Ultimate Cup 3

Welcome, welcome, welcome to Ultimate Cup 3, held in Yesopalitha! Here is some relevant information to get you going in this exciting tournament held in the Unbidden Communist Republic.

The Format
There will be four groups of five nations. The group stage will consist of a double round robin. However, all matches will be held within Yesopalitha to reflect upon the fact that most Ultimate Frisbee associations do not have a lot of money. The Groups will be located in Freedom's Altar, Denal-Ithorn, Irkan City, and New Hazingafar. Stadium information will follow. After the group stage, the top two teams will advance to the playoffs, which will be a bracketed, straight-knockout affair, until there is a Champion. A third place match will be held. Since there are no ranks for this sport, the pots will be determined in alphabetical order, and randomized. Groups will be posted soon.

Scorinating/RP Bonus
Xkoranate's newest edition will be used. The Roster and each RP will be graded on a 0-3 scale, and will be accumulative. RPs by Yesopalitha will be graded by different people (not himself). Three points for a win, one point for a draw. Tiebreakers will be: GD, GA, GF. Style modifier from -5 to +5 will be accepted.
Scorinations will happen around 10PM PDT. If I cannot scorinate at this time for any given reason, I shall do my best to let you all know.

Yes, this is the same team that represented Yesopalitha at the Community Football Convocation; They are the best in Yesopalitha at Ultimate Frisbee, too!

How They Play:
They don't do man to man defense; instead, they are deft at knocking passes out of the air to the ground. Two of them streak down the sidelines, looking for openings to score. The entire team has good stamina.

Joshua Demms, 17, Senior. Demms is a track star who also played a bit of soccer. He might not be the quickest guy, but his endurance is not surpassed by many. Also a guy that so many girls hit on in school due to his brilliant smile.
Isaiah Norman, 16, Junior. Norman is a 4.0 GPA student with high plans of going into law school. He stays in shape and relieves stress by playing basketball; he tried this sport once and got hooked. Collects plant leaves for fun.
Isabelle Valle-Perez, 18, Senior. Isabelle is a volleyball player who is known for her serving. At six foot four, she is a fiery redhead who can get a bad temper. She's also very competitive. Has traveled the world extensively and speaks four languages.
Silva Dora, 16, Sophomore. Dora is an avid skateboarder with a passion for the electric guitar. Weightlifting has helped this kid have a strong arm - he would've played gridiron if he liked the game. Always wears a baseball cap and is a bit shy.
Nathaniel Hawthorne, 18, Senior. A political science devotee, Hawthorne wants to be a politician someday. He's the ASB president at his high school. He is very smart and good at recognizing details that others miss. Memorizes quotes from famous people for fun.
Paneroma Gassen, 14, Freshman. Loves mountain biking, and playing catch. He can't hit worth a lick, but he might be a pitcher someday. Throws the ball sidearm, which is kind of awkward, but also unexpected for a lot of people.
Raul Torrez, 16, Junior. A placekicker for his high school gridiron team, he can reportedly kick a field goal from fifty-two yards. Not so good at drop-kicking, but has an avid desire to learn. Gets sunburned very easily.

In the bizarre sport of Ultimate Frisbee, it isn't about how many points you score; it's about preventing the other team from scoring. Since all games are played to seventeen points, except for when both teams score fifteen points each, in which case the game goes till one team has a two-point lead - defense becomes paramount. The aspect of a seven-on-seven game makes it so that the field is a lot more open, leading to the potential of quick scores and long passes that get converted into points.

This being said, the Yesopalitha Warriors teenage Ultimate Frisbee team is doing just fine. Although Filopines did manage a streak of five straight points in the middle of the match, Yesopalitha pulled away and came out with a 17-13 victory. Scoring for the Flames were Valle-Perez with seven points, Demms with five, Dora with four, and Gassen with a single point. Nathaniel Hawthorne was the one responsible for the assist in eleven points, the Captain of the Warriors did everything from defending man-to-man to knocking down passes to throwing deft passes.

Perhaps the sequence of plays that defined the game occurred when Yesopalitha was up 12-11. Filopines seemed determined to get a score; one of the players sent the Frisbee spinning toward the end zone. Paneroma Gassen snuck up from behind and intercepted the pass right in front of the receiver's face; he tossed it to Torrez, who sidestepped a would-be-defender and threw a nice forehand pass to Dora. Dora caught it, took two steps, and sent the Frisbee to a streaking Valle-Perez for a forty-five second turnaround that changed the facet of the game.

Other dominant performances in the first game of the third edition of the Ultimate Cup included Karditan's smacking of Deandean98 by a score of 17-6 and Equestrian States only conceding nine points to Bloodbath Generation. When asked about the Equestrian teams' dominance so far, Hawthorne commented, "I suppose being a horse helps when you play Frisbee - galloping is a lot faster than running."

Yesopalitha will face TaQud next. TaQud dropped its first game, 14-17, to Carmadin.

"Let's keep it up!" stated Hawthrone. And the youthful teenage team marches on...

Emotions are running high as the Ultimate team lost their second match this time against Scandigrad,a name that sounds very weird indeed,
the team have lost narrowly twice and this 17-15 defeat is no exception.For what it seems,we are on our way to defeat as we are ranked ahead
of England 89,what a weird name indeed,I have only heard of England but not an England with a 89.Well,Darmen had their bye-day today as they
sit second behind Scandigrad after their 17-8 win over us.It seems that the minnows in the international stage,Mapletish must wait for a few more matches
to adapt to the international stage,as a few domestic seasons has certainly not gave Mapletish the head start to the World Championships this time round.
It might seem to be a disappointing campaign right now,but who knows ? Well,Thatius won their first match 17-10 over England89.

It certainly takes time for the team to adapt as this is a double-legged round robin tournament but going in with such a streak is certainly not going to help
much.The Ultimate Frisbee team has definitely earned the title the 2nd Slowest Start To The Competition Team after the Mapletish Beach Soccer National
Team,which took half of their group stage matches to get into form,and ended up getting defeated in the Quarter Finals after a strong showing in the Round of 16.
Will The Ultimate Frisbee team overtake the Mapletish Beach Soccer National Team to take the SLOWEST START TO THE COMPETITION AWARD? Many fans
are keeping their eyes peeled onto this.

The Mapletish Ultimate Frisbee Team got their first win in the tournament with a 17-15 win over Thatius.This have lifted the Mapletish
team to the 3rd of the group with a win and 2 losses to boot.With this,they have avoided the Slowest Start To The Competition Team Award.
It was a stroke of luck as Mapletish come up the victor in the match against Thatius.Defence errors by Germano João and Florencio Victor led to
a number of precious points conceded,but this did not dampen José Tomás in trying to avoid a third straight defeat.Gaspar Heitor was the man
who opened the scoring of the Mapletish team after lying behind 3-0.With this victory,Mapletish can look forward to stay on their ground.

Kirrymoon Drunks Ultimate Team

The obsession with sports with the regular goers to Kirrymoon Public House near Walkden started in 1978, when sixteen drunk men decided, in their drunkenness, to create a football team to play on the field next door. Those men's dream has grown into a semi-professional football club, all sourced from the pub goers. The pub has expanded into other sports such as Babbage rules, rugby and Ultimate.

Starters

Harry Bowes-Hughes, 37 Hughes was born into a upper class family and built up a huge business empire based on high energy bulbs for lampposts. The demand for them didn't last long and his wealth disappeared within a week. Now works at the pub as a bartender and guard in return for living in the flat above. A good goalkeeper for the football team.

Jackson Smithy, 28 Born into a working class family and wanted to stay that way. Small, but determined. Good at rugby.

George Ducker, 52 Owner of the pub who was only let on to the team because he promised to buy everyone three free rounds of drinks per game. Manager of football and Babbage rules team

Fiona Amber Rachel Thomas, 23 The unfortunate acronym her name spells never gets her far in life. Had to drop out of secondary school at 13 for social reasons, and hasn't done much after that. Plays ultimate well enough.

Robert Grant, 75 The oldest member of the team and one of the founders of Kirrymoon Public House FC. Because of his genes, it is impossible for him to die from alcohol poisioning, or pass out from drinking too much, or get a hangover, but can still get drunk. It's still a miracle how he hasn't died yet. Slow, but can throw well.

'Bob', middle aged (probably) 'Bob' is a regular visitor to the pub, but no-one has heard him speak, knows his name, age anything about him. Nicknamed Bob, which he eventually got round to answering to when he played football.

Jutta Kamp, 26 Former member of Hutt River's national football team, who emigrated over to Ipeland due to some reason or another. Good at almost all sports.

The hosts' teenage team continue to dominate the opposition, clipping TaQud by a score of 17-9 and defeating Ipeland 17-13. They are the only team to have played in three games so far and won all three of them; after their next game against Carmadin, they will have a day off.

"Everything is going smoothly," stated player/coach Nathaniel Hawthorne, "We are making the stops when we need to, and that is actually helping us win. Remember - in this sport, it's about the stops, not the scoring."

Not that the Warriors have had any problem scoring. In fact, they score on more than three-fourths of their possessions following an opponent score. Valle-Perez has cemented herself as the primary scorer, while Dora has become the main assist man. Hawthorne, of course, calls the adjustments and makes changes to the game plan as he sees fit.

"Everything is rolling in full power now," remarked Hawthorne, "I think we will be fine as we are until we get tripped up. Then, we will have to see where we went wrong and re-evaluate."

Thus far in the competition, Equestrian States and Darmen are the only other two teams to have not lost a game thus far. With the sport in its infancy in the international spotlight, it is the hope of the Warriors that the competition will become better and that the sport will gain in popularity.

The team did it once more as they record a second victory in today's match against the England with a 98.It seems to be well played with the defence always on alert and the attack always going towards the main line of defence of the opposition.With this win,Mapletish sits at the third of the group with 2 wins and 2 defeats after 4 matches.An awesome attempt after all.Mapletish is currently trying to close up the the massive point difference they have accumulated after the past 3 matches.With 57 points for and 60 points against,the defence needs seriously shaping up as Germano João continues to lead the defence as the hard man although he makes mistakes here and there,without him the team might have gone into shatters.The attacking main man,Gaspar Heitor has see himself injuring his right knee after scoring a remarkable point for Mapletish.He fell on his right knee after scoring for the team.With 4 games to boot,one more than any other team in the group,Mapletish will look forward to a rest to lighten up their spirits after a dampened first 4 matches of the group.Mapletish has therefore played all the teams in New Hazingafar group.The End ...

As the reporting team made it up the final stretch of road, through forest, mountains and redneck country, they finally reached Yesopathlia. As Bloodbath Generations team fell to last place in a tournament hard to beat. For starters, nobody in the whole nation of over 430 million have ever seen a frisbee, let alone compete in an international tournament. So, as the team started to get on the field, they were shocked that this was not some regular sport with a snazzy name, but a game where you throw a thing and catch it, and throw it! Like a soccer game in the air! So nobody was shocked as the team lost their first 2 games. Everyone in the tournament was, however, surprised, when the BG NewFlips won. Results are only now becoming available, due to toy company NOoBEE4FRIS threatening to file a lawsuit if frisbees were to come to this nation, and blocking all results on GoGoPoPo, the reigons largest search engine, on anything frisbee related.

Equestrians Perfect Through Four

It has recently come to this news station's attention that we have not been giving any coverage to the Equestrian States' National Ultimate Frisbee team. Apparently they are quite good.

Although there is no set rankings system in place for international Ultimate Frisbee, it has become clear over the past week that the Equestrians are at least in the top five. Four consecutive victories in the tournament’s group stage places the Equestrians in a commanding position atop the first group’s standings. Elsewhere in Yesopalitha (the location of Ultimate Cup 3), teams from Darmen and Ezikster, as well as the host’s own squad, lead their groups.

To make up for our prior non-coverage of the events in Denal-Ithorn, we have included short summaries of each of the Equestrians’ four victories below:

Match Day 1: Equestrian States 17, Bloodbath Generation 9

The Equestrians began the Ultimate Cup with a fairly moderate goal of earning a spot in the tournament proper. Their first match showed that this was very reasonable. Bloodbath Generation got off to an early 8-3 lead, but a lightning 12-0 run by the Equestrians would make up this early deficit. The final nail in Bloodbath Generation’s coffin came from Eclipse’s full-length pass to human Zoe Ashburton, giving the Equestrians the required 17 points to win the match.

Match Day 2: BYE

It was a bye day. There’s not much else to say about that.

Match Day 3: Equestrian States 17, Soviet Canukistan 14

Before the match with Soviet Canukistan, there were some worries of violent conflict between the two teams and their fans, as Soviet Canukistan's anti-Pony policies have often been seen as a potential threat to the Equestrian States' interests. Conflict was luckily avoided, though the game was more physical than others, with multiple fouls being called on both teams. The Equestrians ended up on top in a close match that ended with a three point run to get to 17 points.

Match Day 4: Equestrian States 17, United Kingdom of the Southwest 15

The Equestrians faced yet another tough opponent, but once more emerged victorious. The United Kingdom was in the lead 15-12, but three consecutive points by Harmony tied it up. Passes to Pericles and Gilded Steel over the next few minutes would give the Equestrians their third win of the tournament.

Match Day 5: Equestrian States 18, Homelands Our 16

In their most recent match, the Equestrians faced their toughest opponent yet. Mysteriously, the two teams traded point-for-point moving up to a 16-16 tie with no end in sight. Fortunately, Sonata was able to intercept one of the Homelands Our passes and fire it to Eclipse for the win.

The Equestrians will now face the same four teams in their campaign to advance to the tournament with a perfect record. They will start this campaign against Bloodbath Generation, who has only won a single game in their first four. Hopefully, they will continue this trend and give the Equestrians their fifth consecutive victory.

The Bloodbath Generation Flying Boys have done the impossible! They have beaten #1 in their group, Esquiterian States, and stopped their chances for an undefeated run. Moving up to third in their group, the FB's eeked out a 17-14 win. As the last match of the group stage, was it enough to send them to the next round? Or has it been too late? In the words of captain Boshli Traicshkinov's signature Belarusan accent, " We vent out here to vin, and ve vill vin, no vatter what."
