I'd say that all 4 of the WC/CoH hosts from this cycle are well aware of that. 3 out of the 4 did not reach the knockouts rounds of their BoF. 2 of those 3 qualified within 3 WCs.

The BoF is only worth up to 3 KPB points (if you go undefeated) and it will only be worth 1 and a half KPB points in your second World Cup. In the long run, its basically meaningless. While there are some cases of bad luck (just ask Equestrian States about that), most new nations that remain active and regularly earn CoH invites qualify within 4 cycles. Nobody has qualified in their first cycle, however, during the time that I've been participating in the World Cup. Several have come close, but they always seem to fall short in the end.

The first cycle is the hard one (and the one where most newbies get discouraged and give up). However, it gets better if you stick around.

The biggest users from my BoF are (in no particular order) myself, San Jose Guayabal, Vaugania, and Patistan. Three of those four did not make it out of the group stage of the BoF. SJG qualified for the last World Cup and is now hosting this one. Vaugania made it to the quarterfinals before losing to Southwick, who has done nothing since. I haven't qualified for a World Cup yet, but I'm the highest-ranked nation who hasn't and I've made the CoH semis the past two tournaments. Last cycle I came within a penalty shootout of hoisting the Cup of Harmony trophy. Pati hasn't done too badly for himself either. Meanwhile, Welsh Cowboy won the tournament and has done nothing since. So don't sweat it.

Well looking back, I wasn't even in a BoF and managed to get 0-0-18 record on my first bout, which dates all the way back to WC 58, I believe.

Now I'm ranked 29th in KPB ranking, currently hosting a BoF and was very close from qualifying to the playoffs....

There's an easy way to fix that. Just have them face me in a playoff where the winner qualifies for the finals and my usual rotten luck will make up for any difference in ranking and RP bonus. What's more is that they'll be able to join the reasonably prestigious "I beat ES in a playoff" club with the current membership consisting of Astograth, Jeru FC, Farfadillis, Buyan, and New Montreal States.

Fortunately for me, though, nothing like that will be happening this cycle. Instead I'll probably finish third in the group like usual...

I made my debut at WC58 (after missing the knockouts of BoF 45, as mentioned earlier by FFR) which was already started by the time your nation was founded, your debut was one cycle later at WC59 where you finished qualifying with a pristine 0-0-12 record good (or bad, depending on your POV) enough to finish just one place from dead last in the overall table on GD.

It's really frustrating when you RP almost everyday in the BoF and you get a 0-3 record and you're eliminated. I might not have the best RPs but I RPed almost everyday.

Never ever underestimate the power of the third R: random. Results that do not reflect RP quality or quantity do happen. RP merely stacks the odds in your favour, it never guarantees anything.

Having been following the BoF, probaably the main reason this happened is because you got drawn in a group with loads of active RPers. In a non seeded tournament like the BoF, that's just bad luck.

Please, anyone who hasn't read it yet, do read the entire series and then tell me your thoughts. It will help with the quality of RP's I write.

But then, winning can also be a big springboard. The biggest three users from BoF54 KPB wise are Buyan, Myself and Yttribia who came first second and fourth respectively, but that's only something that has occurred the most recent rankings and I don't imagine it will stay long.

And Pays, I was surprised at your record too. Don't worry, what Margaret takes she'll give back eventually. See you at the World Cup :p

Tynelia got to the final 8 in the BoF- took 9 WCs before they finally made it to the cup proper. best result was a flukely semi-finals run that same cycle (think i won 2 or 3 straight in shootouts or something to get there- and lost in a shootout). might have made it once or twice more before i left for the first time (WC 28 through WC 42)

Jariss got to the finals of the BoF and lost- never made the WC- wasn't around for that long though

Atrua is in danger of not making it past the qualifiers in the BoF.

Luck has its ways of spreading around. I went my first four world cups without getting higher than 4th in my group. In my 5th, I had a crazy amount of luck. I finished first in my qualifying group being ranked only 69th. Then I one my group in the Proper and made it to the round of 16. Of course, along the way I screwed over Super Llama-Land...

I'll be honest, I've highly enjoyed your writing style and RPs throughout the cup.
Let me also use this post to wish all the nations of the BoF good luck or commiserations as appropriate, with a slight bit less luck for whoever goes against me in the Round of 16 :p
