fell flat in their group, coming in third place. For a team that was predicted to win their group and progress to at least the quarter finals, the final results were disheartening. After starting off with a boring 1-1 draw against Cyborg Holland, a shocking defeat by a ragtag Ko-oren team sent them out of the group, even with a win against Kosovoe in the final match (which they won by the slimmest of margins). This was all with a team consisting of 6 senior national teams (3 of those brought in as the overaged players), so all that talent going to waste left a sour taste in the Saugeain mouths back home. "It was disgraceful," said Harrison Pinchot, "but now I need to focus on fine tuning the team to compete in the Di Bradini Cup next year."

And fine tune he has, to some extent, bringing in a total of 10 new players to replace the outgrown or underused players in the past year. Two of those being fraternal twins Alphonse and Baudouin Richelieu. Both players were trained under the Montbenoit academy system and have recently signed with two of the up and coming Astograthian teams, Oyardo FC and South Factory respectively. When asked if sibling rivalry will be the drive to spur each other on, Baudouin responded, "It's been that way in the past, and looking at the starting lineups with myself not next to my brother, of course it'll put the fire in me to work harder to earn that spot."

Saugeais was drawn into Group C earlier in the week, a group that consists of Northern Sunrise Islands, Filopines, and Darmen. Saugeais has never played against the first two teams on any level, youth or senior, while they have played Darmen a few times in the past in friendlies and the Copa Rushmori. With the Di Bradini Cup being the crap shoot that it is, Pinchot is not taking any chances when it comes to roster selection. "I've never seen these opponents in action, so I'll be doing whatever training I can to make sure my team is ready." Saugeais will be playing all of their matches at the Bekkside Arena, and will start out their campaign against Darmen, followed by Filopines, and finally Northern Sunrise Islands.

Darmen have posted a very peculiar roster formation of 5-1-4, pretty much stated that they will have both an all out offense coupled with an all out defense. Compared to the "Christmas Tree" Pinchot will be using, lack of width will be a factor when it comes to breaking down their opposition. "I will hope to find some holes, as having too many players in the back can cause bunching, leaving spaces available," said Pinchot. First match comes to you live tonight on SNN Sports 1.

Inside their hotel's gym Alba was pummeling a red punching bag hanging off the gym's roof. Gerardo leaned against the wall, checking his watch, to him it seemed as if time was just counting down to their first match. He glanced at Alba as the striker delivered a left hook to the punching bag and commented on his energy,

"You seem pumped." Alba smiled and continued hitting the bag. He had promised himself that he would do everything he could to at least pass the group stage at the beginning of the cup, and despite his promise to himself he was surprisingly calm, unlike others on the team who were fairly anxious,

"Yeah well, what can I say. I've been looking forward to this day for a while now, especially after how badly we played in the 19th cup, I think its time we made our comeback." Gerardo shrugged and looked around, noticing not many of the other team's players were at the gym getting psyched up for the match, he suspected they were trying to either fit in a short nap or chatting,

"We'll I don't know, were up against Taeshan. They've got quite the record as a good football team, I wouldn't get my hopes up." Alba resumed hitting the punching bag with a renewed vigor, "Relax, we could still win the group stage, if we play well against Beaver River and the Islandstates we could still pass into the knockout stage." Alba nodded and delivered a haymaker before wiping his forehead with a towel and the two players watched the television as the Rustik team's manager said a few words about the upcoming match;

"I know our players are waiting with bated breath for the beginning of the first day's match. In the time we have spent training for this cup after our unsatisfying performance in the 19th Di Bradini Cup I have seen enormous progress in the skill of our team's players, which is an impressive fact considering we are talking about a team which placed runner up in the Baptism of Fire. As for our strategy, we will be throwing out or previous formation and after the training the team underwent I am confident that we can take a more aggressive strategy. I want to wish Taeshan's national team good luck if they are watching this, and I'm hoping for a great match!"

Jonah Calhoun with Terrance Housen
Terrance: You good with teachin' a rival some tricks, man?

Jonah: I believe true victory is achieved when you help your opponent and then still beat them. Besides you are a Yesopalithan national teamer first and my rival second.

Terrance: Thanks man. What do you know about the Vilita/Turori squad?

Jonah: Hilary tells me that they're a respectable bunch, not to be taken lightly. You'll most likelyhave your hands full, but don't be afraid. Being scared is the first step to losing. Just go out there and play football. You never know what'll happen on any given day.

Terrance: Any tips for me, man?

Jonah: Your game is pretty sound, but I think you need a better center of gravity. You've got such height that as long as your initial flight is on course, you should be able to catch pretty much any shot that comes your way. Don't trust the eyes of the shooter, but trust their body. The eyes can lie.

Terrance: Will you be watching in the sidelines?

Jonah: Rules state that we can't be in the sidelines with you, but we'll all be in the stands, cheering you guys on. Remember what is the most important part of playing: As long as you believe in yourself, and that you can win, there is a chance, no matter how slim, that you can win.

Terrance: Thanks for the encouragement... We need it to make it out of this heck of a group. Zenega, which has a strong youth presence; High Heels, who took runners-up last time around, and Vilita&Turori...

Jonah: One game at a time. Right now, everyone is 0-0. You go out there and do what you can to make that 1-0 for your team. All right?

Terrance: Will do, boss.
Motto: Perseverantia saeculorum Note: I prefer to be known as YSP over YES if you use abbreviations.
