Although, I can't shake the feeling that my RPs probably come off as too dry and that that's hampering me. Writing half my RPs from the point of view from a very neutral public broadcaster can't help, and neither can my relative lack of sports knowledge.

:)

Wait, are you saying that those us tied at 117th are there because our RPs aren't funny enough? Dang, I'm going to try and make people laugh next time around and see if my ranking gets better. 'Cause just think, I started at 267 and moved up 150 places. If I can gain another 150 spots next time, I'll be 33 places ahead of Audioslavia, and won't that tick him off!

Edit: And I guess this is a comment on the rankings, so my apologies for jumping on the bandwagon.

I dunno if you were trying to make people laugh... but if you were, you're succeeding. :p

Although, there was so much RPing that I largely just read stuff from my group, so honestly I didn't end up reading most of your stuff.

I'm fairly sure we agreed the last time the ranks were out NOT to fill this thread up with "I'm now X rank, up by Y". Honestly, no one but yourself cares about your own rank. There's no real need to share.

Most of the relevant posts have been made by relative newbies who may not be aware that this is frowned upon, so consider this a gentle reminder that we shouldn't be spamming this thread with one-liners about rank - this is a discussion thread, not a rank-listing thread.

There are some circumstances where a discussion of rank is relevant, but merely stating "I'm 234, 50 ranks better than before!" isn't.

If this continues, I'll reluctantly have to consult with the moderator hive mind about whether we'll have to start handing out formal warnings for spam for this sort of post.

The KPBs are made up of points earned from tournaments in the last three World Cup cycles - Baptisms of fire, World Cup Qualifiers, World Cup Finals and Cups of Harmony (this is why WC62 Finals are included but not WC62 Qualifiers, as the most recent three Qualifiers are 63, 64 & 65) - and how many games you played in them. The points are weighted so the most recent edition is worth the most. Other than that, it's all on the wiki.

After the points (the actual KPB ranking, so 20.16 for you) is the number of points in the last World Cup (1 point in 3 games for you). The light blue is the number of points per match in this qualification (37 in 18). This repeats for the previous three cycles (you didn't participate in another World Cup, and you went 40 points in 18 games during last qualification and 23 points in 18 games during the last two cycles' qualifications). In black is the actual coefficient. If you click on your ranking (20.16), you see it is a sum of all the black cells. These cells hold the coefficient (= number, based on how well you did in a tournament). The first one is the coefficient for World Cup 64 (as you can see, it is (points+games)/7*8, which is why playing in the World Cup is better to your ranking, compared to the Cup of Harmony). Add all of these black cells together, and you have your ranking.

Been here since WC 27 myself, if not for my self-imposed withdrawl from WC 51, I'd be on a 39 cup-consecutive streak.

I'm currently on a 17 cup streak, so I feel rather new.
But then I look at a lot of the teams in the World Cup, and see that they're newer than me (quite a lot newer, in many cases), which makes me feel old...

Still, I don't think anyone here can beat a consecutive streak of 10 unsuccessful qualifications, can they?

I dunno. The only ones I can think of that would be close to that unenviable streak are either puppets or just generally inactive nations (Soviet Canuckistan, maybe?).

Someday, your luck will change. RPing regularly helps, of course, but luck is always what seems to decide it in the end.

This is the first World Cup in a while where random has actually worked out for me. In that I only dropped two points to teams ranked lower than me (I think), whereas it's usually 10 or so.

And yes, RP'ing regularly will help. RP'ing well is rather beyond me though.

If I remember right, the infamous non-qualifiers from when I first joined were either Swartaz or Stachland (I think Swartaz, but I always get them mixed up) who I think hit a dozen cycles without qualing. Michael VII also had a bit of a streak like that, but it seemed worse because he also kept missing bombing out of the WBC and WB in the group stage at the same time.

Just wanted to say thanks to all participants--past, present, and future--for making this such an entertaining part of my life. To be honest, I get insecure sometimes about how much this means to me and how terrified I am of ruining other people's fun here. So I want to take time to celebrate things when they're going well, just in and of themselves. The other people in my house will be like "what are you chuckling about over there," and yeah, it's a little embarrassing to say "someone just rhymed one of their rivals' names and it actually scans..." but I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm not going to pretend to make a comprehensive list of everything that made me chuckle during these qualifiers, but some particular, uh, standouts were Ossidiacqua's "Master of the House," Kalumba's disclaimers of how Mr. Spleen does not represent the opinion of the authorities, the Neo Lemmitanian meltdown against Krytenia, and Paradystopia's urine-inspired humor. Here's to the laughs and groans still to come!
*I also get insecure about posting slightly-rambly WCDT posts under my own name and being identifiably irrelevant, so here we are.

There is none

The KPB is used in scorination, not the rank. The Rank "position" is just for show, if you are listed in 253rd but have the same exact KPB score as the nation in 252nd, then you can feel free to say you are ranked 252nd if you really want to :)
