Also, I may be using a little RL States history in my next RP. 7 teams have went through the group stages and drew every single match, and out of those 7 teams 5 advanced to the next round (a stat I did not know about until just now). But it's unfortunate, as I don't have the luxury of needing a draw to advance; I need me a win.

And as you mention in your RP, you get to play against the very team that managed the three group stage draws most recently! Although my stranglehold on 270 minutes of complete group stage scorelessness seems only to be threatened by the Blouman Empire, whom I pray Margaret blesses with more excitement than I was shown during WC62 (if only to maintain one of my only claims to fame).

Not to get too off topic here, but the fact that so many teams were able to advance with three draws seemed fairly unbelievable - although when I briefly googled an inquiry, it seems as if New Zealand would have moved on in 2010 with three draws under the pre-1994, 2 points for a win rules.

Yea, I had to go through the wiki to get the rundown of who in fact drew all three group matches. In fact, 2 World Cups had two teams each achieve that feat: Wales and England in 1958, and Netherlands and the Republic of Ireland in 1990. Only England didn't advance out of those four teams.

Italy in '82 and Chile in '98 were the others I found, both advancing. But still, seven occurances in 19 World Cups was far more than I expected.

Ah, the luck of the Irish. I once had to explain to a fairweather football fan that Scotland's failure to trouble the knockout stages of any tournament was as much down to bad luck as anything else. Ireland progressed to the quarter-finals of World Cup '90 despite scoring only one goal in their five games, and only winning one (the second round match, on penalties, after a 0-0 draw). Scotland, in 1982, managed to find a way to score eight goals, lose only one game (to Brazil) and exit the tournament on goal difference. They were also eliminated from the '74 world cup without losing a game (1-2-0, including a draw with Brazil) and would have done enough to reach the second round in 1978 if FIFA had used the modern Head-to-Head system rather than goal-difference.

Ireland went ahead and did their 'score one goal and progress' trick in '94, beating Italy 1-0, losing 2-0 to Mexico and somehow managing to advance after a 0-0 draw with Norway.

Going back to NS football, barring a miracle an unlikely turn of events, it appears the end is nigh for Audioslavia's 'golden' generation. It's been fun. *salutes*

Just putting this out there for those that don't get on IRC. Taeshan is looking for a senior partner, to possibly put forth a WC 66 bid in the upcoming month. With the recent hosting of a Cup of Harmony and a Copa Rushmori, I feel that i may finally, (after 6 years and 28 cups) be looking to go down the path of World Cup host. So if any senior partner, or even another tested non previous WC hoster was interested in any such bid, TG me in the upcoming weeks and we can try to put something together.
